The more traditional red and white Bernedoodle color has a solid red base on most of the body, while the chest, face, paws, and legs have white hair. In contrast, the red markings are found on the face, ears, and sometimes on the back as well. Black Bernedoodle A solid black Bernedoodle is more of a rare find compared to the black and white Bernedoodle and tri-color Bernedoodles. If the goal is to achieve a black Bernedoodle, both parent pups should carry the same recessive gene. The Bernedoodle tri-color pattern features three different colors on the coat. There can be various tri-color patterns with colors like black, brown, tan, rust, apricot, red, white, and cream. The dominant base color is usually darker and white markings are found on the face, chest, feet, and paws. Sable Bernedoodle Another popular choice is the sable Bernedoodle color. If all these colors werent confusing enough as it is, you can also have a sable brindle combination where the puppy has the stripes, but the hair underneath is still lighter too. These puppies will have varying sizes of patches. Several colors of hair create the "blue" and "red" color that these babies are known for. One puppy could appear to be several colors as its base coat. No two babies are ever the same!!! The phantom merles have those distinct phantom markings that we love so much! On average, these babies will appear to be three or more colors! These babies have large patches of distinct white, not just small spots of white hair mixed in which is common in merles. These puppies can appear to be five or more colors. The are the most unique color out there and are something extra special!!! A little about merles: Standard sized merle bernedoodles are especially hard to find. They are one of the few colors that are auctually harder to find in Standard size than mini. The reason being that standard sized merle standard poodles are difficult to find. The merle color is very uncommon in all poodle sizes. They can usually be readily found in toy and mini sized poodles. The toy poodle is then bred to a standard sized female to create the Moyen or medium sized poodle. This poodle as the mother cannot safely be bred to a bernese mountain dog. She will be far too small. If this moyen poodle is the father, the puppies will be a larger mini or very small standard size. These are not Large standard sized puppies that we are hoping to have. This merle moyen poodle should be bred again to a standard poodle in order to bring as much size as possible to the offspring, and then that puppy could safely breed for standard sized puppies. It takes several generations to safely and correctly breed for True Standard sized babies. It takes many years to create the perfect poodle to make these babies happen! Colors and Fur Our Premier Bernedoodles will be traditional tri-color much like a Bernese Mountain Dog , abstract tricolor similar to a traditional tricolor with less white in the face , sable similar to a traditional tri-color but has more reddish-browns due to the poodle genetics we use , phantom, merle, merle tricolor, or bi-colored brown and white, black and white, or shades thereof. Our F1b's will consist of black and whites, traditional tricolors, abstract tricolors, and lots of variable brown and reddish brown and whites. Color never reflects temperament and personality so usually most people don't really care too much what color they are. They are all really beautiful. Although there's variation due to the hybrid vigor present as a result of the recombination of genes in many arrays, there is definitely a bernedoodle appearance that is fairly consistent. If you let the hair grow, they will look like big shaggy dogs that you can't help but to give a big hug to. And they enjoy every minute of it! Our Premier Bernedoodles will tend to have wavy curly coats due to the coat types we require in our bernese mountain dogs which helps to minimize or eliminate shedding.We do make sure that our standard poodles do not carry the genetic marker known as the "Improper Coat" allele or IC for short. Wavy curly coats do require a little more grooming as compared to straight, but many, straight coats shed more.Although they are considered to be large, they don't act like a large dog in the house. They are generally very careful and calm natured as adults however they do have some puppy-fun energy thru the puppyhood stages and thru 3 years of age. They love people and other pets! We do thorough genetic testing of our adults that we use in our breeding program to assure that you are purchasing the healthiest of bernedoodle puppies. Our Bernese mountain dogs come from very long-lived blood lines in Western Europe and these longer lifespans is one of the many reasons we obtain our Berners from several specific populations known for their longevity. Obviously we can't guarantee lifespan as there are many variables outside of our control not to mention, environment, stress, climate, food, etc. But track record seems to show a longer lifespan. What's the Difference? An F1b is an F1 standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle or could be a backcross to a Bernese mountain dog but we generally use the poodle as the backcross. An F1bb is an F1b standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle. Behaviorally they are all very similar with the F1b and F1bb's being slightly smaller than our F1 standards and tend to have slightly curlier coats to a tight wave. During their normal daily interactions, you will occasionally hear a loud "yelp" in response to one biting another too hard. This yelp usually ends the mouthing behavior. Now puppies have fur and people generally do not. When you bring your bernedoodle home, they will likely display some degree of mouthing behavior toward their human family. This will usually stop this behavior. We then redirect their desire to mouth to something more appropriate like a chew toy and after a few seconds of cooperating we praise them. Fill your tub or sink with warm water and let several herbal tea bag steeps for 3 minutes, remove the tea bags and let your dog soak for 5 minutes. The fleece coat does need to be brushed but it is much more easily kept long than a wool coat. The puppy and adult dog will need regular grooming because the face will need trimming as will the bum and beneath the ears to prevent matting. Somewhere between nine and fourteen months of age the adult coat will grow in. At this transition time the coat will need lots of attention in order to keep the length. Brush right to the skin with a stiff brush or rake. If the dog mats at this point she will have to clipped short by your groomer. Hair Coat The hair coat feels very similar to the hair on your head. It is unlike the feel of wool or fleece. The hair coat will shed. It requires little attention. Puppies will often look like they are going to have a fleece coat until the hair comes through the puppy coat at about eight or nine weeks of age. The doodle with a hair coat has the same wonderful temperament and personality as the doodle with the non shedding coat but is not good for a person with allergies or for a family that has chosen the doodle because of his non-shedding qualities. It is hard to get a brush through the curls if you leave it too long. Without this regular brushing right down to the skin mats will form next to the skin. Mats make it very uncomfortable for the dog to walk and run and play. We keep our wool coated dogs clipped short because we live with fields of weeds and burrs. It is quite possible to keep a wool coated dog with a long coat, it simply is a matter of keeping up with the brushing and keeping feet, faces and bums clipped. This would be a trip to the groomer at least every second month. Every six weeks keeps dogs in both long and short coats looking and feeling like movie stars. Grooming For Every Doodle No matter what the doodle coat there is grooming required. This can either be done by an interested family member or your groomer. Ears Fur grows out of the ears of a labradoodle. It begins its journey deep in the ear canal. If ears are not keep clean and dry dirt and wax can lead to severe ear infections. You can tell when the doggie has hot ears that there is a problem and a trip to the vet will be in order. Some doodles love to dig and have very thick fur in their ears. This means it could be a good idea to pluck the fur from deep in the ear. It is not difficult to take tweezers or better still a hemostat and pluck out the fur on a regular basis. I must say I almost swooned the first time I did it myself but it does get easier. Unless you are an expert it is a two person job, one to hold the dog and promise treats, the other to pluck. Your vet can recommend an ear drying powder which will keep the ears in good health. Of course, your groomer will do the ear plucking for you. If you take your dog every six weeks she should be fine. Nails Unless dogs travel on a stone river bed a couple of kilometers every single day they need their nails trimmed. Our Labradoodles have dew claws and they will always need attention. Nail trimming should be done every few weeks. It is however another wonderful thing your professional groomer will do. Our doodle girls have fuzzy feet and so have to be content with a simple nail trim. Little Bottoms All long coated dogs need a trim around their little bottoms for ease of toilette. Size The Multigenerational Australian Labradoodle comes in a variety of sizes. Each size has that special personality. The Mini is for people who enjoy a smaller companion. The Medium of course is the middle size. For those who love large companions there is the Standard. Regardless of the size of the Australian Labradoodle there are common characteristics among the breed such as loving, intelligent, loyal, and adorable companions. The Multi-Generational Labradoodle tends to be a great companion for people with allergies. Their coats come in a variety of colors such as red, caramel, apricot, chocolate, cream, black, and parti. At Dawson Creek we feel our puppy protocol is a very important part of our program. We follow the Puppy Culture Program for Breeders and feel it is a major asset in the development of our puppies. Our puppy cultural protocol begins before the puppies arrive and continues throughout their stay at Dawson Creek. However, most importantly, socialization does not end at Dawson Creek for our puppies. We provide strategies and suggestions to help our customers continue the puppy socialization process at home where our Dawson Creek puppies can strive and flourish in their new homes. We would like to share with you a quick glance of what our puppy cultural protocol involves: From the moment of arrival, we begin touching and stroking our puppies as much as possible. Daily cuddle sessions begin during the puppies first stage of life. Days three through 16 are very important. During this stage we provide early neurological stimulation that includes placing the puppy in the palm of your hand and holding the puppy in a variety of positions. Daily cuddle sessions continue. A very exciting and precious time at Dawson Creek for us is the Transitional Period. During this period the puppies are two to three weeks old. The puppies began opening their eyes and moving around more frequently in the whelping box. The opening of their eyes and the toddling around are the first milestones that we record. Towards the end of the Transitional Period the puppies begin to move around with more stability. This is when we began providing the puppies with large squeaky crackle toys to get the startle -recover — curiosity exploration affect. Also, during this period we add a potty area to our whelping box, begin carrying the puppies to short visits to new rooms in the household, and allowing them to explore outside of the whelping box on a variety of textured quilts, blankets, and pads. During this stage the puppies are wormed for the first time and their toenails are clipped. As the puppies continue to grow stronger, they reach the Socialization Period. During this stage the puppies are approximately three to four weeks old. We continue daily cuddling, snuggling, and touching sessions. Also, new toys and sounds are being introduced on- a -daily- basis. The puppies continue to explore new rooms and areas of the house and begin having Short Pup visits with outside family members. During this stage the puppies are being introduced to water and mush. Socialization becomes a little more advanced at week five. The puppies are removed from the nursery and transferred to the weaning pin. Here they experience a variety of new toys, a potty area, crates, and a play pin. The play pin is full of tunnels, balls, toys, things to climb on, and variety of chew toys. During this time the outside world is viewed for the first time. This opens a new world of experiences with many out- door activities. The puppies motor skills have developed very well. Therefore, they are free to run, jump, and play with their siblings. Also, during this time the puppies are being exposed to new training experiences with a clicker. They are rewarded for good behavior such as coming when called, following, sitting on the grooming table, manding sitting with the bottom on the ground and focusing on the trainer. They receive their first visit from the vet and are receiving softened dog food mixed in with their mush. Snuggling, touching, and daily cuddling sessions continue daily. Socialization continues as the puppies move to weeks seven and eight. They are introduced to individual crates and their take home snuggle puppy. Also, the puppies are now taking potty breaks after meals, being exposed to very shallow water, and being introduced to a leash on a sniff and stroll adventure. Cuddling and snuggling session are still occurring daily. The puppies have now transitioned to dry dog food, been weaned from mom, and will receive another vet visit soon. As the puppies prepare to transition to their new homes Dawson Creek is gathering materials to send home with the new puppy parents where socialization will continue, and our puppies will thrive at their new homes. Thunder is a goofy, fun loving, 2 year old purebred German Shepherd in perfect health. He has had a well-rounded upbringing in a loving home and has great obedience. He is an excellent adventure buddy and has lots of experience camping, swimming, and hiking. He loves to play ball and tug, and show off his tricks. He often joins a bike ride around the neighborhood and runs nicely alongside the bike. He lives to play in any form of water — pool, lake, river, ocean, garden hose, you name it. He has good food drive and is not a big barker. Thunder would do best with an active, outdoorsy family.
