When they do, give them a reward for stopping, and then lead them onto another activity. Keep them busy. If you can wear out your Golden Retriever, they will eventually collapse and go to sleep. There is nothing so sweet as your puppy twitching and woofing in their sleep. Slighter build and shorter, much thinner. Why did I say, "much to everyone's disappointment," you ask? Well, because even the founder of the breed, Max von Stephanitz wanted them to be just a little bigger! The average male back then was anywhere from lbs, and the average female was in the high 40lblb range. So, while real old-fashioned GSDs were pretty small, the founder of the breed did want bigger dogs. No, but he did want females in the lb range and males in the lb range. Why did he want bigger dogs that would make them a little less suitable for running all day and herding sheep? I think the answer lies in the fact that herding in the early s was the way of the past. Horses became cars, German Shepherds were being swapped out for fences, and Newspapers for radios. He could probably sense that a shift from German Shepherds being mostly herding dogs, to them being police and military dogs was coming. This combination allows us to get the wonderful, husky structure of the Bernese Mountain Dog in a shrunk down, cuddly package. Some of my apricot Bernedoodles have amazed me on the quality of curl, thickness of coat and broadness across the back as they keep the adorable teddy-bear structure that we all love. They are similar to a Goldendoodle in color, but offer a husky-ness that is not found in the Goldendoodle. We see wideness across the back in the skeletal structure which is gorgeous. They tend to be short in body verses long-bodied. This gives them a stack that really shows off their figures. It's truly a teddy-bear, lap dog! You will fall in love with the many colors and the varying hues of the copper that the petites come in. In addition, their temperaments are a bundle of joy and excitement, making for a perfect family pet for young children and the elderly. They keep the air of innocence, the strong sense of loyalty and sensitivity of the Bernese Mountain Dog. They differ in that they can sometimes be a little quicker on their feet in agility compared to the larger sizes. Petites are really starting to trend and are a favorite choice for many.
