It is a medium-sized dog that is energetic, intelligent, loyal, and great around children. The Red Heeler German Shepherd mix has a high energy level that is best suited for families who want to spend time outside with their dogs. Because it is a relatively new and rare hybrid, it is also not acknowledged by the American Canine Hybrid Club ACHC and other designer breed registries. However, both parent breeds have contributed equally to the qualities of this hybrid dog. The Red Heeler , known as the Australian Cattle Dog, was developed in Australia as a working dog that could herd cattle and protect them from predators such as Dingoes or wild dogs. This breed was believed to be bred from European herding dogs like the Border Collie and then crossed with Dingoes Australian wild dogs to create this sturdy breed. On the other hand, the German Shepherd was developed in Germany in by Max von Stephanitz to herd sheep on large farms. They excel at police work, search and rescue missions, sniffing out drugs and bombs, agility training, and flyball competitions. The head of the Red Heeler German Shepherd is shaped like that of its parent breeds, with a muzzle that is slightly longer than its skull. It has dark eyes and ears that hang close to its head. The tail is somewhat long and curls over its backside when it moves around. The legs are strong with large paws that are very similar to those found on its parent breeds as well. The coat of the Red Heeler German Shepherd will vary for each dog, but most coats are either solid or mixed colors of red, black, or tan with white markings on the face and chest area. The sizes can still vary if the parent German Shepherd is a dwarf or a giant variation. They reach their full-grown sizes around 18 to 24 months old. Dogs that have hip dysplasia experience pain when walking or running due to joint instability. Elbow Dysplasia: Elbow dysplasia occurs when there is an abnormal formation of bones or cartilage inside or around the elbow joint of a Red Heeler German Shepherd mix, which causes pain. The condition can be treated with surgery or medication, but it is best to catch it early before the damage becomes too severe for treatment. The best way to prevent health issues in the Red Heeler German Shepherd mix is through the provision of a proper diet, regular grooming, and exercise. You should feed your dog high-quality food with no fillers or chemicals added in order to avoid any health issues down the road. Most importantly, take them to the vet once a month so they can receive preventive treatment to avoid health issues. It would also be wise to invest in pet insurance for medical emergencies. Cleaning and Grooming A German Shepherd Red Heeler mix needs frequent brushing and grooming to keep its coat healthy and shiny. If they have short hair like short-haired GSDs , brushing once a week will be enough to maintain their healthy coat. But if your dog has longer hair, brushing twice or thrice a week will help avoid mats and tangles. You can also use conditioners on their coats to keep them soft and shiny for longer periods. You should carefully monitor their ear wax color , as this may indicate ear infections as well. You must ensure you train your dog well and teach it to behave properly. These hybrids need early socialization to be easy to handle as they grow. Positive reinforcement training is a proven method to employ for the Red Heeler German Shepherd mix. This method can also help in decreasing their tendency to become aggressive. Exercise is also another important aspect that should be addressed when raising a German Shepherd Red Heeler mix. You need to ensure that your pet gets proper exercise for a minimum of 60 minutes every day in the form of jogging and running. If your German Shepherd Red Heeler mix does not get enough exercise, it might develop health problems such as obesity , leading to more severe complications if left untreated. You should discuss any change in the diet plan with your vet. It loves to remain active and play all day. As a responsible owner, you should make sure that you can provide it with the necessary physical activity and mental exercises it needs to stay healthy and happy. The exercise needs of this mix will depend on which parent breed it takes after more. While the GS needs considerable exercise, it pales in comparison to the massive amounts of activity that the Blue Heeler requires. The energy levels of the German Shepherd Blue Heeler make it a good pet for a physically active owner or families who love the outdoors. While this dog that loves doing different activities, running along its owner as they jog or ride a bike is a favorite. Older kids will undoubtedly appreciate all the games they can play with this dog, but its enthusiasm might make them too rough for younger children. Playing a game of Tug of War and Frisbee will bring happiness to your dog and strengthen your relationship as well. There are three types of toys that are ideal for your Blue Heeler German Shepherd cross — puzzles, chew toys and tug toys. Here are some of the best toys for your dog: Kong XXL: The classic chew toy from the company that specializes in sturdy dog toys since the 70s. Plus, it comes in a variety of sizes for your dog to try out. Place the pole in your yard and watch your dog tug and play with the attached rope. Watch your little buddy spend hours twisting and turning this toy to reach the treats. Ultra Ball: This virtually indestructible toy can be used for both outdoor and indoor play. Chuck it and watch your dog leap and run after it. HDP 18 ft. Dog Training Tunnel: If you have a large yard, a training tunnel is a good investment. It will simply soak up knowledge, making it easy to train. While this dog will learn commands easily, its innate stubbornness means it should be trained early. As a puppy, it will have a tendency to be wary of strangers and become possessive of its owners. This is not surprising as the parent breeds are family-oriented and dedicated to protecting its family. These are traits that it can carry until adulthood if it does not undergo obedience training and socialization early. Without the right training and exposure to other people and dogs, your German Heeler puppy will not learn to obey commands. In time, their protective, defense-based personality could hit extreme levels. It needs consistent, solid training and a lot of activities to exercise its mind and body. Positive reinforcement is the way to go. Use treats and praises during training. Harsh words and punishment-based strategies will only make the Blue Heeler German Shepherd aggressive. Be a strong leader. You need to step up and give your dog the leadership it needs. Proper training and socialization will lead to a well-adjusted and happy German Shepherd Blue Heeler puppy. But this crossbreed will thrive if placed in the capable hands of an experienced owner who has already dealt with strong-willed working dogs. German Shepherd Blue Heeler and Families When it comes to families, a German Shepherd Blue Heeler crossbreed will blossom under someone who has the proper training and experience in handling large and powerful working dogs. This is an athletic dog that will be happy to either help out with ranch and livestock duties, or to go hiking, camping, and exploring the great outdoors with its human. Newbie dog owners and families with young children will find the Blue Heeler German Shepherd too much to handle. If you want the industriousness and easygoing personality of a German Shepherd and the enthusiastic and affectionate ways of the Blue Heeler, then their hybrid offspring is the perfect dog for you. This dog will likewise be happy in families with older children and those who live in homes with enough space to run around. If you think you have room in your life for this unique dog, you have to step up and be the strong alpha it needs. You should make sure you can provide it with the love and attention, as well as the physical and mental care it needs. Lifespan Sociability In terms of energy and trainability, this breed is one of the best that you could bring home. The one area that a hybrid breed like the Red Heeler German Shepherd mix lacks is sociability rating. Both parent breeds are strong-willed and protective. There is a good reason for that. This breed was originally bred to protect flocks of herding sheep from predators. They were servants for farmers and not considered companions. However, as humans grew closer to these animals, they still thrived in a work environment. These dogs contain the same blood as Dingo dogs. Dingoes are free, wild dogs that are native to Australia. It is extremely rare to find a domesticated Dingo. They prefer to live wild, free lives, which is why Heelers have a bit of a wild look to them as well. These dogs are very intelligent and catch onto training fairly quickly, but only with owners who are persistent enough to handle their strong-willed nature. Poor socialization could lead to issues with children, strangers, or other pets. They do tend to bark a lot, and obedience classes could do this breed some good. These dogs are not suitable for cities or apartment living. The amount of energy they have pairs best with families who own a good chunk of land that allows them to run around and patrol the property. Are These Dogs Good for Families? However, not all dogs are the same. Puppies who grow up with the kids and are around other pets and animals a lot tend to adapt just fine to those around them. It is recommended to give active dogs of this size about 1. Divide this amount into two separate meals so that they eat both in the morning and at night. Cattle Shepherd mixes are happiest when they are given a specific job to do. The bare minimum amount of exercise they require is 1 hour, but they do a lot better when they have at least 2 hours of vigorous exercise every day. This level of activity is much easier to achieve when they have lots of land to explore. In other words, they are not suitable for apartment living. The biggest issue that owners face when training a Cattle Shepherd mix is breaking through their willpower. Brush through their medium-length hair once per week to remove any loose strands. They also benefit from a bath once every week or two since they spend a lot of their time outside. Keep the nails trimmed by using a sharp clipper. If you start the grooming routine when they are young puppies, then they are cooperative as adults. Blue Heeler vs. Both come from the same breed of cattle dog in Australia and share the exact same personalities and traits. The only difference is the actual hue of their fur. Blue Heelers are cooler with greys and browns, whereas Red Heelers have warmed reds, browns, and maroon shades. Traditionally, Blue Heelers are mixed to form this designer breed, hence the name. What does a Blue Heeler German Shepherd mix look like? This is going to be the start of the fun for these unique and special dogs! For whatever reason, the mask part that does tend to come through is the eyebrows! Most of these mixes will have some part of their coat that is speckled, which they get from their parent of the Blue Heeler. Some will have the speckling all over their bodies, and others will concentrate it in one part. Speaking of the base coat, your mix will have long glossy fur that is usually a bit wavy. Common coat colors include: Brown Black Grey If you find a mix with Red Heeler used, you can expect to see more red in the browns and tans than the greys and whites. Most tend to be solid in their base coat color, but you will get a two-toned option once in a while. How big will a German Shepherd Blue Heeler mix get? As mentioned above, you can expect your mix to reach between inches cm high and weigh between pounds kg as an adult. Often, you can get an estimate on the height from the parent breeds. In this case, however, that will vary as much as the range above does! Simply put, it can be hard to know just where on this scale your mixed puppy will be. Make sure you are prepared for either option! With a good blend of strong genes, you can expect your dog to live between years as far as lifespan is concerned. These dogs may not have a lot of severe health concerns, but you will need to be ready for the commitment of their temperament. If we were to put the temperament of a Blue Heeler German Shepherd mix into one word, it would be this: energetic. Both parent breeds were originally herders, so they spent their days running around and controlling sheep and other livestock. All this energy is then passed onto your mixed pup, who is getting it from both sides. This means that your dog is going to need massive amounts of exercise to help with this. Quite often, it could be as much as 2 hours a day in combination with mentally stimulating toys. For this reason, many do refer to them as being high-maintenance dogs! As far as other features of their personalities, they do tend to be lovely and loyal. They are very protective and will put themselves at risk just to protect you. They fiercely love their humans and will always be on the lookout for danger. They prefer to nap away from other people and chaos so that they can keep an eye out for danger. Are Blue Heeler German Shepherds good family dogs? There is still some research in this particular part of the mixed breed. In general, these are good family dogs because they always like to be in the middle of things. From camping trips to beach trips to a great hike in the mountains, these are going to be there for all of it — and then some. As mentioned, they are very protective of their family. They can be reassuring when you want a dog that you know will stop an intruder. That being said, this protectiveness can mean that they will be a bit over the top when meeting new people or animals. They will see everything as a threat, and it can be challenging to help them understand that a paper carrier is harmless. Their protectiveness also comes in combination with a strong prey drive. Young children and other household pets can trigger that, which can mean attacks and lunges. If you are set on bringing in a Blue Heeler German Shepherd mix. Breeders Families who are looking to bring a puppy into their home usually utilize a breeder. The pedigree and temperament of its parents, its family history of illness, and other facts can help you understand and care for your new pet well. However, not all breeders are equal. While an amateur breeder may offer added convenience, you will have to be much more vigilant in vetting them for yourself. In a best-case scenario, the perfect amateur breeder would be an already-close family friend or neighbor whose practices you are well-familiar with and who you know can be trusted. These sorts of encounters can often be a scam , leaving you out several hundred dollars with nothing to show for it. Of course, not all Facebook advertising breeders are looking to trap you. Adoption Unfortunately, there are so many unwanted and discarded dogs who need a second chance at a loving family. Fortunately, this is where you can come in! We recommend continuously checking shelters and adoption organizations before deciding to utilize a breeder. This is a valid desire for families with children or with plenty of extra time to spend raising a dog. However, puppies are often available to adopt if you look in the right places! Local Humane Societies and Shelters Regardless of where you live, you likely have a Humane Society or shelter in your local area. If you are close enough, you can visit to see what kind of dogs are available. Shelters are also very meticulous about health standards, so you can be sure that your new friend is vaccinated when adopting. Pets are also often microchipped and spayed or neutered if not already. As an added plus, adoption is often far less expensive than purchasing from a breeder. If you are open to adopting an adult dog, shelters are a perfect place to begin your search. You can never be certain of what kind of dogs will be abandoned or given up at no fault of their own. Designer dogs, like puppies, are in high demand and move through shelters quickly. Because of this, they are often run by breed enthusiasts who are knowledgeable and experienced at not only working with Goldendoodles but helping you find one with the right temperament to fit your family. Another bonus is that many breed-specific rescue groups, because of their specificity, employ a vast network of volunteers to make transportation easier. If you are not in the vicinity of the rescue itself, transportation options are often available. Most other countries have Poodle mix rescues. Make sure to ask upfront or research transport, specifically if the rescue is not in your local area. Even if you are willing to travel to collect your new furry friend, some rescues might have rules about the radius in which they are willing to adopt out. This is the perfect resource if you feel overwhelmed at the prospect of searching out a specific rescue. Unfortunately, many of these unscrupulous breeders sell puppies that are plagued with health problems throughout their lives. There are a few key points to keep in mind when choosing a Goldendoodle breeder in the USA. Here are a few things to consider: 1. The GANA is an organization committed to keeping track of the lineage of Goldendoodle breeds, and only allows those who adhere to their standards and provide documentation of health clearances to be members. Health Testing: The most important thing to look for when you are searching for an ethical Goldendoodle breeder is if they comprehensively test the health and genetics of their dogs. This includes testing for various hereditary diseases such as hip and elbow dysplasia, eye diseases, heart, and thyroid. This will help you get a sense of the living conditions your potential pup is coming from, and whether or not they seem happy and healthy. Also, take note of how the breeder interacts with the dogs — this will give you a good sense of their overall care and concern for their welfare. Several breeders update their testimonials sections on websites, but you can also find reviews on Yelp and other online communities. How Much Does a Goldendoodle Cost? Both of its poodle and golden retriever parent breeds are known for their intelligence and trainability, and Goldendoodles have inherited this breed trait. Much like a poodle, Doodles are sensitive dogs, and positive reinforcement is a must to bring out the best in them. How Obedient Are They? Goldendoodle pups adore human company, and making their pet parents happy brings them genuine satisfaction. As such, correct puppy training produces a highly obedient and loyal adult Goldendoodle. Older adults, people with disabilities and individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders can benefit significantly from the warmth and sweetness of these adorable Goldendoodle pups. Not all mini Goldendoodles are equal, there are a few different versions to choose from each having a little different genetic background based on the pups parents. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. House clearance workers had come across a very emaciated and poorly boxer-type dog on November 5 last year and reported the matter to the RSPCA. Sadly, the dog later died. Inspector Laura Barber has worked as an RSPCA inspector for 15 years and she was horrified by what she saw when she was sent to gather evidence at an address in Grimsby. Days later the body of another dog was found in a freezer. The body of a dead dog was found. During interviews with the man who lived in the property, it transpired that Lacey had spent two years locked in a filthy bedroom covered in fleas and was never let out. Another called Hercules spent months in a cage full of faeces for three months before he perished. A very emaciated and poorly boxer-type dog was found in the property in Grimsby. Photo: RSPCA Inspector Barber then entered an upstairs room piled high with hundreds of dried and crusty excrement and full of rubbish, where she found the decomposing body of a dog. The wall above where the dead dog laid had shed plaster and was down to the wood in parts. A dead lizard was also found. They both had no power to them and there was no food and water present, and the lizards appeared to have been deceased for some time. In the kitchen she found a dog crate which was covered in excrement indicating a dog had been locked in the cage at some point for a considerable amount of time. Inspector Barber took the dead animals away as part of the RSPCA investigation and then she went to visit the emaciated white boxer-type dog who had been rushed to the vets. Lacey was aged about eight years-old and was in very poor health. She was emaciated and crawling with fleas, and had urine stains on her legs from where she had been laid in her own wee. She was so weak she could not stand unaided. Sadly after a few months, due to the previous neglect, her health was deteriorating and as she was in a suffering state, so a vet decided the kindest thing to do was to put her to sleep. Sadly, the years of neglect had taken its toll on her and when it was time to say goodbye the team at Grimsby all gave her a cuddle and many tears were shed. During an interview he admitted to leaving Lacey and Lily locked in separate bedrooms — full of faeces, urine and fleas. He also told how a young dog called Hercules was housed for about three months in a cage in his own filth — and he decided not to feed the reptiles and left them dying a lingering death. The body of Hercules was subsequently found in a freezer at the property. A dog crate was found in the kitchen which as covered in excrement. The man said Lily died from being locked in the other filthy bedroom. Her face was white but looked black with all the fleas covering it and her eyes were yellow. It was full of poo and no way could I get it out. Labradors for rehoming near me. Find and adopt a pet on Petfinder to Labradors for rehoming near me. Find and adopt a pet on Petfinder today. Nevertheless, no matter which parent a Dalmatian German Shepherd Mix puppy takes after, one thing is for sure: he grows up to become a medium- to large-sized dog. However, he might be either leaner or stockier. As for colors, these dogs exhibit several of those, but without any dark spots like their Dalmatian parents. The cross also has darker legs and liver-colored spots all over the chest. The coat is also known for shedding more than average. Coupled with their unrivaled intelligence, they are also physically strong, alert, and lively. This mix loves running or swimming beside its owner. But when not properly exercised, they may also engage in detrimental behaviors like digging up the yard to expend the pent-up energy. The Dalmatian German Shepherd cross is one of the most exciting dog crosses, as they like to play and learn new things throughout their lives. Since they are intelligent and sturdy, they can be trained to serve as watchdogs. The blend is ideal for any circle of relatives. They are wise, love playing with children and different puppies, and are very patient. That said, you will have to teach your kids how to socialize properly with your dog. One downside, however: if left on their own for a long time, Dalmatian German Shepherd Mix becomes problematic. So, make sure you always have time to give him lots of cuddles when needed. Moreover, they thrive best in surroundings where they can sense safety from strangers. However, various sources claim that these canines were first bred in in California. Some sources also claim that the mix is no older than just a decade. Moreover, these canines should get about three cups of high-quality dog food divided into two meals. However, note that if your dog is old and inactive, he should not have more than 2. Furthermore, for a wholesome diet plan for your lovely mixed-breed dog, stick to the following tips: Never feed your dog too many treats. Avoid feeding your dog human food. It can lead to stomach disorders and flatulence. Do keep your vet in the loop while deciding what to feed your dog. Grooming German Shepherd Dalmatian Mix dogs are fluffy dogs, shedding regularly. They are not a desirable option for people with allergies. As these dogs are heavy shedder, they require more frequent grooming sessions to keep their coat in tip-top condition. You should brush your Germatian pup at least once a day. A smooth-tooth comb enables taking off all damaged hair and saves tangles from forming on the sensitive skin of these dogs. Besides brushing, bathing your dog every other month could help maintain coat health and limit the amount of shedding. You should keep in mind that more frequent bathing could rob your pup of its natural bodily oils, which are crucial for the skin and coat health. Moreover, whatever shampoo brand you opt for, make sure it is vet approved. Exercise Dalmatian German Shepherd Mix are high-energy dogs and thus need about two hours of exercise every day. Ensure a nice place in your yard for the dog to walk around frequently. The space should be enough for him to play fetch and other retrieving games easily. By these needs and descriptions, one thing is clear: these dogs are not for apartment dwellers. Since these dogs get intelligence and watchful instincts from their parents, it is vital to keep honing their brainy skills from time to time. Get your dog suitable toys or puzzles to do the job. Nina Ottosson Brick Puzzle Game is an awesome toy to keep your dog alert. With variable difficulty levels, let your dog find the hidden treats. Training Dalmatian German Shepherd Mix dogs are eager to please their owners. Thanks to this attitude, their training sessions go smoothly. Besides, they love to learn new tricks and commands. Despite these plus points, you should never forget proper socialization. Expose your pup right after you bring him home to various sounds and experiences. This will make him adjust well in your home, especially with your family and other pets. Then jump on to teaching him basic commands like come, sit, and stand. If possible, enrolling your puppy in training classes will give some added benefits. Health Dalmatian German Shepherd Mix dogs are overall healthy, but they inherit some diseases from both parents. These diseases can be avoided with proper care and maintaining the exercise and diet plan. Deafness Stones in kidneys and bladder Allergies Dysplasia Note that these problems are more likely to occur in dogs bought from non-reputable breeders. Also, some of these issues can lead to fatal outcomes. Pros The mix is incredibly versatile, with the traits of both Dalmatian and German Shepherds. Easy to train, thanks to their eagerness to please their owners. Very intelligent, alert, and lively, making them perfect guard dogs. Cons Not purebred and hard to find. Prone to the diseases inherited. Needs early and proper socialization. Not for apartment dwellers. Family Integration The German Shepherd Dalmatian mix, also known as the German Shepmatian, is a unique and eye-catching breed that may pique your interest. A puppy of these two breeds combines the robustness of the German Shepherd breed and the friendliness of a Dalmatian parent. When it comes to temperament and behavior, you can expect your German Shepmatian to be an active, trainable dog that thrives with daily exercise and mental stimulation. These dogs often make excellent family pets, possessing the working drive and protective nature of the GSD alongside the playful, sociable nature of the Dalmatian. With its strong, athletic build, this mixed breed can have a variety of coat types — from the short and dense coat of the Dalmatian to the medium double coat of the GSD breed. As for color, you might see the iconic Dalmatian black spots on a German Shepmatian, but it could also inherit the more traditional GSD coat colors. Size When it comes to size, the German Shepherd Dalmatian mix is a medium to large-sized dog with a sturdy structure. Keep in mind that their size and strength could vary depending on the traits inherited from their parent breeds. Height Your German Shepmatian can stand anywhere between 19 48 cm and 26 inches 66 cm tall at the shoulder. This range is due to the varying heights of their parent breeds — a GSD typically stands between 22 53 cm and 26 inches 66 cm , while a Dalmatian can range from 19 48 cm to 26 inches 66 cm in height. Be prepared for a dog that may end up being taller or shorter depending on which parent breed they take after. Weight In terms of weight, you can expect your German Shepherd Dalmatian mix to fall within the range of their parent breeds. This crossbreed will likely weigh between 45 20 kilograms and 80 pounds 36 kilogram , again depending on which traits they inherit. Dalmatian German Shepherd Mix Characteristics and Traits Temperament The German Shepherd and Dalmatian mix is a loyal, active dog with high energy levels, making it a great companion for dog owners with an active lifestyle. They make loving companions, and their temperament reflects the best of both Dalmatians and GSDs. They are friendly, outgoing, and they easily bond with their human family members. Intelligence Typically, German Shepmatians are highly intelligent dogs, which is a trait inherited from both of their parent breeds. Their high level of intelligence makes them easy to train and eager to please. With proper training, your German Shepmatian can learn quickly and be a well-behaved companion. Energy Levels This mix breed is known for its high-energy levels and high activity levels. Therefore, they must have plenty of opportunities for physical and mental stimulation. Because of their size and energy, you might find it challenging to accommodate their needs if you live in a small apartment. A house with a fenced yard would be more suitable for their lifestyle. Exercise Requirements Your active, high-energy German Shepmatian will require daily exercise to maintain their physical health and mental well-being. This can include activities such as: Long walks or runs Fetch or Frisbee games Agility or obedience training Remember to use positive reinforcement during training to encourage good behavior and maintain a strong bond with your dog. This will help them become well-adjusted to different situations, people, and other animals. Regular exposure to new experiences will ensure that your dog remains confident and comfortable in various environments. While Dalmatians were originally bred as coach dogs, GSDs are known for their guarding and protection abilities. Your German Shepmatian mix may inherit these traits, making them a potentially protective family member. However, proper training and socialization can help prevent aggressive or overly protective behavior. This mixed breed may have a lower risk of inheriting certain genetic conditions, but you should still keep an eye out for common medical issues. For instance, your dog may be prone to hip dysplasia, a joint condition that can impact their mobility. Additionally, skin allergies are another concern you should watch out for. Since the Dalmatian breed is known for being susceptible to deafness, you may want to ensure your German Shepherd Dalmatian mix receives regular ear checkups. Kidney diseases and urinary system issues are also potential health concerns, as both parent breeds can be prone to them. Lastly, anxiety could be a problem for your dog, so maintaining a consistent routine and providing lots of mental stimulation can help keep stress levels in check. To ensure your dog has a long and healthy life, be diligent about attending regular vet checkups, providing proper exercise and nutrition, and staying attentive to any signs of health concerns. With proper care and attention, your dog will have a great chance of enjoying a healthy and fulfilling life by your side. These dogs have medium to long coats that require regular brushing to remove dead hair and prevent matting. A fine-toothed comb or a slicker brush will work well for this task. Brush your dog at least once a week, but consider doing it more often during shedding seasons. Diet The diet of your German Shepherd Dalmatian mix plays a crucial role in their overall health and well-being. A well-balanced diet consists of high-quality dog food and plenty of fresh water. Ensure that the dog food you choose is specifically designed for large, active breeds like the German Shepherd and Dalmatian. Overfeeding can lead to obesity and related health problems. Look for high-quality protein sources like chicken, fish, or beef. They also make a great low-calorie treat. Avoid Human Food: While it may be tempting to share your meals with your dog, most human foods are unhealthy for them and can cause digestive issues. If you notice excessive shedding, consider changing their diet to improve their hair health. Aside from diet, ensure your German Shepherd Dalmatian mix receives sufficient exercise and mental stimulation to stay healthy and happy. Regular walks, playtime, and obedience training are all great ways to engage your dog physically and mentally. Training and Socialization Bringing home a German Shepherd Dalmatian mix means that you should start focusing on training and socialization early. These dogs are highly intelligent and energetic, which makes them relatively easy to train, but also demands your time and effort. Training Techniques As with any dog breed, begin by establishing a strong bond and trust with your German Shepherd Dalmatian mix. Use positive reinforcement techniques like treats, praise, and toys for engaging and motivating your pup. Keep training sessions short, consistent, and fun for best results. Interaction with Other Pets Your German Shepherd Dalmatian mix may inherit strong guarding instincts and protective nature from both parent breeds, making it essential to socialize them with other pets early. Introduce your dog to other friendly dogs and animals gradually, under controlled settings. Monitor their interactions until you feel confident they understand how to play and communicate appropriately with other pets. Continue this process throughout their life to ensure they stay well-adjusted and sociable. Family Integration A properly socialized and trained German Shepherd Dalmatian mix can be an excellent family dog, loyal and affectionate to all family members. Encourage every member of your household to participate in the training and care of your dog, reinforcing the bond between them and your pup. Ensure each family member knows the importance of consistency during training to avoid confusion for your dog. When integrating your German Shepherd Dalmatian mix into your family, keep in mind their energetic nature and need for physical activity. Schedule daily exercise, such as walks, jogs, or games of fetch, to keep them mentally and physically stimulated. Moreover, remember their working dog heritage, as engaging in activities like agility or scent detection can tap into their instincts and further deepen your bond with them. David W. I admire German Shepherds. They are magnificent dogs! I have been dealing with dogs, namely German Shepherds, throughout my life. I have been working part-time as a dog trainer and instructor for about 5 years, dealing mainly with German Shepherds. So I know a bit about these animals. Therefore, I decided to share my knowledge and experience about this fantastic breed. If you need help with advice and care tips or want to know more about German Shepherd dogs, welcome to this blog. It is important to note that purebred Dalmatian breeds cannot tolerate high amounts of protein well, but German Shepherds can. This makes it essential to find a balance between the two requirements. This means a certified raw food diet if recommended by a veterinarian nutritionist can be a good source of food for them. Kibble mixes may contain too many carbohydrates that will not be beneficial to their health. Ultimately, too many carbs in the Dalmatian German Shepherd diets can cause digestive issues and is a cause of yeast infections in the German Shepherds. Dalmatian German Shepherd Mix Exercise Dalmatian German Shepherds are extremely intelligent and active dogs that need lots of space to let out their energy. This includes daily walks, a large open-spaced garden, and human interaction through toys such as tug of war. It is common for Dalmatian German Shepherds to go through an energetic period throughout the day where they will around the garden in an attempt to relieve some of their energy. They also enjoy playing chase with other large dog breeds and walks are known to be their favorite time of the day. If you enjoy going on runs yourself, you can even take your Dalmatian German Shepherd with you on a lead to run as well. Many owners who cycle will also tie the lead around the bike and cycle a short distance with this dog breed. As they get older, their activity levels will decrease, and they will sleep for longer periods. Since Dalmatians are prone to obesity and arthritis, it is important to keep them active alongside a healthy diet. They can learn tricks quite easily like lie down, give paw, rollover. There are also many tasks you can teach this dog breed, such as fetching the newspaper or even bringing the ball back after you throw it. Dalmatian German Shepherds rarely acquire behavior issues, but if it is inhibiting your ability to train your dog, then you should call a canine behavioralist to help you with the situation. They have various coat layers and are shed regularly. This makes them undesirable dogs for families with fur allergies or for families that do not want a dog that sheds through every season. This dog breed should be brushed regularly, ideally once a day. They should also be bathed every few months with a gentle shampoo to get rid of dirt and debris that accumulates on their fur. Take care not to bathe them too often as this removes the natural oils their fur needs to remain healthy and shiny. Various coat supplements can contribute to a healthier coat and skin which can help control shedding. A post shared by Jessica Lynn jessikuhlihn Health and Conditions Dalmatian German Shepherds may be strong and sturdy dogs, but this does not limit the number of health conditions they can develop. If kept healthy, this dog breed does not fall ill easily. If your Dalmatian German Shepherd does fall ill, it is crucial to take them to the vet right away. Minor Conditions. It will likely be leaner if it predominantly takes after the Dalmatian parent or stockier if it takes its physique from its GSD parent. Coat Having a Dalmatian parent does not always lead to spotted offspring. A Dalmatian x GSD cross can take after either parent and even puppies from the same litter can appear dramatically different from one another. Pups of this cross can either have the short and dense coat of the Dalmatian or the medium-to-long double coat of the German Shepherd. A cross that takes its coat after the GSD parent will need more frequent bathing and brushing, and will likely blow off their coats twice a year. Their ears will also need more attention if they take after their Dalmatian parent. Unlike the GSD, which has large upright ears, Dalmatians have large floppy ears, which need to be checked frequently and dried thoroughly after every bath. A German Shepherd Dalmatian mix will undoubtedly be strong and athletic. In terms of bite force, the GSD has a pretty serious bite at psi. Speed A Dalmatian-German Shepherd mix will undoubtedly be quick on their feet, especially given the heritage of both parents as working dogs. German Shepherds are already known to be fast runners. German Shepherds run at speeds of approximately 32 miles per hour. However, the leaner bodies of Dalmatians enable them to run even faster at about 37 miles per hour. Apart from speed, you can expect a GSD-Dalmatian cross to have incredible agility and stamina. This makes them potentially good working dogs or companion dogs for active humans. Exercise Requirement Given the energy levels of both its parents, the German Shepherd Dalmatian mix will undoubtedly need plenty of exercise. At least one hour of physical work per day is ideal for these dogs. Additionally, they should have ample space to roam independently so they can build their confidence on their own. The intelligence levels of both the GSD and the Dalmatian also signal that a cross between the two will likely need plenty of mental stimulation. These dogs will thrive with plenty of training and opportunities to work their brains. Otherwise, they could quickly develop some destructive behaviors. Trainability German Shepherds are among the smartest working dog breeds in the world. In fact, it ranks 3rd and shares this tier of intelligence with breeds like the Border Collie, Poodle, Golden Retriever, and Doberman. At this level, dogs are expected to learn new commands in fewer than five tries. At this level, they may take up to 25 repetitions to master a command. No matter which of the two parents a crossbreed will take after, however, it is expected to be highly trainable with a good work ethic and a strong eagerness to please. These dogs are good-natured and adaptable to almost every kind of environment. However, a lot depends on its training and socialization. When properly socialized—ideally during puppyhood—these dogs are not only stable but also playful, loyal, and affectionate. Health Like most large dogs, the Dalmatian-German Shepherd mutt might be prone to hip dysplasia. However, national breed clubs require their breeding stock to be tested for such issues. If both parents of a mutt are from reputable breeders, the crossbreed puppy should be perfectly healthy. Lifespan The lifespan of a German Shepherd-Dalmatian cross is expected to be between 11 to 14 years old, which is based on the typical lifespan of both its parents. Given that mixed breeds are less likely to suffer from certain genetic conditions , however, it is likely that the GSD-Dalmatian mix will live close to the higher end of the range. However, such crosses can still participate in certain AKC-hosted canine competitions, including Obedience, Agility, Rally, and Tracking. How popular is the German Shepherd x Dalmatian mix? That makes the German Shepherd Dalmatian mix pretty rare. It would be difficult to find reputable breeders that specialize in this crossbreed as these pups are often the result of accidental mating. Nevertheless, there are still proponents of the Dalmatian x German Shepherd mix. They believe that purposely crossing the two breeds results in beautiful, healthy, and vibrant dogs. When trained properly, they are also excellent working dogs. Just like the Australian Shepherd and Dutch Shepherd , they tend to be incredibly intelligent and energetic, so, they thrive in households that give them plenty of opportunities for physical exercise and mental stimulation. Bernard German Shepherd mix! Panda, Tan, Sable, Black, White, Spotted, Mottled Suitable for: Active families or individuals looking for strong, energetic working breed dogs Temperament: Intelligent, active, loyal, affectionate, eager to please The German Shepherd Dalmatian Mix is a relatively new designer breed, and its exact origin is unknown. However, we can gain insights into its characteristics by understanding the parent breeds. German Shepherds are renowned for their intelligence, protective nature, and versatility as working dogs. Dalmatians, on the other hand, are recognized for their distinctive coat pattern, elegance, and endurance. By combining these two breeds, breeders aim to create a companion that possesses the best of both worlds. When it comes to physical attributes, the German Shepherd Dalmatian Mix often inherits the athletic build and strong frame of its parent breeds. Their coats can vary, ranging from short to medium in length, and they commonly display the striking black and white spots characteristic of Dalmatians. However, some individuals may exhibit a blend of colors or patterns, showcasing the unpredictability of crossbreeding. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. While they may not be as prevalent as purebred German Shepherds or Dalmatians, these crossbreeds can be found through reputable breeders or adoption centers. Remember to conduct thorough research and select a responsible breeder who prioritizes the health and well-being of their dogs. Welcoming a German Shepherd Dalmatian Mix puppy into your home requires careful preparation. These energetic and intelligent pups thrive in environments that provide mental and physical stimulation. Providing a dedicated space, ample exercise opportunities, and proper socialization from an early age are key factors in raising a happy and well-adjusted dog. They are known for their loyalty, protectiveness, and intelligence. These dogs form strong bonds with their families and are often considered excellent guard dogs. With their keen sense of awareness, they possess a natural instinct to protect their loved ones and their territory. Their intelligence, coupled with a willingness to please, makes them highly trainable. They excel in obedience training, and with proper guidance, they can learn an impressive array of commands and tasks. Mental stimulation is crucial for these intelligent breeds to prevent boredom and destructive behavior. Engaging them in activities such as puzzle toys, obedience training, and agility courses will help keep their minds sharp and focused. Are These Dogs Good for Families? Their loyalty and affectionate nature make them excellent companions, especially for households with children. Their protective instincts can manifest in a gentle and watchful manner, making them excellent playmates and guardians for children. Although these dogs are generally good with children, proper supervision is still important to prevent any unwanted accidents when interacting with children. Early socialization and training is also still necessary, as with any dog, to ensure a harmonious relationship between the dog and the child. The compatibility of the German Shepherd Dalmatian Mix with other pets largely depends on their socialization and upbringing. With proper introductions and early exposure to other animals, they can live harmoniously with cats, other dogs, and small pets. Early socialization is crucial to prevent any potential dominance or aggression issues. Supervised interactions, positive reinforcement, and gradual introductions can help foster a peaceful coexistence between the German Shepherd Dalmatian Mix and other pets in the household! Providing high-quality dog food that is appropriate for their age, size, and activity level is crucial. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the optimal diet for your specific dog. It is important to note that the dietary requirements of each individual may vary. Factors such as age, activity level, metabolism, and any existing health conditions should be considered when determining portion sizes and frequency of meals. Regular monitoring of their weight and adjustment of their diet as necessary will help maintain their optimal body condition. Daily physical activity is essential to prevent boredom, destructive behaviors, and potential weight gain. Engaging in activities such as long walks, runs, fetch, and obedience training sessions will help them burn off excess energy. Mental stimulation is equally important, so consider incorporating puzzle toys, scent work, or obedience exercises into their routine. Providing them with a sense of purpose and a job to do will help channel their intelligence and energy in a positive direction. With their intelligence and willingness to please, they are highly trainable and enjoy the mental challenge that training provides. Early socialization and obedience training are particularly important to shape their behavior and ensure they grow into well-mannered adults. Positive reinforcement methods , such as rewards and praise, work best with this breed. They respond well to consistent training techniques and thrive in environments where boundaries and expectations are clearly defined. Enrolling in puppy classes or working with a professional dog trainer can be highly beneficial for both you and your dog. If they inherit the coat of the German Shepherd, regular brushing will help keep their coat in good condition and minimize shedding. If they inherit the coat of the Dalmatian, more frequent brushing may be necessary to prevent matting and tangling. Regular nail trims, ear cleaning, and dental care are important aspects of their grooming routine. It is also recommended to establish a dental hygiene regimen, such as regular tooth brushing, to maintain their oral health. Minor Conditions. Positive reinforcement is used to discipline and train these dogs because of how sensitive they can be. A German Shepherd Dalmatian Mix responsiveness depends in large part on whether or not it was properly socialized as a puppy; this means interacting with different people and animals during childhood development which builds psychological stability for life. Its tail is also medium-sized and may be thick or slim, depending on your preference in terms of style. This is a breed with an assortment of coat colors and shedding. With both short or medium coats, you can have black-colored dogs that will shed just as much as their longer-haired counterparts. However, this breed may possess liver spots across their chests while others might be covered entirely by dark fur instead. The markings on this dog are more distinguishable and are even inside its mouth. If you want to have the best of both worlds, then a German shepherd crossed with a dalmatian might be your perfect match. Fortunately, for you though they have a variety in their coats. They stand around inches tall when standing on their hind legs and they can range from small dogs less than 40lbs up to large sizes depending on many factors like diet choices. They have an average life expectancy of around years long when cared for properly which makes these adorable creatures perfect as family pets. This high-energy dog can be loyal, alert, and energetic with an unmatched intelligence level. It loves running or swimming beside its owner. In addition, it will love engaging in destructive behaviors like digging up your yard if not exercised enough. With such high energy levels that are matched only by its loyalty towards humankind. The German Shepherd Dalmatian Mix is perfect for any family. It will thrive in a kind environment where it can feel safe from strangers with open paws. If you are looking for even-tempered dogs that will thrive in an environment where kindness reigns supreme then look no further than German Shepherd Dalmatian Mix who has been bred specifically just like us: loyal kiddos full of intelligence waiting patiently on your every command. Daily brushing will help keep up a healthy coat, but even more so bathing sessions should be kept at around three per year because frequent bathing can lead to excessively dry skin that may result in allergies for some dog owners who are sensitive about this issue. Both are European dog breeds, with the Dalmatian being an older breed by a few centuries. It may even have been a result of an accidental mating. The History of the Dalmatian The history of the Dalmatian is thought to stretch back to the 14th century, with the first written account of the Dalmatian coming in , when a Slovenian Bishop mentioned a spotted hunting dog from the Croatian region of Dalmatia in his writings. Later paintings and documented descriptions of the Dalmatian stretch back to the 17th and 18th centuries. It was referred to as Dalmatian in by Thomas Pennant, a Welsh naturalist and travel writer. As time wore on and society became more egalitarian, Dalmatians found themselves used in different roles, primarily as working dogs — either war dogs during the First and Second World Wars or as firefighting dogs — escorting firefighting apparatus. They are also competent hunting dogs due to their energy levels. Much of their early American history is as fire station mascots, although they are now firmly beloved family pets. Dalmatians in the United States began their time in North America as firehouse dogs and hunting companions due to their high capacity for intense physical exercise. However, the Dalmatian has since transitioned from a working dog to a firm family companion. They sometimes suffer from separation anxiety, which can lead to destructive behaviors. Dalmatians typically do better with experienced dog owners and are not recommended for the elderly due to their size and exercise requirements. How Did Dalmatians Come About? However, we do have first-hand accounts from a Slovenian bishop — Peter — that tells of a black and white-haired dog with spots on its body that he observed in the Dalmatia region of Croatia. We also have illustrations from the 17th century that provide a picture of the Dalmatian, but there is not much by way of cynological history to go on. The history of crossbreeding of the Dalmatian is more elusive than the history of the Dalmatian itself! But the when, where, how, why and by whom remains elusive. Crossbreeding dogs in the United States became very popular in the s and early s, having been introduced into the canine culture of the country in the s. The Dalmatian and its various mixed-breed offspring were likely bred during that time. A German man, ex-cavalry Captain Max von Stephanitz, first purchased it. Stephanitz was a former German cavalry officer, a farmer, and a former veterinary college student. Captain von Stephanitz needed a highly intelligent breed that could do tireless physical activity for his farmland. While at a dog show, on the hunt for the perfect breed, he noticed a dog that he thought would fit the mold. Thirty years later, the Society for German Shepherd dogs had more than 50, members. The modern history of the German Shepherd maintains its workhorse nature, as the GSD has been used routinely in military and police functions, owing much of that to its size and strength and its notoriety as a highly intelligent breed. German Shepherds are among the most popular dog breeds in the United States, ranking in most popular dog breeds in the United States, routinely ranking inside the top ten. Because of their need for moderate daily exercise, the GSD is often viewed as one of the best family dogs if the family is active. German Shepherds are also natural guardians — like their Dalmatian mix — another notch in the column for the perfect family pet. The German Shepherd was first called Horand von Grafath and was purchased by Max von Stephanitz from a dog show in .German Shepherds are often bred to breed standards, and crossbreeding of GSDs is far less prevalent in Europe than in the United States. However, German Shepherd crossbreeds do happen, like the German Shepmatian. One of the most important parts of owning a dog is researching beforehand. Part of this research into your new potential dog will be its temperament. Like the Dalmatian puppy, active puppies and dogs will require an active, outdoorsy family with plenty of room to grow as they mature. The German Shepmatian will likely adopt different parts of the temperament of its parent breeds — including some negative traits, such as separation anxiety and possible aggression if not adequately socialized — commonly found in German Shepherds. You can expect your Dalmatian German Shepherd mix to have a highly energetic temperament, possibly with a high prey drive. Still, they generally make excellent family pets if properly trained and socialized from an early age. German Shepmatians are known to be wonderfully friendly animals, with both parent breeds being friendly dogs, producing an even-tempered mixed breed. As individual breeds, the Dalmatian and the German Shepherd are very used to intensive training and command-following, so you can expect your German Shepmatian to be equally easy to train. Be aware that until adequately trained , your German Shepherd Dalmatian mix may exhibit some destructive behaviors associated with separation anxiety. However, German Shepherds and Dalmatians are incredibly intelligent breeds, so they should pick up on training quickly. The average weight of a German Shepmatian is 60 to 80 pounds. The average height of a Dalmatian German Shepherd mix is between 22 and 26 inches tall. Similar Sized Breeds The German Shepherd Dalmatian mix is a large breed similar in size to a few different, including both their parent breeds. You can expect your Dalmatian German Shepherd mix to be a heavy-shedding dog. Dalmatians are single-coated dogs and shed moderately, while German Shepherds have two coats and shed heavily. Regarding exercise, the Dalmatian German Shepherd mix is among the most energetic dogs. The Dalmatian German Shepherd mix requires at least 45 minutes of exercise each day, including at least one day of off-leash running, fetching, or hiking on the weekends. It helps maintain a healthy weight, along with various other health benefits. The life expectancy of a Shepherd Dalmatian is between 10 and 12 years. The spots are brown or black in color and can be solid or broken into patches. Dalmatian The Dalmatian is generally friendly toward people and other dogs but may also be reserved around strangers until they establish that they are not a threat. It is playful enough to enjoy running around with children but does not require excessive exercise or attention from its owner. Overall, this breed tends to be quiet indoors because of its sensitive nature; however, it does bark if someone approaches their home unexpectedly or tries to enter through an open door or window without knocking first which could result in injury. The breed was developed by crossing the Dalmatian with a registered German Shepherd dog. These dogs are known for their loyalty and intelligence, as well as their high energy level and athleticism. They can be trained to perform tasks like police work, search and rescue operations, therapy work, and tracking prey. They have a strong desire to please their master, so obedience training is necessary for this breed. They are intelligent and can learn tricks quickly, so you can teach them simple commands like sit and stay. They do well with children, but should be watched carefully when around small children because they are known to jump up on children without warning. They may also exhibit aggressive behavior towards other animals, including other dogs. They have a high exercise requirement because of their large size; they need daily walks daily to help keep them healthy and fit. This dogs are not recommended for apartment living or houses with small yards because they are not good at walking on hard surfaces such as sidewalks or curbs in search of food or water sources outside the house where they could get lost easily if left outside alone at any time during the day unless kept indoors at night. Barking Levels Barking can be a problem, especially if your dog is a guard dog. This breed is known for its high intelligence and they will often bark if they see someone or something strange. There are a few things that you can do to help reduce this behavior. First, make sure that your dog gets plenty of exercise every day and that you take it on long walks at least once a day. Make sure that you follow the directions for training your dog and make sure that you are consistent with them. If you are having trouble with this behavior, try using positive reinforcement techniques like praise or treats when they bark. Skin conditions Dalmatian German Shepherds have a lot of skin folds that can be prone to infections and yeast infections. These dogs need to be on a regular flea treatment, as well as heartworm-preventative medication. The hair of this breed is short, and they have a thick double coat. This means that they have a lot of hair that can trap dirt and moisture in their coat. When the dog gets hot or wet, this will cause an increase in bacteria growth inside their skin pores. Hip dysplasia Hip dysplasia is a genetic disorder that affects the hip joints and causes the dog to walk with a limp. Hip dysplasia can be caused by genetics or by environmental factors such as diet or exercise. There are several factors that may contribute to this condition. For example, genetics may play a role in how much you gain or lose weight, as well as how quickly you put on or lose weight. Environmental factors such as diet and exercise also have an impact on your body mass index BMI. Petra arrived at the kennels in Warrington when she was just a puppy and she has remained there since May .The cute pet, who is said to love chasing tennis balls, has now spent a staggering days in kennels. Until now, staff at the RSPCA kennels have been unable to try to find her a forever home due to court proceedings but now they've finally been given the go-ahead, the Liverpool ECHO reports. The three-year-old has spent limited time living inside a house and will make a "wonderful companion" for owners who have experience of large breeds and nervous dogs. If you find Petra, there will be a tennis ball - or ten - in sight, which is why we feel an activity like fly ball would really suit her. Even though she has her fears, the amount of love she has to give is endless. Centre staff have also been getting her used to travelling in a car. Her new owners will be given support and guidance to help with this. The centre is looking for an adult-only home with no other animals for her, ideally with people who have had experience of large breeds and dogs of a nervous disposition. Previous owners of German Shepherds would be a bonus. She will also need a garden to run around in - a rural and quiet location would be ideal. Mypetzilla forbids third-party selling of puppies. All puppies advertised must have been bred by the advertiser. If the advertiser asks for money, or deposit to be paid online without you visiting the dog at their home, or they request to meet you somewhere or drop the dog off at yours, then please DO NOT agree. Vaccinations must be up to date Check the puppy or dog is up-to-date with their vaccinations. All puppies should have received 2 vaccinations. The first vaccination should be given between weeks of age and the 2nd vaccination should be given no more than 2 weeks later when the puppy has reached the age of weeks. Older dogs may also need booster vaccinations and this is normally recommended by the vet. It's important that you check with the seller what vaccinations the puppy or dog has had. It's worth noting that puppies should have had their first vaccination before they leave their mother. If the seller has not provided a vaccination plan, then it will be your responsibility to make sure you arrange both vaccinations 7 days before letting your puppy go outside. Check the puppies have had their treatment for worms and fleas It is recommended that all puppies should be wormed at the age of 2 weeks and then receive another treatment at the age of 5 weeks old. Before the puppy leaves the seller, they should have had more worming treatment at 8 to 12 weeks of age. At the age of 7 he still loves to romp and play like a puppy, but once inside he's a complete couch potato! It is a cross between the Shetland Sheepdog and the German Shepherd. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. She weighs about 60 lbs. She is the friendliest dog I ever met and loves everyone; she is great with young children and even newborns. She never growls and only barks at squirrels or other animals that are around when she is in the backyard, she never bites. She loves to play with other dogs and is very good with cats. She is pretty hyper and needs to run around a lot, but once she gets out her energy she is calm and just wants to sit or lie down next to you and be petted. She is super smart and learned all her commands and even some tricks within the first months I had her; she learnt her name the same day I got her. She loves winter and playing in the snow. If a Shetland Sheepdog Mix takes after their Sheltie parent, they will be a small, fluffy dog with a charming, affectionate personality. These dogs tend to be energetic, playful, and a good addition to a family. Shelties tend to be loving, affectionate, and intelligent dogs that get along well with children, other pets, and other dogs. They tend to alert bark and are initially reserved towards strangers, but tend to warm up once introduced as long as they have been properly socialized. If the other parent breed is similar, then you can expect the same from a Sheltie Mix. You can also meet the mother in person to see what her temperament is like and the behavior she is modeling for her puppies. The breeder should have started some socialization and training, but it is up to you to continue to train and socialize a puppy once you get them home. The Shetland Sheepdog is a highly adaptable dog breed that can do well in homes with fenced yards as well as apartments. They are sensitive to heat and extreme cold, but do well in most moderate climates. Because they thrive on attention from their families and get bored easily, they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. If the other parent breed is also highly adaptable, then you should be able to expect the same from a Shetland Sheepdog Mix. The other parent breed will introduce their own potential quirks, so you do want to talk to the breeder about them. Are mixed-breed dogs healthier than purebred dogs? Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies, so make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. Shelties are intelligent and sensitive dogs that pick up on things quickly and are eager to please. They tend to be a good fit for owners of all experience levels. If the other dog breed is also highly trainable, then you can expect the same from a Sheltie Mix. Not only do they reinforce training, but they also offer opportunities to socialize your Sheltie Mix with other dogs, other people, and new situations. A Sheltie Mix can inherit a coat similar to one of their parent breeds or a coat that is truly a mix of both. If they take after their Sheltie parent, their coat will shed year-round and shed heavier during seasonal shifts. Daily brushing and the occasional bath are recommended to keep a Sheltie coat healthy. Cutting nails once or twice a month keeps them from growing too long. Weekly ear checks and careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. Daily tooth brushing plus cleanings at the vet when needed is a good start for dental care. Shetland Sheepdogs are energetic and playful, but they are not high-energy dogs. They tend to sit in a more moderate range and daily walks plus playtime and time to run are usually enough for them. They are athletic dogs that enjoy being active with you, so they will likely be up for more if you are. If the other parent breed is similar, then you can expect a Sheltie Mix to sit in a moderate activity range as well. If the other parent is a high-energy breed, then you will need to be prepared for the potential of a high-energy dog. Fully-grown Shelties usually stand inches tall at the shoulder and weigh pounds. The other parent breed can have a big effect on this, especially if they are the mother, so you need to talk to the breeder about them. Shelties generally live for years on average. The other parent breed may affect this slightly, but you should be able to expect a similar average life span from a Sheltie Mix. Sheltie Mix Puppies for Sale. These intelligent dogs love playing as much as they work, but can also help if you have a need for herding! The beautiful hybrids are known for being friendly towards both people and dogs alike making it easy to go around town while still offering protection when necessary. German Shepherd Sheltie Mix is known for their unafraid personality and inquisitive nature, but it can also be a little bit more sensitive than other breeds. They need attention like any pup in order to feel happy. The German Shepherd Sheltie Mix is a great family dog. Socializing your breed is a good idea; it will make for an enjoyable relationship in the future. Make sure that you always use positive reinforcement and enjoy being with them while they are still young. They were bred to work with sheep, but have been known for their ability in other types of animal husbandry as well such as cattle or horses if needed so. These adorable charming hybrids come in many more variations than you might expect — so much variety. Their muzzle length varies depending on the desired look: long Mops preferred for show purposes typically possess droopy jowls while working dogs may sport tighter jaws. Average life span or age is calculated from 14 years. This breed can be social and loves playing with other pets or children but should always have supervision since they are so intelligent. Be patient when training them as not all will learn easily though some may need more time than others — just wait till you see how fast these dogs learn once again. German Shepherd Sheltie Mix are active and adventurous, but a regular amount of exercise is one of their regular routines. They are happiest with owners who provide plenty of room for playtime in addition to daily walks or runs around the block. These pups thrive when you take them on adventures that both excite their mind obedience competitions! The German Shepherd Sheltie Mix may be one breed athlete who excels at all three: having gained popularity largely thanks to its versatility — it can easily adjust from city living where he needs just enough activity per day without being too overworked; into country territory requiring more. Keep your energetic dog busy with long-distance walks and hiking to keep him from becoming destructive. This mix of exercise will help you avoid tiring out quickly, which can be bad for both his health as well as yours. A tired dog is always better behaved compared to one who has been running around nonstop. The Sheltie requires a bath barely once in a while. They have an eagerness to please their owners, making them a great candidate for obedience training courses or canine sports such as agility where they can excel in competitions against other dogs with no qualms about barking when they feel happy enough. A well-fenced yard with regular walks around town makes up part of our expected routine life. This is the type of dog that will want to take control. They are intelligent and need someone with firm leadership skills, but can be trained if you break up training sessions into shorter ones daily or each day for half an hour at a time so their attention span stays higher than theirs. If handled correctly, German Shepherd Sheltie Mix should get along just fine in terms of prey drive too since they love chasing small game like rabbits while outdoors running around chasing bugs…but make sure not let them go outside without supervision first because some might have more intense instincts when it comes down to protecting themselves from threats. To make sure your dog has the best chance for success, take her to as many different places and meet new humans. Take them out on walks with you or let other dogs jump around at doggy daycare. They are intelligent, curious, and enthusiastic about life which makes them perfect for a family that wants an active pet with a personality. Though tests for many genetic disorders exist, breeders should still conduct a minimum health test on their breeding stock. Some of these dogs love to play as much or more than they do go to the office. Post navigation.

golden retriever puppies santa fe nm - Life Span Did You Know? Although the Poodle is the national dog of France, they actually originated in Germany over years ago where they were commonly used as a duck hunter. Their curly coat protected them from the elements and they were bred for their excellent swimming skills, high intelligence, and incredible retrieval skills. The Poodle comes in three sizes — Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Throughout history, this dog breed has served many purposes. From living in the lap of luxury as companions to nobility to working out in the field as a valuable hunting companion to entertaining people in circuses around the world, the Poodle is right at home. Although they are more popular as a companion dog, the Poodle still maintains their athleticism and working dog instincts. Poodles are known for their intelligence, cheerful disposition, and sensitive nature. They are versatile dogs that make great family companions. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Due to their sensitive nature, they tend to be a better fit for older children who understand how to approach and interact with a dog appropriately. These dogs prefer peace and harmony in the household, so very young children that are too loud or rough can stress them out. The Standard Poodle also tends to be quite energetic until they are about two years old and may be prone to knock over small children in their excitement. Standard Poodles also tend to make great watchdogs and have some protective instincts. Without proper socialization, they can become skittish, nervous, and wary of strangers. Making sure any puppy is socialized early and often helps them grow into a confident, well-rounded dog. Standard Poodles are highly adaptable dogs. Their energy level tends to make them better-suited for larger homes with room for them to run. But, they can adapt well to apartment living as long as they receive the exercise, mental stimulation, and affection that they need. They tend to do well in most climates. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to very hot and very cold weather. These dogs are in-tune with their owners and thrive on human companionship and affection, so they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. Poodles are a relatively healthy dog breed, but there are some potential health concerns to be aware of. Because of their larger, barrel-chested body type, the Standard Poodle is also at risk for bloat. Responsible breeders will screen and test their stock to ensure the genetic propensity for breed-related conditions is not passed along to the puppies. Poodles are highly intelligent, sensitive, and eager to please their owners. They are highly trainable, pick up things quickly, and are a good fit for owners of any experience level. Because they are sensitive and in-tune with their owners, they respond best to consistent, positive training techniques focused on rewards and praise. Poodle coats are curly or corded and come in a wide variety of colors. Although Poodles are known for their low-shedding, hypoallergenic coats, their coats still require a lot of maintenance. Keeping your Poodle in a short clip can help reduce daily maintenance, but still requires regular professional grooming every four to six weeks to maintain it. A longer coat requires daily brushing in order to prevent matting in addition to professional grooming every four to six weeks. A Standard Poodle puppy for sale will require regular grooming regardless of which type of cut you choose. Standard Poodle puppies have hypoallergenic hair instead of fur that grows just like a human's hair, so that is why they require regular cuts. It's important to keep up with regular brushing to prevent mats and tangles. Why Pawrade? Finding a reputable breeder has never been easier Ready to find your perfect Standard Poodle?
