Light claws are easier to cut than dark claws as the blood vessels and nerves that supply the toenail, called the quick, is easier to see. Cut the toenail to within approximately 2 mm of the quick. If you cut into the quick, the toenail will bleed and the dog will experience pain — nothing serious, but they might not sit too still the next time you undertake this task. When cutting dark toenails, it is better to cut just a little off at a time. The first dogs were a cross between a purebred Golden Retriever, known everywhere for their sweet, loyal temperament, and a standard poodle, known for their intelligence, affectionate personality and non-shedding coat. Who would have thought that two such wonderful dogs could be improved?! The first generation of this goldendoodle cross is called the F1, and for many years was the only available option. However, F1bs, F2s and multigens are now available from most breeders. As you research the goldendoodle breed, you will find numerous pictures of golden, peach and apricot colored puppies. However, as the successive generations become available, so do various colors and patterns. We love diversity at Hurricane Creek, and currently offer red and white goldendoodle breeds. Quality Breed In addition to the fun colors and patterns, a quick search on the internet will also show labels such as teddybear goldendoodles and English, cream, or English cream goldendoodles. These doodles are bred, not from the golden retriever we are most accustomed to seeing, but from a white golden retriever bred in Europe. There are numerous articles discussing the nomenclature of golden retrievers and whether the terms English and American should be used. However, while I care little about that debate, I do care about the health of our puppies. Golden retrievers are known, not only for their wonderful personalities, but also for the high incidence of cancer in their breed. For reasons not clearly understood, statistics show that the white, blockier golden retrievers with the squarer heads have a much lower incidence of cancer. For that reason, we have elected to not use any American Golden Retrievers in our breeding program unless specifically bred from lines that have been free from genetic cancers for multiple generations. Goldendoodles are family friendly and make terrible protection dogs. They can be watch dogs, because they know how to bark, but they cannot be relied upon for protection because they have no aggressiveness whatsoever. Additionally, they shed very little to none. Our F1B Goldendoodles are great for families, especially those who have allergies. The F1B breed of Goldendoodle puppies have beautiful coats with curly or wavy hair. Goldendoodle puppies are ideal for many types of homes because they are easy to train, great with kids, and easily adaptable. They are also very loyal and bond quickly to their family. Golden Retrievers and Poodles are both very intelligent breeds making Goldendoodle puppies easy to train with consistency and patience. They love structure and once trained correctly, will be a life long best friend to the entire family. Goldendoodles vary greatly in size and color. We raise Standard Goldendoodles that can weigh as much as 80 pounds as well as Mini Goldendoodles that can be as small as 15 pounds. Funny enough, the first examples of Goldendoodles were breed by Monica Dickens — the great granddaughter of Charles Dickens — in .The Goldendoodle breed was originally pioneered to combine the intelligence and non-shedding coat of the Poodle with the family-friendly temperament of the Golden Retriever. This makes for a dog that is on average healthier than either a Poodle or a Golden Retriever alone. This also makes the Goldendoodle breed hypoallergenic , with many different coat types and colors. With proper genetic testing , we can accurately determine if a Goldendoodle puppy will have a wavy or curly coat. A curly coat is more hypoallergenic than a wavy coat, but requires more regular grooming. However they do need to be brushed regularly to keep their coat soft and clean. How big do Goldendoodles get? Beneath the curly, hypoallergenic coat is an elegant athlete and companion for all reasons and seasons. All three varieties have the same build and proportions. At dog shows, Poodles are usually seen in the elaborate Continental Clip. Most poodle owners prefer the simpler Sporting Clip, in which the coat is shorn to follow the outline of the squarely built, smoothly muscled body. All Poodles can be trained with great success, as they are highly trainable and very intelligent. They do have a weaker bone structure than some other small breeds, but are still a tough little dog. They make wonderful pets because they love people so much! A distinct breed with the right mental stimulation can properly interact and is loved by young children. Their short coats look like velvet against your hand when you stroke them. There are many new colors coming out with advances in breeding and DNA technology. Some breeders will only breed traditional colors, whereas we breed for more specialty and exotic colors. Our main stock is health tested and cleared and the pups make excellent pets. There are quite a few champions in the pedigrees and they're laid back compared to some bloodlines. The Standard Poodle began its development as a retrieving water dog more than years ago. With a crisp, curly coat as protection against the elements, superlative swimming ability, and off-the-charts intelligence, the Poodle was, and still is, a magnificent retriever. Hunters wanted their dogs to have free range of movement in the water, but they also wished to protect vital areas of the anatomy from the cold. They shaved the legs, neck, and tail but left the chest, hips, and leg joints coated. The rounded tufts on the legs, hips, and tail tip are called pompons. Note the spelling: Cheerleaders have pom-poms; Poodles have pompons. Elegant Poodles of the Standard and Miniature varieties found favor among the nobles of France and, eventually, all of Europe. An excellent nose brought the Poodle additional work as a truffle hunter. The Standard was bred down to the Miniature. The Toy was first bred in America, in the early 20th century, as a city-dwelling companion dog. Well-bred specimens of each variety are exact replicas of each other and are bred to the same standard.
