Since that time we have watched our amazing and magical breed of dogs become a world wide phenomenon with Labradoodles taking over everywhere. From being in the movies to being the number one choice for commercials, print ads and funniest video stars, Labradoo dles are everywhere. With this profound movement of the love of all things Labra doodle, the purity and purpose of what Labradoodles were originally bred for has become convoluted with many types of doodles. The Labradoodle breed itself is be coming a confusing mixture of levels of breeds, types of infusions into the blood lines, etc. Australian Labradoodles are produced when multiple generations of the original Australian bloodlines, Rutland Manor and Teagan Park are bred together. These two kennels began breeding these dogs to create a hypo-allergenic, low to non-shedding dog. These dogs are bred to be highly trainable dog for the purpose of being taught to be guide dogs or therapy dogs for people with allergies. It took these two kennels a lot of work, testing and breeding to get the breed to where it is today. It was not as simple as breeding a Lab to a Poodle, both great dogs, of course, but not a true Australian Labradoodle The importance of adopting a multi-generational Australian Labradoodle If you want a hypo-allergenic, highly trainable dog for your new family member or a dog for therapy work, you want to get a multi-generational Australian Labradoodle. Clearing our dogs for potential diseases not only ensures that our dogs do not have these issues prior to breeding, it also ensures that we will never produce puppies that could have these diseases. The hip and elbow testing does not guarantee that puppies will never have hip dysplasia, but it is the best method that we have to prevent producing puppies with genetic hip issues. Hip problems are often caused be environmental factors, but culling puppies for breeding purposes helps to reduce the risk of breeding bad confirmation. Temperament, coat and trainability for different types of disciplines are key in our breeding program. Go through all the appropriate genetic and health screens and, most importantly, are bred and raised in a loving home with plenty of outdoor country air. These dogs are not inexpensive but they are well-priced, given all the time and expense put into raising quality animals in the very most humane and caring of environments. However, mixing dog breeds became very popular in the United States in the s and early s. We can glean from this that the Golden Boxer was only created recently — sometime in the last 20 years — likely due to intentional breeding. This makes it all the more important to examine the history of the parent breeds. We will take you through some of that history by exploring where the Boxer and Golden Retriever come from — and how their histories could help shape your Golden Boxer dog. Developed from crossing mastiffs, Great Danes, and possibly a Terrier, the Boxer was initially bred as a bull-baiting dog — a horrible sport that involves running a bull ragged around a field till it collapsed or till the Boxer is killed. They were then exported to England, where they took on similar roles and were eventually imported to the United States following the conclusion of the First World War. Given their late arrival in the U. According to the American Kennel Club rankings , they ranked as the 14th most popular dog in the United States in .Long before they were a mixed breed of dogs, Boxers were used in military and police functions and remain one of the most popular breeds for those functions today. The Boxer is a medium-sized energetic breed that loves to participate in family activities. It does best with an active, fun-loving family that can give it all the necessary exercise of an active dog breed. How Did Boxers Come About? Boxers later became stalwarts of American policing and the military following their importation from Europe at the end of World War One. Although crossbreeding in the United States did gain significant popularity in the s and early s, the Boxer was likely crossbred to create a designer breed. The History of the Golden Retriever In significant contrast to the violent and bloody history of the Boxer, Golden Retrievers have quite a different origin story. This intentional breeding led to creation of a golden-colored dog with high activity levels. Today, Golden Retrievers are affectionate, loving, intelligent, family-centric dogs with beautiful temperaments. Golden Retrievers have been used throughout American history as guide dogs for the blind, show dogs, and faithful companion pets. Golden Retrievers are beautiful dogs for just about anyone, except for the elderly, due to their activity levels and exercise requirements. Golden Retrievers will love you and your family until they can love no more. Their gentle nature befits that of a family with children. Golden Retrievers can also sometimes suffer from separation anxiety, so consider this when you consider how your living and working situation stacks up against adopting a Golden. Golden Retrievers were initially created by Sir Dudley Marjoribanks, a Scottish kennel owner, businessman and politician. Mainly for its temperament, frequently as a balancing act with another dog of a slightly less even character. Goldens are very popular crossbreeds with other types of medium and larger dogs. However, they tend not to be crossed with much smaller breeds due to the physiological differences that make natural breeding impossible. The Golden Boxer is one of the instances where crossbreeding naturally is possible and is more likely to produce an even-tempered, standard-looking mixed breed dog. One of the most important things you can do before you adopt any dog is to conduct thorough research on its temperament, health issues, and more. Active family dogs tend to do better with busy families. A failure to adequately research your new pet could lead them to need re-homing, which can be incredibly traumatic for the dog, you and your family. Make sure you research your mixed-breed dog well! Fortunately for most owners, the Golden Boxer is exceptionally likely to have a balanced temperament. The Golden Boxer borrows both dispositions from its parent breeds, resulting in a friendly, loving, energetic dog. The Golden Boxer may exhibit separation anxiety symptoms early on in the ownership timeline, although this can be corrected with training. The Golden Boxer will inherit plenty of its intelligent, clever nature from both parents and may surprise you with some of its early antics. The Boxer and Golden Retriever dogs are usually very friendly, so you can expect Golden Boxers to be equally friendly. The ease with which they fit into family units makes them excellent family pets. You can expect that your Golden Boxer may exhibit substantial energy levels to start with. This can make training somewhat tricky. The average weight of a Boxer Golden Retriever mix is between 50 and 60 pounds. The height of Golden Boxers is typically between 22 and 25 inches tall. While the Golden Boxer will typically inherit the short hair of the Boxer, your Golden Boxer may inherit longer hair, similar to the wavy-coated Retriever. Either way, the Boxer Golden Retriever mix is a moderate shedder that will require brushing once per week. When you combine Golden Retrievers and Boxers, you combine two dogs that are exceptionally energetic and are used to high activity levels. You should expect to walk your Golden Boxer for at least minutes each day as an adult, slightly less with mixed-breed pups. The average lifespan of a Boxer Golden Retriever mix is between 10 and 14 years, barring any significant health concerns. Houses with yards and families with children Temperament: Happy, clever, intelligent, protective, alert, watchful, and eager to please. It has increasingly become popular in the last years, with breeders developing more diverse species. The parent breed, the Golden Retriever, was developed in Scotland in the mids by Lord Tweedmouth. This dog was created as a solution for hunters who needed a dog adept at retrieving downed waterfowl. On the other hand, the Boxer originated in Germany back in the s. Bred as a guard dog, this dog was put in an exhibition in in Munich and later arrived in the U. S and Europe in the s. They were used as messenger dogs, attack dogs, and pack carriers during World War 1. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. Golden Boxer Puppies A post shared by Russell russellthegb Golden Boxer puppies are cute, cuddly, and full of energy, and this tends to stay the same even as they grow. They are very happy and love to spend time with their families. These dogs are unlikely to be found in rescue shelters and often come from breeders so we recommend you do your homework and ask all of the right questions before you begin to work with any breeder. Apart from paying for your new dog, you need to ensure you factor in other initial costs associated with bringing a puppy home, such as a leash, crate, dog collar, microchip, and medical costs if your dog is not neutered. These expenses are a necessity, especially if you are a first-time dog owner. Your dog will thank you for them all. They are intelligent and clever; therefore, they can learn quickly and love to please their owners. They are affectionate, loyal, and outgoing breeds that also love playing with and entertaining children. Golden Boxers tend to be very shy and reserved around strangers, but this is advantageous because it makes them fantastic watchdogs. However, they are not aggressive to strangers but will alert you about the presence of a new face. Golden Boxers are ideal for an active, fun-loving family. These dog breeds are also very patient and willing. Despite been very polite, this dog can be high-spirited sometimes like the parent breed, the Boxer. As a family dog, too much isolation can lead to depression or destructive behavior such as continuous barking and chewing items in the house. Are These Dogs Good for Families? However, they still need early socialization and training to bring out these qualities further. These breeds tend to bond very closely with the family. If you are always at work without a sitter or family member around, this may not be the best dog species for your family. They are great pets to have around children because they like playing with them a lot. They should avoid habits such as tail pulling, rough play, and teasing. They also bark a lot when they are upset but make good guard dogs for the house when the family is sleeping. The Golden Boxer adapts well to sharing space with cats and other dogs. However, when small cats run away due to intimidation, the prey drive might kick in, and your Golden Boxer might chase the cat. When socialized at an early age, this dog breed will co-exist with other dogs peacefully. It makes friends very quickly; therefore, it will engage with other animals or pets that walk stray into your compound. This breed needs lots of attention from the family; therefore, you need to provide all the necessities. Like any other dog breed, you need to know the diet requirements, training and exercise needs, grooming, and any health and medical conditions. You can include quality lean meats such as lamb, beef, and chicken. When planning the feeding schedule, the diet should be according to the size, age, and activity level. These breeds are highly prone to bloating; therefore, they should not be fed all the food at once. The meals should be spread out to 2—3 meals throughout the day together with water. In addition, you should feed the dog an hour or two before an exercise session. When feeding your Golden Boxer, avoid foods that use meat by-products or other non-meat as their first ingredient. Once you buy food from the stores, follow the instructions on the package to ensure that the meals are served correctly. This dog tends to become obese and develop joint issues. Apart from food, the treats should also be kept to a minimum. To avoid this, you should schedule one long daily walk or two hours of engaging activity. Because of their high energy needs, the ideal owner for this dog breed is an active person who can bring the dogs along for a jog, hike, or walks. This dog can adapt well to living in an apartment, but with enough exercise outside. This dog species is perfect if you have a yard. You can plan for activities such as walks in the dog park. These walks in the park are also suitable for his socialization process. It helps bring out the best qualities in your pet and makes things easier for you. Exposure to new people, places, and situations and puppy training classes will encourage your dog and make it comfortable. It will also discourage some aggressive behaviors because the dog is more comfortable. Because of this, it will also listen to commands much faster without requiring a lot of repetition. During the training, you should be firm and confident. Also, use positive reinforcement such as praises to encourage your dog to pick up commands much easier. Incorporate some treats to keep your puppy happy during the training session. You should also avoid shouting or yelling at your dog during training. The sessions should also not be very long. Shorten them to an hour or less each day to help with concentration. Because Golden Boxers are devout people-pleasers, they use these moments to show you how well they respond. In addition, this may also be a perfect time to strengthen the bond between you and the dog. These dogs are moderate shedders; hence will need regular brushing, ideally once a day. Brushing daily is good because it helps to keep the coat tangle-free and keeps loose hair away from your home or car. The breeds with a long double coat require frequent trimming. You can either do this at home or hire a professional groomer. You should bathe your dog only when necessary and ensure that you use dog shampoo to protect the fur coat. This dog breed also has floppy ears; hence, they should always be kept clean to avoid infection. It would be best if you also kept them dry at all times. You can also do this by wiping with a damp cloth or cotton ball. In addition, you should trim the nails and brush the teeth at least three times a week. Breeders always try to improve their health conditions by carrying out selective breeding. However, even with this precaution, some conditions might be passed down to the offspring. Therefore, you should always research the potential medical conditions your pup may be prone to, as well as ask the breeder for medical records before taking your dog home. Minor Conditions. The puppies are called — adorably — Golden Boxer puppies! But before you are overcome with cuteness and rush out to find a litter of Golden Retriever Boxer puppies, it is wise to learn more about what your puppy might be like as an adult dog. In this article, we take a close look at the Golden Retriever Boxer mix dog so you can decide if this is the right companion for you! On one side, purebred dog breeders feel the breed lines should be kept pure. Any cross between two purebred dog breeds basically results in a mixed breed dog , or mutt. Conversely, canine biologists feel cross-breeding two purebred dog breeds together can have benefits to overall canine health. Since it is not possible to predict in advance which traits a puppy may inherit from either parent dog, the best way to try to imagine what your new pup might be like is to learn more about both the Golden Retriever and the Boxer. Origins of the Golden Retriever The Golden Retriever is currently the third most popular companion canine in the country. This gorgeous dog is of Scottish descent, with a long and honorable lineage as a working dog. This dog is just so friendly and sociable! Goldens make terrible guard dogs but wonderful best friends. The Golden Retriever, not surprisingly, takes its name from its long, lush golden coat. Origins of the Boxer The Boxer is currently the tenth most popular companion canine in the country. This dog, with its short coat and upturned ears, can easily turn heads. The Boxer is a truly ancient dog breed that can trace its lineage back to the time of the ancient Assyrians 2, BC. However, the modern Boxer arose in the s in Germany and soon migrated to the UK, where it became a favored working and pet dog. The Boxer gets its name from how it fights or boxes with its front paws — just like a prize fighter. What is the Golden Retriever Boxer mix dog like? The ability to predict what a Golden Retriever Boxer mix dog will be like has everything to do with the generation of puppies. The earliest litter, or F1 generation, will vary the most in size, weight, height, temperament, coat and other factors. These puppies are born from a pure cross of a Golden Retriever with a Boxer dog. The next litter, or F1b generation, will be more predictable in all attributes. These puppies are born from a cross between one purebred parent either a Golden Retriever or a Boxer with a Golden Retriever Box mix parent. Subsequent litters, or F2, F3, F4, and so on, will become more uniform over time. With longevity of breeding programs, what was once a hybrid dog breed may even become standardized as a new purebred dog breed! Males tend to be taller and heavier than females. Females tend to be about 15 pounds lighter and 1. From this, you can guesstimate your Golden Retriever Boxer Mix puppy will likely fall within the weight range of 60 to 75 pounds and stand .The Boxer, on the other hand, sheds very little and normally needs only a weekly brushing to keep coat and skin in tip-top condition. From this you can imagine how diverse the possible coat types in a litter of Golden Boxer dog puppies might be! You may find two pups with completely different coat types even within the same litter, especially if the litter is an F1 or F1b generation. Personality and Temperament of a Golden Retriever Boxer mix Even most non-dog-lovers know that Golden Retrievers are incredibly friendly. If they were people, they would be the ones planning the happy hours and pool parties. Boxers are bright, loyal, affectionate and loving. They are very patient and have natural protective tendencies that can necessitate extra efforts to socialize them in puppyhood. Both breeds tend to be exuberant and playful while young and can be stubborn at times because they are very smart. But both are natural people-pleasers and will take well to positive training methods. With two such positive, outgoing and people-pleasing parent dogs, you are quite likely to find that your Golden Retriever Boxer mix puppy has a lovely personality and temperament overall! Health Issues of Golden Retriever Boxer Mix dogs Both Golden Retrievers and Boxers, like so many purebred dogs today, can have certain genetic heritable health issues you will want to be aware of. Golden Boxer dog breeders who are serious about breeding healthy puppies will have their breeding stock parent dogs pre-screened and tested for all known breed-specific health conditions to avoid passing any preventable conditions on to the puppies. Commonalities in Health Concerns It is important to know that both Golden Retrievers and Boxers are prone to developing certain types of cancers. The ongoing Golden Retriever Lifetime Study was set up to better understand one of the most pervasive types of cancer in Goldens, hemangiosarcoma, as well as risk factors for other types of cancer and serious health conditions. The average life expectancy for Golden Retrievers is 10 to 12 years. The average life expectancy for Boxers is also 10 to 12 years. Socialization and training needs for Golden Retriever Boxer mix dogs Both Golden Retrievers and Boxers are bright, energetic, sociable and come from a long lineage of working dogs. This makes training both a necessity and, usually, a joy, since you will be working with a dog that really wants to learn, interact and please you! However, it is worth saying that smart dogs like Golden Retrievers and Boxers will only do well when trained using positive reinforcement methods. Is a Golden Retriever Boxer Mix a good family dog? Based on a study of the overall temperament and personality traits of the Golden retriever and the Boxer, respectively, the Golden Retriever Boxer mix dog is quite likely to make a great family dog. This is true even for families with young children. How to Pick Golden Retriever Boxer mix puppies Choosing a Golden Boxer breeder that is reputable, responsible and serious about breeding healthy Boxer Retriever mix puppies will be critical. This is a question that is very personal, of course, but for the right family or individual, a Golden Retriever Boxer mix dog can make a great canine companion! If you already have some experience with a mix dog like this, let us know in the comments!

Once your tiny little puppy grows into adulthood, they are a good size for apartment or house living as long as they get out for plenty of exercise! I'm 8 years old and, if I may say so myself, probably the best thing to ever happen to my mama. We've had some great adventures together from traveling with the circus to camping trips to play time with other friends and their humans to just snuggling on the couch! It's been a stupendous journey but it's time to discover more adventures and spread more joy! I am full of love and willing to share all of it with you! I am perfectly content to snooze the day away, keeping your bed warm, or sniffing out all the great smells on some walks. I love meeting new people and dogs, but sometimes I like to take my time because some people are weird and kids can be grabby, ya know?! I'm not a fan of cats, as they're just too rude for my taste. Same with aggressive dogs, I'm a lover, not a fighter! But I can get defensive if I feel like me or my human are threatened. I don't like storms, like at all, but who can blame me, right? They are scary loud with flashing lights and I just don't like it! If you have something to help me stay calm and a nice couch I can curl up on, I'll be fine until it passes, but I do get a lil spooked. Because there are lots of storms here in Florida, I have gotten pretty anxious and lashed out at my fur brother a couple of times recently. I never hurt him, and we made up and are still friends, but I sometimes get a little worked up, but I'm working on it! If you have a tennis ball you need chasing and chewing, I'm your girl! I'm also a belly rub enthusiast receiving, not giving, silly , and quite the accomplished tug of war winner. I know lots of verbal and visual commands and, if I can toot my own horn for a second, I'm pretty darn good on a leash. Car rides are my jam! Windows up or windows down, I don't get sick and I just like to quietly stare out the window. I like my crate and sometimes sleep the night away in there, it's like my own little blanket fort! Don't be jealous, I'll share it with you too! I can't wait to meet you! So take a sniff at my pictures because my mom says I'm a natural model, but I think I just have good genetics, like duh, just look at me! My mama said we're willing to go on a long car ride if we find the perfect home and that made me so excited! Let's be friends so I can show you all the best scratching spots behind my ears! Ripley is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. Any puppies that qualify as a German Shepherd Mix are a cross between a German Shepherd and another dog breed. In a mixed breed, you can get any mix of characteristics in the parent breeds. German Shepherds tend to be strong-willed, intelligent, playful, and loyal. To get a full idea of what to expect in your puppy, be sure to ask the breeder about the other dog breed in the cross and check out the mother dog in-person to get a general idea about size and temperament. On the German Shepherd side, you have an independent dog with high intelligence and a playful spirit. German Shepherds make great family pets and are born protectors. Because of their protective instinct, they can be suspicious of strangers. Socialization early and often can help curb this suspicion and make them more open to new people and situations. German Shepherds also tend to be loving and have a lively personality. The German Shepherd Mix can have any or all of these characteristics plus any characteristics from the other parent breed in the mix. Before buying a German Shepherd Mix puppy and bringing them home, be sure to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed. If the puppies are being family-raised around children, you should be able to get an idea of how they will do in a family setting that includes children. The German Shepherd is a moderately adaptable working dog that was bred to guard, work, and herd. They do not tend to do well in apartments and are best-suited for houses with yards. GSDs prefer to be with their families and do not like to be alone. They also tend to prefer cooler climates as they are sensitive to heat. With a German Shepherd Mix, you could get a moderately adaptable dog that is just like a purebred German Shepherd. You could also end up with a dog that is more like the other parent breed. Talking with the breeder about the other parent breed can give you a good idea of what to expect. German Shepherds can be prone to elbow and hip dysplasia. You will need to ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross to get an idea of any other health concerns to be aware of in your German Shepherd Mix. Health screenings, clearances, and the genetic history of the parents can help allay concerns about potential health conditions. On the German Shepherd side, training and obedience classes are highly recommended for novice dog owners. Although GSDs are highly intelligent, pick up on things quickly, and train fairly easily, they can be stubborn with an independent streak. Regardless of the other parent breed in the cross, you should be prepared to enroll in obedience and training classes with your German Shepherd Mix. The experience will be beneficial to both you and your puppy and will also offer some opportunities for socialization. You will still want to ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross to get an understanding of what to expect during the training process. Professional grooming a few times a year and the occasional bath is also recommended. Regardless of the coat type, your German Shepherd Mix will need to have their nails trimmed monthly and their teeth brushed regularly. Not every dog will allow you to do this, so try to get a tooth brushing session in at least a few times a week to reduce tartar buildup. This will help prevent dental problems like tooth decay and gum disease. Plus, it will help cut down on bad breath! German Shepherds tend to have a high activity level. They were bred to run, herd, guard, and protect, so they are used to working and having a job to do. They are definitely not a lazy dog breed! Be sure to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed in the mix. You will still want to go in prepared for a high energy dog with the understanding that your German Shepherd Mix puppy may have an activity level closer to the other breed in the cross. If both are high energy dogs breeds, expect to end up with a high energy dog. A German Shepherd is a large dog breed that generally weighs between 55 and 90 pounds. They also usually stand between 22 and 26 inches tall at the shoulders. The other dog breed in the cross could result in a smaller or larger German Shepherd Mix. A German Shepherd generally lives for years. You should be able to expect a similar range in your German Shepherd Mix, but the other dog breed in the cross could affect this range. Our little guy came to us in an unexpected unique way. After a previous family was unable to take him, Jeff called us and asked if we were interested in coming out to meet the puppy that same day! They are willing to sit and talk through any questions you have, they give you a lot of information about the breed, and what to expect when you bring your puppy home. Another big plus for us was seeing that the kennels were clean and all the dogs that we saw looked very healthy. Our puppy was the sweetest when he first met us! He ran up to us, showered us in puppy kisses, and was just overall a happy chill little dude. He just had his first vet appointment and was given a clean bill of health! He is sweet, gentle, and such a fast learner! I have never met any dog with this level of intelligence and at such a young age! We have only had him for 6 days and he has settled in so quick and has already learned basic commands. Thank you so much Jeff and Rhonda for our new little addition to our family! We also have partnered up with several other high quality breeders that raise mini goldendoodle pups that meet our strict genetic criteria and testing. So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. As Goldendoodles are crossbreeds between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, their generational name will always include an "F. In the designation F1B, "B" indicates "Backcross", which means that a first generation offspring is bred back with one of the original breeds. As such, the F1B Goldendoodle inherits 25 percent of its genes from the Golden Retriever and 75 percent from its purebred Poodle. Both F1 and F1B Goldendoodle dogs make great family pets, but they do have some minor differences. For example, F1B Goldendoodles tend to be more non-shedding compared to F1 Goldendoodles thanks to the higher percentage of Poodle genetics. Whichever generation you choose, our Goldendoodle dogs are sure to capture your heart with their curly coat and gorgeous eyes. We ensure our beautiful dogs receive comprehensive veterinary care and are bred in a high-quality environment. This ensures you take home a healthy, well-socialized, and friendly Goldendoodle. When you bring a new puppy home, it's important to keep feeding it the same food that it has been eating at its previous home. The AKC advocates for the responsible ownership of dogs and promotes purebred dog events, such as the Westminster Dog Show. Go to source Talk to the person or organization that you are adopting your puppy from to see what food they are feeding it. They should willingly provide that info and they may even send you home with some if you can't find any to buy. If you can't find the right food in your local pet supply store, consider ordering it online. However, you would need to order it ahead of time so that you have it on hand when the puppy comes home. If you want to feed your puppy a different food from what it has been eating, you will need to switch its food over the course of several days. Feed that mix for several days. Finally, you can give the puppy all new food. If you are content to give your puppy the food it was originally eating, it's fine to do that. Every puppy will have different nutritional needs. Because of this, it's a good idea to discuss proper nutrition with your vet. They can suggest great foods to give your puppy and how much it should be eating. Go to source The right portion size depends on the size of your puppy and its metabolism. Ask your vet to teach you how to body score your puppy. This will allow you to do a quick visual check to see whether your puppy is losing or gaining weight. Tip: If your vet suggests a specific food but doesn't tell you how much to give your puppy, follow the instructions on the packaging. Doing 3 or 4 feedings per day allows your puppy to get enough nutrients without overwhelming its digestive system with a huge amount of food at once. This is especially important when your puppy is under 6 months old, as they have delicate systems. Go to source Don't just leave the food out all day. Take the food away after the puppy eats for about 10 or 15 minutes. Lab puppies should always have access to fresh water so that they can stay adequately hydrated. Put out a dish of water and dump it out, clean the dish, and refill it daily. Some puppies are really messy with their water dishes. To prevent a mess, try putting the water dish on a tray, so that spilled water won't go right onto the floor. They are almost square in appearance, with a strong body and sturdy legs. The maximum height for a male is 24 inches, which puts them in the medium-size dog category, but their sturdy build can make them seem much larger. Weights range from 85 pounds for a large male to 55 pounds for a smaller female. Field line bred dogs are often taller and somewhat thinner in build. Labrador retrievers are easily recognized by their broad head, drop ears and large, expressive eyes. Two trademarks of the Lab are the thick but fairly short double coat, which is very water repellent, and the well known "otter tail. The feet are described as "webbed," with longer skin between the toes to aid in swimming. The Labrador retriever is a moderately fast maturing breed, reaching adult height from six to 12 months, but possibly still filling out up to 2 years of age. Many Labs reach 12 to 14 years of age. Personality: In general, Labrador retrievers are excellent family dogs, as long as you keep in mind their need for exercise and training. These are dogs bred to work and work hard and they love to have jobs to do, particularly retrieving. Labs are usually good with other dogs, other pets, and children as long as training has toned down their natural exuberance. They are strong dogs and need some obedience training at an early age or they can be seen dragging their owners down the street at will. Owing to their energetic nature, Labradors who are left alone or not well exercised can become destructive — chewing, digging and barking to excess. The field line dogs are especially high-energy dogs, while some of the show line dogs become perfect couch potatoes at an early age. Chewing can be a problem because the strong retrieve urge gives them an oral fixation. Sturdy chew toys, exercise and training all help with this. Living With: Obviously, Labradors have a number of endearing traits or they would not be so popular. They are intelligent and fairly easy to train, partly from their desire to work with people. They are "easy keepers" and can become overweight if they are not exercised and food portions adjusted as needed. Labs are excellent family dogs because they do want to be with people and many do not do well as kennel dogs. Labradors do tend to be protective of their families and homes but are usually happy to greet company, too. With the strong retrieving instinct, they can develop into destructive chewers if not given appropriate toys and guidance. Labs may tend to "mouth" people and the solution is often simply to give them a toy to carry around, so their mouths are already full! These are very strong dogs and early training is necessary to have a dog that walks nicely on lead. The wonderful double coat that keeps the Labrador warm while retrieving in icy water also gives this breed top billing as shedders. Normally, their coats do fine with a quick weekly grooming, but at shedding time daily grooming is needed. The amount of exercise they need varies with the different lines: field line dogs can run all day, whereas show line dogs only need moderate exercise. History: Early in the s, some of the multipurpose dogs used in North America mostly Canada by hunters were shipped back to England. Many of these "water dogs" were of the Newfoundland type, but the smaller ones were often designated "St John's" dogs. In England, the breed was developed and refined probably with some flat-coated retriever input into the breed we recognize today. As is evidenced by their name, Labrador retrievers were bred and selected for their outstanding retrieving abilities, particularly in water. They have worked as partners with duck hunters in all kinds of weather and conditions. Their intelligence and desire to work as a partner with man has led to many other jobs, and to their current status as popular pets. Today, Labradors excel as service and guide dogs, family pets, scenting dogs for the military, customs and arson task force dogs, search and rescue dogs as well as hunting companions and performance dogs. The breed's good nature has propelled it to the number one ranking in popularity in America, a position it intends to keep. Despite their fame as indoor pets, they are even more at home outdoors. It should always be remembered that Labradors are water retrievers at heart and from early on, puppies show a strong desire to carry things around with them and a strong attraction to water, even puddles! Related Pet Care Articles. Although a playful pup sounds endearing, consider how many games of fetch or tag you want to play each day, and whether you have kids or other dogs who can stand in as playmates for the dog. Built for sport, the Lab is muscular and athletic. They have a short, easy-care coat, friendly demeanor, keen intelligence, and plenty of energy. Devotion to this breed runs deep; Labs are loving, people-oriented dogs who live to serve their families, and owners and fans sometimes liken their Labs to angels. The breed originated on the island of Newfoundland, off the northeastern Atlantic coast of Canada. Originally called the St. Today, most Labs skip the hard labor and spend their days being pampered and loved by their people. However, some Labs still serve as indispensable working dogs. They also excel as a search and rescue dog or as a retriever for hunters, thanks to their athletic build, strong nose, and courageous nature. And Labs have also become the breed to beat at dog sports such as agility and obedience competitions, especially obedience. In fact, owners say their sweet, helpful Lab is likely to greet an intruder and happily show them where the goods are stashed. One role has remained constant: wonderful companion and friend. If you are considering getting a Labrador Retriever, be sure to do your research to find a reputable breeder. Labrador Retrievers are wonderful dogs, but they require a lot of time and attention. They are not a good choice for people who are not active or who do not have a lot of time to spend with their pets. Originally called St. Although their heritage is unknown, many believe the St. The second Earl of Malmesbury was one of the first, and had St. The third Earl of Malmesbury was the first person to refer to the dogs as Labradors. In Newfoundland, the breed disappeared because of government restrictions and tax laws. Families were allowed to keep no more than one dog, and owning a female was highly taxed, so girl puppies were culled from litters. In England, however, the breed survived, and the Kennel Club recognized the Labrador Retriever as a distinct breed in .They also top the list in Canada and England. Today, Labs work in drug and explosive detection, search and rescue, therapy, assistance to those with disabilities, and as retrievers for hunters. They also excel in all forms of dog competitions: show, field, agility, and obedience. Labrador Retriever Size Males stand .Females stand .Aside from a winning personality, they have the intelligence and eagerness to please that make them easy to train. Training is definitely necessary because this breed has a lot of energy and exuberance. The working heritage of the Lab means they are active. This breed needs activity, both physical and mental, to keep them happy. There is some variation in the activity level of Labs: some are rowdy, others are more laid back. All thrive on activity. Some dogs show pain and lameness on one or both rear legs, but you may not notice any signs of discomfort in a dog with hip dysplasia. As the dog ages, arthritis can develop. Dogs with hip dysplasia should not be bred. Elbow Dysplasia : This is a heritable condition common to large-breed dogs. This can lead to painful lameness. Your vet may recommend surgery to correct the problem or medication to control the pain. Osteochondrosis Dissecans OCD : This orthopedic condition, caused by improper growth of cartilage in the joints, usually occurs in the elbows, but it has been seen in the shoulders, as well. It causes a painful stiffening of the joint, to the point that the dog is unable to bend his elbow. It can be detected in dogs as early as four to nine months of age. Cataracts : As in humans, canine cataracts are characterized by cloudy spots on the eye lens that can grow over time. Cataracts can usually be surgically removed with good results. Early in the disease, dogs become night-blind. As the disease progresses, they lose their daytime vision, as well. Many dogs adapt to limited or complete vision loss very well, as long as their surroundings remain the same. Epilepsy : Labs can suffer from epilepsy, which causes mild or severe seizures. Seizures may be exhibited by unusual behavior, such as running frantically as if being chased, staggering, or hiding. Seizures are frightening to watch, but the long-term prognosis for dogs with idiopathic epilepsy is generally very good. Puppies are born with TVD, which is a malformation of the tricuspid valve on the right side of the heart. It can be mild or severe; some dogs live with no symptoms, others die. TVD is detected by ultrasound. Research is ongoing to learn how widespread it is in the breed, as well as treatment. Myopathy : Myopathy affects the muscles and nervous system. The first signs are seen early, as young as six weeks and often by seven months of age. A puppy with myopathy is tired, stiff when he walks and trots. He may collapse after exercise. In time, the muscles atrophy and the dog can barely stand or walk. There is no treatment, but rest and keeping the dog warm seems to reduce symptoms. Dogs with myopathy should not be bred because it is considered a heritable disease. Bloat occurs when the stomach is distended with gas or air and then twists. The dog is unable to belch or vomit to rid themselves of the excess air in their stomach, and blood flow to the heart is impeded. Blood pressure drops and the dog goes into shock. Without immediate medical attention, the dog can die. Suspect bloat if your dog has a distended abdomen, is drooling excessively, and retching without throwing up. Theyalso may be restless, depressed, lethargic, and weak with a rapid heart rate. If you notice these symptoms, get your dog to the vet as soon as possible. Acute Moist Dermatitis: Acute moist dermatitis is a skin condition in which the skin red and inflamed. It is caused by a bacterial infection. The more common name of this health concern is hot spots. Treatment includes clipping the hair, bathing in medicated shampoo, and antibiotics. Cold Tail : Cold tail is a benign, though painful condition common to Labs and other retrievers. The dog may bite at the tail. It is thought to be a problem with the muscles between the vertebrae in the tail. Weekly checking and cleaning if necessary helps prevent infection. Labrador Retriever Care The lovable Lab needs to be around their family, and is definitely not a backyard dog. Labs show some variation in their activity levels, but all of them need activity, both physical and mental. Daily minute walks, a romp at the dog park, or a game of fetch, are a few ways to help your Lab burn off energy. However, a puppy should not be taken for too long walks and should play for a few minutes at a time. It is up to you to end play and training sessions. Without training, a rambunctious Lab puppy will soon grow to be a very large, rowdy dog. Luckily, Labs take to training well; in fact, they often excel in obedience competitions. Start with puppy kindergarten , which not only teaches your pup good canine manners, but helps them learn how to be comfortable around other dogs and people. Look for a class that uses positive training methods that reward the dog for getting it right, rather than punishing them for getting it wrong. Normal play on grass is fine, as is puppy agility, with its one-inch jumps. Labrador Retriever Feeding Recommended daily amount: 2. She was born in on February 14, Valentine's Day, which is funny because she is a chocolate labby: I got Maggie in the spring of .And totally crazy. For the first few months I had her, I had a tough-love relationship with her. Because she was pretty much out of control, along with being a very dominate puppy , I had to make sure from the beginning that she knew that I was the pack boss. As she got older she also showed some signs of aggression to dogs and people outside of our pack family. Maggie took to training like a pro. She loved to "work", as I called it. Her attention and focus on me was, and still is, out of this world. When she is playing with her doggie friends, I can call her out and she will practically fly to me, completely forgetting the other dogs and instead focusing on me. Her focus on me was so great that she was off leash trustworthy in nearly any situation by 11 months. Now at almost 5 years old, she is perfect. It takes a lot to get a dog close to perfection, and Maggie is as close to it as a dog can get in my opinion. I call them The Three Hoods. I had heard people say if you have a good dog and you get a puppy, the older one will play a big part in training the new pup; I now know that is true. They are a huge part of our family and we couldn't imagine life without them. He is waiting for his owner to throw him the ball. Notice how his tail is up. That indicates that he is in an excited state of mind. Oscar gets a lot of excited physical exercise playing ball. This type of exercise tires out the body, but keeps the mind in high excitement mode. A pack walk is also needed to exercise and calm the mind. Never met a stranger. Miss him dearly. He likes to sleep a lot and play tug-of-war. He also likes to dig up the yard which mommy and daddy aren't too happy about .He loves walks and playing with other dogs. He's a very smart pup and learns very fast. He's practically potty trained—we use the ring the bell on the door system—and he sleeps through the night. He also likes to cuddle on your lap, which could pose a problem when he's 80 lbs. Labradors "Molly Girl at 2 months—Molly is every bit chocolate Lab, but with none of the horror stories I was warned of! She is not super high energy, probably due in part to the daily exercise I make sure she gets. She is eager to please and extremely loyal. She greets everyone with a wag of the tail and loves to be loved on! As with any dog, consistency is important when training, and thanks to that, and dog parks , Molly is the perfect dog: " Ripley the silver Labrador Retriever at 11 months old Silver Labrador Retriever, photo courtesy of Crist Culo Kennels Tai the chocolate Lab at 1 year old with a long stick in his mouth Three adorable puppies showing the three Labrador colors, front to back, black, yellow and chocolate, photo courtesy of Mirage Labrador Retrievers "This is our newly adopted black Lab named Dozer. He is one and a half years old in this picture and we adopted him from the pound. Like most Labs he loves the water as you can see in the picture ; in fact, he loves it a little too much. We need to work with him on not obsessing over the water so much, but he is so eager to please that it shouldn't be too hard. We take him on two walks a day with him carrying a doggy backpack, one being a three-mile walk with at least a half hour of swimming. I watch the Dog Whisperer all the time so I know that with following his methods and with Dozer being so eager to please that whatever issues he has we will be able to improve them. Cappy is an all-around great companion and fun dog. His favorite activities include car rides, swimming, fetch, meeting new people and playing with his big sister, a black Lab. However, a healthy six-month-old labrador will grow significantly in size. Some of them can weigh up to 50 pounds. For a more balanced diet at six months, you can shift from feeding your puppy three smaller meals per day to two meals a day. To counteract this, you can drop the amount of food and gradually increase it. Setting Your Lab Puppy Up for Successful Potty Training Training an animal to control their bladders until you get outside is no different than potty-training for toddlers. In other words, crate training speeds up the potty-training process for your pet. Effective crate training depends on two things: Praising and rewarding your puppy for relieving itself outside. They come to understand this as a desirable behavior. Preventing your puppy from going to the toilet within the home. So, why is using a crate to train your puppy to go outside so effective? Initially, this should be every hour or so. As labs grow older, you can reduce the frequency as they learn to hold and release independently. Step 2: House Training a Lab Puppy Housetraining or potty-training small labs can be, well, frustrating. As a pet owner, there are simple ways to train your puppy to understand ideal behavior quickly. Instead, they simply forget that they should control it. This helps avoid any issues early on. Keep small labrador puppies off the carpet. How to Feed Your Dog for Optimal Growth Feeding your labrador puppy a balanced diet could be an entire guide all on its own. It can feel overwhelming because you do have many options when it comes to feeding your dog. For example, if you work from home, it would be easy to feed your dog homemade dog food. Similarly, you might work a and yet want to reap the health-related benefits of a raw diet. Make sure to speak to your vet first. You do have choices for what to feed your puppy and you can mix and match these. Popular feeding options for any animal include kibble, wet food, raw food, and home-cooked food. Remember, a puppy is still growing, and they need a complete profile of nutrients and minerals to support their development. There are many commercial brands of dry food or kibble to choose from and you can adjust what you buy based on the ingredients. Do your research and find a brand you trust, with as much bioavailable nutritional content as is helpful. These can harm your puppy. In order to maintain good health and prevent simple ailments, your puppy can also benefit from taking a supplement. Some families choose to mix scraps or raw food with kibble to provide moisture and decrease the amount of food versus the calories consumed. Any veterinarian will tell you that a hard and fast rule is not necessarily the type of food but the amount. Obesity is a condition that can lead to many health issues for this breed. Over-exertion, especially for a puppy, is possible. This includes activities like playing fetch or tug and release. However, breeds that worked as a hunting companion for humans love to be active. Again, this goes back to the strengths of the breed. Keeping up with your puppy could be a task-and-a-half, so in the first months of life, you should be keeping them in your backyard or playing with them at home. As they become house trained and get all their vaccinations, you can turn walks into light jogs or runs if you want. In the long-term, exercise will help keep dogs healthy and disease-free. However, early dog training can eliminate common problems with puppy temperament and help make sure that your fur friend is always as friendly and happy as possible through the years. Puppy socialization simply means making your puppy open to and familiar with new experiences. You want to provide stimulation and encounters with experiences that they will probably face as adults. The window of opportunity to make sure your puppy is always a happy and friendly pooch closes around 14 weeks. You can head to an off-leash dog park to allow them to explore and meet other fur friends. You can also take them beyond your backyard to the countryside to enable them to swim or set up obstacle courses and play with them. Another thing that people forget about is spaying or neutering their dogs. Spaying or neutering your dog could help with behavioral issues and can also reduce the onset of certain health conditions. At the same time, spaying or neutering a puppy too early may also lead to health issues. For many people, this is a worthwhile and even enjoyable trade-off. A happy, sociable dog is always the result of consistent training. Training your dog is a significant aspect of their early years. The different stages include: Get it — Using positive reinforcement, trainers will help your dog carry out actions without commands. Teach it — This stage harnesses the progress you made in the previous stages. Your dog now knows the word and the action that goes with it. Proof it — Proofing is where many people get stuck. Your dog will learn to listen and obey commands at this stage even when they are engaged in other things. Maintain it — Consistently using the techniques you learned to keep your dog following the same desirable behavior. All breeds of dogs respond best when you train them. Every labrador retriever relies on their human taking control and showing them how to respond in any situation. You can be sure that if you follow these tips that you will be taking proper care of your new puppy and will be able to make sure that your puppy will live a long and healthy life. Share on.

Buying A Boxer Puppy? Finding Your Puppy -- Buying From the Breeder The conscientious breeder plans a breeding to reproduce the best characteristics of an outstanding sire or dam. His guide is the official AKC Standard of the breedthe written "blueprint" that helps keep the breed uniform for generations to come. You can find the breed standard, revised in , at the American Boxer Club website: www. The more common disappointments for pet purchasers come from commercial sources--especially pet shops that often buy puppies from the infamous "puppy mills" that take little notice of the quality or health they are producing. The pet store or dog broker will sell you a puppy with a breeder's name attached to the paperwork--but this puppy may easily have been born in a puppy mill. The reputable breeder, on the other hand, will not only be able to demonstrate the pedigree and registration papers, but will also show you either the sire or dam themselves, or pictures of the parent who may be owned elsewhere. Though the mere presence of "papers" does not guarantee good health, conformation, or temperament, you will most often find these attributes in the puppy who has been raised with loving care in the home or kennel of a conscientious hobby breeder. The serious breeder often strives to produce a potential "champion. Sometimes the distribution of white markings alone may make the difference between the so-called "pet" and show-potential puppy. The pet puppy will have benefited from the same proven bloodlines, nutrition, and medical care as its "champion" littermate. His breeder will have health tested the parents and done the best he can to insure good temperament, soundness, and longevity. Here is your best buy. Boxer magazines publish ads from breeders. The American Boxer Club web site www. Usually any time after weeks. Many states have regulations regarding minimum age. However, your individual circumstances must be considered. Do you have the time to spend with a very young puppy? Will someone be home to housebreak him? Would an exuberant 6-month old puppy overwhelm a tiny child? Or would he be better matched with a 6-year-old youngster? Remember too that the puppy under 3 months needs lots of time to rest. Don't forget that adult dogs, already trained, also make ideal pets. While much can be told at six to eight weeks about the puppy's eventual looks, if you are seeking a show prospect you might be better off waiting until the pup is six to eight months of age. At that time, be prepared to pay a higher price for all the additional time and effort that the breeder has spent raising the show potential Boxer. Male or Female? This choice is a matter of personal preference. Both males and females make admirable pets. Breeding is a serious committment of time, energy, and money, and not to be taken lightly. If breeding is not anticipated, it may be appropriate to spay or neuter your dog. This procedure is best done as your Boxer approaches adolescence. Please be aware that these surgeries should be discussed with your veterinarian as to safety of anesthesia and any long term effects other than sterilization. Spayed and neutered animals are not eligible to compete in the conformation ring but may be shown in performance events. Check this list! Tails should have been docked within a few days of birth. Optional removal of front dewclaws fifth toes is done at the same time. The Boxer has no rear dewclaws. Ear cropping is customary and appropriate but not required--it is a matter of personal preference. Uncropped ears are permitted under the breed standard. If cropped, this procedure is done under general anesthesia, usually between six and nine weeks of age. If the puppy is taken before cropping, the breeder usually makes arrangements. The breeder also advises regarding aftercare and taping if ears are not already standing. Sometimes this is a lengthy process. In the male, both testicles should be descended into the scrotum. They should be in place by two to three months of age. A dog with undescended testicles may still make a fine pet, though he would be ineligible to compete in the conformation show ring. Consult your veterinarian for advice. Avoid the unusually quiet, inactive puppy, or the one that might shy away from you. This might mean a fault in temperament or even ill health. Papers the Seller Should Furnish: a. A three or four generation pedigree signed by the seller. There should be no extra charge for this. The pedigree preferably gives the color of the sire and dam, and the AKC registration numbers of each. The registration from the AKC, which is an official document identifying your puppy's individual registration number, sex, birth date, sire and dam, and name of the breeder s. There are two ways to register puppies for the first time: 1 Limited Registration If the puppy is not to be bred, and is being purchased only as a companion pet, the breeder may check off the Limited Registration option. This does register the puppy with the AKC. However, it does not allow any registration of offspring from the mature dog. The breeder and only the breeder can cancel the limited registration should the puppy at maturity be considered of breeding quality. Records the Breeder Should Furnish: a. Date and type of vaccines given. Depending on the type of vaccination program started, your veterinarian will advise you on following through. Vaccination protocols are evolving even among the medical professionals. Date and agent used for worming, if done. Do not worm your puppy without consulting your veterinarian. Avoid store-bought preparations which can be dangerous. Diet your puppy has been receiving. It is well to maintain the regimen begun by the breeder, especially while the puppy is adjusting to his new home. If changes are to be made. When he is an adult it will be wise to maintain your Boxer on two smaller meals a day. Vocality level 3 in 5 Disclaimer: While the characteristics mentioned here may frequently represent this breed, dogs are individuals whose personalities and appearances will vary. Please consult the adoption organization for details on a specific pet. Temperament The Boxer is playful, exuberant, inquisitive, attentive, demonstrative, devoted, and outgoing; this dog is a perfect companion for an active family. Boxers can be stubborn, but are sensitive and responsive to commands. They may be assertive toward strange dogs, but are generally good with other family dogs and pets. Upkeep The Boxer needs daily mental and physical exertion. They likes to run, but their exercise needs can also be met with a good jog or long walk on leash. They do not do well in hot weather. Some snore. The coat needs only occasional brushing to remove dead hair. Health Major concerns: boxer cardiomyopathy, SAS, CHD Minor concerns: gastric torsion, hypothyroidism, corneal erosion, colitis Occasionally seen: brain tumors, degenerative myelopathy Suggested tests: thyroid, hip, cardiac Holter monitoring Life span: 8—10 years Note: Sensitive to heat. White boxers may be deaf. The drug acepromazine can cause severe reactions. History The Boxer derives from two central European breeds of dog that no longer exist: the larger Danziger Bullenbeiser and smaller Brabenter Bullenbeiser. Bullenbeiser means bull-biter, and these dogs were used to chase large game through the forest. This required a strong but agile dog with a broad powerful jaw and a recessed nose. In England, the Bulldog was the favored breed for the sport, whereas in Germany large mastiff-type dogs were used. Around the s, German hunters began a concerted effort to create a new breed, crossing their Bullenbeisers with mastiff-type dogs for size, terriers for tenacity, and, finally, Bulldogs. The result was a tough agile dog with a streamlined body and strong grip. By , an entirely new breed, the Boxer, had been established. Although the exact origin of the name Boxer is obscure, it may have been derived from the German Boxl. The Boxer was one of the first breeds to be employed as a police and military dog in Germany. By , the breed had become established as a general utility dog, family pet, and even show dog. The AKC recognized the breed soon after, but only in the s did the breed begin its steady rise to the top of the popularity charts, eventually peaking as the fourth most popular breed in America. Related Content. Life Span Did You Know? The Boxer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Checking and wiping their facial wrinkles weekly or a few times a week if your dog is prone to getting into things can help keep their wrinkles clean and free of irritation. Dental diseases, like gum disease, are the most common health issues in older dogs because dental care is often overlooked; and, it can lead to other serious health issues. Brushing daily, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed that needs plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Due to their high prey drive and urge to chase, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Boxers tend to get bored with repetition, are excellent problem solvers, and are naturally exuberant. A fully-grown Boxer usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Boxers generally live years on average. In Germany, the Boxer was one of the first dog breeds chosen for police training. Featured Boxer Article.

white french bulldog puppies - By Nick Lee September 2, Mixed breeds dogs are on the rise! In recent years, owners have been more drawn to mixed breeds thanks to rescues becoming more popular, and the health benefits of breed variety in a dog. Many mixed breeds are becoming standard, such as the Goldendoodle, Bernadoodle, etc. What is a Pugweiler? A Pugweiler is a puppy of a Pug and a Rottweiler. It does not matter which parent is which, but combining the two creates a miniature version of a Rottweiler in coloring, with a pug face usually. History of the Pug Pugs are an ancient breed, with roots dating back to B. They were bred as companions for the wealthy. The Pug was recognized by the AKC as a breed early on in .The Pug is classified as a companion dog, which is exactly what they do best. They have an easy going temperament, thrive for companionship, are affectionate and playful, and love to be the center of attention. History of the Rottweiler Rottweilers are commonly believed to be one of the oldest dog breeds. The Roman Empire is believed to have created the breed when they needed a strong dog to move and guard their herds all across Europe. Using Asian Mastiff type dogs, they are believed to have bred the first distant relative of the Rottweiler, leaving them behind in Germany when they abandoned the area. The formal history of the breed dates back to , when the first standard Rottweiler was bred by the International Club for Leonbergers and Rottweiler Dogs in Germany. The breed was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club in .In history, Rottweilers served many different roles. The breed is large, fearless, loyal, intelligent, obedient, and actually quite friendly, making them a great working dog or companion dog for people nowadays. Combining the Two Pugs are classified as small dogs, weighing in around pounds, while Rottweilers are in the large or extra large category, averaging about pounds. Pugs are round and short, with flat faces and wrinkles, while Rottweilers are tall and muscular, with an average snout and stocky build. Pugs have a fairly standard double coat, usually fawn or black, with fawn having black markings around the muzzle and face. The coat is short and smooth, but sheds heavily. They require regular nail trimmings, as they are not a working breed and will mostly dwell in the house. They cannot tolerate heat or altitude as well, and must be closely monitored to ensure they remain healthy. Rottweilers have a short double coat that is straight and coarse. They have undercoats that vary depending on the climate in which they live, but are known to be shedders. Their coat may feel silky, but certain parts are longer and shorter, depending on where it is on their body. The Rottweiler is always black with markings that are some variation of brown. The markings appear over the eyes, on the cheeks, on their muzzle, on the chest and legs, and beneath the tail. The two breeds do not have much in common, as you can tell. Breeding a small breed and large breed can be dangerous, and combining the two different personalities could create behavioral and health issues. Dogs of the Pug Rottweiler mix can take after either parent breeds in any aspect, making them inherently hard to predict. However from photos we have found online, most pugweilers seem to take the face and body of the pug and the coat of the rottweiler. Advantages of crossbred dogs We mentioned early that mixed breed dogs are becoming more popular, and with good reason. Not only is rescue becoming more popular, but mixed dogs are oftentimes healthier than purebred dogs. To put it simply, mixed breed dogs take the best and worst things from their mixes, creating a lower chance of the negative things affecting them. Purebreds, on the other hand, take the good and bad of the one breed, which means the bad can affect them more, as it is not offset by other good. A study found that purebred dogs have a significantly greater risk of developing many of the hereditary disorders in their bloodline. This does not mean all mixed breed dogs are healthier than purebreds, or that purebreds are unhealthy. With proper genetic testing and breeding, purebred dogs can be extremely healthy, and mixed breed dogs can have many health conditions as well. Pugweiler health conditions While mixing up the gene pool can help lower the risk of some ailments or diseases, health problems still naturally occur in both breeds. Pugs are notoriously one of the least healthy dog breeds out there. Pugs are prone to and commonly known to suffer from: Skin conditions Wrinkles are a breeding ground for bacteria and require routine cleaning Allergies Pugs are very prone to skin allergies which cause itching Respiratory issues such as Brachycephalic Airway Obstruction Syndrome, which obstructs airflow in the airways, usually brought on by heat or exercise Seizures Bone and joint problems Many issues can occur here, including slipped discs, hip dysplasia, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, and more Eye issues Such as bulging eyes, entropion, blindness, glaucoma, etc. Rottweilers are a fairly healthy breed, but also have their own ailments. They live around years, which is average for a large dog. Rottweilers are known to suffer from: Hip Dysplasia due to their large size Arthritis Eye issues progressive retinal atrophy PRA ,cataracts, eyelid deformities, etc. Entropion Heart problems Fairly high rate of cancer Combining the breeds can result in any of the following issues from either breed. Most notable, eye issues and bone and joint issues occur in both, making them likely to occur in a crossbreed of the two. Because of this, the two are both suitable to be house pets. Pugs are content to be lazy and lounge around on the couch. They even make great apartment pets, though they can be a bit noisy. Rottweilers are a bit more of a protective dog at first, but with proper introductions, can do well with just about anyone. They may not do well around small pets or children, and require a bit too much exercise to be kept in an apartment. Combining the two creates a dog who will likely need exercise, but not too much that it may cause a health issue, should live in a house, and be slowly introduced to small animals, other pets, children, people, etc. This all depends on the genetic makeup of your Pugweiler, and the dog itself, of course. Grooming a Pugweiler Pugweilers will require frequent grooming, as both breeds are very prone to shedding. Because of this, you will want to monitor how much time they spend outside in humid or wet conditions. How to Get a Pugweiler Pugweilers are not a commonly bred mix for a number of reasons, including health issues and the unlikely pairing, but it is still possible to find them, though not often from reputable breeders. Instead, check your local shelters for Pug and Rottweiler mixes. Check out Petfinder or other pet adoption websites to see what mixes are available and try to find one there. You never know what mixes you could find in a shelter, and an oops litter is more likely to have the Rottweiler Pug combo than a breeder is. Related Posts:. How does it happen might be your first question when considering the combination of Rottweilers and Pugs? Pugs are clearly not large dogs compared to Rottweilers. Because of this, this must be carried out with extreme care and by a qualified breeder. A male pug cannot interact with a female Rottweiler for mating purposes. Therefore, you have to choose carefully between the Rottweiler parent being a male or a female. The mixed breed of dog has a lot of benefits and drawbacks after mating. By Crossbreeding a female Rottweiler and a male Pug, we get the perfect mixed breed, called the Pug Rottweiler mix. This Pug-Rottweiler mix will be in excellent health. The likelihood of any serious health problems for him or her will be extremely minimal, which is fantastic. This will also result in a longer lifespan for the dog and lower costs for you. This is a fantastic way to enjoy all the benefits of a rottweiler without having to deal with its hostility and violence. Shedding is one of the drawbacks of this mixed breed. Both breeds perspire. Pugs shed constantly, but Rottweilers often shed twice each year. There will likely be dog fur everywhere. There are steps that can be taken to address this problem. People often give cute nicknames to their pets. Sometimes, they often tend to give nicknames to some dog breeds, especially crossbreeds, mixing the two names of the purebred parent breeds. Essentially, the nicknames are nothing but a combination of the two dog breed names. Meet The Parent Breeds Yes, the parent breeds of the Pug Rottweiler mix are known to be great family dogs, but we must agree on the fact that this is a rather strange mix. These two breeds do have different backgrounds as well as different personality types. The Rottweiler breed is known as a great guard dog, a watchdog of Mastiff descendants; some say that they are better working dogs than German Shepherds. However, different from the Rottweiler dogs, the Pug parent breed has a bit more of a laid-back personality. This pooch does not require crazy amounts of training and exercise. However, it does require a bit more health maintenance. This mix results in a medium sized dog whose character may have dominant traits of either parent. The Rottweiler Rottie dogs are a very old breed. The breed was developed in Rome in the year .They were utilized to herd livestock at the time and were known as Roman Drover Dogs. These dogs were employed by the Romans in the Roman Empire to distribute food to the troops as they attempted to conquer Europe. The drover dogs were in charge of the cattle that the Romans would bring along as a source of sustenance. Later, the butchers would simply kill the animals, load the meat into a cart, and move the cart alongside the soldiers. On carts, they would pull heavy loads of meat. They were designed to be extremely durable and sturdy. Eventually, Rottweilers made their way to Germany, where they became better renowned. They were employed as police, military, and security dogs in Germany. They protected and assisted people serving mostly in the German army while working side by side with them. They eventually immigrated to the US and started living as household pets and guard dogs while continuing to serve as police dogs. They are presently among the most popular dog breeds in America. They were high-class small dogs. They were frequently owned exclusively by royal families. They eventually migrated to several regions of Asia and are still prevalent in royal families today. These pets were treated with the utmost respect. They led quite opulent lives. For the Chinese authorities that owned them, this was a crucial issue. They believed that the creases were lucky charms. They would understand the precise wrinkles as Chinese symbols or letters and decipher the messages their Pug was trying to convey. Pugs arrived in Europe when China began trading with other nations later in the s and s, primarily with those in Europe. Pugs arrived in America during the Civil War and quickly established themselves as the popular home pet that they are today. Although their lifestyle may not be as opulent as it was in China, the individuals who own them all across America adore and cherish them. It is impossible to predict with certainty how a mixed breed will look. This is due to the fact that you are unsure of which breed your mixed-breed Rottweiler and Pug will resemble more. In terms of appearance and size, even dogs from the exact same generation frequently vary from one another! The body shape of a Rottweiler Pug hybrid dog will most likely resemble a Pug, with the exception of the face. The face will have a Rottweiler-like pointedness to it. This dog will weigh somewhere between 20 pounds and 12 inches in height. This is a typical pug size; thus, if the Rottweiler gene is present, the dog will be much bigger. Rottie puppies weigh around pounds and are roughly 25 inches tall. The pup you get from a male mix will often be larger. In both breeds, females often have smaller frames. The Rottweiler Parent A Rottweiler gives off a first impression of being strong, and this perception is mostly accurate. A little female Rottweiler can reach a height of 22 inches, while a huge male can reach a height of 27 inches, making them slightly taller than tall, giant dogs. Weights range from 36 to 54 kilograms or 80 to pounds. Blocky dogs with large heads is the usual description of the Rottweilers. Their ears are considerably drooping and close to the head. Although rottweilers have robust, square muzzles, their loose flies can make them a little drooly lips. The recommended length for tail docking is one to two vertebrae. Typical of the bigger dogs, Rottweilers can take a while to mature. Despite the fact that adult height is frequently established by one year of age, many do not attain their full adult growth until they are 2 or 3 years old. These dogs will gain weight, enlarge their chests, and mature into the enormous creatures we anticipate. The Pug Parent The Pug has relatively short legs and is a tiny, strong, barrel-shaped dog. Sadly, this can and frequently does result in breathing issues in this breed. Its eyes are big, round, and darker, and it has little, rose or button-shaped earlobes that are coated with fine, thinner hairs as opposed to velvet. This breed is renowned for having deep, many wrinkles covering both his cheeks and his temples. Pug tails are curled by nature. The tail could have one or two loops. This black mark on the forehead, which is not always present in Pugs, was once believed to be a lucky charm. Males and females have slightly distinct appearances; females tend to be slightly smaller and lighter than males. Pug puppies are much rounder than they will be as adults, with excess skin and a significantly narrower physique. By the age of two, they will have reached their full adult size. The tendency of Rottweilers to be aggressive is typically subordinated to this feature. This hybrid breed is incredibly sociable and welcoming. They enjoy interacting with people. Due to how much they adore being around people, they occasionally even experience separation anxiety whenever they are away from their owner or family. Due to these factors, the family and this dog would make a wonderful family. Mixed-breed Rottweiler-Pug dogs get along nicely with kids and other animals. They nevertheless make excellent watchdogs because this hybrid retains certain Rottweiler characteristics. They will defend their home and the individuals who are dear to them. When trained, you can rely on this puppy to be an exceptionally attentive dog. It is still crucial to socialize this dog, just as it is crucial to do so with any rottweiler, whether you decide to adopt or buy a Rottweiler-Pug mix. If a dog is not trained, they will all behave badly; therefore, start training them early. Pugs were developed as companions, and they excel at providing companionship. It is typically a calm dog breed and is pleased to be your personal lap dog while you watch a movie or read a book. This does not imply that the Pug is a personality-less dog breed. On the contrary, it is a humorous, energetic dog who loves to party and entertains his owner with ridiculous acts. Numerous elements, including training, socialization, and heredity, have an impact on temperament. Puppies with good dispositions are interested and playful, approachable, and want to be cuddled. Select a puppy that is in the midst of the pack rather than one that is bullying its littermates or cowering in a corner. Like any dogs, Pugs require early socialization or being exposed to a variety of sights, noises, and experiences when they are young. In order to guarantee that your Pug pup develops into a well-rounded dog, socialization is important. He should start by enrolling in a kindergarten class for puppies. Regularly hosting guests, taking him to crowded parks, dog-friendly shops, and on unhurried walks to encounter neighbors will all assist him in developing his social skills. Everyone has an opinion on them based on what they have read, heard, or personally experienced. Due to their breeding history and the purpose of making this dog breed, Rottweilers can be naturally more aggressive. They were initially developed to aid in conflict and collaborate with military troops, as you read previously. They were intended to work tirelessly and be aggressive, not to be lap dogs. This problem has been prevalent ever since they were adopted as domestic pets. Despite this having been such a strong and significant aspect of what Rottweilers are, these features are frequently still present in Rottweiler mixed breeds. The majority of the time, Rottweilers retain this feature. Pug and Rottweiler mix puppies are generally healthy when they are born, as was previously said. Both little dogs and giant dogs can have health problems, and size is frequently a defining characteristic of some health problems. Small dogs also encounter the same health problems, and many large dogs do as well. As a result, combining a large dog with a smaller dog helps to avoid many of the health problems which each size of dog encounters. Brachycephalic Syndrome , which causes Pugs to have narrower noses than the majority of other dog breeds, is a common condition. When at least 5 generations of Pugs have been bred, this occurs. As Pugs age, joint problems become a regular problem as well. Both of these Pug genetic conditions are aided by the genes of the Rottweiler. Possible Health Problems If you decide to purchase a dog from a reputable breeder, they should disclose any health issues you must become knowledgeable of so that you can plan ahead and anticipate some of these issues. Obesity is the only health problem that the Rottweiler Pugs regularly have. Both breeds are susceptible to gaining weight. You can stop it by giving your dog a lot of protein. They acquire weight when they eat grains. The majority of issues can be solved by feeding them properly. By conducting research and providing for your dog, you should therefore be capable of being ready for any health issues that your Rottweiler-Pug mix may encounter. Therefore, I present you with the most common Pug Rottweiler mix health issues: 1. Hip Dysplasia Both small and large breeds, including Pugs, are afflicted by this disease. It is believed that a variety of factors, including nutrition, environment, and heredity, are responsible for this hip joint malformation. With the right veterinary care, affected Pugs typically enjoy normal, healthy lives. Hip dysplasia is characterized by having huge joint problems of the bone connecting the hip with the main joint of the leg by the so-called hip socket. This condition can be solved by buying a dog from a reputable breeder and not at all costs from puppy mills. Demodectic Mange All dogs travel with a little companion known as a Demodex mite, sometimes known as demodicosis. In the first few days after birth, the mother dog infects her puppies with this mite. Only the mother may transmit the mite to her pups; it cannot be spread to people or other dogs. Demodex mites are parasites that dwell in follicles and are mostly harmless. Demodectic mange , however, can appear if your Pug mix has a damaged or compromised immune system. Localized or widespread demodectic mange are both possible. The forehead, chest, and forelimbs all develop red, scaly patches of the skin accompanying hair loss in the small section. It is regarded as a puppy ailment and frequently goes away on its own. The generalized type of demodectic mange can develop. Therefore, you should still take your dog to the vet. Older pups and young dogs are more susceptible to widespread demodectic mange, which impacts the entire body. Over its entire body, the dog develops skin infections, bald areas, and patchy skin. All dogs who get widespread demodectic mange should be neutered or spayed, according to the American Academy of Veterinary Dermatology, as there is a genetic connection. Breathing Problems Some dog breeds, such as Mastiffs, English bulldogs, Pugs, and their hybrids, are known for having smushed-up faces that make them look cute-ugly. But there is a price for those attractive features. For a long time, scientists believed that their shorter faces were the primary factor. However, genes discovered in another breed imply that the breathlessness may be in their DNA! Even if the face bones are smaller, the smooth muscles inside are still the same size and are crammed into a much smaller area. As a result, the nose, as well as upper airways become more constricted and more difficult to breathe through. The clinical symptoms caused by these impacts are described by BAOS. The main hereditary present from birth defects are enlarged and thick soft palates and stented nasal passages abnormally narrow nostrils. Maintenance When it comes to taking care of your mixed breed pooch, there are a few things to consider. As we, as humans, need some basic necessities, so do our furry friends! They need to be given high quality dog food, have yearly vet checks, and be groomed, exercised, and trained properly. Therefore, we will discuss these components in detail, so you can have a better, more detailed perspective when it comes to taking care of your pet and giving it the highest possible quality of life. They can consume a wide variety of human foods. However, it is recommended that you keep dogs on a diet that is high in dog food. The best food for Rottweilers is protein-based and contains little to no grains. The food you provide Rottweilers is crucial since it can significantly affect their weight. You need to carefully read the Rottweiler feeding chart! Pugs also require a rather specialized diet. They require extremely tiny dog food pieces. When they chew their food, it aids them. Therefore, it is wise to check the Pug feeding chart. In addition, a lot of Pugs have allergies to things like chicken, maize, soy, and wheat. Unfortunately, most dog foods contain all of them as common components. A lot of the best dog foods contain chicken as the main ingredient. It is preferable to avoid using chicken as the main ingredient due to this constraint. Additionally, avoiding foods with a high grain content is a smart idea. This aids in providing for the dietary requirements of both dog breeds. We advise that you do an allergy test prior to feeding your dog. Therefore you are aware of your possibilities when it comes to dog food. But adding some raw dog food components would be great for any kind of dog breed, for sure! Daily Exercise Needs Due to their high energy level, purebred Rottweilers typically require two hours of daily exercise. It also gives kids a wonderful outlet for some of their energy, which promotes their overall health. Conversely, pugs tend to have low to moderate levels of energy. The energy level of Rottweiler pug mixes is more moderate. They require room to be able to play and run around, but they must not be overworked because doing so could exhaust the Pug and make them overheat. Too many baths for them can cause their skin to become dry. This is not very beneficial for the dog, but it is also not very beneficial for anyone who is sensitive to dogs, as dry skin results in pet dander, which is what causes allergic reactions in people with pet allergies. These dogs do shed quite a bunch; therefore, brushing their fur is a good practice to keep the hair controlled and prevent the accumulation of a lot of hair. During these two times, you should wash their teeth once a day , and the remaining months of the year, around twice a week. Cleaning and clipping their nails is necessary for basic grooming. In addition, you should keep their ears clean and ensure that you brush their teeth. They are typically all rather simple to teach. It becomes slightly more difficult when these dogs are mixed together. Since Rottweilers are such dominating canines, they will attempt to assume the position of alpha if no one else is available. This mixed breed demands a master who will treat them with dominance. If you can do that, training will be simpler. They are exceptionally smart dogs, which is advantageous to you. Therefore this will happen. They get easier to train as they increase their workout level. Keep them active so that you may take advantage of that when teaching them. The training of this hybrid breed is crucial. The best form of training is socialization rather than any other kind. These puppies will become more well-rounded and prepared to interact with people or other dogs by being socialized. It will be beneficial for them if you take them to a dog park a few times per week so they can interact with other dogs. All mixed breed animals with Rottweiler genes fall under this category as well. The most critical action you can take for your Rottie is socialization. Even though it is much smaller than a Rottweiler, the coloration and appearance are frequently extremely similar also, just like the Doberman! You combine the finest of both worlds with this mixture. You receive a dog that is extremely healthy, attractive, devoted, lively, brave, and energetic. This mix will be among the outstanding guard dog s, as well as a lap dog just as great as a Chihuahua minus the fierce personality! They are medium-level energy dogs, which means that they need moderate activity. With such a designer breed, you have a truly special dog on your hands. You can welcome this outstanding dog into your home first! This designer dog is exactly as it sounds—a mix of a purebred Pug and a purebred Rottweiler dog. Each of the two breeds is very different in its demeanor and definitely in its size. The designer dog of this mix is called a Pugweiler for short. Learning about the traits of the two parent breeds will give you great insight into what to expect from this type of pup. The Pug originated in China and they were mischievous companions of the Chinese emperors. Pugs are a small breed of dog and they love to be loved and spread love to others as well. They like to play games with their families and get along amazingly well with everyone from kids to seniors and all people in between. The Rottweiler originated in the Roman Empire where he was a cattle and stock dog that herded food on hooves for the army. This required dogs that were very tough and durable to move the herds and to guard them at night as well. The dogs that the Romans brought to different areas of the world were bred from the giant breed English Mastiffs and the Rottweilers of today are from these bloodlines. Since your Pugweiler will be a mixture of both of these parent breeds, he will get some qualities from one parent breed and some from the other as well. As is normal when a Rottweiler is mixed with any other dog, you will likely have the telltale Rottweiler colors of black with rust markings, but your Pugweiler will likely be more of the size of a Pug or a bit bigger. Your beautiful baby will have cute droopy ears that are characteristic of both parent breeds and a very expressive face that is also in both parents. Being an active puppy means he will need a lot of chew toys for aggressive chewers, even though he has a huge personality in a small package. Pugs can become bored if left alone too long and they will definitely taste your favorite shoes if they can get to them as well as raid the trash can. Both these breeds of dogs are in a Pugweiler shed. Rottweilers usually only shed twice a year seasonally, but Pugs shed all year long and this can be an issue with dog dander in some households. They are very loving like a pug and their appearance is basically a miniature Rottweiler. You will get a very loyal and protective four-legged family member from the Rottweiler heritage without any of the aggression since the Pug is more of a clown. This may be the best of both worlds for a family dog in a smaller size with the best qualities of each breed. How Do Pugs and Rottweilers Breed? Since a Pug is a small dog and a Rottweiler is a large dog, you may wonder how they breed to make Pugweilers. The breeding is overseen by a good breeder and the female dog is impregnated by artificial insemination. This is a safe way to breed any small breed of dog to a much larger breed of dog. The mother has to be watched carefully when she goes into labor for any signs of problems and many times the female does need a cesarean section to deliver the babies without harm to the mom or the pups. All in all, it is much safer to breed a male Pug to a female Rottweiler for the safety of the breeding union. This will keep the puppies from having heads that are too large to deliver or entire puppies that are too large for the mom to deliver on her own. Appearance, Coat, and Colors of a Pug Rottweiler Mix As mentioned previously, most all puppies that are mixed between a Rottweiler and another breed pick up the coloration of the Rottweiler as a dominant trait. The body is black with rust markings on his legs, chest, and muzzle with two very expressive eyebrows in rust above his eyes. These are the same markings that a fawn Pug will have and every so often you may see a solid black Pugweiler that takes after the Pug side of the mix. Your Pugweiler will have the same short and straight coat as both parent breeds do. His body will appear very broad and stout while his legs are short and thick. His tail will be somewhere between long and short, most probably medium length. Pugweilers generally have a medium length of snout, more like a Rottweiler than a Pug. This is a good trait as Pugs with very short noses have breathing problems, so this mix helps you to avoid this health issue. Your beautiful pup will have a very expressive face and show expressions much as a human does with large brown eyes and a dark nose. Pugs reach a height of 10 to 13 inches at the shoulder at maturity and reach a weight of about 14 to 18 pounds. Rottweilers are 22 to 27 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh anywhere from 80 to pounds when fully grown, with the females erring on the shorter and lighter side of the range. You can expect your little furball to weigh about 20 pounds and stand about 11 to 12 inches tall at the shoulder at maturity. This is a very nice size to be able to take with you on errands or to any type of event you may attend. Personality, Traits, and Lifepan of a Pug Rottweiler Mix The personality and traits of your Pugweiler will depend on how much he favors each of his parents. Most of them are very intelligent and easy to train while loving their families to no end. They will protect you and your family but will have no aggression towards others unless it is warranted by your actions or feelings towards another person. Your particular Pugweiler may seem aloof like a Rottweiler with strangers until he gets to know them and then will be all over them with kisses from the Pug side of the family. The Pug has an expected lifespan of 13 to 15 years and the Rottweiler has a shorter lifespan of 9 to 10 years, as all larger dogs do. This means your Pugweiler will live to be around 10 to 13 years as the mix will lengthen his life because your precious pup is a smaller dog. Pug Rottweiler Mix Puppies for Sale This mix of designer dogs has been around for several years and was mainly sought after for a dog that looks like a beautiful Rottweiler in a small package that is full of life and fun-loving. You should make certain the breeder you choose is reputable. A good Pugweiler breeder will have already bred a purebred Pug to a purebred Rottweiler and then had a litter of puppies. Then they will have more experience of breeding two Pugweiler puppies together. This will give you a better idea of the crossbreeding of the two types of dogs and what they will appear like. Grooming Your Pug Rottweiler Mix The grooming needs of your new pup are very simple for this hybrid dog. The Pug side of the family has short and straight hair. The Rottweiler side of the family has a short and straight outer coat and a thick undercoat. Depending on which coat traits your four-legged friend picked up from his parents, he may have a single coat or a double coat. If he has a double coat, it is more likely that the undercoat is not very thick. Your pooch will only need to be brushed about once a week on a regular basis. Pugs do shed all year round, but the short hair is easy to contain and Rottweilers will shed heavily in the spring and the fall. If your Pugweiler sheds heavily twice a year, then you will need to brush him daily during the heaviest times that he blows his coat. Other than brushing, your Pugweiler should have his teeth brushed at least once a week using specially formulated dog toothpaste. Dogs love the taste of their toothpaste because it comes in beef and chicken flavors. As a pup, your Pugweiler will likely just like the toothpaste, but you will get some of its teeth brushed. Your puppy will have a longer attention span as he gets older and, eventually, you will be able to brush all of his teeth at one time to keep his pearly whites bright and glistening. Each time you brush your dog you should look at his eyes and ears to make certain they are clear and healthy. Both parent breeds have floppy ears which can harbor moisture and eventually lead to an ear infection. At the first sign of an eye or ear infection, you should take your Pugweiler to the vet so he can get antibiotics and get better very soon. Pug Rottweiler Mix Health Problems All breeds of dogs have some sort of health problems that are inherited through their genes and are specific to their breed. The same is true with a hybrid dog, but the health issues that would be more probable with both parents having the same health problems will be cut in half since your pooch is a mix of two different breeds. The Pug has beautiful large eyes that are very expressive and he also has issues with his eyes, including corneal ulcers and dry eye. His adorable and cute flat face can also cause breathing issues when he is outside and the weather is humid, hot, and sunny. The Rottweiler, being a large breed of dog, is susceptible to hip dysplasia, eye diseases, and heart disease. Occasionally, this breed will also have cancer and bloat from overeating. The good news is that when mixing a Pug with a Rottweiler, the chance of health issues is only half as much as if they were purebred. The longer face of the Rottweiler is prominent over the short and flat face of the Pug and the breathing issues will be diminished in a Pugweiler. Hip dysplasia will also be lessened if at all present because your adorable Pugweiler is much smaller than a Rottweiler. As a puppy, your Pugweiler needs to eat more than an adult dog to get all of the calories he needs while he is growing rapidly. It also helps their bones and organs develop as they should. Any dry puppy food that is labeled as complete and balanced food will work well for your four-legged family member. When your puppy gets older at around four months of age, you can switch to adult dog food and feed him twice a day. Usually, you should try to space his two meals out 12 hours apart if you can. This will ensure that the Rottweiler side that tends to overeat and bloat will not affect your Pugweiler, so he can live a long and happy life. Pug Rottweiler Mix Exercise Requirements Your designer dog will be the best of both worlds because of the mixture of his breeds. Pugs generally are quite low-key and are happy just to lie on the couch next to a family member all day. Rottweilers are pretty high-energy dogs that need a lot of mental stimulation to keep out of trouble. The mix of the two breeds forms a dog that is mellow and friendly and has a medium need for exercise on a daily basis. Inside play for an hour a day or a walk on a leash for about 30 minutes will satisfy the exercise requirements for your Pugweiler. The Pugweiler will now have a snout instead of a flat face, so the good news is that he can play for longer amounts of time even in humid and hot weather without breathing issues. Rottweilers love to play any type of game with their family members. Your Pugweiler will likely love to play fetch for hours on end and then take a long nap afterward. To keep your Pugweiler in great shape and avoid issues with separation anxiety, you can leave him some educational pet toys when you leave the house. Kong-type toys that can be stuffed with doggy peanut butter or small dog treats are a lot of fun and can keep your puppy entertained for several hours. You can also hide treats in different places in the house for your pet to find and eat while you are away at work, school, or running to the store and on errands. Pug Rottweiler Mix Training Your Pugweiler will be a very smart pup who will be willing to please you and learn commands and tricks very quickly. Teaching your puppy manners such as not jumping up on people and not roughhousing is important as he will retain this knowledge into adulthood. Both parent breeds can be a bit jumpy and bouncy when they are excited. You should also socialize your puppy as soon as you take him home. Introduce him to a wide variety of family members and friends and allow him to learn about the world through his nose as he explores places on his walks. You can take him to a dog park for exercise and playtime with other dogs of all ages, breeds, and sizes. These activities will produce a dog that is kind, gentle, and playful with everyone. Pug Rottweiler Mix and Families Your playful pooch is a great addition to any family. No matter if you are single, you have a partner, or children as well, your Pugweiler will be a great family member. He will be playful at times and a bit silly. He will be a great guard dog to protect your entire family, but will not be aggressive. If someone is at your door or in your yard, your Pugweiler will definitely let you know about it. He may seem a bit offish with new people, but will then be fine within a few minutes after he knows that they are okay to be nearby. This characteristic comes from Rottweilers who have been guard dogs for centuries. He is happy to give you company while you watch movies on the couch for long periods of time. Pug Rottweiler Mix and Other Pets Your puppy will get along very well with other pets that are either already in your household or new pets you introduce to your household after your puppy. Socialization goes farther than just with humans but also with other pets that your pup meets on walks and while running errands with you. If you show him that other pets are not threatening to him, he will get along easily with other dogs of all sizes and cats as well. You now know what to expect of your new four-legged family member and how to take care of him. A Pugweiler is a delightful mix of dogs that appears much like a Rottweiler, but in a compact and playful size that is perfect for apartment living with your family. It is also possible for the Pugweiler to have a fawn coloring similar to the Pug. They are intelligent, observant, and receptive to learning. The Pugweiler shows great affection to their family and loves being in their company, but may also display some aloofness to strangers like the Rottweiler. But, overall, they are friendly and comfortable around strangers. They are prone to separation anxiety, so they must not be left alone for long periods of time. Otherwise, unwanted behaviors may develop like chewing furniture or other items or pooping indiscriminately around the house. Chewing helps your pup alleviate some of that anxiety, stress, and tension. Do Pug and Rottweiler Mix make great family pets? The Pug Mix Rottweiler could easily get along with kids and other pets just as long as they are socialized and trained early. Pug Mix Rottweiler also has a moderate protective instinct. They are typically comfortable and calm to most people and other animals. Ideal living conditions for the Pugweiler Since the Pug cross Rottweiler is a small breed, they can easily adapt to any kind of living conditions, whether it be a large home or a small apartment. If the Pug cross Rottweiler has a short snout, it is not ideal for them to live in hot or humid places. The small air passages in their nostrils may not adequately cool the air or release heat when he is very warm. Pug Mix with Rottweiler training Pug x Rottweiler is an intelligent breed that can be trained easily. But, they need someone who is firm and consistent with the training. They are more receptive to alpha owners since they have a tendency to be stubborn. Puppy socialization can begin before they are two 2 months old or around the time they were given their primary vaccinations. During this time, they are more responsive to other people and animals, and getting them to familiarize with various smells will make them more at ease with different situations. At 4 months old, Pug x Rottweiler can be taught basic commands like sit, walk, or stay. Positive reinforcements such as by using treats and praises will motivate them to follow the commands. Training sessions should be kept short to prevent them from getting distracted and bored. Unlike the Rottweilers, which are highly active and needs to be exercised at least 2 hours a day, the Pug is only mildly active. A great way to exercise your Pug and Rottweiler Mix is to take them for short walks around the neighborhood every day for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. They tend to be energetic in short bursts and may tire easily if exercised strenuously. When taking your Pug and Rottweiler Mix out for a walk, be sure to use either a retractable dog leash or a rope dog leash to keep your K9 friends under your full control while still allowing them the space to explore their surrounding. If you have a busy schedule and have a backyard or patio, it is a good idea to let them roam freely in your yard. Simply walking, light running, chasing, or jumping is a great form of exercise for your little Pugweiler puppies. If you do let your Pug Rottweiler Mix puppies roam freely in your backyard, make sure your yard is fully fenced-in. Please note that some towns or counties may have zoning laws that prohibit putting up physical fences. A good alternative would be to install a wireless dog fence for your Rottweiler Pug puppies which will also keep them safe and contained within your backyard. Many K9 owners prefer the wireless dog fence because it is invisible, cost-efficient, and flexible to any and all types of terrains. So whether you live on a mountainous, hilly, or flat grassy terrains, the invisible doggy fence can still keep your pups safe no matter where you live. Many dog parents with an invisible doggy fence will also install an electronic dog door so their furry family members can head outside to the backyard and back into the house all on their own. This way, your pooch can enjoy the outdoors during the day while staying safe indoors at night. So whether you work from home or at the office, your pups can now get some fresh air without requiring you to open and close the door behind them. Rottweiler and Pug grooming and cleaning Pug Rottweiler Mix breeds are moderate shedders, so they need to be brushed twice every week to prevent hairs accumulating around the house. Most groomers would recommend using a medium slicker brush or a hand glove to control the shedding and remove any loose fur. However, during heavy shedding seasons when they blow out their coat, they need to be brushed every day with a FURminator de-shedding tool to remove tangles and matting. Brushing their coat not only removes loose hairs and debris, but also distributes natural oils to their coat for a shinier look. During the heavy shedding seasons, you can expect to have a moderate amount of fur on your sofa, carpet, rug, and floor. If you want to keep the amount of loose fur under control, we recommend investing in a powerful vacuum cleaner such as the Miele Vacuum Cleaner , which is quiet, durable, and can easily transition between carpet and hardwood floor. It requires a lot of space as it is highly energetic and loves playing. The Rottweiler Pug mix is an adorable new dog breed that is loved for its loyalty and lovingness. It is not as aggressive as a Rottweiler or any other guard dog but it does get aloof. Active and Energetic Pugs are highly energetic and so are Rottweilers. Having both these breeds in a single dog results in a high-energy dog that requires a lot of exercises. This is what makes it so playful and fun to be around.
