Typically, a nice long walk around the neighborhood or a run in the park is enough for them. If you are extremely active, your Box-a-Shar will quite happily exercise with you. Of course, you should remember that just as exercise is important for good human health, it is also an important part of keeping your dog fit and healthy, which means that a dog that exercises more frequently is likely to stay healthy longer than one who gets less regular exercise. Also, these dogs can occasionally become a little stubborn, and as frustrating as that is, the best way to move past this may be to change up what it is you are doing and try to turn the activity into a game for your dog. Ideally, you should brush them at least once or twice a week to remove any loose hair from their coat. When it comes to bathing, it is best to limit their baths to when they need it. Box-a-Shars should also have their teeth brushed once or twice a week with a canine toothpaste, their ears checked for obstructions regularly, and their nails clipped every other month to prevent them from growing too long and breaking. With hybrid breeds, it is difficult to say with any certainty whether conditions that typically affect one of their parent breeds will be passed on to your puppy, but unless you have veterinary advice to the contrary, it is always best to assume that they can. Careful and selective breeding practices can reduce the impact of many hereditary health problems. For this reason, you should always purchase a puppy from a reputable breeder. The conditions to which the Box-a-Shar is susceptible include: Minor Conditions. Black, golden, light brown, merle Suitable for: Families with children and pets who want an affectionate breed Temperament: Loyal, affectionate, great with other pets and children This breed is ideal for families that already have other pets or children and are looking for a large, affectionate dog. Although this breed is large and strong, it is really affectionate, loyal, and gets along with almost any member of the family. If you are considering reading a Boxpei, read this article first. This complete guide tells you everything you need to know about Boxpei ownership so that you can decide whether or not this adorable breed is right for your home. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. Even though Shar Peis and Boxers alone are really popular dogs, this mix is not. Because of the rarity of this breed, finding a Boxpei puppy can be a bit challenging. There is almost no chance that you will be able to find this attractive breed in a local shelter, especially if it is a puppy. Occasionally, you can find an adult Boxpei at the local shelter, but even that is not a given. In addition to paying for the puppy, you will have to pay other puppy prices, such as getting the dog vaccinated, licensed, and comfy in your new home. They are incredibly loving and loyal, even to other animals and children. At the same time, they are moderately intelligent and want to please. Together, these factors make Boxpeis one of the more loving and easier to train dogs. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are patient, gentle with children, and like rough playing with older members of the family. These facts make Boxpeis a great addition to any family, whether the family includes adults, children, or teenagers. With that being said, socialization is really important for any dog. If you socialize the Boxpei early, it will be more likely to get along with every member of the family. Even though Boxpeis tend to be a very gentle breed, that does not mean that an individual dog will not act aggressively to a child that is pestering it. At the same time, make sure that you teach your child how to play with dogs respectfully and appropriately. In addition to being great family dogs, Boxpeis tend to be really great with other animals as well. When it comes to other dogs, they are much more friendly than other breeds of its size. For best results, get puppies at the same time so that the two dogs grow up together. For cats and other small animals, the Boxpei is likely to get along with them too. Many Boxpei owners claim that their cats love to curl up and snooze with their dog. Once again, socialization with cats and other animals is an important step to ensuring your Boxpei gets along with them. This is true in terms of exercise, training, and grooming, though they do eat a lot. These facts make it a great dog for people who want a low maintenance breed or who have never trained a big dog before. Because of their large size, you need to fuel them with the right amount and type of food. Make sure to always provide your Boxpei a lot of water. Taking your Boxpei on a walk once a day will be enough to keep it happy and healthy. At the same time, your Boxpei will be more than happy to be active with you if you are an active person. With working roots, these dogs can keep up, even though they tend to be a bit lazy by choice. This makes them a great breed for both active and moderately active families alike. These dogs are very eager to please their owners and are moderately intelligent, resulting in an easy training experience. Focusing on encouragement and praise goes a long way with these dogs. On the other hand, negative reinforcement does not work very well with Boxpeis. Because they want to please their owners so much, negative reinforcement often causes them to withdrawal from the task. Remember to be patient with your Boxpei and use as little negative reinforcement as possible. Brush their coat once or twice a week to keep it healthy and minimize shedding around your home. Only give your Boxpei a bath when they need it and use a dog approved shampoo. One thing you have to be careful about when it comes to Boxpeis is their dental help. This breed is known to have poor dental checkups. Brush their teeth once or twice a week using toothpaste formulated for canines. Also, clean out their ears as necessary, and clip nails every other month. However, to unhealthy parents will often result in an unhealthy puppy. Talking to your vet for screenings can help you rule out severe illnesses from an early age. Reputable breeders make sure to use parent dogs that are healthy and never abuses them. Still, there are a couple of illnesses that are most prevalent in Boxpeis. These conditions can range from minor to serious. Minor Conditions.

Prior to this, the GSP was bred to be a superb hunting dog. One of the facts about German Shorthaired Pointers is that they were bred to be uniquely suited for hunting fowl and small prey as both a pointer and a retriever. They were even competent trackers for deer hunters. During World War II, German Shorthaired Pointers were so valued that they were smuggled away along with other valuables such as jewels and artworks to avoid confiscation in Nazi Germany. Yet, the elegant and athletic GSP also makes an outstanding family companion. These energetic dogs are highly sociable and really work to please their human families. They are highly trainable and will perform for praise or food. They are intelligent and cheerful in a stimulating and nurturing environment. They prefer to be with their families and thrive on attention from them. Well-socialized GSPs tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and sometimes other pets. They do have a high prey drive so they will need extra training and socialization around smaller pets in the household. They generally can do well with small pets they were raised with, but will usually maintain that urge to chase prey-type animals outside of their family. German Shorthaired Pointers tend to bark to alert you. Provided they are socialized well, barking should not become a nuisance. German Shorthaired Pointers can be highly adaptable dogs. Their energy level tends to make them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run freely. Their short coat may mean they need some winter dog products to stay warm while out on cold winter walks. Because they bond so closely with their families and crave attention from them, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. On top of experiencing separation anxiety , especially if you do not work them on it early on, they also get bored easily. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies. Because I want my breeding dogs to have wonderful homes just like our puppies, I offer a guardianship program. Guardian dogs are placed with loving families free-of-charge so they can have normal, happy home lives while still providing me with beautiful puppies. The Guardian Process I interview potential guardians first by phone and then personally either in my home or theirs. Once a family is accepted into the program, a puppy I choose for breeding is given to them to raise. My females are usually bred once per year and retired when they are between years old. My males I use a lot more often than the females for obvious reasons. And they are retired like the females around years of age. Once pregnant, all female dogs will be returned to Breeder 1 week before due date for whelping birthing. The female will remain with the me for weeks while the puppies are nursed and finally weaned. Or the guardian may opt to keep momma and pups for an agreed upon time span. All food, grooming, general care, and veterinary expenses are the responsibility of the guardian. Any expenses related to the breeding and pregnancies of the guardian dogs are the responsibility of Breeder, including additional food and supplies the guardian requires during the pregnancy or after if momma and pups remain with her family. They can also be great adventure buddies and loyal companions for folks in all life stages. Because of their low-non shed coats, they can be great for families and individuals with mild to moderate allergies. Because of their furnishings the fluffiness around their muzzle, eyebrows, and legs , they have hair on their coat instead of fur. Because of this, goldendoodles can be considered moderate to high maintenance for grooming. They will need routine brushing and combing by their owners, plus professional grooming every weeks. Goldendoodles are characterized as extremely smart. Because of this, it is important to fill their need for mental stimulation and give them training and activities. One more characteristic to note is that goldendoodles are extremely social animals and love their family and pack. Goldendoodles do not necessarily work well with folks who out of the house a lot while they are left home, or would prefer a dog that can be a bit more independent. They are great with folks who want a bond with their pup and a pup that is considered a companion. Doodles also typically are great with other family dogs - and getting 2 doodles a year apart can be a great experience. Meet the Mamas. They are just so much fun to have around, and they are also very popular. Just by adopting a dog from one of these organizations does mean you are providing them with a new chance at life. It creates such a wonderful bond between the two of you that it will undoubtedly make it all worth your while. Why a Rescue Dog? The problem with a rescue dog is often due to a misunderstanding. People think dogs end up here because they are problematic, but that is rarely the case. For most, they are there through no fault of their own, and they simply want to be loved. Also, adopting an adult dog is easy. If you have never had to do that, then it is difficult and stressful. Also, a puppy needs their vaccinations, and that is something you need to keep on top of. Thanks to adopting an older dog, you miss all of that out. These dogs have been checked by a vet, and they have had all of their vaccinations. It just makes everything so much easier, and you will also have a wonderful dog for the family. Why a Goldendoodle? But now, why would you go ahead and adopt a Goldendoodle instead of one of the multitudes of other breeds out there? Well, this is an easy one for us to answer. Of course, it helps that they are exceptionally cute and adorable. Instead, this breed has a wonderful temperament that makes them ideal for a family pet. They will get on well with anybody of any age, so they are safe to have around children. Yes, they will come across as being full of fun and energy, but the joy they bring into the home makes this worthwhile. Also, if you love to teach your dogs tricks, then this breed is intelligent enough to pick up on what you want them to do. They just want to make you happy, and interacting with them will prove to be so much fun. That is why you need to make the different organizations aware of your intentions in advance. This then allows them to put you on a waiting list. Also, they will work with you to adopt the right dog for you. But then, you need to know the organizations to contact, and that is what we will look at next. During that time, they have helped countless dogs to be rehomed, and they help hundreds of dogs every single year. Their main focus is on trying to make their area a no-kill location, and that is why they seek to take in as many dogs as they can. They will then check over each dog and make sure they have the correct vaccinations before they can be adopted. They also seek to educate people when it comes to caring for dogs, so they will help you even after you have successfully adopted one of their animals. You are advised to contact them in advance to make sure they are aware of your desire to adopt a Goldendoodle. Instead, it utilizes foster homes and private boarding. They only adopt dogs out to homes in the Phoenix metro area with children no younger than eight. Then, complete an application for the dog. Better Days will contact you for a home visit to make sure you meet their strict backyard and fencing requirements. Then, you will foster the dog for a couple of weeks or months for a puppy before adopting to ensure the dog is right for your family. Puppy adoption also requires enrollment in puppy classes. Because they come from purebred dogs, each puppy can cost several thousands of dollars when purchased from a breeder. But purchasing a Goldendoodle puppy from a breeder is far less rewarding than adopting one from a rescue organization. With the rise of puppy mills, there are often Goldendoodles available to adopt rather than buy. Giving a Dog a Permanent Home The chance to give a dog a forever home and a new lease on life is one of the most significant advantages of adopting from a rescue. Sadly, dogs that remain unadopted for several days or weeks are often euthanized. Rescues are a crucial part of keeping dogs out of shelters. Consequently, choosing to adopt from a rescue saves lives. Paying Less to Adopt As we mentioned previously, Goldendoodle pups can cost several thousand dollars when purchased from a private breeder. Unfortunately, many pet parents may not be able to afford this steep price, limiting the number of loving caretakers capable of adopting this hybrid breed. But pet parents that adopt a Goldendoodle from a rescue typically pay a tiny fraction of the breeder price. Choosing a Happier Life Adopted rescue dogs have the opportunity to live an amazing life with their new owners. Several studies have shown that adopting a dog can decrease feelings of loneliness and stress. Becoming a proud dog owner can also help you enjoy more exercise, thus reducing your risk of developing specific health problems, including heart disease. Having a loyal dog by your side might even help you think more clearly and efficiently! For example, Goldendoodles bred from toy-type breeds like toy Poodles tend to be much smaller than those born from standard Poodles. Fur color is also something to consider before adopting a Goldendoodle from a rescue. After all, while Golden Retrievers are well-known for having lustrous gold-blonde coats, Poodles can have white, cream, brown, black, or even red coats! Personality and Needs Every dog is unique, regardless of breed. That said, many breeds have specific personality traits, grooming needs, and energy levels. Poodles are typically very active and intelligent. Their gorgeous curly coats require daily brushing. Golden Retrievers are also active dogs that enjoy playing outdoors. Because Goldendoodles are the hybrid of these two breeds, they tend to exhibit many of these qualities. For example, Goldendoodles tend to shed , and they love going on daily walks! Dogs raised in abusive or neglectful environments may exhibit unexpected responses to stimuli, such as growling, urinating, or hiding. While many of these behaviors can be re-trained with time and effort, not all pet parents have the means to rehabilitate their new pup. But pups naturally untrusting will need patient pet parents who understand their unique needs. Doing so can reduce surprises and help you prepare to bring your dog home. And remember, reputable rescue organizations are always willing to share details about their adoptable dogs. Final Thoughts Finding a Goldendoodle in need of a forever home may be easier than you think, especially with the help of these fantastic rescue organizations. Remember, choosing to adopt a rescue pup instead of buying from a breeder helps reduce the number of in-need animals in your community. If you have any questions about adopting from these rescues, be sure to reach out to them today for more information. Did you enjoy this list? Tell us what you think by leaving a comment. Fleece and wool coats are considered hypoallergenic as they are both a low shedding coat. Hair coats shed. This makes it less desirable and not suitable for people with allergies. It is more commonly found in first generation labradoodles. The labradoodle comes in multiple colours including cream, gold, chocolate and black. Temperament Labradoodles are friendly dogs. They love to spend time with both people and other pets. This makes them great family dogs. They are social and best suited to households where each family member can spend time with them every day. They are an excitable and high energy dog. Play with and exercise your labradoodle every day to keep it happy and healthy. They are an intelligent dog breed. They appreciate puzzle toys that make them work to get treats. Like all dogs, labradoodles will sometimes bark. They will alert you when someone is at the door or walking past your house but they are too happy to be aggressive towards them. If you want a labradoodle with a hypoallergenic coat that is allergy friendly, it is important to understand the differences below. They are all a labrador poodle mix but at different levels. F1 A F1 1st generation labradoodle is the result of a labrador retriever and poodle mating. These dogs are closer related to labradors so shed more hair and are not as suitable for severe allergy sufferers. They are usually bigger in size. F1B A F1B aka. They are more poodle than F1 and therefore barely shed, making them suitable for high allergy sufferers. F2 A F2 2nd generation labradoodle is two F1 dogs bred together. They are still half labrador retriever and half poodle but their genes are mixed more. They shed a minimal amount and are suitable for owners with allergies. Multi-Gen Multigenerational labradoodles are 3rd or subsequent generations. This allows more selective breeding with physical or personality traits. Health Labradoodles are a healthy breed. They have very few health problems and can live up to 15 years. Crossbreeding dogs lowers their likelihood of genetic diseases, making them healthier than purebred dogs. If you suspect your pet Labradoodle is unwell, always get it looked at by a vet. Even healthy Labradoodles should be taken to the vet annually for a check up. Labradoodles as Pets Labradoodles make great family pets. They get along well with humans and other dogs. Diet Feed them a standard diet of high quality dog food. Dry food is best as it prevents tartar build up on their teeth. Excess treats can lead to weight gain so limit these for special occassions or to use as rewards when training. Grooming Most labradoodles have moderate grooming needs. It is recommended you take your dog to a professional groomer every six weeks to have their hair washed, trimmed, nails cut, ears cleaned and eyes wiped off. Exercise Requirements Labradoodles are high energy dogs. They need daily exercise to wear them out physically and mentally. The best ways to do this is taking them to the dog park or for long walks in nature, playing fetch with their favourite toy or taking them swimming. How much space they need depends on their age but they are best suited to houses with a decent sized backyard and proper size kennel , so they have room to run around and play. Training Labradoodles are an intelligent dog breed. As they were originally developed to work as guide dogs, they are easy to train and eager to please. First time dog owners should keep in mind that the trick to training them is patience and hard work. An important part of their training is early socialization with other dogs, to prevent any aggression or fears developing. Taking them to the dog park regularly is a great way to both socialize and exercise them at the same time. Whilst training is most vital as a puppy, you should continue to teach your dog through all its life stages. Male or Female People often wonder if it is better to get a male or female pet labradoodle. Both genders if desexed are equally as loving and gentle. Either one would make a wonderful family pet. If you are thinking of getting two labradoodles, a male-male or male-female combination will cause no issues. Having two females is the most likely to cause fights. However, this can be managed by discouraging dominant or hostile behaviour from a young age. English bulldogs are some pretty funny looking creatures with their unique features that are quite distinct from other dog breeds. They have huge loose skin under their face that forms many air filled sacks over their muzzles, under eyes and even under their jowls giving them a unique appearance. This feature has made them perfect to play as Rosie the bulldog in the famous cartoon series The Bullwinkle Show. Another feature which makes them differ from other dog breeds are their foreshortened limbs, sparse coat and lack of tail. Where Are English Bulldogs Bred? English Bulldogs do not have a very big population all over the world including California CA. Therefore, it is recommended that you plan your purchase before visiting one of them so that you can ask all sorts of questions regarding the bulldog. You should inquire about the living conditions and preferences of a typical English Bulldog as these dogs have short muzzles which makes breathing a bit harder for them. They should be ideally kept indoors where fresh air can be easily circulated around their bodies to avoid respiratory issues occurring later on in life as well as overheating during hot summer days. It is also important to ensure cleanliness around their ears as they can suffer from many skin infections if proper care is not taken from time time. Visit Your California English Bulldog Breeder in Person English Bulldogs are a very unique breed and can be identified easily with their protruding lower jaws, wrinkled foreheads and the loose skin on their face. These dogs do not shed much hair and need to be brushed occasionally to remove dead hairs from their coats. If you really want to buy an English Bulldog in California CA, it is recommended that you get ready beforehand so that you will have a good checklist of things to discuss with your breeder. A great way to receive references would be to ask the breeder about other buyers he has served in the past and you can also collect some information about their experience through third party sources and online community forums. English Bulldogs have been quite popular throughout history and they have been used in dog fights for decades. Even though times have changed now, some people still raise these dogs for fighting which is not at all right. If you purchase an English Bulldog from a reputed breeder in California CA, you can be sure that it is not raised for fighting and will always remain happy. English Bulldogs can become really sick if they do not receive proper medical care. In fact, most veterinarians suggest that owners of this breed carry out regular health checkups with their dogs to avoid any major issues from occurring later on in life. Before you finalize a deal with an English Bulldog breeder in California, it is important to check how many of these dogs has the breeder bred till date. A responsible breeder would never compromise on the quality of their dogs for the sake of making a profit and would always breed a limited number of puppies each year. These dogs need a lot of care and attention, so it would be a good idea to have a crate ready for them to sleep at night or when you will not be around. If you do not have a crate within your reach, the bulldog breeders in California CA can even help you out with this and you can check out the bulldog ads on the internet for more information. You should also measure your house to make sure that the dog will be comfortable living there. Proper exercise is another aspect that needs to be taken care of if you are looking forward to have a healthy English Bulldog. In fact, some of these dogs get overweight quite often due to lack of exercise and unhealthy food. If you have a huge backyard or a park near your house, you can allow the dog to run around for some time. However, if you are living in an apartment, it is best that you take out time to walk your pet every day as this breed needs lots of physical activity if it has to live a healthy life without any major problems. These dogs are really stubborn and it can be quite difficult for them to learn the difference between a bathroom and other parts of the house. You can use a crate or a small room for this purpose when you will not be around and praise the dog when it does its business in that area of the house. It is best to keep lots of chew toys, balls and other accessories ready for your pup so that it does not get bored. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. It all started when attending Missouri State University and I began volunteering at an animal shelter. According to rankings by the American Kennel Club in , this breed is the number 2 in the option for families to buy amongst a selection of dog breeds. These bulldogs have a long history stemming from their original use for bull baiting in Britain. Many people still see these as an old English bulldog and a cultural icon, and it is one of the most popular dogs you will see in England. They do have fierce determination, persistence and an underrated strength, and these are part of why many people love them so much for a family companion. British bulldogs naturally have wide heads and shoulders, flat faces covered with skin folds and thick flaps, and a shorter and higher muzzle than many other dogs. Despite the strength and aggression they show to outsiders, you can be sure that your well-trained English bulldogs are perfect family friends that can be around your children with low chances of danger. This very tolerant breed loves to keep a quiet and watchful eye over its owners and is very good at informing you when they sense something wrong. Their short, stubby legs also make for some very funny moments, such as their clumsy efforts to climb onto surfaces, like your couch or their dramatic pouts and faces. Pet insurance company Protect My Paws recently published a study that found Paris had around 13 dogs per people, compared to around six dogs per people in New York City. These both fall short of Houston, Texas, which has an estimated 52 dogs per humans—the highest ratio in the world. Over the last years, Golden Retrievers have been bred and refined to create different styles and variations of the great family dog we all adore. American vs. Canadian vs. The American Golden is considered the general standard of the breed. While there are similar Canadian and British counterparts, the American is the most popular. The American Golden Retriever has a rich gold coat. The shades of gold can vary slightly but can be neither too light nor too dark. Adult males stand at the height of inches, while females stand at .Male American Goldens can weigh as much as pounds, while adult females are slightly smaller at pounds. American Golden Retrievers are well-loved by all, showing loyalty and friendly nature to everyone. They are also highly intelligent and eager to please. With that said, American Goldens are known for being a little more energetic than other breed variations. They make an excellent pet for younger couples who enjoy many outdoor activities or families who can spend a lot of time playing with them. These Goldens have a long golden coat that can vary slightly in the shade. They stand at the same height as adult American Golden Retrievers, with males being inches tall and females being .Canadian Goldens are also the same in weight, with males being pounds and females pounds. Overall, Canadian Goldens and American Goldens are the same dogs in different locations. While very similar to American Goldens, they do have some subtle differences. The British Golden is typically a lighter shade of gold than the American type. The standard weight for British Golden Retrievers is not specified, but most weigh anywhere between 55 to 70 pounds. British Golden Retrievers are highly devoted, friendly, and intelligent. Many breeders report that British Golden has fewer potential health conditions like hip dysplasia and elbow dysplasia than the American or Canadian versions. Still, there are no studies to confirm this. The English Cream Golden has a very pale cream to white coat shorter and thicker than standard American Goldens. They have a stockier build, with males standing around inches tall and females standing approximately inches. Adult male English Creams can weigh anywhere between pounds, and females weigh about pounds. English Cream Goldens have lovable personalities with a calm, friendly nature. They are incredibly smart and easy to train, as well. With that said, English Cream Golden Retrievers are often more expensive than other types of Goldens because of their desirable appearance. See our English Cream Golden Retriever puppies for sale for more information. They are highly motivated working dogs that enjoy sporting activities like hunting. These Goldens range in color from dark golden to red, with shorter to mid-length coats. They have a smaller stature than other Golden Retrievers, with adult males standing at inches and females at inches. Males can weigh between 60 and 70 pounds and females between 50 and 65 pounds. Field-bred Goldens are ideal for people who spend a lot of time outdoors. These dogs want to help with hunting or accompany you while fishing. They enjoy water sports and basically any outdoor activity. They may not be an excellent match for families who spend a lot of time indoors and cannot provide daily exercise. See our Field-bred Golden Retriever puppies for sale. Red Goldens get their name from their distinctly red coat. That is often a deep, bright red that distinguishes them from other kinds of Goldens. Their hair is often thinner and longer than other types of Goldens, as well. They tend to stand smaller in size, with males topping out at around inches and females .Adult males can weigh between 65 and 75 pounds and females between 55 and 65 pounds. With most red Goldens actually being Field-bred Goldens, they are highly driven and motivated to work. These dogs will have high energy levels and benefit from being given tasks to assist with. Check out our Red Golden Retriever puppies for sale. Show Golden Retriever Show Golden Retrievers are a style that is bred to meet exact breed specifications to be shown in competitions. With perfectly golden coats and long hair, Show Goldens are often quite remarkable in appearance. They are large-boned and thick in stature, with a wider, more broadhead than average Goldens. Show Golden Retrievers have all the same wonderful characteristics as other types of Goldens, being friendly and well-natured. However, since Show Goldens are bred to meet very specific breed standards, they are often costly. They are ideal for owners who are looking to exhibit their dogs in competitive dog shows. Find your new best friend from our list of top-quality show Golden Retriever puppies for sale. There is some debate about whether mini Golden Retrievers should really be considered a type of Golden, as they are technically crossbreeds. Since mini Golden Retrievers are hybrid breeds, they have no actual breed specifications. Their coat color can vary from light cream to dark gold or red, with extreme variations in length. Their heights vary, but most are under 20 inches tall, males and females. Their weights can vary as well, typically staying anywhere between 30 and 50 pounds. Miniature Golden Retrievers are excellent for anyone who desires certain personality traits of a Golden Retriever without the medium-to-large size. With that said, mini Goldens do not always take on the friendly, happy-go-lucky nature of purebred Goldens. Since they are crossbred, they can have attributes of other breeds. Purebred Black Golden Retrievers do not exist but can essentially be created by mixing any variation of a Golden with a black Labrador, Newfoundland, or other breeds. The coat, height, and weight of a black Golden will vary because it is actually a mixed breed. Since many Goldens are bred with Labradors, they would likely be of medium-to-large build, with males or females anywhere between 50 to 75 pounds. Some Goldens may even be mixed with Newfoundlands, which would result in a much larger dog, weighing 80 to pounds or more. Determining which type of Golden Retriever is best for you depends on your unique lifestyle. All kinds make a great family pet, but some have distinct characteristics that make them better suited for specific homes. Each Golden Retriever puppy has a different cost too, so make sure you know the golden retriever price before deciding. To know which Golden is ideal for your family, you can consult with a reputable breeder or trusted veterinarian! Find your new best friend from our list of top-quality Golden Retriever Puppies For Sale and from our high quality golden retriever breeders. Both can show moderate signs of being territorial, but more so in females due to their motherly instincts. What is the best color for Golden Retrievers? Standard gold has been shown to be more popular out of the colors of Golden Retrievers. Each color type has specific characteristics. A lighter shade tends to look more white in the light while the darker Golden Retrievers consist of more deep reds and blacks. The most obvious difference lies in the shades of color. Aside from color differences, the head of an English Golden retriever is broader with a square muzzle. Canadian Golden Retrievers are leaner and taller. What color is a Canadian Golden Retriever? All of them have their signature styles in either light, dark, or natural golden coat colors. He and his wife have four children and love spending time together, traveling lived oversees for 4 years , enjoying the outdoors and connecting Golden families. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. This was the first time we had a chance to chart puppies from birth until 8 weeks old. We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week. When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around weeks old. On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition. During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies , but both were already weeks old by the time we got them home. We actually own the Puppy Culture DVD and Workbook which includes charts, lists, worksheets and other great information for raising your litter. Keep your eyes and ears open and absorb it all like a sponge! Birth To 1 Week Old Guess what? This was the first litter we ever whelped!? We got a lot of advise, but we were largely on our own. Large Puppy Dish — great for feeding the puppies when they moved to solid food. Whelping Mats — we ordered 2 of these mats and washed them several times a day. Whelping Box — We have a homemade whelping box built by my father-in-law, but if we continue raising litters I plan on purchasing an EZWhelp Whelping Box. Our homemade box lasted three litters. We ended up purchasing the Magnabox which was hellu expensive but if you plan on raising multiple litters we highly recommend it. We recently put together a whelping checklist with all the supplies we gathered together to help out with our second litter of Golden Retriever puppies. Check out our whelping supplies checklist here. However, none were overly huge and none were extra small. No runts and no beasts. It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. After an upset stomach for the first week or so we realized our mistake, got Probiotics, and no more upset tummy. Week 2 — Pups eyes are opening starting to waddle. Week 3 — First bark! Yep, I heard the first real bark from one of the pups. First Bark? From children to adults to seniors our pups got to meet and greet many a visitor. Puppies are becoming active! They are finally starting to interact with each other in a playful manner! Every step in their journey seems monumental and the first signs of playing together is no different. Week 3 marked the time when puppies started looking and acting like puppies. A couple of other notes from week 3: Our Golden pups are becoming little fur balls as their coats grow in. Mom still cleans up most of their messes and keeps their whelping box fairly clean. Although from day 1 we regularly change out the whelping mat.
