What can I expect when I pick up my puppy and what should I bring? Before you come to get your puppy, please schedule a visit to your veterinarian for your puppy that will be within 72 hours of your puppy coming to your new home. We want your vet to confirm the puppy is healthy per the contract. Puppies can be scheduled to be picked up just about any day of the week, from am to pm Eastern. You will need to coordinate the pickup time with us as we occasionally have more than one family picking up their puppy on the same day. You will want to bring a carrier or a sherpa bag designed for carrying dogs. If you drive to pick up your puppy, we still recommend a carrier for the drive home. Also bring an older, clean towel that is not frayed, to line the bottom of the carrier to keep them comfortable and an extra towel or two just in case. A small package of wet wipes will prove to be handy too. If you are flying to get your puppy and if you are able to find a combination of flights that could get you in and out of Columbus the same day; we do offer to meet you at the John Glenn Columbus airport during your layover. You will be introduced to your new puppy, take care of the paperwork, take some pictures, and say our goodbyes. We do not charge extra for this service, but we do need to coordinate the plans with you. What can we expect once the puppy gets home? You may both be a bit tired and nervous. Your puppy will likely want to eat a little and have water. They will want to be held and talked to and reassured and get to know you. If you want them to sleep in a crate each night, start that the first night. If you plan to have them sleep in your bedroom, then start with that. This combination allows us to get the wonderful, husky structure of the Bernese Mountain Dog in a shrunk down, cuddly package. Some of my apricot Bernedoodles have amazed me on the quality of curl, thickness of coat and broadness across the back as they keep the adorable teddy-bear structure that we all love. They are similar to a Goldendoodle in color, but offer a husky-ness that is not found in the Goldendoodle. We see wideness across the back in the skeletal structure which is gorgeous. They tend to be short in body verses long-bodied. This gives them a stack that really shows off their figures. It's truly a teddy-bear, lap dog! You will fall in love with the many colors and the varying hues of the copper that the petites come in. In addition, their temperaments are a bundle of joy and excitement, making for a perfect family pet for young children and the elderly. When Bernedoodle breeders talk about a Mini Bernedoodle you need to keep in mind that Mini compared to a pound Bernese can still be over 50 pounds with some Mini Bernedoodles getting as large as 65 pounds. Our Bernedoodles come in three breed sizes - Standard, Miniature, and Tiny. Our F1 Standard Bernedoodles will usually stand inches at the shoulder and weigh or more pounds. Most standard Bernedoodles are in the pound range. Females are usually smaller than males. Our F1 Mini Bernedoodles usually stand between 17 and 22 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 25 to 65 pounds with most of them weighing lbs. Again females tend to be smaller than males. They are sized similar to our F1 Minis. F1B Tiny Bernedoodles usually stand between 12 and 17 inches tall and weigh between 15 and 25 pounds. Again, these puppies tend to be more hypoallergenic and usually less shedding than the F1 Bernedoodles. Differences between male and female Bernedoodles. We are often asked if there is a difference between boys' and girls' personality. Our experience is that there is a lot more difference from puppy to puppy in a litter even in the same gender than there is between boys and girls. Males might tend to be more affectionate and goofy, but also a bit more stubborn while females can be more independent but easier to train and less stubborn. The differences are actually quite subtle, and both males and females make absolutely amazing pets. Temperament is more important than gender when looking for the puppy that is the right fit for you. Male Bernedoodles tend to be larger than females, but beyond that there is not a major difference between the genders. Our Bernedoodles have various coat colors and types. Coat colors are generally a combination of both of the parents' breeds. Almost all of our F1 puppies have the beautiful tri-colored markings of the Bernese. This tri-colored coat is a less common variation and is generally the most sought after. You will see the most variation in color in our F1b puppies. One of the huge attractions to the bernedoodle is its hypoallergenic coat. Bernedoodle coats can vary in thickness, consistency, and color. In an F1 first generation breeding, you might get a puppy with a coat that looks more similar to a Poodle and get another puppy with a coat more like a Bernese Sometimes even within the same litter. While most of our bernedoodles have minimal to no shedding, a curly, Poodle-type coat will shed less than the one that is more straight, like the Bernese Mountain Dog. We encourage a more curly coat for people that have allergy issues. If you have intense allergies you should consider a curlier coated F1 or an F1B puppy. Bernedoodle coats are generally put into three main categories - Curly, Wavy, and Straight. Please note when looking at the examples below that the appearance of our Bernedoodles is greatly affected by whether they are groomed and how short the coats are if groomed. Be sure to consider this when looking at the pictures. The curls on this coat are usually tight with a soft texture much like what you would see on a Poodle. Curly coats may still shed, but they shed the hair upon themselves rather than on your floor. Unfortunately, this shedding upon themselves is what makes it necessary for them to be brushed daily and trimmed frequently. The curly coated Bernedoodle is usually the most suitable for owners who have an allergy to dog dander. This coat is very free-flowing and often has a lightly kinked or wavy appearance.
