The City of Lawton said when someone violates the city's BAT -- or breeding, advertising, transfer -- permit regulations, they confiscate the pets and issue a fine. The city said the animals then become property of the city and the owners cannot get the animals back. People who have lost their pets to this code say it is flawed. Tuesday night, the Lawton City Council looked at rewriting the code, so the people could have their pets returned. Some pet owners just wish it would have come sooner. One couple confronted the city about how they fell victim to the flawed code. Lori and Dalas Anderson said the dogs were their property and they didn't know the permit was required. They are shocked that there is no provision that gives them a second chance. They tried to get reimbursed for the puppies taken. Full-bread Boxer puppies were the dogs taken from the Anderson family when they were trying to sell them at Atwoods in September. They said it like I had been abusing them or was neglecting them and they had had reports and I had to come get them, I was so mad they could take my dogs and not give them back," said Lori Anderson. We have people coming into us quite often saying, I bought this animal at Walmart, do you know who the owner is can you help me find the owner. While willing, he questioned the reason, I told him I read that we can teach our dogs to ring a bell to let us know they needed to go out for the bathroom. He had a good laugh about that and was in total disbelief. Fast forward to two months later and now his favorite story is that not only did the pups get trained but now he himself is trained to let them out when they ring that darn bell! Standard Poodles are also elegant, energetic athletes who move with a light, springy gait. They excel in advanced obedience competition, where retrieving and jumping skills are required. In agility obstacle course competitions, they fly over, under and through the obstacles with a strength and grace that is breathtaking to watch. Although they are not an aggressive breed, most Standard Poodles make great watchdogs with protective instincts. When properly socialized as puppies, they have an attitude towards people that varies from friendly to politely reserved.
