How We Raise Our Puppies There are always three experienced adults working full time raising our puppies a husband, wife, and adult daughter. If we should have more than two litters that overlap, our other adult daughter will also help. When puppies are here, they are our priority. Everything else in our lives takes a back seat to the puppies so we can work full time around the clock doing puppy work. Our home is large enough for all puppies to be raised inside our home. We have five doggy doors to five different puppy play yards where puppies over 5 weeks freely live coming in and out of our home. We have almost a dozen fenced areas, and a total of nine acres fenced for our dogs and puppies. By far, most that try to earn it fail. Tara and Karen earned the required points in less than a year and a half including time off for Tara to whelp and raise a litter of puppies and for Karen to raise and train dozens of other puppies. There were less than 70 dogs to earn it nationwide in .Karen has also recently won Combined High in Trial on the last day of the Southeastern regional competition. There are eleven regions in the U. The regional competitions are where the best competitors in the country compete to earn invitations to the National Obedience Competition the NOC. The NOC is the most prestigious obedience event in the country. Each region hosts only one regional competition a year and the NOC happens only once a year as well. Ever since i brought him he was extremely cow hocked and whenever he walks or stands his rear toes keep pointing out especially when reaching out. Some puppies do have some degree of cow hock and do grow out of it. Others do NOT grow out of it. Sometimes it is really bones and other times more ligamentous issues that will correct. Yes, in the strict sense of the word, if the dog is full grown and being shown and he is still very cow hocked, it would detract from his rating. Some dogs have a small degree and yes, while noted, it does not detract if all things otherwise are in order. I would not worry about it at this time. Feed him a quality food, give him only appropriate exercise for his age, keep him lean, be careful about supplements, and let him grow. There is no evidence that Vitamin C does squat in dogs, just like in humans. Same for the supplements of glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate. The evidence is anecdotal. I personally never use supplements in dogs unless their is a specific condition and a specific remedy, such as dogs who have EPI conditions. Good luck. My daughter has a showline with cowhocks, actually to look at her in the front and the back, you would think she is a mess, she has the the best hips and elbows of any Gsd I have ever seen even the vet said the best she had ever seen. She has a front leg that looks like she twists it when she runs, yet her prelims looked like text book prefection. There is no relationship whatsoever so just ignore those comments, if you want go ahead and do a prelim, but not because he is cow-hocked. We mentioned this problem to our vet and he recommended that we should take x-rays of his hips to determine the extent of his problem. He said that he had grown too fast going from 21 lbs to 46 lbs in six weeks. He told us that it would be best to cut back on his food so that he did not grow too fast. When we got home, we called the breeder who imported Hans. She said that it is normal for german shepherd puppies to have cow hock when they are young. She said that they out grow that by the time they are a year old. She said that we should wait a while to have Hans xray'd because it was not a good idea to knock him at such a young age. She said for us to bring him back to her to have her take a look at him. Based on all this info we decided to wait and see what would happen with time. Today was Hans first obedience training class. When the trainer saw Hans, he commented that this was one of the worst cow hock he has seen. He also said that his back appeared to look very weak.
