So, can a Goldendoodle be black and white? Yes, Goldendoodles can be black and white. Can a Goldendoodle be black and white? Yes, black and white Goldendoodles can be achieved. When Golden Retrievers and Poodles are bred together, the result is the intelligent, friendly, and family-friendly Goldendoodles. One of the main reasons people seek Goldendoodles is that they like their appearance. Goldendoodles have perfect coats, especially if the Poodle genes are more potent than that of the Golden Retriever. Goldendoodles can either have curly, wavy, or straight coats. Their curly coats are the most demanded in the market because of their hypoallergenic nature. So, how can one achieve a black and white Goldendoodle? In this case, breeders breed a Golden Retriever with a parti Poodle and hope that the genes pass through to the child. If the genes do pass through, the result is a rare and gorgeous-looking black and white Goldendoodle. How do you get black and white Goldendoodles? Of course, the breeding process must be calculated correctly. Normally, one has to breed a Golden Retriever with a regular Poodle to achieve a Goldendoodle. But, the color specifications need other calculations. For instance, breeders have resorted to breeding Golden Retrievers with parti Poodles. These colors can be any other color, sometimes black too. This is how this rare coat pattern is achieved. Parti Goldendoodles have been increasing in popularity and the demand for them is steadily growing in the United States. Pigmented patches are most typically found on the ears, around the eyes, back, and tail. Patches that contrast with the white coat are usually solid dark colors, like black in this case. By the way, I explain more about how these calculations work in my guide to the F1 Labradoodles here , so do check it out if you want to understand better how this whole thing works. The black and white coat pattern is among the most unique and rare Goldendoodle appearances. Breeders seek to breed white and black Goldendoodles to make sure they maximize their profit. Cream Cram Goldendoodle almost have white coats because of how light their coats are. Cream Goldendoodles are usually used for breeding multi-colored Goldendoodles like merle Goldendoodles or parti. They usually have light features. For example, a lighter shade of brown when it comes to their nose, lighter toenails, and lighter shades of eyes. I have a full guide on English cream Goldendoodles here that you should definitely check out to learn more about them. Apricot People love teddy bears; it is a fact that has been existent since the beginning of teddy bears. Their gorgeous coat can also get lighter with time. Red The red Goldendoodle, like the apricot Goldendoodle, is one of the most popular coat colors for Goldendoodles. Red Goldendoodles resemble teddy bears too. They are adorable. Goldendoodles are usually created by crossing a dark-colored poodle with a light-colored Golden Retriever. Brown Goldendoodles can result in multi-colored Goldendoodles when bred. That is because they contain the black recessive gene, which means they can be used to breed black and white Goldendoodles. Are Black and white Goldendoodles different from other doodles? Yes, black and white Goldendoodles are different when it comes to breeding and appearance. Goldendoodles are all unique in their own way. They can either have curly, wavy, or straight coats, which makes them all look different to some extent. So, as discussed, when a breeder is not trying to breed a specific size or color, they will breed a Golden Retriever with any Poodle. With Golden Retrievers, breeders also know what to expect because most Golden Retrievers look almost the same. Golden Retrievers can indeed have different colors, but all their colors are basically different shades of gold, and the look remains the same. However, with Poodles, one can get creative. Hence, they will look different since the black and white Goldendoodle is bred from a parti Goldendoodle. From a temperament point of view, all Goldendoodles are more or less the same. They are loving, friendly, gentle, affectionate, and laid-back. They are known for their good temperament and that is why they have been increasing in popularity. Please Note that we still advise you to adopt and not shop whenever possible. We believe all dogs are good dogs and that there really is no reason to pay thousands of dollars for a designer dog when you can get a perfectly good dog from your nearest shelter that will probably love you even more. Consider visiting your nearest shelter soon. What kind of doodle is black and white? Doodles are usually crossbreeds bred from two purebred dog breeds. Many doodles come in the black and white mix. Most doodles have curly and wavy coats, which is why they are so loved. They all look beautiful, and most of them are hypoallergenic. Thus, they are perfect for families with allergies. If being hypoallergenic matters to you, then you should definitely check out this guide to the hypoallergenic Goldendoodles here, where I compare how hypoallergenic each Goldendoodle generation is. Are Black and white Goldendoodles rare? Yes, black and white Goldendoodles are extremely rare. That is because the pattern is not achieved easily. To achieve this beautiful parti pattern, a parti Poodle needs to be bred with a Golden Retriever. If you want your Goldendoodle to have symmetrical black and white on their coat, your chance is even lower. It is not guaranteed that your Goldendoodle will have the exact amount of black and white in their coat. The reason that they are so rare is that the parti gene will not necessarily pass through. Only one of the two dogs needs to have the parti gene. Normally this is the Poodle. Consequently, breeders start breeding their parti poodle with the Golden Retriever and just hope for the best. Due to the fact that they are extremely rare, they are often more expensive and are demanded very highly. Related Questions Why is my Goldendoodle black? Do they exist together in one Goldendoodle, and if so, in what variations or patterns? Are they a common color pattern or more expensive than the other colors? I bet you are curious about the colors and patterns of a Goldendoodle too. Check out what I discovered. Can a Goldendoodle be black and white? While there are many colors of a Goldendoodle, black and white is less common and even more rare if perfect symmetry is desired. Goldendoodles come in a wide range of colors from their hybrid background that consists of two distinct purebred dogs. The black and white Goldendoodle can be called a tuxedo Goldendoodle for the tuxedo Parti pattern their fur color has. It looks like the dog is wearing a tuxedo. This color can be harder to come by. This coloring can be hard to produce because it requires that one of the pure breed parents be bred with a Parti colored Poodle. They can also be known as abstract or mismarks to identify the irregularity of their coloring. There is no guarantee that the coloring will pass through to the puppies with the black and white color. Those individuals looking for a black and white Goldendoodle can rest assured it is possible. With a reputable breeder that is knowledgeable and skilled, the likelihood that a black and white doodle can be produced is favorable. Goldendoodles come in a wide variety of colors and patterns with black and white together being just one of them. The Goldendoodle is a crossbred dog that comes from two distinct purebred dog breeds. With that being said, they carry with them the possibility of many color variations from their parentage. With a wide range of colors to choose from, an incredible array of patterns can also be created. The black and white Goldendoodle being one of them. The black and white coloring of a Goldendoodle is less common than perhaps the other golden or cream colors. While it is possible to get a dog with this coloring, it is a bit harder to produce. The type of breeding that is required can make the coloring unpredictable. Due to this unpredictability, it can cause the litter to vary. If the coloring does come through, it can vary from dog to dog, having one black and white dog that only has a white paw. Another dog of that same litter might have a different pattern, and yet another may have white spots on a mostly black coat. When it comes to genetics and breeding, the more or less you want something in the next generation, the more prominent or weak it has to be in the parents. Do all Goldendoodle breeders attempt to achieve black and white coloring for their clients? Each breeder will be unique in what they will and will not breed. Any reputable breeder will follow a set of standards that protect the health of the Goldendoodle breed and the puppies themselves, regardless of color or pattern. In the end, the health of the puppies and the safety of breeding for each animal must be considered. That being said, many breeders will attempt to produce a black and white Goldendoodle. However, many hope that most clients will understand that there is the possibility of variances in coloring. Many breeders, like their clients, can believe it exciting to achieve a particular appearance on a Goldendoodle. In the end, however, they realize and hope their clients will understand that the black and white color of a Goldendoodle is secondary. While adopting a black and white Goldendoodle in a family may be hoped for, other qualities like temperament, shedding, and health are more important. What other colors are available besides the black and white Goldendoodle? There are numerous colors and patterns for a Goldendoodle besides black and white. One of the purebred parents produces a dog with a golden coloring, which can come in light, medium, or dark. The other purebred parent has the possibility of several different colors. Beyond that, there are also unique colorings in each of the two purebred dog parents that are possible, including the black and white and patterns, including the previously mentioned Parti patterns. With this large number of colors, a breeder can create a wide variety of color possibilities in the Goldendoodle dog breed. Not all breeders are the same so potential pet patents need to research well before choosing a breeder for the best outcome regardless of color. If the black and white Goldendoodle coloring is unpredictable and rare, are they also more expensive? Yes, a Goldendoodle of black and white or other patterns can be more expensive. Many factors however, determine the price of a Goldendoodle. The mixed colored dogs of Parti and other patterns will generally cost more. The location of the breeder and client can factor into pricing as well as the breeder. Their experience, years of breeding, and knowledge play a part in how costly their puppies will be. A good reputation as a breeder may warrant a pricier puppy, but health and character should have no limits. Most people looking at a Goldendoodle, regardless of their coloring, want their dog to be healthy, strong, pleasant, and happy. Other factors that determine to price for a Goldendoodle, regardless of whether they are black and white, include their size and the supply and demand. Smaller Goldendoodles may come with a smaller price. Larger Goldendoodles can come with a bigger price tag. Age, whether they are a rescue, adopted or purchased from a breeder, and health of the dog, litter size and timing can all factor into the price. Whether the dog is golden, brown, and black or black and white will play into the final price tag. Does the coloring of a black and white Goldendoodle affect their health due to their genetics? Yes, it is possible for coloring to potentially be related to health issues but not in a direct way. This is true of the Merle black and white color pattern of a Goldendoodle. The Merle color pattern, which is produced by a particular gene, can cause health issues. These issues can include an increased risk of blindness, deafness, and certain forms of cancer. Finding a skilled, knowledgeable, and the experienced breeder can prevent these issues from cropping up in Goldendoodle puppies. Knowledge of parental background and safe breeding practices must be used. Will the black and white coloring of the Goldendoodle affect personality and temperament? Yes and no. The black and white coloring of Goldendoodle should not affect their temperament. It can be a factor in their personality. Their breeding determines this unique part of the Goldendoodle. Who they are genetically, the character of their purebred parents will determine the outcome. Personality also is determined by genetics but is individual to the dog and can, of course, be affected by outside sources, including environment and lifestyle. This can be similar to how a person might feel wearing a suit and tie versus wearing a Hawaiian shirt and khakis. Is it possible to change the personality by the color they wear, yes? Does it always alter the personality, no. Does the generation affect how much black and white a Goldendoodle can have? Yes, the generation of the Goldendoodle can affect coloring as it does everything else about the dog. Certain qualities can be watered down, absent, or increased with each generation. Final Thoughts While a black and white Goldendoodle might be less common than other colors, all Goldendoodles share that adorable cuteness and wonderful companionable personality. When deciding to welcome a Goldendoodle into a family, choosing the color might seem like the most important part. Health, character, and connection, however, should be the final deciding factors! Can Goldendoodles be black and white, or can you get them only in golden shades? Quick Answer Goldendoodles could be black and white but are extremely rare for unexpected genetic combinations. As Goldendoodles are a mixed breed, they receive genes from both breeds, Golden Retrievers and Poodle, and the gene of black color is recessive in this breed. Thus, it can happen, but the possibility is quite low. But, it will be great to know that Goldendoodles have plenty of other colors in varying coat patterns. So, it is not over; this breed has many other qualities that make this dog special. Can Goldendoodles be Black and White? Goldendoodle could be black and white but are extremely rare. As per the American kennel club , the Golden Retriever has colors such as dark golden, light golden, or golden. At the same time, the Poodle has standard colors including apricot, brown, blue, cream, gray, and silver. So, the coat color and other characteristics are inherited and give Golden doodles in a huge variety of colors, including black and white. Similarly, the reason for the black coat in Goldendoodle is the involvement of genetics. Black Golden doodles are rare because of a recessive gene found in Golden Retrievers or Poodle. To get a black and white Goldendoodle, you need to breed Golden Retriever with Parti Poodle, hoping that desired genes pass through to give extremely rare black and white Goldendoodle. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Bulldogs are mostly docile and well-behaved, choosing sleep over other popular canine activities. For those looking to purchase a bulldog, there are several considerations that must be made beforehand. Below are some tips on how to shop and buy a Bulldog puppy, what to look for in a breeder, and what to consider when purchasing a dog. What should I expect to pay for a puppy and how do I choose a reputable breeder? Many are surprised to find out that bulldogs are an expensive breed. In fact, quality puppies will set you back anywhere from two to four thousand dollars. But, there is a reason for this. Bulldogs are the result of specific and selective breeding process especially when it comes to champion dogs and bulldogs that represent the breed well. There are huge expenses for the breeder as well such as progesterone testing, stud fees, c-sections, milk formula, vaccinations, de-wormings, puppy checkups, special diets, whelping gear, etc. Choosing a dog because of a smaller price tag could cost you more in the long-run. You should search for a reputable English bulldog breeder. But where to start? One of these requirements is health testing. This way at least you know that you are dealing with Breeders who are conscientious about producing healthy puppies. Do not look to purchase puppies through Craigslist, Social Media Sites, Pet Stores or the Walmart parking lot yes, I have seen them for sale in parking lots! Breeders who sell thru these venues are generally profiting and are not truly dedicated to the breed. These puppies are often poorly bred which results in an unhealthy puppy. A reputable breeder will be available to you for the long haul and eager to help with any questions or concerns throughout your bulldogs life. Look for breeders who can provide you with a complete pedigree of your dog, a health guarantee, and a bill of sale. Finally, never have a bulldog shipped to you. Since they are brachycephalic flat-faced , they are less likely to survive the shipping process compared to other breeds. What should I know about Bulldog health and Cost? You should know beforehand bulldogs can have minor but common health concerns, including cherry eye and skin allergies and require excellent veterinary care so before buying a puppy make sure to have the puppy checked out by a Vet. A reputable and responsible breeder will have a clear and transparent health guarantee listed on their website and give you hours to get the pup examined at your own vet just in case there are any costly or life-threatening conditions outside the minor issues common to bulldogs that can be easily treated. Check to see if they will replace the puppy; refund you in the event something is untreatable. Caring for a female dog in heat is messy and time consuming, and male dogs with their testicles intact tend to be more headstrong and have more of a tendency to lift their legs and mount yours than neutered males. Finally, decide on appearance. White bulldogs resembling the University of Georgia mascot are very popular, but the breed standard also allows for dogs to be brindle or red. Black or blue colors however, are not part of the breed standard. The English bulldog is a great breed, but be sure to know what to look for in a breeder and in a puppy before purchasing. Finally, if a puppy is not your thing, there are many bulldog rescues throughout the country that can provide you with an adult dog. Whatever method you employ, remember to take your time, do your research, and always opt for quality over cost. For detailed information or to have a question answered by a breeder click here. Nevertheless they are fantastic at lying on the couch and giving you the stink eye when you disturb their rest. Quick Guide to French Bulldogs French bulldogs were named for their origin story, which says that they were a breed of English toy bulldogs and several unidentified dog breeds. French bulldogs are small, cute dogs that are very playful and perfect for being a home pet. Lifespan Sociability The Maltipug is a popular dog breed, especially because it is small and friendly and does not have excessive exercise requirements. When choosing a breeder, you should avoid the temptation of finding the cheapest. Although a low price does not guarantee that a breeder offers poor-quality dogs, there is a chance that their breeding parents are overbred which can lead to behavioral and physical problems with the puppies. Consult with your local kennel club or hybrid club and ask for recommendations. Ask your local vets, or any owners of similar breeds that you know, and look at reviews and ratings online to help you find breeders with a good reputation and with a history of offering healthy and well-adjusted puppies. There are also groups of owners and fans of the breed, and group members will usually have a very good idea of the breeders that do good work and those that you should avoid. When you do find a breeder, determine whether they have had the puppies screened or, at the very least, that the parents have been screened for common health concerns associated with the breed. This can save a lot of heartache in the long run and help ensure that you get a healthy dog with a lower propensity for genetic illnesses. Try to meet the parents of the dog. It is still a good idea to brush and groom them every week because this can help prevent knots and matting, and a lot of owners like to take their Maltese to a professional groomer to control the hair around their face. Their long hair does mean, however, that Maltese can be prone to sunburn in the area where their hair parts on their back. This is part of the Dalmatia region, where the Dalmatian breed also originates. It is believed that the breed actually originates from the Spitz-type dog of the region, although having been bred to be smaller. There is no recorded link to Malta whatsoever. The Wrinkles Were Bred into The Pug The Pug, which was bred as a lapdog for Chinese royalty, is meant to have the distinctive wrinkles on his head and face. It is said that these were bred into the Pug and were meant to represent the Chinese symbol for a prince. If the folds are not cleaned regularly and properly, it can lead to infection and a disease called skin fold dermatitis. In most cases, the Malti Pug has the long hair of the Maltese and avoids the wrinkles of the Pug. As such, he is a loyal and loving companion dog. While he might only be quite small, he is a vocal protector of his human parent. If your Malti Pug takes after his Maltese parent, he may be a little snappy around young children, especially if he has been spoiled by his owner. If he takes after the Pug, it is more likely that he will be loving and will dote on people of any age. The Pug is known for being a comedian and enjoys showing off. Are These Dogs Good for Families? This is because most hybrid breeds have little history behind them, and also because the parent breeds can have a big influence on how your new dog will act and react. In this case, the Maltese is considered a good companion dog but is usually preferred by the older owner. He will not normally get along very well with children, and this problem is magnified if he has been spoiled by his owner. He can be yappy and even a little bit snappy with young children. With that said, his size means that he should not be left alone with young children because he can get accidentally hurt. On the other hand, the Pug is known to love children because he enjoys showing off and is always up for some troublemaking. Thus, it can be a bit of a lottery whether you get a dog that mixes well with young children or should be kept away from them. The Pug is likely to stick his tongue out and charge towards anything that looks exciting. The Maltese might be a little more reserved in his approach, but inwardly he is just as excited at the prospect of making a new four-legged friend. Socialization is a good idea with this breed, especially because a lot of people will instinctively try and pick up a Pug or Maltese when seeing them. If your dog is emotionally and physically well adjusted, they will appreciate the affection, will not back away, and they will not usually bark except in excitement. However, before buying one, you should consider the following factors to determine whether this is the right breed for you and your circumstances. You will likely only need to feed your dog one cup of good quality food every day. Obesity is a major problem for dogs, and especially because he will not want to go on long walks to help walk off the calories. Despite this temperament, though, they do not have high energy requirements at all, which is one of the reasons that they are so good for apartment living and why they are so popular with older owners looking for a companion. They will be content with one or two short walks a day and will be happy if you augment these walks with some active playtime during the day. With that said, the Maltese does do well in agility and training classes, and you might find that your new puppy enjoys these kinds of activities as well. But they do have a bit of a stubborn streak so they will only really do what you want if this happens to align with what they want. With that said, a consistent trainer that is heavy on positive training methods can enjoy very good results with this breed. Training should be considered important because the breed can develop small dog syndrome. They will believe that they run the house, especially if they are overly protected by their owners. They tend to be allowed to get away with bad behavior, and it is difficult to train bad behavior away. Therefore, early and ongoing training will help in this regard because it prevents the bad behavior before it occurs, which is much easier than having to try and discourage bad behavior that has become a routine. You should brush this breed every day because it will get rid of the loose hair, which can become uncomfortable when it is matted and knotted. It can also help prevent the shed hair from building up in the home. It is usually easier to brush your dog while he sits on your lap than it is to repeatedly brush the floor. Maltese and Pugs can develop weepy eyes. You can keep their eyes clean by regularly wiping the tears away but do so carefully. This helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease, both of which can cause serious discomfort in a dog and may prevent them from eating. Because your Malti Pug does not get a lot of walks, his nails will get long and require trimming. Get a good quality trimmer , get your puppy used to having his nails trimmed at a young age, and consider having his professionally groomed if you are unable to clip them yourself. The following are some of the conditions that are closely associated with the two parent breeds and that should be closely monitored. Minor Conditions. A combination of the spunky Pug and the cheeky Maltese, the Malti-Pug is a diminutive dog with a large personality. A gregarious character that gets on well with most people and animals, this hybrid is a good choice for a household that is already established with children and perhaps some additional pets. The Maltese The Maltese does not actually come from Malta as its name suggests, but more likely from the nearby region of Meleda, an ancient Croatian island now known as Mljet. Thought to be an ancient dog breed with over 2, years of history to its name, records show that the Maltese was highly-prized in its time, with the ancient Greeks even constructing tombs for them when they passed away. While the Maltese was able to thrive throughout the centuries, it almost met a premature end in the early 18th century when ill-informed breed fanciers attempted to make the breed even smaller and the population size dwindled. Efforts were made to stop the breed from becoming extinct and it was necessary for other breeds such as the Poodle to be added to their gene pool in order to re-establish a healthy and robust population. The Pug Having enjoyed a surge in their popularity over the last couple of decades, many will be surprised to learn that the Pug is not a new breed at all, but rather one that has been around for several thousands of years. Though we are uncertain where they first originated, they were certainly present within China in the year B. Veterinarians are now demanding that breeders act now and start establishing a new population of Pugs with longer faces and less breathing issues. Rather than looking like a combination of the Pug and the Maltese, they have quickly developed into a breed in their own right, with quite a unique look. As the Maltese is not classed as a brachycephalic breed, its muzzle is relatively long in comparison to its skull and there is more space for the soft tissues of its head. Due to this, the Malti-Pug should have a much less snub-nosed appearance than the Pug with a more pronounced muzzle. Perhaps their most dominant facial features are their dark, circular eyes that lend them a keen and alert expression at all times. Their body is square in shape with short limbs. Their tail curls over their back, though is rarely as dramatically curled as that of their Pug parent. Though many will retain the fawn body and darker facial mask that is typical of some Pugs, others will have solid coat colours that may be fawn, black or white. Their fur is straight and rather harsh, rarely growing as long as the elegant, flowing coat that the Maltese is well-known for. Very sociable, they will get on well with all other family members, including those of the four-legged variety. Most Malti-Pugs make good little watch dogs, as they enjoy guarding their territory and emitting loud yaps as soon as someone new arrives. However, this trait can make for a noisy time when the postman or neighbors pops by! Due to its small size and gentle temperament, the Malti-Pug does not make a successful guard dog. Due to this, owners need to be firm but fair, not allowing them to get away with any mischief. Sensible training is the best way to prevent this behaviour from developing in the first place. Health There are a number of diseases that each parent breed is genetically prone to and, while they may be seen somewhat less often in this hybrid dog, they have unquestionably not been eliminated. Dry Eye Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca Dry Eye can be a tricky disease to diagnose as in the early stages dogs may not show many symptoms. Indeed, in any breed that is prone to developing dry eye, it is advised that their tear production is monitored at each annual vet check. As the disease progresses, the surface of the eye begins to suffer from being chronically dry and a dog may develop a thick mucus discharge, as well as eye infections and ulcers. The treatment of choice is medicated drops that encourage tear production, as well as the frequent application of lubricant drops. There is also a surgical procedure available, which has varying success. Brachycephalic Syndrome One of the best ways to reduce the prevalence of brachycephalic syndrome within a breed is to cross them with a non-brachycephalic dog, as has been done when the flat-faced Pug was crossed with the Maltese. Despite this, some breed members will have a smaller face than they should and may have some issues breathing efficiently. For some, surgical procedures such as a surgery to open their nostrils wider may be of benefit. Owners need to be aware that these dogs are more prone to heat-stroke and can struggle to keep up when exercising with their peers. Porto-Systemic Shunts An abnormal blood flow that is present from birth results in blood being shunted away from the liver, meaning it is never processed as it should be. This results in inappropriate digestion of nutrients and a build-up of dangerous toxins over time. Affected dogs will be small for their age and typically also exhibit abnormal neurological behaviour. The treatment of choice is a surgery to alter the flow of blood so it no longer bypasses the liver. Periodontal Disease Dogs with small skulls are prone to dental over-crowding and the build up of calculus on their teeth. Exercise and Activity Levels While the Malti-Pug is playful and curious, they do not actually need a great deal of outdoor exercise and are usually content with a few short walks that are supplemented with play time and training sessions. Grooming The coat of the Malti-Pug tends to shed quite a lot and should be brushed outside on a daily basis to minimise the loss of fur within the home. As discussed, their teeth benefit from frequent brushing and this is something that owners should work on getting their dogs used to from a young age. This small dog will have a fairly deep chest with a broad rounded head with a medium-length muzzle. If your pooch gets most of its genes from the Pug parent, they may have more of a square muzzle. This breed will have dark round eyes that will portray an eager but gentle expression. Your pooch may inherit the Pugs double layer coat with a soft, smooth coat of the Maltese. Some pups may inherit the single-layer coat from the Maltese parent, which is also silky and flat. The crossbreeds are also known to have a rough wiry coat with a soft texture. Unfortunately, it is hard to know what the coat will look like until you see the puppy. However, you can expect the colors to be fawn, black, or even white. Diet, exercise and overall health will determine the lifespan of this breed. Trainability This breed is intelligent, which should make them pretty easy to train. That being said, they can have a stubborn side. A dog this size will most likely only require a cup of food in one day. Of course, it will depend on your dogs, age, and activity level. Choose high-quality dog foods that will provide them with the nutrients they need to stay healthy. Avoid buying them the cheaper foods that are full of fillers without any nutritional value. If you have a puppy, opt for food that is formulated for puppies. Puppies have different nutritional requirements than adults. Choose some high quality treats you can feed them sporadically. Also, invest in an automatic feeder or a good dog bowl. Exercise Requirements This small dog is will require at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise per day. This can consist of a short walk, make sure you have a good leash to keep them from running away. Be careful not to overexercise this dog, as this may cause injuries for their tiny joints. Early training and socializing will ensure that your Malti-Pug becomes a well-developed dog that actually listens to you. Socialization is important to ensure that your pooch becomes acclimated to all types of sounds, smells and sounds in a positive manner. Breed Loyalty When you build trust with your Malti Pug, you can expect a loyal companion that is always by your side. Grooming Requirements The grooming needs for this pooch will vary from dog to dog. The amount of grooming each pup requires will depend on which parent it inherited most of its genes. If the pooch acquired most of the genes from the Pug family, you can expect to brush them at least times per week. Regular brushing will help you remove dead hairs and control the heavy shedding. The Maltese coats are more prone to developing mats and tangles and will require more brushing. Bathing All dogs will need to be bathed at least once every three months. Some dogs may require more bathing than other dogs, it really just depends on the particular pooch. Never bathe your Malti-Pug too often; as it can strip the natural oils from their skin making their coat dry and itchy. If your pup inherits most of its genes from the Pug, you may want to bathe them at least once a month to help control the smelliness. A Maltipug with most of its genes from the Maltese parent will do fine with one bath every 3 weeks. A Pug has fold-over ears, while a Maltese has are drop-shaped that hang close to the dogs face. Your Malti-Pug will most likely have velvety ears that hang close to their face. Cleaning your Malti-Pugs ears will be a part of your regular grooming regime. Most veterinarians recommend that dogs ears should be cleaned at least once a month. Long neglected nails can cause them to split or crack, especially, when your pooch is walking, playing, or running. Lack of oral hygiene can lead to diseases and infections, just like in humans. Opt for a gentle brush and a dog-specific toothpaste. Human toothpaste can be toxic to dogs. With proper and regular grooming, your dog will live a healthy and happy life. Starting the grooming routine early will help get your pooch conditioned to the process, which make your life so much easier! Temperament Both parents are gentle, affectionate, and trusting, which make them a great family dog. You can expect the Malti-Pug to be a small dog physically, with a huge personality. Each dog will have its own unique personality, but you should expect a dog that is full of energy. This small dog prefers to be a lap dog and loves its human companion. The Malti-Pug is an intelligent breed with a silly side. Living Conditions Unlike big dogs, they will be fine living in a home with a small backyard. They are perfect for apartment living, due to their lower energy levels, although be prepared for their bursts of energy. Make sure they have plenty of toys to help keep them entertained. Kids and Other Dogs This small dog will get along with other dogs, cats, and even people. They will do great with families of young children. You can expect them to have common dog problems such as chewing, begging, and digging. However, with proper training, they can be molded to behave the way you want them to. This pooch will look forward to attention from their human companion, so be ready to spoil them with belly rubs and baby talk. Both the Maltese and the Pug require a lot of human attention and are also known to suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for hours every day. The Malti-Pug will do best in an environment where they get a lot of attention. They should do fine if you work outside of the home. Just be prepared to have them greet you at the door wanting all your attention after spending the whole day alone. Health Risks As with any mixed-breed dog, there are some issues you need to consider as a pet owner. Designer breeds may have more health issues than that of the purebred parent. Always ask the breeder if they test the parents for genetic defects. Just taking the time to find out about the background and health issues of the parents can prevent you as a potential Malti-Pug owner facing a host of medical problems and thousands of dollars in vet bills. As with any crossbreed mix, the price of a Malti-Pug puppy will vary in price. One of the biggest things that affect the overall price is the pedigree of the parents. The better the pedigree, the more breeders will charge for the litter of puppies. I personally recommend looking for a reputable breeder, as opposed to buying from a puppy mill. Another thing that affects the price is the breeder you choose to buy from. Popular breeders realize they can charge top dollar for their pups, but it usually means you are getting a puppy that will be health. The prices will vary depending on whether you decide to adopt or buy the doggie. In other countries, the prices may be lower. It really just depends on where you purchase the pup and the breeder you buy from. Finding a Malti-Pug will be a lot harder than finding one of their parents. Most people who adopt or buy crossbreeds will usually contact the kennel club in their country. This will allow you to find a registry of breeders with high breeding standards. Join forums or websites online that share information about the Malti Pug. This will allow you to meet other people who have adopted or bought a Malti Pug and can recommend the breeder they used. Green Field Puppies website , also has a huge selection of Pug Mix puppies for sale, so you can check them out. Some of the basics include puppy food, food and water bowls, crate or puppy pads, leash or harness , puppy gates or baby gates , toys and some safe puppy treats. Your new puppy will also need to have their shots.
The Esk Collection pen is super lightweight with easy-to-use zippers and access points for small dogs to enter and exit. The ability to zip up the top was a bonus for dogs who might jump or try to climb out of a pen. Folding and disassembling was a bit tricky, but doable. We appreciated the mesh design for keeping rambunctious puppies contained while still allowing for visibility and airflow. This pen is lightweight and fairly sturdy, though a larger or rambunctious dog could potentially move it around from the inside. This may be a wise choice if you and your vet are unsure of how big your dog might get. However, if your dog will be hanging out on a comfy dog bed in its pen while its owner is at work, a larger space is preferable. Are you going to need something smaller and more portable — like our Best for Travel or Best for Puppies picks — as your only dog pen, or will you want to purchase an additional, more stationary dog pen for home? Plus, you may want more than one pen to give your dog a larger area. First, we evaluated how easy they were to set up, which we measured by having our testers set a stopwatch on their phones to time the setup process from start to finish, and asked them to evaluate how easy or intuitive the setup would be for most people. In terms measuring the other testing attributes, all of the features on each dog pen were carefully inspected, with special notice paid to opening and closing all the doors and entry points. Testers then collapsed or folded the pens, taking note of how easy or difficult it was to break them down and how adaptable and versatile they were in the process of using. We also noted the weight of each dog pen and made note on how easy it was to carry around in terms of portability. We then rated each dog pen on a 1 to 5 scale against the following attributes: ease of setup, ease of use, versatility, and portability. Then, only after completing their evaluation, testers learned the price of each dog pen. With the price in mind, they gave each pen a score for its value. In the end, we averaged out these scores and only the products with the highest overall ratings earned a spot on this PEOPLE Tested list of the best dog pens. Frequently Asked Questions Which pens should be used for large dogs? For larger dogs, look for pens that can be secured to the wall or ground to ensure the dog won't knock it over. You should also look for pens with high panels; the New World Dog Exercise and Play Pen is the tallest size option on our list. What is the difference between dog pens and dog crates? Crates are structures that surround a dog wholly, while pens keep the dog enclosed to a certain area, but may not have a roof or floor as part of the structure. This way, we can crate the dog and simply open the door to give them more space when appropriate. For more in-depth insight into matching dog pens with dogs, Dyball spoke to Tom Davis , dog trainer and canine behavior expert in upstate New York. In order to keep our recommendations fresh and accurate, staff writer Alyssa Brascia updated this piece with long-term testing insights from participants who let their pups use these pens for up to six months, documenting how well or not they held up as time went on. Each product was re-evaluated accordingly so that we can create the best shopping guide for our furry friends. What Is People Tested? We use our unique methodology to test products in three labs across the country and with our network of home testers to determine their effectiveness, durability, ease of use, and so much more. Based on the results, we rate and recommend products so you can find the right one for your needs. And by the way, companies can never buy our recommendation: Their products must earn it, fair and square. Related Articles. Welcome to Miniature Labs! Labs have been on the top of the list when choosing a family pet therapy dogs and hunting companions. The Miniature Labradors are really no different when it comes to temperament, looks and being family friendly. They are a bit smaller so they take up less space! They still have all the great attributes as a standard lab like great coats, webbed feet for swimming and otter tails. There have been a couple of good breeders that have invested a lot of time into the Miniature Labrador Retriever. We hope that these dogs will continue to bless all of us with their GREAT personalities and their zest for life for a long time to come! We breed our miniature Labrador puppies using many of the breeds listed on our miniature lab breed origen page. However, we do try to keep "Lab" as our primary breed. By doing this, it helps to preserve what past miniature labrador retriever breeders have started as well as help build the future of the mini lab breed. Above is a 15 month old standard labrador Chocolate Left lbs next to one of our miniature labs 15 months right merle 34lbs www. Should a Lab Mix take after their Labrador Retriever parent, they will be a playful, energetic, and affectionate dog that loves their families. Labrador Retrievers are energetic dogs that tend to have an extended puppyhood. They are also social, friendly, and tend to be patient and gentle with children. This makes them fantastic pets as they also tend to get along well with other dogs and even other pets, despite their retriever tendencies. If the other parent breed has a similar temperament, then you can expect the same from a Labrador Retriever Mix. You still want to ask questions about the other parent breed as they are bound to introduce some potential quirks of their own. Although Labs are happiest with room to run, they adapt well to apartments as long as they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and affection. They also do well in most climates, but do not like to spend long stretches of time alone. If the other parent breed is also highly adaptable, then you can expect the same from a Labrador Retriever Mix. Are mixed-breed dogs healthier than purebred dogs? As with purebred dogs, health often depends on reputable breeding practices. Just as a mix can inherit none of the conditions common to their parent breeds, they could also inherit all of them or some combination of them. From the Labrador side, potential health concerns to be aware of in a Labrador Mix include patellar luxation , hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, and cataracts. The other parent breed will likely introduce some other potential conditions to this list. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Labrador Retrievers are highly trainable dogs that can be a good fit for owners of any experience level. First-time owners may have a challenge at first with their high energy and exuberance, but tend to be successful. If the other parent breed is also highly trainable, then you can expect the same from a Labrador Retriever Mix. If the other parent breed tends to be more challenging to train, then you will want to be prepared for that potential and be ready to enroll in puppy training classes if you need them. A Lab Mix can end up with a coat similar to one of their parents or a coat that is truly a mix of both. Should they inherit the Labrador Retriever coat, it will be short and will shed throughout the year with heavier shedding as the seasons change. Weekly brushing and the occasional bath keep a Lab coat healthy. Trimming nails once or twice monthly keeps them from growing too long. Because dental care is often overlooked, gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Brushing teeth every day or using an enzyme toothpaste daily in addition to cleanings at the vet as needed helps prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Labrador Retrievers are high-energy working dogs that need plenty of exercise and a job to do to be happy. If the other parent breed is also a high-energy dog breed, then you should expect a Labrador Mix to be a high-energy dog as well. Even if the other parent breed sits in a lower activity range, you will still want to be prepared for the potential of a high-energy dog should they take after their Lab parent. Fully-grown Labrador Retrievers tend to stand inches tall and weigh pounds. The other parent can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother. Labs generally live for years. Although the other parent breed could affect this slightly, you should be able to expect a similar average life span from a Labrador Retriever Mix. Featured Labrador Mix Article. puppy standard poodle - Given that they are experts in the field of animal health and welfare, they will know the best meal schedule for your dog. This is one of the simplest methods to keep your Bulldog happy and healthy. Therefore, by choosing the best food for your beloved buddy to eat, you could extend its life span! Some examples of dry dog food are dog biscuits, kibble, and flaked cereals. Before serving dry dog foods to Bulldogs, warm water or broth is frequently added to this to improve the texture and enhance the flavor. Canned Wet Food: Canned wet food is sometimes preferable to dry food because it has a lot more moisture and thus will keep your dog hydrated. Moreover, wet dog food is also more likely to be appreciated by your English Bulldog puppy because it is usually more flavorful. However, wet food may increase the likelihood of dental issues. Homemade Diet: Homemade diets can help you save money. This diet also allows you to have more control over the macronutrients your dog consumes. As a result, with a homemade diet, you can rest assured that your dog is only consuming the best ingredients. Raw Diet: Raw dog food can be purchased as a frozen log, or it can simply be prepared at home. However, keep in mind that it should be prepared using quality meat and healthy fats. When it comes to choosing the right food for a Bulldog puppy, you need to be sure that it has high-quality protein to allow its body to function properly. If you accidentally drop something on the floor, these canines will gobble it up. However, some foods are incredibly toxic and dangerous for English Bulldogs to consume, even in small amounts. Here are some foods that you should avoid feeding your Bulldogs: Chocolate: This delectable human food includes theobromine , a poison that impairs the kidney, heart, and other important organ functions of a Bulldog puppy. If consumed in large amounts, xylitol can cause severe liver damage to your Bulldog. Raw Bread Dough: This is extremely poisonous. Milk and Other Dairy Products: Providing milk and other dairy products could lead to puppy diarrhea and other digestive system problems. These human foods may also set off food allergies, which may result in crusty scabs around the mouth of your dog. Grapes and Raisins: These may be enticing to dogs as treats or snacks, but they could also contain mold and fungus, which can result in gastrointestinal discomfort, seizures , lethargy, or kidney failure. Tomatoes: These contain tomatine , a poisonous alkaloid that can cause muscle weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, loss of coordination, and seizures. Avocado: This tasty human food contains persin, which takes dogs some time to digest. It may cause severe stomach pain, breathing problems, and a buildup of fluid in the chest. Mushrooms: If your English Bulldog puppy consumes wild mushrooms, you should treat it as an emergency because it can result in neurological symptoms, kidney and liver failure, and even death. Macadamia Nuts and Walnuts: These delicious Hawaiian treats rank among the most hazardous human foods for dogs. These nuts can cause hind legs to become paralyzed for anywhere between 12 and 24 hours after consumption. Aside from the listed foods, there are other foods that your Bulldog puppy should stay away from. Therefore, when your dog transitions from a puppy to an adult dog and also when they get closer to seniority, it makes sense to switch to a different diet. It could take some trial and error to find the best food for them. You can use the following transition chart as a guide for your English Bulldog puppy: Day. Puppies with allergies Physical Traits That Will Impact Your Choice Having a very short muzzle can present some challenges with lifting up and munching on food. English Bulldogs can also struggle sometimes with swallowing their meals, and with taking in sufficient oxygen while they are busy eating. Bulldog puppies often also have teeth that are overly crowded together in their smaller mouths. Rounded, triangular or other unique-shaped kibble are ideal, avoid the traditional large square bits. And if your English Bulldog puppy is still having a tough time with chewing, mix dry kibble with some wet puppy food. Portion sizes Begin by following the amounts listed on the packaging. How often to feed English Bulldog puppies Little and often is always the best approach when feeding a puppy. I start my puppies off with four meals a day, spread evenly over the daylight hours. Best dried food for English Bulldog puppies These three brands make some of the best food for English Bulldog puppies. You will notice each food is enriched with special nutrients, minerals and vitamins. Those that your English Bulldog puppy needs to develop healthily in every way. Royal Canin Bulldog Puppy dry dog food Royal Canin creates tailored recipes for the unique needs of different puppy and dog breeds. This has the same unique S-shaped kibble. Best canned food for English Bulldog puppies The best food for English Bulldog puppy can end up being a combination of dry puppy food mixed with a bit of wet puppy food. It also makes learning how to grab and chew the dry kibble just a bit easier! For both puppies and adult dogs, wet food can be more palatable than dry kibble. It is designed in a complete and balanced nutrition puppy formula. A great choice to mix with the Purina Pro Plan dry kibble, to help your English Bulldog puppy learn how to grasp and chew solid food! There are no artificial ingredients or by-products in this wet food either. Packed with vitamins, lutein, taurine and fish oils, your English Bulldog puppy will have the nutritional support to make the extra work of eating worth it. This is a great choice to mix with Royal Canin Bulldog puppy dry food for a little extra mealtime incentive! Best food for English Bulldog puppies with food allergies Treating food allergies in puppies often requires two phases: allergy testing and a limited ingredient diet. One of the known triggers for food allergies in dogs is grain. So the best puppy food for Bulldogs who have food allergies is often a grain-free diet. Plus DHA and plenty of vitamins and minerals to help with digestive support and immune system health. The kibble is a unique triangle shape which can be easier for your puppy to grab hold of and pick up. Best food for English Bulldog puppies with sensitive stomachs Finding the best dog food for English Bulldog puppies can sometimes be a challenge because of their unique anatomy. This can sometimes lead to digestive disruption. A limited ingredient diet may ease tummy upset, gas, diarrhea and other symptoms of a sensitive stomach. There is very minimal processing and no artificial additives of any kind. The kibble is both round and rectangular, offering a nice mix of shapes to help your English Bulldog puppy grasp it more easily. There is no corn or beef, both of which can be a source of digestive upset in puppies. This limited ingredient puppy food comes in two recipes: chicken and oats or lamb and rice. Both recipes include plenty of glucosamine and chondroitin, calcium and phosphorus. As well as vitamins and minerals to support healthy joints, bones and immune system. However, we selected them for inclusion independently, and all of the views expressed in this article are our own. The potential benefits of raw Swapping Puppy Food Brands When you first bring your Bulldog puppy home you should feed him the same food that he was getting from the breeder or shelter for about three to four weeks. This will give him time to acclimate to his new surroundings and get used to being separated from his mom and siblings. Mix about three-quarters of the puppy food he eats now with one-quarter of the new food for the first two to three days. For the next two or three days give him equal portions of the old and new food. Finally, give him three-quarters of the new food and one-quarter of the old food for two to three days. Bulldog Puppy Diets The sheer number of different puppy foods to choose from can be overwhelming. Your breeder may be able to give you some guidance. Puppies need plenty of protein to promote strong bone, muscle, and joint growth. Guidelines on labels will give you an idea of the amount to feed your puppy, but ultimately each dog is an individual. Their body size, not what the label says, is a better indicator of a proper portion. A serving size can also vary depending on the type of food or brand as well. Special Requirements Bulldogs are a brachycephalic breed. Chewing and swallowing can also be a problem. This is because the palate, teeth, tongue, and tissue are the same size as that of a dog with a much longer muzzle. Many Bulldogs also suffer from brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome which causes serious breathing issues that can also make eating difficult. You might also find combining dry food with a good quality wet food is easier for them to consume. From three to six months, you can reduce it to three times a day. At six to 12 months old, you can feed him twice a day. Bulldogs are highly at risk for hip dysplasia. In fact, this study of 20 English Bulldogs found that none of the hips showed normal development and .Feeding a Bulldog Puppy Kibble Dry kibble is probably the most popular all-round puppy food choice. Make sure you choose a dry formula designed specifically for puppies. However, not all brands are created equal. Stay away from ingredients like corn. The early care and environment of the English Bulldog newborn puppy are very important. Reasons a English Bulldog puppy might die early on are usually due to difficult whelping, congenital or genetic defects, environmental factors i. Things to have handy in case of an emergency: a box of Amoxi-Drops anti-diarrhea medication like Biosol, Kaolin-Pectin, or Neo-Pectilin thermometer Karo syrup or honey tube feeding kit 10 feeding tube and 10cc feeding syringe several cans of puppy formula like Esbilac; however, it is very important that a English Bulldog puppy get its mother's milk if at all possible during the first 5 days to protect it from infection and give it antibodies from the mother's milk You can purchase pre-made formula from your vet and outside of the mother's milk, it is best. However, the following formula is cheaper and provides all the nutrition. It's been used by many people and gives good results: l can Carnation evaporated milk some prefer canned goat's milk. Many use it instead of evaporated milk - both can be found in the bakery section of your grocery store. If this seems to be, change to bottled water to make the formula. Keeping the litter box tempature between degrees with no drafts for the first few days is usually adequate. Other sources of warmth can be heating pads or heat lamps. If using a heating pad, monitor the intensity of heat, as pups have been known to cook on pads set on high settings! There are many excellent heat lamps on the market, but remember that caution is needed. Heat lamps have been known to start fires! The temperature on the English Bulldog puppies 1 inch above the bottom of the box should be about degrees with a corner that is slightly cooler and allow them to scoot to wherever they like best. There should also be plenty of clean blankets, as this will allow for regulation of temperature. If a English Bulldog puppy has its mouth open, it's too hot. If a English Bulldog puppy is too cool, it often won't show anything - but it can be deadly. Hydration is one of the most important things to monitor in new bulldog pups, as it can be one of the first signs of problems. Check hydration by by pinching the skin on the back of the neck or on the top of the back. If the pinched skin stays creased, the English Bulldog puppy is dehydrated and needs fluid replacement. Also, a dehydrated bulldog pup's coat will sometimes have a ruffled or scruffy appearance. Dehydration can either be a result of inadequate nourishment, too much heat, or sickness. It is strongly suggested that you use regular newborn or infant bottles and nipples. The ones available for purchase for cats, dogs, ferrets, etc. Bottle feeding is far more preferable. The sucking on a nipple, the handling and holding of the English Bulldog puppy is so very important to their overall development. The English Bulldog puppy should be held with his head upwards and his body and tail down in a 45 to 90 degreee angle when bottle feeding. If English Bulldog puppies and their blankets are not kept clean, it is very easy to come down with a staph infection and diarrhea - which is serious, as bulldog puppies can go downhill quickly. As mentioned before, it is equally serious if the English Bulldog puppies get chilled so avoid drafts. Even if you have them in a basket with a heating pad, you need to cover the basket with a towel to keep out drafts. A chilled English Bulldog puppy must be warmed up. Put it in a pocket so that it's warm and jiggled as you walk around, or if you are a woman put it in your bra for your body heat. There are lots of little ways to accomplish it. Don't worry about feeding formula to a chilled English Bulldog puppy because it will have the opposite effect: their body cannot handle the food and makes it all the worse for the English Bulldog puppy. Priority should be to get the bulldog puppy warmed up slowly. Newborn English Bulldog puppies cannot regulate their body temperature or body functions like urinating and stools. It is important that they are pottied at each feeding. They might not have a stool each time, but they will urinate. This is what the mother does when she licks them. But some mothers don't want to be bothered, especially the first few days. After that, she will become a good mommy. Some might start off being good, then after a few days, or even a couple of weeks, not want to be bothered and might even be nasty to the puppies such as snapping and biting them. Always be careful and watch. Don't leave her alone until the bulldog pups are big enough not to be laid on, or big enough that you know that the bitch is a good mother. If the mother will not clean the babies, you must be sure to do it. Using a kleenex, gently rub the area to stimulate their potty. Then be sure to clean them well. Make sure to check them even if the mother cleans them. Often the stool will get stuck to the tail and be dry. If that happens, or if the English Bulldog puppy seems to be straining and constipated, try the following: Run warm water in the sink slowly. Put a drop of soap on their behinds, and wash and massage their behinds; it will get the tail and poop unstuck, clean them up, and cause them to potty very well. Make sure they are well rinsed, and dried thoroughly so they don't get chilled. If the little bottoms are red and sore, use some Desitin ointment. You may see green puppy stools and stools that have an appearance of bunches of tiny seeds. If all else seems normal, this seems to be harmless and short-lived. However, watery diarrhea can be very serious if left unchecked. There can be many causes, like the mother's diet, or infection. Diarrhea together with vomiting usually means infection. For the first 3- 5 days an average English Bulldog puppy ouncer will take about 10 cc's every hours. It should be broken into feedings every 2 hours 5cc per feeding. If it is a good sized bulldog puppy 1 lb. Towards the end of a week, you should increase the food needed to about cc or more. For the first week they should eat every two hours. If they are good size bulldog babies, you can sometimes go longer. By the second week, as long as you don't have any problems and they are of good size, you can usually go hours between feedings. An average weight for newborn English Bulldog puppies is around ounces. Good size puppies are oz.
