Australian shepherds have too much energy for what we are trying to create. They can also be excellent therapy dogs. Both of the breeds used to create Bernedoodles tend to be smart and learn quickly. If you begin socialization and training early and use positive reinforcement techniques such as praise, play, and food rewards, you will be met with a wonderful companion. Bernedoodles do great in a family setting. They are great with kids and need to be around people. They are not the breed that should be left outside in a kennel. They want to be a part of your family and do best in a home setting. What is a Bernededoodle? What is a standard Bernedoodle? In general, Bernedoodles are a square dog that should be the same height as they are long. They should have a thick, long, and straight muzzle and the skull should be rounded in shape. The ears should hang and be large and wide. The overall look should be of an athletic dog with a straight topline. If they are taking after their Poodle parent, Bernese Mountain Dog Poodles will have a thin build but will be a lot thicker with a wide chest if they are taking after the Bernese Mountain Dog parent. Bernedoodle Size Bernedoodle size really depends on what type of Poodle was used in the mix and the breed can actually be found in three sizes ranging from small to large. These are: Toy Bernedoodle — This is a result of a toy poodle and Bernese Mountain Dog breeding and toy Bernedoodles should range in height from 12 to 17 inches and in weight from 10 to 24 pounds. Miniature Bernedoodle — The result of breeding a Miniature Poodle with a Bernese Mountain Dog, the miniature Bernedoodle is between 18 to 22 inches in height and 25 to 49 pounds in weight. Our Bernedoodles come in three breed sizes - Standard, Miniature, and Tiny. Our F1 Standard Bernedoodles will usually stand inches at the shoulder and weigh or more pounds. Most standard Bernedoodles are in the pound range. Females are usually smaller than males. Our F1 Mini Bernedoodles usually stand between 17 and 22 inches tall and weigh anywhere from 25 to 65 pounds with most of them weighing lbs. Again females tend to be smaller than males. We are often asked if there is a difference between boys' and girls' personality. Male Bernedoodles tend to be larger than females, but beyond that there is not a major difference between the genders. Our Bernedoodles have various coat colors and types. Coat colors are generally a combination of both of the parents' breeds. Almost all of our F1 puppies have the beautiful tri-colored markings of the Bernese. This tri-colored coat is a less common variation and is generally the most sought after. You will see the most variation in color in our F1b puppies. One of the huge attractions to the bernedoodle is its hypoallergenic coat. Bernedoodle coats can vary in thickness, consistency, and color. In an F1 first generation breeding, you might get a puppy with a coat that looks more similar to a Poodle and get another puppy with a coat more like a Bernese Sometimes even within the same litter. While most of our bernedoodles have minimal to no shedding, a curly, Poodle-type coat will shed less than the one that is more straight, like the Bernese Mountain Dog. We encourage a more curly coat for people that have allergy issues. If you have intense allergies you should consider a curlier coated F1 or an F1B puppy. From this point on pups are introduced to one new challenge every day to develop problem solving skills and confidence. Climbing over obstacles to get to their food, figuring out puzzles to find food, balance boards, tunnels, etc. We believe that all training should be happy happy happy! We lavish praise when appropriate and always encourage eye contact! We have fun and lots of snuggle time too. Pups have a few short lessons every day and use their skills as they begin to meet a variety of adults and children. We believe that the importance of a litter being well socialized is greater than the risk of Parvo.Visitors wear clothes not around other animals, wash hands, take off shoes, and handle pups with great care. Week 5 — Adventure training begins to encourage confidence in pups. Pups stay in kitchen during the day and sleeping puppy room at night. Great eye contact is continually rewarded.
