We tried to take as many pictures as possible so we could have a journal of our Golden Retriever puppy growth week by week. When raising guide and service dog puppies we usually bring home our puppies at around weeks old. On occasion we are allowed to see puppies before 8 weeks of age, but they need to stay with their mother and siblings during those important early weeks to get milk and antibodies from mama and learn how to interact properly with siblings, learning important behaviors like bite inhibition. During our days as a foster we raised two litters of puppies , but both were already weeks old by the time we got them home. We actually own the Puppy Culture DVD and Workbook which includes charts, lists, worksheets and other great information for raising your litter. It was my understanding that when the cord was chewed down to the base of the belly it was sometimes difficult to get it to stop bleeding. I took the hemostat and pinched the umbilical cord about 2 inches from the base of the pups belly then cut the cord rather than let Raven chew it off. I kept the hemostat on the cord for about 2 minutes to let it clout. The umbilical cord dries up quickly and then within a day or 2 it falls off. Raven was a good mama and took care of her poops. Puppy eyes and ears are closed at this stage and puppies army crawl around the whelping box looking for a teat to suckle. We did everything we could to make sure our pups stayed warm by adding a watt heat lamp to the whelping box and portable heating unit in the puppy room. As I mentioned Raven stayed in the whelping box most of week 1 and of course… the puppy piles! One thing I learned is if I had a puppy on my lap then do not let Raven lick those areas or be prepared for a little accident on your lap. While caring for Raven and her litter Raven was really blowing out her coat that first week, but as time went on it slowed down. I heard from other friends this is common and that Raven blew out her coat much less than other mama dogs. We got Probiotics for Raven before her first litter, but forgot to order them for her second litter. When I drove to Pa to pick up my puppy, the breeder wouldn't let me come to his home because it was Sunday and his religion wouldn't allow him to do business; I was told to pick up my puppy from his Uncle's house. Should have been a red flag, but the family was so excited to get her. I asked if he would take a picture of the puppy's parents on his phone and send it to me. Never got a picture. This was a birth defect. If the breeder was reputable he would have been aware. All this heart ache because of liars and scammers! Do not buy a puppy from this website. They are either sick or have bad skin conditions. The breeder refused to give our deposit back. He ended up having round worms, severe itching, acne, bumps on his skin, etc. Of course, my luck, these issues were within the 30 days and some after. I found out in October that he has hip dysplasia, which it is believed to be he had it when he was a couple of months old. This breeder really did me and my dog an injustice. He said he was healthy and is experienced with breeding Rottweilers. He should NOT be able to breed any more! If I could give negative stars I would. Horrible and so unfair to me and especially all of the dogs suffering because of negligence. He had is daughter less than 10 years old, approximately and a woman, that knew nothing about the puppies, give me information on the basic questions. I would NOT buy from this breeder. Please be careful if you do. Just appalling. If this is true, this is a violation of federal law 15 USC .This should be investigated. On several complaints with the BBB, their responses explicitly state they do not have records for these dogs. They have no way to prove their claim that these are only the best puppies. This is misleading and should be investigated. My pup had an umbilical hernia and the vet stated that he needed to get surgery to close it up. I immediately reached out to the breeder after his checkout to inform him and got no response. Reached out again 6months later after his second vet check and no response again. I then emailed Greenfield Puppies directly since our dog came with a 1 year health guarantee and no response from them either. I have sent them three emails with photos and still nothing.Why advertise that you offer a health guarantee when you completely ignore the customer? The boy had the diarrhea from day 1 and 3 days later the girl stopped eating. I called him and told him and he said to give them nutritional gel but that did nothing and I took them to the vet. They had Coccidia, which, is contagious. I called him told him as they still had other puppies which were probably infected too. I also said that since the puppies were not healthy when I got them that they owed me the vet bill. That was a month ago and still no reimbursement. I called him twice and no response. Greenfield advertises healthy puppies guaranteed. Obviously, that's a lie. I don't mind if I would have been reimbursed for the vet bill but, when they advertise healthy puppies they should stand by that. Two weeks ago Greenfield puppies offered to mediate my case with the Millers but I have heard nothing from them either. So I guess the healthy puppy guaranteed is mute. Don't buy from any of their breeders. They are puppy mills as I have found out. I will never buy from them again. I wish I would have figured that out earlier. I do love my puppies but I worry that they might have some hereditary problem down the road. I pray that they don't. The facility was very clean and comfortable. However, she is great with children and very patient with them. They have a lot of energy and would be a great fit for someone with an active lifestyle that has time to wear them out. Their size is perfect as well. They are big enough to be intimating as far as protection goes, and small enough to travel with and meet weight restriction for certain living situations. He was very hyper as a puppy and required a lot of exercise, as all boxers do. As he got older, he calmed down but when I wanted to play or go for a walk, he'd get up for me. They're extremely loyal and are great with kids once they have grown out of their main puppy stage. Even when they're old, they're like big babies. Not a lot of grooming is required other than their nails and face wrinkles along with other normal grooming requirements. I do not recommend getting a boxer if you won't give your companion a lot of attention and if they don't have enough room to run around. He lived 10 years and died of lung cancer. He was raised in a no smoking house and ate life abundance dog food his whole life. He was my best friend, loyal, sociable and very obedient. He was high energy until he died. He was confident and was not shy. Our guests were his guests. He was a blessing to our home. She was the most even tempered, kid friendly dog I have ever met. Even though she could be skittish, she never once nipped or was aggressive toward humans or other dogs, and play-fought with puppies. She was friendly toward every guest we ever had and loved to play with tennis balls. My mother bought Roxann after my father died. They are fantastic with children and very protective of their people. Sweet, loving personalities. Boxers are as good as it gets. We took her to the vet on 3 15 .She is perfect. Ruth and her husband have a friend that will drive your puppy to you. And believe me it was great. I will be looking for another boxer next year I will call them first. Other than. They love people and often wan t to greet everyone by jumping up on them. I've found this to be a hard thing to teach them not to do, but you just need to train them to sit before anyone can say hello. They were great with our two boys growing up and now great with our grandchiidren. Our other boxers lived to be between 11 and 12 and even though their life expectancy is not as long as smaller dogs this breed gives you so much love and big wet kisses I cant describe the joy. The only issue is that they are so loveable but so big they love to jump up on people and this is something that you need to teach them as puppies. I cant wait to go on Saturday to pick up our fourth boxer. I feel guilty getting one so soon after Baxter just passed on Saturday suddenly but our hearts have been ripped apart and I am sure that little Buck will help us heal faster. Goofy, personable, people pleaser so very easy to train as long as you establish dominance, awesome with kids and all kinds of animals. He is VERY energetic but loves his naps. He does require quite a bit of patience, especially in the beginning. He is completely harmless. Even though he is not exactly a small breed, he is convinced he is a lap dog. I never have to worry about guests or kids coming over or even coming up to him while on a walk. He loves all people, dogs as well. He doesn't do too well with separation. He can get bored easily, and with all of that energy make sure you take your boxers for walks and supply him with plenty of toys because he can get a bit destructive in the house if he isn't entertained enough. Although in the beginning it was a little tough, he is obedient and well trained now. I would recommend this breed to anyone with a little patience, and a lot of love to give. For a first-time buyer they might not be the best fit. I have had 3 Boxers and two of them did have cancer. Boxers are prone to cancer. But I did put them both through radiation and they both lived another 5 years cancer free! Even though they are prone to health issues and their longevity isn't what us Boxer lovers would want, their personality makes it all worth while and I wouldn't get any other breed! The puppy was bathed earlier that morning so had a clean coat for the ride home. They also gently asked if we were able to give puppy lots of exercise as the litter was allowed several hours of play a day in the field with their parents I assured them we live near a bike trail. More Both of puppy's parents were in a large pen hanging out- they looked well fed and had healthy coats and shiny alert eyes. We've now had the puppy for 8 weeks. She is a JOY. Everyone stranger who meets her and who claims to have known other lab puppies either owned or has friends with a lab say she is the calmest lab puppy they have ever met. Our puppy is exceptionally bright and learns most commands with very little repetition. Our trainer recommended we enroll her in good canine citizen program at 5 months instead of 6 months because she's picking up lessons so quickly. Aside from typical puppy teething issues and the occasional sit strikes during walks when she was home the first 3 weeks, she's mature beyond her years and all of that has virtually ended now that she's 22 weeks old. They claimed they were 12 weeks old. I took them to the vet immediately. They were vomiting up eggshells, hay, and brown material. They were not from the same litter. The vet estimated they were from 3 separate litters; one was an adult. The male puppies had two sets of testicles. The female was ectrodactyly. They were inbred. It cost double to fix each male because they had to clip the descended testicles and surgically remove the crypto set. The breeder Linda refuses to accept any responsibility that she sold me a mixed dog. She blames me for buying it without a DNA test first?! More I reached out to Greenfield to notify them that she was fraudulently selling mutts as purebred against ACA also and Greenfield didn't ban them or even suspend them. Greenfield allows them to continue scamming potential buyers. I have since learned that people get puppy mills dogs and split the profits with the mill owners to sell on sites like Greenfield Puppies. Greenfield is a cover for puppy mills! As soon as we got home, he had bloody diarrhea all over the floor. We thought it could just be from the stress of the car ride home, but took him to the vet and he tested positive for giardia. I informed the breeder and was ghosted. It is now October, the giardia is finally gone but now my puppy has c diff which is another horrible thing for him to be dealing with so young. This has been an extremely stressful time treating him and dealing with constant diarrhea, not to mention very expensive with so many vet visits, tests, and medications. He is also highly transactional, and the overall in-person experience seemed somewhat staged. Finally, he uses a relative to do the medical exam. Had him 2 days and he got sick and passed away. RIP Ozzy. He had Parvo which can be detected thru fecile test which breeder never did. Also found out someone else from this breeder got a sick pup and the vet bill just to get meds to help him were a few hundred dollars, please stay away, most of the dealers are Amish and I found out after they don't have to follow same rules of other breeders due to the religious beliefs. Today I left a message that our lawyer is getting involved. When I could not find satisfactory information regarding the breeders I started doing independent searches. I found information that several were cited as puppy mills and in violation of several humane treatment of animal violations. I then looked to report this to greenfield and they have no reporting mechanism in place. It seems they are only interested in money and sticking their head in the sand. Phantom merles are important to look out for when it comes to breeding. While some breeds have spontaneously developed the merle gene, merle poodles are not natural. This means that the gene has been introduced into the poodle pool by another breed of dog, making merle poodles not purebred even if they look and act like it. In order to get a merle poodle puppy, you must have a merle parent to breed with a regular poodle. It will never occur naturally. Then there are double merles, who show as MM. A double merle dog is a poodle who got double the dose of genetic mutation, meaning that both of its parents carried the merle gene. They are more than likely to have the tell-tale coat markings of a merle dog — or sometimes come out as completely white, but never phantom — along with several unsavory side effects. It is common for double merles to have birth defects: malformed ears or eyes, even missing ears or eyes is possible. Less extreme but still severe for any dog, double merles could be born blind or deaf. Breeding merle poodles is risky especially if a phantom merle has not been discovered for what it is. Breeding two confirmed merle dogs together is almost guaranteed to produce a double merle. As you can see, the odds of the offspring being MM are very high and the effects of a double merle disastrous. Breeding merle dogs of any breed is a tricky business. It needs to be carefully regulated due to some serious side effects. While not all mutations are bad, the merle one can be. Basically, breeders need to have their poodles genetically tested if they suspect that a dog carries the merle gene. Remember, it can be hidden like in phantom merles. If the dog carries a merle gene, it should not be bred with another merle visible or phantom. On its own, if a merle is matched with a dog who has been proven to have no merle gene whatsoever not even phantom! Because merle is a rather dominant gene, it is more than likely that the litter will have several merle puppies. As we mentioned, doubling the gene can cause double the problems. Without genetic testing, blind breeding should not be done. Poodles as a pure breed are at risk from several health problems. Most of which can be treated or avoided with proper breeding and owner care. Other orthopedic problems can occur more in toy and miniature poodles. They can also suffer from epilepsy and hair regrow issues like sebaceous adenitis. As long as breeders are responsible, poodles should lead long, healthy lives. As well, many that are not trained to Merles, can mistake a brindle with the Merle gene as not carrying Merle. If are breeding a Merle to any of these colors, you should genetically test them to ensure they do not carry for Merle and therefore, you will not have double Merle. There are many people out there that insist that Merle is not a naturally existing color in Poodles. Many of these people will claim that it is naturally occurring in many other breeds though, such as Australian Shepherd, Great Danes, and Dachshunds. There are several AKC Breeders that register them regularly. What I must note for all those people is the fact that there is also is no specific color for Parti, Sable, Brindle, or Phantom. So now the controversy is where did this gene come from and since nobody knows for sure we must look at our options. The Merle gene was introduced using another breed, many, many generations ago. If for instance, we go with this option, we would assume that it was introduced with either Great Danes, Australian Shepherds, or Dachshunds. There are some other breeds with Merles, but they are just as different as these breeds in coat type, size, structure, and temperament, so we will just work with these breeds for now. If these breeds were used to introduce the Merle gene, we can all visibly see the obvious difference in coat type, structure, size, temperament among other things. Poodles have two curly genes, do not carry for improper coat, and have too long hair genes, for a dog to get curly hair it needs one copy of the curl gene, but with only one copy you will not get as much curl as a dog with two copies, actually, it takes many generations to get that amount of curl back as there is natural variation within the gene and if you talk to Poodle breeders that show, they breed only dogs with thick full coats and it takes a long time to get these coats. You need two improper coat genes to get not facial furnishings and you need two copies of the long hair gene to get long hair. So, if you took any of the three breeds we are using as examples to infuse Merle into the poodle. Two of the breeds have short, straight hair with no furnishings Great Dane and Dachshund and one has long hair, but it is straight with no furnishings Australian Shepherd. So, if you crossed with the Great Dane or Dachshund you would end up with wire haired, short-haired dogs with some furnishings, these dogs would look nothing like a poodle at all, even crossed back to the poodle again, you still would have F1 Goldendoodle looking coats on the curlier sided puppies. You would need to cross them back at least generations to get an even remotely looking Poodle coat. Now, with the Aussie, they at least have a long coat, so their first-generation puppies coats would be a bit closer in resemblance to a poodle than the other crosses, but would still only be wavy coats and would need to be crossed back to the poodle at least generations to get Poodle looking coats. This is assuming that the Breeder that chose to infuse this other breed genetically tested the puppies to ensure the puppies with the right coat genetics were bred back to the poodle. The next thing to assess is structure, we can all agree that the poodle is built very differently from the Dachshund, Great Dane, and Australian Shepherd. It takes decades to change the entire structure of a dog, but with careful breeding, you can do it. But the dachshund and the Australian Shepherd are completely different in structure body-wise to the poodle, and, likewise, the Great Dane is also completely different in structure, particularly in the head structure. It would take many generations to change this structure when bred back to the poodle. Okay, so keeping all this in mind, it is possible that some AKC Breeder did infuse one of these breeds and genetically tested each generation, breeding them back to the poodle over generations to achieve a dog that looks like a poodle. They would have had to not only register each generation while hiding the offspring that would obviously not pass as a poodle because if they did not, but they would also be reported to AKC. They would need to keep careful consideration to the structure of each puppy and genetic tests and temperament so that these dogs would eventually show no sign of another breed in them, as the AKC registered Poodles that are out there now breed true to type. While I admit that this is possible, I also think it is highly unlikely and I would go as far as saying that if they did infuse another breed and it was that many generations back that it is unrecognizable in the current Poodles, as the current ones breed true to type in every way.Does it really matter? Also, before you say that someone just lied on their papers, I know of several breeders that have DNA's done many generations back too. The second option is that it has always occurred in the breed. There was a phase in which all multicolored poodles were thought to be flawed, due to a vast lack of knowledge and many misconceptions on people parts. During this time multi-colored poodles were not bred, and many were culled almost getting rid of those colors altogether. With merle being a gene that can easily be hidden by other genes such as White, Cream, Apricot, and Red, it could have stayed hidden by these genes for many generations, especially due to the fact that these colors were often only bred together, so Merle would have never shown up until people realized that there was nothing wrong genetically with multicolored poodles and started breeding them again, once these poodles were crossed with other colors the merle gene could have emerged then. The last option is that the Merle gene was a natural mutation in the Poodle, which is how it is believed to have occurred in other breeds that it is present in. They are beautiful and breed to the breed standard. I really feel when there are so many health and temperament issues in so many breeds, we should be focused on breeding healthier, better temperament, more structurally sound Poodles and not cause so much drama and conflict over a color that we cannot prove one way or another how it came to be in Poodles. This is referred to as paper hanging. Paper hanging is an issue for many reasons- the first being that someone lied and ethically that is wrong to do. Second, if you have someone that lied on a pedigree and someone unknowingly buys a puppy descended from that line who then wants to breed that dog, they have no idea what true health issues are behind their dog, which means they have no idea what issues their puppies could end up with. This kind of act causes issues for generations. Another issue with merle is, of course, how the genetics work themselves. That e gene will override merle, which is where phantom merle terminology comes into play. What that means is that you can have a dog that looks like a solid cream but is genetically a merle dog and that can cause big problems for that new owner. If the buyer wanted to breed that dog or had an oops litter with a merle dog, they just created double merles, which means they could produce some serious health issues. People will also say, "if it's bred back to a Poodle enough times it becomes a Poodle". The fact of the matter is, someone introduced a non-Poodle into that line, and those progeny are mixes.
