What inspired your journey to become the Author you are today? April: My grand kids inspired me. I rediscovered picture books after they were born and loved the intimacy of reading with them. Describe what your ideal writing space looks like? April: I typically do my best work sitting in my recliner with a laptop on my lap. What type of books do you write? What is the title of the latest book you have written? Where did you find the inspiration while writing this book? April: It was inspired by my Labradoodle, Brady and my grand kids. They are all in the book! What does your creative process look like? April: I like to make up stories for the grand kids and I brainstorm and write down the story and read it to the grand kids and get ideas. They are great at telling me the truth about whether they like it or not. Then I have beta readers and an advisory group that I use to get broader feedback. I have a strong editor and work with my illustrator, Len Smith to create the characters and begin bringing the book to life. What advice would you give to a new writer? April: Do a lot of reading in a number of genres, especially the one s you want to write in. Join a community of like-minded people and mentor s to help you get there. What do you love most about being an Author? April: I love creating something that brings families together. Can you tell us about one of the most rewarding moments you have had as an author? April: Recently Jayden sent me a story that he wrote himself. It was only a handful of sentences, but brought his Mom to tears. He is Autistic and has a very hard time writing. He and I have been corresponding after the first time his Mom emailed me telling me how much he loved the book. She was excited that it held his attention and he was able to read it for himself.
