Rosehall Shepherds has been carefully breeding large, old fashioned, straight back German Shepherds for over 20 years. These dogs are very healthy, intelligent, gentle, family friendly dogs. A number of Rosehall dogs have been trained as therapy dogs and are also in other areas of service but primarily family companion dogs. We hope that the following pictures will give you a little taste of how we live, work and play with these wonderful large German Shepherds. The 'big yard' is mostly open and covered with thick grass and is securely fenced. This is the yard where the adult German Shepherds can run free in small groups for longer periods of time requiring less supervision. Big dogs must have a securely fenced yard big enough for them to be able to break into a run so they can frolic in their exercise times. It's good for humans too. Emily takes time daily with each dog to visit, sometimes on the favorite stump in the 'big yard' which is an acre and a half safe and secure play place. These dogs our part of our family and prosper with the abundant attention given to them. The one-on-one time is essential as well as them having time as house dogs. Some of you would call it a pond. This area on the west side of Lake Alice is where much of our afternoon play time is done. We walk and play with them in small groups to keep everyone happy and well socialized. The dogs must have daily opportunities to interact, bond, and play with one another and their humans. These are truly family companion dogs! The creek that carries the overflow from Lake Alice doesn't run year round but when it does, there are a couple of small waterfalls that are very pleasant places to pause and listen to the water. Most of the dogs really like wading around and splashing in the falls. Just another of our several places that are good excuses to visit and pay attention to and play with our doggy friends. A ureterocoele is simply a swelling limited to the end of the ureter as it enters the bladder and can be associated with urine refluxing backward to the kidney causing enlargement due to a build-up of urine hydronephrosis. Ectopic ureters abnormal location of the ureters are a rare finding in dogs but are the most common congenital anomaly that causes urinary incontinence. While Marty was not displaying obvious pain, hydronephrosis can be a painful disease and he was sent home with gabapentin to help control any underlying pain. The severity of this condition meant that without surgery, Marty would soon succumb to end stage renal failure with a grave prognosis. It became clear from the diagnostic test results that Marty was a puppy with a big problem. This scan was performed a week later. Results confirmed bilateral extramural ectopic ureters. The extreme nature of the bilateral hydroureter and hydronephrosis was indicative of a chronic partial obstruction at the point where the ureters enter the bladder ureteral termination whilst the severe distension of the urinary bladder was thought to be due to compression of the bladder neck by the overlying ureters. Surgical treatment was scheduled a week later and consisted of abdominal surgery to perform neo-ureterostomy bilaterally. This procedure involves creating a new ureter opening where the distal portion of the ureters are relocated so that they enter the bladder in the correct anatomical location. Further surgery may be necessary, assuming that Marty does not progress into renal failure. This would involve placement of ureteral stent devices subcutaneous ureteral bypass device and a hydraulic urethral sphincter occlusion device to improve the incontinence by maintaining the flow of urine from the kidneys to the bladder when the ureter becomes obstructed. Marty, being a resilient little puppy, recovered well from major urinary tract surgery. An indwelling urinary catheter was placed to assess his urine flow. He appeared to be producing good urine from the kidneys with no evidence of further renal deterioration indicating that the neo-ureterostomy sites were flowing well. Once it was clear that Marty could urinate without the need for the urinary catheter, he was discharged 3 days post-surgery with pain relief, antibiotics and strict 2 week confinement — no easy task for a energetic puppy! One month following his ectopic ureter surgery, Marty has been making excellent progress at home. He is now able to urinate with no evidence of incontinence. A repeat abdominal ultrasound evaluation was performed which confirmed functioning ureters with some renal improvement but with continued dilation of the ureters bilaterally. While Marty is not out of the clear yet, with the help of his committed owners, he still has a long road to recovery that involves repeat ultrasound exams and bloodwork to assess his ongoing renal function. They claimed they were 12 weeks old. I took them to the vet immediately. They were vomiting up eggshells, hay, and brown material. They were not from the same litter. The vet estimated they were from 3 separate litters; one was an adult. The male puppies had two sets of testicles. The female was ectrodactyly. They were inbred. It cost double to fix each male because they had to clip the descended testicles and surgically remove the crypto set. More I reached out to Greenfield to notify them that she was fraudulently selling mutts as purebred against ACA also and Greenfield didn't ban them or even suspend them. There is nothing wrong with crossing a labrador and a poodle, per se. Provided the breeder has studied both breeds and chosen individuals of each who shows desirable traits for each breeds and understands what the possibilities are when combining them. Provided the breeder has a reason to produce this cross, and a genetic, health, temperament, or function goal driving the mating. Provided the breeder has done all the health checks relevant to a labrador, and all the health checks relevant to a poodle. Provided the breeder understands the science of genetics and the varying possibilities of how labrador genes interplay with poodle genes, especially recessive gene combinations. Provided the breeder understands assessment for temperament, in both the labrador and poodle, and whether the individual temperaments of the two parents make each a fit candidate for breeding. Provided the breeder has a well thought out and early development program for the puppies. Provided the breeder has sought potential buyers prior to the sale and vetted those buyers carefully, so that there is no chance any of the pups end up homeless. Provided the breeder truly understands all issues around coat allergies, seeks to educate buyers about what one might expect and what one cannot expect - and requires that any potential buyer who suffers from allergies be thoroughly tested with the individual puppy, and again once the dog is an adult. Then calling it a silly name and charging a premium of thousands. And selling those to idiots who buy because of the cute name, without an understanding of the dog within, and well, it must be quality because it was so expensive. Sound familiar, Switzerland? And that makes me very, very angry. At both the evil scum who abuse dogs for profit, and the clueless idiots who keep stoking the demand.
