The first relates to the Lilac color itself and the second due to the presence of the Merle gene. Lilac is not able to be registered to the AKC and is classified as a fad color. This means they believe the color falls outside of the expected standard for French Bulldogs although this can change over time. As Lilac requires this gene to be present they it also possible for this to be the case. Merle itself comes with additional health issues. Whilst there is the risk of producing Double Merle offspring which come with significant health challenges. There is also the risk that a Single Merle gene can also have a risk of health issues.
