The Golden Retriever has been an AKC-recognized breed since and was commonly used as a gun dog and for retrieving small game such as waterfowl, and for companionship. The Golden Retriever originated in the Scottish Highlands. The first Lord Tweedmouth, Dudley Majoribanks, is credited with developing the breed and keeping detailed records to create the ideal gun dog for the terrain. Great discipline and a gentle spirit make the Golden Retriever a perfect retrieval breed since the goal of this task is to bring the trophy back as undamaged as possible. Golden Retrievers first appeared in dog shows in at a British dog show. They also started appearing in the United States around the same time as they were brought across the Canadian border. They gained popularity with sport hunters and in general. Their popularity really took off in the s and they are consistently one of the most popular dog breeds. If you are not the sporting type, bringing a Golden Retriever into your family as a pet is just as rewarding because they are one of the most loyal and jovial breeds out there. One of the facts about Golden Retrievers is that they are the epitome of friendly and make fantastic family dogs. Golden Retrievers are considered one of the friendliest dog breeds. They tend to be good with kids, other dogs, other pets, and even strangers. Goldens love attention and they bond closely with their families. They are affectionate with them, and also just about everyone else. Although they do tend to get along with everyone, they love being around their favorite humans the most. They will bark to alert you and can end up barking a lot if you do not train your dog to stop barking early on. Golden Retrievers are highly adaptable dogs. They thrive in homes with yards where they can run. They can also adapt to apartment living as long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. These dogs do well in just about any climate, but are sensitive to heat. As one of the most affectionate dog breeds , they are not at all happy about being left alone for long periods of time. Although super-friendly and attention-loving, Goldens can also be sensitive to their surroundings; make sure they feel included, but have a quiet place to go if things get too noisy or overwhelming. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Golden Retriever include progressive retinal atrophy, cataracts, elbow dysplasia , and hip dysplasia. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Reputable breeders screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Goldens are considered one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. They are highly trainable dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please. These traits make them a good fit for owners of all experience levels. It also helps them excel at obedience competitions. As one of the smartest dog breeds , Golden Retrievers can get bored easily. Because they pick up things quickly, they can get bored with too much repetition in training. If your dog has mastered the command, move on to something more advanced or another activity. You can also enroll in puppy training classes for some variety in training and also some socialization. Golden Retrievers have a long double coat that will shed a little year-round and will be heavier twice a year as the seasons change. Brushing a few times a week and daily brushing during seasonal shedding along with a bath as needed is usually enough for at-home care. You will want to go to the dog groomer for a professional trim a few times a year, especially as the seasons change. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Daily tooth brushing, along with cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. Golden Retrievers are one of the most active dog breeds. Daily walks plus some playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough to keep these dogs happy and healthy. But, they are high-energy dogs that will likely always be up for more activity if you are. Much like the Labrador , they also tend to have an extended puppyhood. They tend to start winding down a little around the age of 3 and settle into your lifestyle, but they will still be high-energy dogs that require a lot of daily activity. Goldens are known for being versatile and athletic dogs. They tend to love swimming. Once they are done growing and the vet clears them for higher-impact activities, you can try other things too. They are one of the dog breeds that make good running partners. You can also teach them how to play frisbee or play fetch. Training for dog sports is another good option. In addition to obedience, Golden Retrievers are well suited for agility, dock diving , rally, flyball, tracking, and more. Fully-grown Golden Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Golden Retrievers generally live for years on average. With their intelligence, eagerness to please, and gentle disposition, Golden Retrievers are versatile working dogs. In addition to being one of the dog breeds that make the best service dogs , Goldens can be found working as emotional support dogs, certified therapy dogs, search and rescue dogs, military dogs, police dogs, animal actors, and more. I would highly suggest all dog owners contact Garrett for any help regarding their pets. He has worked with both of my dogs and did a remarkable job. A month ago he also provided training for a dog from the French Bulldog Rescue Network. He did such a great job helping not only the dog gain confidence, but me as well. The dog had resource guarding issues, as well as bad anxiety. Garrett conquered those issues and gave us tips to last a lifetime. I am a more confident dog owner because of him and I can't thank him enough. There were several rescue dogs there. One dog stood out, and with a quick decision he was coming home with us. He is a Belgian Malinois. With some research we found out his is a breed being used for police work. The rescue group told us he was from Miami, Florida therefore his name became Kilo. Research also told us to get proper training or this dog would rule us! During our first session it was obvious that Garrett was a professional with real enthusiasm for what he was doing. Within minutes he had control of our dog! It was very impressive. Garrett seems to understand the mind of a dog and just as important as dog training, was owner training. Garrett opened up our minds as to how dogs learn and he taught us, the owners how to train. After several sessions Kilo has become a very obedient dog that Katie and I are very proud of. We have received many compliments on how awesome Kilo now behaves. I would truly recommend Garrett Stevens to anyone with a new dog, or an old dog that needs to learn a new trick. He actually studies the way a canine brain works. As the owner of a busy doggie daycare I use Garrett's techniques every day of the week. My clients are important to me and Garrett Stevens is the only dog trainer I trust to give them the results they are looking for. Although she was a loving caring sweet dog at home, we had several problems with her on the leash, pulling, over-excitement and aggression with other dogs. We tried other trainers with different training methods with no results. She actually was getting worse with some of the methods we were told to use. I have been around dogs all my life and am somewhat of a decent dog trainer in my own right and by this time I was really frustrated and was having a hard time finding people willing to work with my dog. I knew I needed help so I called Garrett out of desperation. After one hour long session with Garrett the changes in our dog "Piggy" were amazing. He has the amazing ability in his observation of dogs to correct bad behaviors and show you how to become a true leader of your pack. It is a wonderful thing when you start to see the dog you always envisioned emerge right before your eyes. I would highly recommend Garrett and his style of dog training for All types of dogs and Humans. He is great with dogs and people. His methods differ from other trainers because he gets great results no matter how difficult the dog. Now after training we can take walks and he listens to our commands. Chance will heel and sit when asked to. We used to place him in his cage all the time. Now we use a lead to control him and are able to let go of the lead and actually have Chance accept any company that we have over visiting! Thank You for your advice and expertise. We decided to sign up for it and went into it with no expectations other than to learn some basics for our French Bulldog puppy and have some bonding time with our other dog Porter. Garrett took the time to discuss dog psychology and helped the owners be more in tune with truly understanding what our pets were communicating to us with their behaviors and body language. By the end of the class we were working on some advanced training skills! Garrett has been great with all 3 of our dogs and has really helped us understand dog psychology even further. We have been pleased with all of Garrett Stevens work and have even had him come back to help us with tune ups. She was never able to make peaceful contact with including not getting him to take a treat from her. Koji was growling and threatening for the entire hour. After an in home visit with Garrett, I was able to learn better skills for managing his agitation including not giving verbal commands. Garrett also talked with the dog walker sharing his suggestions. As a result the dog walker returned using the suggested strategy. Koji was out the door with her in about 5 minutes. The walk was calm and uneventful! While I talked with the dog walker Koji laid down between completely calm. What a change! The couple that gave him to me said that he was from a puppy mill. He was intelligent, affectionate, but aggressive. On walks, he became over excited and uncontrollable when he saw another dog. He pulled on the leash and charged other dogs, jumped and barked. When visitors came to my home, he charged them, barked uncontrollably, and tried to bite them to make them go away. He actually bit Garrett in the leg! He was overprotective of the house and yard. He stood watch at the window waiting for something to approach so could bark and make a fuss. He used to jump up and hit the bird cage to make noise and watch the birds flutter. After working with Garrett, I feel Mikey has improved and will improve even more with time. On walks, I now have more control. I am able to redirect him to focus on me by backing him up, and changing direction in which we walk. I use my crutch to redirect him. I am more aware of potential problems and take action to avoid them. I can remain calm and have more control of him. He still needs work in this area but I know what to do. In the past I was told to feed him to keep his attention but this was only reinforcing his troublesome behavior. When visitors now come to my home, Mikey is told to go to his place, sit, and down. He is learning not to charge the door. He has started behaving successfully with visitors. I have completed exercises with him by rigging the doorbell and having friends enter. The exercises have been working. I can catch him more quickly and keep his excitement from escalating. He is less aggressive to the birds and is learning not to get over excited and bang on their cage. Garrett has emphasized the need to remain calm, use hand signals and speak softly and this is working. I now see that Mikey is affected by my mental state. Thank you Garrett. She has always been a great and loving dog but is stubborn, domineering and has separation anxiety. After my ex and I split a couple of years ago, Izzy stayed with him for nine months. During that time, she went through a lot of change and, when I got her back, her anxiety was worse than it had ever been. She was constantly on-guard and aggressive with and domineering of other dogs. If we even saw a dog while walking, Izzy would pull and lunge, jump on and nearly knock me over. Feeling scared and defeated, I finally called Alpha and Omega and asked for help. When I spoke with Garrett, he seemed so un-intimidated, immediately putting me at ease. He was so knowledgeable, helpful and ready to take Izzy on. Even on the phone, he shared strategies that we would work on together and assured me that these issues could be resolved. We met that week and Izzy instantly responded to him. It was quickly obvious that Garrett is an absolute natural! In fact, just the other day, I ran into a woman who told me she wished her dog was as well-behaved as Izzy, saying that, like Izzy once did, her dog runs her life. I sympathized with her and recognized the embarrassment and fear she bore and suggested she call Garrett. I sing his praises to anyone and everyone who will listen because Garrett is amazing. Dozer was extremely aggressive with small dogs He killed one and severely mauled another! Dozer was also growling at my girlfriend. Garrett had him under control in no time! Results came in weeks — not months. Garrett Stevens is extremely knowledgeable, professional and passionate about what he does, and it shows. I highly recommend his services to anyone with any size dog. Garrett also used one of his dogs to help train Dozer with his dog aggression issue. I highly recommend this. Thank you very much Garrett! He is an awesome dog, but was a bit of a problem when socializing with other dogs aggression , and showed dominance in and out of our home. Kai is now able to be controlled on his walks and his behavior with other dogs has changed a lot. Because of the great tools Garrett provided us with we understand the best ways to communicate to our dog and correct his behavior. Garrett has both great dog training and communication skills. He relays the information in a very positive, patient and compassionate manner which was very helpful. He is fantastic, and we highly recommend him. He would also be barking anytime he would see cats in the backyard or hear the phone ring or the front doorbell. He did a great job explaining dog behavior and why it was important to get Rainier into a calm state. He also helped with keeping Rainier from running out the front door whenever it was opened. He also worked with us in getting better control on our walks. Charlie had never received any type of training in the past. We are his third owner and we found out soon after becoming his owner why Charlie has perhaps had a difficult time fitting into other homes. Charlie was incredibly aggressive with other animals despite his behavior around people. He unpredictably attacks other dogs and mauls them terribly to the point where we have actually considered putting him to sleep due to liability and trauma he has put on our neighbors and any dog that passes our home and Charlie has gotten out and been unfortunate to reach. We arranged our very first meeting with Garrett and within 15 minutes he was able to come into our home and demonstrate to us that he was able to show our pet Charlie who is dominant this initial meeting with Garrett and also allow us to have hope that we would not have to put him down and there would be some way we could train him. We were able to change the dominance and aggressive pattern by working with Charlie and using the psychological-type training methods that Garrett presented to us. He is not the typical type of trainer that involves reward, praise, food, but explains how an animal thinks and how an animal need to be rid of behaviors such as aggressive behavior. We continue to work with Charlie, but he has shown huge changes in just a few visits in our training sessions with Garrett. Thank you Garrett for your work thus far. We look forward to working with you in the future with our other pets. He got our one and a half year old border collie, Romeo, heeling in just 10 minutes! After a few one-on-one private training sessions our dog is actually controllable! We've done at least 5 training courses with other trainers with no results! Once we were even told our dog is a "danger to society" since he didn't behave the way he was expected to in front of the trainer and we got kicked out of there. Garrett would never do that. He knows the dogs and their behaviors and that different breeds need personalized training. I needed a trainer to help me quickly as I was 7 months pregnant and had little time to get my high energy puppy trained before the arrival of my baby! Garrett's an amazing dog whisperer! Within just 3 private training sessions I was trained- ha! Then I used my new training to understand my puppies behavior and get him to stop nipping my heels and instead start coming, sitting and staying when I asked him to. He even helped instruct my dog walker on the proper heeling techniques to get better results on their walks! Garrett was always on time, a professional, and very knowledgeable. I would Highly Recommend him for anyone with a wayward pup or any other dog problems, or if you just want to reach the next level of training! Tacoma, WA Garrett is a phenominal dog trainer and dog whisperer. His puppy class and group obedience classes were fun and packed with interesting information. My puppy loved it and I got a lot out of it. He has a special way of teaching the dogs and the people in attendance. Garrett is the best dog trainer out there! The collars he hand-makes are fantastic and work really well on little Albus. We all saw a big difference after just 1 minute with the collar on! I would definitely recommend his services. I plan on contacting him in the future if my dog ever needs a "tune-up" on proper dog behavior! His work goes well beyond the basics- sit, stay, etc. He explains dog behavior in a way the average pet owner can understand. Garrett's calm demeanor makes him very easy to work with and his results are Guaranteed! With his help your dog will find balance and a rewarding, positive relationship with you- the pack leader! That's a Win-Win! I was too embarrassed to walk them when people were outside or if other dogs were around. I would even go as far as crossing the street or turning around to avoid other people and dogs. They would bark anytime they heard things outside the house or when they saw people. They barked when the door was knocked on and continued even when the guest was in the house. They would even bark at people they already knew! Since Garrett's training things have been much better! In just one session I saw results using his techniques! My dogs are less aggressive now and I can actually take them on normal walks and pass by dogs without the chaos of my dogs barking and being aggressive. The barking has also calmed down in the house. I love the fact that there is much less yelling and barking! I honestly didn't think my dogs could be trained. Thanks to Garrett and all his help I can continue the training and continue to see results with my dogs. I would recommend Garrett for all your training needs! Thank you, Garrett! I recommend him to my clients often! I would never have believed that with just two sessions in our home, our dog's behavior could be changed so dramatically. I highly recommend Garrett, not only as a dog trainer, but as a patient and understanding human trainer. He showed us that our dog just wants to understand the rules and he helped us learn how to convey them. Charlie is doing great and it's amazing how well he's doing on his walks! It's a miracle. He has worked with several of the dogs that attend our dog daycare and the result is truly amazing! Garrett has a unique way to communicate with the dogs he works with to really get them to work the way they should. He also is very good at getting the dog owners to be aware of their continuing responsibilities to work with their companion in order to receive the full benefit of their training with Garrett and become the wonderful pet they really want. That's because Garrett worked with her and us since she was two months old. Due to his excellent skills of dog and people training she performs many commands and is still learning. Garrett came to our house due to puppy illness and we began before she could go to classes with other dogs. We worked around our house and neighborhood learning to walk on leash, heel, sit, come etc. Garrett helped us learn normal puppy behavior as well. Jackie then took his group class with other dogs to reinforce her new found skills. Garrett was so patient but still firm with Jackie, which was something this independent teenage dog needed. We would highly recommend him to any dog owner, whether for basic in home or group training or for problem dogs. We highly recommend Garrett. We mostly wanted to train Gaston to be more obedient in the presence of other dogs. Garrett's knowledge of dog training really helped us be better dog owners and Gaston became the best student in my eyes. We still have some nipping issues at home and we will be talking to Garrett again for some Private lessons. Garrett knows what he is doing! Lucy and I wanted to send you a big thank you for your continual confidence in both of us throughout our training over the last 4 months. Your knowledge base, philosophy, and training techniques cultivated results which far surpassed my expectations in both the group and private training sessions. The bond between us is now strong and respectful, and continues to grow - a product of your profound understanding of the K-9 and their owners. The picture is of Lucy and I at Ruston Way, after walking the entire waterfront. We have had two excellent walks in a row now where Buddy heels and waits at the door until invited out. Buddy used to rush the door, stairs and had dog aggression on leash He is also doing excellent with stairs. He is a changed dog! We are so pleased. We will continue to work on Buddy's dog socialization skills. She did not heel or come when called. She had separation anxiety - drooling, barking, chewing and other destructive behaviors. She did not respect us. Tank would bark aggressively and scream when near other dogs and people. He was very fearful. He would run from everything. Both dogs heel perfectly and ignore other dogs even if the other dog is misbehaving! Moose finally looks at us when on walks. They are much improved when guests knock at the door. They have great confidence with repetition and practice. Moose is much, much faster at calming down when it's time to be let out. Tank lays down when I don't let them out right away. Both dogs are more calm in general. We can't wait for field trips to the market with them! Thank you for your commitment, patience, and wisdom. It has been a pleasure and an honor to work with you. We've really appreciated the opportunity you have given us. Thank you from the entire Hiller clan. Who knows we may see you in group class. Bear was very, very territorial of our home and never welcomed anyone inside. He was also very difficult to walk, constantly pulling us and would go crazy if anyone came near us. After the first in home session with Garrett, Bear was already showing signs of improvement. With each lesson he would get better and better. With the tools Garrett taught me I can now continue to work with our dog and have people over without it being an issue. And Bear is much easier to walk. He seems like a much happier dog because of this. Thanks, -Stephanie G. Call Garrett Stevens immediately for help. My year old Sheltie was barking at the neighbors, jumping on people, even trying to chase cars. This behavior had to stop. Luckily in my search for help I found Garrett. He worked successfully with my four legged friend, but primarily he taught me the necessary skills to be the alpha a calm but firm leader like a great parent should be. I now have a well behaved, lovable friend. Thanks, Garrett! After introducing Rocky to her ourselves, we realized that it wasn't going to be as easy as we thought. After a week we decided to look into a dog trainer. Garrett helped us control not only how our dog reacted towards the kitten but also helped train us to understand his needs and to read him. We are now able to let the kitten and Rocky roam the house together and they enjoy each other much more now. I would highly recommend Garrett to help you make your dog into the "Dream Dog. Well worth the price to have a well behaved dog. His training works for all dogs with any types of issues from aggressive dogs or those that are too timid and everything in between. Jack deserves to be the best dog possible and I couldn't have helped him get over his fears and aggression without your dog whispering help. Thank you so much! We love hearing all the positive feedback from our clients and others in the community on how well their dogs are doing after working with Garrett. Within the same day I saw a huge difference in Leia's behavior! I would highly recommend Garrett to anybody who is interested in fixing certain behaviors in their dogs. Thanks, - Rey and "Leia" Brown's Point, WA We went searching for a dog trainer when our large, German Shepherd rescue was chasing after every dog she saw, barking and generally scaring everyone. We were a bit afraid our rescue was not able to be trained. Garrett was able to make time very quickly to come to our house and help us work with our Shepherd, Jackie and our three year old Daisy, who was picking up bad habits from Jackie. We saw huge results after just one session with Garrett. He has a very practical and educated approach to working with dogs and understanding their energy levels. We had never considered energy levels prior to Garrett, but now we watch for elevated energy levels all the time with our dogs. It allows us to take time to calm them down so they can be successful in whatever situation we put them. Garrett was able to show us how to get results from both dogs immediately in our sessions, which allowed us to breathe a sigh of relief that our dogs were, in fact, trainable. After showing us how the dogs could respond he worked with us to get the same responses. We used Garrett for a few sessions and in fact had our neighbors bring out some of their dogs so all the neighborhood dogs could learn to behave together. We even took him to the dog park with us to help us work with the dogs there, as they often ganged up on other dogs. Garrett is truly a Dog Whisperer. He took my big burly dogs and helped us to help them show their best side to the outside world. We are hugely grateful for his wisdom and guidance with our dogs and put to use his training techniques daily. Only wish we had contacted him sooner, it would have saved us a lot of worry. We are so thankful for all his help with "Sadie," our German Shepherd puppy. Garrett has taught Sadie and us so much in such a short amount of time. If you've got a puppy I would highly, highly recommend you get someone who knows the insides and outs of the canine brain. Garrett gave us the tools to help our growing puppy develop into a beautiful and calm young dog. And we look forward to a few follow up sessions in the future when our dog is older. I've been very impressed with his knowledge. And that is saying a lot coming from me being in the pet industry for over a decade. He is very professional and very approachable. All of my clients that have used his services have loved him! He has helped them with their pet problems. Which means so much to me that I can refer and rely on Garrett for all of my clients. My clients are like family to me. Thanks, Garrett, for taking good care of everyone. Garrett came to the shelter to do a presentation using several of the dogs who had issues that the staff and volunteers were not comfortable working with. Rather than training the dogs, Garrett trained the volunteers in how to help the dogs with their issues. That was an extremely valuable lesson learned for us. A few of the volunteers also went to a "Fearful" dog seminar that Garrett gave and we learned a lot in that session on how to help dogs with that particular issue. He taught us that we can do more harm to dogs by not treating them as animals and by trying to turn them into our "babies. I brought home an 8 week old puppy and thought to myself, What did I just do? She was my first pup and I needed some desperate guidance. Garrett was a perfect choice! After a few private sessions with him I began to understand dog behaviors and body language. He makes training relevant and fun using your dog's natural instincts. He teaches you how to communicate to dogs and engage them. In addition to his knowledge he commands respect from me and my dog. He exudes this energy that my dog really responds to. Seriously, it's like a super dog-engaging force field! My dog is about 9 months old now and I get complimented on her behavior and I credit that to Garrett's help. Ok- she's not perfect ALL the time and sometimes is a total spaz but then again that's just her personality. I've done two group obedience classes with other trainers. One class was great and mainly for young pup socialization. The other was out of location and inconvenient and a huge regret. She sucked, Majorly sucked: artificial, "textbook" teaching style, and low skilled. Garrett is the opposite. I could sing his praises for hours on end. He teaches you how to use your dog's strengths, training both traditionally and with dog whispering. His traditional methods are far superior to other drones though!! Both methods training and whispering are useful for different circumstances. He teaches things you use in real life: my dog is so good at staying out of the kitchen, if her ball rolls into the kitchen, she just sits there staring at it with her nose at the border. I love my dog and wouldn't put her in anyone else's hands. I have a Thai Ridgeback that was a rescue from Thailand. He was in very poor condition when I got him and because of that, I fostered many of his bad behaviors because I felt bad for him. I was at my wits end because "Mako" had a lot of aggression which I learned was based in fear. Garrett came over and immediately diagnosed Mako's fear. Garrett is so knowledgable when it comes to understanding and correcting behaviors. We are both animal people veterinary technician and zookeeper and experienced dog owners, but nothing we tried was improving "Mica's" behavior. Garrett came highly recommended by one of the vets I work with, and he set up a program for Mica that was simple, gentle, and practical. It immediately improved his behavior.Garrett demonstrated everything so that we felt comfortable following through on a day-to-day basis. He answered all our questions with patience and courtesy, and it was a joy to watch him interact with Mica and our other dogs. Garrett communicates with the dogs in a way that they not only understand but want to comply with. We have profound respect for his knowledge and experience. Every client we have referred to him from our veterinary hospital Chambers Creek Veterinary Hospital has been impressed and thoroughly delighted with the results of his training.I had given up the possibility of getting them -behavioral issues under control, as I had no luck with training methods at other establishments. I thought I'd give it with Garrett and I'm so glad I did. Garrett's methods quickly identified what training was needed for Harry and I to best accomplish my goals. He established simple techniques easily incorporated into our daily lives. I was blown away with what we accomplished in one hour and I'm pleased with the progress we've made since Garrett came into our lives. We were very impressed with his firm but kind nature with each dog and their different personalities. Their response to him was so positive. He took individual time with each handler when needed and managed to keep the large class on target. Garrett's methods proved to be very effective. Each week we saw visible improvement in each dog. We learned so much from him in those six classes, it truly was a class for both the handlers and their dogs. Each command we learned was simple and with a firm but quiet voice our dogs were responding to us in no time. We are extremely pleased with the amount of knowledge we took away from these classes along with the improved behavior of our dogs. He does a great job! After reading the testimonials and talking with Garrett on the phone I knew he was the trainer I was looking for to train my 4 month old Shiba Inu. It was amazing how he taught Matt and I the importance of being consistent in training. He also explained dog training and dog whispering. Our little "Ginger" responded very well to the training techniques Garrett taught us. We feel with the investment we made we got more than expected and we have a very well behaved Shiba Inu thanks to Garrett. It has been a long road for this sweet boy. He has come so far since September when he entered rescue. Washington had his big day today and finally met his forever family. He was excited to meet them and showed off with all his charm when they came to visit. Congratulations, big boy! You are loved by so many! Belle Bader writes: Our family had way too many dogs and somebody needed to leave. Thankfully, we soon heard we may get a better future, thanks to rescue. I do want to get rid of these tear stains in my face wrinkles, though. Everyone talked about how active and loving I am. Washington is 2 years old and a big boy, weighing in at 72 pounds. He also has those nasty stains in his face wrinkles. He has some skin issues and his ears are infected, but we know Dr. Larsen will help get all those fixed. When we got to the clinic today, I let out a little whimper when they were examining me and poor Washington thought they were hurting me. He tried to run to protect me, but a man held him back. I know he just wanted to check on me. I guess we both love each other… a lot. Anyhoooo, you can see why we hope we can stay together, be fostered together and be adopted together. We heard it has happened before, so we feel certain it will happen for us too. How would you like to have us in your family? Belle passed suddenly yesterday following complications during surgery. He had a very restless night and had to be sedated. This morning, he started out a little slow and grumpy, but got better throughout the day. Staff spent a lot of extra time with him and let him play outside. I spent about 30 minutes with him this afternoon. He moved around the yard, but he kept looking around. I think I know why. He and Belle always went outside together! He will get lots of extra love and attention. He is ready to leave the vet clinic and move into his foster home. He has been at our house for almost two weeks. He is incredibly docile and calm. He is house trained and well behaved. He gets along well with our children and walks well on the leash. He does, however, have some significant separation anxiety. He is a delightful pup, but he does not like to be in a crate or left alone. With the help of Heather, Dr. Larsen and Janell, we have made some changes to try and help this poor guy out. He also has some meds to help calm him down so his anxiety is not so bad while we are away. We are slowly seeing some improvements. He enjoys sleeping on his big comfy bed in front of the warm fireplace! How can anyone not love that sweet face?!? I do have some anxiety issues that my foster parents are helping me through. I did great on Christmas morning with all the chaos, as you can see in the picture of me sleeping in the wrapping paper. My humans had family members over to visit and I mostly behaved myself. Bacon is delicious, can you blame me?!? I will need a family who is willing to be patient with me and help me learn the rules of being a good Bulldog. My favorite spot is right in front of the fireplace, where I can snuggle up, snore and sleep. I did have an interesting encounter while on a walk this week. Hope you enjoy the pictures my foster mom is sending. Other humans there knew my name and said hello. Life in my foster home is going great. I have settled into a routine and I do well dealing with my separation anxiety now. You all should be very proud of me…. I enjoy treats, playing with my toys and naps. Lots and lots of naps. I loved playing out in the snow today. Stay warm, Bulldog friends! Until next time. We are so proud of him! He is like an entirely different dog. As some of you know, we discovered that Washington gets along with other dogs. Since finding this out, we decided to add another foster dog in our home. She and Washington are getting along great. Both dogs are as sweet as can be! We have seen nothing but wonderful things from this sweet marshmallow of a pup. He is getting along great with his foster friend, Xena J. He is a fantastic snuggler, if you can handle the snoring. Additional Photos. New Pet Alert from AdoptaPet. What is This? Overall, Labradoodles are wonderful dogs that make great companions for people of all ages. If you are looking for a friendly, intelligent, and hypoallergenic dog, a Labradoodle may be a good choice for you. Labradoodle History Wally Conron, who was in charge of the breeding program for the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia, purposefully crossbred a Standard Poodle and Labrador Retriever in to develop the Labradoodle as a hypoallergenic guide dog. The first cross produced Sultan, a dog with a hypoallergenic coat, aptitude, intelligence, and personality suitable for being an effective guide dog. Sultan worked successfully with a woman in Hawaii. Other breeders saw the merit of crossing these two breeds, and the Labradoodle quickly rose in popularity like its Labrador Retriever parent. These dogs are often produced by crossing a Labrador Retriever with a Poodle, but multigenerational breeding has begun in an attempt to produce a viable and recognizable breed. The Australian Labradoodle Association and the International Australian Labradoodle Association are taking steps to move this designer breed into registered breed status in the next few years. These groups have made great efforts to bring breeders together so that they are working to achieve the same standards through multigenerational breeding. Labradoodle Size The Labradoodle comes in three size variations, depending on the size of the Poodle used for the first-generation breeding. The three sizes are Standard, Medium, and Miniature. The Standard Labradoodle should be 22 to 24 inches in height for a male and 21 to 23 inches in height for a female, while both can range in weight from 50 to 65 pounds. The Medium Labradoodle should be 18 to 20 inches high for a male and 17 to 19 inches high for a female, with both weighing from 30 to 45 pounds. The average size for a Miniature Labradoodle is between 14 to 16 inches and 15 to 25 pounds. All of that said, there is a lot of variation in Labradoodle sizes. Some can be smaller or larger than expected. Labradoodle Personality The Labradoodle is an intelligent dog who can make the ideal family pet if properly trained. They are friendly and accept and treat everyone like their best friend. They can be gentle, but they can also be joyful, showing their happiness through exuberant jumping and playing. They also tend to be easygoing, since the Labradoodle was bred not to be aggressive. Temperament is affected by a number of factors, including heredity, training, and socialization. Puppies with nice temperaments are curious and playful, willing to approach people and be held by them. Meeting siblings, parents, or other relatives of the dog is also helpful for evaluating what a puppy will be like when they grow up. Socialization helps ensure that your Labradoodle puppy grows up to be a well-rounded dog. Enrolling them in a puppy kindergarten class is a great start. Inviting visitors over regularly, and taking them to busy parks, stores that allow dogs, and on leisurely strolls to meet neighbors will also help them polish their social skills. Here are a few conditions to watch out for: Ear Infections: These can plague Labradoodles because of their floppy ears. The ears trap moisture and should be regularly checked. X-ray screening is the most certain way to diagnose the problem. Either way, arthritis can develop as the dog ages. Dogs with hip dysplasia should not be bred. Elbow Dysplasia : Similar to hip dysplasia, this is also a degenerative disease. The disease varies in severity: the dog could simply develop arthritis, or they could become lame. Treatment includes surgery, weight management, medical management, and anti-inflammatory medication. It can cause mild or severe seizures that may show themselves as unusual behavior—such as running frantically as if being chased, staggering, or hiding—or even by falling down, limbs rigid, and losing consciousness. Seizures are frightening to watch, but the long-term prognosis for dogs with idiopathic epilepsy is generally very good. Allergies: Allergies are a common ailment in dogs, and the Labradoodle is no exception. Treatment varies according to the cause and may include dietary restrictions, medications, and environmental changes. Diabetes Mellitus: This is a disorder in which the body cannot regulate blood sugar levels. The dog will lose weight because food is not being used efficiently. Symptoms of diabetes are excessive urination and thirst, increased appetite, and weight loss. Diabetes can be controlled by diet and the administration of insulin. Progressive Retinal Atrophy PRA : This is a family of eye diseases that involves the gradual deterioration of the retina. Early in the disease, affected dogs become night-blind; they lose sight during the day as the disease progresses. Many affected dogs adapt well to their limited or lost vision, as long as their surroundings remain the same. Hypothyroidism : This is a disorder of the thyroid gland. It is treated with medication and diet. They require about 30 to 60 minutes of exercise per day and would do better with a fenced yard in which to expel some energy. Some Labradoodles, especially in the first generation, can require even more exercise. The Labradoodle makes an excellent jogging companion but also needs some time off-leash to burn off steam. The Labradoodle is an intelligent and eager-to-please dog. Training should be easy as long as consistency and positive reinforcement are the methods. Socialize them from puppyhood, since they tend to hurl themselves headlong into canine situations without regard to the feelings of other dogs. This can lead to some problems if the unknown dog is aggressive. Despite their activity levels, a Labradoodle can adjust to living in suburban or city environments and can do well in rural settings. A crate is also a place where they can retreat for a nap. Crate training at a young age will help your Labradoodle accept confinement if they ever needs to be boarded or hospitalized. Never stick your Labradoodle in a crate all day long, however. Labradoodle Feeding Recommended daily amount: 1 to 2. NOTE: How much your adult dog eats depends on their size, age, build, metabolism, and activity level. It almost goes without saying that a highly active dog will need more than a couch potato dog. Keep your Labradoodle in good shape by measuring their food and feeding them twice a day rather than leaving food out all the time. First, look down at them. You should be able to see a waist. Then place your hands on their back, thumbs along the spine, with the fingers spread downward. You should be able to feel but not see their ribs without having to press hard. For more on feeding your Labradoodle, see our guidelines for buying the right food , feeding your puppy , and feeding your adult dog. Labradoodle Coat Color And Grooming Although a Labradoodle can have one of a range of coat types, the desired length is four to six inches. They have a single coat with hair ranging from straight to loose curls. There are three types of texture: The Hair coat, which is similar to fur in shedding breeds, is the least popular. Hair coats shed and usually have a normal doggy odor. This coat is seen in first generations, although breeders try to avoid it. The Fleece coat has a silky texture often described as an Angora goat texture. This coat ranges from straight to wavy. Labradoodles are considered to be non- to low shedders, especially those with a Fleece or Wool coat. Hair coats tend to shed just as they do in other breeds, ranging from very low to average shedding. The Labradoodle comes in a wide variety of colors. They can also have parti-colored coats, which consist of brindles, phantom, patched, or sable colors. Grooming requirements vary depending on the length and type of coat the dog has. Generally speaking, you can expect to brush a Labradoodle about once or twice per week. Some can be clipped or trimmed every six to eight weeks to keep the coat easy to maintain. Like Labs, Labradoodles can be prone to ear infections, so take a little extra time caring for their ears. Dry and clean them after a swim, and check them once a week for dirt, redness, or a bad odor that can indicate an infection. Then wipe them out weekly with a cotton ball dampened with gentle, pH-balanced ear cleaner to prevent problems. Daily brushing is even better if you want to prevent gum disease and bad breath. Dog toenails have blood vessels in them, and if you cut too far you can cause bleeding—and your dog may not cooperate the next time they see the nail clippers come out. Handle their paws frequently—dogs are touchy about their feet—and look inside their mouth. As you groom, check for sores, rashes, or signs of infection such as redness, tenderness, or inflammation on the skin, in the nose, mouth, and eyes, and on the feet. Eyes should be clear, with no redness or discharge. Your careful weekly exam will help you spot potential health problems early. Labradoodle Children And Other Pets The Labradoodle does well with children and can be an affectionate and gentle companion for any child. They can also be exuberant and might knock down smaller children, but they will love them with all their heart. As with every breed, you should always teach children how to approach and touch dogs, and always supervise any interactions between dogs and young children to prevent any biting or ear or tail pulling on the part of either party. No dog, no matter how friendly, should ever be left unsupervised with a child. Labradoodles usually get along well with other dogs and pets. Like most dogs, they need training and socialization for optimum success at living with and visiting other animals. Labradoodle Rescue Groups Labradoodles are often brought home without any clear understanding of what goes into owning one. Many end up in the care of shelters or rescues because of this. It may be hard to find a breed-specific rescue for Labradoodles because they are a mixed breed. However, you may want to try Labrador Retriever or Poodle breed-specific rescues, as they often care for mixes, as well. Reputable breeders are committed to breeding healthy, well-socialized puppies that will make great companions. They will screen their breeding stock for health problems, socialize their puppies from a young age, and provide you with lifetime support. On the other hand, backyard breeders are more interested in making a profit than in producing healthy, well-adjusted dogs. They may not screen their breeding stock for health problems, and they may not socialize their puppies properly. As a result, puppies from backyard breeders are more likely to have both health and behavioral issues. More Info For You.

So we usually have a good selection of very high quality puppies. View Our Available Puppies! Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. Give your pup major dad-on-vacation vibes with a snazzy Hawaiian-print shirt. We got the XL and the fit was good. The sleeves were a little long, but that is a standard problem for bassets. That's not to say that these cause itchiness—they don't. It's just that our dog has allergies causing him to get itchy and a coat calms him down. Dress him up for game day in a collegiate-look polo shirt. Popped collar is optional. I especially love the sleeves, as they fit well and are loose enough to be comfortable. So often the sleeves on these shirts make it hard for them to walk. Help your dog get all fancy- no pants with a tutu dress. Promising review: "This fits my lab perfectly! It's so cute. I put it on Fitz as soon as it arrived! It's easy to put on, as it has Velcro on the shirt and belt. Play twins in the chilly temps with a shearling-style coat that'll match your old faithful. With this top, the length and the size for the chest fits her perfectly. Outfit your guard dog with a killer tee to match his ruff-and-tumble ways. At this colorful Indian wedding , stunning traditional attire was on full display. To ensure their pop was equally well-dressed, the bride and groom found a neckerchief made of a metallic silver material that was befitting of the day's festive vibe. For this elegant and traditional spring wedding , the couple had their florist create a custom collar of the bloom for their Border-Aussie puppy to wear during portraits and down the aisle. The good news? The look can be just as impactful, as evidenced by the accessory this pup wore for a wedding in Miami. At this Big Sur wedding , the couples' dog, Kea, served as the flower girl in a pretty blush and white floral wreath. It's a statement-making option that works best on dogs that regularly wear accessories and won't try to fight with the blooms. At this coastal wedding , the couple's dog, Piper, wore a more elevated version of her everyday bandana to befit the occasion while still remaining comfortable. You can't go wrong with a custom bandana. Tiny Spartacus got into the wedding theme at this Austin celebration by wearing a lightweight bandana made from the couples' special big-day fabric. If you're going similarly bold with your own big-day hues, make sure your pup dresses the part. A floral collar of deep, bold hues popped against his largely white fur. By Beth Satterfield Some dogs have fur made for cold weather, and others have fur made for warmer weather. Goldendoodles need winter coats for weather that is colder than 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Goldendoodles should be put in a sweater or coat when they go outside during cold weather. Goldendoodles do not have undercoats , so they need an extra outside layer of warmth to protect them. Goldendoodles are a mix of Golden Retrievers and Poodles, therefore, they are not bred for cold weather. If you are going to bring your dog outside for a walk, it will be cold enough for your Goldendoodle to need something to keep them warm. I spent hours reading about the best treats, toys, gear for puppies so that we had everything for our little guy before he arrived. As we are gearing up for my sister-in-law and aunt to bring home their new goldendoodle puppies, I thought a little blog post about my favorite things would be helpful to all the puppy parents and the soon-to-be puppy parents out there. Here is my must-have list for your goldendoodle puppy! We kept Clifton in here at night and when we would leave the house. This one fits perfectly with the crate. We used these to create a safe little area for Clifton once we stopped crate training him to be in. This clips right into the seat belt and on to any harness. This spray helps prevent your dog from chewing on things like your furniture, shoes, etc. You will be using this spray every time there is an accident in the house those first few weeks. We still use this spray 5 years later. Harness : We recently purchased this harness , and we LOVE this one and would recommend this to anyone with a pup as this harness is a little trickier to wiggle out of. Clifton has a medium he weighs about 30 pounds. Collar : We have a bunch of different collars that we switch between, but I love this cognac leather collar for every day. We have this one , and as soon as we switched to this, Clifton walked so much better and stopped pulling. Some of my current favorites are this modern set which is great because it includes a stand. Did You Feed the Dog? I love the smell of it. John Paul Pet Lavender Mint Detangling Spray : Doodles get matted super easily, so we add this detangling spray into our grooming routine to help with the matting. Andis Pet Steel Comb : If you can keep your furbaby mat-free this comb is great for combing him or her out. Safari Dematting Comb : You are going to need a de-matting comb to helpwith matting especially as your puppy gets older. It is the best thing we have bought, and we use it all the time. Start doing this when they are little. We love this little set that includes the toothpaste, brush and finger brush. Towel : We keep two of these pet towels in the bathroom where we give Clifton a bath. They are great at absorbing the water after a bath. We also pack these when we take him to the dog beach or Florida. Mushers Secret Paw Wax : If your pup lives in a cold climate, this is perfect for their dry, cracked paws that will come in winter. Shopping for toys was one of my favorite parts when I first started shopping for Clifton. My advice is not to buy too many toys at first like I did. Your puppy is going to destroy those cute, stuffed animals quickly. Grab a few because they make for some cute photos and toys around the house, but also stock up on things that will help when they need to chew. One thing to keep in mind when getting toys is to avoid any rope toys. Pups can eat the strings and have them wrap around their intestines — which is NOT good. So just skip them altogether. It is supposed to help transition them because it has a battery heartbeat and a pouch to make it warm. If you can, ask the breeder to rub it on his mom or the other puppies so it smells like them. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. You envisioned that your new puppy, Max, would walk calmly next to you in heel position. So you wonder what you should do to preserve your wardrobe and how to stop a puppy from tugging on clothing. Why Puppies Tug on Clothing Puppies explore the world with their mouths. Anything is fair game. Pulling on our clothing is very enticing to them and fun. And it may be cute in the beginning. And, as a puppy grows stronger and has adult teeth, this behavior can become dangerous. It can turn into biting as he gets his adult teeth. And he may even knock or pull someone down when he tugs. The following are some reasons why your puppy may be pulling on your clothes: 1. They are little land sharks with needle-like teeth. So the cloth on your new jeans is fair game as far as your puppy is concerned. He may chew on the furniture, have potty accidents, and even see you as a living chew toy and tug on your clothing. And he will probably pull on your clothes. Your puppy may be bored Your puppy may just be looking for something to do. Unfortunately, you and your clothes can be what he literally latches onto. Shelties, Aussies, and corgis will engage in these behaviors. They want to control your motion just as they would a flock of sheep. This is especially true when someone walks by quickly or noisily. When my many shelties were puppies, they would try to grab the bottom of my pants leg and tug. So I worked with the issue using some of the techniques I describe below. A retriever sometimes has a need to have something in his mouth. And that something could be the clothes you wear if nothing else is handy. My rescued golden retriever Spencer always had to have something in his mouth. So, instead of it being the shirt on my arm or my pant leg, I made sure that he had an assortment of toys he liked to carry around with him. Your puppy may want to play It may be as simple as your puppy needs to play. Puppies are usually very playful and will grab whatever—or whoever—is nearby. Play biting is a common puppy behavior. So the pup turns tugging on our clothing into a fun for him game. Your puppy may want attention You may be busy working on your computer. All of a sudden, you feel a tug on your clothes. So he explores the world with his mouth. And your clothing is easy to reach. This can also occur while on walks, where a puppy may see many things that excite him such as squirrels, dogs passing by, or someone mowing the lawn. You may have unintentionally encouraged him to tug on clothes You may have inadvertently rewarded the behavior. Your puppy may have the zoomies Sometimes puppies tug our clothing because they need to release energy. And you can also use certain methods to break the pattern. Play biting is a normal puppy behavior. Luckily, most puppies outgrow it. But, in the meantime, you need to work through the issue. He starts ferociously tugging with all his might instead of grabbing the rope toy in your hand. Afterward, redirect him to another activity or obedience cue. Then, use some of the other techniques below. Make sure that your puppy has enough physical and mental exercise The amount of physical exercise your puppy needs for his physical and mental well-being will vary depending on his age and breed s. Generally, working, herding, and sporting breeds and terriers require more exercise than toy breeds do. And young puppies often require more naps than older puppies and adult dogs do. So have puzzle toys ready. A flirt pole can exercise and redirect your pup to another activity. And teach your puppy obedience commands and tricks. Teach obedience commands Certain training cues are especially important to help stop a puppy from tugging at your clothes. Of course, teach your puppy to pay attention and look up at your face when you say his name. Then, you can tell him to leave anything and not pick it up or put it in his mouth—including you and your clothing. Teach your puppy to heel alongside you. Of course your puppy should also learn to come to you and sit and lay down on cue. Teach impulse control exercises The more that your puppy can control his own behaviors, all of his actions will be better regulated. Teach him to go a place and settle there. But by the time a pup reaches five or six months old, he should be able to sit and down on your verbal cue and hand signal. This training lesson teaches a puppy to control his natural impulses and drives. Place a small treat in your hand, palm up, and close your fist. Have another reward treat ready in your other hand. If your pup mouths or paws at your hand, ignore it. Do this exercise a few times. End on a successful note. Put your fist behind your back and walk away. Next time you train him, set him up to succeed. You can give a small tidbit of a treat. Or you can give him a safe chew or frozen stuffed Kong so that he will remain lying down and calm. Licking the stuffing out of a Kong is actually calming to a dog. Use an interrupter This can help teach your puppy to remove his teeth from your clothes. Or, if he knows how to sit on cue, have him sit, then release him and reward with a favorite toy. Have a favorite toy of his ready and have him fetch it. Or have a safe chew or stuffed frozen Kong ready. Give him a nap If your puppy is overly tired, he may act out much as a small toddler would. So what he needs is a nap. So you can first have him perform an obedience cue and reward him. Then have him enter his crate with a safe reward such as an appropriately-sized stuffed frozen Kong. Give your puppy a time-out Sometimes when a puppy is overstimulated, he needs a place to chill out. So when I give a puppy a short minute maximum time-out, I use a different, safe, puppy-proofed area. It can be a laundry room or bathroom. If this method is to work, you must just leave the puppy for a short time until he calms down minutes at most. Then, release him from the place and have him perform an obedience cue or redirect him to an acceptable game. Puppies and children can be a great combination. But all interactions should be monitored and directed. And teach your puppy to ignore such distractions and redirect him to other acceptable activities. But also instruct children and rambunctious adults to be calm around the pup. No rough-housing or wrestling with the pup. Clothing, especially those with our scent, are very inviting to most puppies. Place a chew deterrent on your clothes If your puppy goes after the bottom of your pants leg, you can spray a chew deterrent such as Bitter Yuck there before your pup approaches. You can then spray the bottoms with Bitter Yuck immediately prior to wearing them. Use calming aids If you need additional help calming your puppy down, there are many things that you can use. You can get your puppy used to wearing a ThunderShirt. It comes in a plug-in, collar, and spray. Get professional help if needed If all else fails, get professional help if you need it. A positive reinforcement trainer who has experience with puppy behaviors can set you and your puppy on the right track. And save your wardrobe. I know that this is easier said than done. But try the above-listed methods instead. And they can be abusive. Doing so may even teach him to fear you and become hand shy. And he may even become aggressive when you attempt to handle him. But, if you get too excited and scream at him, your puppy will probably become over-stimulated and his behavior of yanking on your clothes will escalate. Or some puppies will even become afraid of you. And you may even create other behavior problems. This includes no wrestling games or waving arms round. And no tug of war for now. So use other safe toys made for dogs instead. FAQs My puppy tugs on my clothes and has already ruined a few pairs of pants. Should I push him away? And teach him obedience commands such as paying attention, leave it, sit, heel, and down. And have something ready such as a favorite to or chew to redirect him before his teeth are on your clothes. My family gives my puppy old socks as toys and now he always wants to pull the socks off my feet. What should I do? First of all, stop giving your puppy clothing as toys. Instead, have safe toys and chews available for him to play with. My puppy gets very excited when my two toddlers are playing. He grabs their clothes and pulls them over, which scares them. And he gets even more excited when they cry. Never leave your puppy alone with your children. Accidents can happen. Have them interact only when supervised and after your puppy has a sufficient amount of exercise for his age and breed. Teach your toddlers to be calm around your puppy. Reward them for being calm. Positive reinforcement works for people too! And teach your puppy obedience commands and impulse control exercises. Final Thoughts Puppies explore the world with their mouths. There are many reasons why they love to tug at our clothes. Then you can take the measures necessary to avoid and correct that behavior. Have you had a puppy who tugs on your clothes? What have you done about it? Did it work? Please tell us about it in the comments section below. Helps ease anxiety in their new home. Our town is a small boating and farming community within an hour of the Outer Banks. We are a true family operation I, Heather, built my program with the intention of having it become a true family operation, with great help from my children, husband, mother, her husband and my brothers. We consider ourselves an average family. My mom and I are both nurses. My mother, Tracey, lives with us and keeps our other Goldendoodles, Nani and Lilo, and her poodle, Hope. In addition, we have other poodles and goldendoodles all placed in excellent guardian homes with local families. Producing perfect family dogs is our passion I have been around animals the majority of my life ranging from household pets to livestock and am finally living my dream of breeding dogs. I chose the Goldendoodle breed because I've owned both golden retrievers and poodles. Although they are both great breeds, I believe that combining the intelligence and non-shedding characteristics of the poodle with the goofy, family-oriented golden retriever yields the perfect family dog. Each litter is born and raised inside our home What sets us apart from many other breeders is our unique Guardian Home Program , where all of our dogs and puppies are raised in a nurturing home environment with real families, and never in an outdoor kennel. Your puppy will be bomb proof! Our breeding dogs are always put first To honor safe and responsible breeding practices , we look at each breeding female to determine if it is better to breed back to back heat cycles or to skip a heat. Start by looking at online sources such as Google reviews, online forums, discussion groups and social media platforms to see what other people are saying about the breeder. Did they have a good experience buying from them? To take your research a bit further, you can ask Goldendoodle organizations and clubs based in your area about their opinion of the breeder you are considering to purchase from. Many Goldendoodle clubs also have their own lists of responsible breeders so they can give you additional recommendations for good Mini Goldendoodle breeders. You may also consider visiting some dog shows and events as they are a good opportunity to meet breeders in person and see their Mini Goldendoodles. Reputable breeders always prioritize the well-being of their dogs and strive for positive reviews. You should inquire about temperament and health of the Mini Goldendoodles these people purchased. Use this information to make an informed decision. All reputable Mini Goldendoodle breeders conduct them on their breeding dogs — whether they are breeding from purebred Golden Retrievers for F1 Goldendoodles and Poodles or from Goldendoodles for later generations like F2 Goldendoodles. A stipulates the health testing requirements for Goldendoodles and if the breeder is registered with G. A, you know that the breeding dogs have undergone full health testing. A heart clearance O. Ask to see documentation of these clearances before purchasing from a Mini Goldendoodle breeder. All responsible breeders should be willing to provide any health documentation. They should also be happy to answer any questions you have about their breeding program. However, if you have the opportunity to check out the facilities you should do it. Check that the kennels are clean, that they dogs and puppies have access to fresh water and also that there is not a build up of feces or urine. Comfortable living conditions: The breeder should keep their Mini Goldendoodles, Golden Retrievers and Poodles in comfortable living conditions. They should have large, comfortable kennels or dog beds and also have a decent amount of space to exercise and socialize with other dogs. Healthy breeding dogs and puppies: If you get the opportunity to meet the parents of the Mini Goldendoodle litter you are interested in, make sure they are well-tempered and also healthy. Sometimes the mother will be quite protective of her puppies so she may show signs of aggression. If you are purchasing a puppy online and getting it delivered, ask if the breeder would be happy to video call you or send videos of their Mini Goldendoodle puppies and breeding dogs to you. Ask About Socialization Mini Goldendoodle breeders should begin the socialization process before their puppies are sold. The puppies should be exposed to a wide variety of sounds, experiences, people and places so they can adjust to their new homes and adult life. Nevertheless, they should start exposing them to sounds like household appliances, provide mental stimulation with toys and games and also encourage playtime and interactions with their littermates and family. The most common ones are: Lack of registration: If a Mini Goldendoodle breeder cannot provide registration papers or other relevant documentation, it may be a sign that they are not operating a reputable breeding program. Overbreeding: Think twice about purchasing from a Mini Goldendoodle breeder who always has puppies available or offers an excessive amount of dog breeds. This may suggest that the breeder is overly focused on profit instead of the health and wellbeing of their puppies. Lack of health checks: A reputable Mini Goldendoodle breeder will conduct health clearances on their breeding dogs to ensure they are free of genetic health issues that could be passed on. If a breeder cannot provide documentation of these health checks, it may be a sign that they are not prioritizing health. Further Reading.
Life Span Did You Know? The Aussiedoodle, sometimes also called an Aussiepoo, is a mixed dog breed that is more popular in the US than they are in Australia. They are a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Poodle. Their friendly, sweet nature makes them a good fit as companions and as working dogs. They can often be found serving as therapy dogs, service dogs, and emotional support animals. Both of the dog breeds in this cross are intelligent with friendly dispositions. As such, Aussiedoodles tend to be intelligent, friendly, and affectionate dogs. This mixed dog breed is very playful and gets along well with children and other people and animals. They make great companions that are devoted to their families and love to be around their humans. Because of the Australian Shepherd in the cross, your Aussiedoodle may inherit herding instincts. If your Aussiedoodle starts showing herding behavior, it can be curbed early on by training to redirect that energy towards more positive outlets. The Aussiedoodle adapts well to change. They do well in most climates, but, as with any dog, do not typically do well in extreme hot or cold. They are best-suited for active families and homes with yards where they can romp around. Aussiedoodles can do well in apartments, as long as they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention. However, they do not like to be alone for long periods of time and they can develop separation anxiety. If you do have to leave your Aussiedoodle alone, make sure to leave them plenty of challenging toys and puzzles to keep them occupied. Although sometimes mixed breeds win the genetic lottery, they can also still sometimes be prone to the health conditions common to both of the parent breeds. The Aussiedoodle is generally a very healthy dog, but some common health issues to be aware of include hypothyroidism , hip dysplasia, deafness, and epilepsy. Checking the genetic history of the parents and asking for the results of any health screens can give you an idea of what to expect in a puppy and allay any health concerns. The Aussiedoodle is known for being an intelligent crossbreed. This often makes them highly trainable. They are also sensitive and eager to please, which means they respond best to positive training techniques focused on rewards and praise. Early socialization and training help your Aussiedoodle puppy grow into a well-adjusted dog. Due to their high energy level, they tend to be a better fit for intermediate to experienced dog owners that know how to handle their energy and keep up with them. Their intelligence, paired with their high energy level and working group background, means they are often easily bored and do best when they have a job to do. The busier and more engaged their job keeps them the better. They also love learning new tricks! Without a job to do, they will find ways to entertain themselves, which can result in unwanted or even destructive behavior. Between the Australian Shepherd and the Standard Poodle , the Aussiedoodle coat colors and patterns vary greatly. With the Poodle in the mix, this mixed dog breed can pick up some hypoallergenic qualities and is often low-shedding. However, they have can long, straight fur, a curly coat, or something in the middle, so be prepared for regular grooming to prevent tangles and matting. You may also need to have them professionally groomed every months. Start getting your puppy used to you handling their paws and ears and brushing their teeth early on. Daily brushing is ideal to help keep tartar buildup at bay. An Aussiedoodle will generally have a moderate to high energy level. A good walk a few times a day paired with some active playtime and plenty of attention will keep this pup happy and healthy. Aussiedoodles are also active and athletic enough to compete in dog sports. They tend to be a good fit for flyball, agility, rally, and obedience. They may also love to swim, which is a great activity to help them expel extra energy. In addition to going swimming with your dog , you can also take your Aussiedoodle on a hike with you or on trips to the dog park. Aussiedoodles are medium-sized dogs that usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Looking at the size of the parents, particularly the mother, can give you a good idea of what size to expect in your Aussiedoodle. An Aussiedoodle generally lives for years. Aussiedoodles are fantastic companions and highly intelligent. Featured Aussiedoodle Article. The Mini Aussiedoodle, also sometimes referred to as a Miniature Aussiepoo, is a smaller version of the larger Aussiedoodle. It is a cross between an Australian Shepherd and a Miniature Poodle. Their smaller size and sweet disposition make them great companions as well as therapy dogs and emotional support dogs. Miniature Aussiedoodles are friendly, affectionate, devoted to their owners, and highly intelligent. They are lovable balls of fluff with a lot of energy that get along with children, other animals, and other people. Their friendly nature and openness do not generally make them good guard dogs. But, they can be good watchdogs in the sense that they will let you know when someone is around. They may inherit the herding instinct from the Australian Shepherd side. That, paired with their playful nature, could culminate in your Miniature Aussiedoodle attempting to herd family members to keep them in the same place. Training early on can curb any herding tendencies that start to show. Mini Aussiedoodles adapt well to any living situation, but can be more sensitive to weather. Due to their smaller size, they are less able to handle very hot or very cold weather. That is something to keep in mind when you take them outside during the summer or winter. In the winter, keep their coat groomed at a normal or a little longer length and bundle them up with some winter dog gear to help them handle the cold better. They do tend to do best in a home with a yard where they can run around. But, with proper exercise and plenty of attention, these dogs can adapt to apartment living as well. They crave attention from their families, so do not like to be alone for long periods of time. This mixed dog breed can sometimes develop separation anxiety. Oftentimes, a good workout before you leave plus some challenging puzzle toys can help them handle alone time a little bit better. There are health issues to be aware of with any dog breed and mixed breeds are no different. Sometimes the genetic variation in the mixed dog breed can result in some immunity and sometimes the mixed breed is still susceptible to the health conditions common in both parent breeds. Mini Aussiedoodles are generally very healthy dogs, but some health conditions to be aware of are deafness, allergies, epilepsy , hypothyroidism, and hip dysplasia. The genetic history of the parents and the results of any health tests can help you determine what to expect and allay any potential health concerns. Between their intelligence and their higher energy level, Miniature Aussiedoodles are highly trainable, but they can also be a handful. Dog owners with some experience with high energy breeds tend to be a better fit for this mixed dog breed. Novice owners can have success as long as they live an active lifestyle, are capable of handling a high-energy dog, and are willing to enroll in obedience classes to help them nail positive training techniques. Mini Aussiedoodles love having a job to do and are eager to please. This mixed dog breed will pick up on things easily, but will also tend to get bored. Ensuring they have a job to do goes a long way in keeping this energetic pup occupied. They also tend to be athletic, so can be good candidates for dog sports like rally, obedience, flyball, and agility. Because of the mix between the Australian Shepherd and the Miniature Poodle , coat colors and patterns will vary with the Miniature Aussiedoodle. The texture will be soft and will likely be low-shedding with some hypoallergenic properties. However, their coat is not low maintenance. It can be long and straight, curly, or anything between. You will want to brush your Mini Aussiedoodle a few times a week to keep their fur free of tangles and to prevent matting. You will also want to get them professionally groomed every months. Their ears will need to be checked regularly to ensure they are clean and dry and their nails will need to be trimmed once or twice monthly. Daily tooth brushing is ideal to prevent tartar buildup. Getting your puppy used to having their paws and ears handled and introducing them to having their teeth brushed early on will make grooming and care much easier as they grow. This is a moderate to high energy mixed dog breed that needs plenty of exercise, attention, and mental stimulation to remain happy and healthy. Walks a few times a day and active playtime every day should be sufficient. This pup requires an active lifestyle, so engaging in more rigorous activities like swimming, hiking, dog sports, or taking trips to the dog park are also a good idea. Ongoing training and ensuring your Mini Aussiedoodle always has a job to do will keep your pup happy and generally well-behaved. If left without a job or proper exercise, they will often find ways to entertain themselves, which can result in destructive behavior. Miniature Aussiedoodles usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. With mixed breeds, looking at the size of the parents can give you a good idea of what to expect as your puppy grows. The Mini Aussiedoodle generally lives for years. Featured Miniature Aussiedoodle Article. High About the Breed With the gorgeous hypoallergenic coat of the Miniature Poodle parent and the active nature of the Australian Shepherd, the Mini Aussiedoodle is ranked as one of the most popular puppy breeds in the world, and for good reason. Though the history of the Mini Aussiedoodle remains unclear, it is believed that like many of the designer dogs that have appeared over the last several decades, this stunning dog appeared at the beginning of the s. Dog breeders at that time aimed to create crossbreed dogs that would inherit all the lovely qualities of two distinct breeds. The Mini Aussiedoodle is a good example of their success. The Mini Australian Shepherd and Poodle parents are incredibly smart dogs. And their high intelligence is one trait that Mini Aussiedoodles carry proudly. They are renowned for their intelligence and are one of the easiest dog breeds to train. With their playful and social demeanor, these dogs require lots of love and attention and are very fond of companionship. They make cute and loyal companion dogs for any type of owner. Although they have only been around for a few decades, Mini Aussiedoodles are ranked as one of the most popular mixed breeds in the world. Appearance and Grooming Mini Aussiedoodles have ears that hang down, small black almond-shaped eyes, and a medium-sized muzzle. They have the Australian Shepherd's features with the straight to curly, soft, and silky coat of the Poodle. These adorable features make this puppy the perfect mix of both parent breeds. Mini Aussiedoodle coats include the colors white, blue, black, yellow, brown, red, silver, and gray. Like the Standard Aussiedoodle, the Miniature version can also come in blue merle and red merle. Brushing their fur 2 to 3 times a week is recommended. Regular trips to the groomer also help to keep their coats clean and their nails trimmed. Temperament Protective but not aggressive, these dogs can be quite easy-going and surprisingly attentive. This breed is as playful and active as it is cuddly and calm. Known for their tendencies to become bored quickly, you can curb this with proper amounts of toys, mental stimulation, and playtime. Family and Companionship A perfect companion, this loyal and loving dog will make for an excellent addition to the family. With strong traits of adaptability and affection, your new puppy will surely get along well with children and other pets. Because of their friendly nature, it is not a good idea to bring one of these dogs into your home as a watchdog, but rather as a member of the family. Exercise With its strong desire to play and heightened curiosity, your new companion will need exercise throughout the day and the opportunity to run and show off its agility talents. A recommended two walks a day with some backyard playtime should be plenty to keep these dogs healthy and happy. Because of their curious nature and need to socialize, these dogs will want to run straight into a crowd. It is recommended to keep an eye and leash on your puppy at all times when in social areas and gatherings. Training and Socialization Considered to be an extremely bright dog that is eager to please, the Mini Aussidoodle will listen and obey commands easily. These aspects make training them a fairly easy task. Practicing patience with positive reinforcement and a reward-based approach to training will surely reward you with a long, happy, and healthy relationship with your pooch. Aussiedoodle Description The Aussiedoodle is a medium size, extremely fluffy and super cute breed of designer dog you get from crossing an Australian Shepherd and a Standard Poodle. But overall, they are a medium size dog with a slim yet strong body. Their coats vary in color and their fur is curly and soft to the touch. Discover more about our Aussiedoodle puppies for sale below! Owing to the Poodle influence, the Aussiedoodle may have a wide variety of coats and the length is generally moderate, they can be slightly wavy to very wavy or wool like the Poodle. No matter the amount of curl they most always have a VERY soft coat. They compare to other doodles like the Goldendoodle in coat texture. Crossing the two breeds gives you a dog that has the flashy Australian Shepherd color combinations and amazing eyes. Australian Shepherds are perceptive and bright as well as easy to train mixed with the high intelligence and humor of the Poodle. Plus, they are super cute! The Aussiedoodle is generally an extremely intelligent, highly trainable, playful, and loving breed. They are also eager to please and love having a job, such as playing catch or competing in agility. They are an excellent choice for intermediate dog owners who can keep up with their energy levels. The Aussiedoodle excels in agility. They are a well-rounded breed that loves to play but can be content to lay at your feet as long as they also get adequate exercise. An hourly walk or jog will do, as these dogs love following their human companions wherever they go. An Aussiedoodle that is well cared for will often enjoy a lifespan of 13 years. Grooming The Aussiedoodle is low to non-shedding and therefore may not be for a severe allergy sufferer; however, a person with mild to moderate allergies should not have any problem with an Aussiedoodle. The hair gene from the Poodle is a dominant gene over the double coat fur gene from the Aussie. Unlike the Poodle which needs to be professionally groomed every weeks, the Aussiedoodle usually can go almost twice as long between haircuts. In fact, a first generation Aussiedoodle has a greater chance of being a non-shedding dog than any future generation. The goal of crossing the Australian Shepherd and the Standard Poodle was to produce Aussiedoodle puppies that hold desired traits from both the Poodle and the Australian Shepherd and for their non-shedding results. Training The Aussiedoodle is amazingly smart, willing to work for you and super easy to train. Sometimes they only need to be shown once or twice what is expected of them, because they live to please you! They love kids and are an awesome choice as an all-around patient family dog. They are great companions for camping, fishing, hiking or just hanging out around the house and lounging on the couch. The traits they inherit come from both their Poodle and Australian Shepherd parents and require constant human interaction and affection to maintain a happy and balanced life. However, as with all dogs, it is important their owners provide them with rules, boundaries, and limitations as well as consistent leadership to ensure a well-behaved and balanced dog. Aussiedoodles are extremely loving towards children and make excellent family pets. They should, however, be supervised around very young children as they can accidentally hurt them due to their high energy. Aussiedoodles sometimes retain the herding instincts of the Australian Shepherd and these instincts should be kept in check and corrected from a very early age. Early training and socialization are extremely important. Origin The Aussiedoodle is a relatively new designer dog breed that is in high demand. Both the Australian Shepherd and the Poodle are remarkably smart dogs with sweet and playful natures, which makes them fantastic companions. Some Doodle mixes, such as the Bernedoodle or the Labradoodle, have a well-documented origin story, but the Aussiedoodle does not. Our best guess is that the Aussiedoodle shares his history with other designer dogs — meaning, they were first born sometime in the last 20 years, somewhere in the United States. Additional Information. Incredibly smart, playful, and loyal, these pups inherited some of the best qualities from both of their parents. He was shipped from Florida to me in Washington D. Prior to my first standard poodle I had always had dogs and owned various breeds including German Shepherds and Dobermans. Those two are great breeds but they both presented challenges for me and my lifestyle. By this time I already had 4 of my 6 children and as an Army officer and a helicopter pilot I traveled a great deal. I wanted a dog that was as intelligent and loyal as the previous dogs I had owned but one that did NOT shed. I also wanted a dog that would be protective, but not to the extent that I had to worry when dozens of neighborhood children would run in and out of the yard and house. As the years passed I started showing my poodles in obedience, obtaining a Companion Dog CD certification on Caesar very quickly. After our divorce it was too time consuming for me to continue to show my poodle and be a working single parent raising 6 children. So I only bred on occasion, keeping what I thought was the best representation of the breed. In the summer of I had the unique opportunity to reacquire some poodles I had whelped and sold; a boy and two girls. Before I made the leap from three to six standards I made the decision to breed and show standard poodles full time when I retired from the military and needed to do two things right at the start to be successful. First was to compete my dogs in confirmation, not just obedience, and second was to find a handler as my career still keeps me too busy to show on my own. Shipps Anani Keanu was my first champion and although I cannot take any credit for his breeding he has a wonderful pedigree and was expertly finished by Paula Ford of Aldea Kennels. Ulysses, my first home bred silver champion, is the result of 5 generations of selective breeding and a little good luck. It really is not enough for me to say that I have great dogs, a judge representing the collective expertise of the American Kennel Club must think likewise. I sincerely believe I am well down that path. More Use tab to navigate through the menu items. The Multi-Generational Labradoodle tends to be a great companion for people with allergies. Their coats come in a variety of colors such as red, caramel, apricot, chocolate, cream, black, and parti. At Dawson Creek we feel our puppy protocol is a very important part of our program. We follow the Puppy Culture Program for Breeders and feel it is a major asset in the development of our puppies. Our puppy cultural protocol begins before the puppies arrive and continues throughout their stay at Dawson Creek. However, most importantly, socialization does not end at Dawson Creek for our puppies. We provide strategies and suggestions to help our customers continue the puppy socialization process at home where our Dawson Creek puppies can strive and flourish in their new homes. We would like to share with you a quick glance of what our puppy cultural protocol involves: From the moment of arrival, we begin touching and stroking our puppies as much as possible. Daily cuddle sessions begin during the puppies first stage of life. Days three through 16 are very important. During this stage we provide early neurological stimulation that includes placing the puppy in the palm of your hand and holding the puppy in a variety of positions. Daily cuddle sessions continue. A very exciting and precious time at Dawson Creek for us is the Transitional Period. During this period the puppies are two to three weeks old. The puppies began opening their eyes and moving around more frequently in the whelping box. The opening of their eyes and the toddling around are the first milestones that we record. Towards the end of the Transitional Period the puppies begin to move around with more stability. This is when we began providing the puppies with large squeaky crackle toys to get the startle -recover — curiosity exploration affect. Also, during this period we add a potty area to our whelping box, begin carrying the puppies to short visits to new rooms in the household, and allowing them to explore outside of the whelping box on a variety of textured quilts, blankets, and pads. During this stage the puppies are wormed for the first time and their toenails are clipped. As the puppies continue to grow stronger, they reach the Socialization Period. During this stage the puppies are approximately three to four weeks old. We continue daily cuddling, snuggling, and touching sessions. Also, new toys and sounds are being introduced on- a -daily- basis. The puppies continue to explore new rooms and areas of the house and begin having Short Pup visits with outside family members. During this stage the puppies are being introduced to water and mush. Socialization becomes a little more advanced at week five. The puppies are removed from the nursery and transferred to the weaning pin. Here they experience a variety of new toys, a potty area, crates, and a play pin. The play pin is full of tunnels, balls, toys, things to climb on, and variety of chew toys. During this time the outside world is viewed for the first time. This opens a new world of experiences with many out- door activities. The puppies motor skills have developed very well. Therefore, they are free to run, jump, and play with their siblings. Also, during this time the puppies are being exposed to new training experiences with a clicker. They are rewarded for good behavior such as coming when called, following, sitting on the grooming table, manding sitting with the bottom on the ground and focusing on the trainer. They receive their first visit from the vet and are receiving softened dog food mixed in with their mush. Snuggling, touching, and daily cuddling sessions continue daily. Socialization continues as the puppies move to weeks seven and eight. They are introduced to individual crates and their take home snuggle puppy. Also, the puppies are now taking potty breaks after meals, being exposed to very shallow water, and being introduced to a leash on a sniff and stroll adventure. Cuddling and snuggling session are still occurring daily. The puppies have now transitioned to dry dog food, been weaned from mom, and will receive another vet visit soon. As the puppies prepare to transition to their new homes Dawson Creek is gathering materials to send home with the new puppy parents where socialization will continue, and our puppies will thrive at their new homes. We are very proud to have joined the Puppy Culture Protocol for Breeders. We feel this has become an important asset to our program. Post by: Emily W. These dogs can be described in many ways: wonderful family dogs, great companions, fantastic workout buddies, and a best friend. Since dogs of this breed have quite a bit of energy, they may be a little too much for first-time dog parents, but overall, these dogs can along with nearly everyone. Dogs of this breed can also do well in a multi-pet home, though it is most helpful when your pup is socialized and introduced to their four-legged siblings from a young age. Breed History Labradoodles first made an appearance in the s. Australian dog breeder, Wally Conron, was tasked with creating a guide dog that was more suitable for people with a dog allergy. Having a lower dander count, Poodles were the perfect breed to mix with the friendly and helpful Labrador Retriever, thus began the Labradoodle. Over the years, as Doodle mixes have become increasingly more popular, the Mini Australian Labradoodle came about as a mix between Poodles , Labradors , and Cocker Spaniels. These dogs are unique because they are a mix of three separate breeds, not the usual two. Mini Australian Labradoodles vs. Cockapoos vs. Cockapoos are a mix of two breeds: Cocker Spaniels and Poodles. As you may have already concluded from their name, Aussiedoodles have Australian Shepherd and Poodle parents. Attributes The typical Mini Australian Labradoodle temperament is favorable and easy-going. These are a great middle-of-the-road breed, making them a wonderful choice for most families. However, before adopting one, most pet parents first have some questions about these dogs that they want to be answered. Yes, Mini Australian Labradoodles do shed, though not excessively. With that in mind, how much your dog sheds may be determined by their coat texture: hair, fleece, or wool. Usually, hair will shed the most and wool the least. Are Mini Australian Labradoodles Hypoallergenic? No dog breed is fully hypoallergenic, but some are more allergy-friendly than others , the Mini Australian Labradoodle being one of them. Mini Australian Labradoodles are considered small, typically weighing between pounds and standing around inches at their shoulder. Even though these are the standard measurements for these dogs, there can be variance from one litter to another because they are a mixed breed. Training One of the many fun and rewarding parts of being a dog parent is getting to train your dog. Training can be a rewarding process that is both enjoyable for you and your dog, plus it allows you and your best pal to spend some quality time with one another. Training should begin as early as possible. Whether you adopt your dog at five months of age or five years, you can start training the very day you bring your pal home. Remember to be consistent, patient, never use harsh tones, and provide rewards for a job well done. If you notice that your dog seems to be getting bored during training, it may be helpful to keep sessions on the shorter side, mix up commands, or simply change the environment in which you are training. On top of commands, other essential training items include house training. You may be surprised just how quickly these intelligent dogs can learn, but some Mini Australian Labradoodles may take a little more time than others. For dog parents, crate training is also a valuable resource. Not to mention, whenever your dog is home alone, you can have the peace of mind that they will be secure in their crate, instead of possibly rooting around in the garbage or making confetti out of your couch. Going hand-in-hand with training is socialization. Socialization mainly involves introducing your dog to new people, places, sights, and sounds, so the possibilities are endless. Grooming Keeping your pup well-groomed is a major responsibility of being a dog parent. Helping your pup look their best can also help them feel their best. If they appear dirty, clean the outer ear with a cotton ball and dog-safe ear cleaning solution—never use cotton swabs or clean down into the inner ear. Though their floppy ears are adorable, Mini Australian Labradoodles can be more likely to develop ear infections because of them. Keeping their ears clean and drying them thoroughly after a bath or swim can help reduce infections. If you notice that your dog is prone to getting eye goopies, simply use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away from their eyes gently. Use a new cloth or the opposite corner for each eye. Of course, coat care is an essential grooming item when it comes to Mini Australian Labradoodles. On top of monthly nail trimming and a bath every few months, your pup will also need their hair trimmed every few months. Like nearly all Doodles, their hair will continuously grow, so you can either give them a little trim every so often or do a more drastic haircut a few times a year. Care Caring for a Mini Australian Labradoodle is a rewarding task. Given the care and attention they need, in return, these adorable pups will shower you with unconditional love. Step one of caring for your best pal is to find an outlet for that Mini Australian Labradoodle energy. As a smaller breed, these dogs typically require close to an hour of physical exercise every day. This can be in the form of a walk, hike, jog, or run. Even some off-leash running is a terrific option, as long as your pup is in a securely fenced-in area. On top of exercise, your Mini Australian Labradoodle will also want some playtime every day. Mini Australian Labradoodles are intelligent dogs that enjoy getting the chance to work their minds. Mini Australian Labradoodles are naturally social dogs that prefer to spend time with their family. By exercising and playing with your dog, you are simultaneously providing them with the one-on-one attention they crave and the mental and physical stimulation they need. Providing your dog with a nutritious and age-appropriate diet is crucial to keep them energized and in great health. Too many treats can lead to some unwanted pounds and eventually to obesity. Common Health Issues Mini Australian Labradoodles are relatively healthy dogs, but they are still susceptible to developing health issues. When you first adopt your Mini Australian Labradoodle, it will be necessary to establish them with a local veterinarian. Plus, these appointments can also be beneficial for you. This way your first night home will be a smoother transition for your puppy. We believe that attention to every detail is important. We are very approachable and when our materials do not answer a question you might have, we are committed to answering all your questions and fully preparing you to bring home your new family member. Our Goal is Excellence! Our goal at every point in the process is excellence. When you decide that Magnolia Australian Labradoodles is the best choice for your family, we take your decision very seriously. You become part of our family! We are passionate about sharing this exquisite breed with others, and providing wonderful homes for our pups. Once we decided to get an Australian Labradoodle, we then set out to find the best breeder we could find. We spent several months trying to find a breeder with not only good reviews, but also one who would understand our needs having a son with autism. We thought we had found a good breeder but they were not responsive and their contract was crazy long with some pretty crazy requirements. Right from the start, Judy was very responsive to ALL our questions. She understood our concerns about getting the right dog for our son. Once we decided to go forward with it, she even let us come visit to get to know our soon-to-be new family member. She has been so responsive to our questions and concerns even after bringing little JoJo home. Her training program has made such a huge difference and has taken away so much of the normal stress of having a new puppy. Thank you Judy. We are so in love with our sweet little JoJo. We elected to do bring our pup home around 12 weeks so he could do the advanced training and it was the right choice. Our pup did amazing in his crate, adjusted quickly and was comfortable going out on a leash to learn his bathroom spot at this new house. He did great with a 18 month old and 5 year old without any nipping. Chris Beck The decision to add a dog into our family was a big one. We took our time researching, with the selection of a breeder being a huge factor. I stumbled upon Judy at Magnolia Labradoodles and was instantly intrigued. I liked that she only had one litter at a time. I knew my puppy would be getting attention and care. I liked that past customers said she was responsive and the experience was personal. My telephone conversation with her was also critical. I had lots of questions and she had answers for all of them and gave me all the time I needed to feel comfortable. I could tell she loved what she did and it was personal to her…not just a business. We opted for the additional training and felt this made the transition home for our dog go smoothly. He did not nip at us, knew his name, how to focus on us, how to sit and was happy in his crate. We had to wait quite a while to bring our dog home, but Judy kept us updated with photos and videos. She even face-timed my children twice so they could see their dog. It was a great experience and worth the wait. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Labradoodles. We have always had English Labrador Retrievers, but due to us getting older we wanted something a little smaller but also hardy. Lexi is everything you could ask for: intelligent, kind, loving, good with people and children, loves all dogs, loves to play with our cat, walks and hikes great and the added bonus if the above items are not enough they are absolutely gorgeous!!!! We had an amazing experience with Judy!! Judy was always there to answer all my questions and she still is a year later!! That in itself is an outstanding quality, not to mention the wonderful job Judy does getting them ready for their forever homes. If you are skeptical about doing the 3 week training…DO IT!!! It was well worth it. We put Lexi in her crate the first night and she went right to sleep. I will never forget when we went to pick Lexi up. Judy let us in and there in the living room was this gorgeous, well behaved dog that just sat there until I went over and picked her up. I started crying and as I turned around, so was Judy!! That just showed me the love and compassion she has for raising these outstanding dogs. If after reading this, if you are still unsure, please feel free to contact me. Judy has my contact information. Debbie Stierly Working with Judy was fantastic. Cadbury Harmony and Rhett is as perfect a puppy as you could imagine. From the beginning, Judy helped my daughters face their fear of dogs and see how kind and loving puppies can be. This is absolutely a much better way to ensure success. Judy treats her pups with love and kindness. She dotes on them! When we brought Cadbury home, family and friends could not get over his calm and loving personality. He adjusted immediately, slept well on the first night, and already had learned manners. While it is hard to wait the extra 3 weeks, it is so nice to have a puppy that has learned basic obedience, crate training, and potty training! If you plan to add a puppy to your family and want a dog that will be sweet, obedient, and gentle, look no further! Judy was excellent throughout the process and was responsive, organized, detailed and passionate. Lucy was the smallest in the litter of Harmony and Rhett and needed a lot of extra care just to be able to make it to our home. Judy spent many sleepless nights to make this happen. Lucy is…. She is a kind and gentle puppy with a great spirit for adventure. We are enjoying her everyday! I highly recommend working with Judy if you are looking for a great addition to your family! The puppy that we recently got from Magnolia Australian Doodles was worth the wait and cost for such a lovely little addition to our menagerie. He was introduced to numerous adults, noisy children, other dogs, a cat, sweeper, hour car ride home and multiple other stimuli and he was unfazed. And this was just during the first two days. Not to mention a huge thunder and lightening storm. He is going to one of those special dogs, you talk about. PK Pamela Kratzer Five stars are honestly not enough! Judy made the experience of getting a puppy so easy and stress free. She was always available, and answered my thousands of questions. She sent us updates and photos weekly too! You can tell Judy puts her heart and soul into caring for each litter. Our puppy is almost 3 months old, and we are so happy we chose Magnolia Australian Labradoodles! Our puppy slept the whole first night, and is the most loving and fun puppy ever! Despite the pandemic going on, Judy did her best to socialize the puppies. She sends you home with a complete binder with everything you need to raise your puppy! Duke has been a great addition to our family and I highly recommend Magnolia Australian Labradoodles if you want a caring and knowledgeable breeder!! You guys are truly incredible. Thank you. He really brings a smile to all of us, all the time. I had done a lot of research on the web of this breed. Judy welcomed my questions and answered with obvious knowledge of having done her own research. She was able to answer any question or concern that I may have had. I highly recommend Judy and Magnolia Australian Labradoodle kennel to anyone looking for a beautiful Australian Labradoodle. I would also highly recommend the additional 3 weeks with Judy as she trains and teaches confidence. Ella came to us, confident and well adjusted. She was able to be in her crate all night 9hrs without even a whimper. She was able to sit and layed down on command. She is a lovable, sweet, attentive and is so well adjusted from the minute we brought her home. Without any hesitation, I give all the credit to her first human mommy, Judy Adams of Magnolia Australian Labradoodles. We adore our Little Miss Ella!! Joyce Rusin.
