Colors and Fur Our Premier Bernedoodles will be traditional tri-color much like a Bernese Mountain Dog , abstract tricolor similar to a traditional tricolor with less white in the face , sable similar to a traditional tri-color but has more reddish-browns due to the poodle genetics we use , phantom, merle, merle tricolor, or bi-colored brown and white, black and white, or shades thereof. Our F1b's will consist of black and whites, traditional tricolors, abstract tricolors, and lots of variable brown and reddish brown and whites. Color never reflects temperament and personality so usually most people don't really care too much what color they are. They are all really beautiful. Although there's variation due to the hybrid vigor present as a result of the recombination of genes in many arrays, there is definitely a bernedoodle appearance that is fairly consistent. If you let the hair grow, they will look like big shaggy dogs that you can't help but to give a big hug to. And they enjoy every minute of it! Our Premier Bernedoodles will tend to have wavy curly coats due to the coat types we require in our bernese mountain dogs which helps to minimize or eliminate shedding.We do make sure that our standard poodles do not carry the genetic marker known as the "Improper Coat" allele or IC for short. Wavy curly coats do require a little more grooming as compared to straight, but many, straight coats shed more.Although they are considered to be large, they don't act like a large dog in the house. They are generally very careful and calm natured as adults however they do have some puppy-fun energy thru the puppyhood stages and thru 3 years of age. They love people and other pets! We do thorough genetic testing of our adults that we use in our breeding program to assure that you are purchasing the healthiest of bernedoodle puppies. Our Bernese mountain dogs come from very long-lived blood lines in Western Europe and these longer lifespans is one of the many reasons we obtain our Berners from several specific populations known for their longevity. Obviously we can't guarantee lifespan as there are many variables outside of our control not to mention, environment, stress, climate, food, etc. But track record seems to show a longer lifespan. What's the Difference? An F1b is an F1 standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle or could be a backcross to a Bernese mountain dog but we generally use the poodle as the backcross. An F1bb is an F1b standard Bernedoodle backcrossed to a standard poodle. Behaviorally they are all very similar with the F1b and F1bb's being slightly smaller than our F1 standards and tend to have slightly curlier coats to a tight wave. They have been communicating with their siblings for the past 8 weeks using their mouth. During their normal daily interactions, you will occasionally hear a loud "yelp" in response to one biting another too hard. This yelp usually ends the mouthing behavior. Now puppies have fur and people generally do not. When you bring your bernedoodle home, they will likely display some degree of mouthing behavior toward their human family. On March 15, , Charlie Bird , was adopted by Valerie. Charlie Bird is only one of our Special Needs fosters who came into GMPR by way of breeder surrender at the young age of only 10 weeks old. An English Bulldog, Pug, Frenchie mix, he was incontinent and mobility challenged. But we knew if we could find a home for him, it would have to be a very special one. He was placed with one of our seasoned Hospice fosters as we were not sure of his prognosis, or how much time we would even have with this special little guy, but we knew he needed around the clock care. The kind of care that makes our Hospice program so very special. Valerie has fostered for GMPR for many years, always raising her hand to take the hard cases. The blind, deaf, incontinent, mobility challenged, those with only precious time left, the heartbreakers. Charlie met with a Neurologist to diagnose his condition and sure enough, it was in fact Spina Bifida. Multiple diaper changes per hour, multiple baths per day, little Charlie is quite the handful. But, Charlie is otherwise a happy, healthy pup who is just THE sweetest soul. Carefree, happy-go-lucky, playful and loves everyone he meets, 2 or 4 legged. But one of those pop-up, necessary expenses that exist when we open our rescue to any dog in need. So while Charlie made it out of Hospice Care and has a long life ahead of him, he is just an example of one of these special cases that illustrates our dedication to the animals we serve. Staff at the centre in Slutcher's Lane, Warrington, said Petra was anxious when she first arrived but has since made "great progress". The three-year-old has spent limited time living inside a house and will make a "wonderful companion" for owners who have experience of large breeds and nervous dogs. If you find Petra, there will be a tennis ball - or ten - in sight, which is why we feel an activity like fly ball would really suit her. Even though she has her fears, the amount of love she has to give is endless. Centre staff have also been getting her used to travelling in a car. Her new owners will be given support and guidance to help with this. The centre is looking for an adult-only home with no other animals for her, ideally with people who have had experience of large breeds and dogs of a nervous disposition.
