I have a 4 month old puppy called Charlie. He is lovely. Seems very healthy and bright and approaches everything in life with great enthusiasm. I have had a black Labrador before, many, many years ago, when I was a kid — and my mum did all the work and worrying. That Labrador was from a big farm in North Yorkshire and I guess he was from "working lines". I feed Charlie on Royal Canin kibble which is what the breeder used and he gets loads and loads of treats — at puppy class clicker training, for walking without pulling, for peeing and pooing outside. The first 8 month were amazing, but when the ninth month came she went a little crazy. She lives us more than anything and same with us but we had to place her in a different home. What in getting to is this breed will probably be your best friend though thick in thin but they are a lot of work too and need as much hours and room as you have, for them too. Very friendly and playful. Loves kids. Loyal and faithful but hates to be hugged. Smart too. They operate a small dairy farm on 70 acres where they and their five daughters are all involved with raising the puppies. The children are younger, and they love to play with the puppies, treating them like dolls and even playing dress up with them. The puppies are well socialized not only with people but also with other animals. Ben says the best part of raising puppies is when they make a great connection between their puppies and their new owners. Seeing people so happy when they leave with a loving puppy makes it a wonderful and worthwhile endeavor. All of the Smucker Family Farm dams were raised on the farm and have never had hip issues or any genetic anomalies. Years ago when they started with one Chocolate Lab, they really liked their loyalty and how great they were with the kids. Since, they have added Labradoodles as well. Ask about what health tests they perform before breeding the parents, as well as any health certificates and health records for the puppies. They perform well in dog sports and other high-intensity activities that require a lot of training and respond well to positive reinforcement techniques. These dogs also love to be around their family and love attention and affection. They require plenty of attention compared to other breeds. Portipoos tend to be extremely intelligent. There are many dog foods out there for active dogs, and these may work best for Portipoos. A high-quality commercial food is vital for their health.
