Different Dogs, Different Diets Nutritional needs vary from breed to breed. One only needs to look at golden retrievers to know they require a different diet than a Chihuahua! For example, joint and bone problems are much more common in big dogs than in little ones, but choosing the right puppy food can reduce the risk. Large-breed puppy food has reduced amounts of calcium and phosphorus, which helps control the rate of skeletal growth. Also, you may find puppy foods that contain glucosamine and chondroitin to support joint health and mobility. By consuming too much food, your puppy will have elevated levels of the very nutrients that should be limited. Additionally, overweight puppies may develop other health issues such as diabetes and heart disease. Good eating habits developed during puppyhood will lead to a healthy mature dog in the years to come. Nutrition For The Outside One of the most visible components of your dog is its fur. Nutrition plays a vital role in this area. A large percentage of the protein your puppy takes in goes towards maintaining its coat. Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acids are also essential for healthy skin and fur. Which Food Do I Choose? There will always be those who buy the cheapest brand on the market. Some will opt for the most expensive, while others will simply go with a brand name they recognize. The key is to find the right food for your particular puppy. One thing you cannot afford to ignore is the nutritional content. Because they are still growing, puppies need more protein than adults. Proteins foster muscle growth and development in puppies and lean muscle maintenance in adults, so the more of it there is in a diet, the better it is for your growing retriever. Fats, too, are important for golden puppies because they provide the energy required for everyday activities. You should be careful, however, not to feed your golden excess calories because this will result in excess weight or obesity. Eventually, your dog will end up battling joint problems. For instance, less expensive dog foods typically have lower-quality ingredients. The contents are often inexpensive, low-grade animal protein sources, like by-products and fillers. Fillers are frequently things like cornmeal, rice flour, or seed hulls. In general, thoroughly review the nutritional content of your chosen diet. Are the ingredients wholesome and natural? Does the diet have controlled calcium and phosphorous levels? Is the calorie and fat content limited to manage growth? Does the label state that the diet is complete and balanced? This can lead to obesity and will certainly cause increased defecation. The latter of these two issues will make house training more difficult than it already is. By contrast, costlier dog foods usually have higher-quality ingredients. The scales will be tipped heavily in favor of high-grade animal protein sources and fillers will be few and far between. Price is not, however, a guarantee of quality. The best dog foods for a golden retriever puppy are made with high-quality natural ingredients and have high levels of protein. Make sure the food is complete and balanced for daily feeding and formulated to meet the nutritional needs of large breed puppies. At this point, golden retriever puppies have likely already been switched to dry puppy food and you should continue feeding your pup the same type of food the breeder used. From the day you bring them home until they are six months old, you should feed your golden retriever puppy three times a day. Ideally, your pup should have breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. A grain-free diet is the default meal for golden retrievers that are sensitive to grains, but if your dog is healthy, feeding her such a meal boils down to choice. A lot has been said about grain-free diets. Reports and studies have been carried out in recent years trying to establish any connection between it and Canine Dilated Cardiomyopathy DCM. That all starts with choosing the best puppy food for golden retrievers. Avoid low-cost foods that are more filler than substance, and look for better foods that are packed with nutrients to help your puppy grow. In particular, consider trying a large breed formula to meet the specific needs of your golden retriever puppy. Good nutrition is an essential part of any health regimen, and providing high-quality puppy food will lay the foundation for a long, and enjoyable life. You May Also Like. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. But there are so many choices. The pet food industry has exploded in recent years. Remember though that, if you intend to switch your dog to a new diet, do so over the course of seven to 10 days to help avoid intestinal upsets or diarrhea. Types of Foods The main types of commercial foods are dry, moist, dehydrated, and fresh. As a large-breed dog, it would take a lot of moist food to properly feed a golden. Why Do the Ingredients of a Food Matter? Of course, your golden is a highly intelligent and sociable dog. Unfortunately, goldens have a higher-than-average incidence of cancer. But AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles consist only of minimum values for all the nutrients required by dogs and maximum values for just a few nutrients that can be toxic if consumed in excessive amounts. But, even with such regulation, not all foods are created equal. Feeding a food with low-quality ingredients may contribute to chronic inflammation and obesity. And chronic inflammation can contribute to arthritis, diabetes, cancer, and infection. Foods should be made from wholesome, natural ingredients with no fillers, by-products, or artificial additives. They should be rich in high-quality animal sources such as poultry, meat, and fish. Our beloved goldens are one of the breeds most likely to become obese. If your dog becomes obese, you can even ask your vet about prescription weight-loss diets. There are certain requirements foods should meet. The Merck Veterinary Manual states that adult dogs require a minimum of 18 percent of protein in their diets, whereas puppies require at least 22 percent protein. A good food should contain healthy meats and fats. They should also contain fruits and vegetables. And, of course, the proper mix of vitamins and minerals for optimal health. Natural preservatives such as tocopherols vitamin E , vitamin C, or rosemary extract should be used rather than artificial ones. Large breed dogs and puppies have different nutritional requirements than small breeds do. They grow more quickly than breeds who are small or medium-sized as adults. Golden retriever puppies have a greater risk of developing a crippling form of hip disease if fed a diet that contains too much calcium. Adult goldens can be fed any high-quality kibble or a kibble specifically for large breed dogs. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association AVMA , large-breed dogs have shorter lifespans than their smaller counterparts and can be considered seniors when five or six years old. The veterinary community has also been compiling and analyzing data on diet-related DCM in dogs. DCM is a disease in which the heart muscle weakens, leading to the loss of the ability to contract normally and pump blood through the body. Symptoms of DCM can include weakness, lethargy, shortness of breath, fainting, and the inability of exercise. It can become life-threatening. The link between grain-free foods and DCM is still being investigated, as there are many variables to be considered. Note that some dogs are allergic to certain grains and may need to avoid them. But this is best decided by a veterinarian, especially a board-certified nutritionist. Diseases which impact goldens, such as inflammatory bowel disease or atopic skin diseases and allergies, have a strong link to the foods they ingest. And, in determining how much to feed, the manufacturers of pet foods provide guidelines on their labels. But remember that the guidelines are just that. You can always adjust the amount of food he eats depending on his weight and health. In addition to doing your own research, you can consult your vet or a veterinary nutritionist to determine which food and amount would be best for your golden. But remember: there is no one perfect food for any dog. And choosing a high-quality food may also reduce his risk of health problems. What Do the Terms on the Label Mean? The labels on pet foods can be confusing. Learning what the terms mean can help you decipher which one is a higher-quality product. The terms on a label are listed in descending amounts of ingredients. So the first few listed are found in larger amounts than those at the bottom of the items listed on the label. Meat Meat is the skeletal muscle of animals as well as tissue from the heart. This may be beef, chicken, pork, lamb, or salmon. This is the animal flesh without any water extracted. Meat Meal It can include only actual meat, skin, and bone, which can be nutritious. But it can legally contain animals who were dying, diseased, deformed, or had died before slaughtering. Meat meals are the product after the excess moisture has been removed from the meat. These include lungs, kidneys, brains, bone, blood, heads, spleens, stomachs, beaks, feet, feathers, and intestines. Unfortunately, like meat meal, it can contain animals who were very sick or dead before slaughtering which need not be disclosed to the consumer. Whole Meats versus Named Protein Meals These are named proteins such as chicken, salmon, beef, and lamb. They can contain up to 70 percent moisture prior to cooking. Named protein meals, such as lamb meal, have that excess moisture removed being processed into kibble. So meals actually have more protein by weight than whole meats do. Fish Meal Fish meal is the clean ground tissue of undecomposed whole fish or fish cuttings, with or without the oil extracted. Ground Corn Ground corn is the entire corn kernel ground or chopped. Corn Gluten Meal Corn gluten meal is the by-product after the manufacture of corn syrup or starch, and is the dried residue after the removal of the bran, germ, and starch. Brewers Rice Brewers rice is the small fragments of rice kernels that have been separated from larger kernels of milled rice. Brown Rice Brown rice is the unpolished rice left over after the kernels have been removed. Soybean Meal Soybean meal is a by-product of the production of soybean oil. Holistic or Natural These are terms that some companies use. But they have no meaning according to the FDA. So beware that such foods may not be what we think of as being holistic or natural. Organic This means that the food is free from antibiotics, synthetic hormones, pesticides, and preservatives. Of course, higher-quality ingredients cost more. Also avoid foods that have been overly processed or contain hormones or steroids. Meat by-products and poultry by-products are one of the lower-quality ingredients. Try to avoid them. It can also be restaurant grease. Corn and soy are generally regarded to be inferior ingredients and fillers. Remember that if you feed a high-quality food to your dog without fillers, you often can feed less. And I also considered various foods before making my selection. My dogs are doing well on this food. Goldens love their food and eat a lot because of their size. If you are weaning a puppy, you can start to mix in a little dry kibble with their puppy milk to create a paste. You can feed this mix to your puppy up to four times a day, slowly reducing the amount of milk you mix in. Over time, your Goldie puppy will get more comfortable with solid foods, until you no longer need to include any milk in their diet. While chubby little puppies are cute, your Goldie should not build up too much excess fat once you start feeding them solids. Goldies go from a small 4kg puppy at 7 weeks old to an almost 30 kg adult dog in the space of only 10 months. At six months old your puppy will still be growing, but more slowly as they reach most of their body development milestones. This is why appropriate feeding in the first year of their life is vital to the overall health of your Goldie for years to come. Over time this can increase to up to 4 cups a day at 10 months old, though females should usually only need 3 cups a day. The amount you feed your puppy is often dependent on their size and sex. While they may have some growing left to do, it depends on your dog. Some Goldies will continue to experience growth spurts before their second birthday, while others will stay the same size. Large breeds can be at risk of growing too fast, which can make them more vulnerable to skeletal and weight problems when they get older. Golden retrievers are especially prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, which can be avoided through diet control. You should feed your Goldie between 3 — 4 cups of food per day over two meals. Adult dogs and puppies have different nutritional needs. This is important to take into consideration as you are establishing a feeding schedule for a Golden Retriever puppy. Puppies require more calories to support their rapid growth than adult dogs, but they also have much smaller stomachs, which means they get fuller faster. Because of this, puppies can easily overeat, especially Golden Retrievers. You can help your puppy avoid overeating by allowing them a short amount of time to eat, and then removing their bowl. All puppies grow a lot during their first year, but large breed puppies are more likely to suffer from negative health consequences as a result. In order to provide your Golden Retriever puppy with the most appropriate food to support their rapid growth, consider choosing a large breed puppy food. Goldie puppies need lots of protein, fibre, and fatty acids to support the development of their bodies and provide them with energy. These foods also take into account the difference in nutrient digestion between small and large breeds. Too much of these nutrients can cause your large breed puppy to develop skeletal abnormalities. So how much do you feed a Golden Retriever? Your adult Goldie could need anywhere between and 1, calories per day. The amount of food you feed your dog will be determined by a few important factors. The first thing to consider is the sex of your dog. On average, your male Golden Retriever will need slightly more food than a female dog. Senior dogs will usually be less active and so will need less food. Goldies in particular can have a lot of variation in the amount of food they need on a daily basis. No matter how much you feed your dog, it is ideal that you feed your adult Golden Retriever two meals a day at evenly spaced time intervals. Feeding your dog twice, once in the morning and again in the evening, can be useful for establishing a routine and avoiding overfeeding. This routine can also include exercise, and is useful for encouraging healthy behaviour around food and toilet training. Special Considerations Your Golden Retriever could be predisposed to several health conditions that are important to consider when you make decisions about their diet. Firstly, Golden Retrievers are known for their beautiful coats, but their skin can often become infected. Goldies love swimming, but this can cause problems if water irritates their skin. They can also be susceptible to atopic dermatitis, which causes extreme itchiness, resulting in licking and biting behaviours in dogs that can cause even more damage. For dogs prone to skin and coat issues, a fish-based diet can help alleviate symptoms. Fish contains plenty of fatty acids, which support coat and skin health, and rarely triggers any allergic reaction in dogs. Goldies often benefit from healthy grains in their diet, especially as avoiding them can actually leave your dog more vulnerable to nutritional dilated cardiomyopathy, or nutritional DCM. This heart disease is common in Golden Retrievers, and can be triggered by consuming too much grain-free pet food that contains legumes like lentils and peas. You should consider feeding your Golden Retriever foods that are full of grains and proteins like chicken or fish. These are the benefits and drawbacks of the three most popular options — wet food, a raw food diet, and dry food. Wet food can be a great option for dogs that need plenty of protein and fat, like working dogs or dogs with certain health conditions. It also hydrates your dog while they eat, which can be useful for dogs suffering from any illness. For dogs with highly restrictive diets, raw food prepared by you can be a great way to avoid allergens. You can have complete control over a raw diet, which does require a lot more work on your part, but can have great results. For instance, a Golden Retriever with heart issues should eat a low salt diet, which can be easier to achieve if you are preparing their meals from scratch. However, low quality kibbles tend to be made up of a lot of low quality fillers, which can be hard for your pup to digest. Whatever option you choose for your Goldie, make sure it is suitable for large breeds and contains high quality ingredients. This will help prevent degenerative health disorders in the long run. Your Golden Retriever will probably love food, and will probably try to eat anything you put in front of them, which means you need to help them avoid the negative consequences of overeating. Golden retrievers, like other large and active breeds, need plenty of exercise. Not only is this vital to their physical health, but it also ensures they grow up well socialised and mentally stimulated. As your Goldie grows from a puppy to an adult dog, the amount of meals they need a day will reduce as their digestive systems become more developed. Your dog will need two meals a day, once in the evening and once in the morning, from the age of 6 months.

The man responsible for the creation of the Boxer breed was Georg Alt, who was from Munich. He crossed a brindle-coloured female Bullenbeisser named Flora with a local dog of unknown breed. In , the first German Boxer dog named Flocki joined a dog show in Munich. After winning the dog show, he was the first-ever Boxer dog to be listed down in the German Studbook. While some of these minis may closely resemble their larger counterparts, they may not act similarly. Are boxers hypoallergenic? Unfortunately, boxers are not hypoallergenic. What problems do Boxers have? Boxer dogs are brachycephalic, which means they have flat faces. This trait narrows their airway and causes breathing problems. As a result, Boxers should not be out in the sun for a long time as it can lead to heatstroke. Overexercising them must be avoided too to avoid triggering breathing difficulties. How long do Boxer dogs live? The Boxer dog breed has a short lifespan compared to other dogs. He can only live up to 9—10 years, and this is due to the prevalence of health issues in the breed. These are the three most common colors. However, if the Golden Retriever and the Poodle carry the black coat gene, a beautiful black Goldendoodle can be created. Some Goldendoodles are all black, and some have white markings. But these are rare. Black and white Goldendoodles are the results of a Golden Retriever bred with a part poodle. So, can a Goldendoodle be black and white? Yes, Goldendoodles can be black and white. Can a Goldendoodle be black and white? Yes, black and white Goldendoodles can be achieved. When Golden Retrievers and Poodles are bred together, the result is the intelligent, friendly, and family-friendly Goldendoodles. One of the main reasons people seek Goldendoodles is that they like their appearance. Goldendoodles have perfect coats, especially if the Poodle genes are more potent than that of the Golden Retriever. Goldendoodles can either have curly, wavy, or straight coats. Their curly coats are the most demanded in the market because of their hypoallergenic nature. So, how can one achieve a black and white Goldendoodle? In this case, breeders breed a Golden Retriever with a parti Poodle and hope that the genes pass through to the child. If the genes do pass through, the result is a rare and gorgeous-looking black and white Goldendoodle. How do you get black and white Goldendoodles? Of course, the breeding process must be calculated correctly. Normally, one has to breed a Golden Retriever with a regular Poodle to achieve a Goldendoodle. But, the color specifications need other calculations. For instance, breeders have resorted to breeding Golden Retrievers with parti Poodles. These colors can be any other color, sometimes black too. This is how this rare coat pattern is achieved. Parti Goldendoodles have been increasing in popularity and the demand for them is steadily growing in the United States. Pigmented patches are most typically found on the ears, around the eyes, back, and tail. Patches that contrast with the white coat are usually solid dark colors, like black in this case. By the way, I explain more about how these calculations work in my guide to the F1 Labradoodles here , so do check it out if you want to understand better how this whole thing works. It has graphs and visuals and everything… Do Breeders try to get black and white Goldendoodles? Yes, breeders immediately read the market and try to supply the demand. So, when Goldendoodles were first introduced to the world of hybrid dogs, people instantly fell in love. Rightfully so. Goldendoodles are loved for many reasons but right now I want to discuss one aspect; the variety in their appearance. The black and white coat pattern is among the most unique and rare Goldendoodle appearances. Breeders seek to breed white and black Goldendoodles to make sure they maximize their profit. That being said, reputable breeders get excited when they can breed a healthy black and white Goldendoodle. Of course, the health of the Goldendoodle is achieved when certain standards are met. So, what are the most common Goldendoodle colors? These are cream, apricot, red, and brown. Please note that these colors are not ranked by most common. Cream Cram Goldendoodle almost have white coats because of how light their coats are. Cream Goldendoodles are usually used for breeding multi-colored Goldendoodles like merle Goldendoodles or parti. They usually have light features. For example, a lighter shade of brown when it comes to their nose, lighter toenails, and lighter shades of eyes. I have a full guide on English cream Goldendoodles here that you should definitely check out to learn more about them. Apricot People love teddy bears; it is a fact that has been existent since the beginning of teddy bears. Their gorgeous coat can also get lighter with time. Red The red Goldendoodle, like the apricot Goldendoodle, is one of the most popular coat colors for Goldendoodles. Red Goldendoodles resemble teddy bears too. They are adorable. Goldendoodles are usually created by crossing a dark-colored poodle with a light-colored Golden Retriever. Brown Goldendoodles can result in multi-colored Goldendoodles when bred. That is because they contain the black recessive gene, which means they can be used to breed black and white Goldendoodles. Are Black and white Goldendoodles different from other doodles? Yes, black and white Goldendoodles are different when it comes to breeding and appearance. Goldendoodles are all unique in their own way. They can either have curly, wavy, or straight coats, which makes them all look different to some extent. So, as discussed, when a breeder is not trying to breed a specific size or color, they will breed a Golden Retriever with any Poodle. With Golden Retrievers, breeders also know what to expect because most Golden Retrievers look almost the same. Golden Retrievers can indeed have different colors, but all their colors are basically different shades of gold, and the look remains the same. However, with Poodles, one can get creative. Hence, they will look different since the black and white Goldendoodle is bred from a parti Goldendoodle. From a temperament point of view, all Goldendoodles are more or less the same. They are loving, friendly, gentle, affectionate, and laid-back. They are known for their good temperament and that is why they have been increasing in popularity. Goldendoodles are mostly healthy dogs. However, the genes behind some of the colorings of Goldendoodles can potentially be the reason behind some health issues. For example, some merle Goldendoodles are prone to deafness and blindness. How much is a black and white Goldendoodle? Goldendoodles are designer dogs. With every unique feature comes a price too. For instance, if you want mini Goldendoodles or black and white Goldendoodles, you should prepare yourself to pay more. Variances in pricing based on color is because of the great difficulty of reproducing and the lack of guarantee for the number of puppies to be born. Since black and white Goldendoodles are in high demand and are considered to be very rare, their prices can vary from USD. The rarer the Goldendoodle is, the higher the price will be. Please Note that we still advise you to adopt and not shop whenever possible. We believe all dogs are good dogs and that there really is no reason to pay thousands of dollars for a designer dog when you can get a perfectly good dog from your nearest shelter that will probably love you even more. Consider visiting your nearest shelter soon. What kind of doodle is black and white? Doodles are usually crossbreeds bred from two purebred dog breeds. Many doodles come in the black and white mix. Examples of doodles that have the black and white color variations are Doxiepioo Doodles, Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, Saint Berdoodles, and lastly, Sheepadoodles. All these doodles are extremely good-looking. Their temperament is also very good; they are great family dogs and are just elite. You have learned a bit about Goldendoodles, and you can get more informed about the other doodles too. If the coloring black and white is what you want, you can compare between the different doodles and choose the best doodle for you. Most doodles have curly and wavy coats, which is why they are so loved. They all look beautiful, and most of them are hypoallergenic. Thus, they are perfect for families with allergies. If being hypoallergenic matters to you, then you should definitely check out this guide to the hypoallergenic Goldendoodles here, where I compare how hypoallergenic each Goldendoodle generation is. Are Black and white Goldendoodles rare? Yes, black and white Goldendoodles are extremely rare. That is because the pattern is not achieved easily. To achieve this beautiful parti pattern, a parti Poodle needs to be bred with a Golden Retriever. If you want your Goldendoodle to have symmetrical black and white on their coat, your chance is even lower. It is not guaranteed that your Goldendoodle will have the exact amount of black and white in their coat. The reason that they are so rare is that the parti gene will not necessarily pass through. Only one of the two dogs needs to have the parti gene. Normally this is the Poodle. Consequently, breeders start breeding their parti poodle with the Golden Retriever and just hope for the best. Due to the fact that they are extremely rare, they are often more expensive and are demanded very highly. Related Questions Why is my Goldendoodle black? If your Goldendoodle is black, they might be from the second or third generation. Black Goldendoodles have been sought after lately because of their beautiful coats and appearance. Some people get confused between Black Labradoodles and Black Goldendoodles. Can Goldendoodles be black? Yes, black Goldendoodles exist. They are rare, but the demand for them is very high. The black Goldendoodle is not born enough for their demand. Goldendoodles with curly or wavy coats are also non-shedding. Check out the best and healthiest foods for golden retrievers at every age here — Dry, Wet, Homemade Recipes, and Treats! Taking a walk? These are the best leashes, collars, and harnesses for the buck that you can find. By Kern Campbell Curious about the existence of black and white Goldendoodles? Do they exist together in one Goldendoodle, and if so, in what variations or patterns? Are they a common color pattern or more expensive than the other colors? I bet you are curious about the colors and patterns of a Goldendoodle too. Check out what I discovered. Can a Goldendoodle be black and white? While there are many colors of a Goldendoodle, black and white is less common and even more rare if perfect symmetry is desired. Goldendoodles come in a wide range of colors from their hybrid background that consists of two distinct purebred dogs. The black and white Goldendoodle can be called a tuxedo Goldendoodle for the tuxedo Parti pattern their fur color has. It looks like the dog is wearing a tuxedo. This color can be harder to come by. This coloring can be hard to produce because it requires that one of the pure breed parents be bred with a Parti colored Poodle. They can also be known as abstract or mismarks to identify the irregularity of their coloring. There is no guarantee that the coloring will pass through to the puppies with the black and white color. Those individuals looking for a black and white Goldendoodle can rest assured it is possible. With a reputable breeder that is knowledgeable and skilled, the likelihood that a black and white doodle can be produced is favorable. Goldendoodles come in a wide variety of colors and patterns with black and white together being just one of them. The Goldendoodle is a crossbred dog that comes from two distinct purebred dog breeds. With that being said, they carry with them the possibility of many color variations from their parentage. With a wide range of colors to choose from, an incredible array of patterns can also be created. The black and white Goldendoodle being one of them. The black and white coloring of a Goldendoodle is less common than perhaps the other golden or cream colors. While it is possible to get a dog with this coloring, it is a bit harder to produce. The type of breeding that is required can make the coloring unpredictable. Due to this unpredictability, it can cause the litter to vary. If the coloring does come through, it can vary from dog to dog, having one black and white dog that only has a white paw. Another dog of that same litter might have a different pattern, and yet another may have white spots on a mostly black coat. When it comes to genetics and breeding, the more or less you want something in the next generation, the more prominent or weak it has to be in the parents. Do all Goldendoodle breeders attempt to achieve black and white coloring for their clients? Each breeder will be unique in what they will and will not breed. Any reputable breeder will follow a set of standards that protect the health of the Goldendoodle breed and the puppies themselves, regardless of color or pattern. In the end, the health of the puppies and the safety of breeding for each animal must be considered. That being said, many breeders will attempt to produce a black and white Goldendoodle. However, many hope that most clients will understand that there is the possibility of variances in coloring. Many breeders, like their clients, can believe it exciting to achieve a particular appearance on a Goldendoodle. In the end, however, they realize and hope their clients will understand that the black and white color of a Goldendoodle is secondary. While adopting a black and white Goldendoodle in a family may be hoped for, other qualities like temperament, shedding, and health are more important. What other colors are available besides the black and white Goldendoodle? There are numerous colors and patterns for a Goldendoodle besides black and white. One of the purebred parents produces a dog with a golden coloring, which can come in light, medium, or dark. The other purebred parent has the possibility of several different colors. Beyond that, there are also unique colorings in each of the two purebred dog parents that are possible, including the black and white and patterns, including the previously mentioned Parti patterns. With this large number of colors, a breeder can create a wide variety of color possibilities in the Goldendoodle dog breed. Not all breeders are the same so potential pet patents need to research well before choosing a breeder for the best outcome regardless of color. If the black and white Goldendoodle coloring is unpredictable and rare, are they also more expensive? Yes, a Goldendoodle of black and white or other patterns can be more expensive. Many factors however, determine the price of a Goldendoodle. The mixed colored dogs of Parti and other patterns will generally cost more. The location of the breeder and client can factor into pricing as well as the breeder. Their experience, years of breeding, and knowledge play a part in how costly their puppies will be. A good reputation as a breeder may warrant a pricier puppy, but health and character should have no limits. Most people looking at a Goldendoodle, regardless of their coloring, want their dog to be healthy, strong, pleasant, and happy. Other factors that determine to price for a Goldendoodle, regardless of whether they are black and white, include their size and the supply and demand. Smaller Goldendoodles may come with a smaller price. Larger Goldendoodles can come with a bigger price tag. Age, whether they are a rescue, adopted or purchased from a breeder, and health of the dog, litter size and timing can all factor into the price. Whether the dog is golden, brown, and black or black and white will play into the final price tag. Does the coloring of a black and white Goldendoodle affect their health due to their genetics? Yes, it is possible for coloring to potentially be related to health issues but not in a direct way. This is true of the Merle black and white color pattern of a Goldendoodle. The Merle color pattern, which is produced by a particular gene, can cause health issues. These issues can include an increased risk of blindness, deafness, and certain forms of cancer. Finding a skilled, knowledgeable, and the experienced breeder can prevent these issues from cropping up in Goldendoodle puppies. Knowledge of parental background and safe breeding practices must be used. Will the black and white coloring of the Goldendoodle affect personality and temperament? Yes and no. The black and white coloring of Goldendoodle should not affect their temperament. It can be a factor in their personality. Their breeding determines this unique part of the Goldendoodle. Who they are genetically, the character of their purebred parents will determine the outcome. Personality also is determined by genetics but is individual to the dog and can, of course, be affected by outside sources, including environment and lifestyle. This can be similar to how a person might feel wearing a suit and tie versus wearing a Hawaiian shirt and khakis. Is it possible to change the personality by the color they wear, yes? Does it always alter the personality, no. Does the generation affect how much black and white a Goldendoodle can have? Yes, the generation of the Goldendoodle can affect coloring as it does everything else about the dog. Certain qualities can be watered down, absent, or increased with each generation. Final Thoughts While a black and white Goldendoodle might be less common than other colors, all Goldendoodles share that adorable cuteness and wonderful companionable personality. When deciding to welcome a Goldendoodle into a family, choosing the color might seem like the most important part. Health, character, and connection, however, should be the final deciding factors! Goldendoodles typically reach their full size by the time they are one year old. However, their coat may continue to grow and change in color until they are two or three years old. Are Black and White Goldendoodles Rare? Black and white Goldendoodles are not particularly rare, but they are certainly unique. As with all hybrid breeds, the color of their coat is determined by a combination of genetic factors that cannot be known until they reach adulthood. Coat Fading: What Causes It? Goldendoodles often have their white fur fade to a cream or apricot color as they age. Coat fading occurs when the pigment-producing cells in the white coat die off over time, resulting in a lighter shade of fur. With proper care and nutrition, however, this fading process can be slowed down somewhat. Black is another common coat color for Goldendoodles. A black Goldendoodle full grown may look quite different than a white Goldendoodle, but can still be just as beautiful. Black and white Goldendoodles are also becoming increasingly popular for their unique look. Many reputable breeders offer these dogs, although they may be more difficult to find than other colors. You can also check your local animal shelters or look for adoption postings on social media sites like Facebook and Instagram. In some cases, it may even be possible to meet a Black and White Goldendoodle in person! For instance, a white Goldendoodle full grown may require more grooming than one that is still a puppy since their white coats can be prone to matting and tangles. On the other hand, if you are interested in finding a black and white Goldendoodle instead, there are several things to keep in mind. Firstly, you should know that the white patches on black and white Goldendoodles typically appear as they mature into adulthood. Ultimately, whichever type of Goldendoodle you choose — white, black and white or otherwise — make sure you do your research first! Good luck! The cost of black and white Goldendoodles varies depending on the breeder and quality of the pup. While this may seem expensive at first glance, consider that these dogs are usually worth much more since they are hypoallergenic and low shedding — two features that many pet owners look for when choosing a new pet! You will have a loyal companion who is sure to bring you joy for many years to come. The Bottom Line In conclusion, yes a Goldendoodle can be black and white! These unique hybrids make for beautiful, loyal companions with an interesting blend of characteristics from both parent breeds. Yes, Goldendoodles can be black and white. Although many Goldendoodle colors exist, black and white can be rare if perfect symmetry is desired. Goldendoodles have become popular because of their easy temperament. These dogs are also known for their hypoallergenic and nonshedding nature. They are bred in different colors and sizes. The colors of these affectionate, playful, and friendly dogs range from white to apricot to dark black. Most breeders are getting fancier with the Goldendoodle colors , and you may come across some multi-color Goldendoodles, such as phantom Goldendoodles and parti Goldendoodles. With the advancement in DNA tests, breeders can create any color coat. This article will discuss everything you need to know about Goldendoodle colors. Keep reading to learn more. Therefore, mixing the Poodle and Golden Retriever colors leads to various coat colors. Besides, there are unique colored dogs like white-colored Poodles and black Golden Retrievers. The variation of coat colors is virtually infinite. Apricot Goldendoodle Apricot Goldendoodles are among the most sought-after Goldendoodles because of their sweet little teddy bear appearance. Apricot Goldendoodles tend to have black physical attributes throughout their bodies, including eye rims, toenails, noses, and eyes. In addition, their coats tend to lighten over time. They can often be confused with a cream Goldendoodle or a tan Goldendoodle. The apricot Poodle color was the last one accepted by the American Kennel Club in .Some breeders believe the color came about as a rare combination of brown, blue, and silver genes. Since the American Kennel Club accepts the Brown Poodle as an official breed, you can be sure of coming across many brown Goldendoodles at the dog park. The brown Goldendoodle coloring mostly comes from the Poodle dominant genes. However, it often carries a gene color of silver and black. Therefore, you can breed two different brown Goldendoodles and get different colored Goldendoodles since two recessive genes mask the black coloring. If you breed two brown Goldendoodles, you get a parti, sable, or phantom Goldendoodle, depending on the K, A, and S locus. Therefore, you may not get the same color when you breed two colors together. Red Goldendoodles The red Goldendoodles are also among the most sought-after coat colors. This is because their coat resembles that of a teddy bear. They have a red mahogany color that is the brightest of all the coat colors. However, it is regularly conceived by mixing a normal-colored Golden Retriever and a darker-colored poodle. Black Goldendoodles This is one of the unique Goldendoodle varieties. They are just as playful and intelligent as the other color varieties. A black Goldendoodle is a genetic diversity factor of a recessive gene that can be found in either the Poodle or Golden Retriever. To get a black Goldendoodle, both the Poodle and Golden Retriever will need to carry the recessive black gene. Therefore, black is rare compared to red Goldendoodles or apricot Goldendoodles. Cream Goldendoodle Some people confuse the cream Goldendoodle with a Labradoodle or white Goldendoodle because of the light-colored coat. The cream is an official color accepted by the American Kennel Club for Poodles. If you look at the phantom Goldendoodles, merle Goldendoodles, or parti Goldendoodles, you will notice that the cream color is commonly used for breeding a multi-color coat. They are usually unique because their physical attributes can vary from one dog to another. Some may have lighter toenails, lighter shades of eyes, and light brown noses. Many cream Goldendoodles usually have pinkish skin underneath their coat. The cream color has the largest variation of physical attributes. It is hard to spot two cream Goldendoodles with the same features. Their secondary color can be any color, although the common ones are tan and apricot. Recessive genes create these colors. It is extremely rare to get a parti Goldendoodle that is not a multi-generation Goldendoodle with more Poodle genetics. To create a parti-color Goldendoodle, you must breed rare recessive genes with other rare recessive ones. It is difficult to predict the color of a parti Goldendoodle without an extensive DNA test. They have specific features, such as a white nose, a white chest, and a streak of white on the head. They are sometimes referred to as the Tuxedo Goldendoodles because of their colorings. To get a black and white Goldendoodle, you need to breed a parti Poodle and a Golden Retriever and hope the genes pass through. Therefore, they are extremely rare. They can also occur from breeding a Goldendoodle with another Goldendoodle, although this is very rare. Their color is the opposite of the parti Goldendoodles. Merle combinations are dominant genes that override a solid color. If you want a merle Goldendoodle, one of the parents should be merle-colored and mask the recessive genes. You should never breed together two merle-colored Goldendoodles because of the dominant genes. If you breed them together, your merle Goldendoodle puppy can be deaf, blind, or have other deformities. They are born a dark brown or a solid black as a puppy. As they age, the solid color will fade as the coat grows. Eventually, they mature into a lighter cream or a tan Goldendoodle with black stripes. Phantom Goldendoodles Phantom is a rare color for Goldendoodles. Unlike parti Goldendoodles, phantom Goldendoodles have two colors in specific locations of the pet. The coloring location is similar to that of a Manchester or a Yorkie. Phantom Goldendoodles have a primary color that covers most parts of the body. These dogs are mostly black and tan, although the results may vary. There are several black, red, and silver mixtures for phantom Goldendoodles. Since puppies are often born with markings, it is easy to tell if your puppy will be a phantom Goldendoodle. While their coat is extremely rare, they have the same temperament and traits as other color varieties. Grey Goldendoodle The grey Goldendoodle is similar to a silver Poodle. They are initially dark black at birth but turn grey at 2 years when their hair clears. After two years, they will look like rustic silver and no longer black. You can also get a grey-colored doodle by creating an Aussiedoodle, a mixed designer breed between a Golden Retriever and an Australian Shephard. Tan Goldendoodle Tan Goldendoodles are a combination of the cream Goldendoodle and the apricot Goldendoodle. They usually have shades of white and apricot in their fur. Their attributes are from the standard Golden Retriever. Conclusion While black and white Goldendoodles are less common than other varieties, all Goldendoodles share that wonderful companionable personality and adorable cuteness. If you plan to add a Goldendoodle puppy to your family, purchase from a breeder that will offer your desired coat color. You will also need to consider other things like connection, character, and health. Sharing is caring! Can Goldendoodles be black and white, or can you get them only in golden shades? Quick Answer Goldendoodles could be black and white but are extremely rare for unexpected genetic combinations. Nevertheless, these cuddly companions demand much care, food, and maintenance. Therefore planning for everything your pup needs at home will help guarantee that your new pet lives long and gives you the company you desire. Be Consistent My first tip is that you must be super consistent when teaching your puppy. When I got my puppy, my OH had an annoying habit of allowing little Raffles to bite him, saying it was just because the puppy was teething. Raffles has a habit of dashing off to play with other dogs when we go to the park, and the best way to train him to recall reliably is to promise him a treat when he comes straight back to me. Teach Basic Commands Decide on a few basic commands that you want your puppy to understand and be obedient to, and focus on training him to perform those early on. We taught Raffles to sit, lie down, get down, leave it, stay, and come when called. Those basics are extremely helpful in many daily activities. For example, when getting a lively, curious puppy ready to go on a road trip to the park, it can be challenging to persuade him to have his harness, collar, and lead put on. So, with treats in hand, I instruct my puppy to sit down and remain sitting while I put on his collar and harness. When he tries to grab the harness in his mouth, I tell him to leave it. The penny will eventually drop! Dog breeding is both an art and a science. Breeders use genetics and temperament, among other things, to select which puppies will be the next champion. However, you must always be alert to choose the best breeder. For instance, if the breeder is unskilled, there may be a chance of genetic flaws or health issues. Besides, you risk infectious illnesses if a breeder sells Labradoodles before receiving veterinary treatment or vaccinations. But how can you spot reputable breeders when you start searching for a Pug puppy? Here are some tips to help you out. A good breeder will… 1. Issue a health guarantee Make sure that your breeder of choice offers a health guarantee. A reputable Pug breeder will write up a binding health guarantee for all of their puppies. The guarantee protects you against any genetic defects or diseases. It shows that the breeder is confident that their puppies are bred according to best practices. This means if you can no longer look after your pup for some reason, you will be expected to return the puppy to the breeder rather than taking them to a shelter. Provide standard health clearances Your breeder should have full health clearances for both parent Pugs. Good breeders often provide some early health-check clearances for their pups too, although some health clearances simply cannot be carried on such young pups. Issue a written bill of sale Reputable breeders offer written bills of sale to all of their new Pug parents. This bill of sale should be signed and will outline all the roles and responsibilities to be taken on by the buyer and seller as part of the transaction. Vaccinate their puppies All puppies should be up to date on their vaccinations before being homed with new families. Your breeder of choice should be able to provide evidence of these vaccinations. Reputable breeders welcome prospective parents into their homes to see the puppies. Follow age guidelines Puppies should never leave the litter before 8 weeks of age. Any breeder offering pups for adoption before this time is not following best practices. In fact, this could be quite damaging for the puppy developmentally. A reputable breeder will keep their pups at home until eight to twelve weeks so that they can be properly socialized and spend that crucial time with their mother and litter-mates. Answer your questions Last, but not least, a reputable breeder will be knowledgeable. In most cases, they will also want to ask you plenty of questions to ensure that their precious pups are going to good homes. We have a strict selection process that takes a variety of factors into account. That way we can ensure that only the best breeders end up on our lists. This way we know that our chosen breeders offer genetically sound and healthy puppies. Health testing shows a commitment to the health and wellbeing of each Pug. Contact information Any breeder that does not offer up their contact information is a big red flag. A reputable breeder will make it easy for you to get in contact with them by providing telephone numbers, email addresses, and they will usually have a well-established website as well. It shows a commitment to breeding best practices. Event participation Breeders who also compete in doggie events are often some of the best. Because these people tend to be dog lovers par excellence. They live and breathe for their Pugs and are proud to show them off in public. They are also more likely to have a high level of breed knowledge — an excellent sign for a breeder. Breed club membership There are lots of breed clubs out there that breeders can register with. These clubs have rules, regulations, and membership fees. If your breeder is registered with the Pug Dog Club of America, this is a great sign showing commitment to the Pug breed. Recognition awards Lastly, we look out for awards! Institutions like the AKC recognize the efforts and achievements of top breeders. The very best will be awarded the AKC recognition of merit award. During this time we recommend getting everything ready before your new arrival rattles through the front door. Your puppy will need: a crate for sleeping and training during the early days quality puppy-grade food a leash and harness plenty of toys You may also wish to purchase a puppy gate if there are areas of your home that you want to keep your Pug away from. This is all about making your home as safe as possible for your new arrival. Make sure anything that could potentially cause harm to your pup is removed. Clear your schedule Having a Pug puppy is a bit like having a human baby. So make sure to clear your schedule and get all of those errands done ahead of time! Once they arrive… 4. Avoid crowds Hold your excitement. That means no crowds. Try to keep the home environment as stress-free as possible so that your puppy can settle in and start to feel part of the family. Crate training is the first step. Lay down a regular routine from the get to and your Pug will be good as gold in no time. Welcome to the Georgia state page on TrustedPuppies. Rabies Vaccine Rabies is a viral infection caused by a virus secreted in the saliva. According to the Humane Society , because the infection affects the nervous system, most rabid animals behave abnormally. When should puppies get rabies shots? Generally speaking, puppies should get their first rabies shot around 16 weeks of age and again between years old. Rabies Vaccine Schedule for Puppies 1st shot: weeks Booster: every 3 years Non-core Vaccines Non-core vaccines are important, but they are considered optional for dogs with less risk of infection. Non-core vaccines are recommended based on lifestyle and where you live or travel. Bordetella Bordetella bronchiseptica is a bacterium associated with respiratory disease in dogs and is known to cause the most severe form of kennel cough. Symptoms of an upper respiratory infection include nasal discharge, sneezing, coughing, congestion, etc. Some veterinarians may recommend Bordetella as a core vaccine for puppies based on their living environment, especially for social dogs who spend time in areas where they might come into contact with the bacteria like the dog park, boarding facilities, or doggy daycare. The vaccination can be given orally, intranasally, or by injection. Bordetella Vaccine Schedule for Puppies 1st shot: weeks Booster: every year Leptospira Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease caused by infection of the genus Leptospira, which are found in water and soil. The zoonotic disease spreads easily from animals to humans and is more common in warm climate areas with high annual rainfall; the Leptospira vaccine may be considered core in these areas. Signs of leptospirosis may include shivering, fever, muscle tenderness, increased thirst, dehydration, diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, jaundice, kidney failure, liver failure, etc. Leptospira Vaccine Schedule for Puppies 1st shot: weeks 3rd shot: 1 year Booster: every year There is also a 5-way vaccine known as DHLPP, which is a combination vaccine of distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvo. Lyme disease Lyme disease is caused by infection with the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi which is transmitted through the bite of infected ticks. The most common symptoms in dogs include loss of appetite, lameness, joint swelling, swollen lymph nodes, and fatigue. More serious cases can also develop kidney complications. The Lyme disease vaccine is highly recommended for dogs that live in or frequently travel to areas known for Lyme disease, as well as those living in areas with a high risk of tick exposure. Lyme Vaccination Schedule for Puppies 1st shot: weeks 2nd shot: weeks later Booster: every year Canine Influenza Canine influenza, or dog flu, is a contagious viral infection affecting dogs. The virus is spread through aerosols or droplets containing respiratory secretions from barking, sneezing, and coughing. Dogs in close contact with infected dogs in places like daycare facilities, groomers, and kennels are at a higher risk of contracting the disease. CIV causes an acute respiratory infection in dogs, with the most common clinical sign being a cough that persists for up to 21 days. Vaccines are available for both H3N2 and H3N8 canine influenza. A bivalent vaccine offering protection against both strains is available as well. Dogs become infected when they swallow the parasite that may be present in water or other substances that have been soiled with feces leading to the disease Giardiasis. Giardia in dogs usually causes diarrhea, weight loss, or even death. Giardia is an available vaccine for puppies 8 weeks of age and older for 6 months of immunity against giardiasis. Most common symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. Young dogs are at a high risk of contracting the disease, so the vaccine is highly recommended for puppies under eight weeks. Rattlesnake vaccine A rattlesnake vaccine can help dogs build antibodies to rattlesnake venom from bites that are often deadly and severely painful to dogs. The antibodies work to neutralize the venom, thereby significantly extending the window of time you have to take your dog to the emergency room , increasing their odds of survival. Protect yourself from heartbreak without breaking the bank. Compare quotes to find the best deal for your budget. After that, puppies should receive a series of vaccines every two to four weeks until actual protein can be achieved between the ages of 6 and 20 weeks old. Your vet will determine a safe vaccine schedule for your puppy based on their weight, health, age, etc. Some pet parents prefer getting multiple puppy shots in one vet visit to minimize stress on their pet, whereas others prefer to spread the shots out to reduce possible side effects and soreness — talk to your vet to create a safe vaccine schedule that works for you and your puppy. Rabies depends on local laws but is usually given by the time your dog reaches 3 to 6 months old. When should puppies have all their shots by? Most vets prefer giving the final DHPP shot at 16 weeks or later; however, new recommendations suggest up to 20 weeks out. When do puppies need booster shots? Abstaining from booster shots can put your puppy at risk. However, not all vaccines require yearly boosters. DHPP vaccine booster: every two weeks for a total of three sets, then every three years Lepto, Canine influenza, and Lyme disease vaccine booster: one month after the initial series, then annually Bordetella booster: 1 year or every 6 months where there is a concern Rabies booster: every 1 to 3 years after the initial round, depending on state laws Puppy Vaccine Schedule There are several types of puppy shots your pet might get in their first year. In addition to a deworming schedule, your vet will suggest a vaccination schedule for puppies based on their age, environment, and medical history. Most vets recommend this general timeline for first-year puppy shots: weeks of age Between 6- and 8-weeks-old, puppies get their first shot of the DHPP distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvovirus vaccine. They might also receive their first round of vaccinations for Bordetella and Lyme disease. Leptospira Lepto is a common puppy vaccination administered around this time frame. They'll also get their first rabies vaccine depending on state-mandated vaccine schedules for puppies, as well as a second shot of the Lepto vaccine if applicable. Boosters Every Years Puppies will need a booster shot for all vaccines at age 1. Dogs need booster vaccinations for Bordetella, Lepto, Lyme, and Giardia annually receiving their first immunization as an adult. The vaccination schedule for DHPP and rabies is every 3 years, but check your local laws and defer to your veterinarian's advice to ensure your pet stays free of disease. How much are puppy shots? Non-essential vaccines your vet may recommend will also increase the price. Note that puppy shots cost more or less depending on several different factors, including your location. For instance, vets in crowded urban areas tend to charge more than vets in smaller towns and rural areas. Also keep in mind that you'll need to budget for booster shots in one- or three-year intervals to ensure your pet stays protected from disease. Fortunately, vaccines for dogs are less expensive than first-year puppy shots because boosters are administered in one dose every few years, as opposed to multiple doses every few weeks. All puppies need to get the core vaccines, i. Your veterinarian will consider the risk factors and advise you on which vaccines are best for your puppy during the first vet visit. No, but both vaccines for puppies are often combined in one shot. Distemper and parvovirus are two different illnesses that are potentially fatal if not treated quickly. What is the 5-in-1 shot for puppies? Do puppies need 3 or 4 sets of shots? It depends on their age; vets may recommend a shorter puppy vaccination schedule for dogs over 16 weeks old and not yet fully vaccinated. How many shots do puppies need before going outside? A titer test is a blood test showing whether your puppy has antibodies for a particular illness. The test can be used to determine the effectiveness of a vaccine and help determine if or which booster vaccines your dog needs. Most doggy daycares and boarding facilities do not accept a titer test in lieu of a puppy vaccination record. When should puppies get dewormed? Because worms are very common in puppies, veterinarians recommend deworming them for the first time when they're two to three weeks old. Is there a heartworm vaccine for puppies? Preventatives can either be administered as monthly medication or every six months by injection. How can you save money on puppy shots? One way to save money on puppy vaccines is by visiting a low-cost vaccination clinic. These clinics typically offer packages that combine a bundle of vaccinations into a lower price point, but also offer individual options if your dog is due for a specific vaccine. Another way to save money on puppy shots is by purchasing a pet wellness plan through a pet insurance provider. Do you want to find the best pet insurance? German Shepherd Puppy Health Protocol Vom Banach K9 puppy worming and vaccination schedule All Vom Banach K9 puppies are healthy, happy, vibrant individuals that have been very well socialized, handled and loved from the moment they were born. All photography by Cindy Fike, Fike Fotography. Below is our protocol for worming and vaccination of puppies here at Vom Banach K9, and our recommendations for puppies from birth through adulthood. Nemex-2 is 4. This product is for heartworm prevention as well as the monthly control of other internal parasites. Vaccines should be given in the right front quadrant right shoulder. Rabies should be given in the right rear quadrant right hip. The reason for this is should there be a local reaction to a vaccine or a lump develop later in these areas you will know which vaccine caused these reactions. When I record the vaccines in the Health Record I peel the sticker off of the original vaccine vial and attach it to the lower portion of the Health Record. I record the date, location the vaccine was given, vaccine sticker and initial. I do let clients also know should they later feel a small pea to marble sized lump in that region that it could be as a result of a vaccine. This is what I give here before puppies go home. I like to give it at 7 weeks to allow time for the vaccine to kick in as opposed to doing it at 8 weeks when a puppy may be leaving. I do not like to hyper-vaccinate by doing Lepto and Corona on their first vaccine also it is recommended that Lepto be given ONLY after 10 weeks of age and not before, so do not vaccinate with Lepto under 10 weeks of age. Kennel cough is easily transmitted from dog to dog by contact with a contaminated animal, on the ground, or in a facility where affected dogs have been in such places as dog parks, pet stores, veterinary hospitals, boarding facilities and cargo facilities where animals are shipped. We vaccinate all of our puppies here at 8 weeks of age or before they go to their new homes to aid in the prevention of kennel cough and your Vom Banach K9 puppy becoming infected during those first few weeks where the puppy may be traveling or in infected areas. We recommend a kennel cough booster be given every 6 months if you are frequently in contact with common grounds and unknown dogs. It is a virus similar to Parvo but not as severe. I would check with your vet to see what they recommend for your area. Corona is a puppy virus and does not need to be re-boostered or vaccinated in adult dogs. In puppies however you need 2 boosters of it same as with Lepto. I absolutely recommend vaccinating against Lepto. Lepto is a bacteria. Leptospirosis is spread commonly by infected rodents and raccoons and passed through the contact with urine it is as well very contagious to humans. It is common in our state and many others. The Lepto vaccine has very few side effects clinically with the Large breed dogs. There is a higher risk of side effects to smaller breeds. Life saving vaccinations far outweigh the risk of possible side effects from the actual killed modified vaccine for this disease. Please check with your area for Rabies requirements in your state. Puppies should be at least 12 weeks of age to be administered a Rabies vaccine. Prior to 12 weeks it may be rejected by the immune system due to the puppies own immunities from its mother so the puppy would not be fully protected from the disease. Because Rabies is required by LAW in many States, Rabies can only be given to puppies over 12 weeks of age for this reason and in order to receive a Certificate of Immunization. Because your puppy will be 4 months old by his last scheduled puppy series vaccine it would be too soon to re vaccinate at the 1 year birthdate giving him his adult 1st booster only 8 months after his last puppy vaccine instead of a year from the last scheduled vaccine date. I recommend one booster at 3 years of age and then a titer test to determine if vaccination is needed for specific viruses and for prevention against hyper-vaccination of adult dogs thereafter. Guidelines should be followed for recommendations for Rabies in your state. A titer is a blood test performed by your veterinarian in order to determine the presence of antibodies that develop in the body as a result of vaccines. A vaccine titer reveals whether or not the animal currently has adequate protection against a disease. Low titers indicate that vaccination will be necessary to provide immune protection. Puppies who may be staying longer may not receive the same schedule as those leaving at the weeks of age. I may vaccinate them later then the initial 7 week vaccine so I then follow a vaccine protocol from the date of the initial vaccine giving subsequent vaccines every 4 weeks thereafter for the remaining two vaccines. Because both Corona and Lepto need two boosters following the initial one is why I recommend puppies receive two more vaccines in addition to rabies after leaving here. I also discuss vaccines with my clients when I give go home instructions. And I hope it mostly sinks in. I think it is very important when they take their new puppy to their vet that they bring the record and be sure they are given the correct vaccinations and only the ones that are needed. I think it is important to be on the same page with your vet that puppies are not over-vaccinated. Quick Find. Discover the online program that more than 57, dog owners have used to rapidly transform their dog into a well-behaved, obedient furry friend. Possibly even more important is how to know what to vaccinate for and how often vaccines should be administered to our dogs. Generally speaking for adult GSD's, the most important things to vaccinate for are canine parvovirus and also for canine distemper. There are many combo vaccines on the market that can be purchased that containe vaccines to cover several things such as distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, etc at one time. Many factors are important when deciding on which combo shot to purchase and give your GSD when needed - for example, depending on the age of the animal to be vaccinated, it's actual vaccine history, it's current health, etc. Never vaccinate a sick or injured GSD. For optimal immunity German Shepherd puppies can be vaccinated at 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 weeks of age, and then every 3 years as adult pets. If, however, there are any degenerative or immune mediated diseases or history of cancer, then the pet should be evaluated to determine the necessity of vaccinations after the puppy hood series has ended. While a vaccination for rabies is required by law in most states, and must be administered by a licensed veterinarian, many German Shepherd owners, for financial reasons, will choose to vaccinate their pets at home for all other infectious diseases. Administering GSD vaccinations: When using any vaccines that must be mixed first, there are four simple steps to follow in vaccinating dogs. Shake mixture thoroughly. Since most vaccinations are given by subcutaneous injection just under the skin , the most convenient area to give the shot is located in the shoulder area, just behind the neck near the collar area. Other important factors in giving GSD Vaccinations: Always use a separate sterile needle and syringe for each injection, and a fresh and clean needle for each dog you're giving a vaccine to never share needles among your pets and then safely dispose of all used needles and syringes. As always, if you have any questions about administering your own GSD Vaccinations yourself, contact your veterinarian or your German Shepherd breeder. They will be happy to answer your questions and to show you the proper way to give your German Shepherd the vaccines that it needs to prevent it from getting many horrible diseases. For more detailed information about puppy vaccinations and the diseases that these vaccines prevent, please read on. I said to him "There now you're done. FYI German Shepherds Puppy Immunization Schedule The vaccines, treatments, and tests listed below are the current protocols we follow here at Gunbil German Shepherds to provide optimum health care for our dogs. Newborn puppies acquire immunities against many diseases by nursing from their mother. During the first two days of life, a puppy that nurses takes in the colostrum that is present in the milk that is first produced. These antibodies prevent the puppy from being infected by diseases like Canine Distemper and Parvo virus. These same antibodies are also the reason veterinarians suggest vaccinations to be given after six weeks of age. It is highly recommended that new puppies visit a veterinarian as soon as possible. The veterinarian will then educate the owner on the needs of the new puppy, look for congenital defects as well as look for signs of parasitic or viral infections. Those for the rest of these diseases are freeze-dried living virus that have been grown in tissue culture in a way that makes them non-pathogenic i. Actually, a single injection, at the right time, of all these live products imparts good, long lasting immunity to all of these diseases. The problem is that puppies absorb antibodies against these diseases from their mothers. In some puppies, parental immunity is low enough that by weeks the vaccination to work. In others, parental immunity interferes with the action of the vaccine for up to 18 weeks. The tests that determine parental immunity levels in puppies are expensive and rarely run. So because we do not know just when to vaccinate we give a series of three or four injections so that at least one of them will work. We only give Coronavirus vaccine to puppies because it is a disease of puppies. For subcutaneous vaccination of healthy dogs 6 weeks of age or older as an aid in the prevention of disease caused by canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis, canine adenovirus type 2, canine coronavirus, canine parainfluenza and canine parvovirus. Administer one 1 mL dose subcutaneously. Primary Vaccination: A recommended vaccination schedule should start at or about 6 weeks of age. The presence of maternal antibody is known to interfere with the development of active immunity. Puppies should be revaccinated every 2 to 3 weeks until 12 weeks of age. All dogs over 12 weeks of age should initially receive one dose of Duramune Max 5-CvK and a second dose 2 to 3 weeks later. Leptospira Canicola-Grippotyphosa-Icterohaemorrhagiae-Pomona Bacterial Extract For subcutaneous vaccination of healthy dogs 6 weeks of age or older as an aid in the prevention of disease caused by canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis, canine adenovirus type 2, canine coronavirus, canine parainfluenza and canine parvovirus. Annual Vaccination: Annual revaccination with one dose is recommended. Puppy Picks happen on the day that the puppies get to go home. This is so that families can better see the temperaments of the puppies, making it easier for them to choose the right puppy for their family. Some families are looking for a couch potato, some for a more active doodle to run or hike with. We will for sure help you during the picking process, whether in person or with FaceTime. Families can send a refundable deposit to hold their picking spot on a litter, then come on Puppy Pick Day to choose and take their puppy home. We post new photos in the photo gallery every weekend, so check that out! We wait until that day so that the puppies are old enough to be able to see their little personalities. The deposits are fully refundable for up to 2 years. If families would rather wait on a future litter… they will go on the waiting list. Your puppy can then be driven to you or we can meet you somewhere in between. We can also ship your puppy via American Airlines if the temperature is between 20 and 82 degrees, or we can recommend a flight nanny to fly with your puppy in cabin. You can of course remain on the waiting list longer than two years, if you want to keep passing on litters. .Be sure to contact us for our current pricing. Our mini goldendoodle puppies come with a 2 year health guarantee against genetic issues. Should something arise in those 2 years, we will cover the cost of treatment up to the cost of the puppy. Although this breed is very popular, it is not currently recognized by the American Kennel Club. As long as they are well-socialized, Miniature Goldendoodles tend to make excellent family companions. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Although they will alert you of strangers at the door, they tend to warm up quickly as they are more interested in making friends and receiving attention. Mini Goldendoodles are highly adaptable dogs. Their smaller size makes them a great fit for apartment living or for bigger homes with yards where they can run. As long as they get enough daily exercise, mental stimulation, and attention, they can adapt well. These little dogs tend to do well in just about any climate. However, like any dog, they are sensitive to heat. Due to their smaller size, you may need to gear up with some dog-friendly winter gear when temperatures start falling. Because this dog breed is loyal and people-oriented, they love to be in your company and do not like being left alone for long periods of time. This means they can be prone to developing separation anxiety if you do not work with them on it early on. Instead, make sure your new Mini Goldendoodle puppy has an active role in your life. If you do need to leave them alone for a bit, make sure they have some comforting toys or challenging puzzles to keep them from getting bored. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of the parents. You can also ask about any health tests and clearances that have been done. The Mini Goldendoodles is a highly intelligent dog that picks up on things quickly and is eager to please. They tend to be sensitive to tone of voice as well. As long as training is consistent and focused on positive praise and reward, a Mini Goldendoodle will strive to be obedient and impress you and tends to excel at almost any task. These traits make the Mini Goldendoodle one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and a good fit for owners of all experience levels. Daily brushing is recommended to remove tangles and prevent mats. Bathing is occasional and can often be relegated to the dog groomer that is recommended you visit every weeks. The groomer can help handle some of this during visits, but you will still need to do some maintenance at home between visits. Nail trims once or twice monthly keep nails from growing too long. Weekly ear checks with careful cleanings as needed help prevent ear infections. Daily brushing, plus cleanings at the vet as needed, is good dental care for dogs and can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. Although the parents of this breed have a lot of energy, a Mini Goldendoodle tends to sit in a more moderate activity range. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are usually enough for them. But, they are also likely to match their energy level to yours, so be prepared for some bursts of energy as well as plenty of cuddling on the couch. Fully-grown Mini Goldendoodles usually stand inches tall at the shoulder. A Miniature Goldendoodle puppy can vary in size based on the generation of the dog. The result is generally a dog that will range from pounds. Looking at the size of the parents for an F1 or F1-B puppy can be a good indication of what size to expect in a fully-grown Miniature Goldendoodle. Mini Goldendoodles generally live for years on average. Featured Mini Goldendoodle Article. Showing 1 - 40 of 40 resultsPage 1 - 40 results Sort by Your listing deserves to be on top. About Our Miniature Goldendoodles Our Miniature Goldendoodles are an exceptional hybrid breed, resulting from a purebred Golden Retriever and a miniature poodle cross. At maturity, they typically average 25 lbs. Our mini puppies embody the best characteristics of their parent breeds, including the amiable temperament of the Golden Retriever and the intelligence and low-shedding coat of the miniature poodle, making them ideal allergy-friendly pets. While our puppies are generally low shedding, some shedding may occur when the puppy coat transitions into the adult coat. Our female, Paislee, has abstract pups. Our puppies are wormed at weeks 4, 5, and 6 and receive their first puppy vaccine at 6 weeks. Before leaving our possession, each puppy undergoes a veterinary check to ensure their health. If any issues are detected, we will assist you in moving your deposit to another litter, if you choose to do so. If you wish to purchase a puppy for the purpose of breeding multiple litters, the cost is double the pet price. Our Happy Clients Our puppies have found loving homes all across the country.
