My beagle got out of the yard and went for a run in the woods all day. The next day I put this collar on him and then one day later took him to the vet. He was dropping little small ticks all over the vets office. His hair was so thick I didn't even notice them. It was kind of embarrassing but I did explain to the vet what happened. The same thing happened with my hound. He ran off for a day and came home loaded with ticks which started falling off after a few hours of him being back home. He is a couch potato and I was able to see the ticks on him. He managed to get out twice over the course of a week and I have pulled at least 60 ticks off of him. All were dead or dying. The one thing I don't like about the collar is that it comes off easily. My hound did lose one of his Adam's collars in the woods, but luckily I had a spare. So far I have not seen any fleas this season but out of the 6 dogs I have that wear these collars, all ticks are dead or dying. The other dogs don't seem to pick up ticks like the hounds. I did shave the big hairy dogs great Pyrenees , so I cannot attest to the collars working thru a lot of hair, but they do work on my pound dog. Some people may not understand how flea and tick meds work. The pest DOES have to bite the animal to die. There does not seem to be a repellent factor. Killing pests before they have a chance to breed and lay thousands of eggs will eventually eradicate any pest problem in your yard or home, and prevent future issues. Your pet may still get bitten by the occasional bug if a visitor brings one in, or he goes for walks outside his own territory, but they won't be able to create an infestation and the problem is greatly minimized. Not only do you have to brush your Goldendoodle, but you also have to comb down to the skin, until the comb goes through the coat effortlessly. This means you will actually have to block out time from your day to physically brush your dog every single day. Otherwise, your doodle ends up completely knotted up. This leads to moisture becoming trapped in the coat once this happens, bacteria begins to grow and then your doodle will get hot spots and major skin issues. Putting your dog through that kind of torture for simple aesthetics is really uncool.
