Adoption Process Mini Goldendoodle Goldendoodles are mixes between Golden Retrievers and Poodles that are very affectionate, playful, and all around a very friendly dog. They are known to be a great breed for novice owners, but loved by experienced pet owners as well, as they are fairly easy to groom and get along well with children and other dogs. Highly intelligent, they are usually easy to train and have a high energy level that requires regular exercise. They are typically larger dogs that do not adapt well to apartment style living but would instead prefer to have a larger area to play, indoors or outdoors. This breed does not shed much which can make them great dogs for owners with allergies, but this requires them to be groomed regularly. Goldendoodles have a high sensitivity level but are generally friendly around strangers. They are gentle dogs that are highly social and not great as guard dogs or watch dogs but have done well in roles such as therapy dogs or other service dogs. These dogs do best when they are around the people they love and should not be kept outside or in an outdoor kennel; they will experience separation anxiety when kept away from their owners for long periods of time. When left for a while, they do best to be kept in a kennel temporarily, and their destructive behaviors can be avoided by providing them with toys to chew on and by having a radio playing in the background. Miniature Goldendoodles are usually a mix between Miniature or Toy Poodles crossed with a Golden Retriever, which usually results in a dog that is 13 to 20 inches tall and weighs on average 15 to 35 pounds. These sizes, however, can vary greatly depending on the size of the parents for each puppy. They are generally healthy dogs but, like all breeds, can be prone to certain conditions. This breed has a desire to please and are known for developing affectionate bonds with their owners which makes them an excellent breed for owners excited to play with them. This information is only a generalization and we make no guarantees on any breed related to personality, appearance, or typical health characteristics. Life Span Did You Know? Although this breed is very popular, it is not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club. As long as they are well-socialized, Miniature Goldendoodles tend to make excellent family companions. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they will alert you of strangers at the door, they tend to warm up quickly as they are more interested in making friends and receiving attention. Mini Goldendoodles are highly adaptable dogs. Their smaller size makes them a great fit for apartment living or for bigger homes with yards where they can run. As long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention, they can adapt well. These little dogs tend to do well in just about any climate. However, like any dog, they are sensitive to heat. Due to their smaller size, you may need to gear up with some dog-friendly winter gear when temperatures start falling. Because this dog breed is loyal and people-oriented, they love to be in your company and do not like being left alone for long periods of time. This means they can be prone to developing separation anxiety if you do not work with them on it early on. Instead, make sure your new Mini Goldendoodle puppy has an active role in your life. If you do need to leave them alone for a bit, make sure they have some comforting toys or challenging puzzles to keep them from getting bored. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests and clearances that have been done. The Mini Goldendoodles is a highly intelligent dog that picks up on things quickly and is eager to please. They tend to be sensitive to tone of voice as well. As long as training is consistent and focused on positive praise and reward, a Mini Goldendoodle will strive to be obedient and impress you and tends to excel at almost any task. These traits make the Mini Goldendoodle one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Daily brushing is recommended to remove tangles and prevent mats. Bathing is occasional and can often be relegated to the dog groomer that is recommended you visit every weeks. The groomer can help handle some of this during visits, but you will still need to do some maintenance at home between visits. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Weekly ear checks with careful cleanings as needed help prevent ear infections. Daily brushing, plus cleanings at the vet as needed, is good dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Although the parents of this breed have a lot of energy, a Mini Goldendoodle tends to sit in a more moderate activity range. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are usually enough for them. But, they are also likely to match their energy level to yours, so be prepared for some bursts of energy as well as plenty of cuddling on the couch. Fully-grown Mini Goldendoodles usually stand inches tall at the shoulder. A Miniature Goldendoodle puppy can vary in size based on the generation of the dog. The result is generally a dog that will range from pounds. Looking at the size of the parents for an F1 or F1-B puppy can be a good indication of what size to expect in a fully-grown Miniature Goldendoodle. Mini Goldendoodles generally live for years on average. Featured Mini Goldendoodle Article. Look no further than Goldendoodle for sale! Ensure Appropriate Health Checks One of the main responsibilities of breeders is to ensure they are using disease-free parent dogs for the continued health of the Bernedoodle line. We fell in love with Doodles when our son raised a puppy to be a future service dog and we wanted to do more. You can read more about how we began this journey by reading Our Story below. We understand how difficult it can be to identify reputable breeders from the puppy mills and online brokers, so we have partnered with TellTail. Feel free to click the TellTail badge to verify our ID and confirm our identity. We are also happy to connect by phone so you can feel comfortable in who you are choosing to raise your future family. Our Story My husband and I have been married 30 years and have two sons. Over a dozen years ago, we fell in love with Doodles when our youngest son raised a Doodle puppy to be a future service dog as part of his Eagle Scout Project. In the blink of an eye, we welcomed Luke, a shaggy doodle puppy into our home and hearts and my son spent a year taking this sweet boy with us everywhere. This was our introduction to Doodles and we were smitten - low shedding, low allergen, affectionate and Muppet cute. We set about learning all we could about responsible breeding practices, canine health and longevity, canine genetics, inheritable diseases and their prevention and very importantly the best methods of puppy raising to shape future temperament. During our deep dive into all things Doodle, we considered many breeds, including Goldendoodles and Labradoodles. We wanted a medium size since not all veterans had large homes and yards. We prioritized health, trainability, intelligence and friendliness. And of course we needed to ensure we had the low allergen, low shedding qualities that would make them easy to live with and take into restaurants and retail establishments. We loved the Goldendoodle puppy we raised, but his energy level was high and Goldens and Labs are know for maturing slowly, essentially staying a puppy until they are a year or two years old. It was essential to us to include a working breed that comes into their brains quickly as this would be an important trait for a service dog. And knowing what traits were important for a service dog, meant they would then also be excellent for therapy work and as family companions. So we began our program with Australian Mountain Doodles at the time, we called them Aussie Bernedoodles , as well as Bernedoodles and Aussiedoodles. To my knowledge, we were the first to do the Aussie Bernedoodle cross which combines the good natured, calm and strong attributes of the Bernese Mountain Dog, the smart, work-oriented Australian Shepherd and of course the versatile, intelligent, low shedding, low allergen Poodle. We consider ourselves fortunate to have been raising these amazing Doodles in Southern California since .In , we made the decision with extended family to re-locate my parents and ourselves in order to be more present in their later years. So we rounded up the Doodles and my coffee pot okay there was a lot more involved but those were essential and made the transition to the Oregon Coast where we continue to raise healthy, affectionate, family-friendly, hypo-allergenic Bernedoodles and Australian Mountain Doodles. This is a family affair and we are devoted to our Doodles full time. This means no vacations, no out of town weddings, no being away for more than a few hours and every day begins and ends with their needs being put first. It takes a huge commitment and a lot of passion to devote ourselves so entirely to placing healthy, happy puppies with new families. We are always evaluating, refining and striving to improve our program. We try to do what is best for our dogs and future puppy owners while trying to maintain a balance with our family. Below are some photos from a trip to Knotts Berry Farm with the Doodle that started it all. We would like to see every family pet come from a responsible source. If you truly love dogs and want the best for all canines, you should also support the idea of responsible breeding. If the only dogs you deem acceptable are the messes made by irresponsible breeding or negligence, purchased through the proxy of rescue, and you demonize the practice of breeding or the expansion of healthier hybrids, then what you are saying is that the only dogs that should have a place in this world are those bred irresponsibly. Better breeding goes hand in hand with responsible rescue. The critical window to set puppies up for good adult behavior is when they are weeks of age with being the most critical. Our puppies are raised in a loving environment and from healthy, happy parents who were genetically tested to be free of common issues so they can live long, happy lives with their people. We take great care, raising each puppy to ensure they are well-rounded and prepared for their new life with you. When making decisions about our breeding programs, we prioritize the physical and emotional health, and well-being of our breeding dogs above all else. Healthy, happy moms make for healthy, happy puppies. We ensure the moms feel loved and cared for so that they in turn are excellent tenders of their puppies. The puppies are held everyday and weight checks are done regularly to ensure they are gaining weight and thriving. Every puppy in addition to mom is loved on and nurtured every day. We follow and utilize three methods of early neurological stimulation and handling for our puppies, timed to coincide with specific periods in the puppies life where they are most receptive to it. This method utilizes tactile and thermal stimulation and 3 positioning exercises, done once daily when the puppies are days old. When puppies receive consistent, non-traumatic handling, they become more outgoing and friendly and show less inclination to be fearful when they are older. This encourages the puppies development into an emotionally balanced mature dog and ultimately a better family companion for you. Puppy Culture is a comprehensive guide as to what can be done with and for puppies at each point in their development to ensure the best possible outcome for the puppy. It's a "how to" on raising confident, happy puppies, using early neurological stimulation, enrichment and resiliency exercises to encourage the best out of each puppy at each stage of its development. Puppy Culture utilizes clicker training however we believe the doodle breeds we are raising are easily motivated with treat training and rely on that method instead. So many breeders underestimate the role a good gut biome plays in the health of their breeding dogs. What mom is eating while pregnant and lactating, passes to the puppies and affects their health as well. This is huge! The fact that breeders have the ability to influence the health of their puppies into adulthood for their future families is a game changer. We feed a nutrient-dense, biologically appropriate food to our dams and sires. We include prebiotics, probiotics, digestive enzymes, goats milk, fresh foods and veggies and no inflammatory grains or excess carbohydrates. We raise chickens and ducks using fermented organic feed, sprouted barley and fresh scraps from our garden so our canines have the very best natural eggs for their meals. We rotate proteins and products, including raw, lightly cooked, freeze-dried, air-dried and a small amount of Farmina kibble in different varieties. All of this is done to support their gut, skin and coat health. We believe in the most natural approach possible. We use no pesticides around our home, We exercise great caution to only use necessary deworming protocols and minimize toxic chemicals on and around our dogs. Protecting their immune system improves gut health and consequently the health of their future puppies. We ensure our adults and puppies lead happy lives. Some of our pack live with different family members so we still have great influence on their condition, feeding and vet care. I groom them at my home so they regularly visit and hang out. A few live in local guardian homes that we trust. They whelp and raise their puppies in our home. They love and trust us and are comfortable going through such a momentous and emotional time as childbirth with us close by. I cannot emphasize enough how stress on mom channels as stress in the puppies and can influence their future personalities. Happy moms make happy puppies. We are a boutique breeder of well-loved, home-raised, and health-tested Bernedoodles in Southern California. We have approximately four litters per year so that our dogs and their puppies will have as much personal attention from us as possible, including early neurological stimulation and early socialization through many Puppy Culture protocols. Our puppies are raised in our home and around our three children who help provide plenty of noise and cuddles. Worth the Wait While we usually have a month waiting list, we do sometimes have surprise openings, and I promise we are worth the wait! Most stop at genetic testing. But we also do CBC blood chem and protein-creatinine ratio to make sure our dogs have excellent kidney and liver function before breeding. We know that many people are excited about the bernedoodle breed; however, it is very important to us that the interest in our pups runs deeper than a fad. Giving Back Ten percent of all our proceeds go to wonderful non-profit organizations such as Compassion International, an amazing humanitarian aid ministry that helps children in need all over the world; the International Justice Mission, which fights human trafficking here in the US and abroad, rescuing and restoring victims of trafficking and oppression; and the Dream Center Los Angeles, which is a resource center that provides support to those affected by homelessness, hunger, and addiction. It is a JOY to support these organizations! They are not for breeding. We have a strict spay and neuter contract with all our families. Though I grew up in a suburb of San Diego, I was a farm girl at heart, taking care of my own little garden as well as many animals over the years, i. I would find baby doves and hummingbirds that had fallen from their nests and try to nurse them back to health. I must have missed my calling in veterinary medicine and opted for a degree in journalism instead. When I first discovered the Bernedoodle, I absolutely fell in love. Put those two breeds together and get the best of both worlds? Yes please! I also loved that the gorgeous tri-color markings of the Bernese Mountain Dog sometimes could be maintained while creating a non-shedding, hypoallergenic coat especially for people like my middle daughter who suffers from allergies to dogs with fur and creating a new breed with the potential to live longer than the Bernese Mountain Dog, which often has a shorter life span comparatively. My husband, our three children, and even my in-laws all help contribute to the well-being of our dogs. We hope you enjoy looking through our gallery and that we might be able to assist you in finding your future fur baby! Here he comes, leaping across the mountains, bounding over hills. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Corporal Duncan brought him back to the United States and Rin-Tin-Tin became one of the most famous dog actors in history. Featured German Shepherd Article. Before buying a German Shepherd Mix puppy and bringing them home, be sure to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed. If the puppies are being family-raised around children, you should be able to get an idea of how they will do in a family setting that includes children. The German Shepherd is a moderately adaptable working dog that was bred to guard, work, and herd. They do not tend to do well in apartments and are best-suited for houses with yards. GSDs prefer to be with their families and do not like to be alone. They also tend to prefer cooler climates as they are sensitive to heat. With a German Shepherd Mix, you could get a moderately adaptable dog that is just like a purebred German Shepherd. You could also end up with a dog that is more like the other parent breed. Talking with the breeder about the other parent breed can give you a good idea of what to expect. German Shepherds can be prone to elbow and hip dysplasia. You will need to ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross to get an idea of any other health concerns to be aware of in your German Shepherd Mix. Health screenings, clearances, and the genetic history of the parents can help allay concerns about potential health conditions. On the German Shepherd side, training and obedience classes are highly recommended for novice dog owners. Although GSDs are highly intelligent, pick up on things quickly, and train fairly easily, they can be stubborn with an independent streak. Regardless of the other parent breed in the cross, you should be prepared to enroll in obedience and training classes with your German Shepherd Mix. The experience will be beneficial to both you and your puppy and will also offer some opportunities for socialization. You will still want to ask the breeder about the other parent breed in the cross to get an understanding of what to expect during the training process. Professional grooming a few times a year and the occasional bath is also recommended. Regardless of the coat type, your German Shepherd Mix will need to have their nails trimmed monthly and their teeth brushed regularly. Not every dog will allow you to do this, so try to get a tooth brushing session in at least a few times a week to reduce tartar buildup. This will help prevent dental problems like tooth decay and gum disease. Plus, it will help cut down on bad breath! German Shepherds tend to have a high activity level. They were bred to run, herd, guard, and protect, so they are used to working and having a job to do. They are definitely not a lazy dog breed! Be sure to talk to the breeder about the other parent breed in the mix. You will still want to go in prepared for a high energy dog with the understanding that your German Shepherd Mix puppy may have an activity level closer to the other breed in the cross. If both are high energy dogs breeds, expect to end up with a high energy dog. A German Shepherd is a large dog breed that generally weighs between 55 and 90 pounds. They also usually stand between 22 and 26 inches tall at the shoulders. The other dog breed in the cross could result in a smaller or larger German Shepherd Mix. A German Shepherd generally lives for years. You should be able to expect a similar range in your German Shepherd Mix, but the other dog breed in the cross could affect this range. If you're a dog lover, selling puppies and matching them with great homes is a tremendously rewarding experience. From advertising your sale to considering prospective buyers, you might have noticed that there's a lot that goes into the process. Thankfully, it's pretty simple once you break it down. Read on to learn everything you need to know about selling puppies responsibly. All rights reserved. This image may not be used by other entities without the express written consent of wikiHow, Inc. To figure out a baseline starting price, research the market price of your puppies' breed online. Then, factor in the cost of food and veterinary care your puppies will have received by the time they are sold, including check-ups and vaccinations. If your dog is a mixed-breed dog, there may not be a standard baseline price depending on the mix of breeds. In that case, use the vet and food costs. If your dogs are purebred, visit the American Kennel Club dog breed web page to determine if your puppies meet the breed standard. Dogs that do are considered show quality and may be worth a higher price. Ask friends, family members, and coworkers if they know anyone who might be interested in buying a puppy. Though posting on social media to reach your network may sound like a good idea, keep in mind that Facebook doesn't allow selling dogs through a personal account. Ask your veterinarian if you can post a flyer in their lobby. You might also visit local pet shops in your area to ask if you can advertise your litter there, too. To make your flyer complete, include a photo of your puppies, the asking price, and reliable contact information. You want your puppies to look extra cute and irresistible to prospective buyers! You might also include info on the breed, coat, and sex of your puppies. If you're a part of any kennel clubs like the American Kennel Club or the United Kennel Club , ask your fellow club members if they know of any prospective buyers. To get in touch, try attending dog shows and kennel club events. The AKC advocates for the responsible ownership of dogs and promotes purebred dog events, such as the Westminster Dog Show. Making a website can be a surprisingly easy and affordable way to reach potential customers. If you plan on selling another litter in the future or are a registered breeder, try out this option to help make a name for your breeding program. Include good-quality photos of your puppies, an "About Me" page to let prospective buyers know more about you, and a "Contact" page with your contact info. These platforms offer free options and can make formatting a lot easier. If you make flyers to post in your area, include your website as a part of your contact information. This can draw traffic to your site and get the word out about your puppies! If your dog is purebred, look into whether there is a magazine dedicated to its breed online. Publications like Just Labs and the Retriever Journal will sometimes run breeding announcements for those specific types of dogs in the magazines. To learn more, visit the magazines' websites and click their advertising or contact page. Then, reach out and ask about their ad requirements. These websites allow you to list an ad for your puppies on their site. Though convenient, these sites do come with risks. If an interested buyer is far away, you won't be able to meet in person, which is a big part of finding good homes for your litter. Some of the top puppy-selling websites include Puppies. Though it's free to list an ad on these sites, they do charge a fee for getting in touch with buyers. You can also sell puppies on classified ad websites including Hoobly. Keep in mind that you aren't permitted to sell animals on Craigslist. Once interested customers contact you, ask them about their household, living situation, and day-to-day activities. A larger breed may not be a good fit for someone who lives in a studio apartment and works all day, for example. To find out this information, you can either draft an application for them to fill out and send back to you or interview them over the phone. Things you might ask include: [10] X Research source Have you ever had a dog before? Do you have any other pets? Do you have a backyard? How many hours a day will you spend away from home? Will you be able to cover vet costs and medical care? Do you have young children in your family? Will you be able to devote time to leash training, potty training, and other necessities for a puppy? Are you aware of this specific breed's needs? If any interested households seem like a good fit, pick a time to meet in person and invite the whole household. Go to source It's a good sign if potential buyers seem genuinely interested in learning more about the puppy's needs. If they ask questions and treat the puppies with care and respect, they're likely a great match. This allows potential owners to place a hold on a particular pup. If they do, charge them a refundable or non-refundable deposit to place the hold. While you wait for the puppies to go to their forever homes, take them to the vet for check-ups and any required vaccinations. Then, keep a copy of all of their medical documents to give to the new owners. To keep your puppies healthy and comfortable, clean their living environment regularly. Be sure to sanitize their living quarters, wash blankets and bedding, and clean up any fecal matter or urine. Your puppies' mother should be responsible for cleaning her pups when they are young. If you notice the puppies are dirty or the mother is not able to bathe her pups, wipe the puppies down with a warm washcloth. Since it can be dangerous to submerge small puppies in water, many owners wait several weeks to months before bathing puppies for the first time. Getting plenty of social interaction can help your puppies transition well into their new homes and be more confident in new environments. Once your vet allows it usually once your puppies have received their shots , give them the opportunity to play with adults and children and socialize with other dogs as often as possible. Part of socializing your puppies is exposing them to new sights and sounds. Try bringing them outside when neighbors walk by and playing music in their living environment. Visiting your home to pick up the puppy ensures that the puppies will have a safe and smooth transition. If the owners live farther away, consider meeting them at a drop-off point in between the two locations. To be safe, ensure that the owners pay you using your preferred payment method before parting with your puppy. Go to source You might consider asking the new owners to pay you on a secure online platform like PayPal. Alternatively, you can also request that they pay you using a debit or credit card. Do your absolute best to avoid shipping. Though it's possible to ship a dog safely, it can still be stressful and sometimes traumatizing for a young puppy. These missing costs and services will be your responsibility, making the total cost ultimately the same. Not to mention the added stress on you these extra expenses and issues create! Adopting vs. Please note that depending on the shelter, you may have to pay additional costs for your Golden certain shots and procedures. Depending on if the golden retriever is a boy or a girl may affect the price as well. Some male vs female golden retriever differences may make you prefer one over the other. This will ultimately save you time and money on your golden retriever price because breeders often pay lower veterinary rates than individuals do. Distemper, for example, is a highly contagious disease that attacks the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous systems of dogs. Unfortunately, there is no cure — just a lot of expenses and stress which really adds to the overall cost of your Golden Retriever puppy. It is wise to ask your vet for guidance on this decision. Talk with your vet about the procedure, when you should get it done, and how much it might cost. Dental Care for Your Golden Retriever Golden Retrievers, like many dogs, can be prone to dental issues such as plaque buildup, gum disease, and tooth decay. These cleanings typically involve scaling, polishing, and potentially extractions if necessary. Some insurance providers offer optional dental coverage as an add-on or as part of more comprehensive plans. If dental coverage is included in the policy, it typically covers a portion of the costs associated with dental cleanings, extractions, and other necessary dental treatments. This typically includes services such as bathing, brushing, trimming, nail clipping, ear cleaning, and sometimes additional services like de-shedding or dematting. Some groomers may offer package deals or discounts for regular appointments or bundled services. This monthly expense may seem like an additional cost, but it can be a worthwhile investment when considering the potential savings on veterinary bills for treatments, surgeries, and medications. By having pet insurance in place, you can ensure that your Golden Retriever receives the necessary care without straining your finances in the event of unexpected health issues. Puppy Training and Socialization Classes Attending puppy training and socialization classes is highly recommended for the comprehensive development of your Golden puppy. These classes provide structured learning environments, social interaction, and essential obedience training. By enrolling your Golden Retriever puppy in these classes, you ensure they receive the necessary foundation for good behavior, social skills, and overall well-being. The cost for food will depend on the size, age, and activity level of your companion. Fortunately, the cheaper brands of dog food can be just as good as the more premium brands as long as they meet the standards of AAFCO and are made with minimal processing. When making your decision, make sure to avoid artificial ingredients and preservatives where you can, since they could cause health problems for your dog.

While curly-haired doodles are amongst the most popular, these dogs can also have wavy or straight locks. Each doodle is part poodle and part Labrador retriever. The F1 generation labradoodle consists of 50 percent poodle and 50 percent Labrador retriever—one parent of each breed. These dogs are typically non-shedding and may have wavy to loose curls. The F1B generation labradoodle consists of 75 percent poodle and 25 percent Labrador retriever—one poodle parent and one F1 parent. F1B doodles have a sheepdog-like appearance with wavy to curly hair with wool or fleece texture. Both types of labradoodles are recommended for allergy sufferers. Wool Coat Similar to the wool of a lamb, labradoodles may sport these tight, dense curls. A wool coat requires little maintenance if kept short, but does carry the risk of matting. Doodles with wool coats are a smart option for pet owners with severe allergies or asthma. Doodles with hair coats have more Labrador-like features and a coat that feels similar to human hair. Like humans, labradoodles with a hair coat do shed. Hair coats require little maintenance and can get by with one or two haircuts a year. Since labradoodles shed to varying degrees, they are not always suitable for allergy sufferers or pet owners looking for a non-shedding pooch. Fleece Coat Fleece coats are the type most often associated with the loving labradoodle. The fleece coat can be straight to curly, light and silky-soft to the touch. Labradoodles with a fleece coat generally require a lot of maintenance to prevent matting, especially between 9 and 14 months of age when the adult coat grows in. While your fleecy labradoodle may shed, they are normally accepted by allergy sufferers. More Articles. Labradoodles can come in a wide variety of coat colors and textures each adorable and unique in their own way. One of these varieties is the straight hair Labradoodle. A Labradoodle with straight hair, also known as a flat coat Labradoodle, is the subject of much confusion and many misconceptions. Can Labradoodles Have Straight Hair? Since the Labradoodle is a mixed breed between the Labrador Retriever and the Poodle, some puppies will naturally take on more traits from each of their parent breeds. Some will have straight, flat coats like the Lab, some will have curly coats like the Poodle, and some will have wavy coats that fall somewhere in between. Russ is a flat coat black Labradoodle. Photo courtesy of adventurussdoodle on Instagram. Are Labradoodles Always Curly? In fact, it can come in a variety of textures ranging from straight, to wavy, to curly. Many breeders strive for Labradoodle puppies that have curly hair, as many prospective owners prefer them due to their likelihood of being non-shedding and allergy-friendly. This is why you may notice more curly Labradoodles rather than straight haired ones. Photo courtesy of nednoodlethelabradoodle on Instagram. As a Labrador Retriever and Poodle cross , Labradoodles inherit traits from both of their parent breeds. Coat texture is just one of the many traits that can differ not only from litter to litter but from puppy to puppy. Since this gene is inherited from the Poodle side, a Labradoodle puppy with Cu Locus will have a coat that is more wavy or curly in texture. Reputable breeders perform genetic testing on the parents in an attempt to produce healthier and more desirable puppies. More often than not, breeders strive for curly coated Labradoodle puppies since they are more likely to be low-shedding and allergy-friendly than flat coated puppies. This is why breeders will sometimes refer to straight coat Labradoodles as having improper coats. Genetics are tricky to predict and no breeder can guarantee a certain coat type. However, which generation your Labradoodle is will drastically influence the odds of them having a flat coat. You can also look for a breeder that backcrosses Labradoodles to Labrador Retrievers. However, those parings are extremely rare. Keep in mind that many prospective owners are looking exclusively for curly haired Labradoodles. Are Straight Hair Labradoodles Hypoallergenic? While no Labradoodles can be considered completely hypoallergenic, straight haired Labradoodles have a greater risk of triggering allergy reactions than curly haired Labradoodles. On average, a Labradoodle with a flat coat will still be more allergy-friendly than a purebred Labrador Retriever. Straight Hair Labradoodle Shedding Straight hair Labradoodles will likely shed a moderate amount, but usually not as much as a purebred Lab. After a week, the papers came through, and it turns out we adopted a Labradoodle! We are happy to have an Oodle dog, but it was a surprise! My labradoodle puppy has straight hair?! I googled and came across your video about Goldendoodle coats and wondered if it is the same situation for Labradoodles — and should we expect the dog to shed? We were prepared for a shedding Labrador, so we are not too fussed, just curious. PS our dog sleeps at the foot of our bed too. Here are the expanded answers to your straight hair Labradoodle puppy question! And interesting to know that your dog sleeps at the foot of the bed Labradoodle Puppies Can Have Three types of Coats Like other Poodle mix breeds, Labradoodle puppies will have one of three types of coats. Curly Wavy Straight A curly coat is the most Poodle like, and a straight coat is the most similar to the coat of the Labrador. A curly coat Labradoodle will likely not shed at all and are the best suited for a household that needs a zero shed dog. There is no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic dog, but a curly coat Labradoodle is often very close. Many allergies come from dander proteins found in dog saliva not just in the coat. We need to remember that there is no guarantee that any dog will ultimately be allergy-friendly. A Labradoodles puppy coat can be straight without any curl at all. Often these dogs will look precisely like a Labrador coat and color. You will see some of the lithe skinny and thinner Poodle skulls and body features. The coat of a Labradoodle does change over time. There is a transition from a Labradoodle puppy coat to the adult coat. This is similar to the Goldendoodle and other Poodle mix breeds. Although there is a coat change, the actual type of coat will not change. A Labradoodle with a curly or straight coat will not turn into another coat type. So if you have a Labradoodle puppy with a straight coat, in general, the type will not change to a noticeable extent. If the puppy is non-shedding, the older dog will likely be non-shedding too. The same goes for a shedding straight coat Labradoodle puppy — do not hold out for a coat change as it is unlikely to come. The type of coat change is gradual. The puppy coat transition for most Labradoodles will not be noticed by the owners. It typically occurs around months of age. Spend a little extra time brushing out the coat at this time. A slicker brush and a stainless steel comb are the best ways to easily brush a Labradoodle like a professional. Which generation of Labradoodle is a straight coat? When a Labradoodle presents with a straight coat, it resembles the Labrador parent. The straight coat genetics are all from a Labrador Retriever. This is why the generation of Labradoodle most likely to have a straight coat is the F1 Labradoodle. An F1 Labradoodle is the first generation. This means one parent was a Poodle, and the other was a Labrador Retriever. A strict F2 generation Labradoodle can also have genetics. Still, you will typically see an increase in Poodle genetics by F1b integration into the breeding. F1 Labradoodles can have any type of coat from curly and wavy right through to pure straight coat. When people think of Labradoodles, they are often thinking of an F1b or F2 generation Labradoodle. It is, therefore, far more likely that an F1b Labradoodle is a wavy or curly coat. It is relatively uncommon for an F1b Labradoodle to have a shedding straight coat! Do Straight Coat Labradoodles Shed? A straight coat Labradoodle will likely shed. They might shed less than a full blood Labrador. Still, compared with other generations of Labradoodle, there will be more hair shedding. Some owners say that they still find even shedding straight hair Labradoodle to be less allergy-inducing than a typical Labrador. Because straight-haired Labradoodles are genetically prone to shedding — it would be incredibly lucky and rare to find a straight hair Labradoodle that did not shed. A super cute miniature Labradoodle named Max Do straight coat Labradoodles have a double coat? Straight coat Labradoodles have individual hairs that extend from the external right through to the skin. Labradoodles, in general — do not have a double coat. A straight coat Labradoodle will have a single coat as an adult. Although you might see a seasonal or winter coat change for a straight coat Labradoodle, it is unlikely to be very significant. Most owners who notice a difference just see a small increase in the volume of hair released when they groom their Labradoodle. A slicker brush and steel comb is the simple way to groom any Labradoodle, from curly coat right thought eh straight coat. Learn the Labradoodle ! Benefits of Straight Coat Labradoodle? There is one benefit of a straight coat Labradoodle that can be very important to some owners. Compared with other Labradoodles, the straight coat Labradoodle is very low maintenance. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. Usually, when we think of a Labradoodle, we think of a dog with the friendly temperament and work ethic of a Labrador retriever with the low-shedding curly coat of a poodle. However, it is not always possible to predict what characteristics a hybrid dog will inherit from their two parent breeds. First generation Labradoodles are just as likely to have the coat of a Lab as a Poodle. A straight hair Labradoodle is a mixed Lab-poodle dog that has inherited the straight coat of their Lab parent. They are also called a flat coat Labradoodle. This means they have a high-shedding coat rather than the hypoallergenic coat of Labradoodles with curly hair. But aside from their coat, they have the same overall personality and temperament profile as other Labradoodles. Read on for our complete profile and what exactly to expect from a straight hair Labradoodle. The result is a breed with a soft mouth and strong work ethic that loves the water. Meanwhile, the poodle is an older dog breed that originates from either France or Germany their exact origin is in dispute. The breed seems to have been around from the 15th and 16th centuries and was a popular lap dog pet by the 18th century. The poodle is highly intelligent and sensitive, making it an excellent companion. The Labradoodle was created in the s by bringing the two dogs together to try and reduce the shedding of Labradors while maintaining their characteristic intelligence and friendly personality. They became popular in the late s when breeder Wally Conron introduced them to the Royal Guide Dog Association of Australia as a new working dog. Labradoodle Breeding Genetics There are a variety of different classes within a mixed breed dog family. The first is a F1 mix, which is a mix of the two parent breeds. In this case, it means a Labrador retriever parent and a poodle parent, though they could be standard or smaller in size. An F2 Labradoodle comes from breeding two F1 Labradoodles. As you head further down the breeding line, you are less likely to encounter Labradoodles with straight coats because this is one of the traits breeders usually control for. One of the purposes of mixing Labs and poodles was to try and control the high-shedding coats of Labradors, so breeders will usually favor the low-shedding poodle coat. Size And Weight The size and weight of a Labradoodle depends principally on whether the poodle parentage is that of a standard poodle, or of one of the smaller types of poodle. Labradors will measure between .Poodles come in standard, medium, miniature, and toy sizes. Standard poodles are quite large. They measure 18 to 24 inches in height and weigh 44 to 70 pounds. Mixing a Lab with a standard poodle will get you a standard Labradoodle, which measures 21 to 24 inches and can weigh 50 to 70 pounds. Medium poodles measure 14 to 18 inches tall and weigh 33 to 42 pounds. Miniature poodles are 11 to 14 inches tall and weigh 26 to 31 pounds. Toy poodles are 9. Introducing one of these poodles into the Labradoodle mix results in smaller dogs. The smaller poodle will always be the mother to ensure a safe birth. Read our full guide to the different sizes of Labradoodles here. Coat And Color In theory, a Labradoodle can inherit the tightly curled and low-shedding coat of their poodle parent or the straight double coat of their high-shedding Labrador parent. Most of the Labradoodles you come across will have the poodle coat because this is a trait breeders specifically control for. But in some rare cases, the coat may show up as an anomaly further down the line, or a breeder may favor this characteristic. Labradoodles with straight hair will more or less look like they have a medium-length scruffy coat, which makes them look a little like a teddy bear. What exactly the coat will look like can vary. It may look a consistent length over their face and body, or it may sprout in longer tufts in some areas or feather along the tail, legs, and face. The coat might be slick and glossy or have a more matte and flat finish to their coat. It is worth noting that while their coat is straight, they will probably not have the double coat of a Labrador. This means less seasonal change and less shedding than a Labrador. But straight hair Labradoodles will still shed a lot and need to be brushed regularly to remove excess hair and stop them from leaving it everywhere they go! But even with regular brushing, dog hair will be a part of life. On the positive side, they do not need to be taken for a professional cut as often as their curly-haired cousins. Additionally, they can be a variety of different colors. While black, chocolate, and yellow are most common, they might also be cafe, parchment, apricot, red, silver, chalk, or blue. Intelligence Labradoodles are known for their intelligence, since both Labrador retrievers and poodles are considered among the most intelligent dog breeds. Labradors are also eager to please and thrive when they have work to do and receive reward. This makes them highly trainable. Poodles can be a little more independent in their thinking and therefore less cooperative, but they are still sensitive to humans. But despite this, Labradoodles tend to be about as easy to train and control as Labradors. This makes Labradoodles great working dogs for disability assistance and search and rescue. It also means they are excellent and obedient pets, even for first-time owners. Temperament Both Labradors and poodles have a friendly temperament and never tend to be aggressive. They bond quickly with their people. For poodles, this bond can be quite exclusive, and they may be a little bit wary of strangers. Labs, on the other hand, tend to like everyone. This means Labs and their Labradoodle offspring make terrible guard dogs, even if they inherit a little poodle wariness. This means if a Labradoodle is barking, it is usually for a good reason, and you should pay attention. Labradoodles are friendly with children, and they also get on well with other animals. They are more likely to form a close bond with the house cat than chase them around the yard. Socializing your Labradoodle from a young age can foster this behavior. Just like their parent breeds, Labradoodles bond with their humans intensely. They can develop destructive behaviors if left at home for eight hours a day while the rest of the family is at school or at work. They do better in homes where there is usually someone around or if they can go to work with someone. So, while they benefit from outdoor space, they will need to be inside the house. This is something to bear in mind with a straight-hair Labradoodle, since they will shed. Diet And Exercise Labradoodles are high-energy dogs that need lots of exercise, usually a minimum of 60 minutes a day. Also, this should involve running, jumping, pulling, and searching, and not just a casual walk. Labradoodles are adventurous and will enjoy accompanying the family of hikes and day trips. They also love to swim! Their straight coats are actually made to repel water. This means it is easy for them to overeat and put on excess weight. This is not good for their heart and other organs and can also put unnecessary strain on their joints, leading to mobility issues. Remember that all the treats you give them during training or just because you love them also contain calories! Want to know more? A flat coat Labradoodle is a Lab-poodle mixed breed dog that has inherited the straight hair coat of their Labrador parent rather than the curly coat of their poodle parent. Is an F1 or an F2 Labradoodle better? F1 Labradoodles often tend to be healthier than F2 variations of the dog. But breeders are better able to control for certain characteristics with F2 dogs, so their appearance and temperament can be more predictable. Some may have a scruffy look where tufts of hair sprout out of their body, while also having a short wavy or curly fur undercoat covering their body. Other straight hairs are completely covered in medium-long fur, that grows consistently all over their face and body. Their coats can range from straight to wavy hair, similar to a labrador. They can also be slick and glossy, or flat and matte, with feathering along the tails, and around the legs and face. Typically a straight coat will vary in length and thickness, with no two dogs from the same litter being guaranteed to have the same type of fur growth. As puppies, straight hair coats will not begin to grow out their hair until they are eight weeks old. By the time they are 12 weeks old, it will be clear as to what sort of coat the puppies will have. No, not all labradoodles have curly fur. They have both fur and hair actually. You may have noticed that I have been freely switching between the two during my explanations. This is because hair and fur are the same thing. Can Straight Hair Coats be Shaved? Typically the answer will be no. If you live in a hot country, then during the summer times, it might be worth considering to give them a trim. Not a shave! Just a light trim to help stop their bodies from over heating. The fur coat, actually protects their skin from sun burn, and helps to prevent it from drying out, which can cause skin conditions. Clean up the hair around the dogs face, in particular around the eyes, if it has bushy eyebrows, and around the muzzle. It is best to look at reducing the length of the fur in areas that can could cause health problems or discomfort, if the fur was to become clumped up and mattered. How to Best Control Shedding? Straight haired labradoodles shed a lot more than any other labradoodles. As tempting as it may be to shave your furry companion to help counter shedding. It nonetheless remains inadvisable and should be avoided. It can be lessened however. Just as we humans shed hair, so will a healthy and happy dog. Throughout the year, your pooch will continue to shed hair, more so as the weather warms up and their winter coat falls out. To counter this, get in the habit of giving your dog regular grooming. A little bit of brushing can go a long way. It removes loose hair, and helps to re-affirm the bond between you and your dog, as they enjoy the attention and can even find the grooming to be relaxing. Bathing your dog should be kept to a minimum as the shampoos and warm water can lead to dry skin and other skin conditions. Instead take your dog for swims or use lukewarm water to rinse off their coats. The most important thing to remember is to keep your dog in a comfortable environment, as stress can cause a dog to shed even more. A good diet helps to promote stronger hair follicles and a shinny coat, that can help reduce shedding. Some owners later discover that they are allergic to straight haired labradoodles. While it may be tempting to shave off their fur, in an attempt to eliminate the allergic reactions. This should never be done! Allergies are not triggered by dog fur. They are caused by pet dander — skin particles that are shed by the dog all year long. By shaving the fur off, the owner is actually making things worse for themselves. It drys the skin out, removing moisture and causes rashes to develop. As a result more skin is shed, exposing the pet owner to more dander. As more skin conditions develop or worsen, the dog will start scratching releasing even more dander into the air. How Often Should a Dog be Bathed? Bathing your dog can be effected by many different factors and can be very situational. You may need to bath them more frequently for medical reasons, or because of what they have decided to roll in. Generally speaking, bathing your labradoodle should be more infrequent. Over bathing your dog can strip its fur of natural oils that help to protect their skin and strengthen their hair. Ideally, you should limit proper bathes to when they start to smell a little, or if you need to remove matter from their fur. If they are just dirty with dust and mud, use lukewarm water or a running hose to wash away the dirt. Alternatively encourage them to swim in a body of water such as a river or at the beach while under your supervision. As a precautionary measure you can get a life jacket for your labradoodle. When you do need to give them a proper bath, use a mild oatmeal or coconut based dog shampoo. It will strip away some of the oils from their coat, but these types of shampoos will help to keep the skin moisturized. Over bathing can lead to skin irritations that can be itchy and uncomfortable. Dogs do not need to have baths as much as humans need to. How to Watch Out for Skin Conditions If your Labradoodle has any skin conditions, this could cause them to shed more fur, or even release more dander into the air. They may show signs of a skin condition by excessive scratching or nipping and licking at the same area. Remember mites and parasites can cause just as much damage to the skin as over-bathing. If you are wondering if the straight hair coats are the sort of labradoodles for you, please consider the following points: Their coats require the lowest level of maintenance. They do shed a lot more then other coats. They look more like labradors, than poodles. They may not be suitable for people with dog allergies. No two straight hairs will have the same coat. Labradoodle puppy coats come in a range of colors and textures, so labradoodle owners are spoiled for choice when choosing their fur baby. Read on to discover more about Labradoodles and labradoodle coat types. What Are Hypoallergenic Dog Coats? Hypoallergenic dogs have less of a thick coat than many other breeds. A highly shedding coat presents a higher risk to allergy sufferers than non-shedding dogs like a labradoodle puppy. As a dog with one of the most allergy-friendly coats , there are a few practicalities to keep in mind when it comes to your labradoodle pooch and its coat. Pretty much every labradoodle puppy goes through a coat change, which is separate from a shedding coat. The puppy coat is eventually replaced by an adult coat, which comes with more grooming requirements. Types of Labradoodle Puppy Coats One of the best things about labradoodle dogs is the wide range of choices with regard to appearance. Wool Coat You can determine if your Labradoodle puppy has a fleece coat. You can identify fleece coats by the way the fur sits between the eyes, as this area starts to get curly first. This is the curliest coat type, but it still comes in a variety of types. Some dogs with a curly coat have a cotton-type coat, which is the softest but also incredibly high maintenance. Labradoodle puppies with wool Labradoodle puppy coats are mainly non-shedding and can make great companions for pet owners with allergies. Fleece Coat Doodles with a fleece coat require a little less maintenance than the other types of doodles, but they still need weekly brushing and plenty of TLC. A fleece-coated labradoodle is the result of combining a curly wool coat gene with the gene for a straight coat. Areas such as the ears and collar are particularly prone to getting matted, so be sure to pay close attention to these areas when you brush your fleece-coated labradoodle once or twice per week. Hair Coat A labradoodle with a straight coat has inherited most of its fur genes from its Labrador retriever parent. Something interesting about Labradoodles is that their Labradoodle puppy coats change as they get older, so your hair-coated labradoodle might get a wave to its fur as it gets older. While you can also take it to a professional groomer on a weekly basis, this can incur hefty grooming costs. Most labradoodle owners opt to take their dog to a groomer once a month or two and do regular adult coat maintenance themselves. Use the correct type of dog brush and be sure to get all the way down to the skin. Give your dog a brush before and after bath time. All puppies eventually lose their puppy coat to make way for their adult coat, this goes the same with Labradoodle puppy coats. You might find the new type of coat is totally different from the old coat. Coats and Generational Differences The amount of hair your dog sheds varies between puppies, but generational differences can also play a role. First-generation doodles shed slightly more than second-generation doodles, with multigenerational Labradoodles shedding even less. We genetically test each breeding parent to make sure the shedding genes are not passed on to the puppies in our training program. We adore the breed and have a wide range of Labradoodle puppies for sale to choose from, with different color and type of Labradoodle puppy coats. We can even deliver a fully trained doodle puppy direct to your door if you like! All Labradoodle puppies have fine, soft, straight hair at first. But, as they grow, a curlier adult coat may replace this. But, they have easier grooming requirements. A Labradoodle puppy coat will be softer, finer, and straighter than their adult coat. In fact, many knowledgeable Doodle breeders can do a pretty good job of predicting which type of adult coat type a Labradoodle puppy will inherit. Labradoodle adults with straight fur have the hair type coat. Hair Coat Type The Labradoodle hair coat type is not silky straight, it is often thick and slightly wavy. This coat type is most similar to the Labrador Retriever parent. Either way, like the Lab parent, hair coated Labradoodles will shed year-round and may blow their coat during shedding seasons. Despite this, the hair coat is fairly wash-and-wear. A weekly brushing and occasional bath is all the maintenance it generally needs, unless your Doodle rolls in something stinky. The hair coat type is most likely to trigger allergy symptoms in owners that are allergic to the protein allergen in pet hair. Fleece Coat Type Overall, this coat type takes greater influence from the Poodle parent. It is soft and wavy — think angora wool and you are on the right track. If bred to the Australian Labradoodle breed standard, Labradoodles with a fleece coat will have one layer. This coat type is much less likely to shed out visibly than the hair type, but it does shed. The hairs are just more likely to get trapped in the surrounding coat. So, fleece coats may trigger fewer allergy symptoms. Of course, with less shedding, there is more potential for tangles and mats as the shed-out hair gets trapped in the surrounding coat. So, owners will have more brushing and grooming duties. Wool Type Coat The Labradoodle wool coat type is the main coat type that is considered allergy friendly. But, this coat type still sheds. Like the fleece coat, the hairs just get trapped in the surrounding fur rather than falling to the ground. Because of this, it can be truly time-consuming to brush and groom the true wool Labradoodle coat type. Earlier we mentioned how the puppy coat has a softer, finer, thinner texture than the adult Labradoodle coat — no matter which adult type they have. But how can you know if your Labradoodle puppy will keep their straight hair or grow up to have a wavy, fleece coat or a curly, wool coat? By 14 months old, your puppy should have their full adult coat. So, the sort of time that a puppy will go to their forever home. This is more likely when you are working with a later generation breeder. Many later generation breeders will work specifically with fleece or wool coat Labradoodles as breeding stock. This means a hair coat Labradoodle puppy is less likely. Choosing an Older Dog Another option if you really need or want a Doodle with a wool or fleece coat is to consider rescuing an older Labradoodle. This way, you can spend time with the dog before bringing them home. You can see if your chosen Labradoodle triggers allergy symptoms, if this is a potential issue for you. Of course you will miss out on the puppy stages. The Labradoodle breed was first created in an attempt to get a hypoallergenic guide dog. However, studies have shown that there is really no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog. This is because dog allergens are found in dander, saliva, and even urine — not in fur. So, even wool and fleece type Labradoodles are not hypoallergenic. The main reason they may trigger fewer allergy symptoms is that their curly fur catches shedding dander. But, none of the three hair types are hypoallergenic. They could all trigger allergy symptoms. You dog may yet grow up to have that lovable curly fur! Even if not, Labradoodles with straight hair have all the same popular traits, and they require less grooming! Does your Labradoodle puppy have straight hair? References and Resources Byrnell, J. No, Straight Haired Labradoodles are not hypoallergenic as they shed due to the dominance of Labrador genes over Poodle genes. They are unlike Wavy or Curly Haired Labradoodles which are hypoallergenic due to their long, curly coat that needs to be cut. That being said, straight haired Labradoodles are more hypoallergenic than a purebred Labrador. You can read our full Labradoodle shedding guide here. This is most likely to occur in a first generation Labradoodle F1 Labradoodle when a Labrador and Poodle are bred together rather than two Labradoodles. Whilst most people believe that all Labradoodles have a wavy or curly coat, it is actually very common for Labradoodles to have straight haired coat, taking after their Labrador parent more than the Poodle. Some Labradoodles look more like Labradors then Poodles, especially when they have a straight coat instead of a wavy or curly one. This occurs when Labradoodles do not inherit the curly coat gene called the Cu Locus gene and most commonly occurs for F1 Labradooodles. F2 Labradoodle is when an F1 Labradoodle is bred with another F1 Labradoodle resulting in a fifty-fifty chance of Straight Hair Labradoodles occurring in the litter. If you are looking for a Straight Hair Labradoodle you will want to get an F1 or F2 litter as they have the highest change of the straight hair gene of the Labrador coming through. No, not all F1 Labradoodles will have straight hair however a significant percentage of the litter will. F1 Labradoodles can have any coat type from wavy to curly to straight as it is a first generation breed of a Labrador Retriever and Poodle. No, Straight Hair Labradoodles do not have a double coat like their Labrador parent. Instead they have a single coat. As the weather gets hotter, Straight Hair Labradoodles will start shedding a little more than usual. Nevertheless, colour changes as expected for maturing Labradoodles. The colour of their coats often change colour or fade several shades lighter as they become an adult. Check out the adorable Labradoodle puppies that are currently available here! If you like the lapdog size of the Pomeranian and are a fan of the loving and playful nature of the Golden Retriever, then the Pomtriever mix is a perfect pet for you. The Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix is a tricky dog to breed. It is only possible to achieve the desired result by impregnating a female Golden Retriever with the sperm of a male Pomeranian. Once born, though, these dogs are some of the cuddliest, most loyal, and most fun dogs out there. Their small size and their lovable Golden temperament make them a splendid companion or family dog, especially for those who live in smaller quarters. We are bringing you all you need to know about the Pomtriever mix. So casual enthusiasts and potential pet-owners alike, come one, come all and learn all about this lovable mix. They are as cute as they sound. This mix keeps the coloration of the Golden Retriever, although with a slightly lighter tinge to the fur. Besides the fur and the size, the Pomtriever largely keeps the features of their Golden Retriever parents. Their facial construction and body composition is more reminiscent of a Golden, only slightly scaled down. If you want to talk specifics, the average Pomeranian Golden mix measures twenty-one to twenty-four inches tall at the shoulder and weighs fifty-five to seventy-five pounds 53 to 61 cm and 25 to 34 kg, respectively. Lifespan The Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix enjoys a ten to twelve year lifespan on average. If taken care of well enough, some can live to be even older. The long lifespan of their small-dog ancestors help to boost the number higher than the average Golden Retriever lifespan. Grooming Needs Golden Retrievers are infamous shedders. However, the Pomtriever is still a significant shedder. Their medium- to long-length hair requires weekly, if not daily, brushings to help allay the worst of the shedding and to prevent tangles and knots in their coat. Regular baths, about once or twice a month, with chemical-free pet shampoo are more than enough to keep your pet clean. Temperament The personalities of the Golden and the Pomeranian are well-balanced in the Pomtriever. Golden Retrievers are some of the best family dogs in the world. They are great family dogs and can play with children and adults alike for hours on end. This mix also inherits the keen sense of the Pomeranian to make it an excellent guard dog. Throw in the size of the Golden Retriever, and you have the best of both worlds. As an owner, this means that you need to ensure they get their daily allotment of exercise to help prevent them from getting too rambunctious and destructive in the house. Thirty minutes to hour-long walks are great for giving your dog the exercise it needs and draining its energy so it is calm indoors. Your Pomtriever will also love to play games with you. Fetch, tug-of-war, and any other activity or toy will keep them entertained. Health Risks As with every mixed breed, the Pomeranian Golden mix is bound to have some genetic problems. Before these happen, there are two preventative measure you can take to ensure a happy and healthy pet. Be sure to buy your dog from a reputable breeder that provides a health guarantee. There is nothing sadder or more dangerous than a breeder that engages in unsafe practices to breed dogs. Take your Pomtriever to the vet for regular checkups or if you suspect there is something wrong. Some of the most common health problems seen in Pomeranian mixes are allergies, skin problems, and joint dysplasia. Feeding Feeding any hybrid dog can be a tricky task, as the size and needs can vary from dog to dog. If you put your Pomtriever on a raw food diet or on a diet of dry food specialized for their size and which lacks additives or fillers, your dog should be happy and healthy. The amount to feed them is trickier to specify. As stated before, the size of the Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix differs from dog to dog. If you want to get an accurate recommendation of how much to feed your pet, visit your local vet. They will know best. Both Pomeranians and Golden Retrievers are protective breeds. Golden Retrievers also have a wonderful sense of danger and will stick close to their owner if they pick anything up. The Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix combines these good guard dog qualities into one package. In short, yes, the Pomtriever is an excellent guard dog. Buying a dog is not a purchase you want to skimp on financially, either. If you add the initial purchase cost to the recurring costs that come with owning a pet vet visits, food, toys, etc. When deciding if a breed is right for you, there are many things to consider: the living space you can provide; your financial ability to provide for the pet; the time you can dedicate to playing with it, walking it, and grooming it; and the personality dynamic between you and your potential pet. Last, if you enjoy an energetic, loyal, and clever dog, the Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix is a perfect pet to have. Their medium to long length fur offers some insulation, but not on the level of Huskies and Samoyeds. If you live in a mild climate with a temperature on average between 40 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit, then your Pomtriever will be comfortable. If not engaged enough, both physically and mentally, then their behavior can turn destructive. You need at least 30 minutes per day to walk them and drain their physical energy. You should also take time to play and bond with them daily. Playing games, running around outside, or even just petting and cuddling is a great way to strengthen the bond with your pet. It inherits the gentle, family-dog nature of the Golden Retriever and the fun-loving attitude of the Pomeranian to make for a gentle playmate for kids of any age. Compatibility with Other Animals If properly socialized and trained, the Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix can get along great with other pets, cats or dogs. You Might Also Like:. He wanted a dog that was very loyal, hardworking and that could help him hunt and retrieve. And with good reason! They're a really loyal family pet and have a wonderful temperament. They're caring, highly intelligent, and love to be around humans and other pets when well trained. As well as having a brilliant personality, Golden Retrievers are also very attractive dogs. They can grow to a height of .Of course, they're also a beautiful golden color. They're highly trainable and love to be put to work — whether that's helping you hunt or constantly fetching a ball! Pomeranian — Parent dogs Pomeranians are courageous, tiny, and extremely fluffy dogs. They were first bred in an area called Pomerania which was located in northern Germany and Poland. They're actually a descendent and the smallest of the Arctic Spitz breeds, so they also come from a long line of working dogs. Although their ancestors were hard-working, sled-pulling pups , Pomeranians are better known for being adorable lap dogs. They're energetic, intelligent, and caring around their humans. Just like the Golden Retriever, a Pomeranian has a double coat which helps them to stay cool in summer and warm in winter. Golden orange is the most common coat color, however, these tiny, fluffy pups come in 13 official colors recognized by the American Kennel Club! Temperament and personality of the Golden Retriever Pomeranian mix Even though they're not similar in size, there are a few personality traits that both the Golden Retriever and the Pomeranian have. It's only normal, therefore, that the Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix would have them too! These dogs are friendly, intelligent, playful, and very loyal. They love nothing more than to be with their family, whether that's snoozing on your lap or catching a ball in the garden. They're very sociable dogs. This, however, means they don't like being left alone. They love human attention and to keep busy in between naps and they're prone to developing separation anxiety if left alone for too long. A Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix is the perfect dog for you if you're looking for a pup to be the center of your world! Because they're so small, Pomeranians are not really used as working dogs, but more to look pretty on your lap. And whilst a Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix isn't a working dog either, they do make great guard dogs thanks to how alert their Pomeranian parents are! Appearance of the Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix If you think about the two parent breeds, it's hardly surprising that this mixed breed dog is seriously good-looking. But also, when you think about a Golden Retriever and a Pomeranian, it's hard to imagine how they could possibly breed — they're just so different! The size of your dog can vary quite a lot. Generally speaking, they're a little closer to a Golden Retriever size rather than a Pomeranian. Because a Pomeranian has small ears which stand up, and a Golden Retriever floppy ones, your hybrid pup could have either. Pomeranian Golden Retriever mixes can have facial features more similar to either parent breed. It's important you get your puppy from a reputable breeder as they'll be able to help you understand what your pup may look like and how big they'll be when they grow up. If you get your dog from an F1 or F1b breeder, you'll be getting a puppy that's from two purebred dogs in this case, a Pomeranian mating with a Golden Retriever. It's likely that in this litter the puppies will all look fairly different. If you choose an F2, F2b, or F3 breeder you'll get a dog that's been bred from two mixed-breed parents. The puppies will look more similar and you'll be able to get a realistic understanding of what your pup will look like. Normally although not necessarily , these designer dogs have a golden or golden orange coat. This color is the most common of both parents, so it's only natural they'd also have it. What's more, it's common for a Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix to have fur which is a bit fluffier and more consistent with that of a Pomeranian. They also have very different exercise requirements. Because Pomeranians only have little legs, they're happy with a short walk and a bit of play in the backyard. Golden retrievers, however, need a lot of exercise to keep healthy. They'll need a decent walk a day, plus time playing in the doggie park or enjoying a game of fetch with you. Both the Pomeranian and Golden Retriever need a lot of mental exercise if they're not to become bored and frustrated. How much exercise your Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix needs really depends on how big they are. Larger pups will need more and smaller pups less. Both parent breeds are highly intelligent and excel in training. Golden Retrievers are generally really happy to please their owners and will love training sessions. Pomeranians, on the other hand, will enjoy training as long as it doesn't go on too long. It's important to keep training time fun, with lots of positive reinforcement from you. Again, how your pup responds to training will really depend on which parent breed they take after more. As long as it's fun, they should love it! Grooming a Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix Do they shed? Because these dogs have a double coat you can expect them to shed all year round. Getting yourself a decent brush can help to keep shedding to a minimum. Because this mixed breed has long, fluffy fur, it's important you regularly brush your dog's coat to stop mats from forming. Daily brushing can also help to spread important oils which will keep their coat and skin healthy. Health and life expectancy of Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix Generally speaking, mixed breeds suffer from fewer illnesses and health conditions than their purebred ancestors. There are, however, a few conditions that can be passed down from Golden Retrievers and Pomeranians. Patella Luxation. This is a painful condition in which the kneecap slips in and out of place. Hip and elbow dysplasia. Dysplasia is a common health concern for many dog breeds. It's a condition in which the bone doesn't fit into the joint properly and can be quite serious. Eye issues. Both Pomeranians and Goldens can suffer from an array of eye diseases. An underactive thyroid condition. Heart issues. This breed can suffer from a few different cardiac issues. On the whole, Pomtrievers are pretty healthy pups. If you make sure you feed them well, give them the right amount of exercise, and entertain them enough they should live a very happy and healthy life — roughly 10 to 12 years! Before getting your hybrid puppy, it's important to check that the breeder has done all the necessary tests and checks to make sure your dog is as healthy as possible! It's also worth checking in shelters because you may find one of these adorable dogs there! Do they make good family pets? They're really loving dogs and care a lot about their family members. If trained well, they're also good with children and other animals. They're very intelligent dogs and will pick up new tricks easily. They love to please their owners and be praised. Training should be done regularly and it's important that it's always fun so they don't get bored and lose interest in it! Would you consider getting a Golden Retriever Pomeranian mix? They make great pets! Animals have always been a huge part of my life, so writing about dogs is a total pleasure! Whatever their diet is, make sure to feed them in moderation, overfeeding a pomeranian golden retriever mix is never a good idea. This means no table scraps and limited snacking and treats. Pomeranians shed less than goldens due to the texture of their fur, their dead hair gets trapped between their fluffy coats so you will have to groom them to get rid of the loose hair but even in the mix the shedding will be heavier when the seasons change. The mix needs to be brushed at least once a week because their coat is fluffy closer to the Pomeranian more than the retriever. So to deal with their coat correctly, you need to brush them with a sufficient frequency to prevent their coat from forming mats or you will struggle with tangles and knots in their coat as well. When you are grooming them, you need to remember to check inside their ear regularly for any signs of infection. The mix needs a bath about once or twice a month, make sure to choose the right shampoo and conditioner for them chemical-free and avoid too frequent bathing to avoid drying out their skin. Exercise Needs The pomeranian golden retriever mix is an energetic breed and they need to burn some energy or they may misbehave and show destructive behavior when they are bored. How much exercise do they need? The Golden Retriever Pomeranian mix needs a minimum of thirty minutes to one hour of good exercise per day, you can take them for a walk, train them to run with you, teach them how to swim, take them hiking, or just play fetch with them and just like that you will drain their energy so they can stay calm indoors. Also, according to the AKC, Pomeranians need less exercise than goldens because retrievers need lots of daily activity, meanwhile, Pomeranians need a minimum of 20 minutes of daily exercise. This means that the Pomtriever will usually fall somewhere in the middle, so it will need more exercise than the average Pomeranian but less than the Golden Retriever. However, your pup could lean to one of the breeds more than the other so if they lean toward the golden side then they need two walks a day and each one of them should last about 30 minutes but if they lean toward the pomeranian side, they will need less than 30 minutes. In short; your mileage may vary, and you will need to keep trying with your dog to find out what the sweet spot of exercise time and intensity is for them. Training Both the golden retriever and the pomeranian are highly intelligent and they are really easy to train, so as you can probably guess, the pomeranian golden retriever mix inherits this trait and you are going to have the easiest time training your pup, especially if you start training them when they are young. The most important tip when you are training your pomeranian golden retriever mix is to keep their training sessions short and on the point, because the Pomeranians can lose patience and attention with extended training sessions and the mix may inherit this trait so break the sessions into shorter daily sessions to make sure that you keep their attention span higher. Praise them when they are doing well because both golden and pom like to please their owners and need to hear that they are making you happy and pleased with them. The more exercise they get the easier they will be to train, also, make sure to socialize them when they are puppies. As Family Dogs The Pomeranian Golden Retriever mix is a perfect family dog for many reasons, and here is a quick explanation why, They are playful, loyal, energetic, and like to spend most of their time with their family members, all of that makes them an ideal choice if you have kids. The pomeranian golden retriever mix is not a toy dog or a large dog, they are considered a midsize breed which makes them the perfect size to be around children as they are less likely to injure the kids by mistake or get injured by kids playing rough with them. Since the breed is really energetic, they like to stay busy and have something to do so if they are not playing with the kids they will find something to do and you can easily train them to do the easiest chores around your home but keep an eye on them. They get along with other dogs and animals in general, so if you are thinking about getting a second dog then the pomeranian golden retriever mix is the ideal dog for you. As Guard Dogs Golden retrievers can be disastrous watchdogs because they love everyone but the Pomeranians are pretty decent when it comes to alarming their owner that something suspicious is going on and the mix inherits that from the pomeranian and both dogs will do anything to protect their loved ones. The pomeranian golden retriever mix is pretty vocal and will bark whenever a stranger is at the door or senses that something wrong is happening and can help protect your family and property. Not too big, not too small Easily trained Breed History The idea of crossbreeding a Golden Retriever with a Pomeranian might surprise you. Afterall, one is a medium-sized dog while the other falls into the toy category. This makes them an odd match indeed. Yet when bred responsibly, the Golden Pom is a lovely canine companion. Each breed has its own unique origin story. He used his own yellow retriever—the singular black puppy in a litter of blonde—with a Tweed Water Spaniel. Later, Irish Setters and Bloodhounds were added until, finally, they were officially recognized as a truly independent breed in .In contrast, the Pomeranians come from a much more regal line. Give a curtsy, because they are royal dogs! Northern sled dogs guarded livestock and pulled cargo in the snowy region. After hundreds of years, people bred these dogs smaller and smaller until eventually, a miniature version was born. Queen Victoria then became smitten with Pomeranians during a trip to Italy. She carried a handful home to Britain. From big and burly Arctic sled dog to tiny powderpuff, the Pom has come a long way. Nowadays, it is a popular choice to create hybrids. Facts about the Golden Pom Whenever two dissimilar breeds are crossed, the genetic outcome is a little bit of a gamble. Remember, the Golden Retriever is a tall and long muzzled dog, whereas a Pomeranian is short, stubby, and flatter faced. So, they could theoretically have traits of both parents. Golden Poms have a reputation for being healthy dogs. A well-bred puppy who receives proper care and food can expect to live anywhere between 10 and 12 years. Unique Qualities: Because of their highly alert natures, they make excellent watchdogs. Expect a Golden Pom to bark at intruders and probably the mailman, too. Do they shed: Oh yes! Hypoallergenic: Definitely not. Family Friendly: Yes. Golden Poms love being the center of attention and are also often the life of the party. They will play with children and entertain guests with their silly antics. Health Issues: The biggest concern with this breed has to do with their physical limitations. Classification: Being a hybrid breed , there is no official classification AKC. However, Golden Retrievers are working dogs and Pomeranians are toy dogs, making them an interesting blend of both. One word: furry. A Golden Retriever Pomeranian mix will be a total fluff ball, right from the second they are born. Their appearance will reflect both their mother and father. So, expect to see a coat that ranges from light whitish cream to a sunset gold color. Since a Golden Retriever has floppy ears and a Pom has erect triangle ears either could be expressed genetically. In addition, their legs could be longer or shorter. However, most Golden Poms take after the Retriever side, meaning they will be on the taller end. This is especially true if your dog is F1 first generation Golden Pom puppy. Eyes are typically chocolate brown. Tails are long and feathered, sometimes with a slight curl. But the most striking characteristic? So cute! Is Shedding a Problem? Due to their thick double coats, a Pom Retriever will shed 12 months per year. This makes them cooler during hot summer months. Invest in a good brush and vacuum before adopting a Golden Pom. What Should Pom Retrievers Eat? To maintain those luscious coats, you must feed a Pom Retriever the right diet. Well, because both Golden Retrievers and Pomeranians tend to be overweight. They just love to eat! A kibble or raw food diet should consist of meat for protein, veggies, and fatty acids, like those from fish oils. This will help keep their golden coats shiny, too. That means go easy on the table scraps such as fruits and tamales. How Do You Groom Them? The easiest method of grooming a Golden Retriever Pomeranian is to simply drop them off at the doggy salon. But, as a pet parent, home grooming can save money and allow for bonding time with your pet. Therefore, those who want to DIY must have the right tools and prepare ahead of time. Dog Wish suggests a good brushing 2—3 times each week. Add a pin brush and slicker brush to your routine to prevent matts and tangles. Exercise and Energy Levels Want to go play fetch? Golden Retrievers were originally meant to be working dogs, chasing after partridge and water birds. And they never lost their strong prey drive. Pomeranians are also high energy dogs by nature. So, break out those walking shoes. Your dog will need at least two 30 minutes walks each day, plus playtime and off leash time to stay happy and healthy. Yet there are still a few health concerns to be aware of. They may also suffer from patella luxation when the knee cap comes out of place. Cancer Tracheal collapse Heart disease Tooth decay — Pomeranians are a breed that is one of the most prone to dental problems. Here are some tips on how to provide dental care without brushing their teeth every day. Pay attention to any ailments and see a veterinarian early. How much do these dogs usually cost? The biggest pros of adopting one of these dogs are: friendly and affectionate personalities, gorgeous appearance, high trainability, and convenient size. As far as cons go, it really depends upon the owner. Somebody who hates cleaning up tumbleweeds of fur, finds barking loud and annoying, and cannot commit to at least 1—2 hours of exercise every day should probably steer clear of a Golden Pom. The fun-loving Retriever mixed with the spunky Pomeranian absolutely makes this hybrid breed a winner in our books. Both breeds are often very food motivated and can be trained with patience and treats. You can expect the same from a Pomtriever. It will be a very smart dog that you can easily train with small training sessions with treats as rewards. Both breeds are also known for being diligent watchdogs that are prone to alert their owners to any perceived dangers. You can also expect a Pomtriever to be prone to barking. Luckily, these dogs are very intelligent and can be trained not to bark uncontrollably. Golden Retrievers on the other hand are known for being high energy and requiring lots of exercise and space to run and play. You can expect a Pomtriever to be a high-energy dog that loves to play and run. A Pomtriever is best suited in a home that has a nice yard to run and play in. Do Pomtrievers Get Bored Pomeranians and Golden Retrievers are both highly intelligent dogs that are prone to getting bored. Pomtrievers would have the same mental needs. Separation anxiety can become serious and lead to undesirable behaviors like barking, pacing, urinating in the house, as well as destruction. Not all dogs will experience a high level of anxiety but, it is recommended not to get one of these breeds if they will be left home alone for a long time every day. Since both breeds are prone to separation anxiety you can expect a Pomtriever to be vulnerable to the same condition. Are Pomtrievers Good With Families Pomeranians are not the best fit in a home with very young children due, to their small stature and vulnerability to injury. Golden Retrievers are much larger in size which makes them a better fit for a family. When you mix the two together, you end up with a dog that is not too small for young children but, is playful and friendly. One of the reasons is that they are not a breed that is recognized by the AKC. I often suggest searching the AKC Marketplace for available puppies and breeders. If you are looking for a highly intelligent dog that loves to play a Pomtriever may be a good fit. Pomtrievers are bigger than Pomeranians making them less fragile but, also less mobile. A Pomtriever may also be more difficult to locate compared to Pomeranians and Golden Retrievers. Regardless of whether you choose a Pomeranian, Golden Retriever, or a Pomtriever you are destined to have a friend for life. I currently have three Pomeranians and grew up with a Golden Retriever. They are all wonderful dogs, I can only imagine a Pomtriever would be a wonderful addition to any family. Other Articles You May Enjoy!

My sisters have joined me in this passion so there are litters being raised in three states, New Jersey, Tennessee and Kentucky. Lauri, Dianne, Holli and myself work autonomously yet we give each other support. The breeding program is managed by me, Darcy. If you have questions regarding breeding I am generally best to answer these questions. We periodically have puppies available for show, service work, performance sports, and great pets. Between the four of us we can have approximately 3 to 6 litters per year. I Darcy am also a founding member of the Betterbred Registry which analyzes VGL genetic data in regards to autoimmune and other potential health issues for poodles. We strive to provide appropriate stimulation for each puppy according to their development. This includes frequent walks outside, visiting our other pets, and playing with different kinds of toys. We also incorporate positive training while the puppies are young in such a way that the puppies don't even know they are receiving obedience training. We keep it fun. As maturing puppies stay with us we continue obedience training and they learn more and more the longer they are with us. We temperament test using the Volhard tool to help us pair puppies to the right home. This helps for each puppy and family to come to a great match for each other. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. No Why is the Pug so expensive? Pugs are often considered expensive due to a combination of factors, including their popularity, demand, and the costs associated with breeding and raising them. Here are some reasons why pugs may have a higher price tag: Breeding challenges: Pugs have a unique physical structure with a short snout, which can lead to health issues. Breeding pugs requires careful selection to minimize these problems, which can increase the cost of obtaining healthy and well-bred puppies. Health concerns: Pugs are prone to several health conditions, such as respiratory problems, eye issues, and skin allergies. Responsible breeders undertake health testing and provide necessary veterinary care, which contributes to the overall cost. Limited availability: While Pugs are a popular breed, finding a reputable breeder can be challenging. Responsible breeders may have a limited number of litters each year, which increases demand and drives up prices. Popularity: Pugs have gained significant popularity over the years due to their charming appearance and friendly temperament. Increased demand for Pugs can drive prices up, as breeders can charge more when there is high demand for a particular breed. Breeding expenses: Responsible breeders invest a considerable amount of time, effort, and money into breeding and raising their puppies. This includes expenses such as health checks, vaccinations, proper nutrition, and socialization. These costs are passed on to potential buyers. So just be ready for more than the price of a puppy — unexpected vet bills, food , treats, toys, etc. This is pretty much the same price as a Pug from any reputable breeder, as you would expect to get a purebred Pug from a reputable breeder. What is the cheapest price of a Pug puppy? Adopting is also a great way to provide a home to a pet in need while also saving yourself some money in the process. What is the price of a Male Pug Puppy? However, prices are high for those with superior lineages and pure breeds. How Much Is a Pug in the Philippines? In the Philippines, different Pug breeders from different parts of the country have varying prices. However, the average price is slightly consistent compared to in the US. Below are some of the Pug prices and descriptions. A purebred 1. A purely black female Pug without papers aged between 6- and months costs PHP8, Plus, you can also negotiate the price with some breeders. In California, the cost of Pugs constantly fluctuates due to market demands. The cost of a typical puppy Pug in India lies between 5,Rs and 20,Rs. However, the average price ranges from 10,Rs and 12,Rs. Keep in mind that these prices also fluctuate from time to time. Posted on. Few people can resist the goofy smile of a Pug. However, the market price of a Pug will vary greatly based on a few important factors, such as the blood line, breeder reputation, location, and coat color. However, compared to other dog breeds, Pugs are not very cheap. Though you can certainly find one for much less, the average cost of a healthy Pug from a good breeder is not something to scoff at. There are plenty of factors that can determine how much a Pug will cost you. For instance, location, breeder reputation, pedigree and colors can all play a factor in Pug price. Location Unfortunately, the price of a Pug can vary depending on where you are. In some countries such as the UK , these dogs will likely cost a lot more. And even in the same country, the price will vary by location state, city, region, etc. If you must pick up a Pug in a certain region, then there is very little you can do. Driving for more than 10 hours one way may require an overnight stay. Pedigree and Lineage The pedigree or bloodline of a Pug will matter in regards to price. In fact, this may be the most important factor for price variation seen in all dog breeds, including Pugs. According to Business Insider , the prices of pedigree dogs such as Pugs are climbing to an all-time high. So what exactly is a pedigree dog? These dogs have at least 3 generations without any crossbreeding. Anything less is technically not a pedigree dog. However, there has been concern and controversy over the overbreeding of pedigree dogs. These dogs are bred over and over again using dogs from the same family. Inbreeding can lead to a lower life expectancy in Pugs, as well as potential degenerative diseases and mutations. Rather, the opposite is likely to happen. Pugs with a superior lineage will cost much more than a Pug without. And when I say superior lineage, I really mean champion lineage. Champion dogs are those that win an event at an AKC event. Sometimes, these dogs can command a hefty premium if they have an impressive long list of ancestors. Another great reason to go with AKC registered Pugs is that you can confirm the lineage of the pup. Reputable Pug Breeder There are two types of breeders you can purchase a Pug from: reputable and non-reputable breeders. I always highly recommend finding a reputable breeder. However, just like in every industry, reputation comes with a premium price. By reputable breeders, I really mean responsible breeders. The American Kennel Club inspects thousands of kennels each year and provide certification to those that breed responsibly. But because these breeders are recognized and recommended by the AKC, their puppies do come with a premium. These colors are fawn and black. Selling different colored dogs for different prices is frowned upon. However, even reputable breeders do this. Unfortunately, this is a classic example of supply and demand. In addition, expect the apricot, silver and apricot fawn colors also see a markup in prices. Less common dogs cost more. Personally, I think the classic fawn Pug with a black mask is the most attractive. No matter what color, all Pugs will be loving dogs and companions. To sum things up, the key is to shop around. There are so many great adoption websites with plenty of Pugs that need a new home. The first site I highly recommend is Adopt-a-Pet. With just a quick check, I already see plenty of Pugs on that marketplace! Another fantastic website is PetFinder. Have a check for yourself! Visit Your Local Animal Shelters Adopting a Pug from an animal shelter is always the best, that is, if you can find one. Do a simple Google search for shelters near you and check Yelp too! When doing your research, check to see if they have a website. It might be a good idea to check that before driving all the way there. It really depends on the shelter, but adoption fees can vary a lot. Are Pugs Worth the Price? But are they really worth the cost? Pugs are some of the most entertaining dogs you can find. My pug is definitely a handful but being able to come back from work to see her silly face every day is well worth the time and money spent. Pug Owner So, yes — Pugs are definitely worth the price! Some claim that these super pedigree Pugs are more intelligent. The truth is, all Pugs are intelligent in their own way. They may not be the most obedient dog breeds, but they show high instinctive and adaptive intelligence. How much did your Pug cost? Let us know in the comments section below! Posts you may like:. Compared to most small dogs, Pugs cost less in comparison. Pugs, in particular, are quite susceptible to respiratory issues, skin infections, and bone problems that can affect their lifespan. In other words, while they seem relatively cheap at first, these costs will add up over time. Check out this video for more information on Pug pricing: Things you should know about pugs! Female Pug: Which Is Better? The initial cost of a puppy alone will set you back at least a few hundred dollars. But why are they so expensive? There is no one factor that directly determines how much a Pug puppy will cost. There are multiple factors often working hand in hand. Getting some background knowledge in these things will give you a better grasp on what makes Pug puppies so expensive and where your money is going. This will also help you figure out the right Pug that fits within your budget. Here are some of the major factors affecting Pug prices: Age: As a rule of thumb, puppies typically cost more than adult dogs. This is no different when it comes to Pugs. Pug puppies are typically more expensive as the process of breeding can cost the breeders a lot of money. From health screenings to vitamins and sometimes even c-sections, it takes a lot of money to keep the mama dog happy. Appearance: Although there are only two registered Pug colors in the American Kennel Club, Pugs can often be seen in a wide assortment of shades. Rarer brindle coats tend to fetch a higher price than solid colored pups, and fawn or apricot Pugs with a black mask are also experiencing a rise in cost. A Pug from a reputable breeder, although expensive, will have perfect health, a good temperament, and no pre-existing medical conditions such as PDE or Pug dog encephalitis. A lot of reputable breeders also breed dogs from champion bloodlines, which ensures that the Pugs will inherit the best traits from their parents. A Pug with a superior lineage will cost significantly more than a regular Pug. Health Screenings: A vast majority of Pug breeders usually screen their puppies for pre-existing health issues before selling them. Healthy puppies with no signs of underlying medical issues will usually have a heftier price tag than others and will save you vet expenses in the long run. Training Received: Although Pugs are good family dogs, they can be quite stubborn and challenging to train. So if a Pug breeder trains their puppies before selling them, expect the price to be relatively higher than usual. Bringing home trained puppies is always worth it, though, as it saves you time and effort. These are just some of the most significant things that affect the price of a Pug dog. Of course, this list is by no means complete. Rescues generally have a lower price tag for their Pugs. What makes the deal even more ideal is that most shelter dogs have already been fully vaccinated. Additionally, many of them have already been dewormed, spayed or neutered, or even microchipped in some cases. Here are some of the initial expenses for your Pug puppy: Food and Treats: Deciding between wet or dry food is crucial in the first few days that your Pug dog comes home. If your Pug is a picky eater, you may need to try out different brands and flavors to see which one your pup likes best. This also applies to doggy treats. Ultimately though, stainless steel bowls will withstand more wear and tear. Crate: For first-time dog owners, a crate is one of the most important things to invest in. Crate training your pup is important, as it introduces them to a safe space when they feel overstimulated or unsafe. It also helps transport your Pug dog to places like the vet or during car rides. Leashes and Collars: As soon as you bring your new dog home, it is important that you get them acquainted with a leash and collar. Some dogs take a while to get adjusted to wearing harnesses, so starting pups with a collar while getting them used to daily walks is optimal. Toys: Pugs often have a reputation for being lazy, sleepy dogs, but this is not the case at all. A well-stimulated, happy Pug will be playful and alert rather than spend most of its time sleeping. Enrichment objects such as chew toys and puzzle toys are sure to keep your puppy busy and your slippers and charging cables safe from bites. Grooming Essentials: Although they have short fur, Pugs are double-coated. This means that they shed more than other short-haired dogs. Deworming, Flea, and Tick Medications: A lot of Pug breeders typically cover deworming, flea, and tick prevention before selling their puppy. Initial Vaccine Shots: Before a Pug puppy turns one year old, they need to complete their first set of vaccine shots. The usual shots most dogs need are for distemper, parainfluenza, rabies, parvovirus DHPP , and hepatitis. Neutering or Spaying: If you have no plans of breeding your Pug, it may be good to consider neutering or spaying them. If done at the right age, getting your dog fixed will help prevent the risk of some cancers and uterine infections. Dog License: While it may seem unnecessary at first, licensing your dog is a great way to have a permanent formal record of your ownership. This is especially helpful if your dog gets lost. Licensing also lets people know if your dog is up to date on its rabies vaccinations. A microchip will come in handy if ever you lose your pooch. It does not, however, work as a GPS tracker. If your lost puppy gets taken to a shelter or a clinic, they can easily scan the chip and contact you immediately. These include vitamins , pet-safe wipes, poop bags, and a poop scooper. A few toys should do the trick, but make sure to provide them with at least a few puzzle toys to get their brains working. Pugs thrive on attention and most are happy with an hour or so of playtime in the yard, two walks per day, and an occasional trip to the park to socialize with other dogs. Training your Pug beyond basic obedience training is a great way to bond with them and provide mental stimulation. Pugs are eager to please and attentive to their owners, so teaching them tricks or training them in agility are excellent ways to occupy their minds and enhance your relationship. Pugs only eat about pounds of food per year and are mostly healthy, although setting aside extra cash to deal with emergencies is a good idea. Food, medication, and pet insurance—if you purchase it—will be the highest regular costs, but occasional vet visits and extra medication for potential eye problems could become significant outlays as well. Additional Costs to Factor In Most Pug owners have success training their dogs themselves, but some people still opt for professional training. Dog sitting is another additional cost that only applies to some people. Before you purchase your new buddy, make sure you can budget enough money per month to cover food and medication costs. It is also a good idea to have money set aside to cover unexpected medical expenses. Training games, obedience training, and makeshift agility courses are excellent inexpensive ways to keep your Pug happy and make for some great owner-dog bonding time. Your upfront costs could be significantly reduced if you adopt a dog from a local shelter. The main drivers are food, medications like heartworm and flea and tick prevention, and pet insurance. Pugs are strong willed but rarely aggressive, and are suitable for families with children. The majority of the breed is very fond of children and sturdy enough to properly play with them. History There are various theories regarding the origin of the Pug breed, but the most generally accepted is that they originated in the Orient, and are a smooth-coated, longer-legged type of Pekingese. They have been well known in Europe since at least the 16th Century. After gaining favor with Royalty, the breed became very popular and even more well known. The AKC recognized the Pug in .Pin it to remember the Price of Pugs Why are Pugs so expensive? So just why are Pugs so expensive? One reason is because Pugs, like most other Brachycephalic dogs with flat faces and large heads , are most often born via cesarean section. Pugs are also susceptible to numerous orthopedic and hereditary diseases—so reputable breeders will conduct testing on both parents to help ensure a healthy litter. This test screens for Hip Dysplasia and Patellar Luxation. Breeders also have the option to test for Elbow Dysplasia with this screening. This important test screens for Necrotizing meningoencephalitis NME , a fatal brain disorder that can kill Pug puppies. This metabolic disease breaks down the red blood cells of a young Pug. The price will depend on several factors: The location of the breeder. The rules of supply and demand pertain to dogs as well so larger metropolitan areas are often more expensive. The pedigree of the parent Pugs. Pugs that have participated in sanctioned competitions have more expensive litters. Whether the Pug is a show quality dog or a pet quality dog. Show quality puppies with a future in competitive dog shows and breeding are more expensive. The age of the Pug. Puppies are definitely more expensive; you may occasionally find a breeder selling a retired breeding Pug or a Pug that originated at the breeder but has been returned. The color of the Pug. AKC recognized two colors : black and fawn. The Canadian Kennel Club recognizes fawn, silver fawn and black. The Federation Cynologique Internationale and the Kennel Club of the UK both recognize silver sometimes called silver-fawn , apricot often called apricot-fawn , fawn and black. The less common the color, the more expensive the dog. Attend a sanctioned dog show and talk with Pug breeders and competitors for recommendations. Ask your veterinarian for recommendations regarding reputable breeders. Do an online search for complaints. Check the Facebook page of the breeder and read through comments. Remember, however, comments can be deleted by the page owner. When you find a breeder and want to determine if they are reputable: Ask for references. The breeder should be happy to share the name and contact information for customers. Ask questions. Lots of questions. The breeder should be glad to share the test results from the health tests and screenings. Ask how often the dogs are bred. Ask to tour the kennels. Are they well maintained? Do the dogs look healthy? Beware of operations that will not let you tour the kennels and breeders that want to meet you in a parking lot to hand over the puppy. Be prepared for questions. The breeder should ask YOU questions as well; be suspicious if the breeder has no questions about your past history with pets, your living situation, etc. Ask if the breeder will take the Pug back if necessary. Ask for a contract. If medical problems are diagnosed, the breeder should readily take the pup back and provide a full refund. Pug breeders may adopt out of the area but, nonetheless, you will want to go to the breeder to meet the parents, view the kennels and bring home your puppy in person. This will add to your expenses—but breeders that transport a puppy by air are putting the dog at risk. If you want to buy a Pug online, please think again. There are numerous scams; people spend thousands of dollars for a dog and never receive a puppy. AKC warns potential pet parents to be wary of any seller asking for payment by Venmo, in gift cards or as a wire transfer. Dogs purchased from puppy mills can mean years of heartache and expensive veterinary care. The pros of purchasing from a Pug breeder: You may be able to select a puppy—including a choice of color and gender. A reputable breeder will be passionate about Pugs and will a resource for years to come. The cons of purchasing from a Pug breeder You will pay more for a Pug from a breeder than a rescue or shelter. If you find a breeder who has Pug puppies for sale at prices far lower than you are seeing from other breeders, you must suspect you are dealing with a backyard breeder who has not done health screening, with an online seller who is operating a puppy mill or is running a scam. You will need to wait until puppies are available. You will need to do your own due diligence to select a reputable breeder. Pugs in rescues are far less expensive that those at a breeder. Pugs under a year old will be the most costly. The dogs that are up for adoption at Pug rescues may be there for a variety of reasons: Death of an owner. Lost Pugs that the rescue had seen on shelter websites. Pugs a breeder no longer wanted. Whatever the reason, the Pugs in rescue may or may not come with papers, depending on whether or not the dog was surrendered with papers. You may also find Pug rescues at pet expos and special events in your area. Rescues will often have a booth with information on the rescue and a few adoptable dogs. Most dogs at purebred rescues are pulled from shelters, often open-intake shelters that may not be no-kill shelters. You will be able to adopt a Pug for far less money than purchasing a Pug from a breeder. You will be able to talk with people who are passionate about Pugs about the individual Pug you are interested in adopting. Our most recent search brought up a healthy, 7-month-old Pug puppy so you never know. Your dog may or may not be a purebred Pug and may or may not have papers. The least expensive option when it comes to Pug prices is the shelter, either a municipal shelter or a privately-operated shelter. Are you a senior? A member of the military or law enforcement? Many shelters offer special discounts. To locate a Pug at a shelter, call your local shelter or start your search online. Click on the link of adoptable Pugs in the top left corner; you can then enter your zip code to see Pugs near you. The listings will include both rescues and shelters. Unlike adopting from a Pug rescue, dogs at a shelter will generally be housed at the shelter although an increasing number utilize foster homes whenever they can, especially for puppies. If the dog is housed at the shelter, you may not know a lot about his or her personality. Talk with the shelter staff and ask if the dog has been temperament tested and if they can tell you if the dog is skittish, shy, outgoing, has any prior training, etc. And while you may see dogs listed as a Pug at a shelter, that may or may not mean they are Pugs, purebred or mixed. Shelters use their best judgement, often while intaking many dogs, so sometimes the accuracy of the breed is questionable. Since Pugs do have such a distinctive look, however, you can use your judgement to see if the dog displays usual Pug characteristics and markings. Ask the shelter if they have any background on the dogs; you may be surprised to find a puppy whose purebred mother came in as a pregnant lost dog and gave birth at the shelter. It definitely happens. The Pros of Adopting a Pug from a Shelter You are saving a life, not only of the dog you adopt but of the next dog who will be rescued due to the kennel that is now clear. Your new dog will have received a long list of veterinary services. You will have the love of a dog whose price was far less than that of a dog from a breeder. You may not know the history of the dog. FAQ What is the cheapest price for a Pug? If you find low-cost purebred Pugs listed online, please consider that you may be supporting a puppy mill. What is the Teacup Pug price? These dogs are the result of breeding the smallest runt dog of one litter to the smallest dog of another litter, producing smaller than usual Pugs—and selling them for sometimes twice as much as a traditional Pug. As you might expect, this can mean additional health problems for the puppies. Are Pugs expensive to own? While their small size means Pugs are not as expensive to own as larger breeds, due to the potential health issues discussed above they can be expensive in terms of veterinary care. Pet insurance is a good investment to help cover vet issues as they arise. Pin it to remember the Price of Pugs Posted on Last updated:.

Exercises Grooming From ancient Germany precisely around the 19th century had the now extinct mastiff breed Bullenbeisser and bulldogs brought in from England. At the time of their arrival, they served as hunting dogs for bears, deer, and other ferocious beasts, it would capture the prey with the help of its awesome teeth and detain it until the hunter arrives. And in the first boxer standard club was launched with a comprehensive document that is still in use today. Shortly after, the breed made its way into other European countries and got into the U. S in the late 19th century with the American Kennel Club taking registration of its first boxer around .During the first world war, boxers played the role of a military dog as a pack-carrier, a guard dog, and an attack dog, later they were taken home by the soldiers and got introduced into the domestic world as a show dog, best companion, and a reliable guard. One with so much life, energetic, curious, attentive, active, smart, sociable and incredible fun with children is the boxer, they are also known to be very patient and highly protective of their family members making them the love and desire of many homes. As active dogs, they need a lot of exercise to keep them mentally fit, apparently having a mind of its own, you will find your boxer entertain itself by digging the ground often, chewing, and licking the mouth to beat boredom. They are also very stubborn in character which makes them a terrible choice for first-timers with dogs, they are generally a bit difficult with adult dogs including dogs of a similar breed but friendly with puppies. They usually do not bark unless there is a genuine reason behind it but they love to growl. If you have occupied home with people around all the time or you want a canine buddy the whole time, then a boxer is just the perfect breed to get. Being a highly active dog, they dread loneliness and they can cope finely in both a house and an apartment as long as you provide it with enough room and spaces for exercises and activities. What you must have is a large yard if you are living in a house for it to dig the ground and run around as it likes. And more so, if you are given to being away from home most of the time, getting a boxer may not be the best for you and the dog, because they usually get aggressive when left alone. Boxers are known as loud snorers and they drool greatly too. Boxers are playful and very energetic dogs as such regular exercises are part of a good canine relationship, especially a breed of this sort. Your boxer should be allowed to play in a fenced area and on-leashed since it is likely to jump and leap around in excitement. This puts a boxer as a bad choice for a frail owner as they may find it a tad impossible and daunting keeping up with its excessive activity demands. Being a breed with a short and thin coat its grooming demands are quite easy and little, all it needs is a light brushing of the hair twice every week to maintain its good and gleeful looks. Bathing should be a once in a while since boxers are generally clean dogs and its nails, be trimmed once every month or as often as they grow worn on surfaces, its teeth should also be brushed daily to avoid tartar formation and other dental crises. Our Boxer puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers.
