It is true the Labrador Retriever dog parent contributes simpler coat color genetics to the Labradoodle breed. But Labrador Retriever enthusiasts are known to have their own opinions about the three classic coat colors and which one is best for what roles. For example, yellow Labradors are the top pick for service dogs and guide dogs. Black Labradors are prized for hunting, retrieving and hunting roles. Chocolate Labradors are considered ideally suited for show dog competitions and family pets. Is this factual? Or is it just so much personal opinion codified into fact? Chocolate Doodle Health A few year ago, a research study made waves by announcing that chocolate Labrador Retrievers might be less healthy. They reported that they are more likely to become obese, suffer from ear infections and joint disorders and die earlier than yellow or black Labrador Retrievers. But is this a concern for Labradoodle dogs, who have one Labrador Retriever parent dog and one Poodle parent dog? It is hard to say. So if you want a brown Labradoodle, just be sure you work with a responsible, health-focused breeder. One who has deep knowledge of the canine genome and keeps careful health records for her breeding dogs and their puppies. When the breeder invests the time and expense to pre-screen parent dogs for all known heritable genetically transmissible health conditions before allowing a mating, there will always be less risk that the puppies will grow up to develop serious health issues. Health Issues to Watch Out For There are some health problems that all Labradoodles, including chocolate ones, are prone to. These are just a few of the major problems that can affect Labradoodles. This will decrease the risk of an unhealthy puppy. They may be willing to contact you if they get a chocolate colored puppy in their future litters. Always avoid puppy mills, pet stores, and backyard breeders, even if their chocolate Labradoodles are cheaper. These places usually give their puppies worse care and are less interested in their health. Some dogs are given up to rescue centers because of behavioral issues, but there are lots of reasons for dogs to end up there. Many go on to make wonderful, loving family pets. Work closely with rescue center staff to make sure you find a dog that will suit your family. Let them know your situation, including if you have other pets and children. As the Labradoodle breed gains popularity, breed-specific rescue centers are becoming more common. But, if there are still none near you, check rescue centers dedicated to the parent breeds. Our first few days with her Jason frequently checked in and made sure we were adjusting alright to our little addition. Not only can we contact Jason at any time but we also have this great community of people we can turn too. Walnut Valley puppies showered us with the sweetest pics of the first 8 weeks of our puppy. The transition from Walnut Valley to bringing Hazel home was smooth, she was able to sleep in our bed after a week of being home with no issue. She is more perfect as time goes on, and my husband and I recommend Walnut Valley to anyone that is interested in a pup. They also provide a helpful scoring system to try to match the personality of the puppy into your household. The transport went smoothly. My dog is just beautiful—amazing, adorable and smart. They also continue to support you after your adoption with a 2 year genetic health guarantee. My puppy has a little umbilical hernia which they told me about before I picked him and they will cover the cost of repairing—my vet was very impressed with that. It shows they stand by the health of their puppies. There is a Facebook page for the Walnut Valley Family who adopt their puppies and it really feels like a family you are lucky to adopt into! From the time we were added to the waitlist, Jason and the rest of the crew were fantastic. They answered any questions we had and made us feel like part of the Walnut Valley family before we even picked out a puppy. These include a dam which may be considered the proband, three of her offspring two littermates and three fetal pups in an unborn litter of one of these; three of the four adult dogs died suddenly and unexpectedly. Two groups of puppies descendants of these lines were also studied after they all died within three days of birth. The first group of puppies 8 did not have suitable ECG studies but the second group 6 did and showed ECG changes similar to those in the adult dogs. In all 21 dogs the sinus node was anatomically normal, but in every one there was significant stenosis of the midportion of the His bundle.
