white miniature labradoodle puppy
Here are a quick overview and the 9 most important factors to keep in mind. After all, they are all bulldogs, right? Not exactly. So, what do you need to know before getting a French Bulldog puppy? What are the key characteristics that make French Bulldogs special? French Bulldogs share a lot of characteristics with their larger English Bulldog cousins. Like all other bulldogs, Frenchies are great with kids! Their short legs and front-heavy bodies make them the worst swimmers in the canine world! They grow up to 11 or 13 inches on average 28 to 33 cm and they rarely weigh more than 8 pounds 13 kg. They have adorably large bat-like ears — this is the signature trait of Frenchies, their hilarious ears. Fortunately, many American breeders insisted on continuing to breed Frenchies with their breed-defining bat-like ears. Longer lifespan. While, as a larger breed, English Bulldogs live up to 8 to 10 years on average, Frenchies live a bit more. On average, a French Bulldog can live up to 10 or 12 years. And, with good care and a bit of luck, they can live more than that too! As you can see, French Bulldogs are not just miniature versions of their larger English Bulldogs predecessors. So, what exactly do you need to know before getting a French Bulldog puppy? Here are the 9 most important points: 1. Many breeds require lots of outdoor time — walking, running, playing, etc. So, which group do French Bulldogs belong to? They fall right in the middle. They are usually fine with two quick walks outside per day and spending the rest of their time at home. Not only do Frenchies prefer to stay at home, but they also should never be allowed close to a swimming pool, river, lake, the sea, or even a full bath. So, even during your brief outdoor walks, make sure that you avoid large bodies of water. And if you have a swimming pool in your backyard — getting a French Bulldog might be a bad idea. Frenchies are incredibly affectionate dogs. French Bulldogs are very playful and active dogs which makes them great for young kids who also need frequent interactions and playtime. Simply put, if you have a Frenchie and a baby under the same roof, you can be sure that neither of them will be bored. Frenchies are downright adorable — their short snout and large bat-like years are traits most kids love with a passion! And they are happy to use their vocabulary every day too! Frenchies will still alert you whenever they perceive danger, of course. This makes Frenchies a fantastic breed for condo and apartment dwellers as the Frenchie is unlikely to bother your neighbors or landlord. There are multiple reasons for this: Frenchies have very short coats. Not to mention that the little time they need to spend outdoors is usually spent just running on the clean pavement instead of rolling in the mud like certain other breeds like to do. Frenchies shed their coats seasonally or only twice per year. French Bulldogs require nothing more than occasional grooming. Still, keep in mind that Frenchies are not hypoallergenic. Come up with new games and new toys from time to time — intelligent dogs can still love their old toys and games but they need new ones. However, all bulldogs were initially used for bull-baiting which was a complex and physically-demanding job that required lots of quick thinking. If you work out of the house and you have a Frenchie you absolutely have to give your dog extra attention before going out. Leaving a hyper-active and easily-bored dog alone for an extended period of time is a big No-No. Or, that he or she gets through them quickly and easily. Ideally they need owners around all day. Common health problems in French Bulldogs French Bulldogs are playful and fun-loving dogs who love spending time with their owners. Sadly, like so many other purebred dogs, they are at risk of certain conditions relating to their breed. If you are thinking of buying a French Bulldog puppy , make sure the parents of your puppy have had the relevant health screening to reduce the chances of your puppy being affected by certain conditions. Frenchies are a flat-faced breed, which can often cause breathing problems and means they overheat quickly especially when they exercise in warmer weather. Some of the conditions Frenchies may develop include: Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome BOAS — this can cause severe breathing problems and is caused by their shorter faces. Parents should be screened before breeding. Luxating patellas — where the kneecaps slipping temporarily out of place. Dental problems — shorter faced dogs often have crowded teeth with can cause dental problems. A range of eye problems, including cataracts there is screening for this. Back problems such as Intervertebral disc disease — where the discs that provide cushioning between the vertebrae back bones bulge or burst, pressing on nerves in the spine. Skin conditions — particularly skin fold dermatitis where the skin in their wrinkles gets inflamed and sore or even infected. Hyperuricosuria — a condition where stones or crystals can form in urine causing infections, difficulty passing urine or blood in urine. If you want to minimise the risk of your dog getting problems due to exaggerated features, you can read our advice on choosing a pedigree dog. Caring for your French Bulldog Frenchies are loving dogs, known for being quite laid-back and happy to fit in with family life. French Bulldogs can be lower maintenance because they tend to prefer shorter walks, but they definitely have huge characters and personalities and will do anything for a bit of fuss and attention! French Bulldogs and barking As with any breed, your Frenchie is likely to make noise. How much they make is completely down to the individual, their training and personality. Training and socialisation French Bulldogs are eager to please their owners which can make them easy to train, but are also known to be strong-willed at times. They are a sensitive breed, so respond best to positive, reward-based training which needs to be started from an early age. This will help them grow into confident adults and help their laid-back nature shine through. They thrive off company and so could develop separation anxiety if left alone. Exercise Although Frenchies are thought to be less high maintenance than some breeds when it comes to exercise, they still love to keep busy and exercising is a huge part of that. Your French Bulldog will need up to an hour of exercise every day. This should be split into a few shorter walks, with time to play off-lead in a secure area and have a good sniff around. As a flat-faced breed, French Bulldogs can overheat and struggle to breathe really quickly, especially in warmer weather. Make sure you can recognise the signs of heatstroke in your dog. Early mornings and later in the evenings would be better times to go for a walk in the summer. Due to the extra rolls of skin around their face, French Bulldogs are at risk of developing something called skin fold dermatitis. You can clean them with damp cotton wool pads but always make sure to dry them thoroughly after. Will you give now to help people and pets in need? As the cost of living continues to rise, vet care could be out of reach for many. Donate to our emergency appeal now to provide vital vet care to pets in need and keep families together during this crisis. Donate French Bulldogs and children Frenchies are known for being pretty laid back and adaptable, so they tend to get along well with children of all ages which makes them popular family pets. Always supervise your dog with children and vulnerable adults. French Bulldogs do have a high prey drive. If they have grown up with a cat in the home, they will be fine with that cat but are likely to chase unfamiliar cats and smaller pets. You should always supervise your dog with family pets and introduce them slowly from a young age. Your vet will be able to tell you how much your Frenchie should be eating. You should feed them a good quality, commercially available, complete dog food. We usually recommend splitting their daily allowance into two meals. If you give your dog the occasional treat or use treats for training, remember to take this into account and reduce their daily allowance. Flat-faced breeds such as Frenchies can suffer from reflux or struggle to swallow their food. Speak to your vet for more information about how to manage this at home. Try to feed your dog at similar times every day as they like routine. Remember to leave a gap between eating and exercising. Beware unusually cheap puppies as they could come from a puppy farm. These breeders must do extra health tests and meet higher standards. Set-up costs Puppy vaccines — if you rescue a dog, reputable centres will often vaccinate them for you. Remember that ongoing booster vaccinations will be needed to continue their immunity. Neutering — you should usually arrange for your dog to be neutered at around six months old, though your vet will be able to advise you exactly when is best. Check prices at your local practice as these will depend on your vet and where you live. Some rescue centres will neuter any dogs they rehome, saving you this cost. Equipment — including a collar and tags, lead, harness, dog beds, dog bowls, pet-safe toothpaste and toothbrushes, grooming brushes and toys. Keep in mind that all these will need to be replaced with wear or damage or if your dog outgrows or damages them! Ongoing costs Food. Preventive healthcare — budget for routine vet visits to help stop your dog getting ill and catch any problems early. They need annual check-ups, vaccinations and regular flea and worming treatments. Check if your vet offers a health care plan as this can help spread the cost throughout the year. Accessories — including lots of poo bags, replacing worn toys and grooming accessories, buying doggy toothpaste and any other extras they might need. Other costs Training — basic training is very important and dogs can benefit from formal classes. Some dogs may have, or develop, behavioural problems which might need professional management. Boarding — you may also need to budget for boarding or dog sitting costs if you are planning to go away from home on holiday. If you are having difficulty with veterinary costs, you can check if you are eligible for treatment at PDSA here. PDSA Pet Insurance Fun facts An early version of the breed were used by lace makers in the UK shortly before the industrial revolution to warm their laps while they worked. French Bulldogs are known for their big, bat-like ears. They are lovable dogs who fit easily into family life, but come with a lot of extra responsibility and potentially higher healthcare costs. Rehoming centres There are plenty of rescue centres across the country where you may find a French Bulldog. Breed-specific rescues that specialise in French Bulldogs are also out there. Good rescue centres should let you know of any health and behaviour problems. Breeders If you buy from a breeder, make sure your puppy will be well socialised and have all necessary screening tests, health checks and vaccinations. Pin2 2 Shares Once the excitement of bringing your French Bulldog puppy home for the first time is over, the reality will soon start to bite as will the puppy. I remember my wife and I wondering what we had let ourselves in for on that first night of crying and howling! Bringing our French Bulldog puppy home to meet our son for the first time was an amazing experience. Bringing your French bulldog puppy home am: Paid via online bank transfer It was the morning of the pick-up! I transferred the money via online banking, then called the breeder who confirmed receipt you can see how much it costs to buy a Frenchie here — it was now time to go pick up our Frenchie puppy! Injections and vaccinations are super important, and I explain more about it in the questions you should ask a breeder before you buy a Frenchie. We were now the proud owners of a French Bulldog and were ready to bring him home! Ideally any dog should be properly restrained in your car when driving, and now Claude is older we use his own car booster seat. Claude the puppy was fine with the drive, but in some cases Frenchies can get car sick. This meant my wife and I had until 3pm to get Claude settled into our house so he was ready for his first day home. The things that I remember very clearly are how he wanted to run around the house sniffing at everything and getting used to his new surroundings. And then, we had to introduce him to our cat! Claude was a lot smaller than her, but being a puppy, he just wanted to run up to her and find out what she was all about. As you would expect, he wolfed it all down in super quick time! For guidance on how much to feed a Frenchie puppy, take a look at this feeding chart. I went to pick our 3-year-old up from nursery — he had no idea we had bought a dog! In the video below you can see the moment when my son met Claude for the first time! This is all because of their vaccinations, with public walks only advisable 2 weeks after their final set of injections which is around the week point. You can read more about how this work in this guide to when your puppy can go outside. He also had his third and final feed of the day at around .He was quite happy to snuggle up to us Frenchies are very cuddly , but we did make sure to take him downstairs every hour to try to get him used to peeing in the same place. You should try to get your puppy into a routine as soon as possible. Bringing our French Bulldog puppy home for the first time had proven to be an exhausting experience. It was now time for us to go to sleep, and we were hoping Claude would too! And, oh, how mistaken we were. What we did was place his crate in the corner of our bedroom. We put him in the crate, shut the door, and switched our lights off. Within 10 seconds he started crying and howling. It was heart-wrenching. We let him cry in his crate for a few minutes before we could take it no more. Handy Hint: Read my guide about French Bulldog crying and how you can start to stop them whining in their crate at night. We got him out and let him come back onto our bed for another 45 minutes then tried again. Frenchies really do suffer quite badly with separation anxiety , and at this age need you so much. We let him come back onto bed for another cuddle and gave him lots of reassurance. He had a comfy blanket in there and lots of cuddly toys here are the toys we used and this time fell to sleep… success! But it does get better… over time he will forget about his mother and siblings and start to view you as his family. The crying will stop over time, and a regular sleeping pattern will develop. In the graphic below you can see what to expect as your Frenchie gets older and how many hours they will sleep a day. The following days… Over the following days we tried to get Claude to sleep in his crate downstairs. It was impossible to do without lots of crying. In the end we gave up and kept him in his crate in our room for about 8 weeks. After two months we decided it was time for his crate to go in the kitchen. We had to be quite tough at first, as he cried the first couple of nights, but soon developed into his routine — him and our cat actually now share a bed! Claude would constantly be attacking our feet, chasing our shoelaces, chewing things like tables, door mats, shoes, and we would have to hide everything away out of his sight! Prepare to puppy-proof your home Firstly, prepare your home. You almost need to chew-proof everything. Also make sure that any potential escape routes and sealed off! We got a 42 inch one knowing that it would be ok for him as he got bigger and older. Inside his crate we placed some soft bedding and a few toys, plus laid down a puppy pad view on Amazon in the corner for him to pee on in the night. Get some toys and things to play with Frenchies love to play. We bought Claude a couple of stuffed toys, a Kong for teething on , and a few balls. You can see all the toys he still loves to play with here. It contains all the nutrition growing puppies need, plus… and this is a biggie… is said to reduce their terrible farts! You can buy Royal Canin Frenchie puppy food on Amazon. Be prepared to give him your undivided attention and be prepared for lots of crying at night. The theme for the puppies name is patriotic, since they were born close to the 4th of July. Our Browns tend to be more "muscular" than what you would typically see at a dog show and for sure have loads more boning than the average chicken boned poodle you may meet. This is because our Browns are Working Dogs, and must be physically capable to work. This is very difficult to have achieved and took years to develop. Our pups "may" get a sprinkle of grey hairs through their coat as they mature, and may even lighten on their muzzle or tail area when they age. There really is no guarantee on colour. We do have the darkest browns, with substance, that you will find in the "world". Temperament : Our Browns are sweet natured and calm. All our poodles have calm laid back temperament. NO anxious, hyper pacing or barking. Our Browns love to be with you in the same room or on the couch beside you cuddling during a movie. I use my browns as my jogging partners as they are taller and able to do 6km with a good pace with me without any stress or strain and they actually look forward to it and enjoy the activity. Browns and all poodles will actually do any activity that pleases you as that is just the breed's nature. Our Browns are the darkest browns you will find in the world!! Well we don't, and thanks to our Foster homes, helping us out you don't have to either! Our Quest for brown was a long one. We bought and re-homed many in our search for a dark brown that was calm and laid back, that would produce puppies we would be proud of, and know that we could in good faith, place in pet, obedience and therapy homes. There was no way I would produce unhealthy, or hyper brown poodles, so our standards were very high. This cost us financially, emotionally, and took many years. I could not find browns like what I wanted to own, or produce so I waited and kept searching for over 5 years. I can also only house "3" Standard Poodles, so it made the journey even more difficult. We are 5-month-old Standard Poodles weighing about lbs. While I love to play with my foster siblings, I really just want calm space to hang out with my humans and other fur friends. I wake and jump into bed to give my foster parents good morning snuggles! I enjoy a light morning snack and spend the rest of the day napping and hanging out with the humans while they work. After work, all bets are off, and I make sure to get all the puppy zoomies out. My leash training is going well, but I often try to chase the leaves and get distracted by unfamiliar sights and smells. I love to go outside to play, chew on a stick or take a walk. I also enjoy down time with humans to cuddle and get lots of belly rubs. I start my day at am, go potty, then breakfast. After I like going outside to chase squirrels and play. I then have dinner around pm and in my crate by 10pm for bed. I love learning tricks and am very food motivated! I also like to try and outsmart my foster parents when they hide my treats or sticks, I bring inside. I am very curious and love to explore, play, eat, and cuddle. Now that I am older, I can make it through the night without any potty accidents but I need to go outside as soon as I am up, usually around 7am. I eat breakfast then it's right back outside for my next potty break! I like to have a chew bone and play for a while, then naps. I like to sit on the couch next to my foster mom, or lay on my back sprawled out on the floor. I love going for walks and am learning to not pull. I bark a little at other dogs but I am very dog and people friendly. Nights are pretty low key, I may play a little before bed time, where I prefer to sleep next to my foster parent's bed. I love to cuddle if you'll allow me up too! Since I am still a puppy, I need reinforcements with potty training, proper leash walking, and learning what and what not to chew on. I am just a super sweet girl and can't wait to share my love with you! All-black standard poodles are probably second to come to mind — elegantly prancing beside their owners. However, you may do a double-take when you see a brown standard poodle. Read on to find out more about how to find a brown standard poodle. What Is a Standard Poodle? The standard poodle is the oldest and largest of three poodle sizes. Even though they appear glamorous and high-maintenance, these dogs originated from the old water dogs of Europe. They were hard-working water retrievers with hunting instincts. Standard poodles range from 40 to 70 pounds and are over 15 inches high. Miniature and toy poodles are the next sizes down. Miniature poodles are smaller than the standard poodle, ranging from 11 to 15 inches in height and 26 to 31 pounds. Toy poodles are even more miniature, under 11 inches in height. Standard poodles have coats of various colors, including black, white, gray, brown, apricot, and cream. They originally had three colors: black, white, and brown. Black is actually the most common color. Standard poodles with black coats also have black noses, toenails, eyes, and lips. These poodles maintain their dark coats throughout the aging process. Is a Brown Standard Poodle Rare? Brown standard poodles have a wide range of hues, from dark mahogany to light chestnut. In addition to their brown coat, they also have pale yellow or green eyes. Like black poodles, they have a dominant gene that actually makes them quite common. However, they are not quite as stereotypical as the white or black standard poodle. Miniature and toy poodles may cost even more. In a litter of purebred poodle puppies, however, pricing usually is more factored on sex and other breed-specific qualities like form and build rather than color. For example, runts of the litter can be cheaper than the other pups. Brown poodles will usually cost the same as other colored puppies. Poodles, in general, require more maintenance than other breeds. So, even after the initial price, owners usually spend more on a brown standard poodle than other dogs. Pro Tip: Check out our guide to pet adoption websites to find a standard poodle needing a home. Brown standard poodles can start to gray with age. Brown standard poodles are usually born with dark brown coats. What Is the Rarest Color of a Poodle? Apricot poodles have a very light red coat due to a recessive gene. However, this beautiful apricot color will fade quickly in sunlight. Like brown standard poodles, apricot standard poodles have coats that lighten as they age. The apricot color is the last poodle color experts discovered. The tallest have been reported around 24 inches. In addition, the life expectancy of a standard poodle is between 12 to 15 years. Their bone structure is quite large giving them the ability to exercise and maintain muscle into their senior years. Other Traits of a Standard Poodle Standard poodles make excellent companions, whatever color you like the most. According to the American Kennel Club , they rank 7 out of over dog breeds in popularity. Responsible breeders routinely test and care for their poodles, leading to longer and healthier lives, sometimes beyond their 12 to year life expectancy. The dogs do require ample exercise, and they maintain their muscle mass and energy long into their adult years. They Can Be Barkers Overall, poodles are moderate barkers. Still, you may end up with a standard brown poodle that barks more than usual. This type of poodle is louder than a miniature or toy poodle. Standard poodles get excited when someone arrives at the house or another dog approaches. Standard poodles shed very little but require upkeep. Owners must brush their coats daily to prevent matting, and most prefer shorter hair trims. This means visiting the groomer or bathing, grooming, and giving a nail trim every four to six weeks. They Like to Cuddle Standard poodles can suffer from separation anxiety, so owners should give their pets lots of love. These dogs bond closely with their owners and are always looking for affection. Their ancestors also cuddled to keep warm during cold months, so standard poodles are inclined to cuddle with their human companions. Standard poodles make for great companions. A brown standard poodle is an excellent pet! Sometimes loud noises or children can overwhelm them, but this breed is a wonderful choice for a future pet owner. They offer affection when you come home from work. They keep you active since they require attention and exercise. And for people with allergies, standard poodles are an ideal choice since they shed very little and have low levels of dander. Do you see a poodle adoption or purchase in the future? In addition to Frenchies, we work with a range of other breeds — including English Bulldogs , Frenchtons , Pugs , and more! The French Bulldog is a popular dog breed with a long and interesting history. Originally from England, the breed was created by crossing Bullenbeissers with Toy Bulldogs. The Bullenbeiser was a large, aggressive hunting dog, while the Toy Bulldog was a smaller, more gentle companion dog. The resulting breed was called the Toy Bulldog, and it quickly became popular among the upper classes in England. When the English began to settle in France, they brought their Toy Bulldogs with them. Over time, the Toy Bulldogs were crossbred with local dogs, resulting in the French Bulldog we know today. Although they are now typically considered a toy breed, French Bulldogs still retain some of their original hunting instincts. These gentle giants have been gaining popularity among dog enthusiasts, and it's easy to see why. In this comprehensive guide, we'll dive into the world of the German Shepherd Mastiff mix and explore the traits and characteristics that make these dogs unique. From their strong lineage, including the intelligent German Shepherd and the loyal English Mastiff, to their impressive physical presence, Mastiff Shepherds are truly amazing. As a mixed breed, it's crucial to understand these dogs' specific needs and qualities, whether you're considering adding a purebred German Shepherd, a Mastiff German Shepherd mix, or any other variation to your family. We'll discuss everything from the history of the German Shepherd and Mastiff breeds to the lifespan and potential health issues of the German Shepherd Mastiff mixes, and even address common misconceptions about these dogs, such as whether they are aggressive or not. Join us as we unleash the gentle giant within and discover the wonders of the Shepherd Mastiff cross! This mix has existed since the 19th century, though it is not as popular as other crossbreeds. The German Shepherd Mastiff Mix combines two highly intelligent, loyal, and protective breeds. The German Shepherd is known for its bravery and loyalty and is an excellent guard dog. The Mastiff is known for its gentle nature and the protectiveness of its family. The combination of these two breeds makes for a loyal and protective pet. They typically weigh between pounds and stand between inches tall. They have a double coat which can vary in color from black and tan to red, sable, and white. This breed is intelligent and energetic and requires much exercise and mental stimulation to keep them healthy and happy. They can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia and other health concerns, so a vet must check them regularly. The German Shepherd Mastiff Mix is a great family pet, loyal and protective of its family. They are not overly aggressive and can be trained to be obedient and well-behaved. They are also good with children. They make excellent guard dogs and will alert their family to intruders. These dogs are a great choice for dog lovers who want a large, loyal guard dog that is gentle and loving. The Shep-a-Mastiff is a powerful combination of both breeds and is known for its athleticism, agility, and strength. They are typically large dogs, with some reaching up to pounds or more. The Shep-a-Mastiff is a hybrid breed, so there is no guarantee of what the puppies will look like. They usually have the physical characteristics of both species, including a strong and muscular body, a large head and chest, and a long tail. They may also have the coloring of either parent breed. The temperament of a Shep-a-Mastiff will depend on their parent breeds and their upbringing. Generally, these dogs are loyal, loving, and protective. They make great family dogs and are great with children. However, they may be too large and powerful for some, and they can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia. As with any large dog breed, a Shepherd Mastiff mix should be properly trained and socialized from a young age. A German Shepherd Mastiff Mix will typically get quite large. The dog's size will depend on the size of the parents and the genetics they pass on. These dogs generally range from 25 to 90 pounds and may reach heights up to 30 inches tall. Typically, they will have the longer coat of the German Shepherd, although the Mastiff parent's skin will also have an influence. Colors can range from tan, grey, and black to brown and red. These dogs are often used as guard dogs and herding due to their protective nature. They are loyal and affectionate and make great family pets, provided they are trained properly. As with any large breed dog, it is important to provide plenty of exercises and regular grooming to help maintain their coat and reduce loose fur. They may also be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, so regular check-ups are recommended. Finding a professional dog trainer to work with your dog is also important if you do not have experience with large-breed dogs. If you are looking for a purebred Mastiff, you may also want to look into a Mastiff-Shepherd cross with the same personality traits but a less dominant Mastiff parent. Finally, when looking for a dog sitter or daycare provider, ensure they are experienced with large-breed dogs. Physical Appearance and Size The German Shepherd Mastiff mix, a designer dog bred from the Tibetan Mastiff and the German Shepherd, is a large and striking breed that has captured the hearts of many dog lovers. This hybrid blends the parent breeds' physical traits, resulting in an impressive and powerful appearance. General appearance The Shepherd Mastiff mix inherits its muscular frame and sturdy build from the German Shepherd and Mastiff breeds. It typically features a strong, broad head with a square muzzle, large eyes, and ears that may be erect or drooping depending on the dominant genes. The tail is usually long and slightly curved, while the legs are strong and well-proportioned to support their large frame. Size and weight As a large dog, the Shepherd Mastiff mix can stand between 25 to 36 inches tall at the shoulder, with males being slightly larger than females. They typically weigh anywhere from 80 to pounds, depending on the size of the parent breeds and individual factors. Remember that this wide range makes it essential for potential dog owners to be prepared for a sizeable canine companion. Coat types and colors The coat of a Shepherd Mastiff mix can vary based on the genetic influence of the German Shepherd and the English Mastiff. The Mastiff Shepherd's coat is generally short to medium in length, dense, and may be straight or slightly wavy. While German Shepherds and Mastiffs can influence coat colors , common colors include black, tan, sable, brindle, and shades of red or fawn. The American Kennel Club doesn't officially recognize mixed dogs like the Shepherd Mastiff mix, so there is no standardization of coat colors. Temperament and Personality The German Shepherd Mastiff mix, often called a Mastiff Shepherd, is a large and impressive breed with a unique combination of temperament and personality traits inherited from its German Shepherd and Mastiff parents. General disposition The German Shepherd Mastiff mix, a hybrid dog with a unique blend of temperament and personality traits, is known for being a gentle giant. This large breed dog inherits the noble and protective nature of the Mastiff parent and the loyal and alert disposition of the standard German Shepherd. Despite their size, these dogs are gentle with their family members and can be good guard dogs when needed. Their folded ears and expressive eyes reveal their affectionate and loving nature. Intelligence and trainability The intelligence and trainability of the German Shepherd Mastiff mix stem from both the German Shepherd and Mastiff parent genes. This makes them highly trainable and eager to learn. Professional dog trainers find these dogs to be quick learners and responsive to commands using positive reinforcement. They excel in obedience and agility training, with their German Shepherd colors shining through as they showcase their skills. However, it's essential to be patient and consistent during training, as their Mastiff side can occasionally make them a bit stubborn. Socialization and bonding Socialization and bonding are crucial aspects of the German Shepherd Mastiff mix's personality. These large breed dogs thrive on human interaction and form strong bonds with their family members. Early socialization with other dogs, pets, and people is vital to develop their well-rounded personalities. As gentle dogs, they are patient and tolerant of children, making them excellent family pets. Engaging them in activities like playing fetch, hiking, or dog sports can strengthen the bond between the dog and its owner. The ideal home environment The ideal home environment for a German Shepherd Mastiff mix can accommodate their large size and energy levels. A house with a spacious, securely fenced yard is preferred, allowing them to roam and play freely. Due to their loose fur, regular grooming is necessary to shed and maintain a clean living space. The family should be prepared to provide the dog with adequate exercise, mental stimulation, and social interaction to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. Health and Lifespan The German Shepherd Mastiff mix, also known as the Mastiff Shepherd, is a large and strong breed with a unique blend of qualities inherited from its German Shepherd and Mastiff parents. The health and lifespan of this breed are influenced by various factors such as genetics, diet, exercise, and overall healthcare. Common health issues in the German Shepherd Mastiff mix The German Shepherd Mastiff mix, or Mastiff Shepherd, is prone to certain health issues common in both parent breeds. These issues include: Hip and Elbow Dysplasia: A prevalent issue in large breed dogs like the German Shepherd Mastiff mix, dysplasia is a genetic condition causing abnormal hip or elbow joint development. This can lead to pain, arthritis, and mobility issues in the long run. Bloat or Gastric Torsion: This life-threatening condition occurs when the dog's stomach fills with gas and twists on itself. Like other large and deep-chested breeds, German Shepherd Mastiff mixes are susceptible to bloat. Prompt veterinary intervention is essential if you suspect your dog is experiencing bloat. Regular vet check-ups and monitoring can help manage these conditions. Obesity: Due to their large size, German Shepherd Mastiff mixes may be prone to obesity, which can exacerbate other health problems. Maintaining a healthy diet and exercising regularly is crucial for their overall well-being. Lifespan and longevity factors The lifespan of a German Shepherd Mastiff mix ranges from 10 to 12 years. However, factors that can influence their longevity include genetics, diet, exercise, and overall healthcare. To ensure a healthy and long life for your Mastiff Shepherd, provide a balanced diet, maintain a consistent exercise routine, and monitor them for any signs of illness or discomfort. Importance of regular vet check-ups and preventative care Regular vet check-ups and preventative care are crucial for the well-being of your German Shepherd Mastiff mix. These visits enable early detection and treatment of potential health issues, ensuring your pet's better quality of life. Aspects of preventative care include: Vaccinations: Ensure your dog is up-to-date on all necessary vaccinations to protect them from preventable diseases. Dental care: Regular dental cleanings and at-home care can help prevent dental issues and related health problems. Parasite prevention: Consult your veterinarian about the best flea, tick, and heartworm prevention methods for your dog. By staying vigilant about your German Shepherd Mastiff mix's health and providing regular veterinary care, you can help ensure your beloved companion's long, happy, and healthy life. Exercise and Activity Requirements 1. Daily exercise needs The German Shepherd Mastiff mix, also known as the Mastiff Shepherd, is a large and energetic breed that requires regular exercise to maintain physical and mental well-being. Daily exercise needs for this breed typically include: Walks: Two daily walks of minutes each are recommended to help maintain the dog's stamina and overall health. These walks should be at a moderate pace to accommodate the breed's large size and strength. Playtime: Engaging in play sessions in a securely fenced yard or dog park allows the German Shepherd Mastiff mix to release pent-up energy and strengthen their bond with their owner. Swimming: Some Mastiff Shepherds enjoy swimming, which offers a low-impact exercise option that helps keep their joints healthy and muscles toned. Mental stimulation and enrichment activities Mental stimulation is crucial for the intelligent and curious German Shepherd Mastiff mix. Enrichment activities that challenge their minds and keep them engaged include: Puzzle toys can be filled with treats or kibble, encouraging your dog to solve the puzzle and work for their food. This activity helps prevent boredom and keeps their mind sharp. Obedience training: Regular obedience training sessions at home or with a professional trainer help reinforce good behavior and provide mental stimulation. Scent work: The German Shepherd parent's keen sense of smell can be used through scent work activities like tracking and nose work. Suggested sports and activities for the breed The versatility of the German Shepherd Mastiff mix makes them suitable for a variety of sports and activities: Agility: With proper training, this mixed breed can excel in agility courses, showcasing their speed, strength, and coordination. Mastiff Shepherds can benefit from this program, as it reinforces obedience and socialization skills. Hiking: As a sturdy and strong breed, the German Shepherd Mastiff mix can make an excellent hiking companion. Just be mindful of their joint health and avoid overexerting them. Therapy or service dog work: With proper training and socialization, this breed's gentle and loyal nature can make them suitable for therapy or service dog work. Grooming and Maintenance 1. Coat care and shedding management The German Shepherd Mastiff mix, also known as the Mastiff Shepherd, typically has a medium to long double coat inherited from its German Shepherd parent. This breed requires regular grooming to keep its coat clean and healthy: Brushing: Brush your dog's coat at least times a week using a slicker brush or undercoat rake to remove loose fur and prevent matting. Daily brushing may be necessary during shedding seasons usually spring and fall to manage the increased shedding. Bathing: Use gentle dog shampoo to bathe your Shepherd Mastiff mix every weeks or as needed. Frequent bathing can strip the natural oils from their coat, so it's essential not to overdo it. Nail trimming, ear cleaning, and dental care Proper grooming also includes taking care of your dog's nails, ears, and teeth: Nail trimming: Trim your German Shepherd Mastiff mix's nails every weeks to prevent overgrowth and discomfort. Use a dog nail clipper or grinder, and be cautious not to cut the quick, which can cause pain and bleeding. You can use a scratch board if they do not enjoy being cut. Ear cleaning: Check your dog's ears weekly for signs of redness, irritation, or bad odor, which may indicate an infection. Gently clean their ears with a soft, damp cloth or cotton ball and a dog-specific ear-cleaning solution. Avoid using cotton swabs, which can push debris further into the ear canal. Dental care: Brush your dog's teeth at least times a week using a soft-bristled toothbrush and dog toothpaste to prevent plaque buildup, tooth decay and maintain good oral health. Dental chews and toys can also help keep their teeth clean. Tips for keeping your German Shepherd Mastiff mix clean and healthy To ensure your Shepherd Mastiff mix stays clean and healthy, follow these tips: Regular vet check-ups: Schedule routine veterinary appointments for your dog to monitor their overall health and address any concerns promptly. Flea and tick prevention: Consult with your veterinarian to choose the best flea and tick preventative treatment for your dog. Proper diet: Feed your German Shepherd Mastiff mix a high-quality, balanced diet formulated for large breeds to support their growth, energy needs, and overall health. Exercise and mental stimulation: Provide your dog with regular exercise and mental enrichment to keep them physically fit and mentally sharp. Here are some potential pros and cons of owning this mixed breed: Pros: Loyal and Protective: Both parent breeds are known for their loyalty and protectiveness, making the German Shepherd Mastiff mix an excellent guard dog and family protector. Intelligent: Both German Shepherds and Mastiffs are intelligent breeds, making this mixed breed easy to train and eager to please. Large and Powerful: This mixed breed is likely to be a large and imposing dog, which can be a deterrent to potential intruders. Affectionate: Despite their size and protective nature, German Shepherd Mastiff mixes can also be affectionate and loving with their family. Cons: Health Issues: Both parent breeds are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia and other health issues, so it's important to be aware of potential health problems in this mixed breed. Potential Aggression: While German Shepherds and Mastiffs are both protective breeds, this mix can sometimes be aggressive towards strangers if not socialized properly. Exercise Requirements: This mixed breed will require plenty of exercises, which can be challenging for those who cannot provide enough physical activity or space. Shedding: Both parent breeds have thick coats and shed heavily, which can require regular grooming to maintain a healthy coat. Conclusion The German Shepherd Mastiff mix can be a loyal, protective, and affectionate companion for those who are willing to provide the necessary training, socialization, and exercise. However, potential owners should be aware of the potential health issues, shedding, and potential for aggression if not properly socialized. The mix of these two breeds can create a large and imposing dog, making them an excellent guard dog and family protector. By understanding the unique characteristics of this mixed breed, owners can unleash the gentle giant and enjoy a long and happy life with their German Shepherd Mastiff mix. He is now 2. He stands 6 ft. He is a wonderful dog. He has an amazing temperament. He's very laid back and so gentle with our small children. He lays on his side patiently if the baby approaches him with his favorite toy.He dismisses the toy completely and licks fingers and toes and loves to be the jungle gym. Otherwise, he likes to lay near the children during group play and just be near them. If they are playing outside, he patrols the perimeter of the yard and redirects children who get too close to the perimeter by walking in front of them until they forget where they are going and turn around LOL. He loves to lounge around, but when he gets outside he loves tug of war, playing with tennis balls and big tree branches! But his favorite toy is the laser pointer. He is very intelligent. When I was pregnant he would always lick my belly. Any time I am sick in the bathroom, he comes and lays his head on my lap until I am done, and then he licks my tears away : same for the kids. He is such a sweet boy. On top of all of this, he is so alert to his surroundings. And if an " intruder " shows up to the house while I am away, he makes it clear they aren't welcome. We had our friend test this theory gladly and we were all pleased with the result! He is our most beloved pet. He is active enough to play but not too demanding and destructive. He loves to snuggle but is also very independent, alert but does not bark incessantly, great natural protective instincts but not overzealous and knows when to protect and when to let the alphas be in charge. He is a definite gentle guardian over small children and even the cat and chickens. He has a pretty low prey drive also. Not to mention he just looks cool as hell : I'm not worried about intruders.

This gives us valuable time to introduce each puppy with age appropriate socialization experiences with lots of love and attention, giving the puppies the best start in life. Our program focuses on producing healthy, sweet-tempered, genetically sound mini and medium Australian Labradoodle pups. All our dogs have non-shedding, allergy and asthma-friendly fleece coats. By the time your puppy arrives in your home it will have started on potty training and crate training. Known primarily for their sweet disposition, these dogs are increasingly sought-after for therapy and service work and make excellent family companions. We are proud to be a Gold Star member of the Australian Labradoodle Association of America and abide by the organization's standards for excellence. Home: Welcome. Family Raised. Fluffy faces and shedless coats It all begins with the gorgeous and innocent fluffy faces of the Multigen Australian Labradoodle. Labradoodles have the dreamiest eyes, the most adorable paws, and the sweetest personalities. They learn and adapt faster than you can imagine and are incredibly loyal, as every life partner should be. For extra doodle points, Labradoodles are also allergy-friendly with their hypoallergenic and non to very low shedding coats. Family love and socialization Constant attention, affection, and socialization keep the pups happy. We raise the puppies in our home in the middle of our living space. They're never more than a few steps away. We introduce the doodles to a variety of people and intentionally try to expose them to as many different traits as possible. They smell us making dinner; they hear it when the wind slams a door shut; they sense it when someone in the house has a rough day. Overall, they experience all that goes on in a busy family home. These diverse experiences, coupled with love and lots of snuggles from family and friends, are the keys to a relaxed puppy and a well-socialized and calm adult Labradoodle with a compelling and flexible personality. All of the puppy culture experiences are important, but the family-raised element truly sets you up for success as a doodle parent. Health testing to the highest standard We want your doodle puppy to grow up happy and healthy and become a treasured family member for many years to come. You can rest easy knowing that your Labradoodle puppy has the healthiest parents possible. Your puppy will go home with you with a clean health report from our local veterinarian and all their puppy vaccinations through eight weeks of age. Lastly, while genetic health issues are rare, we include a two-year genetic health guarantee with all of our pups. Forever family connection and support One of the many reasons I decided to pivot from doodle parent to doodle breeder is that I love seeing these pups become cherished family members when matched with their forever families. Some folks adopt their Labradoodle and never need additional contact, and that's perfectly okay. Others are comforted knowing I am delighted to join and support them on this journey. I'm just a call or text away if you ever have questions. Plus, you'll quickly become an expert dog photographer if you're not one already. If you feel up to sharing, my family and I love seeing how your doodle happily ever after turned out.
