Physical Play Activities Physically playing with a French Bulldog provides an opportunity for them to release energy. Games with ample activity are good for stamina, too. If you want to teach this game to your French bulldog, having treats handy always helps. Then, teach it to bring the ball to you that you lie or throw down nearby. This way, the dog learns what the end goal of the game is. Always praise and give treats immediately when your dog cooperates. Over time, throw the ball further and further. If your Frenchie gives you the ball, throw it again without waiting. If your dog does come but does not want to let go of the toy, you can initially use two toys keeping one on you. As soon as your dog with the first toy is near you, show the second toy with the goal of having them drop the one they have. As soon as the dog lets go of his toy, you immediately throw the second toy. Never try to pull the toy out of his mouth. If he refuses to let it go, not to worry. Practice makes perfect. Playing fetch is always fun and allows your dog to get energy out and connect with you. A ball bounces in all directions, so your dog must run, brake, and turn quickly. Continuous braking and turning can cause the joint parts to collide, which can cause damage to the joint and cause scar tissue and osteoarthritis. You can play a mini version of fetch with your puppy where you throw a smaller toy close by instead of having them chase a ball and run it back to you. Puzzles There are all kinds of interactive puzzles with varying challenges and ability levels for dogs. The opportunities are actually quite endless. This area is cleaned and disinfected throughout 24 hours a day. If a puppy has an accident it is cleaned up and then disinfected, this is done so that by the time the puppies are six weeks old they are going outside to potty. Going outside by six weeks old to use the bathroom does help when they leave here at eight weeks old and go to their new homes in house breaking. Security cameras monitor puppies all the time and with this we can see if there is anything that needs to be done to them, while still allowing moms to help with the care of the puppies. Moms need to be able to feel comfortable with the puppies and help teach them the first eight weeks. This also helps make a better puppy when it goes home. We use blankets, towels, toys and other items in with the puppies to entertain them and help them get used to things before they go home. They hear vacuums, tractors, trucks, radio, and other noises as well. In summer time they get swimming pools and if weather is nice they run to the pond for adventures. We provide a large play area with toys to entertain them. They get Kuranda beds to sleep on or play king of the bed on. Puppies are given vaccines, vet care, wormings, vitamins, probiotics daily and fed a good quality feed. We start the weaning process at 3. This is puppy food, goats milk, and probiotic mix that we make for them four times a day. We wanted to provide them with a safe and clean environment. They have fresh water, food and outdoor access. It has lighting inside to provide them with artificial lighting as well as outside they have natural sunlight. Every dog gets their own Kuranda bed and their own toys. We buy lots of toys here for the dogs and they appreciate that. We believe that if you are going to breed, that care of the adults is just as major as care of the puppies. The building we use for the puppies went in in March .It is sectioned off inside for each mother, so that moms feel secure with their babies. I had spoken with Christine over the phone several months earlier and told her what we were looking for. We wanted a male with low to medium energy to fit into my household with two young daughters but still had the ability to be protective of the family. Our previous shepherd had passed away a few months earlier. He was a large Czech male with strong working, prey, and protection drives. And while he was a great dog, he required constant training and wanted to work all the time. We were looking for a dog with all the great qualities of our previous dog, but would be happy relaxing with us and not feel he needed to be working all the time. Christine understood exactly what we were looking for and put us on her list while she waited for a pup that would be a fit for us. During the time that we were waiting for a puppy, Christine maintained communication with us and was there to answer any questions I had and was not at all bothered by me periodically contacting her to get updates. She eventually contacted me to let me know that she had a puppy identified for us based on our needs. She kept me up to date on our pups progress by sending me pictures and videos so we could watch him develop. We chose to take possession of the puppy around weeks rather than at 8 so she could build the foundation for his training. We were able to hit the ground running with his training and he adapted to us immediately. At around 16 weeks we took our pup Axel to work with the trainer who had help me train my previous GSD and several rescue dogs I had fostered. He told me several times how impressed he was with his ability to learn and understand what we wanted him to do. He also told me how rare it was for a 16 week old puppy to have that amount of focus and such sound nerves and confidence. He recommended we also do nose work with him and said that he is a candidate to do any type of training we wanted. And his eye contact is what impressed him most. Axel would stare at me for very long periods of time waiting for me to tell him the next thing to do. Hearing him give my pup such high praises made me very proud and also made me confident we had made the right choice going with Christine and Tre Good for our new family member.
