Featured Sessions All of my custom pet photo sessions start with a phone call to plan the perfect session for each pet family. No two are ever completely alike, even at the same location! She said that she would love to do her photo session there because it would be such a fitting location for her two hunting dogs, Brittany Spaniels Gauge and Georgia. Both dogs were on leash for their whole session, and it was removed later, in Photoshop. We use a 30 foot lead for running shots like these! She was very concerned that her busy, active hunting dogs could not be off leash, but she really wanted to capture them being active in a natural setting that suited the breed. As you can see, the marsh absolutely delivered all we could have hoped for! It was a stormy evening with dramatic skies and even a rainbow for a little while. The actual rain was considerate enough to wait until we were heading back to our cars at the end of the photo shoot. This is one of my absolute favourite photos from this year. The sunset reflecting on the Shepody River made a perfect backdrop for this happy pair of dogs. The sunset on the river behind Gauge and Georgia almost creates an optical illusion, as though I might have been shooting up at them, with the sky behind them! I do worry about them being too excited to work with. I thought of them as a memorial. Many dogs dislike having their feet touched as this can be a very dominant behavior or, they may have had a negative experience in the past. Getting your dog used to having its feet handled is something that is best started in puppyhood. Following are three potentially painful consequences of not trimming their nails. This is especially common if your dog has dewclaws. If they pull hard enough the outer casing of the nail can be ripped off exposing the quick and nerve endings. This can be quite painful and it is common for these types of injuries to become infected. A trip to your local Vet is usually required to treat and in worst cases your dog may need to be sedated so the wound can be cleaned and repaired. The sharp end of the nail pierces through the tough layer of skin over the pads and creates an open, ulcerated wound that is very swollen and painful as well as usually infected. The treatment and prevention for this needless injury is a simple nail trim. Pain management and antibiotics are also typically prescribed. Overgrown Nails Cause Accidents — Dogs use their nails for traction and balance when walking or running. Nails that are too long can cause a dog to slip and fall more easily. Older, arthritic dogs find these changes to be particularly uncomfortable. Nail trimming is a relatively easy way to avoid injury to your pet. If you feel uncomfortable doing it yourself your Veterinarian or Technician would be happy to help you.

We are a collection of volunteers donating our time and love. We accept poodles primarily from homes where it is no longer possible to keep them. On an exception basis, we may consider adopters from Delaware and Maryland Our Poodles Our dogs come from a variety of places. We accept dogs in good health without a history of biting. Currently most of our dogs are owner surrenders who may have behavioral issues that need time and patience to work through. Most of our rescue dogs are purebred poodles although we might have some mixes. In the case of older dogs, a dental cleaning may also be done. It may be important to note that rescue dogs are NOT a low-cost alternative to purchasing a dog from a breeder. To begin with, we seldom have puppies and rarely have dogs younger than 2 years of age. Additionally, females are not common. If you are very particular in regard to the size, age, color, gender or future task of your dog, it would be best to contact a reputable breeder for a suitable puppy. We require references from your vet and groomer. We verify that your previous pets received regular veterinary care. We welcome your application for a specific poodle. However we try very hard to match the right dog to the right home, believing this is the most successful way to have a happy outcome for both you and the dog. In the case of multiple applications for one dog, we give much thought to our placement decisions which are based solely on the welfare of the dog. Dogs are always placed in the home that most closely can match their needs rather than the order received of the application and the potential adopter must come to meet the dog in their foster space. We do not "deliver" or do long distance transport due to shortage of volunteers. .Adoption Donations Suggested adoption donations vary with each dog. They are on a sliding scale, based on the age of the dog. The higher suggested donations for a younger dog help to offset our much higher veterinary costs associated with our older rescue dogs. Our rescue efforts are entirely funded by our adoption donations and we receive no outside monetary assistance. We do not offer "free" dogs. At times we may charge a special fee for a highly desirable dog or a lesser fee for a special needs dog. Want to help? We need foster homes.
