They are known to be a great breed for novice owners, but loved by experienced pet owners as well, as they are fairly easy to groom and get along well with children and other dogs. Highly intelligent, they are usually easy to train and have a high energy level that requires regular exercise. They are typically larger dogs that do not adapt well to apartment style living but would instead prefer to have a larger area to play, indoors or outdoors. This breed does not shed much which can make them great dogs for owners with allergies, but this requires them to be groomed regularly. Goldendoodles have a high sensitivity level but are generally friendly around strangers. They are gentle dogs that are highly social and not great as guard dogs or watch dogs but have done well in roles such as therapy dogs or other service dogs. Daily brushing is recommended to remove tangles and prevent mats. Bathing is occasional and can often be relegated to the dog groomer that is recommended you visit every weeks. Weekly ear checks with careful cleanings as needed help prevent ear infections. Scissors Hot glue gun Paint your wood box and let dry. Give it another coat. Once that is dry, coat your valentine box with Mod Podge and let dry. This is optional, but I think a perfect Mod Podge formula for this is the Sparkle. It will be the perfect bling for the holiday! Cut the pug head out of the foam based on the colors in the pattern. Place the foam pieces on a piece of thicker paper, foam, or even a cereal box. Glue or hot glue the pieces down. Add the wiggly eyes with hot glue as well — plus the nose and tongue. Once your pug face is complete, cut out the head and glue it to the front of the box, right below the clasp leaving the top unglued. The clasp should be able to operate behind the head. Cut out one large hot for the top of the box — and several smaller hearts of various sizes to add to the rest of the box. Then glue the rest of the hearts on the box — and add little accents to the hearts with the Sharpie. Let dry before using. Kids can place the box on their desk and let the Valentines fill it up! Unlike other years, this year we procrastinated making a Valentine card box and pulled off a night-before-Valentine's Day miracle. My daughter couldn't decide what she wanted, and we accidentally threw out all of our boxes a few nights before. Then, the heavens opened up and we had, once again - a corn dog box to work with! As you've seen from our other Valentine boxes, the corn dog box is apparently our destined go-to for Valentine's Day. Ours measured about 4 inches wide and 2. Use the utility knife and carefully cut out the mouth shape. Wrap the box like you would a regular present, but keep the seams on the back and the sides so they won't show on the front. Use clear tape, and try to keep all the edges as smooth as you can. Feel for the hole of the mouth, then carefully cut an "X" from the corners of the mouth. Fold the paper inside and tape it down on the inside of the box. In case you didn't know, you can upload your own. If you are also using a corn dog box, the image size shouldn't need to be adjusted at all. Don't have a cutter? No problem! You can totally cut out the puppy face by hand or even paint it on!! Cut the design out of black, pink and red cardstock and attach to the box with a glue stick, or my a quick-drying glue like Aleene's Tacky Glue. For a more realistic-looking tongue, glue the circled edge down and fold the other end into the mouth and tape it down on the inside. If you are like us, you'll know that everything can always use a bit more sparkle! We didn't have enough time since we procrastinated , but you can definitely spray your Valentine box with some glitter spray or Glitter Mod Podge and let it dry completely. When I was a kid, I remember covering an empty oatmeal container with pink construction paper and gluing on red construction paper hearts. Now kids come to school with elaborate creations that would make Pinterest proud if it were capable of feelings. When she found a cute little puppy box I thought it would be pretty simple to create. Then we spent a Sunday afternoon crafting our puppy. It ended up being a fun bonding experience. Yes, there were some frustrating moments as you would expect when working with a pre-schooler. But all in all, it went well and I think it will be a fun memory for her. We made a puppy collar of ribbon and used glittery stickers to spell out my daughters name: White fake fur was the perfect thing for making this little doggie! Purple and mint green tulle was turned into a fluffy tutu, just perfect for the girly little pup. We used ribbon to make a leash and jazzed it up with stick on crystals: Sooooo much hot glue was involved in this project! The dogs face was made with little craft eyes, white felt for the snout, black felt for the nose, and a pink felt tongue. It turned out better than I thought it would.

But have you ever wondered exactly why GSDs are so popular? Are they cuddly and affectionate dogs? German Shepherds can absolutely be loving and affectionate dogs that are down for a good cuddle. But this depends on the individual dog and how well they were socialized as puppies, along with a few other factors. A Word on Cuddling The word cuddling is defined as holding someone close for comfort, affection, or warmth. So, the best kind of cuddling with German Shepherds would be letting them come to you. They are highly intelligent, courageous, and confident dogs that are famous for being police and guard dogs. However, while GSDs do make excellent security and military dogs, they also make amazing family dogs. Above all else, German Shepherds are loyal to those whom they love. This also means being exceptionally protective of their families, and German Shepherds tend to provide constant companionship. They will stick to you like glue. The Affectionate German Shepherd German Shepherds are social dogs with their families, although they are known to be somewhat aloof with strangers. They prefer to spend as much time with their families as possible and thrive on your love and affection. They are loving and gentle with their loved ones, including children, and are willing to put their lives on the line to protect their families. Common signs that your GSD loves you include: Keeps prolonged eye contact: Your GSD engaging in comfortable eye contact for several seconds is a sign of trust. Has relaxed body language: When dogs expose their bellies and are just generally relaxed in your presence, this is also a sign of trust and love. Even a wagging tail when you come back into a room that you just momentarily left is a good indication of a loving relationship. Takes your personal things: If your dog seems to always take your things, like shoes, clothing, and even socks, this might be due to your scent being attached to these items. Follows you everywhere: GSDs enjoy companionship and can show their affection by following you around as you walk around your household. For one, they will sometimes lean against you, and GSDs can lean quite heavily, which is a physical action that shows that they want to be near you. This might also include placing their paw or head on you. They might try to crawl into your lap, which might not seem that cuddly, given their size, but they are definitely seeking attention and affection. Some GSDs will also show their love by covering you with kisses and seeking belly rubs and ear scratches. They might also sleep with you in your bed , which is a great way to cuddle with your dog. While some of these methods might not always be considered a cuddle, they are still physical ways that your GSD is demonstrating affection. Protective Nature Since these are working dogs, they take their jobs quite seriously, which can mean protecting the home and family. Socialization This is a common reason that a GSD might not be affectionate. GSDs or any dog, really that were not properly socialized while puppies are less likely to seek out affection and cuddles. As puppies, they should have the opportunity to interact with as many people, pets, and places as possible. Their upbringing plays a key role in their temperament as adults. It will take a great deal of your energy, time, and patience to build up trust and form a strong bond with your dog. Health Issue If your GSD was cuddly but has suddenly stopped, it could be a medical issue or possibly an injury. If you suspect that your GSD is sick or injured, you should consult your vet as soon as possible. While your dog starts to heal, just be sure to respect their need for quiet and alone time. There are a few methods that you can use to encourage your GSD to be more affectionate and possibly cuddlier. Scolding or hitting your dog is not the right method that you should be using, as this will make your dog possibly more fearful or even hostile toward you. Use Positive Reinforcement You should be using positive reinforcement instead of punishment. Reward your dog with treats and praise for good behavior, and consider offering plenty of affection too. They might be showing you non-physical signs of their love, as those might be what they are most comfortable doing. The most essential thing to remember is that as long as you take great care of your German Shepherd and respect the times when they need to be left alone, they will protect and love you unreservedly for the rest of their lives. You could be too rough, while your husband is gentle. Try to take a video of how you play. Then take note of the differences in how you and your husband approach your pet. Do you hug your dog too much? Dogs are built to run and explore. Hugging them is like controlling their actions or confining them. This could hurt. To put it simply, your German Shepherd is just not that into you. You showered them with attention. But nothing works. Bonus: Your German Shepherd uses another love language But wait. It seems like all your efforts are not lost in vain. Do they bring you their toys? Or maybe keep their eye on you all the time? Here are some other ways your dog can show their love for you: By following you around. By responding to your voice. Constant wagging of their tail. Carrying your socks or shoes around. Coming quickly whenever you call them. Staying close to you or somewhere they can see you. Your dog may not prefer physical contact, but they surely love you. Observe and try to understand their love language. We connect to others through touch. And dogs want to be touched. When we pet our dogs, our feelings of depression and grief decrease. This is done by massaging your pet in circular motions all over their body. Massaging your pet can be a good bonding activity between you and your German Shepherd. It is also a good way to train your dog to get used to being held. If they wince if you touch a certain part of the body, that part could be sore. Take them to the vet immediately for a check-up. But with the correct way of training, you could encourage them to cuddle with you. Do not give them treats to make them come back after they leave you. This will give them the impression that they will be rewarded if they go away. Instead, reward them when they initiate a cuddle. Or while you are still holding them. Encourage physical touch. Instead of giving them a cookie for their good behavior, reward them with belly rubs. You can also make your pet more comfortable with your touch by feeding them with your hand. Be careful, though. If your German shepherd is not used to this, they could accidentally bite your hand. If your dog is sick, the vet could provide medications and therapies to relieve them of any pain. Or even better, they would give you your most awaited thing in the world. A cuddle! Below, I will mention a number of reasons that it might be happening and the signs to look for. This would be a lot more likely if you adopted your German Shepherd from a shelter. However, it could also be the case that the person you bought it from did not give it much attention as a puppy. This would also be a lot more likely if your German Shepherd has always not wanted to cuddle. If it stopped letting you cuddle it suddenly then it could be the case that someone it lives with currently has been mistreating it. However, there are some other possible causes of a sudden lack of wanting to cuddle that will be mentioned below. Illness or injury The reason that your German Shepherd has not been wanting to cuddle could be that it is ill or injured. This would be more likely if it stopped letting you cuddle it suddenly or if something recently happened that might have caused it to be ill or injured. In this case, if you think that illness or injury could be the cause then the best option for you would be to take it to a vet. Fear Fear can cause German Shepherds to be less likely to let you hug them. There are many things that could cause a German Shepherd to be fearful but some examples could include: A certain person, that it does not like, being around Another dog, that it does not like, being around Fireworks, sirens or thunderstorms Being in a new location Having been mistreated by someone or something recently If your German Shepherd used to let you cuddle it but it suddenly stopped then it could be the case that it is frightened of something. It would help to consider what happened recently that might cause it to feel that way. It could also be the case that it finds it intimidating when you try to hug it.
