I think he's about 7 years old, but I'm not sure. Jordan is a very special dog. Like a lot of dogs, Jordan was rescued from a very bad situation. He was extremely emaciated, he had no hair, covered in parasites, and extremely afraid of everything. He could barely walk when I got him. I have owned him for about 7 months now, and he has all his hair back too much, actually , has gained a lot of weight, is MUCH happier, but most importantly he is no longer afraid of people. With spending a ton of time with his socialization , training , and guidance , he is now a well-balanced dog. I don't exactly know what happened to him before me, but it doesn't matter anymore, anyway. Jordan did have all sorts of bad behaviors at first due to his neglect which included: excessive barking, digging, pulling, jumping, etc. Typical "bad dog" behavior. But with all the walks and adventures we go on he is not only well-balanced, but truly happy. I am his "Guardian Angel. He gives hugs and kisses. He is my suction-cup when we are outside together; he has to be by me always. I love it! He is happiest when the whole family is out in the backyard playing together. He is very much a part of our family, even stays inside now, after some time housetraining. He was never aggressive toward anything or anyone. He loves his "girlfriend"! My other Boxer Baby Girl who also is a rescue. She was rescued at 2 years old and is now a whopping 8 years old. A few months after losing another rescue of mine I was really considering adopting another dog because I needed some form of protection living in a rough neighborhood. One day, while I was sitting in my living room my neighbor knocked on my door, "Hey, there's a Boxer outside running around crazy, and the owner doesn't want it. OK, I will take a look! I saw that happy face and that wiggly butt, I was in love! I said yes! Little did I know what I was getting myself into. This dog was an absolute nightmare, lol! At first she barged out of every door, broke every collar, leash, chain, tie-out cable we bought! She was horrified of so many things. She had separation anxiety really bad, so bad she made herself bleed to get out. After a very long and bumpy road we finally accomplished what I dreamed: "the perfect dog. She is so well-behaved and excellent mannered. She even stops on a dime if I tell her to. She is my everything! I have taught her a lot, but not as much as she has taught me. She taught me patience, understanding, love, devotion, and so much more. She has won the hearts of everyone she has met AND has even made a dog lover out of the people who were "scared" of dogs or "hated" dogs. I take her everywhere with me. She loves her bath time, especially playing "torro" with the towel during drying time! She hugs me, and she gives me the gentlest kisses. She has no aggression toward anything or anyone, she loves everything! This dog is my entire world. She always rests her head on my lap and gives me those soulful puppy dog eyes. Unlike any other dogs I've ever had she and I communicate mentally or something. She and I just know what each other want. Before I got her she had never been out other than a quick potty break on a 4-foot lead. She also had been through a lot of owners. She's great inside now, though! With all that work she's perfect inside! I can leave a whole plate of food on the floor for hours while I'm not in the room and she won't touch it. No accidents, never chewed on anything, very quiet. She's my angel. Her favorite activity would be eating. She's loves food. This is a dog who has taught me to be strong, all good things are worth fighting for, never give up, and you never get the dog you want, always the dog you need. I cannot say I follow his methods, because I have been training my dogs this same way before I ever heard of him. I also train therapy dogs, and guide dogs. Not certified, or anything. I rescue dogs and train them to help those who don't want to go through the certified Therapy Dog Associations for such reasons as waiting lists. I thank god for Cesar, though, because he is one of the few proving that Pit Bulls can be rehabilitated, and showing the world everything they need to know to save their dog's life. My love for Baby Girl made me fall in love with Boxers period, which led me into rescuing another Boxer, so I guess in a way she's saved two lives. Just like me. She's been through a lot, and has come very far. Most important thing she didn't give up on me, either. I'm really just curious, nothing more. My friend's dog strikes me as having something other than Lab, but I just can't place it. Flat-coated retriever? I am a veterinary assistant. We live in Rockanje, close to Rotterdam, The Netherlands. When Krijn and I where living together for just one week we already knew: We wanted a dog. A French Bulldog to be precise. At the time we already have fallen in love with the breed. We decided to go looking for a dog that needed to be rehomed. On the French Bulldog Forum we found her: Quinta. A beautiful girl that was just 6 years old. It was a bitch with FCI pedigree, but she was bred in a totally different way than we have in mind. Quinta was always outside in a cage. When she had puppies we suspect in every heat she could go inside the house. Looking at her behavior, we could not help but noticing her previous owners were not always nice to her. We were totally in love with her, and thankfully, she was totally in love with us. She learned a lot with us and was taught that people could be trusted and nice. So delightful to see a dog becoming so relaxed en comforted. Quinta developed to be a great dog, and we were addicted! Addicted to the breed. So we decided to take a puppy, Tyke was his name. When we bought Tyke, we did not have any breeding plans. But Tyke grew to be an athletic and healthy French Bulldog. Every now and then we participated in dog shows. Because Tyke exercised a lot in agility we decided to x-ray him. It became clear that he also looked good on the inside! Then everything started. Tyke was asked to be bred. My interest in the breeding world became larger and larger, as did my hunger to knowledge. During my hunt for information it became clearer and clearer to me that the road many breeders have gone was nothing for us. Information was not shared, and often the motives to breed are not in favor of the health of the dogs, or the breed overall. In Memoriam: Quinta Arount that time Quinta got worse. The consequences of her uninterested breeders became more obvious. Quinta was 8 years old and she could not run for an extended period of time. Halfway through our daily long walk she needed help. She could not keep up anymore. Quinta had a bad spine, wich is a big problem within the French Bulldogs. Because of her many litters and maybe collateral calcium insufficiency the condition of her spine was even worsened. On the day of her ninth birthday she lost control over her back legs. With pain killers and excercising she could be with us for a few more weeks. After that she relapsed. We had to euthanise her. I am still very grateful for all that Quinta has given us. She made us fall in love with French Bulldogs. Because of her I have a lot more insight in the abnormalities that occur within the breed. Breeding with wrong motives and to not look out for the best interest of the dog. It is terrible to see your beloved dog like this. I hope no other dog has to feel the pain that she must have felt during her whole life. She has been the biggest motivation in my passion to help the breed get better and healthier. After a while we went for the lookout. We wanted a girl that fitted into our vision in breeding. Bloodlines were searched and all over the world I came in touch with people that know the breed very well. Over a year we searched intensively. And there she was: Bulls of Crown Enchilada , we call her Yara. While she grew up she showed everything that we were searching for! In the meantime I had learnt a lot extra about genetics and health testing, and the abnormalities that occur within the breed. When Yara became 16 months old she underwent a lot of extensive health tests. Wich tests we execute and why is explained on this page. Yara is nowhere near perfect, but a perfect dog still has to be born. Early our home got a wonderful addition in Lucy. We are open about possible abnormalities that our breeding dogs have, and also that of the male we use for breeding. Our kennel is born out of frustration. Frustration about the mysteries that are kept in breeders, about the overall health of the breed and even about the individual dogs. Frustration that one seems to find some abnormalities totally normal. Frustration because often there is no transparency about the diseases that are within the breed, or that they keep their mouth shut on purpose about it. We do not claim to know it all. The only thing we can do is promise that we will try our utmost best to breed healthy French Bulldogs. That is what we aspire. That is what we stand for. About Hawbucks And then we must look for a kennel name that fits our needs. What name do we want dogs bred by us to carry? By all means it had to be something tough and sturdy, because French Bulldogs are no types for an elegant name. They are rude and ignorant. By coincidence the name Hawbuck showed up somewhere. Hawbuck is typical French Bulldog! It is an old American word. An unmannerly lout; a clown. This is totally fitting for a French Bulldog! French Bulldogs are not supposed to have sweet elegant names, because they are nowhere near elegant dogs! For example: they walk your socks off when they see something they want to go to. Often tricky to keep motivated to work together. In every breed discription you will find that French Buldogs are true clowns. And they really are. Not a day goes by that they do not make me smile. Between 8 weeks and 10 months, your puppy has a ton of growing to do, and they change drastically from month to month. Each stage of growth requires specific attention, exercise, and diet, so there is much to learn and pay attention to these different growth stages. There may be behavioral challenges while your pup adjusts to their new life without their mother and siblings. This period of adjustment can sometimes lead to fearful and timid behavior, and your puppy will need as much attention and affection as possible. They should be eating 3—4 small meals a day at this stage. You can begin basic command, leash, and potty training at this point too. Although the schedule is not complete this is a critical period to begin socialization and making sure they are calm and friendly with other dogs, just make sure they are also vaccinated. We highly recommend making training a part of their daily activities at this age. Biting can be an issue at this stage too, as they will begin teething, and they will start exploring and chewing whatever they can find. Chew toys and consistent command reinforcement are both vital for avoiding this behavior. The good news is that your puppy will grow out of this habit at around 6 months old. Your lab should also be house-trained by this point, but there may still be the occasional accident. Remember to be gentle but firm when this happens, and your pooch will likely move through it swiftly. They will begin losing their baby teeth at this point, and biting and chewing may reach its peak. Firm but gentle commands, chew toys, and loads of patience are essential at this stage. Your puppy will be testing the limits and may start showing dominance, ignoring known commands, and asserting more independence. You can now drop their meals down to two meals per day, but be sure that they are not eating too quickly. Your puppy will start to closely resemble an adult at 6 months, but remember that mentally, they are still puppies and will need loads of direction and training. Females may enter their first heat at 6—7 months, so keep a careful watch for stray males. They will still display puppy tendencies and traits and have a ton of excitable energy, but they should be fairly obedient and well-trained by this stage. Be sure to give your Labrador plenty of exercise at this stage to help keep them from misbehavior. They will have reached their full height by now but may still gain weight and muscle mass in the coming months. They may still gain weight and muscle mass but much slower than during the past few months. They will still display puppy characteristics and even test boundaries, but all in all, they should be obedient and well-trained by now. They will have a ton of energy and still enjoy playtimes and loads of exercise. While they are at their full height at this age, some Labs may appear lanky and still have weight to fill out in the coming months. When Do Labradors Stop Growing? All dogs are unique, and the question of when they stop growing is largely dependent on the individual. Anecdotally, your Lab should have reached their full weight by 18 months and full height by 9—12 months. Most breeders agree that your Lab will stop growing at some point during their second year. Even so, any weight gain during their second year will be minimal, and they will have done the majority of their growth by their first birthday. Mentally, they are out of the puppyhood phase of testing boundaries and disobedience by their first year— if correctly trained. If you have been consistent in training thus far, your Lab should be friendly, obedient, and well-behaved from their first birthday and into adulthood. In males, neutering can sometimes result in a calmer, more relaxed dog, and this, in turn, will slow down his need for exercise and may result in weight gain. A study in showed that dogs neutered before 37 weeks may gain more weight, while dogs that had the procedure after 37 weeks had a slower growth trajectory. The difference was minimal, though, and there is no reason to assume that these procedures have much of an effect on growth rates in dogs. Dangers of Growing Too Quickly or Stunted Growth While some puppies may grow quicker or slower than the agreed-upon average, this is usually nothing to be concerned about due to the individual and unique nature of dogs. If your dog is from working or hunting stock, they may be smaller than average Labs and are usually lighter for work in the field. Black Lab Weight In theory there should be no difference in weight between Labradors of different colors. Black Labrador weight for an English black Lab will probably be at the higher end of the range, for an American black Lab it will likely be lower. Black Labs are frequently found in both these categories, but some Lab colors differ. For example the chocolates. Chocolate Lab Weight Chocolate Labs are more likely to be show bred than field bred. As a very rough guide, many Labrador puppies will weigh around a kilo for every week of their lives. So you would expect a ten week puppy to weigh something in the region of ten kilos or around twenty-two pounds. A twenty percent variation around this would be fairly normal. If your puppy falls outside this variation he may still be perfectly healthy, but if you are inexperienced, a check with the vet is a good way to put your mind at rest. Should I Weigh My Dog? You may need to weigh your dog if he needs medical treatment. Determining the appropriate dose of some drugs requires that we know the exact weight of the patient. But in this case your veterinarian will probably do it for you at their check-ups and assessments. The main reasons to weigh a dog are loss or gain. Trying to put weight on a very thin puppy?
