They are growing quickly, so while they eat smaller quantities of food than adult dogs, they need to extract far more nutrients like protein, minerals, and vitamins, to sustain their growth and development. Different Dogs, Different Diets Nutritional needs vary from breed to breed. One only needs to look at golden retrievers to know they require a different diet than a Chihuahua! For example, joint and bone problems are much more common in big dogs than in little ones, but choosing the right puppy food can reduce the risk. Large-breed puppy food has reduced amounts of calcium and phosphorus, which helps control the rate of skeletal growth. Also, you may find puppy foods that contain glucosamine and chondroitin to support joint health and mobility. By consuming too much food, your puppy will have elevated levels of the very nutrients that should be limited. Additionally, overweight puppies may develop other health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. Good eating habits developed during puppyhood will lead to a healthy mature dog in the years to come. Nutrition For The Outside One of the most visible components of your dog is its fur. Nutrition plays a vital role in this area. A large percentage of the protein your puppy takes in goes towards maintaining its coat. Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids are also essential for healthy skin and fur. Which Food Do I Choose? There will always be those who buy the cheapest brand on the market. Some will opt for the most expensive, while others will simply go with a brand name they recognize. The key is to find the right food for your particular puppy. One thing you cannot afford to ignore is the nutritional content. Because they are still growing, puppies need more protein than adults. Proteins foster muscle growth and development in puppies and lean muscle maintenance in adults, so the more of it there is in a diet, the better it is for your growing retriever. Fats, too, are important for golden puppies because they provide the energy required for everyday activities. You should be careful, however, not to feed your golden excess calories because this will result in excess weight or obesity. Eventually, your dog will end up battling joint problems. For instance, less expensive dog foods typically have lower-quality ingredients. The contents are often inexpensive, low-grade animal protein sources, like by-products and fillers. Fillers are frequently things like cornmeal, rice flour, or seed hulls. In general, thoroughly review the nutritional content of your chosen diet. Are the ingredients wholesome and natural? Does the diet have controlled calcium and phosphorous levels? Is the calorie and fat content limited to manage growth? Does the label state that the diet is complete and balanced? This can lead to obesity and will certainly cause increased defecation. The latter of these two issues will make house training more difficult than it already is. By contrast, costlier dog foods usually have higher-quality ingredients. The scales will be tipped heavily in favor of high-grade animal protein sources and fillers will be few and far between. Price is not, however, a guarantee of quality. The best dog foods for a golden retriever puppy are made with high-quality natural ingredients and have high levels of protein. Make sure the food is complete and balanced for daily feeding and formulated to meet the nutritional needs of large breed puppies. At this point, golden retriever puppies have likely already been switched to dry puppy food and you should continue feeding your pup the same type of food the breeder used. From the day you bring them home until they are six months old, you should feed your golden retriever puppy three times a day. Ideally, your pup should have breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. A grain-free diet is the default meal for golden retrievers that are sensitive to grains, but if your dog is healthy, feeding her such a meal boils down to choice. A lot has been said about grain-free diets. Reports and studies have been carried out in recent years trying to establish any connection between it and Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy DCM. That all starts with choosing the best puppy food for golden retrievers. Avoid low-cost foods that are more filler than substance, and look for better foods that are packed with nutrients to help your puppy grow. In particular, consider trying a large breed formula to meet the specific needs of your golden retriever puppy. Good nutrition is an essential part of any health regimen, and providing high-quality puppy food will lay the foundation for a long, and enjoyable life. You May Also Like. The protein will come from readily available sources such as chicken or beef, and not exotic or boutique sources like kangaroo or venison as you saw in second study mentioned above. According to the AKC , quality, regulated animal byproducts can be good for your dog. These byproducts can include organ meats or entrails, which often contain more nutrients than, say, plain chicken breast. Another misconception is that dogs should eat grain-free diets. As you saw in the second study mentioned above, that can actually be very harmful for your dog and cause DCM. But food labels can be a little vague and confusing, so below is an explanation of what some of these terms mean, according to the Merck Veterinary Manual and the AKC. There is one caveat though. For instance, flaked corn, ground corn, and kibbled corn could be sprinkled in an ingredient list and not be listed as the first few ingredients, but in reality, if you were to add them all up they are all corn, after all , you might find that this food is made mostly of corn. The same goes for chicken, chicken meal, and chicken byproduct. Meat vs. Meat Meal vs. The quality of these ingredients can vary widely, so be sure to talk to your vet about this and choose a reputable brand of food. Below are a few examples: Obesity. Golden Retrievers love food and they do have a tendency to become overweight if you let them. This problem can often affect these next two problems… Joint issues. Golden Retrievers are prone to joint issues and growing too fast because they eat too much can often make this problem worse more on this in the next section. Heart issues. Skin issues. Golden Retrievers are prone to hot spots and excess protein in their diets can be a factor that causes them. Many goldens suffer from food allergies. One cup of Brand X food may have calories per cup, while Brand Y has calories per cup. During a vet visit our veterinarian said he looked too small and lethargic for a puppy his age about 8 weeks at the time , and he recommended we feed him a little more. As far as how often to feed your puppy, this same rule applies. For us, we fed Oliver three times per day until he was a little over a year old. Getting a Golden Retriever Puppy? Get the gameplan for raising them right with the Golden Retriever Puppy Handbook. Those two statements may sound random, but they are related. According to the Banfield Pet Hospital , overfeeding your Golden Retriever can cause them to grow too fast and increase their risk of hip dysplasia. You probably noticed that a raw diet was the fourth-most popular diet Golden Retriever owners feed their dog. Since puppies are growing and adults are just maintaining their weight, they have different dietary needs. And for fats, puppy food should have at least 8. As far as when to switch from puppy food to adult food, talk to your veterinarian. To see a list of other milestones your puppy will hit like when they lose their first teeth, or when their coat is fully grown check out this timeline of Golden Retriever puppy milestones. Like most of the other questions in this post, this is something to talk to your veterinarian about. Many foods will have the same vitamins that pills have already in them, but on the other hand, some breeders require that you give your puppy vitamins for their health guarantee to be valid. First, we unknowingly started him off on one of the brands listed in the graph above that is correlated with DCM. Then we switched to another brand that he just sort of liked. If we were to have another puppy, we would definitely start with the Royal Canin Golden Retriever Puppy food. How To Switch Food Brands The other day I was talking to someone who was complaining that her puppy was having lots of stomach issues. Dogs have sensitive stomachs so if you want to switch foods, you need to do it slowly. You should take about a week to transition from the old food to the new brand. Also consider how long the brand of food has been around, whether or not there have been any recalls of that brand, and if there is any research behind it. What do you feed your Golden Retriever puppy? Have any questions about what to feed them? Let me know in the comments below! Related articles:. Sizes Dog Food Protein Content The pet food label usually expresses its content as a percentage instead of an amount. Animal-based proteins are complete and contain all the essential amino acids. Grains are another excellent protein source, albeit they may not have all these building blocks. The important thing is that the puppy food meets this minimum standard to ensure healthy development. Dog Food Fat Content Fat is a vital macronutrient that offers an excellent source of energy and the raw materials for the synthesis of good cholesterol. The recommended amounts differ radically in puppies and dogs, making a solid case for giving your pet food appropriate for its life stage. Of course, they also need it for growth and development. Dog Food Ingredients Pet food is regulated with required labeling to help you choose the best food for your Golden Retriever puppy. One of these requirements is a nutritional adequacy statement. That informs you about the life stage of the product. Manufacturers must identify the ingredients in their products, starting with the one that makes up the most weight. We can also say something similar about so-called human-grade pet foods. No formal definition exists for the term. The other concern lies with what manufacturers substitute for the grains. Some evidence suggests a potential link between the substituted ingredients and this disorder. Golden Retrievers have shown a higher rate of DCM and low taurine levels, which can cause it too. These dogs can synthesize taurine in their bodies. However, this breed has a propensity for not producing enough. That makes taurine in the ingredient list something we always check. Dog Food Sizes Most manufacturers produce several sizes of dog food. However, bear in mind that larger ones are usually a better value. Also, your puppy will grow quickly—along with its appetite. We suggest keeping both factors in mind when choosing a product. Final Verdict Ollie Fresh dog food came out on top in our series of reviews. Standard Poodles General Guidelines for Feeding Dogs With Sensitive Stomachs Seeing your dog suffer from sensitive stomach symptoms can be difficult, but there are some best practices you can follow to help your canine companion. Make Diet Transitions Gradually Dogs with digestive issues may have very specific nutrition needs, so you might be tempted to experiment with their diets. However, it's important to make dietary changes gradually to avoid worsening stomach issues. For example, don't switch your dog to a new food abruptly; instead, gradually mix in more and more of the new food to your dog's old food — making the transition over the course of a week or two. Avoid High-Fat and Spicy Foods Spicy foods and foods high in fat can worsen a dog's tummy troubles, so avoid these whenever possible. According to Dr. This is especially important for dogs with pancreatitis, as fat is even harder to digest with this condition. Examples of food sources with higher fat content include cheese, milk, butter, sausages, and high-fat meats like pork belly and bacon. Reduce Dairy Intake Dairy is a common culprit when it comes to triggering symptoms of sensitive stomachs in dogs. This may be due to a lack of the enzyme that breaks down lactose, which can lead to sensitivity. As tempting as it may be to sneak your dog a few bites of your own meals, it's best to ignore those puppy-dog eyes and resist offering human food to dogs — especially those with sensitive stomachs. All too often, human foods contain ingredients that can further aggravate symptoms. Natural foods like plain greek yogurt, antioxidant-rich blueberries or raw sweet potato slices can still be used as natural pet food toppers or treats. And of course, a human grade pet food diet is still encouraged! How To Reduce Your Dog's Digestive Sensitivity Integrating a rotational diet is a common way to alleviate any dog's digestive sensitivities. Specifically, this refers to a holistic feeding approach where you occasionally switch up your dog's food. This might mean switching to a different protein source or even changing the type of food you're offering wet dog food, dry dog food, or freeze-dried dog food. The idea here is that changing up food "resets" a dog's digestive system, allowing the bacteria in your dog's gut to adjust and, thus, strengthening the microbiome. To learn more about how to start rotational feeding, read this article. In addition to trying a rotational diet, you may also be able to reduce your dog's stomach sensitivity by integrating prebiotics and probiotics — as well as by gently steaming food to improve digestibility. Food and Ingredients That Support Healthy Digestion If you're thinking about switching your dog's food to alleviate stomach issues, there are some specific ingredients you may want to look for that can support healthy digestion. Fiber If your dog suffers from loose stools, adding fiber can be a great way to improve firmness. Fiber can also be beneficial for dogs because it can help pups feel fuller while eating, which may help reduce overeating and subsequent stomach upset. Great sources of fiber for dogs include pumpkin, kale, flaxseed, and apples. Psylium husk is another excellent source of fiber that is a little less digestible but can help improve stool firmness. White, Lean Meats White meats such as chicken, turkey, and fish are palatable to dogs and tend to have a low fat content, making them great for pups with digestive issues. As an added bonus, these meats are also a great source of lean and digestible protein. Grains Grains are often a great source of fiber and carbohydrates for dogs, though not all are created equal. If your dog has a sensitive stomach, you may want to stick with white rice, which does not have an outer layer and is easier to digest. Other sources of grains and healthy carbs to consider include brown rice, oats, whole wheat, and even ancient grains like millet and quinoa. Wet Food or Dehydrated Food When Rehydrated Wet food is often easier for dogs with sensitive stomachs to digest because of its high moisture content. Specifically, with wet food or dehydrated foods that are high-in-moisture once rehydrated, dogs don't have to draw from their body's water reserves to digest it. However, this isn't to say that all kibble is difficult for dogs to digest; some are specifically crafted with high-quality ingredients to be minimally processed and thus easier to digest — even for dogs prone to tummy troubles. Ultimately, it's best to consult with your veterinarian for specific food recommendations based on your dog's life stage, nutritional needs, breed, and overall health. Your vet may recommend, for example, a prescription diet or a hypoallergenic recipe. However, there are some foods from The Honest Kitchen that tend to help pups with food sensitivities and digestive issues. For your convenience, this recipe is gently dehydrated, so you can simply add water to moisten the food to your dog's liking prior to serving. Our gentle dehydration process helps to maintain nutrients while maximizing flavor, making this a tantalizing dog food. Although beef does tend to have a slightly higher fat content, the dehydrated nature of this recipe makes it easier for dogs to digest when water is added prior to serving. Likewise, dogs with sensitive stomachs may benefit from fibrous ingredients like dried apples and potatoes — as well as grains like organic oats, flaxseed, and barley. The main ingredient in this food is cage-free turkey, which is very low in fat and thus easy on dogs' stomachs. Meanwhile, dogs will enjoy digestible grains in the form of organic oats and flaxseed, while potatoes and apples offer additional fiber. Specifically, this supplement contains herbs like slippery elm, fennel, and plantain to soothe the gastrointestinal tract while supporting stool consistency. This is also a great choice for dogs suffering from gas — and it's gentle enough to be fed daily or simply as needed to boost your dog's overall bowel health. Our Instant Goat's Milk is a daily booster specifically developed with a boost of 1. This booster is great for dogs of all life stages, though it's often recommended for puppies suffering from stomach issues. The best part? Meanwhile, fibrous potatoes and pumpkin — combined with digestible grains like organic barley, organic oats, and flaxseed. At-Home Remedies To Alleviate Sensitive Stomachs In addition to choosing the right sensitive stomach dog food to support your pup's digestive health, there are some at-home remedies you may also want to try to alleviate upset stomach symptoms. Boiled White Rice and Chicken One of the best human foods you can serve your dog is boiled rice and chicken. If you've talked to your vet about your dog's sensitive stomach before, there's a good chance they've already recommended this option. This combination is ideal for a dog's gut health because it contains easily digestible grains white rice while still providing the lean, low-fat, and digestible protein your dog needs to thrive. Cooked Zucchini Zucchini is rich in fiber, which can help add bulk to stools. Meanwhile, it remains relatively bland and easy for dogs with upset stomachs to digest. The most important thing to remember when feeding your dog zucchini is to introduce it slowly and to ensure that it is cooked prior to feeding. Raw zucchini can be too difficult for dogs to digest, but gently boiling or steaming it can help. Pumpkin Pumpkin is another food that is often recommended for dogs prone to stomach issues. That's because it's a great source of digestible fiber, so it can soothe a dog's tummy while helping to bulk up stools and reduce instances of diarrhea. It also has a low glycemic index, so it can be easily absorbed without worrying about sugar spikes. Be careful not to buy canned pumpkin pie filling, which is loaded with sweeteners and will likely do more harm than good. Sweet Potato Sweet potato is another food that's loaded with healthy fiber and vitamins to support your dog's health and wellness. Plus, many dogs love the taste of sweet potato. Just be sure to cook sweet potatoes before offering them to your dog, as raw versions can be very difficult to chew and digest and could even lead to intestinal blockage. Baking or boiling are great ways to cook sweet potatoes, softening them and making them easier and more enjoyable for your dog to consume. Ginger In small amounts, ginger can also be beneficial to dogs suffering from sensitive stomach symptoms. This is because ginger root contains gingerol and shogaol , compounds found to aid digestion. You can add small amounts of ginger root to your dog's diet, though supplements are also available. This equates to about a quarter teaspoon at most for small breeds and three-quarters of a teaspoon for large breeds. Chamomile As an herbal supplement, chamomile is an anti-inflammatory that can effectively treat inflammation-related stomach problems. It can be given in the form of tea, powder, or liquid. Supplements are also available to make giving chamomile to dogs easier. Be sure to consult with your vet before adding chamomile to your dog's diet, as too much of this ingredient can be toxic. With this in mind, it's important to stick to the precise dosage that your vet recommends. In addition to choosing the best food, implementing a rotational diet and taking other proactive measures to support your dog's immune system can help your dog lead a happier and healthier life. Website: Arizona Goldendoodles More About Bernedoodle Puppies In Arizona Before you are all set to get a small Bernedoodle for your family, you must know about its behavior and other general details about adaptability. Here is an overview that will help you to make an informed decision. Temperament And Behaviour Bernedoodles are often quoted as a breed that comprises traits from the best of both worlds. They do not shed much, which is an element from their poodle background, while they are active and moderately energetic, which comes from their Bernese Mountain Dog side. They are very compassionate towards the people they are around, and as a result, they make great family dogs. They are also very good with children and enjoy hours of cuddling and playing. They are smart and are incredibly comfortable interacting with other dogs and humans. The most important and respectable trait about them is the level of loyalty they uphold. A Bernedoodle is very dedicated and will instantly provide you with a lot of warmth if it feels that something is wrong. You must train your Bernedoodle to stay on its own while you are at work. Bernedoodles are prone to experience separation anxiety, and therefore incorporating this element in their routine during their formative years holds a lot of importance. Health Bernedoodles are incredibly healthy dogs because of their genetic arrangement. They are immune to many common disorders because of their biochemistry, and therefore you can be relaxed about their general welfare. However, even after eliminating all the possible causes of the ailment, it is not possible to predict how an offspring will turn out in reality. The best possible thing to do is to feed the parents with proper meals on time and by taking care of their medication if any. It would be best if you fed your puppy religiously in the beginning so that it does not contract any health disorder. Proper exercise and lots of love will also ensure their happiness. Breeders vs Shops It is a very general question that emerges in the minds of people who wish to get themselves a pet. Buying a puppy from a store might be very convenient, but it devoids you with the small details about your furry friend. Shops deal with a lot of animals, and therefore they are not invested in a particular animal or a breed. A breeder, on the other hand, will be equally invested and will provide you with all the essential details and things to keep in mind. Right Advice A breeder will always want the best for the puppy. They will help you in selecting the right puppy that will be suited to your lifestyle and expectations. Money becomes secondary for breeders because their primary objective is to provide the best possible life to their puppies. Correct Details Most shop owners tend to conceal some details that might hinder their sales. On the other hand, breeders are entirely transparent about the details of their puppy. They tend to provide all the right information because they have seen the puppy grow and are well versed with the way it functions. They will help you out by providing details from the situations that they have encountered in reality. A shop owner might not be able to help you in such cases because of their generic understanding. Conclusion Having a Bernedoodle will be a worthy addition to your life because of its happy-go-lucky attitude. They will never let you have a moment of sadness with their happy faces and wiggling tails. You can contact the above-mentioned breeders according to your preferences and expectations. It is imperative to be firmly determined before getting a dog because it requires commitment and attention. If you think that you have all the needed motivation and resources, step out and get all set for incessant sessions of cuddling and late-night walks. Woof Woof! It is possible to have a Bernedoodle with more or less than 50 percent of each parent breed in its heritage if a first-generation Bernedoodle is mated with either a Poodle or a Bernese Mountain Dog. Discover more about our Bernedoodle puppies for sale below! The Bernedoodle is a strong, robust dog with a compact and powerful body. It has a bushy tail, long-hanging ears, a triangular muzzle and button eyes. Their coat comes in a variety of colors such as black, white, tan, brindle or a combination thereof. Even though these hybrid dogs have been around less than two decades, the breed is already very popular. Weight Because the Poodle comes in three different sizes, so does the Bernedoodle. A toy or a tiny Bernedoodle stands 12 to 17 inches tall and weighs 10 to 24 lbs. A mini Bernedoodle stands 18 to 22 inches tall and weighs 25 to 49 lbs. A standard Bernedoodle stands 23 to 29 inches tall and weighs 70 to 90 lbs. Bernedoodle Temperament and Behavior If you are looking for a smart and loyal dog that will be your companion for life, look no further than the Bernedoodle. These hybrid fluffy pooches combine the best of both worlds: the intelligence and low shedding coat of the Poodle, with the laid-back yet incredibly loyal nature of the Bernese. The Bernedoodle is a responsive and loving breed. They are intelligent, social, and good with children. These traits make the Bernedoodle easier to train and a good family dog. Bernedoodles have a relaxed temperament but a moderate energy level. Since the Bernedoodle is a combination of two different breeds, the puppies will have a combination of personality traits from each parent breed depending on the amount of each breed involved in the cross. It can even depend on the individual pooch — litter mates that have the same parents might turn out to favor different lineages, some leaning more towards their Poodle or Bernese roots than others. From the Bernese Mountain Dog side, Bernedoodles can be a little wary around strangers so early socialization is important. Toy and mini Bernedoodles also tend to be more energetic and stubborn than standard Bernedoodles. This also means that separation anxiety could end up being a problem for Bernedoodles in case they are not properly socialized. Bernedoodle Health For the most part, the Bernedoodle is a healthy breed. In fact, the creators behind this designer breed claim that elimination of health issues typical for the purebred dogs is what drove them to crossbreed dogs in the first place. However, in no scenario is it possible for someone to predict how healthy any dog will be throughout their lifetime: the best you can hope for is that a proper diet, plenty of exercise and regular visits to the vet will help keep your pooch healthy and happy. Life Expectancy The Bernedoodle is still considered a new breed still being perfected so there is not enough information about their lifespan. While there is no way to say with certainty how long Bernedoodles live, breeders estimate that the average life expectancy of a Bernedoodle is between 12 and 15 years. Of course, there are bound to be slight variations due to the difference in sizes, so a tiny Bernedoodle might live to be 17 years old, while the standard sized are closer to the shorter end of the range. Exercise Requirements The activity level of Bernedoodles varies depending on breeding, but they are typically a moderately active breed. They do love their outdoor adventures and will be more than happy to join you on a hike or your morning jog, but they do not need intensive exercise to stay healthy and happy. With that being said, the Bernedoodle can be a good choice for apartment dwellers provided they have enough space and are willing to take their pet on long walks and to the dog park. This means that Bernedoodles adapt to various lifestyles, including different activity levels. You could be letting them roam about in a securely fenced backyard and maybe play with another canine companion, arrange a visit to the dog park for a game of fetch or simply have a daily walk around the block. The smaller varieties — toy and mini Bernedoodles — tend to be more active than the larger varieties. In any case, a good daily walk should be enough to satisfy the exercise requirements of a Bernedoodle. A good idea is to offer puzzle toys and interactive toys, too. These will keep your pet entertained and offer a challenge for their smart minds. Bernedoodle Coat Bernedoodles come in any combination of white, black, and brown. It is also possible for Bernedoodles to be tricolor or sable — black, white and brown. This color combination is also the most difficult to achieve, and as such, the most desirable. Recently, some breeders have presented a merle Bernedoodle which displays a marbled white and gray pattern on a black coat. Puppies with this coat are very rare and usually the most expensive. Just as Bernedoodles come in different colors according to breeding, they also have different types of coats. Most Bernedoodles have long, wavy coats that shed minimally. Straight-coated Bernedoodles are less common and tend to shed more than wavy or curly-coated Bernedoodles. The goal with crossbreeding these two popular breeds was to create a perfect companion for families of all shapes and sizes. Bernedoodle Grooming The amount of shedding depends on the type of coat your dog has inherited from either parent. Those with a straighter type are prone to shed more, whereas if its coat is curly it will tend to shed less. Brushing somewhat regularly will help to prevent matting. Bernedoodle Training If bred well, the Bernedoodle should be an easily trainable dog because it inherits intelligence, eagerness to please, and a calm demeanor from its parents. As with other breeds, it is good to train and socialize your dog while still a puppy to avoid destructive and nuisance behavior later in life. During the puppy stage Bernedoodles can be a little headstrong, but this tends to lessen as the dog matures and receives training. It will make both of your lives so much easier in the long run. My mission is to work with CQ lovers, share my knowledge and understanding of their ancient past and shape the future of modern Chongqing Dog. Known to have originated in South Western China in the regions of Chongqing and Sichuan, it has likely co-existed with humans for at least two thousand years, as a guard dog and a hunter. Indeed, Chinese art work from the time of the Han dynasty BC— AD depicts dogs that bear close physical resemblance to the modern Chinese Chongqing dog. The term bamboo is used to describe this dog because of its unique and unusual tail; resembling a bamboo stick, it is straight, slender and hairless. Traditionally used to hunt either alone or in a pack , the Chinese farmers relied heavily on the Chongqing Dog to hunt a variety of species, including rabbits, wild boar, deer and birds. The Chinese Chongqing breed was saved from extinction due to the fact that it lived in remote, and largely unpatrolled mountainous regions, and because it was often classed as a working animal. Around 30 years after the outlawing pet dogs, in the late s the ban was finally lifted. The popularity of the Chinese Chongqing dog grew, and they were imported from the South West of China around the country. Sadly, the breed was to be dealt a second devastating blow, when in the year , China suffered from a SARS a viral respiratory disease outbreak. A large number of the breed were killed, and their numbers dropped dramatically. Today, the Chinese Chongqing dogs are considered extremely rare, and there are thought to be less than 2, in the world. Despite this, their popularity is increasing, along with an increased national interest in native breeds within China. They are squarely-built, with a large head that has a distinctly short muzzle. Their face has modest wrinkles; much less pronounced than those of their cousin the Shar Pei. However, just like their Chinese relatives, the Shar Pei and the Chow Chow , the Chinese Chongqing dog must have a blue-black discoloration to their tongue. Their ears are distinctive and will be one of the first things you notice when you encounter them. They are perfectly triangular, relatively small when compared to the overall size of their large head, and always stand very erect. Their tail is exceptionally unusual within the dog world: hairless, straight as a rod and pointed upright. Males will stand at 40cm to 50cm, while females are noticeably shorter at cm. The shorter female will weigh between 15kg and 20kg, while the male will weigh 20kg to 25kg. Their skin is mildly wrinkled, and these wrinkles are visible due to their short and sparse coat. In fact, many members of the breed will display completely hairless ears, tails, muzzles and chests. Their coat may be a reddish brown or a dark brown colour, and their black skin may be visible underneath. Dogs kept for working are typically more aloof with humans, and more driven and active. Those kept as companion animals will tend to form strong bonds with their family members and will be loyal and fiercely protective towards them and their property. Due to their long history as a guard dog, this breed will be suspicious of new people, and has a tendency to show aggression. Very early socialisation is critical to enable this dog to interact safely with children and other animals. Similarly, it is not advised that the Chinese Chongqing dog be kept with smaller animals, for fear of their safety. Keeping a male Chinese Chongqing alongside another male dog is ill-advised as they tend to show high levels of dog aggression. Trainability Keyser Photo Credit: Irina Frankovich Due to the physical strength of this breed, its territorial nature and potential for aggression, this is not a dog recommended for a first-time owner. In the right hands, however, the intelligent Chinese Chongqing can be well-trained. However, they are known to be a stubborn dog who does not live to please, and so their trainer must be dedicated and patient. The trainer must make clear that they are the leader of the relationship — a position which the confident and proud Chinese Chongqing dog will constantly question. Health This is a dog that was allowed to develop organically over time through natural selection rather than forced inbreeding. They have also survived for many hundreds of years in harsh climates with little human intervention. Both of these factors have ensured that the Chinese Chongqing dog is a particularly healthy breed. With no relevant scientific studies having been performed, and there being such a small number of dogs to assess, it is difficult to say with any certainty what health conditions affect this breed. There have, however, been anecdotal reports of skin issues due to their partial hairlessness. It is claimed that the Chinese Chongqing dog are an incredibly long-lived breed, often reaching the age of sixteen, and sometimes even eighteen. Exercise and Activity Levels The Chinese Chongqing dog has moderate exercise requirements and would benefit from a vigorous, minute walk each day. They will typically crave more exercise than this, however, and would happily tag along with you on hikes and long mountain walks. As with many dogs, if the Chinese Chongqing is under-exercised, it is likely to display undesirable behaviours, such as hyper-activity within the house. They benefit from access to large gardens, but due to their high prey drive and dislike of strangers near their territory, the garden must be very secure. Grooming Due to the very short nature of their coat, this is a low maintenance breed that requires little intervention. They should be brushed weekly to help spread their natural oils over their coat and remove any dead fur. Over-bathing is not advised, as this may dry out the skin, and washing is only required if the dog gets particularly dirty or muddy. Due to their potential to show hostility and aggression, it is highly advised that all routine grooming tasks are introduced to the dog at a very young age in order to increase acceptance. This should include tooth-brushing, ear cleaning, coat brushing, and claw clipping. Famous Chinese Chongqing Dogs Owing to their small population size, and the fact that they are so rarely seen outside of their native China, there are no famous Chinese Chongqing dogs in the media. Keyser, a dark brown Chinese Chongqing with his own Instagram and Facebook page, however, is thought to be the first every Chinese Chongqing dog imported to the UK. The line of the muzzle forms a very obtuse angle upwards. The cheeks are prominent, due to the strong development of the muscle. The length of the skull and the length of the muzzle are approximately 2: 1. The height to the elbow is about half the height at the withers. The female can be slightly longer than the males. Males should be muscular and well defined, whereas females tend to be more streamlined with an air of femininity. Temperament The Chongqing Dog is noble, alert, intelligent, brave, loyal and dignified. It is good with respectful children, but can be aloof with dogs it is not familiar with. Proper leadership and canine to human communication will resolve this. Socialize this working breed well as a puppy with other dogs and non-canine pets. The Chongqing Dog is fearless, powerful and muscular, tough and agile. They are natural non-canine pets. The Chongqing Dog is fearless, powerful and muscular. They are natural guard dogs with high drive but are not suitable for competitive or police bite work. If its owner is not with it and a stranger approaches, the Chongqing Dog will heighten watchfulness and make its presence known. If its owner is present, and it sees the stranger is friendly, it will drop its guard even if the owners leave. They are independent and can be a little standoffish with strangers at first but are extremely devoted to their family. They do best with an owner who is calm, but firm, confident and consistent with the rules. A premium diet, preferably human grade, will significantly reduce the chance of skin problems. Natural selection has successfully eliminated undesirable traits in the breed. Furthermore, there has been no inbreeding among the Chongqing Dog. Therefore, no known major health problems exist in the Chongqing Dog. Breeders in the U. This is a dog of medium size; it does not need a large space, but it does need regular exercise and loves a nice, grassy yard. Exercise This breed needs at least 30 minutes of vigorous exercise a day. They make good jogging and hiking companions or at least need to have a daily, brisk, long walk. Whether you are walking or jogging it is important that the dog is made to heel beside or behind the human holding the lead. Never in front, as instinct tells a dog the leader leads the way, and that leader needs to be the human. The Chongqing Dog is a natural hunter and should never be allowed to roam without supervision. These are designer breeds that are bred for a specific purpose. We produce an incredible bernedoodle that displays the qualities of both our champion line Standard Poodles and the Bernese Mountain Dog pedigrees. The advantage of a carefully planned mixed breed is that you get the added advantage of a phenomenon called "hybrid vigor". This process shuffles new combinations of genes that helps to increase longevity and decrease the usual ailments that impact many purebred dogs such as various forms of inherited types of cancer not all cancers have a genetic basis such as small and large cell lymphoma which is usually a result from environmental exposure. The bernedoodles are super healthy and are not as prone to the same issues that Bernese mountain dogs and standard poodles are. As a result, you have a family member for a lot longer and that will live a vibrant and healthy life if properly cared for diet, exercise, and family integration are all important components toward helping the dog to live a long happy life with you.You can see the links above about the qualities of Standard Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs as both are extraordinary breeds in their own right and for many, purebreds of these may be a great option as well. We prefer the Bernedoodle as they get the best of both breeds, incredibly loyal, goofy, smart, playful, intelligent, and has one of the best dog personalities we have seen in a family dog. The Premier F1 Standard Bernedoodle is a low- to mostly nonshedding we use standard poodles that do not carry the improper coat alleles and Bernese mountain dogs that have thick wavy curly coats. If you want a guarantee on non shedding, then you should try to select an F1b or F1bb bernedoodle. Both look amazingly similar to the F1 standard bernedoodles but maybe a little smaller. We will produce about 2 F1b and F1bb standard bernedoodle litters per year for those wanting a more curly coat in their bernedoodles. Premier Bernedoodles love to be with the family and do not do well in enviroments of isolation. Wherever the family is, that's right where they want to be. They are stunning dogs, and you'll likely get alot of attention and people asking you what kind of dog you have. They are beautiful and along with their incredibly gentle personalities, you will have an absolutely stunning dog. They are a perfect companion dog that love to go on walks through the city or hikes in the woods or mountains or a swim at the beach. They love it all and will be at your side the entire time. They don't tend to wander away as they prefer to be with you. They equally love just hanging out with you on the couch watching your favorite movie or watching you reading a book. They really love it all as long as you're a part of it. They are so loyal to the family. Bernedoodle puppies do have energy like most puppies, and this will continue thru about years of age at which time they really mellow out. They are not nervous nor hyper but will need some off leash time where they can really stretch their legs and run. The old motto "a tired puppy is a good puppy" always prevails! Just make sure they have a lot of fresh water and a cool spot to cool off afterward. Due to the the recombination and shuffling of new genetic variations, they do show some variation in their coloration however they also all have a common morphology that tells you it's a bernedoodle. Although we do take deposits on a first come, first pick basis, we will know the puppies well, their personalities, and can help select a puppy that best fits your lifestyle and what you are looking for. We only use Standard Poodles and Bernese Mountain Dogs to produce our Premier Bernedoodles so that any dog we accept into our Premier Bernedoodle program have passed stringent health tests, display family oriented personalities, and exhibit the best of conformation so that our bernedoodles are absolutely beautiful. Be very cautious when purchasing a purebred or bernedoodle without doing your due diligence as the puppies will always be cute, but will exhibit the personalities of the bloodline used later in life. Therefore, use a reptutable breeder that has invested in the dogs they use for their breeding programs and that raise them as their own family members. They should be able to produce their pedigrees as well, and should have both parents on site so you can see how they react to you. We are very Type A when it comes to the quality of dogs which makes it more difficult to give referrals. We are always going to be biased and believe that the wait for a Premier Bernedoodle is worth it and you'll be very happy you did! Also you can visit your local humane society and help rescue a dog at the shelter. If you have young kids be sure to get a younger dog from the shelter that can adapt to your family. But if you're looking for a unique new family member, a Premier Bernedoodle will be a true delight. Colors and Fur Our Premier Bernedoodles will be traditional tri-color much like a Bernese Mountain Dog , abstract tricolor similar to a traditional tricolor with less white in the face , sable similar to a traditional tri-color but has more reddish-browns due to the poodle genetics we use , phantom, merle, merle tricolor, or bi-colored brown and white, black and white, or shades thereof. Our F1b's will consist of black and whites, traditional tricolors, abstract tricolors, and lots of variable brown and reddish brown and whites. Color never reflects temperament and personality so usually most people don't really care too much what color they are. They are all really beautiful. Although there's variation due to the hybrid vigor present as a result of the recombination of genes in many arrays, there is definitely a bernedoodle appearance that is fairly consistent. If you let the hair grow, they will look like big shaggy dogs that you can't help but to give a big hug to. And they enjoy every minute of it! Our Premier Bernedoodles will tend to have wavy curly coats due to the coat types we require in our bernese mountain dogs which helps to minimize or eliminate shedding. We do make sure that our standard poodles do not carry the genetic marker known as the "Improper Coat" allele or IC for short. Wavy curly coats do require a little more grooming as compared to straight, but many, straight coats shed more.Although they are considered to be large, they don't act like a large dog in the house. They are generally very careful and calm natured as adults however they do have some puppy-fun energy thru the puppyhood stages and thru 3 years of age. They love people and other pets! We do thorough genetic testing of our adults that we use in our breeding program to assure that you are purchasing the healthiest of bernedoodle puppies. Our Bernese mountain dogs come from very long-lived blood lines in Western Europe and these longer lifespans is one of the many reasons we obtain our Berners from several specific populations known for their longevity. Obviously we can't guarantee lifespan as there are many variables outside of our control not to mention, environment, stress, climate, food, etc. But track record seems to show a longer lifespan. What's the Difference? An F1b is an F1 standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle or could be a backcross to a Bernese mountain dog but we generally use the poodle as the backcross. An F1bb is an F1b standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle. Behaviorally they are all very similar with the F1b and F1bb's being slightly smaller than our F1 standards and tend to have slightly curlier coats to a tight wave. If you're looking for a smaller standard Bernedoodle these would be a great option. Pictures are posted below with the other pictures. We continue to get lots of praise from those that have purchased our F1b and F1bb standard bernedoodles. Is the Bernedoodle for Everybody? I would like to think so, but if you do not plan on being with your bernedoodle and keeping it with you, in your home, as part of your home, this is definitely not the dog for you. They thrive on being with the family and not isolated we believe this is the case for all dogs, and especially bernedoodles. Any of our puppies kept in a permanent kennel situation, on a tether, or the like, will violate the terms and conditions of our puppy contract and will have to render the puppy or dog back to Premier Doodles see puppy contract in link above. We definitely support crate training, but these dogs are not meant to live their life in a crate nor kennel! If you want a pet that prefers to be in isolation, you may want to consider a nonsocial pet perhaps a Betta fish! Yes we have done a lot of the hard work the first 8 weeks as we do extensive early neurological stimulation bio-sensor and Puppy Culture program, along with starting crate training and housebreaking, BUT, they are puppies and will need your undivided attention for the next weeks as they work towards being completely housebroken and earning more privileges. They have been communicating with their siblings for the past 8 weeks using their mouth. During their normal daily interactions, you will occasionally hear a loud "yelp" in response to one biting another too hard. This yelp usually ends the mouthing behavior. Now puppies have fur and people generally do not. When you bring your bernedoodle home, they will likely display some degree of mouthing behavior toward their human family. This will usually stop this behavior. We then redirect their desire to mouth to something more appropriate like a chew toy and after a few seconds of cooperating we praise them. The good news.We have a Puppy Guide under our tab "Puppy Central" on how to unpack this process so that you can have success. If you put them time in early, they will have this knocked out in a few days. The rule of thumb is to get them outside ALOT.Be sure to purchase two Midwest XL crates can get from our Puppy Store , one for the back door and one next to your bed. The power of meiosis specialized cell division event that occurs in the reproductive organs, ovaries for females and testes for males and crossing over assures that each offspring will be diverse and different and this difference will be noticeable in color and a little bit in behavior. All will be superior, but some will be more playful and others less so, some will mouth more than others, etc. Available Puppies.Check out our "Available Puppies" tab at the top to find out how to get onto our Master List for a future puppy! Our Bernedoodles are from excellent bloodlines and all Pedigree information traces back to their AKC lineage. Our Dams and Sires have obtained extensive health clearances prior to being bred. These dogs will have a higher success rate for non-shedding, and are recommended for families with allergies. F1 Bernedoodles all have loose wavy coats that are typically minimal to light shedding, while F1B Bernedoodles coats can be loose wavy just like the F1 or curly and there are both coat types within the F1B litter. The F1B Bernedoodle is typically minimal to non-shedding. The coat of a Bernedoodle can vary from straight, loose wavy or curly. An F1 Bernedoodle will have a loose wavy coat, while an F1B Bernedoodle litter has both curly and loose wavy coats within the litter. The coat colors of Bernedoodles can vary based on the color genetics of the parents. We will also have Parti Bernedoodles. Daily walks are a must if you don't have a safely enclosed area for them to run freely. The Bernedoodle can be independent and does great being with family engaging in play, then happily laying on their own with a toy. It is still unknown how long Bernedoodles will live as it is a newer cross. The expected lifespan is hoped to be years. As with any dog, socialization and training should start while the dog is still a puppy and continue throughout its life. Look for a puppy kindergarten class locally or join the AKC S. Puppy Program , training based on positive techniques. You do not have to be an AKC purebred puppy to participate in their S. Puppy Program. Find a class here. This is a great place to start socializing and training. A well-socialized, well-trained Bernedoodle makes a wonderful family companion. Early socialization and training establishes those lifetime bonds between the family and puppy as these programs teach you how to communicate with your new puppy and get started on the right foot. Bernedoodles come in a variety of sizes and colors. Color is heavily determined by the Poodle parent and what colors are in its pedigree. Their colors can be pure black, black and white, black and brown or the tri-color look that the Bernese has of brown, sable, brindle, chocolate and phantom. There are typically three types of coat. The curlier the coat the less it will shed. Most Bernedoodles have the wavy type coat that is low- to non-shedding. Straight Coat: Like the Bernese coat, it may have a slight wave to it. This coat will shed, less than a Bernese, but noticeably. It is rare to see a Bernedoodle with a straighter coat, however, the straighter the coat, the more it will shed. This type of coat is minimal- to non-shedding. Curly Coat: This is the most similar to the Poodle coat and should not shed. The curlier the coat, the less it will shed. Since most Bernedoodles shed little, they need to be brushed regularly to prevent matting For lower maintenance, you can have their hair clipped every few months, depending on the desired look. This can be done professionally or you can learn to do it yourself. Brushing your bernedoodle will make shedding less noticeable. Puppies should only be taken to the groomer after it has had its full set of vaccines. They should be taken as soon as you can, to get them use to the groomers and the process of being bathed, ears cleaned and nails clipped, or if you choose to do this yourself. There are no guarantees what type of coat a Bernedoodle will have. Bernedoodles are not fully hypoallergenic but do tend to be allergy-friendly. Most people allergic to the dog dander, usually tend to be fine with a Bernedoodle. However, this is not a guarantee. An F1B does tend to be even more 'allergy friendly'. It really depends on what size the Parents are in its pedigree. We can only estimate weights according to parents size. Females do tend to be smaller than males. These are only ranges and a puppy can be out of the expected range when crossing two different breeds. The Standard Bernedoodle is bs in weight and inches in height. The Mini is lbs in weight and inches in height. The Tiny is lbs and inches in height. What is a Bernedoodle? Read on to learn about this amazing breed! Our Generations of Bernedoodles Depending on the parent dogs, there are many genetic variations of Bernedoodles. We have Standard, Miniature, and Tiny Bernedoodles. Our Bernedoodles come in three breed sizes - Standard, Miniature, and Tiny. Our F1 Standard Bernedoodles will usually stand inches at the shoulder and weigh or more pounds. Most standard Bernedoodles are in the pound range. Females are usually smaller than males. Our F1 Mini Bernedoodles usually stand between 17 and 22 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 25 to 65 pounds with most of them weighing lbs. Again females tend to be smaller than males. They are sized similar to our F1 Minis. F1B Tiny Bernedoodles usually stand between 12 and 17 inches tall and weigh between 15 and 25 pounds. Again, these puppies tend to be more hypoallergenic and usually less shedding than the F1 Bernedoodles. Differences between male and female Bernedoodles. We are often asked if there is a difference between boys' and girls' personality. Our experience is that there is a lot more difference from puppy to puppy in a litter even in the same gender than there is between boys and girls. Males might tend to be more affectionate and goofy, but also a bit more stubborn while females can be more independent but easier to train and less stubborn. The differences are actually quite subtle, and both males and females make absolutely amazing pets. Temperament is more important than gender when looking for the puppy that is the right fit for you. Male Bernedoodles tend to be larger than females, but beyond that there is not a major difference between the genders. Our Bernedoodles have various coat colors and types. Coat colors are generally a combination of both of the parents' breeds. Almost all of our F1 puppies have the beautiful tri-colored markings of the Bernese. This tri-colored coat is a less common variation and is generally the most sought after. You will see the most variation in color in our F1b puppies. One of the huge attractions to the bernedoodle is its hypoallergenic coat. Bernedoodle coats can vary in thickness, consistency, and color. In an F1 first generation breeding, you might get a puppy with a coat that looks more similar to a Poodle and get another puppy with a coat more like a Bernese Sometimes even within the same litter. While most of our bernedoodles have minimal to no shedding, a curly, Poodle-type coat will shed less than the one that is more straight, like the Bernese Mountain Dog. We encourage a more curly coat for people that have allergy issues. If you have intense allergies you should consider a curlier coated F1 or an F1B puppy. Bernedoodle coats are generally put into three main categories - Curly, Wavy, and Straight. Please note when looking at the examples below that the appearance of our Bernedoodles is greatly affected by whether they are groomed and how short the coats are if groomed. Be sure to consider this when looking at the pictures. The curls on this coat are usually tight with a soft texture much like what you would see on a Poodle. Curly coats may still shed, but they shed the hair upon themselves rather than on your floor. Unfortunately, this shedding upon themselves is what makes it necessary for them to be brushed daily and trimmed frequently. The curly coated Bernedoodle is usually the most suitable for owners who have an allergy to dog dander. This coat is very free-flowing and often has a lightly kinked or wavy appearance. Most people with allergies to dog dander i. Note, if you are unsure if this coat type will be fine for you, we suggest that you get further allergy testing done as well as take some time to interact with doodles and their humans in your area before purchasing a puppy. Be sure to consider this when looking at any pictures. Here is an example of the same dog with the pictures taken before and after a haircut. How you groom your dog is a big part of what gives them the look they have. Due to their well-balanced temperament and high trainability, our Bernedoodles are often trained as therapy dogs. They are a really excellent fit for the training regimen and tend to enjoy having a job to do. As a therapy dog, they get lots of human interaction, which they thrive on. Plus, it's a job that allows their cuddly and affectionate personality to shine! Our Bernedoodles do well in apartments. Both Standard and Min Bernedoodles will adapt well to apartment living. Their Bernese Mountain Dog mom is a working breed however, so they need to get plenty of exercise and attention to remain happy and healthy. They don't like to be left alone for long periods of time because they love human interaction, but are usually fine when left alone for shorter periods of time. They are a true companion dog. One of the reasons our Bernedoodles do so well as therapy dogs is that they are true companion dogs. They are very intelligent and are often described as having a happy-go-lucky, goofy, and charming temperament. They are happiest when spending time with their families. Bernedoodles love human interaction, affection, and attention and enjoy playtime and cuddle-time equally. Our Bernedoodles are excellent around children and the elderly. They are a dog who simply wants to love and be loved in return, which makes them a fantastic companion for single owners and for families. A Bernedoodle puppy can certainly light up your life with love and laughter. For more info on Bernedoodles check out this article.F1b Bernedoodles are also known as second generation mixes. They are the result of breeding a first generation Bernedoodle with a purebred Poodle. But, in a second generation, these boundaries change. F1b Bernedoodle Appearance Two individual f1b Bernedoodles can look quite different from one another. The best way to predict how puppies will look is to examine the two parent dogs being used. Remember that one parent will be a first generation Bernedoodle, and the other will be a purebred Poodle. First generation Bernedoodles have equal influence from the Poodle and Bernedoodle. So, they can look very different. Some may already look very similar to Poodles, but others may resemble their Bernese Mountain Dog parent more closely. The goal of an f1b Bernedoodle is to resemble the Poodle parent more, particularly in their coat type. Generally, second generation mixes will have a more curly coat, and will be closer to the Poodle size than the giant Bernedoodle size. How Big Do They Get? Purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs are a giant breed. They usually grow from 23 to 27 inches tall, weighing from 70 pounds to as much as pounds. Most Bernedoodle mixes will use a purebred Standard Poodle. This variety will grow to at least 15 inches at the shoulder, weighing from 40 to 70 pounds on average. First generation Bernedoodles will fall somewhere in between these two sizes. It will entirely depend on the traits they inherit from the two parent breeds. Generally, they will be larger than your average Poodle, but smaller than your average Bernese Mountain Dogs. They may still be larger than your average standard Poodle, especially if your f1 Bernedoodle was closer to the Bernese Mountain Dog size. To achieve a smaller f1b Bernedoodle, breed your Poodle with a smaller first generation Bernedoodle. F1b Bernedoodle Colors There are a huge number of colors that your f1b Bernedoodle could be. But, it will still be influenced by the parents. Bernese Mountain Dogs can come in the following color combinations: Black, rust, and white. What is an F1b Bernedoodle? Bernedoodle puppies F1b You may be familiar with the Bernedoodle, but you might be wondering what does F1b Bernedoodle mean? Read ahead to learn more about the Bernese and Poodle mix! Like most crossbreeds, the Bernese Poodle Mix dog inherits a mix of traits from both parent breeds. You can call them Bernepoos or Boodles, but the most common name is Bernedoodle. This number denotes how far off the hybrid is from a purebred Poodle and Bernese Mountain Dog. Backcross or BC is the process of breeding a hybrid in this case, an F1 Bernedoodle with one of its purebred parents a Standard Poodle. The goal is to produce a pup more like the Poodle parent. Different Bernedoodle generations Bernedoodle generations are typically called F1, F1b, or multi-gen. These terms also indicate the percentage of Poodle and Bernese Mountain Dog in the mix. Most people prefer to buy a Bernese Poodle Mix with more Poodle qualities because that mix will likely be low-shedding and hypoallergenic. By breeding these two together, we can get an F1 standard Bernedoodle or F1 mini Bernedoodle. These pups can be quite unpredictable as they have a random combination of traits from both parent breeds. This is usually done to make the next generation more hypoallergenic. The coat types of F1 can be either wavy, curly, or straight, whereas F1B coat types are usually curlier. As for shedding and hypoallergenic properties, F1 Bernedoodle pups are known to shed very little. F1B pups, on the other hand, shed even less since they have a higher percentage of Poodle in them. This generation is also more hypoallergenic. When we backcross this hybrid with a miniature Poodle, we get the F1b mini Bernedoodle. The repeated backcrossing helps further reduce the F1BB mini Bernedoodle size. Just like the first generation, there is no guarantee that Bernedoodle F2 will be perfectly hypoallergenic as they may inherit the genes for shedding from either parent. In a litter of F2B mini Bernedoodles, you can expect to find a wider variety of coat colors and patterns. Save Big On Dog Essentials! Welcome to our pack! There are various types of Bernedoodles, but always ask the breeder about the percentage of each breed to find the pup that best suits you. F1b Bernedoodle via zucca. In comparison to F1 Bernedoodles, F1b Bernedoodles have a much curlier coat due to the higher percentage of Poodle genes. F1b Bernedoodles look slightly more like a Poodle than a Bernese Mountain Dog however there is so much variation with mixed breed dogs that it is hard to predict exactly what they will look like. F1b Bernedoodles may be leaner and taller than F1 Bernedoodles. Additionally as F1b Berendoodles have a higher percentage of Poodle genes, they are more likely to have a wider range of coat colors like a Poodle instead of the standard tri-color coat of a Bernese Mountain Dog. Yes, F1b Bernedoodles generally have curly hair however it can also be wavy. Most F1b Bernedoodles will not have tight curls but will rather have loose curls or waves. If you want a Bernedoodle with a very curly coat, consider getting a F1bb Bernedoodle however if you are okay with getting a wavy coat, an F1b Bernedoodle mya be suitable. They are leaner and taller than the standard Bernedoodle. That being said, they still have many of the physical characteristics of Bernese Mountain Dogs such a a squarer face shape and their coloring. This means that F1b Bernedoodles have curlier, more hypoallergenic coats and usually have a leaner, taller build. This means that F1b Miniature Bernedoodles have curlier, more hypoallergenic coats and usually have a leaner, taller build. It is quite subjective as to whether an F1 or F1b Bernedoodle is better. Many people view F1b Bernedoodles as better as they are more hypoallergenic and better for allergy sufferers. People who prefer Poodles over Bernese Mountain Dogs may also view F1b Bernedoodles as better as they have more temperament and physical traits of Poodles. However, other people view F1 Bernedoodles as better as they have more hybrid vigor and benefit more from the health benefits of cross breeding than later generations such as F1b Bernedoodles.

Panosteitis is a painful inflammation of the outer surface or shaft of one or more long bones of the legs. It is sometimes called growing pains. Panosteitis may occur in more than one bone at a time or may move around, causing a shifting lameness that goes from one bone or leg to another. Crash At what age do German Shepherds start having hip problems? There is no specific age for hip problems. The signs of hip issues can be seen as early as 4 months of age. Osteoarthritis and hip dysplasia are often seen. The inflammatory signs of hip displacement are visible depending on the size, nutrition, and management of your dog. Hip dysplasia German Shepherd signs There are different signs and symptoms which can tell that German Shepherds have bad hips. They are listed as follows: Reduced movement Challenge or refusal to walk , climb stairs, etc. Idiocy at the back Grip the joint while moving Deterioration of bone mass of lower leg The shoulder muscles are noticeably enlarged by compensating for the back end Distress Tips to Make German Shepherd Back Legs Stronger 1. Proper weight management German Shepherds who are overweight are more prone to hip dysplasia. Weight management is the key tool to help avoid hip dysplasia. Being overweight results in overburdening of the hind legs resulting in displacement. Proper exercise Use the appropriate exercises to strengthen the hind legs. It also results in proper contraction and relaxation of muscles attached to the bone. It also helps in the management of weight. Proper diet plan Always provide a proper diet for your German Shepherd. A proper diet is required for the proper growth of bones. Always consult a veterinarian, a dietitian, or a nutritionist for the formulation of a diet plan. Always provide a high-quality feed. Supplementation Supplements are always useful in maintaining issues related to hip dysplasia. The injured joints can be helped with supplements like omega-3 fatty acids, chondroitin sulfate, collagen, and glucosamine. Physiotherapy Regular massage Massaging leg muscles is very helpful. Seek the help of a physiotherapist for regular massage. It helps in the reduction of pain and displacement issues related to the hip. Muscle strengthening and stability Adopt the techniques that are helpful in the stability and strengthening of muscles. Reduce injury chances Always monitor your German Shepherd while exercising. Exercise may result in injury. Always monitor and rush to the nearest vet if your German Shepherd undergoes some injury. Hydrotherapy Hydrotherapy is a good strategy to fight the issues of hip dysplasia. It involves swimming. It is a safe method of exercise and the chances of injury are less. Distinct cushion A specific type of cushion is available for the support of hip joint and leg joints. It provides help against the stiffness and rigidity of muscles. It also helps against knee hygroma issues. Acupuncture Acupuncture is the latest technique in healing to avoid hip dysplasia and other joint issues. Different techniques are employed at different pressure points of the body. Surgical Intervention Always visit your veterinarian for surgical manipulation in case of displacement or any issue like that. Degenerative Myelopathy Degenerative myelopathy is a disease that can impact the spinal cord of a German Shepherd. The initial signs of the disease are similar to canine arthritis or hip dysplasia, so it is often written off as a joint disease at first. However, the disease will eventually progress to knuckling of the back legs, severe lameness, and complete paralysis of the hind end. There is no treatment available for dogs with degenerative myelopathy, but strengthening the muscles in the hind legs is proven to slow the progression of the disease over time. This is why it is so important to keep your pup active over the years. Maintain A Healthy Weight Keeping your German Shepherd at a healthy weight is likely the most effective way to promote strength in their back legs. The extra pressure can lead to significant joint deterioration over time, especially if they are already experiencing the effects of arthritis or hip dysplasia. Obesity can even exacerbate these issues in dogs that may not have developed joint disease otherwise. When their joints are healthy, their back legs will naturally be stronger and more agile. The better your dog feels each day due to optimal nutrition, the easier it is for them to remain active. Keep Them Active Keeping your dog active is a wonderful way to help them build strength in their back end. Not only is a regular fitness routine essential in maintaining joint and muscle strength, but certain activities are known to improve back leg strength itself. Start Joint Supplements At 1 Year Due to how prone German Shepherds are to painful joint conditions such as arthritis and hip dysplasia, starting joint supplements at 1 year of age can be extremely beneficial. Joint supplements are often most effective when they are used as a preventative measure rather than after joint disease has already developed, as they can help to promote joint strength as the years go by. One of the many symptoms of joint disease is weakness in the hind limbs, so preventing these conditions can ultimately promote back leg strength in the future. Joint disease can lead to significant deterioration of the joints when it is left untreated, so you will want to start a joint management plan from the moment they develop symptoms. By monitoring your German Shepherd for any signs of discomfort, you can establish a joint care plan early in the disease process. By doing so, you can hopefully prevent so much joint damage from coming. Popular Articles:. Bookmark Wobblers Syndrome also called spondylolithesis , is a condition that can affect puppies or adult dogs. They develop an unsteady gait due to spinal cord compression caused by the narrowing of the vertabral canal, or by a ruptured disc in the neck. This causes the vertabral ligaments to become loosened and overstretched hypertrophy to the point of an inability to tauten properly when strength is needed. The vertebrae become malformed, or do not come together properly, which puts pressure on the spinal cord causing gait problems and moderate to severe discomfort. What Causes Wobblers Syndrome in Dogs? Rapid growth in large breed dogs and a predisposition to vertebrae conditions are considered factors for developing Wobblers. The definite causes of Wobblers Syndrome are unknown, but studies show that like other degenerative joint and ligament diseases, there might be a genetic factor hereditary , possible over stimulation, or perhaps even a nutritional imbalance. Great Danes and Doberman Pinchers seem to be most affected, with males twice as prone to the condition as females. Symptoms can appear in Great Dane puppies as early as 10 to 18 months although it is most commonly seen between 3 and 9 years of age. Signs and Symptoms of Spondylolithesis Symptoms of Wobblers Syndrome are progressive, and show up gradually as a dog ages. Signs of Wobblers Syndrome often begin with a mild, unsteady gait in the dog's hind legs. This "wobbly unsteadiness" often spreads to the front legs. In severe cases, the dog becomes wobbly when he walks and can even fall over when trying to turn. In some cases, the onset of symptoms is sudden, although that is infrequent. The early manifestation of Wobblers Syndrome in dogs can mimic other health problems such as arthritis, hip dysplasia or even an inner ear infection. Wobblers Syndrome is a serious and progressive condition in which an abnormality in the spine pinches the spinal cord. It's rare enough that you or your veterinarian may not recognize its symptoms at first, especially if your dog isn't one of the breeds where Wobblers Syndrome occurs most often. It's difficult to treat, but best if caught early. Why is My Dog Walking Funny? The dog may drag his hind toes as he walks, one of the typical symptoms. The stiffness may seem worse in his hind legs, and he may walk clumsily as if partially paralyzed. Note that he generally won't show signs of pain, such as whining or whimpering in the early stages. Clumsiness Falling when making sharp turns - Watch your dog's movements when turning a corner. A dog with Wobblers Syndrome may seem fairly normal walking in a straight line, but have difficulty making a sharp turn. He may appear drunk or uncoordinated or even fall down when turning quickly. At other times, he may walk with his hind legs spread wider than normal to give him added balance. Dogs with Wobblers Syndrome may carry their heads down or lower than usual and move them stiffly. If your dog is showing the symptoms above and other causes have been eliminated, ask your veterinarian to check him or her for Wobblers Syndrome. Since this disease is due to a compressed spinal cord in the neck, x-rays may help with diagnosis. Your veterinarian may also do a neurological exam and can also advise you about the benefits and risks of other tests, such as a more involved x-ray technique, the Mylogram, which may be more expensive or painful. Most veterinary neurologists today recommend CT scans or MRI scans for accurate diagnosis and localization. Unfortunately there is no simple cure for Wobblers Syndrome, but catching the condition early can help give you and your vet a chance to discuss the options for treatment or surgery to slow down or stop its progress. Prevention The best way to prevent Wobblers Syndrome is to feed large breed puppies a diet that will keep them from growing too quickly. Your veterinarian can help you determine which diet will work best for your dog. Many cases of Wobblers cannot be prevented because they are genetic in nature. It's best not to breed dogs that have the condition as they may pass it to their offspring. Treating Wobblers Syndrome Treatment for this condition can vary, depending on the severity of symptoms. Corticosteroids like prednisone can help reduce inflammation and help eliminate most symptoms. A neck brace can also help in serious cases because it stabilizes the spine and reduces inflammation. Pets suspected of having Wobblers Syndrome should not be walked with a neck collar and should be led exclusively using a harness. In some cases, surgery is recommended. The surgeon will fuse the unstable vertebrae together to relieve pressure on the spinal cord. This option is not always a good choice since other vertebrae can become compromised as a result of the surgery. However, this option provides the most chance for fixing the problem and prevention of any worsening of clinical signs. Your veterinarian will be able to help you determine what treatment option provides the greatest benefit to your dog. Post Treatment Options Since there is not yet a cure for Wobblers Syndrome, dogs suffering from this condition must be managed with medication and restricted activity, especially at times when they are experiencing the most discomfort. In some cases, a dog with mild Wobblers can live happily without treatment, while in other cases, treatment is required in hopes that the dog can live a normal life. Save on vaccinations, wellness exams, preventatives, dental, and more! This is because German Shepherds are intentionally bred to have a steeper angulation to the hind legs. The AKC breed standards for the breed, require German Shepherds to have as close to a degree bend as possible in their hind legs. Unfortunately, this steep angle in the back leg makes German Shepherds more susceptible to back pain and hind leg problems. After years of wear and tear, this makes them prone to serious leg problems as they age. For instance, studies have shown that German Shepherds are five times more likely to develop dysplasia as compared to Labradors, Rottweilers, and Golden Retrievers. A brief overview of these medical conditions: Degenerative Myelopathy Degenerative myelopathy DM is a neurological disease that makes German Shepherds slowly lose control of their hind legs. In the end, the dog may lose control of the urinary and bowel functions, and paralysis is a serious possibility. DM typically occurs in older dogs of about eight years or older, although it may also occur at a younger age. Unfortunately, there is no cure for DM. However, there are ways to reduce the suffering of your GSD because the condition progresses gradually. Therefore, treatment options for DM are geared towards ensuring a better quality of life rather than curing it. Most dogs with degenerative myelopathy will lose the function of their hind legs within six months to two years of diagnosis. Although there is no cure, regular exercise has been shown to improve the quality of life for dogs with DM. As a result, the ball of the hip joint causes pain as it glides roughly against the socket. Signs of hip dysplasia include a wobbly gait, lameness, limping, a decreased range of motion, and pain while walking. The most common causes of hip dysplasia include genetics, leg trauma, and environmental factors. In extreme cases of hip dysplasia, the dog may lose the function of their back legs and require a wheelchair. Arthritis may also occur due to the pressure exerted on the hip joint by hip dysplasia. Since GSDs are prone to hind leg weakness, they are at an increased risk for severe arthritis. Dogs with bad hips and arthritic joints may change their gait and walk lower to the ground, causing German Shepherd legs to appear even more bent. Signs of arthritis in German Shepherds include lethargy, loss of muscle mass in the hind limbs, reluctance to run, jump, or go up a flight of stairs, and stiffness in the hind legs. Prevention of osteoarthritis through proper dieting, exercising, and joint supplements helps to reduce the onset of osteoarthritis. Once osteoarthritis begins, the treatment is geared towards pain reduction, reducing inflammation, and improving the quality of life. Since osteoarthritis is difficult to detect in symptoms until the affected joints are badly affected, it is crucial to keep up with regular wellness visits with your vet. The best way to prevent these diseases is through genetic testing and following good breeding standards. This is possible by checking with your breeder for the hip score regarding hip dysplasia and proper parent matching to avoid degenerative myelopathy. Diet It works wonders for humans, and it will work for your best friend too. Since this breed is already a large-sized breed and the effects of breeding may be unpredictable, maintaining an optimal weight and observing a healthy, balanced diet is a wise precautionary measure. Some of the important dietary options to provide include ample proteins, vitamin D, vitamin K and magnesium, vitamin C, and vitamin E. You should also ensure that the dog food you buy for your German Shepherd is well-suited, with enough calcium and phosphorus for healthy bone development. Your vet may also prescribe bone and joint supplements such as glucosamine, chondroitin, green-lipped mussels, and collagen if they are required. An obese or overweight will experience increased mobility challenges. Second, regular exercise, especially walking and swimming, is important. Lastly, consult your vet on supplements or medications that may slow down the progression of DM. In any case, for these medical conditions , keep an eye out for changes in movement and contact your vet if there are any concerns. Some common symptoms that your German Shepherd may show include a wobbly walk, slipping on the floor, sitting crooked, hips giving way, swelling, lesser muscle mass in the back legs, and having a shorter stride on the hind legs. Remember that most dogs will not express pain or discomfort at first, so it is up to you to spot the symptoms if they do appear — This is especially important for degenerative conditions because when it comes to treatment, the earlier, the better! Regular exercise Regular exercising does two important things for your German Shepherd. One, it strengthens the hind and front leg muscles, and two, it helps you spot changes in the performance of the hind legs. This is the sit-to-stand routine. In this routine, you start with your dog sitting in front of you. Then, you move back a bit and call the dog to you. When he follows, give a treat to keep his interest and, once again, sit him down. Repeat as many times as needed. Taking your dog on daily walks up and down a hill especially or having swimming sessions will also strengthen the leg muscles and help in managing the weight. Hydrotherapy is especially beneficial for dogs dealing with mobility issues. Canine massage relieves fatigue and tension in the hind leg muscles and helps to spot any unrelated pain that may be a sign of something to watch out for. How to massage your dog: Compress the muscle against the bone with your flat hand using both your palms and fingers. Glide your hand along his spine, following the lay of the fur. Apply semi-circular strokes on the muscular areas of the back legs. Using a support harness Sometimes, it is crucial to moderate the pressure that your shepherd applies to the back legs when he moves about. This is where the support harness comes in. A harness helps to remove some of the stress that the dog may be feeling when taking walks, for instance, until the muscles of the back legs are strong enough to take it. The use of the harness reduces the pressure placed on the bad back legs and makes it easier for your dog to walk. Keep them at a healthy weight and ensure they get plenty of exercise. Even if your GSD is battling a degenerative illness affecting his mobility, you can explore treatment and supportive methods that will enable a good quality of life. German shepherds are known as a very resilient and strong breed. Your dog will match and appreciate any effort you put into ensuring his good quality of life. Related Articles:. This will gradually build their hind leg muscles. This forces your dog to put more strain on their back legs, helping to build muscle, and uneven surfaces help improve balance and exercise different muscles. This helps exercise their core muscles as well as their hind legs. This exercise helps to build hind leg muscles. Hydrotherapy is highly effective in building back leg muscles, and classes and facilities are available that specialize in this type of therapy for dogs with mobility issues. Weight Management: Maintain a healthy weight to reduce stress on joints and prevent injury. This popular joint supplement is often given to large dogs like German Shepherds. Green-Lipped Mussel: When combined with glucosamine and chondroitin, the green-lipped mussel can help reduce pain and maintain joint function in dogs with mobility issues. This supplement supports overall joint health and can help your German Shepherd feel more comfortable moving around. Fish Oil: Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids, which can help reduce inflammation and improve joint health. Vitamin E: Vitamin E can help improve muscle strength and reduce muscle damage. Last fall, Jedi was in bad shape. The two-year-old German Shepherd's health had waxed and waned for months. His owners and local veterinarian saw that Jedi was in pain and suffering from hind limb ataxia, meaning he was losing balance and coordination in his back legs. Assistive Devices: Wheelchairs, mobility harnesses, and slings can provide support and improve mobility for German Shepherds with weak back legs. Recognizing Symptoms of Weak Hind Legs in German Shepherds German Shepherds are prone to hind leg weakness, which can be caused by various factors such as hip dysplasia, arthritis, and spinal cord issues. Limping Or Favoring One Leg: Your German Shepherd might limp or put more weight on one leg to compensate for the weakness in the other leg. Difficulty Standing Or Sitting: Struggling to stand up or sit down can indicate discomfort or weakness in the hind legs. Decreased Activity Levels: A decrease in interest in playing, going for walks, or heading outside may signify discomfort or weakness in the back legs. Swelling Or Pain In Joints: Swollen hips, stiffness in joints and legs, or signs of pain in the back legs can be indicators of an underlying issue affecting hind leg strength. Here are some common causes: 1. Arthritis: This degenerative joint disease can affect German Shepherds as they age. It can cause pain and stiffness in the hind legs, making it difficult for them to move around. This genetic condition can cause the hip joints to develop abnormally, leading to arthritis and hind leg weakness. It can be diagnosed through X-rays. Canine Degenerative Myelopathy: This progressive neurological disease affects the spinal cord and can cause hind leg weakness and paralysis. It is usually seen in older dogs. Diabetes: Diabetes can affect the nerves in the hind legs, leading to weakness and loss of coordination. Fibrocartilaginous Embolism: This spinal cord injury can occur when a piece of cartilage breaks off and blocks blood flow to the spinal cord. It can cause hind leg weakness and paralysis. Limited Mobility: Dogs that are overweight, have poor muscle tone, or have been inactive for an extended period of time may experience hind leg weakness due to limited mobility. To maintain them, provide proper nutrition, exercise, weight management, joint supplements, physiotherapy, injury prevention, and care, and consider alternative therapies or assistive devices if necessary. Common causes of hind leg weakness are arthritis, hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, diabetes, fibrocartilaginous embolism, and limited mobility. Consult a veterinarian if you suspect hind leg weakness. Some German Shepherds may begin showing signs of hip dysplasia as young as four months old, while others develop osteoarthritis as they age. However, in many cases, the signs of hip dysplasia become apparent once the dog is around two years old. To reduce the risk of hip dysplasia in offspring, ensure that only German Shepherds with healthy hips are bred. If you notice your German Shepherd whining when walking , limping, hesitating or showing reluctance when moving its back legs, it may have hip dysplasia. The first sign of pain in young dogs may appear as difficulty climbing stairs, jumping into a car, or exercising freely. If you suspect hip dysplasia, consult a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Yes, a German Shepherd can recover from hind leg weakness with proper treatment, exercise, and diet. Recovery depends on the underlying cause, and it is best to speak to a veterinarian for a plan of action. Justin Author Justin is a protection dog enthusiast. Recently we welcomed our 3rd child and decided it was time to split the work without compromising the experience for our adopting families. Now we are working along side Lone Oak Goldens, my dear friend Lori. This decision is not one we took lightly as our reputation is very important to us but I knew her care and expertise would only make us better! I could not imagine a more wonderful partner. She raises them in her home in NE and brings them to my home when they are ready as most of our adopting families are in Colorado including many repeat families! Thank you for taking the time to read about us! Our Philosophy! We believe dogs and puppies should be unconditionally loved and cared for as they truly become part of your family. Our reason for raising English Creme Golden Retrievers is because of our love for the breed and the joy our dogs have brought to our lives. We desire an extraordinary puppy for your family too. We look forward to meeting you soon! Sincerely, Libby and Lori. Breeders VS. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. For more about the true price of a golden retriever puppy, you can read our full price breakdown here. Location Information for Colorado Customers Our home office is located in Ohio, but we understand that long-distance travel can be inconvenient. If you prefer to meet a breeder in person, they may be able to offer private visits at their home. Of course! Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. We have two acres, fully fenced in the rural part of the city. We have a number of retired and still active breeding dogs that live with us, however, most of our dogs live in guardian homes. These wonderful guardian families provide love and support to our breeding dogs to ensure they are in the best physical and mental health. Our puppies are born in their own puppy nursery, right beside the kitchen, in a warm and clean, as well as safe, dog friendly environment. Once the pups are 6 to 7 weeks old we start to socialize them into family life by providing play time to take place where they are exposed to my other dogs and the hustle of family life. Some of our pups are raised in the guardian family's home for the first 6 weeks, coming back to my home once they are weaned from Momma. We understand that this represents a significant investment. However, the costs associated with raising a litter of high quality dogs from fully health tested parents are significant. The value of this health testing is passed on to the adopting family with much lower risk of health issues in the offspring. Further, we provide you a two year health guarantee that gives you a choice of our covering the Vet fees for any genetic or hereditary illness in the first two years of the life of your dog OR a replacement dog at no cost. All dogs are spayed or neutered. Read each bio very carefully, as not every rescue Frenchie is suited to every home. Our adoption fees offset only a portion of the veterinary expenses for the dogs in FBRN. As these costs rise we have had to increase the adoption fees as one measure to try to keep up with expenses. Our Available Dogs page is updated weekly, so check back often! We are currently reviewing the applications that the dog has already received. Please do not attempt to apply for a dog with a Pending Adoption banner. Your application will not be processed without the fee. If you experience any problems completing the application or you do not receive an auto confirmation for your application, please contact FBRN at [email protected] Thank you. Fees have recently risen. You may see some dogs of the same age have different fees. We elected not to raise the fees on dogs that were posted before the increase. Our fees can be found on the Adoption Info page. Any communication will come through email. In the nineteenth century, the Bulldog was fairly popular in England, especially around Nottingham. Dog dealers brought more of the clownish little dogs to France, where they soon became the rage of Paris. The dogs were dubbed Bouledogue Francais. How big do French Bulldogs get? Read our full affiliate disclosure. French Bulldog Rescues In Colorado This beautiful creature known for its bat ears and half-flat skulls is one of the favorite dog breeds to keep as a pet by the people of Colorado and in the United States as a whole. According to the American Kennel Club, this breed is the 4th most popular dog breed kept as pets in the United States. This is not surprising because these dogs are beautiful and make loyal and doting pets. This sets them apart from most other dog breeds and make them a perfect companion for couples and homes looking to complete their family. What you might find strange is that some of these beautiful dogs are left in dog rescues in Colorado. Others do not have living conditions that allow them to keep dogs or they move and cannot bring their french bulldog with them. Then there are the stories of people who get these dogs without knowing how to love them. So they take them to french bulldog rescues in Colorado where they are then rehomed. These rescues are charged with finding new forever homes for their french bulldog rescues. So if you are looking for places to find a french bulldog to take home, you are in the right place. We will give you a list of our favorite french bulldog rescues in Colorado, and we will include their adoption processes and how to contact them. As more and more people get used to working from home in Colorado, they seek a dog to keep them company. This article is birthed from a desire to help those in Colorado to find the perfect french bulldogs for their homes. Adopting a dog from a rescue is relatively cheaper than getting one from a french bulldog breeder. It is also advantageous if you do not have the patience to handle a puppy, as most of these dogs are fully grown and may already be house trained. Before we start, we would like to reiterate that getting a french bulldog from rescues in Colorado might not be easy, even if you contact the rescues we have listed here. If you are fortunate, you might contact them at a point when there is a french bulldog ready for a new home. They are a c3 nonprofit located in the Rockies of Colorado. Their mission is to provide french bulldog rescue services to the people living in these parts of the state. They search and rescue french bulldogs, then rehabilitate them and find new and deserving homes for them. The beautiful thing about this rescue is that they have a detailed website. It contains everything an interested party needs to know before adopting a dog. French bulldogs that are up for adoption are listed on their website, with a detailed note about each one. This also includes the amount of training they have, what they like to eat, and any medication the dog might be taking. The adoption process for this rescue is very straightforward. There is an online application that you fill out and submit for review. If you meet the requirements and your application is accepted , you will be invited to the rescue to sign an adoption contract. There is a wait time after the submission, so while they decide, you will get more time to think about how sure you are about getting a french bulldog. Your application does not mean that you are entitled to a dog. This rescue receives more applications each day. They do not have enough french bulldogs to meet the sheer amount of applications they get. They reduce the number by placing a few requirements in the application process. Some of these requirements include: Applicant must have volunteered for the rescue at least once. These requirements are not surprising, seeing that they are a nonprofit and require funds to stay functional. Once you have signed the adoption papers, you make the payment and pick up your french bulldog. If you are not ready for the commitment getting a bulldog requires, you can volunteer or donate to the rescue. That way, you would still contribute to giving the dogs a good life till they get a new forever home. This rescue lists their available dogs for adoption here.

Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. We even have all types of golden retrievers for sale! At My Golden Retriever Puppies, we pride ourselves on our golden retriever price being fair and affordable for high quality puppies. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. She picked out Dennis the day we came to see the puppies. She kept sitting on his foot whenever he held another puppy. She alerts me every morning when he gets up and loves to clean his beard. We can't wait until she is old enough to go through service dog training so she can go everywhere with us! She is the bright spot in our long and rough journey. We thank Timber Creek Goldens for all the love they give their dogs and the new families they help with their puppies. He was easy to train and has the sweetest demeanor. Couldn't have asked for a better experience from Timber Creek! He is one of the only two breeders I will communicate with. Jordan knows his dogs, business, and is very informative. His vet is also pleasant to talk to. I couldn't be happier with the buying process and how he treats not only his dogs, but his customers as well. Finn is beautiful and such a sweetheart. Thank you so much. Matthew Cook;Anchorage, Alaska Short version: these folks are the best, no questions asked. We adopted Marlin, and he is about as perfect as a puppy that anyone could ask for. He is very healthy and has a wonderful temperament. I would say that the bloodline is top notch. Marlin wants nothing other than to just chill with his family. He is so gentle and loyal, when off a leash he rarely goes more than ten feet and always comes right back. He took to our girls, literally, instantly after getting home. He follows them everywhere! He is super snuggly and lovable. Timber Creek has excellent communication and super speedy replies. Every question I asked had an answer instantly, no "uh, let me check" or anything like that. They treat customers as friends, I was at the vet and had a question so I called. Unknowingly, I interrupted them outside with their family yet I still had everything answered. In my opinion; Timber Creek is easily amongst the best breeders around. Just over all friendly and easy to work with. I could not recommend getting a puppy from them enough! In a couple years or so, we plan on getting a second puppy from them! They are rambunctious and playful but also cuddly and sweet and LOVE having their bellies scratched. It is difficult to get a pic of them because they rarely hold still but here they are at 13 weeks today! Thank you, Jordan, for breeding and raising such special pups that have brought our family so much joy and love! Devon Truitt, Arkansas Man, we love this girl. My husband and I brought her home around Halloween and she has been just the best since then. In the past month she has really started to mature and come in to her own. We love her so much! Thank you Timber Creek for this wonderful addition to our family! From helping us make the perfect selection to the final follow up emails making sure everything with Gracie's transition went well. It was an easy, transparent, and seamless process. It's hard to put into words the happiness she has brought into our lives. We can't thank Jordan and his family enough! Dara Dossett, Arkansas I can't thank you guys enough for this sweet angel. Dolly has not had one accident since I got her and she immediately goes potty when we go out. She is the biggest cuddle bug and has adjusted so well! I put her in bed with me last night and she didn't make a peep. I got up at and but that was me waking her up. She went right back to sleep when we came back to bed. Such and incredible blessing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Jordan and Victoria are incredible from the first conversation of interest- to flying our baby to California for us! We are so in love with our little lady. She is so calm and curious. They not only have beautiful dogs, but just the loveliest to work with. I highly recommend them!! Thank you guys so much!! From the time I first contacted them about getting a puppy, they've been helpful. The process was smooth from purchasing to having our beautiful little girl shipped to Lexington, Kentucky. They updated me with pictures as she was growing, reaching out to check on her, answering any questions about puppy care I've had, and truly care about the puppies they provide. I have had an exciting experience preparing for Beretta's arrival and was in love with her the moment I picked her up. She's been well taken care of and am thankful for the opportunity to raise her as my own. Tamara Warren, Nevada I chose Timber Creek Golden Retrievers after losing both my male and female Golden's recently because of the dedication to responsible breeding Jordan adheres to. I received my first puppy female in late October and I could not be happier. As a result, I have since reserved another female from an upcoming litter and anxiously await her arrival in late January .I have had Golden Retrievers for most of my life and I must admit that my pup is probably THE most intelligent and yes energetic of any dog I've ever had. Jordan is an absolute delight and is incredibly responsive, patient and informative. As a business owner myself these are qualities that I most admire. He has a client for life and my utmost respect! My lifelong dream was to own and breed show dogs. After testing the waters with different breeds, I fell in love with the Golden Retriever. My brother and his wife got a puppy from Kala Goldens and it was then that I decided that this was the ultimate breed for me. As with a lot of stories, my first Golden did not turn out for show, but after many years I found Karen Brady KaraGold in Florida and bought my Sissy, who easily finished her championship and went on to become my foundation bitch. My husband and I live on an acreage in Goddard, Kansas, just outside of Wichita. We love spending time with our four legged friends. In fact Jim, who is an Equine Veterinarian, would have a hard time unwinding at the end of the day without taking his buddies for a long walk and a swim. We love our home and our family and hope for many more years of showing and breeding Goldens. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
