Read More About Our Australian Labradoodles and their origin This classic example of logical and planned crossbreeding was created in the country of Australia in the s. The goal of the Australian clubs is to create a new "breed" with the best attributes of the original breeds. The original objective was to produce assistance dogs that do not shed hair for people with allergies. Australians, on the other hand, have taken the Labradoodle a few steps further. In mid it was announced that the Australian Labradoodle was not just a Labrador x Poodle cross , but was a breed in its own right developed over many years with particular goals in mind. To accomplish these goals, further development was done with parent breed infusions added to the already blooming Labrador x Poodle cross lines. The developers of the breed sought out the best way in which to compliment the Australian Labradoodle breed, and to develop the authentic qualities that they find and love in these dogs. In the very first Australian Labradoodle Breed Standard was written which reflected these goals. The Australian Labradoodle currently consists of 6 different breeds in its origin. At Summer's Goldens, we focus on life-long family companions. While we carry many Champion bloodlines, we use careful genetic selection to lower the COI Coefficient Of Inbreeding of our dogs and improve the breed. Lower COI contributes to better long-term health and benefits golden retrievers as a whole. We don't breed just for today; we breed with the future in mind to have healthy, happy golden retrievers for decades to come. We follow the health-testing guidelines of the American Kennel Club and the Golden Retriever Club of America by examining our adult dogs' hips, elbows, eyes, and heart. We only want the finest goldens to become mothers and fathers. We also do genetic testing through Embark , one of the most reputable and thorough genetic companies. By pairing healthy, genetically diverse parents, we provide the best possible conditions for puppies to live long and healthy lives. We strive to cultivate friendly personality traits in our Golden Retriever Puppies for sale. High-quality socialization during the first two months of a puppy's life is one of the most critical components of its lifelong development. Socialization provides a strong foundation for emotionally healthy, well-adjusted adult dogs. This is easy to claim but hard to do. There simply is no replacement for quality time spent with puppies. We follow the lead of Dr. Carmen L. Battaglia and start with early neurological stimulation ENS when the puppies are just three days old. We continue thorough socialization until the puppies leave us. This includes exposing our puppies to a variety of different surfaces to walk on; human touch all over their bodies; temperature changes; different sounds like fireworks, doorbells, cats meowing, and car engines; children; baths and nail trims, and more. We want our puppies to be more than just physically healthy; we want them to be mentally and emotionally ready for their future families. German Shepherds are very gentle dogs and are much known for their protective traits. Unfortunately, last , there was a new adoption fee. Adopting a German Shepherd in New Jersey would now cost around dollars to dollars. These German Shepherds are provided with consistent medical care. Ever since the German Shepherd gets rescued, they will closely be monitored and have the privilege of being spayed and neutered. Care also includes all kinds of shots for dogs. Choosing a Good German Shepherd Rescue If you are trying to adopt a rescued German Shepherd from German Shepherd shelters, you might be confused about what you should consider. If you ask people to like your friends and family, they might have different opinions that confuse you. But there is not so much to consider. The fact that you chose to adopt a rescued German Shepherd rather than buying one is already one act of kindness. You might already know that there are so many rescued German Shepherds in the world and only a few German Shepherd shelters. If the German Shepherd comes at you with no hesitations and no aggressiveness, you would know that it was a good rescue. If the German Shepherd is warm and inviting on your first encounter, it is already a good rescue because there are no signs of trauma or aggression. How do I pick a good rescue German Shepherd? You might ask yourself what kind of German Shepherd you should adopt and rehome. You can look for outgoing dogs. You can tell that by observing their body language when you first meet. However, if you are also not down to unlimited patience, you can avoid a shy German Shepherd. These dogs can be a little bit of work because they are afraid and run away from you. If you are outgoing and are a very hands-on person, you might not enjoy your German Shepherd because of its shyness. Dogs can be trained and can also be flexible like some people are. If you love a challenge, you can pick any dog you want. Summary Adopting a German Shepherd is a difficult job since it entails several chores and criteria. However, as compared to breeders, German Shepherd shelters provide a more inexpensive way to enjoy the company of this lovely breed. There are a few German Shepherd rescues in New Jersey. While adoption differs from purchasing a puppy, you will still love a German Shepherd. Other States. Darya is a deep Rich black and Red that is very social with people and animals. Final Thoughts The choice to adopt a German Shepherd rather than purchase one as a puppy from a breeder is a noble choice. The highly sought-after German Shepherd is in fact one of the most euthanized, abandoned, and neglected dog breeds in the United States. So, choosing to adopt a German Shepherd dog from a rescue provides a better chance at life for these dogs which is quite Nobel. Also, adopting a German Shepherd dog is relatively less expensive than purchasing one from a breeder. If you reside in the state of New Jersey, and you are searching for a reputable and well-meaning German Shepherd rescue organization or charity to adopt your next furry companion, then you have come to the right page, as we do our bit to make your search a lot easier. This article provides a list of some very good canine rescue organizations in New Jersey that guarantees healthy German Shepherd dogs up for adoption. These dogs were rescued or saved from kill shelters and puppy mills scattered across the state. They each undergo thorough rehabilitation and are placed in foster homes ready for adoption. We have also done our best by compiling and displaying their contact information to help make your search a lot easier. So do read on till the end. They were founded in the year by Jim Dascoli with two main goals in mind, to help or rescue German Shepherds or German Shepherd mixes that have been abandoned or euthanized and found in kill shelters within the state of New Jersey and to provide long-lasting family homes for these rescued dogs to live in happily. The organization functions as a non-profit organization and it is located in Millburn, New Jersey. The Sedona Shepherd Sanctuary does not have a facility of its own, instead, they work with two boarding facilities and foster homes in which the dogs are kept and nurtured. Each dog goes through the process of rehabilitation either through physical and mental or behavioral evaluation done by a licensed vet. They work with many rescue organizations that are scattered across the states of New Jersey and even Pennsylvania to help keep these endangered dogs safe and secure. As a non-profit organization, Sedona Shepherd Sanctuary functions with the help of volunteers and partners. They are always in need of new foster homes, so if you do plan to support the cause, that is a viable option. You can also try adapting any of their German Shepherds that are listed on their website. In addition to that, they have a referral program that is ongoing in which owners can surrender their dogs so they can get a better home to grow in and be happy in. They also work with licensed professionals through a phoenix program to provide adequate medical care to all rescued dogs in need of it.

German Shepherd Breeding Age Male German Shepherds Male German Shepherds become fertile after six months of age but should not stud until they have reached sexual maturity. Although males can technically impregnate a female, they should not be allowed to mate until they are fully sexually developed, so at least one year old. Once an adult German Shepherd is sexually mature, he can mate at any time. If the dog is healthy, he may be able to keep his fertility and be sexually active for his lifetime. However, just because German Shepherds can reproduce and have puppies well into their senior years does not imply they should. German Shepherds enter their senior years around seven years of age, and as they get older, their fertility and ability to whelp healthy puppies diminish. The quality and amount of male sperm are affected by age. So although males could sire puppies at 9 or 10 years old, many breeders will check the sperm count monthly to check for quality. Furthermore, if their doggy partner consistently delivers smaller litters or the puppies are weak and unwell, a breeder may decide that the male dog is too old to sire puppies. Responsible breeders are patient and wait for the perfect German Shepherd breeding age. A female German Shepherd will have her first heat cycle around months old. This is when she can technically get pregnant, although you should never breed a female dog during her first heat cycle. Mating during the first season increases the chance of pregnancy complications, premature labor, and stillborn pups. Labor can become complicated and comes with risks, and older females can have difficulty producing milk. You should retire a female GSD from breeding around years old or after four or five litters. Like the UK Kennel Club, many breed associations have enforced an age limit of eight years for breeding female dogs, as found in their Assured Breeders Standard. However, this is for all breeds. German Shepherds, as a large breed, age faster. Understanding Female Heat Cycles When a female German Shepherd goes into heat, her body prepares itself for conception. Heat, breeding cycles, and periods are all terms that refer to the same thing. Although a German Shepherd stays in heat for around three to four weeks, her most fertile days begin days into the heat cycle. This heat cycle consists of four stages: proestrus, estrus, diestrus, and anestrus. This stage can last around days. She may even tuck in her tail to cover her vagina and keep males away. Estrus : This is the main phase in the GSD heat cycle when ovulation occurs. The female dog is now fertile and ready to mate, and she will follow her bodily instincts and accept a male. This stage lasts between days. The swelling of the vulva will go down. Estrogen levels are low, while progesterone levels slowly increase. The fertile window has now closed, and she will no longer accept males. Anestrus: This is the final stage of the heat cycle of your female German Shepherd and will last about four months. Most female German Shepherds will go into season twice a year. The ovarian activity of a female dog starts to decline in the fifth or sixth year of life. Waiting until the dam is physically and mentally mature enough to bear and raise a litter is essential, as is waiting until the sire is old enough. This allows any genetic or conformation issues to become apparent, making breeding a poor decision. But what are the health concerns if a German Shepherd conceives too early? Physical maturity. The dam must be physically mature to carry a healthy litter to term. If the dog becomes pregnant before she has fully grown herself, it will put extra strain on her body, and she may not be able to deliver her pups. Young dams may miscarry, have puppies with disabilities, or have stillborn pups. Mental maturity. Pregnancy and raising pups require maternal instincts and a mature mind. If the dam is too young to breed, she may not understand what to do and may reject her pups. However, most females over the age of 8 have a tough pregnancy and difficulty giving birth. Significant problems are common during labor, and a caesarian section may be required. Unfortunately, one or more stillborn puppies in a litter are pretty common in older dams. Older German Shepherds may also have trouble producing enough milk to nurse their puppies, who will die if not bottle-fed. Senior female dogs are also at risk of pyometra, a potentially fatal uterus infection. Due to all these risks and complications, most ethical breeders will retire their dams at around five or six years old. Pre-breeding Health Tests Both German Shepherd parents require proper care and conditioning to produce beautiful, healthy, strong puppies. Apart from good physical health, they also need to be in good mental condition. A mentally strong and happy female German Shepherd will make a better mother than one that is insecure or has an unstable temperament. Regular exercise and an excellent diet and nutrition are essential parts of conditioning before conception. Bitches should not be overweight and should have good muscle tone before mating. A month before breeding, the female German Shepherd should go through a pre-breeding examination by a vet. You need to check her for common breed-specific health problems, such as hip dysplasia and degenerative myelopathy. Vaccinations, flea, and worming treatments for both parents should be current. In the late s, Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, began searching for a working dog breed with all the essential qualities of this class. Horand was the first dog that von Stephanitz registered in his new breed club — The Society of German Shepherds. Beowulf went on to father more than 80 puppies. The wolf-like appearance of the German Shepherd has led many to argue that wolf crosses were also bred into this early gene pool. For the next 35 years, von Stephanitz strived to refine the breed standard of the German Shepherd and promote it as a fine specimen of working dogs. The sought-after qualities of this breed, such as its intelligence, strength, speed, stealth, agility, loyalty , and beauty, were molded during this time. Today, the German Shepherd is one of the most popular breeds used by police and military units worldwide. Currently, most breeders do not need a license or permit to breed dogs. However, some states require a permit when a breeder has a certain number of female dogs at the same time or crosses a particular number of litters in a year. The practice of dog breeding differs between business and commercial breeders. If you wish to become a commercial dog breeder, you will have to apply for a commercial license. Depending on the state you live in, you must follow certain laws and regulations and meet specific requirements to obtain a permit. To ensure the legality of your dog breeding business, you must follow certain rules such as the ability to have dogs on your property, the number of dogs you can have at one time, and registering your breeding stock. You must also obtain a business permit — it will serve as legal proof that your business follows all the laws and regulations of your state. You must register puppies with a reputed kennel club such as the American Kennel Club. This will allow you to sell your puppies and assure future owners of their health. Decide whether you want to breed a show dog or a working dog. Schutzhund-titled dogs belong to the pedigree of a working dog. Meanwhile, the pedigree of a show dog usually has more American Kennel Club winners. You also need to look at other factors besides championship titles. Learn about their history and pedigree through their vet records and other documents. They should have been regularly screened for hereditary health concerns, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, and irritable bowel disease to name only a few. In line breeding, breeders must ensure that the elbows and hips of several generations of pups are healthy. Many dog breeders prefer line-breeding as it provides better assurance that all puppies in a litter look alike and have a similar temperament and health to their parents. If you have any doubts or questions before you purchase a German Shepherd pup, talk to breed experts and consider their input. Most breeders wish to begin as soon as these dogs enter their heat cycle for the first time. But a responsible breeder should know that breeding German Shepherds too early can be dangerous for their health. The first heat cycle of a female German Shepherd usually occurs at nine months of age, but they can go into heat as early as six months old. However, at this age, a female German Shepherd still has the mind and habits of a puppy. It lacks the instincts and maturity to nurture a litter successfully. And, more importantly, its body is not quite fully developed to bear the stress of pregnancy and lactation. Ethical breeders start breeding a female dog at two to three years of age. By then, its body and mind will be able to carry and care for healthy litter. Breeding often stops after a female German Shepherd turns eight. Older female dogs release lower-quality eggs, and there is a greater risk of stillborn puppies. The sperm of male dogs also deteriorates with age. Regular check-ups will ensure good health of a male dog so it can continue to stud into its tenth year. Responsible breeders do not use male German shepherds as stud dogs until they have reached sexual maturity. A stud dog must also conform to the breed standard before it can be used to breed German shepherd dogs. When to Breed German Shepherds? Even after a German shepherd dog reaches sexual maturity, a responsible breeder will not use it for breeding until it undergoes the required tests. This practice leads to healthy litters. This should be done at two years or older to screen for elbow and hip dysplasia. Preliminary evaluations can also be done for dogs over four months to less than two years old. If the dog is suffering from or a carrier of a genetic disease or hereditary health issue, it should be treated and removed from the breeding pool. The average age at which a reputable breeder will breed German shepherd dogs is about two years. By this time, the dog should have undergone the necessary health clearances and can be certified healthy and free of genetic disorders. Note that the American Kennel Club does not register puppies from male dogs that were under seven months old or female dogs under eight months of age when they were bred. Once a female dog is ready for breeding, it must be examined thoroughly by a vet at least one month before breeding. It should be dewormed, updated on shots, and tested for parasites. It should also undergo a brucellosis test. German Shepherd Breeding A female dog enters its heat cycle every six to seven months; on average, it lasts about three weeks. In the first phase of the heat cycle, called proestrus, a female dog may mark with urine more than usual. You should observe visible swelling and a pinkish discharge. Male dogs may show interest, but female dogs will not allow them to mount. This stage lasts for one week. The second stage estrus also lasts for about a week. The discharge will become a straw color, which marks the fertile stage when the female dog is more willing and may flirt and play. It will then lift its tail out of the way and allow a stud dog to mount. During this stage, it is best to allow the dogs to mate every other day. To register the ensuing litter of puppies produced by artificial insemination, you will need DNA certification. In the last stage of the cycle, known as diestrus, there is progesterone dominance, and the female dog will no longer be interested in the stud dog. This is when you should stop breeding dogs until the next heat cycle. Most animals stop secreting progesterone when they are not pregnant. This poses a challenge when trying to find out if a dog is pregnant or not. Diagnosing pregnancy in dogs can be done in three ways: palpation, ultrasound, and X-ray. Palpation can be done 23 to 30 days after ovulation. Pregnancy can be difficult to determine in overweight or very muscled dogs. An ultrasound can be done from the 21st day after ovulation. X-rays, after the 50th day of ovulation, can help determine the number of fetuses — the heads and spines of the puppies can be counted accurately. These diagnostic methods must only be performed by qualified vets. It is important to avoid an incorrect diagnosis or even damage to the embryos. Dog pregnancies last around 63 days. Give your dog a healthy and nutritious diet, ideal for canine pregnancy. This ensures that the dog and pups have all the nutrients they need to remain healthy. You can determine when a dog will give birth by taking its temperature. For that, you need to insert a lubricated thermometer into its bum. This temperature drop means the dog will go into labor in the next 24 hours. Early Puppy Care If there are no complications after whelping, the brand-new litter should be kept warm and comfortable. You can maintain the ideal temperature using a heating pad controlled by a thermostat or an insulated heating lamp. This milk contains essential antibodies that protect newborn puppies from diseases. The mother dog may not eat much during the first few days as it is too busy caring for its puppies. It will keep them warm, stimulate them to urinate and defecate, and clean up their waste. Monitor the mother dog for complications after birth, such as eclampsia low calcium levels and a retained puppy or placenta. Once the puppies are four weeks old, you can wean them gradually from milk and introduce them to foods. You can easily find puppy mush and gruel recipes online that help with healthy weaning. Once the puppies are familiar with eating kibble, feed them high-quality dog food that is easily digestible and suitable for growing puppies. This is important as this large breed is prone to digestive issues. They must also be kept lean and active from a young age. Weigh the puppies regularly to track their growth and groom them regularly. Additionally, provide them with sufficient socialization and training to ensure a good temperament. Selling a Puppy German Shepherd puppies should not be sold until they are at least eight weeks old. During this period, you can interview prospective dog owners to ensure that your pups will go to good, caring homes. Responsible breeders do not resort to misleading advertising tactics or sell their puppies to puppy mills, pet stores, or wholesale dealers. Keep in contact with the new dog owners in case they have any concerns or questions about their new pup. You should also be prepared to take the puppy back if the need arises. Is Breeding an Expensive Process? Breeding can be quite expensive, with many expenses involved in breeding pairs and new litters alike. This is why the most successful and long-running dog breeders are very passionate about the breed and are not out to make money. Then there are many more pre-breeding tests, along with artificial insemination costs, or stud fees. If a pregnant dog requires a C-section or there are birth complications, breeding expenses increase significantly. Breeders also pay registration fees and purchase puppy mush, regular puppy food, vaccinations, and deworming. Conclusion Breeding German Shepherds is an incredibly challenging but rewarding job. Breeders have a thorough knowledge, good ethics, and consistent professionalism. Whelping healthy litters that stand out as fine specimens of this large breed and are loved by dog owners make the job well worth it! German Shepherd breeding is a very challenging experience, but it can also be a rewarding one. When done properly it will take months if not years of being organized and diligent planning before the actual breeding takes place. German Shepherd Breeding Specific Information The first thing potential dog breeders should do before undertaking the challenge is to educate themselves on the German Shepherd breed. The kind of information to look for includes things like: What age does the Dam have to be before breeding can start Are there any standards that must be met What health concerns should be addressed How to choose the right male partner for breeding Those are just some examples of what needs to be known before getting started. As surprising as it may sound, the answers can change across breeds. Foster a Healthy Environment One of the keys to successful German Shepherd breeding is that your Dam is as healthy as can be. Is your German Shepherd eating a quality diet? Are you keeping up with veterinary health checks and vaccinations? Are they getting enough exercise? A high-quality diet and daily exercise are crucial to ensure she is in good condition to whelp.

Some of My Favorite Products For Dog Owners Labradoodle Collar Or Harness Some people just go to the local pet store, and pick the first equipment they spot, not giving much consideration into if they should really get a harness or a collar, but there are actually quite a lot of differences between the two. Purpose of a Harness And a Collar Both a harness and a collar serve the same purpose: when combined with a leash, they allow you to control your dog, and make it impossible for him to escape. Depending on the dog and dog-walkers temperament, there will be quite great forces pulling on the leash, harness, and collar. And that is exactly the most important detail when choosing between a harness and a collar. A study done by Anders Hallgren , a famous Swedish dog psychologist, found that there was a clear connection between neck problems and how you handle a collar. If you yank the leash, or if the dog is a heavy puller, there is a very high risk that the dog will develop neck problems. Since then, there has been a larger focus on numerous other issues that might occur on a dog that is a heavy puller, or if the owner yanks too hard on the leash when walking their dog with a collar. When you pull on the leash, the force is directly applied to the neck where you can find important organs such as the thyroid gland, larynx, trachea, and blood vessels. With a collar, the dog owner has a larger ability to impact the dog, but the cost is an added risk of injuring the dog. The latest studies have shown that the long-term effects of this lead to chronic inflammation of the spine and the thyroid gland. Some are better suited for puppies, and others are better for a dog which pulls a lot. There are 4 types of harness: Step-in harness: tightened around the body in the front in the back. Y-harness: has a focused pull on the chest of the dog. Pulling harness: used for allowing the dog to pull things. Anti-pull harness: a training device to help with proper behavior. Most dog owners will purchase a Y-harness, as they are a great fit on most dogs, and at the same time is a great harness to use for walking every single day. Which Harness Should You Get For A Labradoodle The first thing you should do before ultimately deciding on a specific harness, is go to a pet store and test all of the different products. This will allow you to see how it fits your specific dog, how your dog pulls with it, and how much control you feel you have. Some dog owners even experience their dogs start walking a lot more disciplined just by using a harness instead of a collar, which might be due to the dog no longer actively trying to get away from the undesirable pressure from a collar. But if you still prefer using a collar, I would advise that you at least get a collar that is both with and firm, without a choking mechanism. The collar should cover atleast two cervical vertebra in case the dog will suddenly start pulling. But remember, never yank the leash with a lot of power. Instead you should train it to walk while the leash is loosened, and teach it to come when called, instead of having to pull constantly. Labradoodle Collar or Harness Conclusion As stated, I would highly recommended that you use both a collar and a harness for your Labradoodle. But you should only use the collar for their ID-tag, and the harness is where you then attach the leash before going anywhere. Dog Food: Every dog needs to eat correctly, and finding the best food for your dog can be challenging, as the market is absolutely flooded with products. Due to their nature as retrieving dogs with very high energy levels, a Labradoodle requires lots of both physical and mental exercise. Labradoodles are one of the larger breeds of dogs. And as with any bigger dog, when they pull on their leash — you should be ready to hold on. If your dog is really unlucky, this can even lead to damage to its throat. When looking for the perfect harness, the main things to look for are one that fits well, is as comfortable as possible, and can help reduce the pulling behavior from your dog when training or walking with it. And not only will this be very uncomfortable and hurt your dog, but it can also result in increasing the pulling behavior as they will try and do anything they can to get away from the cause of the pain. There is a wide range of options available, from standard body-fitted versions like the Embark to all-around products like the Ruffwear. But in the end, whichever you choose to go for will very much depend on how much you are willing to spend, and which design you prefer. Each harness comes with its own pros and cons which need is something you should consider before making your final decision. Final notes As you probably know as a doodle-owner, they are very adventurous dogs who love jumping in the water or going on large adventures, so pick a harness that will definitely stay on them no matter the situation. You should also keep in mind that Labradoodles grow very fast and will quickly become too large for a lot of harnesses if you choose to get one when your dog is a puppy. You could perhaps consider test-driving a few of the cheaper options before investing in the one you really want when your Labradoodle is fully grown. But as always, do what you think is the best for your dog in terms of wear-ability, comfort, and, most importantly, safety. We hope you found our list of the best Labradoodle harness helpful. OneTigris Tactical Training Molle Vest Dog Harness Popular Types of Labradoodle Harnesses You are probably quite familiar with the unique challenges owning a Labradoodle presents, but you may not realize that there are different kinds of harnesses to help ease those challenges. Here we will outline some of the popular types of harnesses to complement your pup! A harness specifically designed to prevent pulling will help calm that habit, usually with a chest strap or ring that makes pulling uncomfortable for your pup. Anti-chewing harnesses — This breed has a tendency to get a little mouthy, and training devices are a popular object of desire for heavy chewers. A durable material without any obvious weak points will keep a Labradoodle from destroying their harness, despite those powerful Lab jaws. Tactical harnesses — Originally, Labradoodles were bred to be service dogs. Hiking harnesses — These dogs love a good adventure, so a high quality hiking harness is a great thing to have on hand. These harnesses are sturdier and more durable than most, intended to keep your dog both comfortable and obedient during long walks. If more than one of these types sounds like it might be right for your dog, take some time to find a harness that is a combination of multiple types as you will see, there are lots of them out there. Here is a quick overview of the materials most commonly used for Labradoodle harnesses. Nylon — Nylon is a versatile artificial material perfect for Labradoodle harnesses because it is nice and strong for persistent pullers. Most commonly, Nylon comprises the straps of a harness. Polyester — Another strong synthetic material, Polyester is an obvious choice for Labradoodle harnesses, though it tends to be a little more rigid than Nylon in the beginning. Mesh — Generally made out of Polyester or Nylon, Mesh adds a degree of breathability to harnesses that cover a greater portion of the body, like the chest and belly. This is especially important for Labradoodles who maintain their long, coarse coats. Cotton — Though not the most common harness material for big dogs, cotton is a good choice for Labradoodles who experience some of the sensitive skin issues common in poodles, and who are not big pullers since this fabric is not as strong. Cotton is softer and can be more comfortable than some of its artificial counterparts. Neoprene — This rubber-like synthetic material is soft and malleable, which is why it is generally used as padding in the chest or back for Labradoodle harnesses. This makes wearing the harness for a longer period of time more comfortable, though it can contribute to some heat issues. Metal hardware — Given that Labradoodles can pack on so much muscle, it is best to find a harness metal buckles, rings, and adjustable slides. Durable, sturdy straps — Both for the sake of standing up to pulling pressure and possible chewing, high quality straps are important for Labradoodles. Look for well-made, tightly woven Nylon to best serve your needs. Comfortable padding — Because Labradoodles are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, you should take every precaution to make sure you find a harness that helps distribute some of the pressure that would ordinarily settle on their joints. Breathable material — All that fur means Labradoodles get hot, and in order to reduce the risk of your pup overheating, finding a harness with an open design or that features a breathable material like mesh is a good idea. Our Picks for the Best Harness for a Labradoodle By now you are up to speed on the most common types of Labradoodle harnesses and their materials, as well as what features you should be on the lookout for. Type of Harness You likely noticed a few different harness types on this list, but do you know which type would be best for your pup? But if your pet is calm on walks, this could fit your needs. A padded harness offers more comfort, as it prevents the harness from digging into the skin. If your pup has anxiety, it might prefer a vest type of harness. This harness fits snugly, is padded, and offers a bit of restriction, which can ease anxiety. That same restriction may turn other canines off this kind of harness, though. Harness Size Once you know the harness you want, your next focus should be getting the correct size. You can also use this handle to make it easier to pick your dog up when needed. Reflective Harnesses Do you often walk your dog in the early morning or twilight hours? This ensures your dog can easily be seen no matter how much light there is, which keeps it and you safer. Some fabrics may be more breathable or softer on the skin than others, while some might be too scratchy or chafe too much. Price Harnesses come in a wide range of prices, so you should find one that fits your budget. And because many harnesses tend to have the same sort of features, you can shop around to find the most affordable one that fits your needs. The same food everyday will limit nutrition Imagine eating rancid fat, corn, and chicken drumsticks every day. Only the fruit is edible, so always remove the peel before feeding. Orange, another occasional snack You can give some oranges to your Frenchie once you remove the peel, the pitch, and the seeds. Oranges are high in vitamin C, which is just as healthy for dogs as for humans. Vitamin C helps the detoxification process of the body by flushing the toxins from the body. Oranges are high in natural sugar, so be careful with the amount, especially if your dog is obese or has high blood sugar. Pear, to promote healthy blood cells Similar to apples, dogs can consume pears freely once you remove the seeds and core. Pears are high in many beneficial vitamins, like vitamin A, C, and K, and contain lots of healthy minerals, copper, and fiber. This combination of vitamins in pears promotes healthy blood cells and reduces the risk of stroke. Strawberries, to slow down aging Strawberries are high in fiber, low in calories, and are full of antioxidants. You can give fresh strawberries to your dog without strict limits, but avoid canned strawberries as it contains lots of added sugar! So it might seem like a cute and funny idea to play fetch with a grape, but that could be a very dangerous game. Raisins Raisins are old grapes, says the joke. Passion Fruit Although passion fruit is yummy, its small seeds are harmful to dogs when eaten in large amounts. Tomatoes Many of us use tomatoes in the kitchen in many forms. But you should know that it contains a toxin called solanine which is dangerous for dogs when consumed in large amounts. The green parts of the plant contain even more solanine, therefore if you have a vegetable garden with tomatoes, make sure to keep your dog away. Are you maybe looking for your second fur baby? Tango Wool Labradoodles is located in the hinterlands of Western Massachusetts in the heart of the beautiful Berkshire mountains, close to the borders of New York, Connecticut, and Vermont, where I have lived with my two daughters for over 38 years. Animals have always been one of my greatest loves and I feel blessed to have been part of the dog world for most of my life. My work with dogs eventually led me to become a hobby breeder, raising English Labradors of the highest caliber, all from champion lines and bred for the best possible health and temperament. It was a wonderful venture, and now I am applying all that I have learned to breeding what I believe are some of the healthiest, happiest, and most beautiful Labradoodles anywhere. My interest in the breed was sparked when I heard of their allergy-friendly qualities a few years ago, at a time when my own grandson was having a hard time dealing with his allergies. Thus began my quest to acquire the best Labradoodle I could find. I wanted one that could measure up to the same standards as my Labradors, with thoroughly health-tested parents and grandparents and a gentle, loving, and trainable temperament. After a year of doing my homework I bought a gorgeous Labradoodle from a breeder who I thought had incredible dogs, and introduced her into my home. We were thrilled.I put my labs into guardian homes and only had my Labradoodle at home. .I was sold on Labradoodles! No sneezing! Not only was my grandson not allergic, the dog herself was amazingly smart, kind, gentle and athletic. We could play all day and when it was time to come home and chill out she could switch gears effortlessly. I continued my experiment and had every test done on her required by the Goldendoodle-Labradoodle Premium Breeders List of which we are now a proud member , and found she passed every tests with flying colors, in fact, with some of the best hip scores Tufts University had ever seen. That piece of advice convinced me to follow the path I've been on ever since, and resulted in the birth of Tango Wool Labradoodles. My dogs live in the house with me or outside in our beautiful fenced-in backyard, using the kennel actually a mini-apartment inside the main house only occasionally if I need to be away for the day.
