It means I personally make sure each individual pup is fed every 2 hours- 24 hours a day, the first 2 weeks of its life. At feeding time, I make sure each puppy gets on a nipple so they don't have to struggle to find one. I make sure that each puppy gets an adequate amount of milk. Then, once I see that they have been well fed. I pick up one pup at a time and have the mom lick it to go potty. And then I put them in their little crib to ensure they are safe and not smooth by the mother until the next feeding 2 hours later. At three weeks, we feed the pups every 4 hours. But at this point, even though the pups eyes and ears are open. I still supervise the feeding to ensure that each pup is adequately fed and again not smothered by it's mother. I believe in giving these pups outstanding care. Even if that means that I lose a lot of sleep, and even if it ends up just saving one pups life. That one pup could be the next Labrador that I get a testimony about how it brought so much joy into one person's life! So, in the end, all the work and lack of sleep is worth it. This senior lady is an absolute angel. She was with her doggie sister Matilda. Marley acted as a seeing eye dog for Matilda who was blind. They were bonded and loved each other. Sadly Matilda deteriorated rapidly in a shelter environment and passed away there leaving Marley all alone. When we got Markey from the shelter her entire demeanor changed into a happy dog again that is so grateful for another chance. Marley is a 10 year old, female, Standard Poodle mix. She weighs 59 pounds. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on shots. She is thankfully Heartworm negative. We are in the process of determining exactly what it is. She can still see. It is not glaucoma or anything our reg vet could diagnose. We are waiting on a specialist apt to diagnose and treating if possible but wanted to start looking for her perfect home while we do.
