And some pugs struggle with stomach issues and allergies. Avoid processed by-products and meat derivatives. Look for complex carbohydrates, including whole grains, sweet potatoes, and other vegetables, to provide fiber and energy. Puppies need more calories to fuel both activity and growth. As adults, the calorie requirements level out. The energy demand often decreases in the senior years when dogs become less active. Puppies: In general, a pug puppy needs about 50 calories per pound of body weight. Adults: Full-grown pugs require about 40 calories per pound of body weight. Each breed inherits some genes that can be associated with certain health issues. Here we list the most common Pugs health issues and how certain nutrients can reduce risk. A quick reminder: if you think your special pal suffers from any of these conditions, schedule an exam with your veterinarian to confirm your suspicions. Even with healthy dogs, these dietary recommendations may help prevent future problems. Portosystemic Shunts The Pug has a high risk for portosystemic shunts. Normally, blood with toxins and waste materials from the body organs travels to the liver for filtering. When animals are born with a shunt, the blood bypasses the liver and heads back to the rest of the body. If your pup has a portosystemic shunt, it may have stunted growth, be lethargic, have a wobbly gait, experience seizures, become aggressive, or demonstrate other symptoms. While surgical correction can help in some cases, medication and special diets can also help stabilize affected dogs. The key is to feed a low-protein diet with quality, digestible ingredients. Eye Problems Those adorable bug eyes can predispose pugs to eye conditions including: Corneal ulcers Cherry eye, usually due to an irritated tear duct Eye injuries Entropion or an eyelid that rolls inwards and irritates the cornea If your pooch has red or watery eyes or seems to be rubbing his face, talk to your veterinarian. But regardless of the underlying condition, you can provide nutritional support for good eye health. Offer fresh, high-quality ingredients from various sources including: Orange vegetables that are rich in beta-carotene, such as pumpkin and carrots Blueberries and other antioxidant-rich fruits Dark green vegetables like broccoli and kale for phytonutrients Oily fish such as salmon and sardines to provide omega fatty acids Avoid foods that have fillers, simple carbohydrates, cereals, and highly processed ingredients. These materials can trigger food sensitivities and allergic reactions that cause dull, runny, crusty eyes. Bone and Joint Problems Due to their specialized breeding over the years, pugs are genetically prone to developing joint disorders including: Hip dysplasia — the hip socket is malformed causing excessive movement in the joint. Over time, the friction damages the cartilage and causes degenerative arthritis. Luxating Patellas — the knee joint is too shallow, and the kneecap pops out of place, usually during exercise. The result is intermittent lameness or hobbling. Over time, there can be damage to the joint cartilage. Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease — inadequate blood flow to the femur causes the femoral head to die and become necrotic. Lameness usually shows up in puppies. The best solution for this condition is the surgical removal of the ball of the femur. Provide high-protein diets using quality, lean muscle ingredients for essential amino acids. The formula should have a proper balance of calcium and phosphorus to support the bones. Products that supply glucosamine and chondroitin promote healthy joint function. Look for healthy fat sources that provide omega fatty acids to help manage any inflammation. Skin Disorders Pugs have a characteristic, wrinkly skin that makes them susceptible to bacterial or fungal infections. Additionally, this breed can suffer from hair loss or alopecia. Look for formulas that are rich in antioxidants, vitamin E, and omega fatty acids. Seizures and Epilepsy Pugs can suffer from epilepsy and seizures, which are sudden surges of brain activity. If your furbaby has signs like muscle tremors, twitching, or loss of bladder or bowel control contact your veterinarian for a work-up. Proper nutrition that can help support your furbaby includes: Healthy, quality fats including sources of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. These ingredients help to manage inflammation and may help to decrease the severity and frequency of seizures. Because allergies can trigger seizures, avoid common allergens such as soy, dairy products, and gluten-containing materials. Provide protein-rich products with quality ingredients and digestible complex carbohydrates to provide adequate energy. This condition involves inflammation and death of brain tissue. Symptoms include: Circling. Although these dogs may not be very large in terms of their size, they do have big personalities and they love everyone they meet. The Pug is a very friendly and loyal breed that forms strong bonds with its human companions — they also love to meet new people. Pugs were originally developed as a companion pet and they continue to serve that purpose today. These little dogs have wrinkled skin and short faces which sometimes leads to breathing problems, but a healthy diet will help to keep your Pug in good shape. Like all dogs, the Pug requires a balance of nutrients in his diet — the most important nutrients are protein, fat, and carbohydrates. Protein is the most important consideration and it should come from high-quality animal-based sources like fresh meats and meat meals. Just be sure that the meat meal comes from a named source like chicken meal or salmon meal rather than a generic source like poultry meal or a byproduct meal. In addition to protein, your Pug also requires healthy fats in his diet. Fats are particularly important for small-breed dogs because they provide concentrated energy as well as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids to support skin and coat health. The third most important nutrient for dogs is carbohydrates which provide your dog with vitamins and minerals as well as dietary fiber to promote healthy digestion. Dogs do not have specific requirements for carbohydrates but this nutrient should come highly digestible sources like whole oats and brown rice. If you are worried about food allergies, look for a product that uses gluten-free and grain-free carbohydrates like sweet potato and tapioca starch. These formulas are typically more energy-dense and nutrient-dense than large-breed formulas because they need to provide your small-breed dog with the calories and nutrients he needs in a smaller portion size. Small dogs like the Pug should be fed more frequently during the day than large-breed dogs to make sure their metabolisms stay at the right level. You can feed your Pug puppy freely but when he gets older you should ration his daily portion into three or four small meals. This will ensure that his metabolism gets the fuel it needs without putting him at risk for obesity. In addition to being mindful of how much food your Pug eats, you also need to be sure he gets enough calories. Small-breed dogs like Pugs have much higher energy needs than large-breed dogs. Consider this — a pound Akita might need a total daily ration of 2, calories while an pound Pug might only need .If you divide it out, however, the Akita needs about 23 calories per pound of bodyweight while the Pug needs closer to 41 calories per pound of body weight. British Labs are shorter, slimmer, and have finer features than American Labs. Females typically run pounds and males run pounds. British Labradors come in three colors: black, Katie yellow, and dark reddish-yellow fox red. Temperament The British Labrador has been bred for centuries to have a calm and relaxed temperament. Unlike other breeds, these labs are calm and relaxed from the day they're born. British Labradors are a highly intelligent breed of dog that analyzes situations more so than other breeds. These calm, sweet, loving, and even-tempered dogs are easy to train and need a soft hand both on the field and at home. The easy-going temperament and playfulness New Friends of the British Labrador makes it the perfect choice for a family dog, as well as a hunting companion. They are especially good with kids. Hunting Ability Along with their calm nature comes a very strong drive to hunt and retrieve. British Labradors are kind of like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde - they're Indy at 5 Months mellow dogs that just hang out around the house, but put them in the hunting field and they turn into hunting machines. They're calm enough to hunt with handicapped hunters, yet have enough heart and drive to hunt for groups of hunters releasing over birds in one day. Many people find it hard to believe that there is such a difference in temperament and hunting ability Buster and Willow between the American Labrador and the British Labrador. What we've discovered is that a Labrador with a good pedigree, whether British or American, is typically bred from a line that contains many field trial champions. A British Labrador will have more calmness and hunting drive bred into it, while an American Labrador will be bred to be "amped" and to Katie withstand high pressure. This is due in large part to the way field trials are conducted in the UK versus in the US. In the US, AKC field trials involve dogs mechanically obeying commands - some of which are counter-intuitive to the dog - and retrieving dummies or dead game. In the UK, field trials involve live Willow Flushing a Rooster game and real-life hunting and shooting scenarios. Dogs must mark and then retrieve dead and wounded game. Finding and retrieving game is of utmost importance. In addition, dogs are not allowed to even whimper when on the line or they'll be disqualified. Therefore, British Labradors are bred for strong hunting and scenting abilities as well as a calm temperament. Above Buster all, the British Labrador's scenting ability is extraordinary and far superior to other breeds. They are exceptional upland game bird dogs and strong swimmers, making them excellent waterfowl dogs as well. See our labrador bitches here. British Labradors How we select our British Labradors. When selecting our Labradors for our breeding program, we carefully examine every aspect of the dog. If a Labrador has an undesirable trait, their offspring likely will, too. There are several non-negotiable evaluations that take place before considering a dog for our program, such as sound hips and elbows, a clear eye test, size within the breed standard, a proven pedigree, etc. Once we have checked all of those boxes, we look at the overall personality of the dog. We want dogs who have great social skills, good drive and style in the field, and a true off-switch when not working. This off-switch extends beyond napping in the kennel. Once we know a Labrador meets these standards, we evaluate several aspects of field work. We want to breed Labrador retrievers who love the water, have a natural delivery to hand, charge hard going out and coming back for a retrieve, and are able to use their noses to work heavy cover. Labradors who are in our breeding program are team players who love to work together with their handler in the field. Essentially, we only want to breed the type of Labrador that enhances the hunting experience. Our ambition is to breed British Labradors to meet two goals: to be excellent in the field and pleasant in the house. To ensure we are staying at the top of the game we are sending several of our dogs every year back to the UK to compete in Field Trials against the best of the best. Competing under real hunting condition is the only way to make sure our bloodlines continue to carry on the right traits. So far we are the only kennel in the US which produces dogs in the US who compete in the professional field at the highest level in England and Europe. Their outstanding abilities to cover a variety of tasks comes through a careful selection in the breed to choose the one with the WILL to Please. The willingness to work for you and be closer to humans than many other breeds makes the Labrador Retriever the most popular dog. In our kennel, we stick with this tradition along with meticulously selected hunting abilities which are based on being eager to work, drive and style, and the will to please. With Stefanie Latham former breeder of Ragweed's bloodline , the breeder behind the kennel, we have a knowledge of 30 years of breeding, training, and trialing successful Labradors all over Europe including the UK.

Confidence Protectiveness Husky Golden Retrievers are inclined to enjoy their alone time. They are not prone to having separation anxiety. However, it is not recommended to leave them alone for too long. You could find them trying to escape the house. Because of their nature, it is advisable to have this pet when you have a large backyard. This mixed puppy is known to be friendly and gentle to the family members. They usually get along with all the members and are affectionate to children too. They can be fans of cuddling. Golden Retriever Crossed with Husky puppies can be excellent watchdogs. With proper training and sufficient bonding with their owners, they are obedient and alert to suspicious people. They are quite protective of the family members when there is a threatening situation. Husky Mixed with Golden Retriever pups tends to have independent thinking. This trait comes from their Husky origin. At times, they may come off as obnoxious and act on their volition. They may be disobedient to your commands. When dealing with this behavior, it is crucial to remember that you need patience in caring for them. This mixed breed dog has a strong prey drive. They tend to chase smaller creatures. Be sure to keep an eye on other small animals such as cats and squirrels. Backyard Breeders Rescue Shelters Professional Breeders If you will spend money, I highly advise buying from professional breeders among these options. These people take good care of the dogs and prevent inbreeding to guarantee minimal health problems. Reliable breeders can provide you with results of genetic testing for the parent dogs and offspring, as well as records of vaccination and other pertinent documents. They also provide health clearances for the parent dogs. However, before buying from professional breeders, you can also consider visiting your local shelters to check if there is an available Golden Retriever Husky puppy and if you can adopt it. There are also rescue-centers that are breed-specific and non-profit. However, it is remarkable that the mixed breed of Golden Retriever and Husky do not shed much, and it is considered part of the low shedders. Aside from the aesthetic purpose of grooming, there are a lot more reasons to accomplish this activity. Developing a more intimate relationship Maintaining the cleanliness and physical health Bringing out the natural oil on the coat Avoid issues like bug infestations Checking anomalies and possible health problems Here is a list of the tools and equipment you will need for grooming this pup: Slicker Brush Cotton Ball Nail Clipper A regular grooming routine is essential in keeping the shiny and healthy coat of your Husky Golden Retriever Mix puppy. A fundamental step in the grooming routine is regular brushing using a slicker brush. Other steps include giving a bath, trimming the nails, and cleaning its ears. The use of a slicker brush over a pin brush is advisable due to its purpose of untangling mats or knots in the fur. Also, it helps in removing debris and loose hair. It can run through the thick layers of the double coat and facilitate effective grooming. Another advantage of this brush is its massaging quality since it has long pins. Massaging the skin of your pup will stimulate the production of essential oils for moisturizing the coat. Also, this will increase the blood circulation and promote health for the dog. This activity should be done at least once a week to decrease the amount of shedding and avoid matting of fur. In brushing the whole coat, you need to brush places of matting and thicker fur more diligently. If your dog has a collar, remove it when brushing the coat, and do not leave out the neck area unkempt. Cutting matted fur should only be done when you cannot brush out the mat. The next step is bathing your pup, especially when it is smelly and dirty. Some people proceed to trim the coat of the puppy before bathing it. It is your discretion if you will follow the steps to the dot. After lathering with shampoo and then rinsing the coat, you can opt to blow-dry the coat. The frequency of bathing will also depend on your decision, based on the smell and sanitary condition of the Golden Retriever Crossed with Husky puppy. After the bath, you will proceed to brush the coat again. Then, you will initiate the trimming process. In trimming, you should avoid trimming the entire coat. The double coat of your puppy functions as an insulation against the fluctuating weather. It also traps warm air on a cold day and cool air on a hot day. Usually, groomers use clippers for this process. However, you may opt to use thinning shears for cutting parts of the coat. You need to trim the fuzzy hair growth around the edges cleanly. You will trim the fur between the toes next. For cracked dog pads, you can apply Vaseline as a regimen. In trimming the legs, you will cut the unkempt fur to achieve symmetry and balance. The fur on the front of the legs is shorter than that on the back. The hair on the back of the legs should flare out slightly behind the dog. Similar with the legs, trimming the chest and neck should aim to remove the unkempt fur. It should be noted that you will move the thinning shears with the direction of hair growth. After the neck and chest areas, you will trim the fur around the ears. This step will help fend off parasites. Lastly, you will trim the tail. For this step, you will trim the length by tapering the tail, starting from the base to the tip. Part of the grooming process is checking for wax buildup in the ears and signs of an ear infection. You can clean their ears with a cotton ball and a dog-specific ear solution. You should never use a cotton swab for their ears. You can also use a cotton ball with mineral oil or microfiber cloth with mineral oil to remove debris from the eyes. The frequency of this activity depends on the rate of its toenail growth. Long names may break, and cause irregular gait and infection. If you do not have this much time in your hands, you should schedule appointments with trustworthy groomers around your neighborhood. Husky Mixed with Golden Retriever Puppies Health Problems Most of the Husky mixed with Golden Retriever dogs are free of fatal and congenital diseases, primarily because of their enlarged gene pool. Their average life span is 10 to 13 years. One condition you need to prevent is heat stroke. Since this breed has a dense and double coat, they do not tolerate heat as much as they tolerate cold weather. You should protect your puppy from overexposure to the sun and keep it well hydrated. Even if there is a reduced risk for the usual health conditions from the parent breeds, it is important to know the possible diseases your puppy may acquire, especially when it gets older. One these health problems is a cataract, an opacity of the eye lens. When your dog acquires this disease, its eyes will appear cloudy. One of the possible health problems is hip or elbow dysplasia. This is an inheritable disease wherein the thighbone does not attach properly with the hip joint. Elbow dysplasia involves joint laxity due to different growth rates of the bones of the elbow. Vaccinations are weapons against fatal diseases. There is a generally accepted guideline of puppy vaccination. Some of the recommended vaccinations are measles, rabies, and DHPP which is the combination of vaccines for distemper, adenovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus. By knowing the possible serious health issues of this mixed pup, you can be more watchful when your pup manifests some warning signs related to these possible conditions. Golden Retriever Mixed with Husky Food Requirements The following factors determine the amount of food you will give to your Golden Retriever mixed with Husky puppy: Age—choose a chow that is age-appropriate; our essential guides to the best puppy food brands and the best senior dry dog food will help you find the right one! Size—depending on the size, some pups will thrive on the best dry dog food for small dogs whereas others will be better off with the best large breed dry dog food Metabolism Level of activity The kind of food recommended for this mixed breed is dry food, preferably one of the brands featured in our best dry dog food guide. Commonly, medium to large dogs is given three to four cups of nutritious dog food, divided into two meals. Just like with human food, there are brands you should avoid at any cost. For your convenience, we singled out some of the worst dry dog food brands. Meanwhile, Golden Retrievers have a big appetite and are at risk for obesity. This classification means that you should provide them with lots of mental and physical stimulation. The duration of physical activity would be enough to maintain its weight and protect them from lifestyle diseases. I recommend walking, running, playing with Frisbee or tennis ball for your Golden Retriever Crossed with Husky puppy. If the Golden Retriever Husky mix puppy does not get enough physical and mental stimulation, it may exhibit behavioral problems. These problems include inappropriate barking, chewing, and causing property destruction. This breed is intelligent and fast learners. However, their independent side may antagonize your directions if training started late. An effective way to facilitate the training is by initially having short training sessions. To avoid possible destructive behavior that can be traced to their Husky origin, you should employ obedience training and leash training. You need to assert yourself as the leader by having consistency and clarity. A reliable way to do this task is making the puppy wait for its food. This act will establish your role as the provider and keeper of all the resources, such as the treats, food, toys, and other assets. During training, it is possible to encounter mischief and fluctuations in concentration. A way to prevent this situation is keeping the sessions short. However, you should be cautious and never leave your child and the dog alone. This action could aggravate and provoke the pet. Aside from the appropriate training for the dog, you should teach your child to avoid disturbing or playing with the pup when it is eating or sleeping. Golden Retriever mixed with Husky pups are affectionate to families. They have an innate loyal character, and they enjoy being around people. This trait is probably attributable to its Golden Retriever parent. These friendly furry friends consistently rank within the top 5 most popular breeds by the AKC due to their happy go lucky attitudes and capacity for companionship. With loyal, lively personalities, these furry friends love spending time and playing with their owners. This intelligent breed is relatively easy to train and needs frequent exercise to keep his tail wagging. These playful pups are medium-sized dogs, usually weighing between 50 and 75 pounds. These handsome dogs are known for their sometimes icy blue eyes and outgoing personalities. Huskies have a history as pups within a pack, so they do best in lively households with lots of loved ones be they two-footed or four-footed. Siberian huskies require plenty of exercise and mental stimulation on a daily basis. Due to their sometimes strong-willed personality, these pups will keep you on your toes when it comes to training. As long as their needs are properly met, the Siberian husky and husky mixed breeds make amazing, energetic family companions. These friendly four-footers do well with other pets, children, and strangers. With striking good looks and a sometimes dignified demeanor, the Siberian husky is sure to steal your heart. Goberian Traits and Characteristics While it can be difficult to pinpoint the characteristics of mixed breed dogs, here are some general guidelines of what you might expect from Goberians. Size and Shape: Goberians are medium to large sized dogs weighing between 40 and 70 pounds. Temperament: Goberian dogs are friendly and intelligent companions who enjoy spending time with their families. These mixed breed buddies tend to do well around strangers, kids and other pets. With a lively, athletic personality, these pups certainly need space to run around and require a good amount of daily exercise to keep their tails wagging. Coat and Colors: The double-coated Goberian can take on a variety of coat colors including black, white, cream, brown, and grey. These dashing dogs can also adopt the blue eyes of the husky, or have warm brown eyes, like goldies. Intelligence: These dogs are naturally pretty smart, so they should be fairly easy to train. Goberaian owners should ensure that their doggos are mentally and physically stimulated throughout the day. In addition, these people-loving pups may be prone to separation anxiety and need to get an adequate amount of daily exercise to stay at their best. Grooming: Goberian coats are likely to shed pretty heavily and need to be brushed on a regular basis. Health: Goberians are fairly healthy pups that live anywhere from 10 to 15 years. Here is a quick checklist to make sure a Goberian dog is the right fit for your family. You have a lively household. These loving dogs want nothing more than to spend time with their families. You love to exercise. These pups are naturally active and appreciate frequent playtime. You have plenty of space and a fenced-in yard. These medium-sized dogs love to play and will need room to roam and explore. You have enough time to engage with these active dogs. Before bringing home one of these best buddies, talk with your family members about the best way to delegate tasks and time surrounding your future pooch. While these smart dogs are happy to learn tricks for a treat, they can be stubborn at times. Ideal Goberian owners are patient, and determined to deliver consistent, positive training sessions to see their furry friends soar. These active, rambunctious dogs love to spend time with lots of people. Tracking down specific mixed breed mutts can be tricky, but here are a few pointers to keep in mind to find your furry friend. Scour the internet. Using specific breed filters on dog matching websites like petfinder can help you narrow down your search with just a couple of clicks. Talk to current Goberian owners. If you know any Goberian owners, ask them how they stumbled upon their furry best friend. They may be able to point you to a breeder or at the very least, in the right direction. Speak to parent breeders. Golden retriever and husky breeders may be able to connect you with a sweet Goberian mutt. Once you track down a Goberian, make sure your future puppy is coming from a reputable breeder. Doing so can help ensure that your potential puppy is a happy and healthy hound. Check shelters. You may be able to find a golden retriever and husky mix at a local animal shelter as well. Just keep in mind that most rescue Goberians will likely have a few other breeds mixed in them besides golden retriever and husky which makes them even more special and unique! Similar Breeds and Breed Mixes to the Goberian Are you still pondering whether or not these playful pups are the perfect fit for your needs? Here are some other similar breeds and mixed breeds to take into consideration. Saintberhusky: These sweet Saint Bernard and Siberian husky mixes are more laid back than their husky parents. Saintberhuskies are amazing family companions and do particularly well with children. Gollie: This border collie and golden retriever mix is insanely smart and dedicated to his family. These active dogs love to perform tricks for the ones they love. Golden Shepherd: This cross between a golden retriever and German shepherd produces a loyal, obedient canine companion that is fit for just about anything. These active, agile dogs require plenty of exercise to keep their tails wagging. Bassky: The bassky is a cross between the mellow basset hound and rambunctious Siberian husky. This unique blend results in a sweet, happy go lucky pooch that is always ready for the next round of fetch. Brittany Spaniel: Brittanys and most Brittany mixes are fun-loving, lively, and always ready to accompany you on your next adventure. The Brittany spaniel is eager to please and highly trainable. Red Golden Retriever And Husky Mix Temperament Predicting the temperament of any mixed-breed dog is tricky, and there is no certain way to know if your Goberian dog will take more after his Husky parent or vice versa. To get a better sense of your new Golden Retriever Husky mix, try to meet both of his parents and get a sense of their temperaments. Friendly The Husky and Golden Retriever mix is going to be a very friendly and people-oriented pooch. Like both of its parenting breeds, the Goberian likes to spend time and interact with people and is especially gentle towards children. Goberians form strong bonds with their humans and will love to spend time and cuddle with all family members. However, they tend to pick a special person, someone whom they favor more than anyone else and that person will have a special place in their hearts. Highly Energetic The Husky Golden Retriever mix is a very energetic and active dog that requires prolonged exercise sessions to stay happy and well-behaved. If not properly exercised, Goberians can easily get bored and will resort to destructive chewing, howling, barking, and full-blown mayhem! Goberians need up to 90 minutes of exercise every day, and enjoy swimming, running, hiking, or any other activity that gets the heart rate going. Independent Depending on how much it takes after its Husky parent, your crossbreed can be very independent and stubborn at times. Intelligent Both Huskies and Golden Retrievers are smart breeds, so your mix will be too. The greatest thing with owning an intelligent dog is that they are easy to train when properly motivated. Start training your puppy as soon as you bring it home and only use positive reinforcement. Using treats , play, toys, or cuddles as rewards can motivate your pooch to stay focused on training even if he is stubborn and this will make the whole process a lot easier for you. Goberians that take more after their Husky parent have a stronger wanderlust potential so it is wise to keep your pooch on a leash and have a fully fenced yard. Otherwise, be prepared to run miles to catch and bring your dog back home from exploratory adventures. While Goberians are generally healthy, they are prone to certain diseases that affect Huskies and Golden Retrievers. The most common problems seen it this mix are: Hip dysplasia. Julie has forgotten to take Pancake for his regular walk. That is why Pancake looks sad. Walks are an essential requirement for dogs and puppies, especially for the energetic ones like this skipper Pancake. Already have an account? The persistent smile on his face appeals to every creature, like this little bird. He loves prancing around on the grass, meeting new friends everywhere — from butterflies to bulls. No one has heard or seen him angry yet. One of the naughtiest canines in the neighborhood, he loves running, jumping, chewing, dancing, and scaring the cats! Cats hate him, and you are seeing why! So fill the sheet with flying colors. She is the sweetest compact ball of fur when she sleeps, and abundance of energy when awake. She is great at playing hide-and-seek as she can fit anywhere, like this sock on Christmas. Sandra has just given birth to three pups — Ralph, Gabe, and their sister Lucy. This new pack of Golden Retrievers loves chewing. Now Ralph and Gabe want the same sock to chew. So they are having their favorite game of Tug-of-War with the sock while Lucy calmly observes them. Soon, they might learn the famous game Dog-and-the-Bone, or Dog-and-the-Sock, whatever the case may be. Apparently, the puppy is either aware of her character in Dalmatians, or he has sensed evil in her. This is a rare sight where a pup is angry with a human. Otherwise, they are gleeful and playful creatures. Her name is Frooti. She is, like Susan, a good girl who loves playing with dolls. The two girls spend every moment together playing or cuddling. This sketch shows the first time when Frooti met Susan. Color her happiness as you see it. Perrito is happily giving her paw to Dora. Dora has taught her pup to shake hands by giving him treats whenever he did it successfully. By this method, dogs can be trained to do a lot of things — from fetching the ball to retrieving lost trekkers under the snow of alpine mountains. What would you teach your pup to do? That is because he has now befriended a friendly monster Elmo, whom he last saw in his favorite cartoon. Elmo also seems pleased to see Willy happy. Dogs are loved by everyone not by cats so much because they spread happiness everywhere. Potts had one son — Ace. He used to be sad because he had no one of his age to play with. Seeing his son sad, Potts got sad too. Then Joy arrived with her two sisters Amy and Lea, bringing joy to their lives. Both of them are fashionable divas. A few stitches here and there later, Paris gets a new attractive outfit. And she totally loves it. She is elated to see the colors of nature that are in abundance in the form of flowers, bees, and butterflies. Her happiness made her shine with such joy that her tail attracted a butterfly! So fill this sheet with shades of glee! So Scott came to visit Walter. Seeing his pal busy, he got excited and wished to help. This confused Walter. He is thinking if his pup is going to use his whiskers to paint or is he simply enjoying a new flavor? She has a special love for fruits and vegetables and bites them whenever she gets to. But this Halloween , she came across an angry pumpkin. She never gets scared, but now she seems confused. She wonders why other pumpkins never showed eyes, and teeth, and will it bite her? All his friends have come to the party. He got many gifts, balloons, and got to wear a birthday cap! He, being a good boy thanked his family. Color his day and turn it into a golden memory of a Golden Retriever. He is an amiable creature, with the strawberry-shaped eye patch being his most striking feature. He is probably named Pupcake because of his sweet smile. He is enjoying the spring in his garden with flowers all around. Color and tell him how colorful spring can be! This time he found a toy that was hidden five years ago by Stuart himself. Delighted by his excavation, his happy master Stuart decided to reward him appropriately. His reward was a bubble bath. Everyone looks pleased with this reward, except Dumpy, who would rather roll in mud and dance in the dirt. He just hates bathing! He ensures it stays that way by bathing him regularly. When Sam forgets, Todd attracts his attention by dancing around Sam. If you have one, you would never be short of affection and entertainment. They will just sit on your lap and enjoy the luxury. They will surely get you looking at them some way or the other if you put him off your lap. They love attention, so they show-off a lot. Compact, cute, clever — these qualities make them an ideal pet in an apartment. See if you can make this attraction-oriented pooch more attractive! The Lhasa breed originates from Tibet. Courageous and independent, they were used as palace guard dogs. They do things to please themselves, not you. So color this royalty as vividly as you can. Pups-in-a-basket is the most wonderful idea of a gift for anyone assuming everyone loves dogs. Here we have three Labrador Retriever pups. Labrador is the most popular breed of dogs. They are energetic, active, and friendly. One of their prime loves is food — they will chew and eat anything that fits their mouth. Sometimes, without exercise, they grow obese. So make sure they stay fit and healthy once you get them. They have brought along a basket full of bones of various flavors. The weather is fantastic, the sun is bright, and out of somewhere come the colorful butterflies floating in the serene breeze. Seeing this gorgeous view, Poppins is perplexed thinking whether to chase these beauties or peacefully gaze their flight. One is never enough for him. Throw six or seven of them, and you will see him bouncing along with them. Full of energy all the time, he sleeps longer than other puppies of his age, as he plays more than them. Look how he tries to juggle them now! No, it is not a breed, but a perfect description of this hydrophilic canine. She just loves swimming and getting wet. As spring has arrived, she is enjoying her pool bath in the garden. Maybe she is looking at her master, who is about to be splashed! She is out on a farm for a trip with her family. Her brothers are playing somewhere else while her curiosity brought her to the creatures she has never seen before. As she sniffs some chickens, the hens are getting amused by their new visitor. Maybe, she will make some new friends here! Here, Smiley, the pup is resting because he is tired of an outing in the lawn, where he played fetch. He ran, sprinted and jumped to the fullest. Now he must rest to regain his energy to play again the next day. Like this one — Tyson. Tyson is a quiet, disciplined, curious pup who never bothers anyone. Just give him a walk, feed him properly, pat his head, and he will stay happy and quiet. After a long game of hide-and-seek, you are seeing him drenched and sad. Here we see a family of Golden Retrievers sleeping together after an eventful day. They share their body warmth to comfort each other. When awake, you will see them bouncing around. Now, they peacefully sleep looking cuter than before. See how happy he looks! This is the way pups greet their master when they meet after a separation due to work or vacation. Strawberry Shortcake also looks glad to see him again. Color them and make them look happier! He is known for his cheerfulness, friendliness, discipline, intelligence, and good behavior. That is why he is called a good boy! We hope you liked our free printable puppies coloring pages as much as you love puppies. Share on Twitter Over the summer of , my wife and I tried something we'd never done before. We took our two Greyhounds and Whippet on an overnight trip to attend a Greyhound gathering in Southern Pennsylvania. It would require spending a night in a pet-friendly hotel. We weren't sure how that was going to work out. While the two boys - one a Greyhound, the other a Whippet are up for any trip out of the house, our girl, a Greyhound gets nervous about everything, including wind. We made the four-hour trip with no issues, and upon checking in, found that we were being put in a room on the second floor, completely opposite from where the dog walk area was located. The challenge would be using an elevator every time we needed to take the dogs out for their business. Using stairs would be difficult, especially for our male Greyhound since he broke his leg during his time at a Greyhound racetrack, and he doesn't do stairs well, especially two flights of them. Get our free mobile app Surprisingly, our girl and Whippet were no problem. Our male Greyhound though for whatever reason, did not like being in a hotel. It was a rough night, to be honest, and we didn't get much sleep due to his uneasiness. The rest of the trip went by with no major issues. I was appreciative that there was a hotel that allows pets in the room and wondered if there are any places in the Greater Binghamton area that allow pets. So, I went about asking the question on social media, got back some business names. If you know of any more, let me know and I will add them to the list. Just a bit of advice. These businesses were submitted from our question on Facebook, and some may have certain rules or no longer accept pets, so call ahead before bringing Fido along. ACTH is a hormone that instructs the adrenal gland to produce cortisol. Occasionally, tests such as X-rays or abdominal ultrasounds may be performed to rule out other causes of illness. Cortisol is supplemented with daily oral steroids, such as prednisone. Aldosterone is supplemented with an injection, such as Percorten or Zycortal, about once per month. Alternatively, an oral medication called Florinef may be used to replace both aldosterone and cortisol. Your veterinarian will help determine which supplementation is most appropriate for your dog and lifestyle. Treatment during an acute Addisonian crisis may include IV fluids and other IV medications such as glucose, medications to protect the GI tract and glucocorticoids after performing diagnostic tests. English Bulldog swims on a clean water pool. Here are a few examples to help you get started during your search: Skin Condition and Age The best shampoo for your English Bulldog should match its breed-specific coat and skin care needs. Several moisturizing formulas are ideal for treating itchiness or bacterial infections like skin fold pyoderma. Ingredients Consider looking for dog shampoo containing natural ingredients and vitamins, like aloe vera, vitamin E, oatmeal, and coconut oil. These formulas are less likely to cause skin irritation than a shampoo with harsh detergents, sulfates, and parabens. Fragrance Shampoos with artificial fragrances are more likely to trigger skin allergies in some English Bulldogs. In contrast, others recommend diluting it with water before applying it to your dog to reduce potential skin irritation caused by its concentrated ingredients. Consider bathing your English Bulldog every six to eight weeks to prevent escalating their potential skin problems. My wife and I love playing with our active miniature Labradoodle Max. We want all Oodle puppies to be healthy and happy, have lots of fun and be part of the family. Load More. I recommend bathing a Bulldog monthly or every two months. If you bathe a Bulldog any more than that, you are risking stripping him of natural oils. This can result in dry, itchy skin and a damaged, unhealthy coat. However, not bathing your dog enough can result in the opposite problem, leading to excessive oil buildup. This is why a consistent bathing schedule and a good, high-quality dog shampoo are so important. This product includes oatmeal to help alleviate any dry or irritated skin. It is also hypoallergenic, which means it is helpful for Bulldogs with sensitive skin or allergies. Best of all, this product is tear free! This brand is full of natural ingredients for sensitive skin. This product deodorizes that stinky Bulldog in need of a bath. However, our favorite thing about this product is the baking soda. Baking soda helps to alleviate itching while also working as a natural deodorant. This product is not only cleansing but conditioning, leaving your Bulldog clean and smelling fresh. It also strengthens and regenerates his skin cells with chamomile. However, we selected them for inclusion independently, and all of the views expressed in this article are our own. Leave a Reply Your email address will not be published. We should note that a medicated or anti-itch shampoo may not be necessary for your Bulldog, but we suggested them because Bulldogs are more prone to skin infections than other types of dogs. This is mostly due to their skin folds, which are part of the reason why we love them. But the truth is that these skin folds create a warm and moist environment for bacteria to grow in. But when given the right environment in which to grow, bacteria can multiply in such a way that it is unhealthy and can actually cause discomfort for your dog. If this happens, bacterial skin infections can occur, which can cause itchiness, skin redness, hair loss, and even skin crusting and flakiness. Bacterial skin infections often require a medicated shampoo to treat, which is why we suggested a few for you. However, your vet can also recommend a reliable medicated shampoo as well. The bottom line is that anti-itch shampoos are okay to use with Bulldogs in any situation, but not all Bulldogs will require a shampoo that is medicated. Conclusion We love English Bulldogs due to their wrinkled appearance, but those wrinkles can also lead to skin problems as well. If you need something medicated, there are several great options on our list for that as well. Whatever your Bulldog needs as far as shampoo goes, we hope you found it with our product suggestions and reviews. She is currently living in the United States with her husband and daughter. These conditions are usually not life-threatening; they can develop into serious infections that make your fur baby miserable. Because of these skin conditions and sensitivities, English Bulldogs require special types of shampoo to keep their skin healthy. These ingredients have potent antifungal and antibacterial properties. Deodorizer: a shampoo with a deodorizer can help your English Bulldog smell better, as these dogs do tend to have a strong odor at times especially if they have a skin condition. These ingredients work to reduce inflammation and itching. These ingredients are beneficial for the types of skin problems that many English Bulldogs may develop. If you have questions about whether these ingredients are right for your dog, then be sure to ask your vet. These two ingredients combined make a powerful treatment against parasites, bacteria, yeast, and fungi. This shampoo also contains a strong deodorizer, which helps to remove excess oils that can cause bad odors in English Bulldogs. Curaseb also contains aloe to help soothe the skin and help your dog stop itching. It also works to ease inflammation in the skin. pets4homes labradoodle puppies - This training process needs to be carried out properly for the safety of you, your dog, and anyone they come into contact with. Always check your town or state rules regarding attack dogs. Many regions ban such dogs. If your dog is caught engaging in a physical attack, you and your German Shepherd can be punished. You also need to be careful about how you train your German Shepherd. They should never attack someone unprovoked and should only ever be trained to do a minimal amount of damage. Failing to get this right can cause lawsuits, criminal charges, and other issues. This dog is a pet and should be treated as such. It is simply a bonus that they can protect you in the event of an assault or crime. It is unwise to teach your dog attack commands if you have children in the house. Children tend to unintentionally antagonize dogs. Serious injuries and fatalities are far more common with little children. What is the Function of an Attack Dog? Many people are unclear about the function of an attack dog. This is because the role has been twisted in the media. The first thing to be aware of is that attack dogs should never be aggressive. The main objective is to get that person to back down and eventually go away. Their function is to appear aggressive and to prove they are capable of being a physical threat. They simply need to be following a command. There is also the increased risk that your dog will go too far during an attack and do serious harm to someone else. Not every German Shepherd is a good choice to be trained for this role. There is some discrepancy in every breed and even within a litter. Proper training can help your dog to gain the appropriate skills, but temperament matters a great deal as well. As previously stated, you should teach an aggressive German Shepherd to attack. They may not be equipped to reign in their emotions during a pivotal moment and may fail to obey your commands. On the contrary, a shy German Shepherd will not be suitable for this role either. Socialization can help a wary dog to come out of its shell, but there is no guarantee. You will also have to cross further obstacles by teaching them the necessary attack skills. When specifically looking for a dog to train to attack, keep an eye out for a dog that is calm, approachable, friendly, and intelligent. These are signs that your dog will be easy to bond with and ensure they are trainable. These are important traits for a guard dog. Here are the top things you need to take into consideration before teaching your dog any attack commands: Why is Bonding a Fundamental Step? German Shepherds have a naturally protective streak, but this is only activated with people they care about and trust. This is why your first step in attack training is to create a good relationship with your German Shepherd. You have to begin to make a connection with your dog from the moment you bring them home. It can take weeks or even months for this bond to create and solidify. How can you bond with your dog? It is easy to bond with your dog — German Shepherds are people-centric and love spending time with people. The first thing to do is to make sure their basic needs are being taken care of. This includes food, water , exercise, and attention. The more time you spend, the closer you will become. Fun activities such as fetch will certainly help to cement this relationship. Positive reinforcement should also be the driving force in your interactions with your German Shepherd. Your dog values it a great deal and will take your reactions to heart. Raising your voice or showing any signs of anger or aggression can cause them to be wary of you. This is why your focus should be on rewarding positive behavior. Avoid using punishment and instead, find gentler ways of letting your dog know they have done something wrong. What is the Importance of Socializing Your Dog? Many individuals assume that a guard or attack dog should be wary of all people. A good guard dog needs to be properly socialized starting at a young age. The last thing you need is for your German Shepherd to consider everyone a threat. This can make it difficult for you to go on walks and will also increase the chances of your dog accidentally attacking an innocent person. From the moment your puppy is brought home, they should be introduced to people of all shapes and sizes, wearing all types of clothes. Once your pup has been fully vaccinated, it can begin to meet other dogs and animals. Attack commands are one of the last things you should teach your dog. To become a competent guard dog, your German Shepherd must first be obedient. It is easy enough to teach your dog to attack. Getting them to stop in the middle of an altercation can be an entirely different matter. You need your dog to be obedient enough to cease the attack the moment you say so. This is why your dog should first undergo extensive obedience training. This is something you can tackle by yourself or hand over to a professional dog trainer. You should start on obedience from the moment you bring your puppy home. This can be about anything — stop while walking, stop before eating food, stop jumping on people, etc. The earlier your puppy recognizes this command, the easier it will be for them to follow. This means you will need to equip yourself with the appropriate gear. Particularly when you begin, your dog may have little control over its bite or attack. You will only be able to teach them about depth and ferocity later on. To avoid getting hurt, you will need to cover important and exposed areas. Professional attack safety gear will have the appropriate level of padding to prevent injury. You will also be able to find attire that can protect every part of your body. Here are the steps to follow for German Shepherd attack training: Step 1: Create Simple Commands Whether attacking or stopping, you need to get your German Shepherd to react to these commands immediately. Choosing simple commands will make it easier for your dog to understand you and respond accordingly. It will also make it less likely for your dog to mistake one command for another. Figure out what works best for you and stick to it. Your dog will require clear and consistent commands or will end up confused. Step 2: Wear the Protective Gear You need to wear protective gear from the first lesson onwards. See also The Noble Life of German Shepherd Service Dogs For the first few lessons, make sure that your entire arm is covered and even most of your torso. Once you teach your dog to only attack certain parts of the body, you can wear less protection. In the beginning, safety is key. Do this long enough and this should antagonize your dog, causing them to bite you on the arm. Praise them for their response with treats or affection. They should receive a reward every time they bite you. Step 4: Test the Attack Command Once you have carried out the above scenario many times for a few days, it is time to see if the command has sunk in. Put on your protective gear. Get your German Shepherd to sit down and stand a short distance away. Your dog should respond by running towards you and biting you on the arm. If you elicit such a response, it means that the first part of your training was a success. Reward your dog for their behavior. You will have to reinforce this reaction so carry out this exercise several more times over the next few days. Some dogs can take longer to pick up on the appropriate response. This can be a mannequin, cardboard cutout, etc. It should roughly be the right shape and size of a human adult. It may take a while for your dog to realize that it should attack the dummy and not you. Until your dog gets this right, make sure to wear your protective gear. Set up the dummy a short distance away from your dog. Get them to sit still while you are setting the dummy up. Point to the dummy again before shouting the command. When your dog gets this right, reward him or her. In case your dog keeps making a beeline for you when you ask it to attack, try standing next to the dummy. This can make it easier for your pup to make the association. Only once your dog has mastered this task should you move on to the next step. While some dogs pick up on training well, they can freeze or be hesitant when faced with an actual threat. This is why they need to learn this skill in a real-world scenario. The volunteer should be comfortable with being attacked. Keep in mind that if the volunteer panics and fights back, this may trigger a more aggressive attack from your dog. It can be better for all parties involved if you hire someone who is experienced in training guard dogs and is used to facing attacks from dogs. Make sure they are wearing the appropriate protective gear. Have this person stand at the door. They should have one hand on the handle and be ready to close the door against your dog if anything goes wrong. In some cases, you may want to have your dog on a leash for this training exercise. Try this a few times with the leash and if your dog appears to be in control, then you can carry it out without the leash. As mentioned earlier, the goal of the attack command is to startle the perpetrator. This is why they must stop their attack the moment you command them to. Your dog should stop and wait for the next command when you do. In case your dog goes ahead and attacks, you will need to repeat this exercise until it stops when you command it to. Reward your dog when he does obey you. It is important to avoid getting angry or upset with your dog during this training period. This will only cause them to retreat or to be afraid of trying a particular task again. Always stick with positive reinforcement and reward your dog for the right behavior. You know your dog best and what motivates them — use this during training. Some dogs respond well to cuddles and affection while others prefer treats. Not every dog will master these commands immediately. Keep in mind, you are asking your dog to go against its nature and attack you. This can be unnerving for them. This is why you should always be patient with your dog — avoid getting frustrated. Take your time and work through the task with them slowly and carefully. If your dog appears hesitant, reward even the smallest sign of appropriate behavior. This may allow them to build up the courage they need to take the next step. What is the Significance of Consistency? It is important to be consistent in your training. Follow the same steps over and over. Only try to change things up if a particular technique is not working. Constantly altering things will only confuse your pup and make them unsure of what they are supposed to respond to. Always use the same commands, same positions, and rewards as well. This will allow your dog to make clearer connections. Your dog can forget their attack training over time. This is particularly likely if your dog has no cause to use their training in real-life situations. To make sure that these connections remain strong, follow up with the training. You can do this every month or at an interval that you feel is appropriate. Some dogs have better retention than others. Should You Get Professional Assistance? Attack training can feel overwhelming and even dangerous. This is why you may want to consider hiring a professional for this particular task. They have a lot of experience in this field and have the necessary skills and protective gear. This drastically reduces the risk of you getting hurt. The main advantage of a professional is that you can guarantee that your dog learns the right skills and how to use them appropriately. This means there is less of a chance that they end up aggressive or accidentally attack someone. They can walk you through the process, show you what to expect, and even offer helpful tips and techniques. This is what you need to know about training a German Shepherd to attack. You can now begin to safely and carefully train your German Shepherd to protect you if you are ever assaulted or threatened. Peter My name is Peter and I am a dog lover. I have two German Shepherd dogs, one of which is called Biscuit because his coat is very light with brown patches. My wife and I moved from the UK to Ohio where we now live with our two daughters. We love squash on weekends and following the English Premier League closely! Previous Article. They are, by nature, attack dogs and often used by law enforcement for this reason. It will keep both you and your dog safe. Bond with Your Dog Before training your dog to listen to any commands, you must first develop a relationship with them. There needs to be trust and mutual respect and friendship between you and your German Shepherd. Step 2. Preparation Ensure you prepare for attack training by equipping yourself with the necessary gear. Ideally, you should get a bite sleeve, which will protect you from being bitten during training. Start with the Basics Start by training your German Shepherd with basic commands such as stop, sit, stand, etc. The best process is to put on your gloves and tap on the face and nose of your dog. This action will cause annoyance, and eventually, they will respond by biting the gloves. Reward the Action As with basic training, reward your dog each time they obey the command. You can then move on to stepping away from your dog and using the command. Your German Shepherd should come and attack your gloves. Make sure to give them a treat when they do so. Practice with A Doll Now that your dog is familiar with the command, you will need to get them to attack an object other than your gloves. The best place to start is with a doll. Point towards the toy so your dog will understand the action you are trying to get them to perform. It may take some time as your dog will likely be confused and may even attack your arm instead, as was practiced before. Keep at it until they attack the doll and make sure to give them treats when they act correctly. Try places it in different locations each time. Train Them to Attack a Person The hardest part of the training is to transition your dog from attacking a doll to attacking a person. It may be daunting to ask a friend to volunteer for this, and you can always acquire assistance from a dog trainer. They will understand how to react if anything goes wrong during the training. Either way, ensure the other person is wearing protective gear to protect them from the attack. When choosing a protective suit, make sure it is good quality, with durable materials, and that it has excellent reviews. Its French Linen composition is proven to protect against all bites and cover each part of the body for enhanced safety. It includes Velcro straps on the waist and leather hand protectors as well. They should already know this command from basic training. If they do follow instructions, make sure to reward them with a treat. Repetition is key. Keep repeating it over and over until the dog responds immediately to your commands. The goal here is to maintain control over your German Shepherd. Any dog can attack, but the important part is for the dog to obey you and stop attacking when you command it to. Thank you for reading this article. German Shepherds will usually take to being a guard dog naturally. It's important to train them to be obedient. Learn how here. Many dogs are natural watch dogs; their bark is sufficient to alert their owner to something unusual, and the alarm they set up is a deterrent. In addition, dogs who will fight if their owner is genuinely attacked do not have to be made aggressive to do so. Training a dog specifically to be a guard dog is hazardous and potentially creates a liability for you. Misguided attempts to make a dog aggressive through abuse will only backfire because the dog will not be loyal to someone who treats them harshly, and if the dog wrongly bites someone you will be at fault. Never train dogs who are basically fearful or out of control. Such dogs may not respond appropriately in non-threatening situations. A German shepherd dog should not be selected to receive training as a guard dog unless the dog is basically friendly, stable and clear-headed, and has been well-socialized. Dogs should acquire a clear understanding of what is normal and what is not, so that they are not fearful and they know when there is a genuine threat. To socialize puppies, take them places with you, and allow them to meet and interact with as many other people and animals as possible, always taking care to keep your puppy safe from negative experiences. Dogs of any breed are prone to be shy and fearful in strange or new environments if they haven't been well socialized, and this can create a dog who bites from fear or who runs when confronted with anything unusual. STEP 2 Enroll your German shepherd dog puppy in an obedience class as soon as possible, and train your dog thoroughly in basic obedience. It is essential that your German shepherd dog is obedient at all times, but if you want to undertake guard dog training, the need for control becomes imperative. Even though the purpose behind the training is serious, dogs should enjoy obedience work and look on it as fun. Positive reinforcement, the practice of rewarding dogs when they perform correctly rather than punishing them for mistakes, serves multiple purposes by teaching dogs obedience, bonding them with their owners and letting them have fun. It also fulfills their need to work. Begin by teaching your dog to "Speak" on command, and give a treat and much praise for barking. This training eventually gives you control over the dog's bark. Have your dog sit while barking. German shepherd dogs are intelligent and will normally learn quickly. You can develop this trait by making a show of going to see why the dog is barking, offering praise, then giving the "Quiet" or "Enough" command. React positively when your German shepherd dog alerts you to unfamiliar people or objects at home, but do not allow this behavior to develop away from home. Your dog should be unconcerned about neutral or friendly strangers you meet when you are out walking. When your German shepherd dog barks, the intruder should look at the dog and then flee while you hold and praise your dog. Do not allow your pet to chase the fleeing stranger. Praise your dog highly for letting you know someone was in your territory, and stop the barking as soon as the person flees. This strengthens the dog's confidence. STEP 6 Walk your German shepherd dog on a leash around the perimeter of your property regularly to identify your territorial boundaries. Do not allow your dog to bark at people who are outside your property. Do not allow your dog to chase people under any circumstances. These dogs are tested for sound temperament and must learn to perform at a high level in tracking and obedience as well as protection work. Find a reputable club that is a member of a national or international schutzhund organization. Before joining, spend some time learning about their organization, talking to members, and watching training sessions to determine whether you have the commitment needed to seriously engage in this demanding dog sport. The most important aspect of guard dog training is control, which asserts your role as leader and normally comes from time you spend with your dog in enjoyable activities, including obedience training. A dog who is out of control and tries to be dominant can cause serious injuries and is far more of a liability than an asset. Never try to train your dog to bite or attack people. Doing so may be illegal in some states, and you place yourself at risk because you will be liable for injuries that result from an attack. Obedience All Schutzhund training starts with obedience training for a reason. The reason is that the goal is not to train a dog to attack. It is to train a dog to stay calm under extreme provocation so the dog can see clearly how best to protect their charges, or even if protection is required. The German Shepherd will learn both passive restraint barking and herding and active restraint biting and holding. Most importantly, the dog learns to mind the trainer even if the command that is given means the dog has to retreat from an attack situation. Tracking In Schutzhund training, your German Shepherd will learn a very comprehensive type of tracking that starts with scent nose work and continues with the use of training aids that simulate footprints and different types of terrain. A full competitive tracking course includes all of the elements from easiest to hardest. Short and long trails, straight and divergent trails, articles items to scavenge or identify, close quarters and distance from handler tracking and all types of terrain from wet to dry and grass to soil. Tracking in a variety of conditions teaches your dog to stay focused, manage their stress, and stay the course no matter what obstacles come before them. Protection The protection training portion of Schutzhund training and competition evaluates a German Shepherd on the three basic drives that all GSDs have: defensive drive, prey drive, and social drive. The social drive is perhaps the most important because this is the drive that bonds your dog to you. You have to know that your German Shepherd understands who they are protecting and also who must be obeyed no matter what. This is your number one protection against canine aggression. The prey drive is a deeply instinctive drive that is born of an innate urge to chase, to hunt, to bite, to eat. The prey drive is what can quickly get out of hand if a German Shepherd is not properly trained in the art of protection. The defensive drive is more of a learned drive that is based on the ancient fight-or-flight survival instinct. A dog that is defensive will have all kinds of methods at their disposal, from growling or barking to running towards or running away. Rather, their ultimate goal is to see the threat in active retreat. If barking can accomplish that, then attack will not be needed. As Schutzhund Training explains, dogs in Schutzhund training learn to use all kinds of different grips, holds, and bites to protect their charges from an aggressor. By the time the training program has been completed, the dog should be able to demonstrate mastery both at close quarters with their handler and an attacker, and at a great distance from each. There are many different training programs available today that are designed to teach dogs of any breed how to serve as personal protection and guard dogs to people. As Mountain Canine College highlights, regardless of the training program, the dog must first be evaluated to see if they are a good fit. Some dogs may be less well suited for one versus the other. As we mentioned here earlier, Schutzhund training was specifically designed in Germany for training German Shepherd dogs to serve in protective K-9 roles. In either case, the basic method always starts with obedience training. Now you can see why it is so important to take training your German Shepherd to attack so seriously. You are training an incredibly strong and powerful dog with deep instincts that must be directed appropriately for your safety and the safety of others. Watch a German Shepherd Being Trained To Attack In this impressive YouTube video clip , you can watch a professional protection dog training team putting a month-old German Shepherd dog through his paces. The dog shows incredible drive, obedience, agility, and power. The most important thing to note when watching the video is that the German Shepherd does not display aggression. Aggression is not the same as the instinct to protect, guard, or even attack. Aggression in dogs is typically a symptom of insecurity or fearfulness rather than confidence and clarity.

With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size.
