Sponsor Meet Obie Obie is a great dog who is happy, loving, and playful. Of course, he is a Bulldog so he also enjoys lounging and being lazy too! Obie loves attention from his trusted humans and enjoys playing with his beloved Jollyballs when he is in a playful mood. When he plays and while he doesn't mean it in an aggressive way when he is playing he does sound a little ferocious and loves to growl quite loudly while he literally prances around and tosses his ball around the room. For him, "a tired dog is a happy dog" would likely be his best course of action for success in his adoptive home. When he isn't playing, he is content to lay on his dog bed next to the couch and suckle on a stuffed toy and snooze. He is not allowed up on furniture in his foster home and should never be allowed to be in an elevated position up on a couch, bed, chair, ottoman, etc. Obie is likely not a dog that one will be able to snuggle on the couch or in bed with. However, he is just as happy being near his people, getting head scratches and hanging out with them. He will occasionally resource guard his ball a bit around other dogs if they are attempting to steal it away but overall plays "keep away" pretty well with the other dogs in his foster home for the most part. They are always monitored to ensure one isn't stealing the others toys and are being respectful of each other during playtime. While Obie doesn't mind the company of other dogs and playing with them from time to time, he does best with easy going dogs who will not try to bully him or start fights with him. Obie does have aggressive outbursts from time to time and those are likely linked to neurological issue that he has had since puppyhood. He was attacked by another dog and shaken when he was very young so while he gets around just fine and can walk and run just like any other normal dog, he does walk slightly off kilter with a sort of "swagger". Obie is ultimately an insecure dog that needs to find a home that is quiet and easy going with a family that will provide calm, firm, and consistent leadership for him. He absolutely needs a family who is very dog experienced, can be diligent and consistent in paying attention to and reading his body language and who is able and willing to deal with any issues as they arise. He does best with calm, firm and consistent leadership because he can then trust and rely on his people to provide him with a safe and secure environment. It did take Obie time to learn to trust his foster family and, initially, he was quite leery and standoffish with them. This should also be expected in his adoptive home until he has been given time to be able to build a relationship with his new family members and has learned that he can trust them. Obie sometimes zones out and "sees red" and displays aggression toward the humans in his home when something occurs that upsets him, most typically when he is asked to do something he does not want to do or if something occurs that makes him feel insecure. Obie has bitten and has drawn blood in the past. It should be noted that if he is able to make contact, he bites with a determined bite each and every time. After he calms down a bit, he does seem to have learned his aggressive behaviors are not acceptable in his current foster home and he typically will put himself in a time out in his kennel as his foster family has trained him to do. If he doesn't start heading toward his kennel on his own, his foster family will firmly tell him to "go to bed" and point toward his kennel in which he will then typically go to his kennel. When placing his muzzle, diligence and caution must be taken. Any type of grooming interaction that makes him uncomfortable and insecure feeling which, to date, we have experienced is all of them , he will begin displaying aggressive tendencies. The muzzle will protect his people so that he can have necessary care routines accomplished without the danger of being bitten. Again, if he is given the opportunity, he WILL bite when he is feeling insecure, scared or uncomfortable if precautions are not taken in advance to avoid such instances. Obie is always fed in his kennel to avoid food aggression issues. He is asked to sit and and wait calmly in his kennel and then his food can be placed inside of his kennel without issue. His food bowl is not removed from his kennel until he is out of his kennel. Again, he MUST have a calm, firm and consistent leadership in his adoptive home, just as he does with his foster family. With calm, firm and consistent leadership he seems to do very well and his outbursts are only occasional and now that they know him well, can usually be expected and predicted with with his foster family. Due to his bite history, Obie will not be able to be adopted to any home with children under the age of 16 years old. Considering Obie for adoption? She is a much happier, stable dog on it than off. Bea will become overly stressed in high energy environments and prefers a more relaxed environment. She needs firm leadership, and a consistent routine as this helps her confidence and with confidence comes trust. She wants to protect her humans and does show extreme stranger anxiety when someone unfamiliar to her visits her home. However, with the correct introduction she will warm up to a new friend quickly. Alternatively, she can be kenneled when someone unfamiliar to her visits the home and while she still barks, she does fine with that routine as well. Again, once she is able to gain trust she is a very loving dog and wants to be near her humans and enjoys affection and attention. A nice belly rub is one of her favorites! Bea should never be allowed to be elevated - up on furniture, the bed, etc. Again, she is an insecure dog and putting dogs in an elevated position gives them a sense of dominance. Her family members should always be the pack leaders with firm, consistent, rules and boundaries set forth and she should never need to be put in that position. When Bea is feeling insecure she acts out in the form of loud barking and lunging toward those unfamiliar situations and around unfamiliar people. She must always be leashed when outside of her home environment and she currently wears a martingale collar and a prong collar when on public outings to ensure her safety and anyone who may be around her. She is extremely intelligent and responsive to her leader and does well with firm leadership and positive reinforcement. Again, she does require a firm, confident, consistent leader. Her foster family believes she would be best in a home with calm, dog-savvy, gentle, children 14 years or older. Our outside run area consists of a fully covered roof, so our dogs are protected from the elements, with lighting and fans. The play area has over feet of beautiful black chain link fencing. If they are a good candidate additional health testing is scheduled per their age. We conduct several medical tests to verify healthy lines prior to breeding. The health tests set us apart from most breeders that claim their dogs are healthy per a veterinarian check or that claim that they conduct DNA genetic health testing but nothing else. One of the first health tests that we conduct and one of the most important tests on all our dogs, is DNA genetic testing. We have used Animal Genetics in the past but have been shifting towards using Embark. This test allows us to verify we have the best pairing of parents prior to breeding and that we are not passing on bad genes that could be avoidable issues in the future. After our dogs turn 1, they proceed to get OFA testing of their eyes and heart. A specialist either looks at their eyes or heart to verify they have no health conditions that could be passed to their offspring. If we are lucky enough that our young golden passes, we will move forward to the next health testing stage. The next health test that we typically conduct once our young golden is 1. While they are sedated to have these x-rays we usually also have Penn Hip testing done. Also, per our vet the Penn Hip is a better test to know the overall health of the hips as they test the elasticity and movement rather then judging based on an image. Last health test we do is done at the age of 2 years old. As the dogs age their bones calcify, a dog with failing elbow or hips younger then 2 could very well change to passing once they turn 2. Under each dog there is a link from K9 data. Unfortunately K9 data will not allow preliminary testing information in the link which is the OFA elbow and hip test results if the dog is under 2 years of age when the test is conducted. However we do list the preliminary test results under each dog. Once we have the official results K9 data will be updated to reflect their latest test results. We are constantly conducting health tests and updating K9 data as well as the webpage. Lots of factors could play into why a dog could fail their OFA elbows or hip tests. It may not necessarily be genetic but instead could be from the environment that they are raised in. Limiting their jumping heights is extremely important. Daily they are engaged with our other dogs, our young sons, our friends, and other family members. They all get a ton of love and attention. This ensures they keep up on their house manners and it also makes it incredibly easier when pregnant moms deliver within our home. Our dogs are not kept outdoors like you might see with other breeders. We also have them go into large fenced in play areas where they play in large groups with each other. We do not show our dogs or conduct any competitions with them. When I am not raising my children, I am constantly spending time with my dogs or interacting with potential customers. My husband works many hours in his law enforcement career to dedicate any additional time in competitions, trials, or shows. Once he retires and the children are older, we may pursue that however it is not our current focus. About our Puppies: I usually make the determination of puppies after 30 days of a breeding. I have my own ultrasound machine and can get a good determination of how many puppies are present. It does not give me an exact count. Only way to really narrow down the number of puppies is by an x-ray, around the day mark. I do not conduct my own x-rays and that would require a visit to the animal hospital. To reduce stress on mom and the puppies we do not do x-rays. I get a final count upon delivery keeping mom where she is most comfortable. Delivery of puppies take place in my home around the days after being bred, unless an emergency C-section requires otherwise. Typically, all our puppies are delivered naturally. Someone is always with the mother for the entire delivery. It is very strenuous but has the best outcome for both mom and pups. When all the puppies are born, we will post pictures on the Facebook page. We will then reach out to anyone on our waiting list. If by chance, there are any extra puppies we will make an announcement on Facebook after exhausting our wait list. Sometimes people back out and puppies do come up available at various times. During the initial few days into the few weeks mom and puppies are spending a lot of quality time together. We are keeping a close attention that everyone is gaining weight and seem to be progressing. The pups are handled daily by us. After about 2 weeks eyes and ears will begin to open. The fourth week they are starting to find their legs and moving around exploring. The fifth week if all are doing well, I begin the weaning process where mom is nursing less and less as I introduce kibble to their diet. We begin the deworming process and also begin the first vaccine. We do not travel with the puppies to an animal hospital. I feel it could be stressful for the puppies and creates an opportunity for the puppies to be exposed to other pet sicknesses. I have a traveling vet come and conduct full physicals on all of the puppies. You will receive a copy of her report in the puppy folder upon pickup date. We have outside play areas and toys for them to interact with. They will also be played with by children and handled by adults. They will have several toys to interact with. For an example if you contacted me in May for a female, and John Doe contacted me in January for a female from the same mother then John Doe will get first pick and you would get second pick. It seems to be the fairest method I have come across and will be moving forward with that process unless I discover a better way. I also reserve the right to have first pick so I can sustain my future breeding line as it dictates. I do not allow visitation to the puppies until they are ready for pickup. It also increases the chances for the puppies to get sick and potentially all die from a condition call parvo, as they are not full vaccinated. I have scheduled meetings with individuals that would like to meet me and the adult dogs fully vaccinated prior to making a commitment but not when I have current litters. After a few weeks old we begin to collar them so you can tell them apart better. I do not place or pick certain pups for certain homes. Some people may not like that due to a puppies drive or behavior. I personally feel training is key to your dogs behavior. You have to spend time with this puppy and be consistent. Once you pick your puppy and all paperwork has been completed, you will be provided with vet records of your puppy and the vaccines that were previously given. At this time, I do not microchip any puppies. I personally feel the best time to microchip a puppy is when they are sedated which I recommend during the spay. It is important to use a good quality pet shampoo — dogs have a different PH in their skin to humans, so regular shampoos is not suitable for use on your pets. Some vets will advocate regular plucking, others may suggest trimming the hair, but regardless, keeping the hair minimal, and the ears clean, with the use of an ear cleanser or a drying agent will reduce the risk of problems. You pop the solution into each ear and massage it for seconds and then wipe it out with a tissue — never use ear buds! Check with your vet for tips on hair removal and which solution to use. Your dogs nails should be done each time they get their coat trimmed and this is a service most dog groomers usually do as part of their clip. If you choose to do this, be sure to get your groomer, or your vet to show you how to trim the nails correctly. Grooming How frequently you choose to get your dog clipped will depend on lifestyle, how long you want their coat to be and, your regular maintenance regimes. Top of the head The top of the head should be natural, and cut long enough that it parts naturally by itself. To trim, pull the hair forward and up and trim to around cm. You want to be able to see the dogs eyes easily. Leave the eyelashes long — it helps to keep hair out of their eyes. Eyes Below the eye at the muzzle, trim the top of the muzzle short at an angle just under the eyes so they can see easily. This makes it easier to clean around the eyes also. Muzzle The beard and moustache should be layered and trimmed into a circular shape, rather than blunt - aim for around cm in length. Bringing happiness and love through puppies!! Some of my story…. I have been in love with german shepherds ever since i was 20 and got my first German shepherd dog named Elsa. I decided about 10 years ago that i wanted to start breeding. I work hard on breeding only from the best lines. I breed for health, temperament, workability, beauty, and many other things. I try to stick to long coats because those are my favorite. Our goal with our breeding program is to promote healthy, sound dogs, who are suitable for any situation and be gentle enough to able to be handled by families as well. I have a variety of drives and energies and each puppy goes thru temperament testing to make sure they go to the right homes, as well as being raised on the Puppy Culture Program. I do not promote the extreme roach back shepherds. Mine either have the proper gentle slope or a more straight old fashioned back. All my dogs are part of the family. We do not have kennels, and I will never keep my dogs in kennels. That would make them very unhappy lol. Every dog i own lives in the house with us and is part of our family. I have recently acquired a nursery shed! It was bought as a shell and I am building the whole inside into puppy rooms, and after the puppies are raised indoors in my bedroom for the first couple weeks, they are then moved out to the nursery shed! They will still be in the house all the time, but they will be in the shed and outdoors when nice for a majority. I am so excited for the addition and have been waiting a long time for it!!!! My goals for are to get ALL my dogs various titles! I implement the Puppy Culture Program into our litters! Its amazing, and so much fun! I love being able to give puppies the absolute best start in their lives which will impact their whole life! Its an amazing program! Puppies are raised for the first 2 weeks in our bedroom so we can watch over them carefully and someone is always with them during that time, and during that time we also do the Early Neurological Stimulation with them. Then we move them to their bigger whelping pens which will be the nursery shed now where we play classical music and other varieties including thunderstorm all the time except bedtime when its quiet time. They learn to use the litter boxes and play with toys. We introduce to new sounds, smells, and textures daily. They are raised in our home and underfoot most of the time, and are handled all day everyday, so they get the full family setting and used to daily family activities and noises and such. This is all a HUGE learning process for me. I do my best and try my hardest at all times. I do not claim to be perfect but I always strive for perfection. I want to produce the best quality dogs I can and I want everyone to always be happy with their lifelong companions. I may make mistakes along the way, but I will always try to fix them and do better next time and move forward and take each mistake as a learning opportunity.
