One question that many Doodle owners have is, what is the best Goldendoodle shampoo? After all, dog shampoo is all made the same, right? But, all shampoo is not the same. If you research some of the largest shampoo brands, you will also find countless lawsuits to follow. Today we will talk about what to look for in your dog shampoo and a few recommendations. What Makes A Shampoo Good? When choosing a shampoo for your Goldendoodle, you will want to choose one with quality ingredients. Goldendoodles have sensitive skin and can be more prone to things like hot spots and allergies. Some owners have to sample a few brands to see which brands work best for their dogs. But ideally, dog shampoos should avoid harsh ingredients and be nourishing. But, some chemicals will do your Goldendoodle more harm than good. The artificial fragrance has many origins. Dogs that suffer from skin allergies and sensitivities are more likely to react to these because of their unknown source. Should you notice that your dog seems to break out a lot after a bath, you might want to check your shampoo labels. If artificial fragrance is high on the list, you might want to discontinue use. Formaldehyde We all know all the harmful side effects of formaldehyde. But many pet companies still add it to their products under a new name. Look for labels like: Phenol-Formaldehyde Methylaldehyde Quaternium-7 or Oxomethane Formalin Diazolidinyl urea These ingredients are labeled as a preservative, so they are lower on the list. They can cause skin irritations and estrogen-induced cancer. It is best to avoid these if at all possible. These ingredients are known to cause irritation, redness, and blisters in severe cases. These cheap preservers might not cause an issue at first, but they build-up on the skin over time and create a reaction. Isopropyl Alcohol 40 This ingredient is a quick evaporating ingredient meant to speed up drying time. But, in the evaporating process, it is also drying out the hair shaft from all moisture. Your Goldendoodle will feel dry and might develop dandruff. Sulfates Sulfates are harsh cleaning agents. These cleaners are great for dogs that are very dirty and greasy, but they are also harmful. They can create dry, damaged hair and dandruff as well. If your dog suffers from any skin allergies, sulfates will make them even worse. Using a sulfate-free shampoo is best for most Goldendoodles. Best Goldendoodle Shampoo Now that we have talked about ingredients in your shampoo, we can now make some great recommendations. Below are the top dog shampoos that will solve every problem that you could run into. This shampoo is for conditioning, as well as deep cleaning. It contains a sulfate derived from coconut oil that is more nourishing than synthetic sulfates. It also has a pleasant smell and cleaner ingredients than most on the market. We also love that this shampoo is very concentrated, so a little can go a long way. Owners rave that this shampoo smells amazing and relieves the itchiest of skin. It is also fantastic at preventing itchy skin and dandruff thanks to the calming effects of oatmeal and aloe. Your dog will thank you for this shampoo. This shampoo has extra conditioning powers and yet is powerful enough to cut through any grime that your dog has gotten into. It smells incredible and will make your Doodle pleasant to be around again. You can use this to freshen up every week or as a spot cleaner. TropiClean Whitening Shampoo Sometimes white Doodles need a little extra help getting their fur bright white. For this, we recommend TropiClean Whitening Shampoo. Not only does it smell delicious, but it also has naturally derived ingredients. The unique formula will help your white dog look her best again. This formula is extra gentle for the pup, who is still learning about grooming himself. And since this is a 2-in-1 shampoo, it will leave your puppy feeling soft and easily brushed. They seem impossible to get rid of, and you might feel bad about all the chemicals you are using on and around your Doodle. This shampoo uses essential oils to kill fleas, larvae, and eggs. This shampoo is highly effective, and you will generally see results after the first wash. But, a word of caution with this shampoo. It is very drying to the skin, so you will need to follow it with an excellent conditioner to prevent dry skin and dandruff. Earthbath Oatmeal and Aloe Conditioner An even greater conditioner should follow the best Goldendoodle shampoo. This conditioner will help detangle your Doodle and leave their hair silky. It can also be a great way to treat and prevent dandruff and itchy skin. We also love the natural ingredients of the company and the fantastic smell. This answer to this question much depends on your lifestyle and dog. Doodles are known to have very delicate skin. They are not washed as often as other dogs because they naturally produce oils to protect their skin. Overwashing your Doodle could lead to dull, lifeless hair and even balding patches. But by no means are you not to wash your dog if they are filthy. If your Goldendoodle is very active, they may need more baths than others. Most groomers will tell you to bathe your dog as needed. And only you will know when it is time that your Goldendoodle absolutely needs a bath. Your nose will lead the way here! The general rule of thumb for Doodles is to bathe them at least every three months. Most of the shampoos on this list are very gentle. So if your dog rolls in the mud every week, you should be fine washing each time. Should you notice that your dog is getting dry skin, that is the sign that you are washing them too much. Now You Know Now you know all there is to know about the best Goldendoodle shampoo. Which brand is your favorite, and why? Below is a Pinterest friendly photo…. Sharing is caring! Can you use human shampoo on your dog? According to my research, there are several reasons why dog shampoo is best for dogs and human shampoo is best left for the humans. Dogs have different pH balances and fewer layers of skin cells. So dogs have more sensitive skin than humans. That means human shampoo is a no-go for dogs. I checked out several sources to confirm this. Reasons to avoid using human shampoos on dogs According to PreventiveVet. How I found the best shampoo for our Goldendoodle pack While attending the Westminster dog show, I stopped at the Chris Christensen booth. This brand had been on my radar and seeing it used widely among breeds during the competitions reassured me that it was a quality product. So I also checked in with Goldendoodle grooming Facebook communities. Like many brands, Chris Christensen offers a variety of products with different features. After some research, I landed on Ice on Ice for its detangling properties. Initially, I questioned the price. Would it be worth it? However, if I was going to groom and bathe my Goldendoodles myself, I decided I needed the best tools for the job. And my Goldendoodles deserved to feel like it was a day at the spa. If you have a really smelly Goldendoodle, This shampoo might be for you. It is a strong and effective option for a particularly smelly Goldendoodle. Not all puppies and dogs love bathtime. Here are a few little tips and tricks that owners and groomers find help make Goldendoodles enjoy bath time more. Use warm water to wash your Goldendooodle. This seems a little like a no-brainer but it pays to be kind and use warm water when bathing your dog. A little touch of luxury can come about by warming a towel for your dog. You can use the dryer for a few minutes or even a towel warmer. If you need to groom or brush your Goldendoodle, do this before bathing the dog. It is much more difficult to get out knots and tangles once the dog is wet — even while drying. Make life more comfortable for your Goldendoodle by getting this out of the way before the water is switched on. Use shampoos that are soothing to the skin for your dog. Pick one of the shamoos from our list or alternatively test your dog shampoo on your own skin before applying it to the puppy Remember to pat the shampoo onto the Goldendoodle rather than rubbing it. The gentler you are, the less tangles later. Less tangles also means a happier dog when it comes to brushing time. Consider switching to showering your Goldendoodle instead. This of course only works in large showers or open plan bathrooms. Be careful as wet tiles are slippery for both you and the dog. If you live somewhere warm enough you can let your Goldendoodle dry with a simple towel dry and time. You will need to brush once the coat is completely dry. Either way be careful when using a towel not to tangle the Groodle fur. White Goldendoodles: Whitening Shampoos: These are specially formulated to brighten and enhance white and light-colored coats. They can help eliminate yellowing and stains, giving the fur a pure, white appearance. Mild Shampoos: Light-coated dogs can sometimes have more sensitive skin. Moisturizing and Conditioning: White coats can sometimes appear dull. Using a moisturizing or conditioning shampoo can bring out the shine and ensure that the coat is soft and healthy. Stain Removal: White coats can show dirt, tear, and saliva stains more prominently. Consider a tear-stain remover or specialized cleaners for specific areas, along with regular grooming to keep the coat looking its best. Black Goldendoodles: Color-Enhancing Shampoos: Just as there are whitening shampoos for white dogs, there are color-enhancing or brightening shampoos for dark and black-coated dogs. These shampoos can deepen the black hue and make the coat shine. Selecting a shampoo with natural oils or a formula that promotes shine will help maintain that glossy appearance. Protection from Fading: The sun can sometimes lighten or change the hue of a black coat. While no shampoo can provide full sun protection, some are formulated to reduce the fading effect of sunlight on the fur. With their thick curls, Goldendoodles are prone to picking up all sorts of dirt, debris, and pests like fleas and ticks. Few shampoos are made with a specific breed in mind. Many focus on fur type or shedding. This can make it more difficult to find a brand suitable for your Goldendoodle. To make sure you choose the right one, here are a few suggestions. Unfortunately, while frequent baths can leave dogs smelling fresher for longer, they can also strip the natural oils from their fur. Due to this, Goldendoodles are prone to dry skin. Hypoallergenic shampoos are also less likely to contain allergens that your dog can react to. All these baths could dry out their skin, leaving itchy redness and unpleasant cracks. Sensitive skin shampoos are good to help promote healing, but on their own, they might not be good enough to combat dried flakiness. Coconut oil is another good one. When it comes to sensitive skin, for both our dogs and ourselves, these ingredients can soothe, nourish, and moisturize damaged skin. While a big fluffy coat can look adorable, it also requires more care. You will need a brush large enough to handle the bulk, and the strength of their shampoo matters too. Sensitive skin shampoos are designed to be gentle. For your Goldendoodle, you want to find an option that is strong enough to clean their fur and moisturize their skin without causing further damage. It might get misplaced, shoved into the back of a cupboard, or forgotten about, including when you need it. For this reason, it can be easy to reach for the human shampoo sitting in your shower. Unfortunately, humans and dogs have different requirements when it comes to shampoo. Some of the ingredients could cause allergic reactions. For most dog breeds, bathing should be limited to when they need it. If your Goldendoodle tends to stay relatively clean, you might not have to bathe them often at all, especially if you groom them regularly. Too many baths in a short period can irritate their sensitive skin. Even if you have a great moisturizing shampoo, your Goldendoodle will still suffer from dry flakiness. While it can be recommended to seek professional help for particular haircuts, daily brushing sessions can be handled at home. We hope that these reviews helped you to find the best shampoo for your sensitive Goldendoodle. Ollie, originally from the USA, holds his master's degree in wildlife biology and moved to Australia to pursue his career and passion but has found a new love for working online and writing about animals of all types. As a result, due to those differences, it is not feasible to create a universal product for Goldendoodles. Nevertheless, all Goldendoodles come with sensitive skin, which is why we gave priority to shampoos that are gentle on the skin while still giving a thorough cleanse. However, your dog is an individual, meaning that it has unique needs. Moreover, you might also have preferences. To help you make an informed choice, consider the following factors when looking for the best shampoo for your Goldendoodle: 1. Health Problems Some dog shampoos are designed to help alleviate certain skin and coat conditions. This issue is prevalent during summer or in areas with hot and humid climates. Dander is what typically contains the allergens that most people are allergic to. While most Goldendoodles are allergy-friendly, you should consider using a dander control shampoo if your pet triggers allergic reactions. Therefore, make sure that the shampoo you use is meant for sensitive skin. These shampoos typically come with ingredients such as aloe and oatmeal to help soothe the skin. Additionally, they do not contain dye, soap, parabens, and other skin irritants. Additionally, skin and coat health shampoos are also effective at counteracting the damaging effects of low-quality shampoos. Itch and Redness Treatment Shampoos Dogs with sensitive skins, such as Goldendoodles, sometimes suffer from itchiness and redness due to their curly coats trapping dirt, debris, fleas, mites, and ticks. Itch and redness treatment shampoos help remove dirt and parasites, in addition to soothing and calming the irritated skin. Calming Shampoos If your dog has a nervous disposition, a calming shampoo can go a long way in helping them to relax. These shampoos contain calming ingredients such as lavender and tea tree oil. Calming shampoos are also a great option for dogs that are afraid of baths. Purpose Dog shampoos can also be categorized according to function. Therefore, depending on your needs, you might want to consider the following: Deodorizing Shampoos If your pup has a propensity for picking up less than appealing smells, a deodorizing shampoo can do them a lot of good. The fragrance in these shampoos helps to neutralize odor, leaving your dog smelling wonderful. However, they cannot be used by themselves, as they serve no other purpose other than to neutralize odors. Therefore, make sure that a deodorizing shampoo states that it is either natural or organic before picking it. Waterless shampoos also come in handy when looking to clean your dog in a hurry. Chemicals Dog shampoos contain several chemicals for various purposes. Some of the chemicals to watch out for include: Synthetic or artificial colors and fragrances Sulfate Preservatives such as formaldehyde and paraben Unfortunately, some manufacturers do not indicate all the ingredients in their formula, including the chemicals used. This is why you are advised to only use certified organic products from trusted brands. Conclusion With the numerous dog shampoo products on the market today, it can be difficult to identify the best one for your Goldendoodle. It also does not help that most dog shampoos are meant to be universal, bypassing the fact that different dogs have different needs. Fortunately, we were able to identify a few shampoos that are a good fit for Goldendoodles. You might have to experiment with a few of these to find one that suits your pooch best. However, you can never go wrong with Hepper Colloidal Oatmeal Pet Shampoo owing to its exceptional quality. Medicated Shampoos Unfortunately, some dogs can suffer from coat problems that are just a little more severe than some dandruff or a bit of irritation. For instance, parasites such as ticks and fleas can be a real problem, as can bacterial and fungal skin imbalances. These can all lead to dry, red, inflamed, and itchy skin that will drive your pal around the bend. If symptoms are on the less severe side, you can simply pick up a medicated shampoo designed to deal with the specific problem your pup is having given that you know just what that is. This is where 2-in-1 shampoo plus conditioners shine. No muss, no fuss. Many canine coat products these days are designed just like this. However, if your pup has particularly thick, long, or curly hair, then you may find that these blends simply do not offer enough conditioning action to keep tangles at bay. Goldendoodles, like most other Doodles, can inherit one of three types of coat: A thick, straight often double coat A curly, coarse single coat Or a wavy mix of the two The latter is by far the most common, especially in first-generation dogs. When it comes to the thick, straight double coat from the Golden Retriever side of the equation , the biggest issue you will likely be dealing with is shedding. However, if your pup has the low-shed Poodle curly coat, knots, tangles, and matting are going to have you pulling your own hair out unless you learn how to deal with them! Look for products that mention hydration, nourishing, and silk proteins. Finally, that gorgeous teddy bear-like wavy coat…this is likely to be the lowest maintenance of the three. You should be able to get by with a regular 2-in-1 shampoo plus conditioner. Just pay special attention to whether your pal requires any help with other issues like odor. That wet dog smell is common in breeds with longer hair. Opt for a shampoo that does more than mask foul odors with strong perfumes. The 2-in-1 formula conditions as it cleans, and the coconut, aloe vera, chamomile, and tea tree oil soothe dry, itchy skin. Moreover, the added wheat protein extract acts as a natural deodorizing agent, while the lavender and mint are great for soothing an anxious bath time dog.

So, what can you do to help your pup's ears stand? Genetics matter. Just as having puppies from hip-scored parents will lower the chances of your puppy getting hip dysplasia, or just as having puppies from parents who were show champions increases your chances of your puppy becoming a show champion, buying a puppy from parents with in-standard shape, placement, and size that stand strongly increases the chances that your puppy will have similar ears. No matter what you do, you can't cheat DNA. If this is a major concern for you, and it is for some people, cover your bases by starting with a healthy puppy with health-tested parents with in-standard ears. Unfortunately, I'm aware that by the time this question is asked, the most important factor, genetics, is no longer under the questionee's control because they've already chosen a puppy. So on to tips that will help with a current puppy and not the next! I know you want to play with them, don't you? Those cute little satellite dishes! But don't do it. The more you flex and bend them, the harder time they have firming up as the pup gets older. It's okay to pet a puppy. You should pet your puppy but use backward strokes in the way that their ears lie backward naturally. Playing with them isn't going to help. Ears don't have bones in them. The same goes for dogs. Ears are made of cartilage. Supplementing calcium isn't going to strengthen cartilage. Calcium isn't a bad thing for a growing puppy, but if you feed a commercial diet, all of the calcium your dog needs is already in the diet. Giving a bunch of calcium tablets won't help, but it can give your puppy hypercalcemia, which can damage organs such as the kidneys and heart. Find a high-quality diet, and you'll never have to give extra calcium to your puppy or dog. Dogs have 18 muscles in each ear. Each of these muscles controls the possible ways a dog can decide to move their ears. While muscles alone won't help cartilage harden, strong jaw and ear muscles can help with ear set placement. I've seen people worry about the ears of 3-month-old puppies. It's perfectly normal for a pup's ears not to come up until after teething. Teething is usually completed at months. Everything is fine. Use the time before, during, and slightly after teething to make sure your pup is eating the healthiest diet you can provide, is being vaccinated according to your veterinarian's wishes, and make sure your puppy is parasite-free. Little critters sucking blood and nutrients away from your puppy's body will take a toll on its ears.Focus on the things that matter most and hope for the best. Your puppy has finished teething. It's months old. They're still not up. Well, now is the time to be interested in your puppy's ears. At this point, you have four choices. They're just ears. And yes, German Shepherds have really cool ears. It's surprising how few dog breeds have erect ears. Something about the domestication process causes floppy ears in a lot of animals, such as lop-eared rabbits, most dog breeds, some breeds of cattle, some breeds of pigs, etc. One of the first things a person would say to describe a German Shepherd to someone who had never seen one would be to mention their erect ears. But in the end, they're just ears. Your dog will be fine, and it's no big deal if your dog's ears don't stand. Personally, I would contact the breeder and let them know that the pairing they're using is producing weak ears. But if I adopted, I wouldn't have anyone to call to warn. So, I would go on my merry way hoping that whoever bred my dog and let it end up in a shelter never, ever, ever breeds another litter of dogs again. There is a method where you tape up your dog's ears to support them to help them stand. This must be done in the month window. Any sooner is too soon, and 7 months is most likely too late. Your vet likely knows how to do it, but be prepared to get judged by people who have no familiarity with ear taping. A lot of people see tape and think you cropped your pup's ears like it's commonly done on some mastiff breeds and Dobermans. In that procedure, some of the ear is removed during a surgical procedure under anesthesia, and the ear is shaped and taped. You have a very high chance of someone thinking that's what you've done to your German Shepherd puppy, even though no vet in their right mind would do it, even if you asked them, including veterinarians who specialize in doing crop surgeries in show dogs. Again, remember, taping a German Shepherd's ears involves no pain whatsoever. No cutting. No surgery. Nothing more than maybe slight confusion as to why you're taping a structure to their head. The same confusion a puppy would have if they had any bandage or new collar on them for the first time. Even after reading this and it being explained, someone will still say it's abuse to tape a puppy's ears up. It happens every time. And then they'll go put a harness or collar and leash on a puppy, both of which caused very similar confusion before their puppy got used to it. Moral of the story: If this is what you want to do, don't let anyone make you feel like a bad person for using the same skin-safe medical tape we've all had on our skin for one scrape, cut, burn, or another. Same principle as taping, only you're using skin-safe adhesive and gluing foam cutouts to the inside of the ear. It works, but honestly, no one really uses this method anymore. It's harder for the dog to get off, but it's messy. It's still an option, though. In my opinion, if you're winning shows by using surgical enhancements, you're being dishonest with the judges, unfair to the other competitors, and deceitful with your puppy buyers if you ever breed the dog. Of these four options, throwing in the towel is the option with the least amount of hassle. Taping can work and causes no pain, except to you as you re-tape again and again when your puppy removes the tape. The last two options aren't practical in my book, but I said we'd talk about how to get a puppy's ears to stand, not exclude things that work because I personally don't find the ethics behind surgery appealing or find other methods outdated. These are the dos and don'ts, the maybes, and the why-nots of German Shepherd puppy ears standing. Remember to relax. If your puppy is still teething or under months, it's normal for the ears to be down, or to have been up and gone back down during teething, as is having one ear up and the other down or any combination of the aforementioned. Please leave a like, share, and tag everyone you know who has ever asked about the ears of German Shepherd puppies. We have finally condensed everything people want to know into one article! Thank you again. Bright eyes, strong profiles, and of course, those perky, attentive ears! When you first bring your German Shepherd puppy home, its ears will probably be floppy and droopy — at times, those ears may try to make a stand, only to fall back down again. What gives!? As your German Shepherd grows and gets the right nutrition among other things , the cartilage gets stronger and stronger. And voila — straight, pointy German Shepherd ears! But is it really that simple? Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, no. German Shepherd puppy ears can be unpredictable! The key is to be patient and give those ears time to develop on their own before stepping in. Those ears should perk back up after teething is over. If you want to learn more about the timing of teething and what to look for, check out this article on German Shepherd puppy teething. When went to visit my German Shepherd, Allie pictured above at 7 weeks old , her ears were floppy and undeniably precious. I brought Allie home at 8 weeks, and those ears still had their ups and downs, but by 10 weeks old, her ears were up permanently. So, the key is to catch it in time. This flip-floppy stage is completely normal. Genetics can also come into play when some breeders try to breed specifically for German Shepherds with larger ears. As a result, those big, oversized, heavy ears may be too much to stand up. If pointy, perky ears are important to you, then choose your breeder and puppy carefully. Make sure to check out the parents — how do their ears look? Any significant trauma to the ears during this time can cause permanent damage — which may also cause droopy ears. Try to have everyone keep their hands off those adorable ears as much as possible. Parasites: Yuck. Puppies need chew toys, as it exercises their jaw and their head and neck muscles. Those muscles are important for perky puppy ears. So, let your puppy chew, chew, and chew on the right things of course. If you need some ideas for durable dog toys that can withstand those chomping jaws, then check out this article for my picks of the best tough German Shepherd chew toys. Stick to a high-quality, natural diet instead. Cottage cheese and yogurt both have plenty of calcium without overdoing it , and chicken feet are a natural source of glucosamine, which helps strengthen cartilage. Give those ears time to develop on their own before you resort to taping. At the end of the article are some sources that go over common methods of taping. Note: There are several options that you can use for this — there are even foam dog ear forms. Thin, white surgical tape that tears easily. A 2-inch wide tape works well, and you can also get this at Walmart, CVS, or somewhere similar. Note: Do NOT use duct tape or electrical tape — these will do way more harm than good! An unsharpened pencil or popsicle stick. Adhesive — either skin bond adhesive or eyelash glue are good choices. Give those ears plenty of time to develop and get stronger before taking action. How old was your German Shepherd puppy when its ears finally stood up? Let me know below! I get a lot of emails about taping German Shepherd puppy ears. The majority of these emails come from people who are jumping the gun and worrying too much. By that, I mean their pups are 3 or 4 months old and they are starting to panic because their puppy's ears are not standing. I tell these people that they need patience, they need to wait until their pup has finished teething. I caution these people not to jump the gun and tape the dog's ears too early or in the wrong way. I know people who have screwed their dog's ears up for life by doing this. I have had puppy customers who go ballistic on me and panic. So I issue a word of caution here. With that said, the other side of the spectrum of taping ears is something that many people do not take seriously until it's too late. When ears are taped at 7 and 8 months, there is very little chance of it working. This is an unfortunate fact of life. German Shepherd puppy ears can come up between 8 weeks and 6 months. If they are not up when the dog is through teething this varies from dog to dog but in general between 16 weeks and 20 weeks of age , I tell my puppy customers to get very interested in their ears. While it's not time to panic, it is time to sit up and take notice. The first thing to do is make sure that your puppy is in good health. This means no intestinal parasites. Take a stool sample to your vet to have it analyzed. It's also important to make sure the pup is getting good quality food. We feed and recommend a raw diet but if you do feed a commercial diet, I strongly recommend researching all the options available and feeding the highest-quality food you can afford. View our list of all-natural kibble alternatives. In fact, a lot of times, a pup will have both ears up and all of a sudden, they will come back down when the pup starts to teeth. Many owners panic when this happens. But not to worry, I have never seen a pup whose ears did not go back up when this happens. If a pup does not have his ears up by 5 months, I strongly recommend that you get involved with taping your dog's ears. Use the thin white surgical tape the kind that's paper-thin and tears easily. The 3M Micropore tape, 2" wide, works well. I like to use women's hair rollers. Take the plastic out of them and just use the foam. Wrap the ear around the foam and tape them into a tight roll. In a vertical position. Take a popsicle stick and attach it to the top part of both ears. In a horizontal position. The pup is going to tear the tape or stick off the ears several times. The key is to continue to re-tape the ears. Sooner or later, the pup will forget the tape and ignore it. About once a week, take the tape off and see if the ears will stand on their own. Continue to re-tape until the ears stand. If the ears are not up by 7 or 8 months, they are not going to come up. The ears should look like this once taped. The same dog with ears now up. I have seen ears that did not stand, which in my opinion would have stood had they been taped. So this process is not something to take lightly. I also need to say that many ears will be a little weak right after taping but with time, they will strengthen. So when an ear does not stand perfectly after taping don't panic. Just have patience and see what happens. You will really not have an idea exactly what you have until the pup is 12 months old. When ears do not stand, there are ear implants that can be surgically added. I have no experience with this and do not know anything about them. If you are unlucky enough to have a dog whose ears will not stand, I would point you toward a vet that has some experience in this area. I don't think it's something that normal small animal vets know how to do well. In my opinion, too young to tape. The material to use to tape German Shepherd Ears The pup with its ears taped I prefer taping German Shepherd Dogs ears after the dog has finished teething. This usually means the dog is older than 4 - 6 months. Maybe waiting another month would have been a better idea for this puppy.

Part of that responsibility includes doing everything possible to assure their well being after they go to a new home. While all quality dog foods will provide everything needed to sustain life, virtually all of them are cooked during the manufacturing process. The heat from cooking causes much of the nutrients to be lost during the process. NuVet Plus is cold processed allowing all of the benefits of its rich nutrients to be retained, giving your new puppy an extra layer of protection, especially during the most critical first year of life. When a puppy is moved away from its mother and siblings to live with its new family, the immune system is weakened by the stress of adoption and exposure to bacteria and viruses in its new home. So starting NuVet Plus now is important to helping your puppy grow into a healthy adult. The vaccine series is also started during this time period. Vaccines are only effective if the immune system can respond properly. If the immune system is distracted by combating an actual disease processor and it does not receive the nutrients required to keep it strong during times of stress, the health of the puppy is at risk. The best way to prevent illness during this critical time is to provide the nutritional support required for proper immune system function. They love their dogs and show commitment to the betterment of the breed in everything they do. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. Share A Story! Lifespan Sociability Buying any dog requires commitment. But when that dog is as big as a Boxane, there are a few extra things you need to consider. For starters, these dogs need a great deal of outdoor space. Ideally, that should be in the form of a large and secure yard in which they can run about freely. From a financial perspective, you should also consider whether you can afford to keep a dog this size. Boxanes eat a large amount of food, and not only does the cost of their food add up, but everything they need, including things like vaccinations and holiday boarding, will cost more than it would be for a smaller dog. As is typical with hybrid breeds, particularly those with parent dogs that have significant physical differences, the appearance of your puppy can vary substantially, depending upon which genes are most dominant. This means that fully grown Boxanes from the same litter may have a weight range of between 60 and pounds. Neither the Great Dane nor the Boxer has a reputation for being an excessive barker, a trait that they have passed on to the Boxane. This is not to say that they are not vocal dogs, just that they will usually vocalize with a range of grumbles, growls, and whines. Aggression toward other dogs is a trait that the Boxane can sometimes inherit from their Great Dane parent and is an issue that if left unchecked, can be particularly problematic given their size. Fortunately, this aggressive behavior can be prevented or at least greatly reduced through early socialization, ongoing regular exposure to other dogs, and training. To start with, due to their size, they need a family that lives in a house with a large yard. The Boxane is not at all suitable for life in an apartment. They are typically quite good with children. However, they are excitable dogs, and when they start running and jumping about the place, they can unintentionally knock a small child over and injure them. For this reason, the Boxane is not the best dog to get when you have toddlers and young children. They require a great deal of exercise each day, and you need to be prepared to spend several hours a day taking them out for a long walk or run. You should also be prepared for them to take over and destroy your yard. As any owner of a big dog will tell you, it is next to impossible to maintain a nicely manicured lawn when you have a large dog romping around on it every day. We recommend that a Boxane should be fed high-quality, size-specific dog food, such as Royal Canin Large Adult Dry Dog Food , which will meet all their daily nutritional requirements. Being large dogs, Boxanes can be susceptible to joint problems later in their life, and these can be more of a problem when a dog is overweight. On average, your Boxane will require at least 60—90 minutes of vigorous exercise each day. In addition to taking them for a walk or run around the neighborhood, you may want to consider activities such as hiking or trail running , as exploring new areas and different routes is a great way to prevent boredom from setting in. They do, however, have a bit of a stubborn streak. So, unless you find a way to keep their training fun and interesting, you may have trouble getting your dog to go along with the program. As mentioned earlier, it is imperative that in addition to obedience training, you take the time to socialize your Boxane while they are young. It is particularly important that your dog gets comfortable meeting and playing with new dogs while still a puppy, to prevent them from showing aggression toward other dogs later in life. They have short straight hair that will not knot or tangle, so they can typically get away with being brushed once every couple of weeks. Regular bathing is not required either, which given the size of the Boxane, is fortunate. As with all dogs, your Boxane will need to have their nails clipped every four to six weeks and will also benefit from having their teeth brushed with canine toothpaste regularly. Many Boxer owners claim that once you own a Boxer you will be smitten with the breed and never think about owning another dog. They are particularly celebrated for their clownish antics and sense of fun during a very prolonged puppy-hood. But that is not to say that this dog does not also have a serious side. Added into the mix is the tenacity and drive of the Terrier influence. The Boxer is a very energetic and athletic dog with a high prey drive. This means that you can expect this dynamic dog to boisterously chase and run around. Some of the breed will go after small animals on a walk and this combined with an inquisitive nature means that they love to explore. This means recall should be an important feature of the training regime. This is also a very active breed who need a good outdoor space to play in and once they have fully grown thrive on long walks and plenty of exercise. Like the Boxer , when fully grown, they are able to walk for many miles tirelessly. So the Great Dane Boxer mix will require plenty of exercise, but will offer an excellent companion to any hikers or long distance walkers out there. The Boxane is a hybrid whose parent breeds have a lot in common. Both the Great Dane and the Boxer also share common heritage in that the Mastiff is thought to have influenced both breeds. As with all mixed breeds, the Boxane could favor either parent breed in a number of ways. This dog, like both parent breeds, will have a lean muscularity as well as an athletic build with a well defined, tucked up stomach and flanks. The back will be straight and the tapering tail carried high. The bluntness of the short muzzle of Boxer is likely to be softened by the influence of the Great Dane which is deeper and more squared. There is a possibility of some slight furrowing or wrinkles on the forehead through the Boxer influence. The Boxane is a very physically impressive dog with a kind inquisitive expression. The Great Dane not only casts a large shadow, but literally becomes a a large shadow as it follows its owners around. The Boxer influence will do little to mitigate this as they are also a people-oriented breed and extremely loyal. Nevertheless this hybrid breed is going to need a very active and experienced owner willing to spend time ensuring this dog is socialized and fully entertained with extensive walking and lots of interactive play. So you can certainly expect a Boxer Great Dane Mix to be an exuberant and spirited. This means it will require consistent , patient training which is firm but gentle and based around positive reinforcement. With socialization and training the Boxane will be a confident and obedient dog who is both a good companion in the home, and a well-behaved canine citizen outside of the home. But the Great Dane influence is likely to temper this stubbornness, and both dog breeds thrive on praise and are very eager to please. You can therefore expect a Boxer Great Dane Mix to be a devoted companion who will generally be biddable. It is important, however, to make sure any training is governed by an approach based around positive reinforcement to ensure the dog is happy, confident and a joy outside of the house. But this dog will want to play with everything that moves including children and any other pets. This makes early socialization absolutely imperative to avoid accidents and maintain relaxed and problem-free relationships between this huge hound and other canine, human and even feline members of the family. The Boxer is people-oriented but will still be protective of its family when strangers are in close proximity of its human pack. It will also bark an alarm if anyone approaches the house adding an edge to the more mellow and accepting temperament of the Great Dane. Also both of these dogs are powerful and swift, so the deep resounding bark of the this dog will quickly followed by this lithe and muscular guardian. But you can be certain that with socialization in place any welcome visitors will have absolutely nothing to fear. The Boxane is likely to be gregarious and willing to play with other dogs, although due to the Boxer influence there may be the occasional episode of dominant behaviour or aggression with a few dogs. Nevertheless early socialization will generally ensure that this huge hound will enjoy play-time with its canine pals without incident. This dog will be able to live with smaller animals and other dogs but if you are bringing a puppy home to an established dog this should be done in a carefully structured way as outlined in introducing a puppy to an older dog. The Boxane is a dog who will benefit from a good run of the leash each day. But ensure that the Great Dane Boxer Mix is trained in recall from as early age as possible to ensure that they are consistently manageable and obedient outside. Remember also that any Great Dane hybrid dog requires special consideration in terms of the planning of exercise for puppies and young dogs that are still growing. This means that exercise should initially be compartmentalized into little and often rather than one walk in the very early years of the dog. This is because over-exercise can potentially damage bones, ligament and joints in the Great Dane and potentially also in this dog. If you are concerned regarding this then it is highly advised that you discuss this with a vet alongside feeding and other aspects of fundamental care for this huge hybrid. For an experienced owner who is also very active the Great Dane Boxer Mix makes an absolutely wonderful family pet. The ideal owner will be active, patient and willing to put in time to socialize and train this dog. Also any experience with large and powerful breeds would be hugely beneficial. Due to its size, power and high energy levels this dog is best suited to a home environment where they have human company for most of the day. If it is essential to leave this dog for any period of time regularly then it is absolutely imperative to offer training for separation anxiety at an early stage. Like all Great Dane hybrids, this dog will suffer without strong canine leadership. Any less experienced dog owners should prioritize attendance at puppy training classes in order to support their dog feeling happy and secure. The Great Dane Boxer Mix has very minimal grooming requirements. The short and sleek coat is only likely to require a weekly brushing. But remember that this should be done daily in periods of hot weather to remove dead hair in order to keep this dog comfortably cool. This will be particularly true if the hybrid breed favors the Boxer as the muzzle will be shorter which will slightly impair natural cooling. Some Boxanes may inherit furrows on the face from the Boxer. This combination of breeds means a dog that is both physically large, and also absolutely full of play and energy. This is therefore a dog that is going to need space both inside and outside the house. It is ideally suited to a rural area or a home which has a good-sized, secure area outside in which to burn off its almost inexhaustible supplies of energy and willingness to play.
