Males neutered not sooner than 24 months, if ever. Quite frankly, it is not the males that are responsible for unwanted puppies. It is the girls. Some of our dogs may not have qualified as they have health conditions or behavioural issues which affect their ability to be a guide dog. These health and behaviour issues can range from mild to major, including skin issues, lameness, high excitement, recall issues, separation anxiety, poor travelling or poor lead behaviour. Welcoming a dog into your home and lives is a big emotional and financial commitment. Animal welfare is our top priority and as such we strongly recommend that you arrange public liability insurance and insurance cover for veterinary treatment. Behaviour It may be that one of our dogs has shown some behavioural issues such as: positive and negative reactions, recall issues, separation anxiety, poor travelling or poor lead behaviour. Dogs may have received different levels of training — some may not even have entered early training, so it is worth bearing that in mind too. There can also be golden retrievers, curly coat retrievers and German shepherd dogs to rehome. Sometimes, we also have crosses, including with poodles. Commitment A dog must not be left alone for more than four hours in any hour period. You must be able to meet the mental and physical needs of one of our dogs. Do you have any puppies? No — we do not home very young puppies. A dog has to be a certain age before a decision is made about its potential to be a working guide dog, the typical age for withdrawn dogs is usually between months old. We would encourage all people considering rehoming a puppy to look at our rehoming scheme and consider a withdrawn or retired dog. There are a few things that all potential American bulldog owners have to learn and have to ask before they purchase this beautiful breed, and we have that information for you right now. If you applied in previous years and are on our accepted wait list, the pricing listed at that time will be honored, unless a suitable pup of their gender selected was offered from a previous litter and then refused by the buyer. This allows the buyer who wasn't able to receive a pup from a previous litter due to not enough pups being whelped to carry forward their deposit and the price does not increase in the subsequent litter to them. The deposit tax will be added to the final billing as deposits do not need to be taxed prior to the litter whelping, due to the potential for refund if no pups are produced. Shipping Options In-Cabin by Breeder or Puppy Nanny Shipping Option While we prefer our clients to visit us in person, either Jenn, a family member, or close friend of ours could serve as a flight nanny for you, if shipping by air is desired. A crate would not be provided with this option as we can reuse the sherpa bag for in-cabin flights. Please inquire more about this option and we can calculate the estimated cost for puppy's flight fee, veterinary travel certification, round trip travel of the nanny, nanny fee, and overnight stay if needed for our flight nanny. At 7 weeks we temperament test the puppies, begin making puppy picks with each buyer, and vet check them. Preference is given to Full AKC Registration buyers, as their extra pricing helps us provide genetic testing for their preferred gender. We don't place breeders in upper picks alone because of breeding. If a breeder also shows or partakes in a performance venue, higher consideration is given to that breeder because they strive to prove their dogs. Preference is also given to those who have history of competing in AKC venues that will further our parent dogs to Outstanding Dam or Sire by gaining titles. A highly active competition home may not be the best fit for a pet puppy that may occasionally hunt. At 8 weeks of age puppies are able to go to their new homes.
