One or both of this puppy's parents have undergone genetic testing. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. We even have all types of golden retrievers for sale! At My Golden Retriever Puppies, we pride ourselves on our golden retriever price being fair and affordable for high quality puppies. Location Information for Bakersfield Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. Speaking with 7News on Wednesday, Jennifer Thompson said the German shepherd puppy was abandoned and tied to a fence outside her home with a 3-inch leash. What if I stayed for a week? She would have been dead. The driver appeared to look up the driveway. The truck then came back, stopped, and a man in a blue shirt popped the tailgate. He led the pup off the truck bed and took off. The puppy was seen chasing after them, but at some point, just past the hedges, someone got out and tied the German shepherd to the fence. The despicable act was caught on camera. As the puppy receives much-needed TLC, Thompson hopes someone steps forward to give this girl a forever home and that those men responsible get the karma they deserve. Despite all that, the puppy is good-natured, was in good health and appeared to be trained. The couple is now looking for someone to adopt the puppy. Copyright Sunbeam Television Corp. Nearly a dozen German shepherds have ended up in shelters over the last week, after they were abandoned in different locations in Bergen and Passaic counties. After being abandoned and alone in the wild for several days, a German shepherd, now named Shelby, was caught and rescued last week. You could tell she wanted to be caught. But, you know, she was just very, very frightened," Asher said. Later, Asher was talking with others in the animal rescue community when they realized Shelby wasn't the only German shepherd that was dumped. In the past week, at least 8 German.Posted by Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge on Friday, May 28, So far, at least 10 German shepherds have been found, and it appears they all came from the same place. We typically would say it's a backyard breeder, so somebody who clearly is not doing it responsibly," said Megan Brinster of Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge. Shelby and another one were taken to the Ramapo-Bergen in Oakland. Brinster is executive director of the refuge. It is believed the person or persons responsible dumped the dogs in different locations all over North Jersey so no one would put two and two together. But thanks to a close-knit rescue community and social media, the word is out and the police have been notified. Caloway has learned there could still be two or three abandoned dogs that have not been rescued yet. Anyone who spots them should contact their local animal control or animal shelter. The shelter is now looking for someone with experience to adopt the dogs. Click here for more informatio n or email adoptlove rbari.

There is a new rage in Shepherd country! And apparently not many can. This does not stop them from trying tho! They come up with the most outlandish names and varieties for any of the above named breeds or varieties thereof. Even worse, it is fed by so called knowledge of one time Malinois or DS owners that know it all because they own that special type of dog that represents the entire breed. So if they say it is so, you had better take it as scripture or you will be shamed by them in an attempt to make you look bad or ignorant. Yet they do not see that in their own lack of knowledge, and their too soon spoken words of ignorance as they call knowledgeable people fools, that they themselves look stupid, even tho the ones with the knowledge and information are in fact trying to help, or educate. Now I am not going to say I am all knowledgeable when it comes to the Malinois, Dutch Shepherd and or crosses from both… But I do have a small understand of the how and what, the why and when and where. To then witness people undermine and destroy everything both breeds in their pure and cross bred varieties represent is just a slap in the face to many a breed lover. I will say upfront that my knowledge of the GSD is minimal at best when it comes to bloodlines. I have never had much interest for the breed or working them as they are just not my cup of coffee so to speak. For working purposes I just do not find them as being what is needed in a good dog. Let me mention this up front. There are no such breeds as: Malinherd Malinshep Shepinois These are names invented by ignorant breeders in order to get paid when they breed mixes and crosses. And these names are created to look special and interesting and people are stupidly and sadly enough falling for the hype that it creates. Bred for confirmation purposes and sometimes used in several sporting venues. Cross bred with either the Dutch Shepherd or xDutch Shepherd, or comes from cross bred bloodlines. Bred purely for working purposes, conformation is not important. Form follows function in these cases. Litters from cross bred parents can contain both fawn and brindle pups. Heinz 57 meaning as many variations possible within the mixed Malinois. There are not many Purebred Dutch Shepherds in the US and most that are designated as such are in fact xDutch Shepherds from cross bred lines. They are imported from the Netherlands but somewhere halfway across the ocean, the x eating fairy comes along and the dog enters the US as a Purebred Dutch Shepherd. Cross bred with either the Malinois or xMalinois, or comes from cross bred bloodlines. Heinz 57 meaning as many variations possible within the mixed Dutch Shepherd. Has been losing ground steadily over the years due to irresponsible breeding. The German Shepherd however is not used often for cross breeding with the 2 other shepherd breeds. Although it was more common practice decades ago, today the quality is such that cross breeding occurs almost only between Malinois and Dutch Shepherds and their cross bred family. Heinz 57 meaning as many variations possible within the mixed German Shepherd. Crossbreeding, why? For over years in europe and more specifically the Netherlands and Belgium, crossbreeding has been done with purpose and view. To provide the better working dog. Both groups have a love for the working quality and never saw much use for conformation in the working breed. They value strength, character, health and workability and their breeding lines have proven themselves time and again to be high quality. There is a reason that the breeds are to be found worldwide, in any venue or real life scenario thinkable. Workability trumps conformation! Make no mistake in thinking that just because these shepherds are cross bred their lineage is unknown. Each breeder and or owner of a cross bred Shepherd is up to date on the bloodlines and knows where his dog came from, and why it was bred. Well, there you have it. The breed designations and a small bit of history, wrapped up in a tiny rant of sorts. Regards, Alice Mckenzie. This video highlights how critically important it is to provide a working protection dog breed with appropriate training and socialization so the dog knows the difference between a friendly person or animal and a potentially dangerous situation. In other words, the Dutch Shepherd is thought to not be a manmade dog breed. In an age where dogs come in literally every shape and size, finding a natural dog breed is quite rare. It also means many see a strong resemblance between the Dutch Shepherd and the wild wolf, which tends to be the case when there has been less human manipulation of the breed genome. Dutch Shepherds were found in rural areas and were then developed further to work as all-purpose herding, livestock guarding, and droving dog. The breed was first noticed in The Netherlands, which is where the dog gets their breed name. The German Shepherd was always intended to be the perfect herding and livestock guarding dog. The breed founder, a former German cavalry officer named Captain Max von Stephanitz, was said to have crossed the first German Shepherds with wild wolves to obtain his ideal dog. Today, German Shepherds are second only to the Belgian Malinois as the breed of choice for K-9, military, police, and private protection and security work. This bodes well for any hybrid breeding program built on these two breed lines. Dutch Shepherd personality and temperament Dutch Shepherds are herding dogs through and through. Dutch Shepherds also have a strong prey drive and chase instinct, which means if your family already includes other small prey-type family pets, they may not be safe with a Dutch Shepherd in the house. Overall, Dutch Shepherds are lively, smart and fun-loving, but can be somewhat stubborn, too. This is common with herding dogs that have been bred to work independently from their people. Since a Dutch Shepherd will always have a mind of their own, it will be up to you to train and socialize your dog to behave in appropriate ways for daily life in a family and local neighborhood. German Shepherd personality and temperament The German Shepherd dog breed would not be as popular as this dog is without some pretty stellar personality and temperament traits. However, the GSD, as fans of the breed call them, can also be a real handful, especially in puppyhood. These dogs are also herding dogs, which means your German Shepherd is going to herd you, your kids, your pets, and anyone else they regard as under their care and protection. Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd mix personality and temperament Overall, the Dutch Shepherd and the German Shepherd dog breeds are actually quite similar in their temperament and personality. Both dog breeds need a similar type and level of early and ongoing socialization and training to temper their protective and herding instincts and socialize well into a family and community. Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd Mix: Size, Height, and Weight One of the big concerns many people have when they are trying to decide on a dog breed is size. How big will your Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd dog grow up to be? How tall will your dog be? Will you be able to find space for a big dog bed, travel crate, food, and toys? Dutch Shepherd size, height, and weight According to the North American Dutch Shepherd Rescue charity, these dogs typically weigh between 55 and 80 pounds and stand between 23 and 26 inches tall paw pads to shoulders. Females are generally slightly shorter and smaller than males in adulthood. German Shepherd size, height, and weight According to Vetstreet , the German Shepherd dog typically weighs between 50 and 90 pounds and stands 22 to 26 inches tall from paw pads to shoulder tops. Here again, females are typically but not always slightly shorter and leaner than males in adulthood. Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd size, height, and weight Dutch Shepherds and German Shepherds are quite similar in height, weight, and overall build and size. These dogs are built to stay constantly on the move, herding and moving groups of livestock and keeping watch while navigating difficult terrain. Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd Mix: Training and Exercise Needs When you choose a large, powerful dog like the Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd mix, you also take on the great responsibility of helping to train and socialize your dog to live in a family and community. Your dog will need to learn from you how to tell the difference between a friend and a threat. Your dog will also rely on you to get their daily activity and exercise needs met. Dutch Shepherd training and exercise needs The Dutch Shepherd is smart, athletic, and energetic. However, as Precision K-9 Training points out, these same traits mean that you should never ever use negative or punishment-based training methods with a Dutch Shepherd. A Dutch Shepherd dog will be smart enough to quickly learn new skills provided they are taught in a positive, affirming, rewards-based framework. Dutch Shepherds can be destructive if they are neglected, isolated from their human family, or too often left alone. These dogs want to be with their people all the time and need lots of attention to stay healthy and happy. Training must be positive and affirming — and it must also be frequent, early, and ongoing. A German Shepherd needs to learn early in life how to manage their inbuilt chase and protection instincts. Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd training and exercise needs The Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd mix dog is going to be a high-intensity companion canine to own and care for. Your dog will need plenty of attention, play, and activity every single day. If you leave a Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd alone, you are likely to come home to a big mess made by a bored, lonely pup. So it is important to consider whether your time and lifestyle will permit making your dog the center of your world. Some people are quite allergic to protein dander found on the skin and in the saliva and urine of dogs, which can make learning about shedding even more important. In this section, we take a look at whether, how much, and how often a Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd dog might shed. Dutch Shepherd coat care, shedding, and grooming The Dutch Shepherd has the traditional double layer working dog coat that nearly all working dog breeds have. In puppyhood, a Dutch Shepherd will have a single layer puppy coat. Around the age of six months, the puppy coat will start to shed out and the adult double layer coat will begin to grow in, which may take another six months to conclude. During this time, you will see a lot of shedding, and this will be something to get used to because Dutch Shepherds shed both year-round and seasonally. To further complicate matters, Dutch Shepherds are bred in three coat types: short hair, long hair, and rough hair. Each coat type has different brushing and grooming needs. The short hair is the easiest coat type to care for and the least prone to tangles and mats. To best predict the amount of brushing, grooming, shedding and overall coat care your puppy might need in adulthood, it is important to find out as much as possible about the coat type of the Dutch Shepherd parent dog. German Shepherd coat care, shedding, and grooming German Shepherd dogs have the traditional double layer working dog coat. The outer layer is medium length and the inner layer is shorter and very thick. During coat blows, you may want to brush daily. Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd mix coat care, shedding, and grooming As you can see, here is one of the areas of greatest uncertainty when you choose a Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd mix dog. Either way, however, you can look forward to lots of year-round and seasonal shedding. Unfortunately, as you will notice in this section, the German Shepherd has an all-too-short life expectancy. Since both dogs are prone to similar joint issues, it is important to take your time and do your research to pick the healthiest, sturdiest puppy. However, the American Dutch Shepherd Association highlights the following known possible genetic health issues you need to be aware of: Hip dysplasia.

Confidence Protectiveness Husky Golden Retrievers are inclined to enjoy their alone time. They are not prone to having separation anxiety. However, it is not recommended to leave them alone for too long. You could find them trying to escape the house. Because of their nature, it is advisable to have this pet when you have a large backyard. This mixed puppy is known to be friendly and gentle to the family members. They usually get along with all the members and are affectionate to children too. They can be fans of cuddling. Golden Retriever Crossed with Husky puppies can be excellent watchdogs. With proper training and sufficient bonding with their owners, they are obedient and alert to suspicious people. They are quite protective of the family members when there is a threatening situation. Husky Mixed with Golden Retriever pups tends to have independent thinking. This trait comes from their Husky origin. At times, they may come off as obnoxious and act on their volition. They may be disobedient to your commands. When dealing with this behavior, it is crucial to remember that you need patience in caring for them. This mixed breed dog has a strong prey drive. They tend to chase smaller creatures. Be sure to keep an eye on other small animals such as cats and squirrels. Backyard Breeders Rescue Shelters Professional Breeders If you will spend money, I highly advise buying from professional breeders among these options. These people take good care of the dogs and prevent inbreeding to guarantee minimal health problems. Reliable breeders can provide you with results of genetic testing for the parent dogs and offspring, as well as records of vaccination and other pertinent documents. They also provide health clearances for the parent dogs. However, before buying from professional breeders, you can also consider visiting your local shelters to check if there is an available Golden Retriever Husky puppy and if you can adopt it. There are also rescue-centers that are breed-specific and non-profit. However, it is remarkable that the mixed breed of Golden Retriever and Husky do not shed much, and it is considered part of the low shedders. Aside from the aesthetic purpose of grooming, there are a lot more reasons to accomplish this activity. Developing a more intimate relationship Maintaining the cleanliness and physical health Bringing out the natural oil on the coat Avoid issues like bug infestations Checking anomalies and possible health problems Here is a list of the tools and equipment you will need for grooming this pup: Slicker Brush Cotton Ball Nail Clipper A regular grooming routine is essential in keeping the shiny and healthy coat of your Husky Golden Retriever Mix puppy. A fundamental step in the grooming routine is regular brushing using a slicker brush. Other steps include giving a bath, trimming the nails, and cleaning its ears. The use of a slicker brush over a pin brush is advisable due to its purpose of untangling mats or knots in the fur. Also, it helps in removing debris and loose hair. It can run through the thick layers of the double coat and facilitate effective grooming. Another advantage of this brush is its massaging quality since it has long pins. Massaging the skin of your pup will stimulate the production of essential oils for moisturizing the coat. Also, this will increase the blood circulation and promote health for the dog. This activity should be done at least once a week to decrease the amount of shedding and avoid matting of fur. In brushing the whole coat, you need to brush places of matting and thicker fur more diligently. If your dog has a collar, remove it when brushing the coat, and do not leave out the neck area unkempt. Cutting matted fur should only be done when you cannot brush out the mat. The next step is bathing your pup, especially when it is smelly and dirty. Some people proceed to trim the coat of the puppy before bathing it. It is your discretion if you will follow the steps to the dot. After lathering with shampoo and then rinsing the coat, you can opt to blow-dry the coat. The frequency of bathing will also depend on your decision, based on the smell and sanitary condition of the Golden Retriever Crossed with Husky puppy. After the bath, you will proceed to brush the coat again. Then, you will initiate the trimming process. In trimming, you should avoid trimming the entire coat. The double coat of your puppy functions as an insulation against the fluctuating weather. It also traps warm air on a cold day and cool air on a hot day. Usually, groomers use clippers for this process. However, you may opt to use thinning shears for cutting parts of the coat. You need to trim the fuzzy hair growth around the edges cleanly. You will trim the fur between the toes next. For cracked dog pads, you can apply Vaseline as a regimen. In trimming the legs, you will cut the unkempt fur to achieve symmetry and balance. The fur on the front of the legs is shorter than that on the back. The hair on the back of the legs should flare out slightly behind the dog. Similar with the legs, trimming the chest and neck should aim to remove the unkempt fur. It should be noted that you will move the thinning shears with the direction of hair growth. After the neck and chest areas, you will trim the fur around the ears. This step will help fend off parasites. Lastly, you will trim the tail. For this step, you will trim the length by tapering the tail, starting from the base to the tip. Part of the grooming process is checking for wax buildup in the ears and signs of an ear infection. You can clean their ears with a cotton ball and a dog-specific ear solution. You should never use a cotton swab for their ears. You can also use a cotton ball with mineral oil or microfiber cloth with mineral oil to remove debris from the eyes. The frequency of this activity depends on the rate of its toenail growth. Long names may break, and cause irregular gait and infection. If you do not have this much time in your hands, you should schedule appointments with trustworthy groomers around your neighborhood. Husky Mixed with Golden Retriever Puppies Health Problems Most of the Husky mixed with Golden Retriever dogs are free of fatal and congenital diseases, primarily because of their enlarged gene pool. Their average life span is 10 to 13 years. One condition you need to prevent is heat stroke. Since this breed has a dense and double coat, they do not tolerate heat as much as they tolerate cold weather. You should protect your puppy from overexposure to the sun and keep it well hydrated. Even if there is a reduced risk for the usual health conditions from the parent breeds, it is important to know the possible diseases your puppy may acquire, especially when it gets older. One these health problems is a cataract, an opacity of the eye lens. When your dog acquires this disease, its eyes will appear cloudy. One of the possible health problems is hip or elbow dysplasia. This is an inheritable disease wherein the thighbone does not attach properly with the hip joint. Elbow dysplasia involves joint laxity due to different growth rates of the bones of the elbow. Vaccinations are weapons against fatal diseases. There is a generally accepted guideline of puppy vaccination. Some of the recommended vaccinations are measles, rabies, and DHPP which is the combination of vaccines for distemper, adenovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. By knowing the possible serious health issues of this mixed pup, you can be more watchful when your pup manifests some warning signs related to these possible conditions. Golden Retriever Mixed with Husky Food Requirements The following factors determine the amount of food you will give to your Golden Retriever mixed with Husky puppy: Age—choose a chow that is age-appropriate; our essential guides to the best puppy food brands and the best senior dry dog food will help you find the right one! Size—depending on the size, some pups will thrive on the best dry dog food for small dogs whereas others will be better off with the best large breed dry dog food Metabolism Level of activity The kind of food recommended for this mixed breed is dry food, preferably one of the brands featured in our best dry dog food guide. Commonly, medium to large dogs is given three to four cups of nutritious dog food, divided into two meals. Just like with human food, there are brands you should avoid at any cost. For your convenience, we singled out some of the worst dry dog food brands. Meanwhile, Golden Retrievers have a big appetite and are at risk for obesity. This classification means that you should provide them with lots of mental and physical stimulation. The duration of physical activity would be enough to maintain its weight and protect them from lifestyle diseases. I recommend walking, running, playing with Frisbee or tennis ball for your Golden Retriever Crossed with Husky puppy. If the Golden Retriever Husky mix puppy does not get enough physical and mental stimulation, it may exhibit behavioral problems. These problems include inappropriate barking, chewing, and causing property destruction. This breed is intelligent and fast learners. However, their independent side may antagonize your directions if training started late. An effective way to facilitate the training is by initially having short training sessions. To avoid possible destructive behavior that can be traced to their Husky origin, you should employ obedience training and leash training. You need to assert yourself as the leader by having consistency and clarity. A reliable way to do this task is making the puppy wait for its food. This act will establish your role as the provider and keeper of all the resources, such as the treats, food, toys, and other assets. During training, it is possible to encounter mischief and fluctuations in concentration. A way to prevent this situation is keeping the sessions short. However, you should be cautious and never leave your child and the dog alone. This action could aggravate and provoke the pet. Aside from the appropriate training for the dog, you should teach your child to avoid disturbing or playing with the pup when it is eating or sleeping. Golden Retriever mixed with Husky pups are affectionate to families. They have an innate loyal character, and they enjoy being around people. This trait is probably attributable to its Golden Retriever parent. Because they are a cross between two dog breeds, the Goberian can have any mix of characteristics from the parent breeds. They may take on more traits of one parent or have a combination of both. Goberians are a relatively new designer dog breed that tends to be friendly, affectionate, and gentle. Because they are a mixed dog breed, they are not recognized by the American Kennel Club. They tend to have a gentle and loyal nature. Goberians tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can get along with other pets in the house, but may need to be introduced and socialized for it if they inherit the Siberian Husky prey drive. The Goberian is a moderately adaptable dog breed. Because of their energy, they are best suited for larger homes with a securely fenced-in yard where they can run. They can adapt to apartment living if they get enough exercise and attention. They tend to prefer cooler climates, but they do well in just about any climate. As with any dog breed, they are sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Despite the occasional independent streak, a Goberian thrives on affection and loves to be near their families. Plus, they tend to be easily bored, so they do not tend to do well with long periods of alone time. As with any hybrid dog breed, a Goberian can inherit all, a mix, or none of the potential health problems common to the parent breeds. Talking to the breeder about the genetic history of both of the parents and asking to see any health clearances can help ease potential concerns you may have. In general, the Goberian is intelligent and learns quickly, but the overall trainability of them will vary. They can be moderately easy to train or more difficult depending on the mix of characteristics from the two parent breeds. If the Goberian puppy takes more after their Golden Retriever parent, they will be easier to train and eager to please you. However, if they take after their Siberian Husky parent, they will be more difficult to train as they will be more stubborn and independent. Regardless, you will want to plan for puppy training classes, especially if you are a first-time dog owner. Plus, the classes offer opportunities for early socialization, which is also important. Because the Goberian is a mixed dog breed, their coat can come in a variety of coat colors. Their coat tends to be long and dense and may be straight or slightly wavy. They can range from light to moderate shedding year-round and may have two heavier shedding sessions as the seasons change. Bathing is an occasional requirement as needed and many Goberians only need a bath every months. Trimming nails on a monthly basis is usually sufficient. You want to make sure their ears are not trapping moisture, dirt, or debris that could lead to an ear infection. Thankfully, you can help prevent dental disease in your dog by implementing a good dental care plan. You can also supplement your efforts with vet-approved dental hygiene treats and chews, and even a specially-formulated dental care diet. The Goberian is a high-energy dog breed. They require a lot of daily exercise and mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. In addition to daily walks and some playtime, your Goberian is likely to enjoy running with you, going on a hike , and maybe even swimming. A fully-grown Goberian usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Goberian generally lives years. Goberian Puppies for Sale Thanks for visiting our Goberian page! Sometimes called a Bull-Pug, the Miniature Bulldog is a cross between an English Bulldog and a Pug, Puggle, or French Bulldog to create a smaller size bulldog that will be perfect for your family. English Bulldogs were bred to bait, guard, and control bulls while Pugs have been companions to royals since about BC. They are peaceful and get along well with animals and people. You may find that some males are territorial or try to display dominance or aggression toward other male dogs. By nature, Bulldogs may occasionally display overprotective behaviors, but early training and socialization can help you manage it. They can be stubborn and slow during training, but they retain what they learn well. It frequently has a shortened muzzle like both parent breeds, which can sometimes lead to difficulty breathing especially in extreme temperatures. Eyes are dark, large, and round, and ears are thin and small and hang in a rose or button configuration. Mini Bulldogs have sleek and short, smooth and glossy coats that shed moderately but almost never tangle or mat. Black and fawn is the most common coloration, but you can also see brindle, red, and white. Typically this breed will be about 15 inches tall and weigh 15 to 45 pounds. They are not likely to ask for walks, and you may even find your pup to be lazy! But some daily exercise is crucial to keep these naturally thick-set dogs from becoming obese. Obesity runs in both parent breeds, so Mini Bulldogs are especially prone to putting on unhealthy weight. We recommend 30 minutes of activity per day and about 2 miles walking per week. Take care when exercising because their shortened muzzle makes them particularly sensitive to extreme temperatures. Up to date on shots and deworming. They will serves as perfect doggies in your home with kids and will easily get along to their new environment. Life Span Did You Know? Although these dogs are small, they are known to be full of love and affection, especially for their favorite humans. Although the American Kennel Club does not recognize them, they are recognized by other canine registries. They thrive on being with their favorite humans and enjoy nothing more than spending time with them. As long as they are properly socialized, their calm nature and sweet disposition mean they tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they are likely to bark to alert you of strangers, they also tend to be open to meeting new people and warm up quickly once introduced. The Mini Bulldog is a highly adaptable dog. They do well in apartments as well as larger homes with or without yards. They do best in moderate climates as they are very sensitive to heat and need some winter dog products to stay warm in the cold as well. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Miniature Bulldog include cherry eye, hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and luxating patella. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Since both parents are brachycephalic, you can expect a Mini Bulldog to be a flat-faced, snub-nosed breed as well. This can contribute to difficulties breathing and regulating temperature, so you need to be careful about heat and overexertion with these dogs. The Miniature Bulldog is eager to please and will strive to get attention and praise from their families. Although they can have a little bit of a stubborn streak at times, they still tend to be a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Not only do they help reinforce training and keep it consistent, but they are also great opportunities to continue to socialize your puppy. Mini Bulldogs have short, dense coats that shed a low to moderate amount year-round. Brushing their coat weekly and the occasional bath is usually enough to keep their coat healthy and looking great. In addition to standard dog grooming brushes for this coat type, a rubber mitt can be a good tool to have on hand for easily removing excess fur. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long and causing issues. Weekly ear checks and carefully cleaning ears as needed can help prevent ear infections. Although their big, round eyes are adorable, they are also prone to damage from debris and can be sensitive. As a small dog breed, the Miniature Bulldog is more prone to developing dental disease. Daily brushing plus cleanings at the vet when needed are a good start. Although they will be energetic when they play, the Miniature Bulldog can also be one of the laziest dog breeds if you let them. Generally, they are happy to relax and cuddle with you, especially if there is food involved. Daily walks plus some playtime are usually enough for this dog. If they are interested in more activity or you need to encourage them to move more, there are safe ways to exercise flat-faced dogs that will let you give them the activity they need without overheating them. A fully-grown Mini Bulldog usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. Miniature Bulldogs generally live for years on average. Featured Miniature Bulldog Article. When you pick up a Mini Bulldog puppy make sure you always put one hand on your Mini Bulldog puppies bottom between the back legs and one hand on the his or her chest between the front. This allows you to support the Mini Bulldog puppy from both sides. This can cause a dislocating effect in the shoulder area, puts extra stress on the airways and is not good for the spine. Like all babies, he needs lots and lots of love and cuddling, lots of sleep, lots of good, quality nourishing food and still more love and cuddling. Moving to a new home, leaving his family and the only humans he has ever really known can be a little scary for the Mini English Bulldog puppy, so try to make the move as easy as possible for your Mini English Bulldog. For the first couple weeks, try to establish a good routine for him. Make it simple and relaxed at first so that your baby Mini Bulldog feels secure in the new environment. Your Mini English Bulldog Puppy will need a lot of guidance and direction from you during this transition so take advantage of this experience to bond with him. This will allow your Mini Bulldog to feel comfortable with you and develop his trust for you. Follow the breeders routine for feeding your Mini Bulldog puppy. The same times, same amount, same brand of food, same supplements. Feed your new Mini Bulldog child in the same place for each meal. Be sure your Mini Bulldog puppy has his own special area for his bed. Give your new Mini Bulldog lots and lots of cuddling, petting and attention. Be careful not to let your Mini English Bulldog puppy play so long and hard that he becomes exhausted. Click here for more information on Naming your English Bulldog. Substitute a small amount of the old food with the new and slowly increase the ratio of new to old until the old food is completely replaced with the new. And be careful with slippery surfaces such as hard wood floors, tile or linoleum. Mini Bulldogs are born with joints that are naturally looser than, say, a German Shepherd, and slipping on the floor or in the bath tub can be hard on the joints. If you have these kinds of floors you might consider area rugs to provide traction and a bath mat when bathing. Mini Bulldog bedding does not need to be as elaborate and expensive as it can be. Usually a common cotton rug or blanket in his crate will due nicely. They are fairly cheap and easy to wash and dry. Artificial sheepskin rugs are available at most pet stores and also wash and dry easily. The main thing is that your Mini English Bulldog likes it and you like it. Avoid wicker dog beds because most Mini Bulldogs love to tear these to pieces and could choke on or swallow the pieces. We recommend using a wire crate for your Mini Bulldog puppy. Mini English Bulldogs actually love having their own private retreat to go to when they want to be left alone. The ventilation in wire crates is much better than most plastic ones. A harness can be confusing for an Mini Bulldog puppy when they are just learning to follow your tugs. A collar tugs on one area in one direction whereas a harness tugs their entire chest and shoulder area making it hard for your Mini Bulldog pup to tell what you want him to do. We recommend using a collar while training your puppy but after he is well trained a harness is fine. Find one that fits comfortably in your hand. A must for long walks and road trips. Mini Bulldogs can tear the rawhide off and choke on it. Most Mini Bulldog puppies will love a simple knotted sock to shake and play tug-of-war with you. Many Mini English Bulldog puppies love chasing a ball. And if you get toys with eyes or buttons on them be sure to tear them of as your Mini Bulldog puppy can choke on these. It is best to feed a month old puppy 2 or 3 times a day. Be careful not to overfeed. Obesity can be a serious health threat to your bully. But we stress that any of these dog food brands can change their ingredients and ways of processing for the better or worse at any time. So educate yourself on the different brands and check the labels periodically for any changes. Avoid food with lots of preservatives and fillers. And never feed an Mini English Bulldog anything with soybeans or soybean oils as these are very difficult for Mini English Bulldogs to digest. Maybe 2 when your Mini Bulldog is an adult. Corn oil or canola oil teaspoons a day are great for the coat and skin. No soybean oil! Or Ester C Vit C tablets. Vit C in this natural form is more readily absorbed by the body. So as with any dog, training your Miniature Bulldog will require time, patience and consistency. The key to good training is an understanding of how a dog thinks. All dogs, including Mini bulldogs, are thought to be descendants of the wolf. Yes, the resemblance to your Mini English Bulldog is nil. But remember this important fact: like all dogs, your Mini Bulldog is a pack animal. At first this description may sound a little savage and unpalatable. But this pack instinct is precisely why dogs wedge themselves so perfectly into our families. They want to belong — to please. When a dog joins a family, even a family of one, a pack is formed. Does he steal food or run away from his owner? Does he bark uncontrollably at guests? These behaviors may indicate that the dog is confused as to his position in the pack. He may have difficulty recognizing his owner as the leader of the pack therefore the dog could attempt to assume the role himself. It is very important to training that you assert yourself as the leader early on. Of course, Mini English Bulldogs, just like people, have their own individual personalities. One may just be more willing to accept your correction than another. I know, I know. So with that in mind… Potty Training your Mini Bulldog: When potty training your Mini English Bulldog puppy, you must first learn to watch for the signs sniffing, circling etc. Watch your Miniature English Bulldog puppy until he goes, then remove him from the area as soon as it is finished; that way your Mini Bulldog learns quickly the reason for these trips. Praise for correct action works much better than punishment for mistakes. Click here for more information on House Training your English Bulldog. Start with a lightweight nylon or leather collar and lead. Begin by just holding the collar and letting your Mini Bulldog puppy lead you. Never drag or pull your Mini English Bulldog puppy around. You want this to be an enjoyable experience for your new Mini Bulldog puppy. You can do a much better job grooming your Mini Bulldog at home and it will be safer for your Mini Bulldog. The main areas of concern are the coat, the nails, the ears and of course those cute, trademark wrinkles. We will start with brushing. Brushing: Brushing is key to a healthy, shiny coat. Brush at least 3 times a week with any good dog brush that fits your hand comfortably. Start at the back and move forward. Then brush from front to back. Your aim in brushing is to remove dead hair and to evenly distribute natural body oils. Most Miniature Bulldog owners only bathe their bullies when they obviously need it. But when it is time for a bath you will need to gather up everything you will need including: shampoo, Q tips, cotton balls, wash cloth and towel. Choosing a shampoo for your Miniature English Bulldog is much like choosing one for yourself. Then thoroughly wet your Mini Bulldog from just behind the ears to his tail being sure to get the underside also. Apply the shampoo and work it in thoroughly everywhere including between the toes, under the tail and the genital area. Use a washcloth with shampoo to clean his face and wrinkles. Now rinse thoroughly so that every bit of shampoo is off your Mini Bulldog. Once a week for adult Mini English Bulldogs. If the nails get too long it can cause his toes to spread out unnaturally and make the foot deformed. Use a dremmel tool or dog nail clippers. Cut or grind just to the curve of the nail. Wrinkles: Wrinkle care is very important for an Mini English Bulldog. Mini Bulldogs vary in how often they need wrinkle cleaning but a good rule is at least twice a week. Use a wet cloth with shampoo to clean them then dry thoroughly. Baby wipes with aloe and lanolin are great for on-the-go wrinkle cleaning. Upload Image. They were created during the s by reproducers who were hoping to make a canine like the English Bulldog, however in a more modest , better bundle. A scaled down Bulldog and a toy bulldog are frequently mistaken for the smaller than normal English Bulldog. For the wellbeing of correlation: Miniature English Bulldog Physical Characteristics The small scale English Bulldog has a typical load of 15 to 30 pounds and can contain some Pug or Boston Terrier in its genealogy, contingent upon the raiser. The process was thorough which I appreciated. The volunteers and organization are extremely passionate about their rescue dogs and their well being. We are so grateful for our fur babies and for Pughearts! We live out of state and Pug Hearts went above and beyond to come and inspect our home. Every step of the way all the volunteers I worked with were kind and quick to answer all my many questions through the adoption process. When I flew to Houston to meet the pug we were hoping to adopt, my flight was significantly delayed and our pug's foster mom took the next day off just so I could come meet with her! Our pug came to us in great health, fully checked by the Pug Hearts vet team, with detailed vet records for her continued care. We continue to stay in touch with the volunteers and our Pug's foster mom sending updates and sharing stories, Not only did we add the sweetest pug girl to our family, we feel like we came away with new friends! We will always adopt from Pug Hearts from now on and highly recommend them for your family too! Everyone we spoke with and worked with was very nice and answered all of our questions quickly. Karen was awesome about giving us all the information we needed and making sure our pup was all set to travel back from Houston. We would recommend Pug Hearts for anyone looking to help find a pug a forever home! I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this rescue! Hands-down the best rescue in the entire world!! All Pudgy Pug puppies are well cared for, fully socialized, and loved. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time. Harmony Pugs is a preservation breeder that aims to improve the breed and breed to the AKC standard. They plan each breed carefully and raised as part of a family. They have Pugs, along with other breeds and other pets. They are known for their exceptional care for their pets as well as their knowledge and professionalism, which is why they are one of the most popular local breeders in the area. One of the best things about this reputable breeder is that they have an area for playtime with your new pet. You can have some fun time with your pet before you get to take them home! Research and learn as much as you can about them. Not all Pugs are created equal—you can find some that are show quality, while others may not be. Finally, have a bit more patience. The process of finding a Pug breeder takes time. Moreover, it will take you months before you get to bring home your puppy, so exercise patience and everything will go smoothly. Now, how do you find a Pug breeder in Texas? You can ask them to point you to a breeder. There are also local Facebook groups you can join that will help you find the right breeder for you. This means these puppies are registered with the AKC, which guarantees you that you will get the best one you can take home with you. When you find a breeder, you need to ask the right questions. The first question you need to ask is their requirements of people who want to get a Pug. You should also ask if you can meet the parents. Hence, they should let you meet them. Seeing the parents will give you an idea of what the pup will be like. Speaking of parents, you should also ask them if health tests have been performed on the parents to ensure both are healthy and free of any genetic disease that is common to Pugs. Another important question you should ask is their experience with the breed and how long have they been doing it for. You should also ask how they socialize their puppies. Pugs, and other breeds, should be well-socialized in a home environment. That way, they can adjust easily in your home when you take them home. The breeder should also provide you with a health guarantee and contract. This includes updated vaccinations and a health guarantee and contracts for you to sign. Final Words… By following these tips, you can avoid getting a Pug from puppy mills where the dogs are not taken care of properly. Only trust a reliable breeder to ensure that the Pug you will get has excellent Pug parents as well. Are you ready to have a Pug as part of your family? When your dog.Jumps on other people: Ask a family member or friend to assist with training. Your assistant must be someone your dog likes and wants to greet. Your dog should never be forced to greet someone who scares them. Give your dog the "sit" command. This exercise assumes your dog already knows how to "sit. If your dog stands up, the greeter immediately turns and walks away. Ask your dog to "sit" and have the greeter approach again. Keep repeating until your dog remains seated as the greeter approaches. If your dog does remain seated, the greeter can give your dog a treat as a reward. When you encounter someone while out walking your dog, you must manage the situation and train your dog at the same time: Stop the person from approaching by telling them you don't want your dog to jump. Hand the person a treat or get a treat ready in your hand to reward your pup for good behavior. Ask your dog to "sit. Some people will tell you they don't mind if your dog jumps on them, especially if your dog is small and fluffy or a puppy. But you should mind. Remember you need to be consistent in training. If you don't want your dog to jump on people, stick to your training. If someone is encouraging jumping, you can simply say no thank you when they want to greet your dog. Jumps on you when you come in the door: Keep greetings quiet and low-key. If your dog jumps on you, ignore them. Turn and go out the door. Try again. You may have to come in and go out dozens of times before your dog learns they only gets your attention when they keep all four feet on the floor. Jumps on you when you're sitting: If you are sitting and your dog jumps up on you, stand up. Don't talk to your dog or push them away. Just ignore them until all four feet are on the ground. Also of interest:. Digital Marketing Do you have a dog that likes to jump on you or everyone? Yes, literally everyone. Not only can it be a little embarrassing, but it can also be a hazard when it comes to a large dog like GSDs — they can knock someone off unintentionally. Jumping is a behavior that is usually a result of excitement and inadequate training in dogs. Excitement management, leash training, rewarding, and reinforcement will stop your dog from jumping on people over time. Mind you, your GSD will not outgrow jumping or any other unwanted behavior if not properly trained to. But the good news is that they are certainly smart enough to learn the right behavior — and probably much quicker than other breeds. Be calm every time you walked in the door. Use a leash to prevent them from jumping. Watch the video below to learn exactly how. Keep treats handy to reward your dog for not jumping. Dismiss bad behavior by ignoring your dog and calmly stepping away. GSDs are high-energy breeds. This can often translate to the excitement, especially when meeting people. This is what causes them to jump. Simply put, they are excited to see you. Jumping on greeting is not only a GSD trait, but all dogs that are energetic and generally happy will jump on you, your family, and your friends until they are trained not to. This might not seem to be a very important question when it comes to your GSD jumping on you, but it is. A play-driven GSD is much more likely to jump whenever they are overly excited. On the other hand, you will usually find your GSD jumps on you or someone else whenever there is food involved if they are food-driven. Figuring out which category your GSD falls in will help determine how you can fix the behavior. Important things to remember when training GSDs Before you start implementing any training with a GSD, it is important to understand a few things about the breed that you might not already be familiar with. Here are four good tips to remember for any training: They can very sensitive. If you are overly harsh, you could hurt their feelings which will slow down learning hugely. They are reward-driven. Food, praise, and play are all good ways to reward your GSD when they complete the task correctly. This will help reinforce good behavior. Stay patient. Any training can take some patience while your dog is learning, but luckily GSDs are incredibly intelligent so they should grasp it quickly. Be consistent. Consistency is hugely important. You need to keep up the training to cement good behavior. Otherwise, your GSD could go right back to jumping up. And at the end of the day, good training is only made up of two simple steps: The first is introducing and teaching the dog the desired behavior. In this case, it is teaching an excited GSD not to jump on you or anyone else. It is just like teaching them any other trick like sitting or staying. This is done through consistency and repetition. Ways to Manage Excitement: When you are coming home, try cracking the door open and waiting until your GSD has noticeably calmed down before entering. If they do not jump, reward them. If a guest is entering your home, let them enter while you have your GSD either on a leash or in a separate room. Again, wait until their excitement has died down, then allow them to slowly approach your guests. It is an excellent tool to keep excitement levels down and have a good amount of control over your GSD during greetings. As shown in the video above, the easiest way to do it is to step on the leash to limit the freedom for your dog to jump up. Jumping usually occurs when your GSD is right up next to the person they want to jump on. Having a leash on your dog lets you have full control when you want to guide him away from someone. If they seem to get too close to someone, you can always pull them back way before the jumping occurs. Make sense? There are a few different ways to reinforce good behavior depending on your GSD, but a good treat is an incredibly powerful tool usually. Use Positive Reinforcement Tools: Treats. Positive affirmation. This might seem like an amazing reward to us, but once your GSD associates a click with a job well done, they will love it. If your GSD is food-driven, they will likely become fixated on a treat in your hand if you present it. They also know that this will likely be given to them if they complete a behavior associated with treats. How to Use Treats as a Distraction? Keep a treat or two on your person when your GSD is likely to jump on someone. This is usually when you or a guest enters your home. Before your GSD even has the chance to jump, show the treat in a calm manner. Their attention should be so locked in on the treat that it overrides their desire to jump up in excitement. Making a clear distinction between play and normal behavior can help them tell when it is okay to jump. They will learn that this is the only time they can jump. Not that you are armed with 5 easy steps to control the jumping. All you have to do is to put them into practice and allow some time for your dog to learn the correct behavior. Nevertheless, there are things you might want to avoid doing when training your GSD not to jump on people. These can slow progress by reinforcing the wrong behavior or upsetting your GSD as they can be quite a sensitive breed. Use negative reinforcement. If your GSD does jump while training, simply ignore them and step away from them. Simply being ignored by their loved ones will send a clear message without hurting their feelings. Reward too quickly. It is crucial to wait until your GSD has demonstrated full control and kept all paws on the floor before you reward them. If you let your GSD get away with jumping and other bad behavior as a puppy or adolescent, they most likely will continue displaying that behavior. And while they may not grow out of jumping, they will grow in size, making it more dangerous for them to jump on people. Some dogs learn faster than others. With the right methods, you will expect to see the difference very quickly. All you need is patience and consistency. Good luck. Bon is a dog lover and a blogger. He loves spending time with dogs more than with humans. You will find him training himself for the next marathon when he is not writing. Excitement The most probable reason for the jumping is that it is excited. They do it because they want to greet you at the face and because their mother would feed them from the face as puppies and they would jump up. This type of jumping can be stopped with training using the methods in the section below. One method in particular that you should try would be to teach it to stay and sit and then to reward it for doing so. Attention German Shepherds were bred to work with their owners doing intensive tasks for hours daily. With that being the case, they need a lot of exercise to be properly stimulated. Their mothers would feed them from the mouth and they would have to jump up to get it. When things are wrong German Shepherds will often do things that are out of character so you should consider what might be wrong that is causing the jumping. Related post: Why is my German Shepherd afraid? How to get your German Shepherd to stop jumping There are a number of things that you can do to get your German Shepherd to stop jumping up at you that I will. Ignore If you think that your German Shepherd is doing the jumping because it is looking to get attention then one option for you to try would be to ignore the behavior. To do this you would simply leave the room when it starts jumping and then return when it is being well behaved and reward it for doing so. Redirect You could also try the redirect method where you tell your German Shepherd to do something different such as to sit, lay or to roll when it starts jumping and then to reward it for doing so. Train it not to You can also train it not to jump up at you by making it sit and stay when it gets excited. To do this do as follows: Get some treats that your German Shepherd likes Get it to sit. The idea is to reward it for staying sat and keeping its attention on you so you want to reward it before it has a chance to fail. Do the same as above but each time increase the duration that you get it to stay. When your German Shepherd is able to stay for over 15 seconds start to introduce distractions such as the squeaking of a toy. Start out with minor distractions such as simply showing it the toy and then build up to harder ones such as rolling the toy in front of it. If you would like some more tips on how to train your German Shepherd take a look at the German Shepherd training book on Amazon. You can watch the video below to see how it is done. An easy way to give it a lot of exercise without needing to put in a lot of effort would be to teach it how to play fetch. This is ideal since you can get your German Shepherd to do lots of running over a short time frame without needing to run a lot yourself. You could also try walking your German Shepherd with other dogs. This can give your German Shepherd a lot of exercise since it will burn a lot of energy by playing with the other dogs. Another way to give it extra exercise would be to teach it to swim. When dogs swim they have to move their legs around a lot which can wear them out quickly. There are apps that you can download now that will let you hire one, in your area, directly through the app. Be patient Teaching your German Shepherd not to jump up will likely take multiple training sessions. Over time not jumping will turn into a habit and the behavior will stop. By doing so you will be risking causing other bad behaviors such as distrust, destruction, not listening to you and even aggression. If you just teach it to stop jumping once and stop training it after that then it is likely that the jumping behavior will come back. Related questions Why does my German Shepherd jump up at strangers? Jumping up is how German Shepherds will often greet new people. To get this behavior to stop you should redirect its attention on to a training exercise such as sitting and staying that you have taught it in the past. If you want a happy and obedient German Shepherd, this is one of the best online dog training programs available right now. You can get the first month free using This link. Or maybe a friend has dropped by to say hello and your German Shepherd jumps on them immediately. Has either of these ever happened to you? Chances are they have. The good news is you can train your German Shepherd to stop jumping on you and others with a few different methods. To begin, though, you need to understand why your dog is jumping in the first place. You may have heard people say that your dog is jumping on you as a sign of dominance or as an attempt to be the one in charge. The plain and simple truth is that in most cases, your pet is just trying to say hello when you walk through the door. In all cases, though, jumping is a normal and natural behavior for dogs. While puppies jumping on you may be cute, the larger the dog gets and German Shepherds are on the bigger side! Not only does jumping on you result in dirty clothing or dropping items you were holding at the time, but when your German Shepherd jumps on someone, it could wind up accidentally hurting them. Children and older people can easily be knocked over by a large dog, plus anyone can end up with bruises or scratches. Unfortunately, in most instances, jumping is a behavior that we have encouraged, sometimes without realizing it. German Shepherds, like most dogs, are opportunistic. Luckily, you can do this with a bit of training and management. Use one of these step-by-step methods to teach your German Shepherd to stop jumping on you and others. Redirection How to Keep a German Shepherd Busy This is a general method to show your dog that jumping is unwanted and to redirect them to a new behavior. Step One: Ignore bad behavior. When your German Shepherd jumps on you, ignore it entirely by turning your back to it. The trick here is that everyone must abide by this rule of turning your back, so be sure everyone entering or living in your home is aware of it. Speak to them in a calm voice to avoid getting them excited again. When they do, give them a reward. Again, everyone should be doing this when you are in training mode, so your pet learns that not jumping applies to all. Image Credit: cvop, Pixabay 2. Paws on the Floor This method is for training your dog to keep four paws on the floor. Step One: Get a friend or family member to help you. Step Two: Keeping your dog on its leash, have the other person approach you. Before they reach you, toss a few treats on the floor in front of your dog. Step Four: Have the second person back off from the dog before it has finished the treats. Step Five: Repeat Step Four several times. After a few rounds, have the second person greet your dog for a longer amount of time and continue repeating until your pet is keeping its feet on the floor. Step Six: Once your pup is keeping all its paws on the ground, have the second person come and say hello before placing a treat down. Step One: Put your German Shepherd on a leash, then tie the leash to something sturdy, like a doorknob. Step Two: Staying far away from your dog, ask them to sit. When they do, you can start to go up to them. If they stand during the reward, go back to your starting point. Step Three: Repeat until your dog gets the hang of things. Step Four: Up the ante after your dog understands they need to sit by making your greetings more exciting. Step Five: After your dog has perfected the art of the sit greeting, grab another person and try this with them. By doing this, your dog will come to understand that sitting instead of jumping applies to all people as well. Conclusion Training your German Shepherd will take patience and time, but it can be done. Keeping them from jumping during training will also be required. It will take dedication, but you can do this by directing them away from your front door when someone visits, throwing toys or treats to them so they are occupied before a person enters your home, or keeping them on a leash. German Shepherds are very smart dogs , though, so they should soon learn not to jump on you or others. Featured Image Credit: cynoclub, Shutterstock Contents. By: David Codr Published Date: November 27, For this Omaha puppy training session we helped Stella, a 9 month-old German Shepherd puppy learn to stop jumping up on people who visit her home. Knowing that Stella liked to jump up on people at the door, I called ahead and had the guardian meet me outside. I wanted to give him some tips on stopping a dog from jumping up and show him an exercise that helps dogs learn to stop jumping on people on their own. After explaining how this exercise to stop dog jumping worked, I handed his wife my camera so she could film me in action. The thing I like about this trick to stop dogs from jumping on people is that the dog learns itself instead of the human micromanaging the dog. Each time it settles down or offers the behavior you want, you engage. This is a form of Operant Conditioning and any dog behavior expert will tell you it is a powerful way to rehabilitate any dog. We spent the rest of the session going over ways to add structure, how to act in a way the dogs sees and respects as a leader, how to introduce and enforce rules and some creative ways to exercise the dog. Stella picked it all up right away. To help the guardians remember all the other dog behavior tips I shared in this in home dog training session, we shot a roadmap to success video that you can check out below. Share this:.

We are blessed with good weather almost all year and our Golden's certainly enjoy the outdoor life! Our first Golden puppy, Samantha came home with us in and we have owned and loved Golden's ever since. Their easy going temperaments and versatile range of talents always amaze us! We train and encourage all of our Golden's to excel in what they love to do and many times they teach us a new trick or two! Every one has a very special place in our hearts and will forever. I enjoy teaching pups of any age but strongly believe in early training and socialization. Learning the skills to become a confident and well behaved puppy lays a good foundation for successful training in Therapy, Service, Agility, Obedience, Conformation, Field, Rally and much more! It is always our highest priority to choose the best breeding stock possible. We select from pedigrees that have consistently, over many generations produced longevity, excellent temperament and overall soundness. We take great care to choose pedigree lines that have been extensively researched. Talking to the breeders who have owned Golden's in the line we are considering greatly helps us reach our goal which is to produce overall quality, not quantity! Please take the time to do your homework before selecting a breeder. Enjoy our website and please come back often for updates!
