Well, due to Google, we actually have one in Turkey, so, pretty far away! As a Golden Retriever breeder, we adopt out a few great pups that we have been able to find some great families for. We have been fortunate to have some great golden adults. They have heritage links to some great well know kennels such as Liberty Kennels from which President Ford's golden came from; Gold Rush Kennels with their english creams and whose owner R. Ann Johnson published a well researched textbook on golden pups; and, also from Golden Glen Kennels that were well know for their dark goldens for their obedience and hunting. These are all our dogs - our pets first and foremost! We have been fortunate in gaining many referrals from past adoptees, as well as some of those getting 2nd, even 3rd, pups for themselves! We greatly appreciate our adoptees - past, present, and future. Our children participate in the breeding a little more each year! These are the darker to dark red goldens that we started breeding with and come from great lineage both from "Liberty Kennels" back east from which came President Fords dog; and, "Golden Glen Kennels" with a long history of hunting and obedience backgrounds. This is a combination of the two above and produces some great pups in a range of medium light English Cream Golden to a medium to light medium dark "mocha" coloring. We have chosen not to breed the "average" golden that tends to be the light medium to medium in coloring with a fairly long coat. This is what the AKC considers the "standard of the breed". You will see these around, but mostly you will see them at a dog show; and, are the only range of Goldens you'll see shown. These average goldens have been way over bred, including a fair amount of "inbreeding", and they tend to have the most health problems due to this. There are some very beautiful dogs in this category, but by far we feel you will find the most beautiful, distinctive dogs with predictable great temperaments and health within the English Creams and darker Goldens. Our personal favorites are the very dark goldens, though hard to find. They specialized in the very dark goldens for hunting and obedience trials. Unfortunately these two ends of the spectrum do have their own caveats. The English Creams are fast becoming over bred with claims of grandiose backgrounds, rampant breeding of so-called "English Creams" "specially imported" from some country by a breeder, and they don't look much like a golden, and come with arbitrary high prices. With the darker Goldens, especially the darker red's, they are in a sense being hi-jacked by seemingly elite hunting breeders, generally requiring you to only use the dog for hunting activities a "working dog" ; and, subsequently, the "Golden community" is starting to lose these dogs that make fantastic intelligent companions and they also make great "help" dogs for people. Several of our darker Goldens have gone this route, as well as for hunting. This is not to say that the English Creams aren't good for this, as well! Most of our dogs, and the pups produced, have what we call a "long flat silky coat" that tends to be easier to care for than the very thick haired show golden and with generally less shedding. The English Cream Goldens tend to be somewhat fluffier and shed a bit more, while the darker goldens tend to maintain the flatter silky coat with less shedding. All our adults have good health backgrounds with their parents or grandparents, and farther back, having lots of OFA and CERF certifications for eyes, hearts, elbows, hips; though we go more by our health history because "certifications" tend to imply to many a level of "perfection" and unfortunately these are living beings, essentially just like us humans - see our health page for more health info. The darker Goldens tend to have a penchant toward hunting senses and abilities, though pups from all parents have been used for hunting. Some people favor the lighter, english cream goldens for their somewhat more mellow temperament, and somewhat lower energy level. However, be careful of seeking "mellow".This is especially true with a golden. We've never met or heard of a true golden retriever that doesn't have an inherent mellow temperament and that wants to bond with THEIR human. All our adults and pups, light to dark, have primarily the boxy heads with shorter snouts, though some have a somewhat longer snout. They all have wonderful traits of mellow dispositions, eager to please, and are "easily" obedience trained. We do provide the "one word" commands on our website, so you can start right away, but it does take comittment. The pups are socialized and surrounded by their siblings and mother and other dogs and all of our family 3 children, carefully monitored as well as visitors. Pups generally are released to their new homes around 8 weeks old. We do not recommend getting them much later, as the sooner they are with you, the sooner, and better, they will bond with you, instead of us or their siblings or parents. The ideal bonding time is from weeks old and gradually decreases at around 12 weeks of age; however, you will not find a golden that won't bond with a human at any age! If you live alone, have family and work commitments, and spend periods outside the home away from your dog then I recommend you have a pair to keep each other company. Do French Bulldogs get lonely? French Bulldogs do get lonely. He will be excited at first, but then then for about an hour he will tend to mope about. But the bottom line is, Frenchies are social companion dogs, and do get very lonely. Just another reason why French bulldog need a companion in the form a second dog. There are a lot of factors you need to consider before buying a second dog. Her and Claude get on like a house on fire for the majority of the time apart from when around food which I will come onto in a moment. But it might not always be that way. When you introduce a second French Bulldog into your home, you need to make sure that you initially take things very slow. Make sure that the first meeting between the two takes place on neutral ground on a long walk away from the home. You might have to give them both their own space if you feel there is the potential for aggressive behaviour. Resource guarding: this can apply to their bed, their owners, and almost always the food. Frenchies can be very protective of these aspects so all are a potential flashpoint. Look out for raised hackles, teeth-baring, and ears back. Continue to take it slow: above all, continue to take things slow. Some dogs will become stressed when a new rival turns up in the home so continue to take the introduction slow over the first 7 days. Naturally the puppy was inquisitive towards our cat, but a few hisses and swipes later, the puppy knew her place. We made sure to keep our cats food and bed up high so she had her own space to get away from the excitable pair of French Bulldogs. Occasional aggression Whilst most of the time the play between the pair of Frenchies was good-natured, there did come certain points where Claude had had enough. The main flashpoint we found though was around food. This led to teeth showing, growling, and aggression. We had to closely monitor this as the puppy was still being fed three times a day see feeding schedule we kept feeding areas separate sometimes. Be prepared to have the occasional aggression between the two, particularly in the first couple of weeks as they start to learn the boundaries between each other. Jealousy One of the funniest aspects we found when having 2 French Bulldogs in our home was jealousy. We found that Claude would get jealous and try to squeeze his way between my wife and the puppy. Food, insurance, and vet bills We were able to give the puppy back at the end of her 10 day stay, but if we did decide to own a pair of Frenchies, the food and vet bills will of course, double. Poop and pee Talking of doubling-up… the dreaded poop and pee scenario. And that was on top of the poop that Claude was leaving in his fenced off garden area. I think this is the worst part about getting a second French Bulldog. I can cope well with pretty much the rest, but the double amount of poop did start to get quite frustrating. Copying negative traits We like to think we have Claude quite well trained. But once the puppy was in our house, they teamed up to become monsters! I am being a little tongue in cheek here, but genuinely, they wrecked our garden. Claude is usually just an occasional digger. I had to stop them digging holes in the lawn countless times. I can only assume that whilst French bulldogs are good in pairs in the main, they will act as tag team to possibly do more naughty things. Either way, it was quite annoying! Conclusion When the puppy finally left us to go back to her owners, Claude did act a little lonely and sad looking for about 2 days. My wife and I were wracked with guilt, so spent lots of time giving him attention to try and take his mind off things. We are now seriously considering getting a second Frenchie to act as a companion for Claude. Many of our clients who raise a wonderful French Bulldog soon realize they want to adopt a sister or a brother. Easier to socialize the second puppy When adopting the second puppy, pick one who is younger than six months, as your first Frenchie will accept him or her quicker. Frenchies usually get on well with other puppies, but they have their personality, and two dominant types can end up fighting a lot. They will not feel alone when you are not there with them. Two dogs can also provide each other with an extra layer of protection. If one dog is feeling nervous or scared, they can rely on their sibling to comfort them or help keep them safe. And if your dogs have a habit of getting into trouble like chewing on your shoes then having two dogs will give them someone else to blame for the messes! Easier Training French bulldogs are social animals, and they learn by observing other dogs. So if you have two dogs, they may be able to learn from each other and be easier to train than one dog could be on its own. However, it depends. But if you want different things out of each dog—then it might be more complicated. Well, if you have two French bulldogs, then they are always there to give each other company. This can become an issue with just one dog in the house—but the situation will be different when there are two. Your pups will keep themselves occupied with their games and activities. How cute is that? If they have a sleeping buddy they will stay warm because of their natural heat and they will not run into your bed. Although it looks like a shark it is very comfortable and warm and your pups will love it. Make sure to get separate for each of your pups. Things To Consider Before Getting Second Frenchie If you have the time, money, and commitment to care for a dog, then getting a second one is a great idea. Having two dogs is fun and interesting, but it comes with its own set of responsibilities. You need to make sure that each dog gets enough attention and exercise. Sometimes they can be very friendly with each other, but other times they can fight over resources like toys or food bowls. If this happens often enough then it could be dangerous for both dogs! Conclusion If you love French bulldogs, then one is great. But two is better. According to the study, the benefits for your lifestyle seem to increase exponentially with each additional canine. If you are thinking of the second one, two is better; it also makes sense for large homes and families who love dogs. Two Frenchies are more than worth it if you can swing it. Falling in love with your first French Bulldog can often lead to well… another one. These little members of the family can be equal parts hilarious and adorable — having two could only be twice as nice and double the joy. Not so fast- slow your roll! There are a few things to consider before having two French Bulldogs in your family. This means the elder Frenchie should already have experienced basic training. They will follow suit of your elder dog in both good habits as well as not so desirable ones. If your first French Bulldog needs a tune-up with their training, I recommend you prioritize that, so you set both yourself and your new French Bulldog puppy up for success. When a pack leader is not home, your dog can develop separation anxiety and build up a lot of pent-up energy. Being at home with nothing to do can lead to undesirable behavior even with dogs that have relatively low energy levels like French Bulldogs. French Bulldogs especially are very sensitive breeds and cannot be left alone as long as other dogs not to mention their teeny tiny bladders. As dog owners know, it takes commitment and repetition for a responsible dog owner to fully get your dog out of puppyhood. Assess your current lifestyle and living arrangement. Does owning a second Frenchie fit into the mix? Will you be able to handle the added responsibility of taking care of two Frenchies? After all, we know they can be a high-maintenance breed. Financial practicality. Remember the adjustment period you had when you brought home your first dog? Now triple it. There are known costs like food, veterinarian visits, and toys, but you must always be ready for unknown expenses. Even if you have insurance which I highly recommend!
