Photo from: miss. Hybrid breeds are crossbreeds of two purebred dogs that are, essentially, of a different breed. Labradoodles come in several sizes, depending on their Poodle parent. You can find standard Labradoodles, micro Labradoodles, and even rare teacup Labradoodles! They also come in several dozen coat colors and patterns. Why is that? Its parents are the Labrador, which comes in three standard colors, and the Poodle, which is bred in ten coat variations. When you multiply these, you get an almost infinite number of combinations. Golden Labradoodle This is a pretty standard color for this breed. As the apricot color was the last to be recognized as a standard shade for Poodles by the AKC, it probably originated from mixing blue, silver, and dark brown genetic traits for fur pigments. The same can happen with golden Labradors, as well. This usually includes their nose, eyes, eye rims, and toenails. Sometimes, their nose can also be brown. These cute little dogs resemble teddy bears and look more like a toy than anything else. Apricot Doodles tend to become lighter as they grow older. In fact, a golden Labradoodle puppy might, later on, be confused with the cream Labradoodle since their color fades that much. Cream Labradoodle If your pooch picked up more features from their Labrador parent, some people might not even believe you when you say he is a Labradoodle! For example, you can find cream shadings in the merle Labradoodle, parti Labradoodle, or the phantom Labradoodle. They can have both dark and light noses, various eye shades, and even light toenails. However, most cream Labradoodles have fairly pinkish skin under their bright coats. In fact, the possibilities for this shade are so great that you will hardly struggle to find two same dogs in this coat color. Red Labradoodle This shade looks quite similar to the mahogany hair color in humans. Red Labradoodles are relatively rare, as the shade is inherited via recessive genes. Also, neither Poodles nor Labrador Retrievers come in red — not if the AKC acknowledges them as there are red Poodle varieties out there. Because of this, they can be quite challenging to find. While the exact fur shade is more of a very dark golden, breeders prefer calling these dogs red as they are easily distinguished from other colors. Red Labradoodles are usually bred as the offspring of a dark-colored Poodle with a cream or tan Labrador. Black Labradoodle Another standard color for Labradoodles, the black shade is typically the result of crossbreeding a black Poodle and a chocolate Labrador. Unlike Goldendoodles, Labradoodles often come in pure black color. This is because both the Poodle and the Labrador can come in dark shades, unlike the Golden Retriever that is lighter in color. Unless both parents are black or at least chocolate, it can be difficult to breed a black Labradoodle. In fact, even if both the Poodle and the Labrador are black, you might get chocolate puppies. All of this can make black fur color somewhat unpredictable. Typically, black Labradoodles come in a solid black color. This includes their paws, noses, eyes, paw pads, and all other physical attributes. There are several different shades these dogs can come in, so you can find Doodles in milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or even dark mahogany. This type of coat is usually described as a dark, red shade with a dull pecan color. Chocolate Labradoodles often have two shades mixed into one. This is because dark tones are recessive, so the second color, which is usually lighter, tends to mask these genes. You can even find multi-colored chocolate Labradoodles. Blue Labradoodle Blue, or silver Labradoodles, have a unique coat shade that is rarely found as a solid color. In fact, this hair tone is usually located in multi-colored Doodles, such as the sable, parti, or merle Labradoodles. If you have a hard time imagining this color, think of it as a washed-out black. Finding a Labradoodle that is entirely blue is almost impossible, despite this being a standard Poodle color. These dogs have two coat colors, and one of them has to be pure white. The other color can be of any shade that Labradoodles come in, but brown and apricot are the most common ones. They can also come in blue, while black is rare. The recessive gene found in Poodles is responsible for this pattern. To get a parti Labradoodle, you should breed two Doodles with this recessive gene, then hope their offspring will inherit it. If there is just one dominant gene in any of the parents, it can easily mess everything up. Because of this, parti Labradoodles tend to be quite expensive. Most breeders will conduct DNA testing to ensure a pup would have the parti patterns. As this color combination is fairly rare, there are virtually no two parti Labradoodles with the same markings. Tuxedo Labradoodle A tuxedo Labradoodle — or a black and white Labradoodle — is becoming more and more popular in recent years. These dogs have distinct features, such as a white tummy and legs, while the rest of the body is black. As the markings resemble a tuxedo, this is how this variation got its name. However, not all black and white Labradoodles are considered Tuxedo. Some Labradoodles can also have white markings on their chests, muzzle, and top of their heads. This means they are not Tuxedo. This is yet another pattern that is quite tricky to breed. To get a black and white Labradoodle, a breeder needs to crossbreed a parti Poodle with a white Labrador Retriever. This makes these Labradoodles quite rare. Sable Labradoodle Chances are this is the most unique color pattern in a Labradoodle — especially since the sable pattern is tough to predict in Labradoodle puppies. These dogs are entirely black during puppyhood. Then, as they grow older, most parts of their coat lighten, but some, such as the muzzle and their ear tips, remain black. Even if a sable Labradoodle ends up being light cream when adults, some parts of their body will remain pitch black. They are quite rare when breeding two Labradoodles, as at least one has to have a strong merle gene. The merle Labradoodle is quite different from the parti Labradoodle in that a dominant gene determines the merle pattern. This means that only one parent has to have it for it to show. However, there are many health issues related to the merle gene. Because of this, you should never breed two merle Labradoodles, as their offspring can have problems with their bone structure, be visually or hearing impaired, and develop other similar health issues. Grey Labradoodle These Labradoodles resemble their Poodle parents the most. In fact, at first glance, they look just like a medium or large-sized silver Poodle. This is yet another problematic coat type to predict in puppies since they are born looking like a chocolate Doodle. The best way to know if the puppy will grow into a grey adult is to look at his skin underneath the brown coat. If their skin is light, chances are their coat color will fade. At the same time, this is yet another shade that is usually seen in Aussiedoodles, so these two hybrid breeds can end up mixed. Phantom Labradoodle Finally, we get to the main color combination of this article — the phantom Labradoodle! This is an exceptionally rare color for a Labradoodle because for a Labradoodle to be considered a phantom, it has to have distinct colors in specific areas of its body. However, you can also find them in other colors, such as blue or a chocolate phantom. The typical color combination for a phantom Labradoodle is black and brown. However, you can find them in quite a few other colors, such as brown and silver, black and cream, or brown and cream. Phantom Labradoodles can also have white markings. All of this makes phantom Labradoodle the rarest of all coat patterns. Luckily, a phantom Labradoodle is easy to tell right after birth. Other colors, however, can be quite challenging to predict. A general rule of thumb is to pick a Labradoodle that is at least a shade darker than you expect it to be since most will fade over time. While all Doodles are adorable, there is something special about phantom Labradoodles. Whether it is their unique pattern or how seldom the pattern appears, it seems like no one can resist them. Blue merle sable pup coat Blue merle phantom tuxedo Black wolf sable pup coat Black wolf sable adult coat chocolate wolf sable puppy coat Chocolate wolf sable adult coat Coat Types Wool Wool is the tightest and curliest coat type, much like a lamb. It is springy and will stand up on its own when brushed out. Easy to maintain with bi-weekly brushing or regular trimming every weeks. A wool coat on an Australian Labradoodle is made up of thick, dense, and tightly curled hair that resembles wool. The hair is often coarse to the touch and provides excellent insulation against the cold. Wool coats are commonly found in breeds adapted to cold climates, such as the Poodle and Komondor. Wool coats can grow very long and require frequent grooming to prevent matting and to maintain their appearance. Fleece Fleece is silky soft and comes in varying degrees of curl. Spirals, loose curls, and waves are all seen in the fleece coat. It is the most commonly seen Labradoodle coat. This coat can be maintained with weekly brushing and trims times yearly. A fleece coat on a Labradoodle is typically made up of soft, wavy, and fluffy hair that resembles fleece or cotton. The hair tends to be longer than other coat types and grows in loose, elongated curls. Fleece coats are low to non-shedding and are usually hypoallergenic, making them a popular choice for people with allergies. Fleece coats require regular grooming to keep them looking their best and to prevent matting and tangling. Hair The hair coat is straight or wavy and prone to shed. This coat is rarely seen in Australian Labradoodles as advancements in genetic testing allow breeders to avoid it easily. The hair coat is typically less curly and less dense than the other coat types, and it can range in texture from straight to wavy. Hair coat Labradoodles require regular grooming, but typically shed less than other coat types. This coat is easy to maintain with regular brushing and can be less time consuming to bath and dry because it is less dense. Allergies Not all Labradoodles are Allergy and Asthma friendly. They have had an extremely high success rate so far. We recommend that if you can meet one of these beautiful dogs in person, you should check to see if you have any reactions before you decide to purchase your new puppy. We recommend that any family member suffering from dog-related allergies or asthma should look into a Wool coated labradoodle as it has the highest success rate. Great Day Labradoodles. I think NOT! My history with French Bulldogs started in Brazil back in .I fell in love with a brindle Frenchie girl, of big eyes and lovely temperament. Her name was Ninna. She was the center of attention of our home, and I saw myself planning a second Frenchie soon after her arrival. In , Ninna gave us a litter of six little Frenchies 5 girls and 1 boy. The very special boy was Sayid, who got us started in the world of dog shows. Sayid brought us many reasons to celebrate, collecting titles wherever he went. Since then, I have been learning more and more about health, genetics, temperament, structure, history and everything concerning this loved breed, always staying in touch with breeder friends from around the world. I love dedicating my time to learning all about Frenchies and I do my best to improve the breed with the next generation. I actively show and attend the most important American dog shows yearly. Raising sound, well rounded puppies is a joy to me and the smiles they bring us are priceless! The Frenchies are spoiled by my husband, baby son and myself, and we are getting used to and loving! Fernanda Barlow is my sister and best friend, and we combine our efforts to improve the breed whenever we can. Vivianne - Breeder. There is not a consensus about its origins. Either way, because livestock has always been essential for the economy in the south of the country, the Brazilian Bulldog was widely used to capture wild cattle and to handling cattle in slaughterhouses, similar to the Brazilian Mastiff. It has a broad head and holds an imponent posture. Its triangular ears are small-sized and floppy, and its muzzle is short and wide. The females grow up to 21 in 54 cm in height while an adult male stands at about 22 in 56 cm. Its fur is short and smooth, and it could be in a variety of colors. The most common are brown, fawn, and brindle with white markings. Temperament and behavior Despite its aggressive look, the Brazilian Bulldog stands out for its loyalty to its owner, tenacity, and courage. Its temperament is vigilant and calm, with a strong companionship sense and an accentuated spirit of a warrior. It is a versatile dog with guarding instincts, making it an excellent guard dog. The Brazilian Bulldog is obstinate to cross any hurdle while being controlled enough to show a high degree of obedience to the commands of its master. Common health issues As a rustic breed, the Brazilian Bulldog is prone to some bone diseases, but it can be avoided with proper care. Despite the fact some Campeiro Bulldogs dogs suffer from severe hip dysplasia, overall, the condition affects only a few dogs. Apart from this, there are no other diseases specific to the Brazilian Bulldog that affect the breed on a large scale. It is recommended to prevent external and internal parasites through vermifuge and combat infectious diseases through vaccination. Care The Brazilian Bulldog requires very little care as it sheds very little. Beyond that, it has a high energy level, so if not involved in handling cattle or other types of fieldwork, it should exercise daily. Regardless, this breed, just like any other, requires lots of love and affection. Diet and nutrition The amount a mature dog eats depends on its age, size, body structure, metabolism, and obviously, activity level. Each dog is unique, just like people, and they need different amounts of food. The Campeiro Bulldog is medium in size and is highly active. So, its diet should be formulated for a medium-sized breed with high exercise needs. You can also consult with a vet in your area for better recommendations. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have, and hopefully we can help you fall in love with this breed as we have!! AKC proudly supports dedicated and responsible breeders. If you are preparing its food, opt for a diet consisting of beef or chicken and fresh vegetables. Your Brazilian Bulldog is an active breed that needs some form of regular exercise if it is not directly involved in guarding livestock. So, its daily activity could include brisk walks once or twice a day combined with sufficient indoor or outdoor playtime that provides both physical and mental stimulation. The Campeiro has a short, smooth coat that does not have to be rigorously groomed. Brush it once or twice a week and gently wipe its coat using a moist cotton cloth if it gets dirty. Since it is intelligent and loyal to its owner, the Brazilian Bulldog responds well to short training sessions. Always ensure to add fun-filled, positive reinforcement techniques to help make its training more effective. Campeiro Bulldog Photo.

Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in Montana? I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. Breeds The link has been copied! When considering the addition of a Goldendoodle to your family, one of the first questions that come to mind is, "How much does a Goldendoodle cost? This comprehensive guide will delve into various aspects influencing a Goldendoodle's price. Additionally, we'll discuss the importance of choosing reputable breeders and provide valuable information on protecting your pup with innovative technology like Fi's GPS-tracking dog collar. By learning about these factors beforehand, prospective Goldendoodle owners can confidently navigate this process while ensuring they bring home a healthy and happy companion. How Much Does a Goldendoodle Cost? If you're considering adding a Goldendoodle to your family, it's essential to understand the costs associated with this popular and lovable breed. In addition to the upfront cost of purchasing or adopting a puppy, ongoing expenses like vet visits, vaccinations, grooming services, and pet food need to be considered. The cost of a Goldendoodle puppy can vary, depending on several elements, which will be discussed in further detail later. First, however, it's essential to focus on the purchase price and consider routine costs throughout your dog's life. These may include annual check-ups at the veterinarian's office including vaccinations , monthly heartworm prevention medication, grooming sessions every weeks, and high-quality pet food that meets their nutritional needs. How Much Is a Goldendoodle Puppy? The price of a Goldendoodle puppy can range widely depending on the breeder, its location, and any special features it may have. However, some breeders may charge even higher prices if their puppies come from an exceptional bloodline or have unique traits. Purchasing From Breeders Breeder reputation: Look for reviews online and ask around within local communities or social media groups dedicated to Goldendoodles. Health testing: Reputable breeders will conduct health tests on both parent dogs before breeding them together. Puppy contract: A responsible breeder should provide a written agreement outlining what they guarantee regarding your new pet's health status and other terms related to care after purchase. Finding Adoptable Dogs Through Rescues and Shelters Adopting a Goldendoodle from an animal rescue or refuge can be a great way to give a home to an abandoned pup while saving money. Many organizations specialize in rescuing specific breeds, like the IDOG Rescue , which focuses on finding homes for doodle dogs such as Goldendoodles. Keep in mind that adopting through shelters may require additional time and patience compared to purchasing from breeders since you might have to wait until your desired breed becomes available. However, this option is often more affordable than buying directly from breeders and helps support animal welfare efforts. Factors That Impact the Cost of a Goldendoodle When considering the purchase of a Goldendoodle, it's essential to understand that various factors can impact their cost. Colors The color of a Goldendoodle's coat can significantly influence its price. Rarer coat colors, such as reds and merle goldendoodles , are more expensive than common shades like cream or apricot. While this may not affect the dog's personality or health, many potential owners are willing to pay extra for unique appearances. Dogs with proven lineage from reputable breeders often come at higher prices due to their genetic quality assurance than those without documented ancestry. Breeder Reputation Reputable Breeders: Purchasing your puppy from reputable Goldendoodle breeders ensures you get a healthy dog raised in good conditions. Reputable breeders follow ethical breeding practices by testing parent dogs for genetic disorders and providing proper care during pregnancy and after birth. This level of care comes at a higher cost but provides peace of mind knowing your pup is coming from responsible hands. Puppy Mills and Pet Stores: It's crucial to avoid buying from puppy mills or pet stores, as these establishments prioritize profit over the welfare of their animals. Dogs bred in such conditions often suffer from health issues due to poor breeding practices and inadequate care. While puppies from these sources may have a lower initial cost, they can lead to higher expenses in vet bills later on. We do not recommend buying from a pet store or a puppy mill. Estimated Size The size of your Goldendoodle will also impact its price. Smaller Goldendoodles, like Mini Goldendoodle or Teacup varieties, typically cost more than Standard-sized dogs because they are in higher demand due to their convenient size for apartment living and easier handling by owners with limited space. On the other hand, larger adult Goldendoodles might be less expensive but could require more resources for grooming costs, food consumption, and exercise needs. The Prices of Different Size Goldendoodles Goldendoodles come in various sizes, which can significantly impact their cost. In this section, we will explore the prices of Mini, Teacup, and Standard Goldendoodles to help you understand how size affects the overall price. Mini Goldendoodle Price The Mini Goldendoodle is a popular choice for those who want a smaller dog with all the wonderful qualities of a standard-sized one. These dogs typically weigh between pounds and stand around inches tall at shoulder height. You may also find that some breeders charge more for rarer coat colors or patterns. Teacup Goldendoodle Price If you're looking for an even smaller version of the beloved doodle breed, then consider getting a Teacup Goldendoodle. Weighing only pounds and standing just under 12 inches tall at shoulder height when fully grown makes them perfect pets for people living in apartments or small homes. Keep in mind that caring for teacups might require extra attention compared to larger breeds, so be prepared for additional expenses in the long run. Standard Goldendoodle Price The Standard Goldendoodle is the largest of the three sizes, weighing between pounds and standing around inches tall at shoulder height. These dogs are known for their friendly personalities and low-shedding coats, making them great family pets. It's essential to choose a responsible breeder who prioritizes health testing and ethical breeding practices when purchasing your new furry friend. This innovative device allows you to keep tabs on your dog's location at all times, giving you peace of mind knowing that they are safe. The Fi Smart Collar offers several features that make it an excellent choice for Goldendoodle owners. These include: Real-time tracking: The collar uses advanced GPS technology to provide accurate location data so that you can find your pup quickly if they wander off or gets lost. Fence alerts: You can set up virtual fences around specific areas such as your home and receive notifications if your dog leaves these boundaries. This feature helps prevent them from venturing too far away or into dangerous situations. Durable design: The collar is built with high-quality materials designed to withstand rough play and harsh weather conditions, ensuring long-lasting protection for your pet. Battery life: Boasting a battery life of up to three months between charges, this collar ensures continuous monitoring without frequent interruptions for recharging. In addition to providing security and peace of mind, the Fi Smart Collar also tracks activity levels. It enables you to monitor how much exercise your Goldendoodle gets daily - crucial information, given their energetic nature. Now that you know the cost of owning one, let's look into what makes this breed so special with our next heading: Goldendoodle Breed Guide. Goldendoodle Breed Guide The Goldendoodle is a popular and versatile breed, known for its friendly personality, intelligence, and low-shedding coat. A blend of the Golden Retriever and Poodle breeds, this hybrid pooch presents a great mix of attributes that make it appropriate for various ways of life. Personality Goldendoodles are typically affectionate, social dogs with a gentle temperament. They get along well with children and other pets in the household. Their high level of intelligence makes them easy to train as they quickly pick up on commands and cues from their owners. Moreover, these dogs have an innate desire to please their humans, which further contributes to their trainability. Generally speaking: Miniature Goldendoodles: weigh between pounds kg and stand at about inches cm tall at shoulder height. Standard Goldendoodles: Standard Goldendoodles are larger, weighing between pounds kg and standing at inches cm. Average Lifespan The average lifespan of a healthy Goldendoodle ranges from around 10 to 15 years when provided proper care, including regular vet check-ups , vaccinations, exercise routines, grooming sessions, and a balanced diet. They enjoy activities such as walking, running, swimming, or playing fetch. Providing them with at least 30 minutes of daily exercise is essential for keeping your Goldendoodle happy and healthy. Additionally, engaging in mental stimulation exercises, like puzzle toys or obedience training sessions, can help keep their minds sharp. Approximate Lifetime Care Costs The lifetime care costs of owning a Goldendoodle include expenses related to food, grooming, veterinary care including vaccinations , pet insurance if opted for , and accessories like collars and leashes Fi GPS Tracking Dog Collar recommended , among others. How Can I Lower the Cost of a Goldendoodle Goldendoodles can be quite expensive, but there are ways to reduce the cost while still enjoying the companionship of this lovable breed. Adopting vs. Buying From a Breeder Pet adoption websites and local animal shelters often have Goldendoodles available for adoption at significantly lower costs compared to buying from breeders. By adopting, not only do you save money, but you also provide a loving home to an animal in need. Purchasing or Adopting an Older Dog Instead of a Puppy If your heart is set on owning a Goldendoodle, but the price tag seems too steep, consider adopting or purchasing an older dog instead of opting for puppies. Older dogs usually come with lower prices as they might not possess certain desirable traits like specific coat colors or pedigree lineage. Additionally, senior dogs tend to be calmer and require less training than their younger counterparts. Conclusion After considering all the factors that impact the cost of a Goldendoodle, it is safe to say that they can be quite expensive. The price of a Goldendoodle can vary significantly, depending on factors such as size, age, and the breeder's reputation. Additionally, grooming costs and potential health issues should also be taken into account when calculating the actual cost of owning a Goldendoodle. If you're interested in getting a Goldendoodle but want to lower the cost, consider adopting an adult dog or purchasing from reputable breeders with reasonable prices. Investing in pet insurance is essential to ensure that any unforeseen medical costs won't be a burden. If you're ready to welcome a new furry friend into your home and want peace of mind knowing their whereabouts at all times, try Fi's GPS-tracking dog collar today! Be sure to keep tabs on your pup with Fi's GPS collar, which gives you real-time location updates and activity tracking. The link has been copied! You might also like. Before buying or adopting any dog, it pays to do your homework. Knowing where to search for your next dog, what to look for in a reputable breeder, and what you should expect to pay can improve your odds of bringing home a healthy dog at a reasonable cost. Purebred dogs have national breed clubs that provide information about the breed. Though the goldendoodle is a crossbreed, a national organization called the Goldendoodle Association of North America supports responsible breeding and pet ownership. Cost of Adopting a Goldendoodle Goldendoodles occasionally find themselves in need of rescue when people buy puppies from unscrupulous breeders who make unrealistic guarantees, or when new pup parents find themselves unprepared for caring for their goldendoodle. For instance, reputable goldendoodle breeders should never guarantee that a puppy will be 'hypoallergenic' or will not shed. When those adorable goldendoodle puppies start shedding, or when their human has an allergic reaction, the doodle may be in need of a new home. Rescuing an adult goldendoodle is not only a great way to save some money on the purchase price of the dog, but also provides other benefits. Goldendoodle puppies may also end up in rescue occasionally. This adoption fee generally includes the costs of updated vaccines and a spay or neuter surgery, and helps to ensure the organization can continue its lifesaving work. Cost of Buying a Goldendoodle Buying a goldendoodle puppy from a breeder is the most expensive way to acquire a goldendoodle. However, the cost of a puppy varies wildly. Breeders from different states may charge more, and the cost of a larger size goldendoodle may be different than a smaller goldendoodle. Some breeders also charge more for more desirable colors or coat types. Responsible goldendoodle breeders put a lot of money into their breeding programs, which is why their puppies cost a lot. Such breeders purchase or keep high-quality dogs for their breeding programs, perform genetic health screenings on the parents before breeding them, maintain pedigrees and pair dogs thoughtfully to better the breed. Reputable breeders also pursue thorough veterinary care for their adult dogs and puppies, feed high-quality diets, register their litters with the proper organization, and never overbreed their females or breed more puppies than they can responsibly care for. Due to the efforts they put in to produce healthy, high-quality dogs, good breeders usually offer a health guarantee on their puppies. Such breeders may simply breed together any male and female they happen to own and sell the resulting puppies. When a goldendoodle breeder tells you the price of buying a puppy, ask about their breeding program, genetic screening and health guarantees to find out what you are paying for. Additionally, be aware that some pets stores sell goldendoodle puppies along with many other breeds of puppies. It is very difficult to obtain accurate information on breeders who supply to pet stores, and in many cases, animal welfare experts worry about these puppies coming from puppy mills. A puppy mill is often described as a commercial dog breeding operation where the goal is to produce as many puppies as possible without regard for their health and the welfare of the breeding dogs. Both the adult dogs and puppies often have poor health, are exposed to more infectious diseases, and tend to have ongoing health problems in additional to coming from inhumane living conditions. For this reason, it is best to avoid purchasing a puppy if it has a questionable origin. One significant cost to consider for goldendoodles is the cost of professional grooming. Almost all goldendoodles need to have their hair trimmed by a groomer. Some goldendoodles may need grooming once a month; others can go about eight weeks in between haircuts. Article Sources The Spruce Pets uses only high-quality sources, including peer-reviewed studies, to support the facts within our articles. Read our editorial process to learn more about how we fact-check and keep our content accurate, reliable, and trustworthy. This blog explores why these Goldendoodle puppies fetch such a premium and the aspects contributing to their pricing. Goldendoodle Puppies and Their Worth Goldendoodle puppies are the delightful offspring of two popular breeds: the ever famous Golden Retriever and the Poodle. The combination of the attractive and hypoallergenic characteristics emblematic of Poodles with the loyal and loving temperament peculiar to Golden Retrievers mixes wonderfully in a hybrid that combines all the best parts of their ancestors into a strong Goldendoodle. The price of a Goldendoodle can vary based on several factors. Firstly, the amount of health testing completed on the parent dogs can significantly affect the cost. Breeders who do physical health testing will have passing certifications to share with customers. They should include results for hips, elbows, patellas, heart, and eyes. Breeders should only utilize dogs in their breeding program that pass all these physical tests. Removing a dog from the breeding pool who fails a test results in loss of the investment in that dog as a breeding prospect. DNA panels screening for diseases is also critical so that pairing of breeding dogs can avoid crossing two who carry the same disease mutations. When both parents carry the same disease genes, the puppies can inherit a gene from each parent resulting in the puppies being affected by that disease. Reputable breeders ensure proper DNA and health testing to rule out genetic disorders, ensuring the puppies have the best chance of a long, healthy life. As a result, costs could rise. Goldendoodles with rare colors may command a higher price than their counterparts. However, choosing a puppy solely based on its color is never a good practice, as temperament and appropriate size for your home is always the top priority. While it might seem initially high, the price of a Goldendoodle reflects the care, effort, and responsible breeding practices invested in raising a healthy and well-adjusted puppy. The Role of High Demand in Goldendoodle Costs Goldendoodles have gained significant popularity over the years, and the demand for these adorable puppies is sky-high. However, responsible and reputable breeders prioritize the health and welfare of their dogs over the volume of puppies they produce, ensuring each puppy receives the right amount of care and socialization. The high demand and the limited supply from reputable breeders naturally drive the price upwards. However, these breeders might not adhere to proper breeding practices, often skimping on health checks, failing to properly socialize puppies, and ignoring the genetic diversity necessary for a healthy pup. Quality breeders invest time, energy, and resources to ensure their puppies are healthy, well-socialized, and ready for their new homes. Avoiding puppy mills , which often prioritize quantity over quality, is paramount. Such places tend to breed more puppies without sufficient regard for their health and well-being. This can lead to puppies with health problems, poor socialization skills, and even behavioral issues. This ensures that the puppies they sell are genetically sound and free from preventable health problems. Breeders with a good reputation ensure good care for the mature dogs under their charge, furnishing them with a good life, regular examinations by a veterinarian, and plenty of affection and personal notice. How to Find a Reputable Goldendoodle Breeder Knowing how vital it is to select an ethical breeder, comprehending the hallmarks that distinguish reputable breeders is crucial when embarking on your quest to welcome your first furry companion into your family fold. So, how do you find a reputable breeder amidst the sea of Goldendoodle puppies for sale and mini Goldendoodles for sale ads? Next, note how the breeder talks about their adult dogs and puppies. A reputable breeder will be more than happy to answer any queries you have about the breed, health issues, or their breeding practices. Remember, a good breeder will never have an abundance of Goldendoodle puppies for sale. They focus on the quality of the litter, not the quantity. Owning a pet is a long-term commitment, and it goes beyond the initial purchase cost. The ongoing cost of feeding your pet a high-quality diet is critical for their overall health and well-being. Spay or neuter costs are other factors to consider. Although not immediately necessary for puppies, this procedure is required by contract by all responsible breeders once the puppy is old enough so as to prevent unwanted litters and specific health issues. Finally, investing in pet insurance can be a wise decision. While it adds to your monthly expenses, it can save you significantly in case of accidents or illnesses. The love, companionship, and joy that these furry friends bring into our lives make every penny spent worth it. Bringing a Goldendoodle puppy into your life is a decision that comes with both financial and emotional considerations. However, when you investigate those intelligent , adoring eyes and experience the unconditional love they offer, every dollar spent feels worthwhile. Reputable breeders, like those affiliated with the GANA, go to great lengths to ensure their Goldendoodle puppies are healthy, well-adjusted, and ready to bring joy to their new homes. They invest in health tests, provide high-quality care for their adult dogs, and take the time to socialize their puppies properly, all of which contribute to the cost of a Goldendoodle puppy. This could be in the quality of care, health testing, or breeding practices. Opting for a cheaper puppy could mean facing higher vet bills and potential heartache. By doing your homework prior to bringing home your new puppy, you will be assured you have a quality bred, healthy, well-socialized puppy. Your journey awaits. At their best, they are intelligent, friendly, and affectionate. They come in three sizes: miniature weighing 15 to 30 pounds , medium 30 to 45 pounds , and standard 45 to more than pounds. Because they are a cross breed, their traits are not fixed, so there is not a guarantee that the Goldendoodle puppy you purchase will fall into the desired weight range. The Goldendoodle is intelligent, friendly, and family oriented. It is a highly social dog. Goldendoodles tend to follow their nose wherever it leads, so a fenced-in yard is recommended. They are always ready for a game; most Goldendoodles retain the natural retrieving instincts of the Golden Retriever. Goldendoodles do not bark frequently. History Less - In the s, breeders in both North America and Australia began crossing golden retrievers with standard poodles. The original purpose of the cross was to attempt to develop guide dogs suitable for visually impaired individuals with allergies. The goldendoodle is sometimes called a designer dog. The Encyclopedia Britannica traces the term "designer dog" to the late 20th century, when breeders began to cross purebred poodles with other purebred breeds in order to obtain a dog with the poodle's non-shedding coat, along with various desirable characteristics from other breeds.
We start with the origin, the parent breeds — Pug breed and Maltese. The Pug Breed The Pug is a breed of dog known for its distinctive physical features and has a wrinkly square muzzle face that should never be shaved or cut. The body is solid and heavy with well-developed muscles. It has a very short coat that requires little maintenance, making it an ideal dog for city life. This breed comes in a variety of colors including black, apricot fawn, silver or platinum, and palomino. Pugs have a sense of humor and are very affectionate, so they form strong bonds with their owner and other pets. They are very gentle and easygoing dogs. They usually get along well with children, strangers, and other animals. They are bright and can be taught to do tricks quickly and without much effort. Yet, these dogs are not ideal for people who are gone for long periods of time as they are known to experience separation anxiety when left alone. These cheerful little dogs are easy to care for and need moderate daily exercise. They are small, sprightly dogs that are known for their white coats. Maltese make good pets because they are very friendly and playful. Maltese dogs are a good choice for people who live in an apartment. Maltese dogs are good with children, but they need to be supervised around young kids because of their size. Maltese dogs usually have a white coat, although some may have a light tan or apricot color. They have long hair that should be brushed regularly to prevent tangles and mats from forming. Maltese are very small dogs, typically weighing between four and six pounds. They have a round head, large eyes, and a pointy muzzle. They have triangular ears that stand erect. Maltese tails are usually long and bushy. Maltese are smart and eager to please; however, they can also be timid, which means they need to be properly socialized when they are young. Maltese dogs often become good-naturedly aggressive with other dogs, and sometimes even cats. Appearance — Malti Pug Malti Pugs are different-looking pugs. They do not have the traditional wrinkly faces that the typical and well-known pug has. Instead, Malti Pugs possess the body of a Pug and the face of a Bolognese dog. The face of this cross between pug and Maltese can be blunt or slightly longer than in purebred pugs. A Malti Pug looks like a tiny version of a Pug or a little Pomeranian. It has short legs and curled tail. The body is solid and compact with a flat muzzle and always pure black eyes or brown eyes. Malti pug has prominent, round eyes that are dark in color, a pug nose, and large ears that are set low on the head. Malti Pug can have silky or flat coats usually depending on the type of Maltese they are generated from. The variety of coat colors and patterns make Malti Pug very attractive pets. Their short and fine hair appears smooth and soft to touch, but it can get easily tangled with more frequent brushing. Pug Maltese are well known for having the energy levels of a small lap dog yet the mannerism of larger dogs. The average height of these dogs is inches. This breed can be called yappy if you live in an apartment because they are indoor dogs. But they make good watchdogs, barking loudly at any stranger who might come to your door. They are easy to train. Temperament — Malti Pug The Malti-Pug is a very interesting mix of breeds and as a result, there are many things that to note about him and his temperament. The Malti-Pug belongs to the toy dog breed. The toy dog breed has a good reputation for being smart and trainable, especially for people who like a challenge that is sure to come. You will have responsibilities like short walks and grooming. Malti-Pug is a rare combination of an energetic, spirited, and fun-loving personality, with a hint of an independent mind. They also have protective tendencies. This dog is very loyal to its family and needs a lot of attention from them. The dog would be suited for you. Pug Maltese are able to charm any company, interesting, friendly, gentle, playful nature, and lively dogs. They love their territory and try never to leave it for long. They like their house and yard very much, and in time can become an excellent watchdog. This breed is intelligent and eager for adventure, which makes it ideal for people of all types. Provided the trainer is experienced and talented, this breed will do well with anyone. This breed is a good choice for people who are looking for a loyal and loving dog. They are able to participate in many activities with their family. However, they might not be the best breed for inexperienced trainers. These problems can make the puppy sound like it is snoring or gasping for air when sleeping. Since people do not know about the breathing issues these dogs can have, they are breeding them recklessly. This could lead to more dogs having breathing problems in the future. Pugs have crowded teeth and they can get an illness called periodontal disease. If they do, it can lead to serious problems and damage in their body like in the kidney. Hypertrophic osteodystrophy is a disorder that is passed down from parents to their children. It affects the bones and can cause tumors to form on them. Malti-pugs are more likely to develop breathing problems because they have a shorter nose. This can lead to a collapse of the nasal passage. They also tend to suffer from overcrowded teeth, which is a common issue in Pugs as well because of their brachycephalic skull shape. Other Health Problems There are other health problems that Malti-Pugs can inherit from their parents. Malti-Pugs can develop a set of health problems that are common in both the Maltese and pugs. The main thing to look out for is breathing problems because of their brachycephalic skull shape. Teeth overcrowding is also a major issue with this dog breed. Always buy a Malti-Pug puppy from a breeder who will give you health clearances for both parents. It manifests itself in pugs that have been bred with Maltese and pugs, though it can also be observed in other dogs of both purebred and mixed-breed. Malti-pug small dog syndrome causes many problems in the lives of malti-pug dogs, little dogs that suffer this condition. The small dog syndrome will not let the dog grow to be their size. Their behavior is different and their looks are changed. People who own malti-pug small dog syndrome should seek the help of a vet. They can be either light or dark in color, and their ears may be cropped or uncropped. First, you should brush their coat regularly to remove any loose hair or dirt. Second, you should trim their nails every week or two to prevent them from getting too long. And lastly, you should give them a bath once a month or so. Exercise Requirements- Malti Pug These dogs have very demanding natures and are perceptive of the moods of their owners and the environment around them. They need to be with the family for most of their waking hours to get along well with them. You need a lot of attention from your Malti Pug to go along with the privilege of having him or her as a pet, as well as moderate exercise. You must provide your dog with stimulating activities to keep his or her mind from wandering into mischief. Hybrid dog owners should ensure their dog gets enough exercise. A Malti Pug typically needs at least 30 minutes of exercise each day, such as running or playing fetch. Although they are small dogs, Pug Maltese have high energy levels and require considerable exercise to remain fit. Same as their parent breed pug and maltese, the breeders that you should contact are those with the American Kennel Club certification. Training- Malti Pug Malti-pugs are highly trainable dogs. They are eager to please their owners and can learn a variety of commands and tricks. Training your malti-pug is a great way to create a strong bond between you and your pet, and it can also be a lot of fun. Start training your malti-pug early, while they are still young, and you will be amazed at how quickly they learn. When you first start training your dog, keep sessions short — no longer than 5 or 10 minutes at a time. Praise your dog when they do something correctly and reward them with a treat to encourage good behavior in the future. Conclusion The Maltese Pug mix would be a good fit for any family who wants a dog that is cheerful, humorous, and easy to be around. The mix is basically a miniature pug with super soft fur and cute little wrinkles. These dogs are loyal and affectionate. Expect this dog to thrive in an active environment as it loves to play and shed its energy. It loves people, children, play dates and is really good at going anywhere with anyone. The Maltese-Pug mix is a friendly and fun dog. It likes to play, but you should do that in moderation. This breed of dog is great when given the opportunity to socialize and exercise. They will thrive and be a great addition to any family. For more pug-related guides and information , visit our blogs. Our staff are avid fans and dedicated owners of Pugs. Best regards, A combination of the spunky Pug and the cheeky Maltese, the Malti-Pug is a diminutive dog with a large personality. A gregarious character that gets on well with most people and animals, this hybrid is a good choice for a household that is already established with children and perhaps some additional pets. The Maltese The Maltese does not actually come from Malta as its name suggests, but more likely from the nearby region of Meleda, an ancient Croatian island now known as Mljet. Thought to be an ancient dog breed with over 2, years of history to its name, records show that the Maltese was highly-prized in its time, with the ancient Greeks even constructing tombs for them when they passed away. While the Maltese was able to thrive throughout the centuries, it almost met a premature end in the early 18th century when ill-informed breed fanciers attempted to make the breed even smaller and the population size dwindled. Efforts were made to stop the breed from becoming extinct and it was necessary for other breeds such as the Poodle to be added to their gene pool in order to re-establish a healthy and robust population. The Pug Having enjoyed a surge in their popularity over the last couple of decades, many will be surprised to learn that the Pug is not a new breed at all, but rather one that has been around for several thousands of years. Though we are uncertain where they first originated, they were certainly present within China in the year B. Veterinarians are now demanding that breeders act now and start establishing a new population of Pugs with longer faces and less breathing issues. Rather than looking like a combination of the Pug and the Maltese, they have quickly developed into a breed in their own right, with quite a unique look. As the Maltese is not classed as a brachycephalic breed, its muzzle is relatively long in comparison to its skull and there is more space for the soft tissues of its head. Due to this, the Malti-Pug should have a much less snub-nosed appearance than the Pug with a more pronounced muzzle. Perhaps their most dominant facial features are their dark, circular eyes that lend them a keen and alert expression at all times. Their body is square in shape with short limbs. Their tail curls over their back, though is rarely as dramatically curled as that of their Pug parent. Though many will retain the fawn body and darker facial mask that is typical of some Pugs, others will have solid coat colours that may be fawn, black or white. Their fur is straight and rather harsh, rarely growing as long as the elegant, flowing coat that the Maltese is well-known for. Very sociable, they will get on well with all other family members, including those of the four-legged variety. Most Malti-Pugs make good little watch dogs, as they enjoy guarding their territory and emitting loud yaps as soon as someone new arrives. However, this trait can make for a noisy time when the postman or neighbors pops by! Due to its small size and gentle temperament, the Malti-Pug does not make a successful guard dog. Due to this, owners need to be firm but fair, not allowing them to get away with any mischief. Sensible training is the best way to prevent this behaviour from developing in the first place. Health There are a number of diseases that each parent breed is genetically prone to and, while they may be seen somewhat less often in this hybrid dog, they have unquestionably not been eliminated. Dry Eye Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca Dry Eye can be a tricky disease to diagnose as in the early stages dogs may not show many symptoms. Indeed, in any breed that is prone to developing dry eye, it is advised that their tear production is monitored at each annual vet check. As the disease progresses, the surface of the eye begins to suffer from being chronically dry and a dog may develop a thick mucus discharge, as well as eye infections and ulcers. The treatment of choice is medicated drops that encourage tear production, as well as the frequent application of lubricant drops. There is also a surgical procedure available, which has varying success. Brachycephalic Syndrome One of the best ways to reduce the prevalence of brachycephalic syndrome within a breed is to cross them with a non-brachycephalic dog, as has been done when the flat-faced Pug was crossed with the Maltese. Despite this, some breed members will have a smaller face than they should and may have some issues breathing efficiently. For some, surgical procedures such as a surgery to open their nostrils wider may be of benefit. Owners need to be aware that these dogs are more prone to heat-stroke and can struggle to keep up when exercising with their peers. Porto-Systemic Shunts An abnormal blood flow that is present from birth results in blood being shunted away from the liver, meaning it is never processed as it should be. This results in inappropriate digestion of nutrients and a build-up of dangerous toxins over time. Affected dogs will be small for their age and typically also exhibit abnormal neurological behaviour. The treatment of choice is a surgery to alter the flow of blood so it no longer bypasses the liver. Periodontal Disease Dogs with small skulls are prone to dental over-crowding and the build up of calculus on their teeth. Exercise and Activity Levels While the Malti-Pug is playful and curious, they do not actually need a great deal of outdoor exercise and are usually content with a few short walks that are supplemented with play time and training sessions. Grooming The coat of the Malti-Pug tends to shed quite a lot and should be brushed outside on a daily basis to minimise the loss of fur within the home. As discussed, their teeth benefit from frequent brushing and this is something that owners should work on getting their dogs used to from a young age. Lifespan Sociability The Maltipug is a popular dog breed, especially because it is small and friendly and does not have excessive exercise requirements. When choosing a breeder, you should avoid the temptation of finding the cheapest. Although a low price does not guarantee that a breeder offers poor-quality dogs, there is a chance that their breeding parents are overbred which can lead to behavioral and physical problems with the puppies. Consult with your local kennel club or hybrid club and ask for recommendations. Ask your local vets, or any owners of similar breeds that you know, and look at reviews and ratings online to help you find breeders with a good reputation and with a history of offering healthy and well-adjusted puppies. There are also groups of owners and fans of the breed, and group members will usually have a very good idea of the breeders that do good work and those that you should avoid. When you do find a breeder, determine whether they have had the puppies screened or, at the very least, that the parents have been screened for common health concerns associated with the breed. This can save a lot of heartache in the long run and help ensure that you get a healthy dog with a lower propensity for genetic illnesses. Try to meet the parents of the dog. It is still a good idea to brush and groom them every week because this can help prevent knots and matting, and a lot of owners like to take their Maltese to a professional groomer to control the hair around their face. Their long hair does mean, however, that Maltese can be prone to sunburn in the area where their hair parts on their back. This is part of the Dalmatia region, where the Dalmatian breed also originates. It is believed that the breed actually originates from the Spitz-type dog of the region, although having been bred to be smaller. There is no recorded link to Malta whatsoever. The Wrinkles Were Bred into The Pug The Pug, which was bred as a lapdog for Chinese royalty, is meant to have the distinctive wrinkles on his head and face. It is said that these were bred into the Pug and were meant to represent the Chinese symbol for a prince. If the folds are not cleaned regularly and properly, it can lead to infection and a disease called skin fold dermatitis. In most cases, the Malti Pug has the long hair of the Maltese and avoids the wrinkles of the Pug. As such, he is a loyal and loving companion dog. While he might only be quite small, he is a vocal protector of his human parent. If your Malti Pug takes after his Maltese parent, he may be a little snappy around young children, especially if he has been spoiled by his owner. If he takes after the Pug, it is more likely that he will be loving and will dote on people of any age. The Pug is known for being a comedian and enjoys showing off. Are These Dogs Good for Families? This is because most hybrid breeds have little history behind them, and also because the parent breeds can have a big influence on how your new dog will act and react. In this case, the Maltese is considered a good companion dog but is usually preferred by the older owner. He will not normally get along very well with children, and this problem is magnified if he has been spoiled by his owner. He can be yappy and even a little bit snappy with young children. With that said, his size means that he should not be left alone with young children because he can get accidentally hurt. On the other hand, the Pug is known to love children because he enjoys showing off and is always up for some troublemaking. Thus, it can be a bit of a lottery whether you get a dog that mixes well with young children or should be kept away from them. The Pug is likely to stick his tongue out and charge towards anything that looks exciting. The Maltese might be a little more reserved in his approach, but inwardly he is just as excited at the prospect of making a new four-legged friend. Socialization is a good idea with this breed, especially because a lot of people will instinctively try and pick up a Pug or Maltese when seeing them. If your dog is emotionally and physically well adjusted, they will appreciate the affection, will not back away, and they will not usually bark except in excitement. However, before buying one, you should consider the following factors to determine whether this is the right breed for you and your circumstances. You will likely only need to feed your dog one cup of good quality food every day. Obesity is a major problem for dogs, and especially because he will not want to go on long walks to help walk off the calories. Despite this temperament, though, they do not have high energy requirements at all, which is one of the reasons that they are so good for apartment living and why they are so popular with older owners looking for a companion. They will be content with one or two short walks a day and will be happy if you augment these walks with some active playtime during the day. With that said, the Maltese does do well in agility and training classes, and you might find that your new puppy enjoys these kinds of activities as well. But they do have a bit of a stubborn streak so they will only really do what you want if this happens to align with what they want. With that said, a consistent trainer that is heavy on positive training methods can enjoy very good results with this breed. Training should be considered important because the breed can develop small dog syndrome. They will believe that they run the house, especially if they are overly protected by their owners. They tend to be allowed to get away with bad behavior, and it is difficult to train bad behavior away. Therefore, early and ongoing training will help in this regard because it prevents the bad behavior before it occurs, which is much easier than having to try and discourage bad behavior that has become a routine. You should brush this breed every day because it will get rid of the loose hair, which can become uncomfortable when it is matted and knotted. It can also help prevent the shed hair from building up in the home. It is usually easier to brush your dog while he sits on your lap than it is to repeatedly brush the floor. Maltese and Pugs can develop weepy eyes. You can keep their eyes clean by regularly wiping the tears away but do so carefully. This helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease, both of which can cause serious discomfort in a dog and may prevent them from eating. Because your Malti Pug does not get a lot of walks, his nails will get long and require trimming. Get a good quality trimmer , get your puppy used to having his nails trimmed at a young age, and consider having his professionally groomed if you are unable to clip them yourself. The following are some of the conditions that are closely associated with the two parent breeds and that should be closely monitored. Minor Conditions. Distichiasis Your pooch may also experience issues such as fold dermatitis, allergies, deafness, and seizures. This small dog will have a fairly deep chest with a broad rounded head with a medium-length muzzle. If your pooch gets most of its genes from the Pug parent, they may have more of a square muzzle. This breed will have dark round eyes that will portray an eager but gentle expression. Your pooch may inherit the Pugs double layer coat with a soft, smooth coat of the Maltese. Some pups may inherit the single-layer coat from the Maltese parent, which is also silky and flat. The crossbreeds are also known to have a rough wiry coat with a soft texture. Unfortunately, it is hard to know what the coat will look like until you see the puppy. However, you can expect the colors to be fawn, black, or even white. Diet, exercise and overall health will determine the lifespan of this breed. Trainability This breed is intelligent, which should make them pretty easy to train. That being said, they can have a stubborn side. A dog this size will most likely only require a cup of food in one day. Of course, it will depend on your dogs, age, and activity level. Choose high-quality dog foods that will provide them with the nutrients they need to stay healthy. Avoid buying them the cheaper foods that are full of fillers without any nutritional value. If you have a puppy, opt for food that is formulated for puppies. Puppies have different nutritional requirements than adults. Choose some high quality treats you can feed them sporadically. Also, invest in an automatic feeder or a good dog bowl. Exercise Requirements This small dog is will require at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise per day. This can consist of a short walk, make sure you have a good leash to keep them from running away. Be careful not to overexercise this dog, as this may cause injuries for their tiny joints. Early training and socializing will ensure that your Malti-Pug becomes a well-developed dog that actually listens to you. Socialization is important to ensure that your pooch becomes acclimated to all types of sounds, smells and sounds in a positive manner. Breed Loyalty When you build trust with your Malti Pug, you can expect a loyal companion that is always by your side. Grooming Requirements The grooming needs for this pooch will vary from dog to dog. The amount of grooming each pup requires will depend on which parent it inherited most of its genes. If the pooch acquired most of the genes from the Pug family, you can expect to brush them at least times per week. Regular brushing will help you remove dead hairs and control the heavy shedding. The Maltese coats are more prone to developing mats and tangles and will require more brushing. Bathing All dogs will need to be bathed at least once every three months. Some dogs may require more bathing than other dogs, it really just depends on the particular pooch. Never bathe your Malti-Pug too often; as it can strip the natural oils from their skin making their coat dry and itchy. If your pup inherits most of its genes from the Pug, you may want to bathe them at least once a month to help control the smelliness. A Maltipug with most of its genes from the Maltese parent will do fine with one bath every 3 weeks. A Pug has fold-over ears, while a Maltese has are drop-shaped that hang close to the dogs face. Your Malti-Pug will most likely have velvety ears that hang close to their face. Cleaning your Malti-Pugs ears will be a part of your regular grooming regime. Most veterinarians recommend that dogs ears should be cleaned at least once a month. Long neglected nails can cause them to split or crack, especially, when your pooch is walking, playing, or running. Lack of oral hygiene can lead to diseases and infections, just like in humans. Opt for a gentle brush and a dog-specific toothpaste. Human toothpaste can be toxic to dogs. With proper and regular grooming, your dog will live a healthy and happy life. Starting the grooming routine early will help get your pooch conditioned to the process, which make your life so much easier! Temperament Both parents are gentle, affectionate, and trusting, which make them a great family dog. You can expect the Malti-Pug to be a small dog physically, with a huge personality. Each dog will have its own unique personality, but you should expect a dog that is full of energy. This small dog prefers to be a lap dog and loves its human companion. The Malti-Pug is an intelligent breed with a silly side. Living Conditions Unlike big dogs, they will be fine living in a home with a small backyard. They are perfect for apartment living, due to their lower energy levels, although be prepared for their bursts of energy. Make sure they have plenty of toys to help keep them entertained. Kids and Other Dogs This small dog will get along with other dogs, cats, and even people. They will do great with families of young children. You can expect them to have common dog problems such as chewing, begging, and digging. However, with proper training, they can be molded to behave the way you want them to. This pooch will look forward to attention from their human companion, so be ready to spoil them with belly rubs and baby talk. Both the Maltese and the Pug require a lot of human attention and are also known to suffer from separation anxiety if left alone for hours every day. The Malti-Pug will do best in an environment where they get a lot of attention. They should do fine if you work outside of the home. Just be prepared to have them greet you at the door wanting all your attention after spending the whole day alone. Health Risks As with any mixed-breed dog, there are some issues you need to consider as a pet owner. Designer breeds may have more health issues than that of the purebred parent. Always ask the breeder if they test the parents for genetic defects. Just taking the time to find out about the background and health issues of the parents can prevent you as a potential Malti-Pug owner facing a host of medical problems and thousands of dollars in vet bills. As with any crossbreed mix, the price of a Malti-Pug puppy will vary in price. One of the biggest things that affect the overall price is the pedigree of the parents. The better the pedigree, the more breeders will charge for the litter of puppies. I personally recommend looking for a reputable breeder, as opposed to buying from a puppy mill. Another thing that affects the price is the breeder you choose to buy from. Popular breeders realize they can charge top dollar for their pups, but it usually means you are getting a puppy that will be health. The prices will vary depending on whether you decide to adopt or buy the doggie. In other countries, the prices may be lower. It really just depends on where you purchase the pup and the breeder you buy from. Finding a Malti-Pug will be a lot harder than finding one of their parents. Most people who adopt or buy crossbreeds will usually contact the kennel club in their country. This will allow you to find a registry of breeders with high breeding standards. Join forums or websites online that share information about the Malti Pug. This will allow you to meet other people who have adopted or bought a Malti Pug and can recommend the breeder they used. Green Field Puppies website , also has a huge selection of Pug Mix puppies for sale, so you can check them out. Some of the basics include puppy food, food and water bowls, crate or puppy pads, leash or harness , puppy gates or baby gates , toys and some safe puppy treats. Your new puppy will also need to have their shots.

With careful breeding, breeders can now produce litters with predictable coat types and shedding propensities. The gene responsible for furnishings is dominant; so by testing the parent dogs DNA, it can be determined if a breed pair will produce puppies that all have furnishings, or if there will be some puppies with an incorrect or Bernese like coat. Dogs with furnishings are lower shedding than dogs without furnishings. If you have a family with allergies, a Bernedoodle with an incorrect coat is not the best match for you. By testing the parent dogs of Multigen Bernedoodles, your breeder can be sure not to breed parents that will produce puppies with incorrect coats without furnishings unintentionally. These Bernedoodles do not have furnishings. Utah Bernedoodles. Sit back, close your eyes, and imagine a Bernedoodle in your mind. What do they look like? While that mental image is often accurate, did you know that Bernedoodles can come in a wide variety of coat colors and textures? Also known as flat coat Bernedoodles, these dogs can sometimes be confused for purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs based on their appearance. So, is there anything wrong with this coat texture? Or, would a straight hair Bernedoodle make a great fit in your family? Keep reading to learn all the pros and cons! Can Bernedoodles Have Straight Hair? Although most Bernedoodles have curly hair, many Bernedoodles have straight hair instead! Naturally, some puppies will inherit more traits from one parent breed and some will inherit more from the other. Even from the same litter of Bernedoodles, some puppies may have flat coats similar to that of the Bernese Mountain Dog while others may have curly coats that more closely resemble the Poodle. Genetics can truly be a grab bag! Are Bernedoodles Always Curly? Bernedoodles can have curly hair, straight hair, or even an in-between, wavy coat! That being said, breeders often strive to produce as many curly haired puppies as possible. This is because curly-haired Bernedoodles are more likely to shed less and be allergy-friendly. This preference by breeders explains why you see many more curly Bernedoodles than those with flat coats. Straight hair is one of the traits a Bernedoodle puppy can inherit from their Bernese Mountain Dog lineage. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with flat coat Bernedoodles, puppies with curly coats tend to be more popular. Many people want the appearance and personality traits of a Bernese Mountain Dog with the allergy-friendly coat of the Poodle. As such, breeders typically strive for their puppies to inherit a curly coat. Reputable breeders will perform extensive genetic testing and familiarize themselves with the lineage of the parents to give them the best chance at this. However, there are different generations to choose from which can increase or decrease your odds of having a flat coat Bernedoodle. Photo courtesy of superdogmoose on Instagram. Check out this article that explains everything you need to know about Bernedoodle generations! What you should know for now is that the more Bernese Mountain Dog DNA your puppy has, the more likely they are to have straight hair. This is extremely uncommon, however. Are Straight Hair Bernedoodles Hypoallergenic? While no Bernedoodles are guaranteed to be completely hypoallergenic , straight haired Bernedoodles are far more likely to bother allergy sufferers than their curly haired counterparts. As you can see in the table we discussed earlier, these generations have the lowest theoretical percentage of Bernese Mountain Dog DNA. While this shedding might not be as bad as a purebred Bernese Mountain Dog, it will probably still be a significant amount. Post category: Blog Posts There is so much confusion regarding the generations of Bernedoodles. I often have customers requesting a specific generation for no real reason other than they felt that is the generation that they want based on reading information that is not well researched. Instead, I ask them to refocus on the coat type, color, and size that they are looking for. There is no reason to focus on a specific generation if you are simply looking for a healthy and attractive pet. I have been breeding Bernedoodles for about 6 years and I have noticed no difference at all in the health of any different generation of Bernedoodle. There is no evidence that a specific generation of the Bernedoodle will affect the health of the puppy. Any of our Bernedoodles regardless of generation has been bred for the three things we focus on: temperament, beauty, and health. Of course, mother nature is a brutal force and things can go wrong even with the best planning but I can count on one hand how many major health issues I have had as a breeder. It is a combination of both an art and a science and we employ both tactics to reduce risk when we can. Genetic screening in combination with pedigree matching is the method we use to produce healthy puppies. Since the Bernedoodle is a breed in development there is not a lot of long term data regarding the longevity but based on what we know about the Bernese Mountain Dog, Poodles, and overall longevity based on size, it will likely be that a smaller sized Bernedoodle will live longer than a larger Bernedoodle. One more thing I will mention- Bernedoodle Generation and Allergy friendliness are not really correlated. A person can be allergic to either saliva or dander and if you are allergic to saliva you will be allergic to any and all Bernedoodles, Poodles, etc. If you are allergic to dander a Bernedoodle with the appropriate coat type will likely work for you. Before reading through the following description of coat types, I will say most Bernedoodle coats other than the Bernese Coat we have experience with have very little to no shedding. That being said we have almost never seen a curly-coated Bernedoodle shed. Bernedoodle coat types: There are four main coat types that a Bernedoodle can have: Straight: This is a coat type only achieved in Bernedoodle-to-Bernese or Bernedoodle-to-Bernedoodle breedings. While these dogs have a fluffy look, still they have the least amount of curl to their hair compared to the other coat types. Visually, they have a loose wave. We see this coat type very often in our Ultra Bernedoodles. Wavy: This is the traditional coat type of most F1 Bernedoodles that is not super curly but also not straight either. Wavy-coated dogs require brushing and grooming on a regular basis. Curly: This is the coat type that is most similar to that of a purebred poodle. These dogs rarely shed and often are the most suitable for those worried about loose hair. Curly coated dogs are the highest maintenance of all of the traditional Bernedoodle coats and will require more frequent bathing and grooming. Bernese Coat: This coat type is a throwback to the purebred Bernese Mountain Dog and often times exhibits the same level of shedding as well. This coat type appeals to people that are interested in health benefits and possibly decreased size of a Bernedoodle but do not want the maintenance of a doodle coat. Do Bernedoodles Shed? Bernedoodles are known for being a low-shed to no-shed breed. Their minimal shedding makes them a very allergy-friendly breed. Bernedoodle Coat Types Bernedoodle coats can vary in thickness, consistency, and color. In an F1 first generation breeding, you might get a puppy with a coat that looks more similar to a Poodle and get another puppy with a coat just like a Bernese. As a breeder begins to breed this first generation of Bernedoodles with other Bernedoodles, they are able to achieve more consistency and predictable traits shed level, color, size. Their coats can have a various range of colors as well. Some might be black and white while others may be black and brown or even solid black. This coat most resembles the coat of the Bernese. Some may even have a few other colors thrown in here and there. Generally, when an individual is looking to buy a Bernedoodle, the type of coat takes precedence over the coat color. Thicker hair will help them survive cold winters better while also giving them protection from the heat of summer. This is also something aspiring Bernedoodle owners consider when choosing a puppy. Bernedoodles usually come in one of three coat types: straight, wavy and curly. This coat is very free-flowing and often has a kinked or wavy appearance. The curls on this coat are usually tight with a soft texture much like what you would see on a Poodle. Curly coats may still shed, but they shed the hair upon themselves rather than on your floor. Unfortunately, this shedding upon themselves is what makes it necessary for them to be brushed daily and trimmed frequently. The curly coat Bernedoodle is usually the most suitable for owners who have an allergy to dog dander. This usually amounts to times per week. They also need to be professionally groomed every weeks to keep their paws, eyes, and private areas maintained. What About Allergies? Are They Hypoallergenic? No dog is truly non-allergenic. In the case of Bernedoodles, they are allergy-friendly because of their single coat. While all coats types are considered to be allergy-friendly, the curly coat is considered to be ideal for severe allergy sufferers. The reason is that, as stated above, no dog is non-allergenic, and the reason for this is that there is no dog that does not produce an allergic response of some kind. This is what makes allergic people miserable. Every breed of dog carries a different amount of these allergy-provoking proteins. The seborrheic level is the level of oil the dog produces. Certain oily-haired dogs, such as Labrador Retrievers, carry a large amount of these proteins. The less amount of oil a dog has in its skin, the less dander it will produce. Since the poodles are one of the least oily breeds of dog, Doodles and other dogs created by using Poodles are going to be more hypoallergenic and have fewer body odors. Therefore, Bernedoodles are more allergy-friendly. Most dogs have two coats: an undercoat and an overcoat. The undercoat, which is a softer coat, acts as an insulation to keep the dog warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The overcoat, a slightly more course topcoat, has stiff hairs that shield it from dirt or debris and repel water and moisture. Bernedoodles do not have the two coats. Bernedoodle puppies should be brushed regularly regardless of the coat type, although, curly coats will require brushing a little more frequently. When the Bernedoodle gets about nine months of age, he will start losing the coat a little by little. Related Questions Do Bernedoodles need to be brushed often? Because Bernedoodles shed so little, they should be brushed regularly, but the frequency of brushing can be determined on the type of coat. Curly coats will need to be brushed on an almost daily basis while straight coats can get by with being brushed only a couple of times a week. Do Bernedoodles mat easily like the other Doodle dogs? Bernedoodles do have a tendency to become matted if they are not brushed regularly. This is particularly true with Bernedoodles who have the curly coat. The curlier the coat, the more likely it is to become matted if not brushed. Can coat type be determined through breeding? Coat type absolutely can be determined through breeding. If the breeder is experienced, he or she can determine exactly what kind of a coat the litter will have based on which sire and dam are being used for the breeding and past genetics. This is where F1, F2, F3, and multigenerational breeding comes in handy. Conclusion With so many wonderful dogs out there, one would often wonder why aspiring dog owners would choose a mixed breed dog like the Bernedoodle. Related Posts:. What is the Bernedoodle coat Like? Every Bernedoodle coat is different. The curlier the coat the less it will shed. The straighter the coat the more it will shed. Most Bernedoodles have the wavy hair coat that is low to no shed hair type. Most people with allergies are ok with this hair type. Bernedoodles with a more curly coat are more like the poodle and will not shed. It is very rare to have a bernedoodle with straight hair. Brushing your Bernedoodle twice a week will make shedding less noticeable. Bernedoodles need to be brushed at least once a week to prevent mating. It is necessary to have your Bernedoodle clipped every few months, you can do this yourself or have a professional do it. What size is a Bernedoodle? Bernedoodles come in different sizes just like the poodle. They come in standard, mini, and micro mini. Standard: These range in size from pounds inches at the shoulder. The reason for this huge range is because standard poodles range in size tremendously. I have had standard Bernedoodle adult weight only 45 pounds, but that is uncommon. An experienced breeder should be able to tell you within about pounds how big your puppy will be. In some occasions it is impossible to know. Mini: These range in size from pounds and inches at the shoulder. Micro Mini: These range in size from pounds. What Colors do Bernedoodles Come In? As they can be prone to hip, elbow dysplasia and eye problems. Just like most other breeds they can get cancer. Genetic testing can reduce the health concerns for Bernedoodles. Standard Poodles need to be tested for Hips, Eyes, Thyroid, and heart. Mini Poodles need to be tested in Eyes, Hips, and Vwd. What's the difference between furnished and unfurnished? The term "Furnishings" refers to the long hair on the extremities of the dog including the head and tail. When our Bernese is crossed with a Poodle the resulting dog is furnished. If one of our Bernese is crossed with certain bernedoodles, the result is unfurnished. We've had many families specifically ask for an unfurnished bernedoodle. Some families don't like the beard of the furnished bernedoodle or they love the bernese look, but like the bernedoodle temperament more. Here are some photo examples: F1, F1b, F2 What does all of that mean? Use tab to navigate through the menu items. Coat types can be split into 4 separate categories: CURLY COAT Curly coated Bernedoodles are the highest maintenance of the 4 types, but this coat type is the best option for people with moderate allergies due to the lack of shedding. Curly coats are still very plush, and it looks absolutely adorable.Usually we will see curly puppies in F1b generations and onwards, but sometimes we get curly F1s as well. These puppies are much less likely to shed than a straight coat or unfurnished, but are recommended for people with minor or no allergies as shedding amount can not be guaranteed. It is still important to take the unpredictability into account when choosing your puppy if you are prone to reacting to dogs. Please also take into consideration and research whether you are sensitive to dog saliva as well, which will cause reactions regardless of coat type! Generally between 6 months to 1 year is when the most drastic coat changes are seen. These puppies generally shed lightly to moderately, so they are not recommended for people with allergies. They are less likely to knot and mat compared to a wavy or curly coated puppy. Daily brushing is still recommended! These Bernedoodles are uniquely gorgeous in their own way, and typically keep their coat colours into adulthood better than furnished puppies. Unfurnished puppies will typically shed moderately, and are not recommended for people with allergies.
General Appearance and Temperament The Australian Labradoodle moves with agility and grace when active yet is compact with substance and medium boning. Brimming with joy and energy when free, they become relaxed and quiet when handled. Australian Labradoodles have a free flowing wavy or curly coat that is low to non-shedding. The multi-generational Australian Labradoodle comes in three basic sizes. There should be no appreciable difference in the general appearance of the Standard, Medium, or Miniature sizes except in the actual size difference. Medium 17 to 20 inches tall and weighs between 31 and 45 pounds as an adult. Standard 21 to 24 inches tall and weighs between 46 and 65 pounds as an adult. This graphic will help you to better understand how big your puppy will become. Coat One of the benefits of buying a multi-generational Australian Labradoodle is that you will know with a high degree of certainty what the coat type will be when your puppy becomes an adult. Australian Labradoodles have a single coat ranging from straight to loose curls or wool. Ideally, the curls should not be tight and the coat should not be too thick or fluffy. They can be allergy friendly to many people who have dog related allergies. The coat is as non-shedding as any dog can be. However, in some of the early generations, F1, F2 and F1b, more shedding can occur, but shedding is rarely seen in the multi generation Labradoodle. The coat types are as follows: Fleece The Fleece coat texture should be light and silky, often described as feeling like Angora. The fleece coat can be from loosely waved giving an almost straight appearance to deeply waved with soft curls. The fleece coat has been found to be allergy friendly and is low to non-shedding. Wool The wool coat is denser to the feel like a sheep's wool. It is extremely rare for a wool coat to shed, and is the preferred coat type for families with severe allergies. The Australian Labradoodle has a single coat. Both the Fleece and the Wool coat should be of a soft texture. Color The multi-generational Australian Labradoodle comes in a variety of many beautiful colors and patterns. Lighting can change the colors, with summer sun often causing the outer coat to highlight in lighter shades. Silvering or graying may give the coat a distinctive look. Coats often have a slight to dramatic amount of softening of color over the years. Each combination is beautiful in its unique expression. See examples of each color below. Black Pigment Colors: All dogs in this category have dark brown eyes, black noses, gums and paw pads. The descriptions may range in name from black, blue, or silver to cream, apricot, gold or red. Chocolate Pigment Colors: All dogs in this category have brown noses and lighter, usually hazel, eyes and brown paw pads. Chocolate and caramel are the two basic colors in this category. Intensity of the hue in chocolate and caramel can range from a dark to light. Puppies coats may start out darker in tone, then soften in time with hues of cream. Color names for chocolate range from cafe, milk chocolate, and latte to lavender and parchment. The caramel coloration ranges from light to a dark rich shading of the yellow gene. As we can see from the Australian Labradoodle size chart above, these Doodles come in three main size categories — Mini, Medium, and Standard. The smallest of the bunch is the Mini Australian Labradoodle. The Minis weigh around 15 to 30 pounds and stand about 13 to 16 inches tall at the shoulder. The largest are the Standard Australian Labradoodles who weigh between 50 and 70 pounds and stand about 21 to 24 inches tall. The Medium Australian Labradoodle fits right between the Minis and Standard Australian Labradoodles, with a weight of 30 to 50 pounds, and a height of 17 to 20 inches. F1 vs F1b vs F2b Australian Labradoodle If you know a little bit about Doodles, you know that their generation can play a key role in determining their size. For example, Labradoodles have only Labrador Retriever and Poodle genes. They can be either F1, F1b, F2, F3, and so on. In contrast, the Australian Labradoodles are F5 or higher, and can have a total of up to six breeds in their lineage. As a result, the Australian Labradoodle generations are a lot more complicated. This usually translates to their first 6 months of life. After that, their growth will slow down, until it plateaus at their full adult weight roughly around 1 to 1. By their first birthday, the Australian Labradoodle has most likely reached their full adult height. But we can typically expect them to continue gaining some more weight and girth over the upcoming months. Generally, smaller dogs reach their full size earlier than larger pups. Between .Medium Australian Labradoodles typically reach half their adult weight between 3. They will then plateau at their full adult weight around 11 to 13 months old. Similarly, they will then plateau at their full adult weight between 11 and 13 months of age. However, Minis might reach their full adult size slightly earlier than the Medium Australian Labradoodles. Mini Australian Labradoodles weigh about 15 to 30 pounds and stand 13 to 16 inches tall at the shoulder. Medium Australian Labradoodles weigh about 30 to 50 pounds with a height of 17 to 20 inches. The Standard Labradoodle, the largest of them, weighs between 50 and 70 pounds and stands 21 to 24 inches tall at the shoulder. For example, a high quality diet is crucial for proper growth, development, and overall health. Temperament and Soundness are the two KEY elements in a good family companion; they must not be sacrificed for any reason. General Appearance: The Australian Labradoodle should be athletic and graceful, yet compact with substance and medium boning. Joyful and energetic when free, soft and quiet when handled. They should approach people in a happy friendly manner with eye to eye contact. Keen to learn and easy to train. They have a free flowing wavy or curly coat that does not shed and is possibly non-allergenic. Size: Sizes are still "somewhat inconsistent" with no definition between male and female at this time. Accurate prediction of size, even by an experienced breeder, is not expected at this time. Size is measured to the top of the shoulder blades withers while standing squarely on a level surface. Much care is needed when breeding both the large and small dogs. Large dogs can suffer from rapid growth that can lead to structural problems. Soundness is of utmost importance. Over size is a major fault. Care must be taken to keep the miniature Australian Labradoodle a solid athletic robust dog. The dwarfing of dogs can lead to many genetic and temperament disorders. Minimum size attention is of the utmost importance to maintain a healthy little dog. Most Australian Labradoodles will weigh more than their height reflects. Weight range tends to be 50 to 65 pounds. Weight range tends to be 30 to 40 pounds. Weight range tends to be 16 to 25 pounds. Body: Height to wither to length from sternum to point of buttock should appear square and compact. Top line should remain level with strong loin and level croup. Flanks should rise up from a brisket set just below the elbows, but should not be excessively deep. Ribs should be well sprung but not barreled. Overall, the dog should appear square, be balanced, athletic and with good muscling. Movement: When trotting should be purposeful, strong and elastic, with good reach and drive, giving the appearance of "going somewhere". When happy, relaxed or at play will prance and skim the ground lightly. Excessive tightness in the hips will produce a stilted action and is considered a fault. Tail: Set relatively high and preferred to be carried in a saber, can be carried below the topline or "gaily" above. Curled possum type tails are undesirable. Head: Sculptured, broad, well defined eyebrows, medium stop, eyes set well apart, nose to stop slightly longer than stop to occiput. Foreface shorter than skull. The head should be clean and chiseled and fully coated as on the body, legs and tail. The Muzzle is measured from the tip of the nose to the stop. The skull is measured from the occiput to the stop and does not include the muzzle. Ears: Set moderately flat against the head, base should be level with the eye. Leather should be of medium thickness and when gently drawn forward should reach the top canine tooth. Ear leather reaching beyond the tip of nose is considered a severe fault. Ear canals should be free of excessive hair, and not thick and bulbous. When inquisitive and alert the ear set should rise to the top of the head. Eyes: "Slightly" round, large and expressive, always offering eye to eye contact when engaged in activity with a human. Protruding or sunken eyes are a fault. Watery or tearful eyes are a fault. Wide round or narrow almond shaped eyes are considered a fault. Eye Color: Eye color should complement and blend with the face color. Caramel and dogs with rose pigment may have either dark eyes or "ghost" eyes. Ghost is a hazel color range much the same as it is in humans. Ghost eyes must always remain soft in appearance. Cold staring expressionless appearance in all eye colors is a severe fault. Teeth: Scissor bite only is acceptable, being neither undershot nor overshot. Miniatures must not have crowding teeth. Nose: Large square and fleshy. Pigment: Black or Rose. Pigment should be strong. Black pigment dogs must have dark brown eyes. Pink spots or patches on nose, lips, eye rims or pads are a fault. Dogs with rose pigment can have dark hazel, brown or ghost eyes. Eye rims should be rose as should nose, lips and pads. Pink spots or patches are a severe fault. Rose should be a rich liver color. Neck: The firm, well muscled neck should be moderately long, slightly arched and flow into the well angled shoulders with no appearance of abruptness. The neck should not be coarse nor stumpy and should lend an air of elegance to the dog. A short thick neck is a fault. Color: Any solid color including Cafe' and Silver is preferred. Minimal white on the chest and toes is acceptable. Light chalky coarse hairs kemp sprinkled through a dark coat is permissible but very undesirable. Parti patched and Phantoms, are considered an acceptable color. Phantoms are any shading or two tone coloration such as a Black dog with lower legs showing a soft toning of silver or gold or a dog born dark with a golden shading at the roots or a slight brindling effect. True pure solid colors with the exception of Silver and Cafe' are highly prized and are the ideal for the Australian Labradoodle. It is normal that all colors may show bleaching and discoloration over the top coat. This is called sunning and is quite expected and acceptable, as the Australian Labradoodle is an active dog and often a service dog that enjoys the outdoors. Weather bleaching or sunning must not be penalized. It is the responsibility of conscientious breeders to health test their breeding stock and protect the Australian Labradoodle from developing recurring genetic disorders in the breed. It is good to keep in mind that the Australian Labradoodle is a family companion; we do not want the heartache of illness or the expense of less than sound dogs. Practical research indicates that the fleece and wool coats of the Australian Labradoodle are very successful with Asthma and Allergy sufferers. In these infant years of breeding the Australian Labradoodle some throwbacks will occur, with wiry, sparse, or combination coats that have partial shedding. These dogs need not be discarded for breeding, but should be assessed as to their soundness of body and temperament. Many of these individuals offer valuable hybrid genetics and will breed on excellent offspring. The same applies to dogs displaying undesirable color or size traits. In order to produce a breed with a broad genetic base of quality dogs, haste should be made slowly. Genetic resources must be kept broad to protect the Australian Labradoodle breed from the disasters that many other breeds are suffering, "the genetic dead end". Labradoodles and Australian Labradoodle dogs and puppies. No two families are the same, and their needs for their four legged members differ. We breed three different sizes of Australian Labradoodles so you can find the perfect pup to complete your family. The height of each breed size is measured from the wither, or the shoulder blades to the ground, because this gives the most accurate and reliable measurement for dog height. Weight is based on a healthy range for a full grown Australian Labradoodle of each size. Read more about the sizes below to help you determine which Doodle is right for you! Miniature Height: 14 to 16 inches from the wither Weight: 15 to 25 Lbs Miniature Australian Labradoodles are ideal for families who live in apartments or rental homes with breed and pet weight restrictions. At less than thirty pounds, they can easily accompany you and your family to pet-friendly hotels when you travel most have policies that restrict pets to thirty pounds or less , and they are just the right size for kiddie cuddles! Medium Height: 17 to 20 inches from the wither Weight: 30 to 40 Lbs Medium Australian Labradoodles are slightly larger than Miniatures, and can weigh up to forty pounds. Mediums are still small enough to be lap dogs, but big enough to have a good game of tug of war or accompany you on your morning jog. Standard Height: 21 to 24 inches from the wither Weight: 45 to 65 Lbs Standard Australian Labradoodles are the largest size available. At twenty-two to twenty-four inches from the wither and up to sixty-five pounds, these pups bring the happy, huggable breed to the big dog table. Standards are ideal for active people with a lot of space, as they make good running partners and love to play. Reserve A Puppy Today! The Australian Labradoodle is a very active breed, and needs adequate space and exercise. For example, Miniature Australian Labradoodles would fare better in an apartment than a Medium Doodle. Likewise, a Medium Labradoodle would be better suited to a small house than a Standard. All three sizes are easy to train and very smart. They get along well with other dogs, so they make great additions to pre-started menageries, and are protective and loyal but not aggressive, so they are great with kids. These family friendly, sociable dogs are ideal for anyone seeking companionship and unconditional canine love, from singles to couples, kid-free homes and big families alike. In the early days, the Labradoodle was simply a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Standard Poodle, F1 and F1b are both early generation Labradoodles. Whereby the "Australian Labradoodles" are also know as "Multi-generational" Labradoodles. Labradoodles bred to Labradoodles for many generations and can be traced back to the two kennels that started the lines of Australian Labradoodles. In the late 's, Tegan Park and Rutland Manor both in Australia, started breeding the lines we know today. The resulting labradoodles subsequently have been bred to each other, continuing the multi-generational tradition. Even when the other types of Labradoodles are bred on for generations, the result is not an Australian Labradoodle, as the attributes of the infused breeds were not included in their ancestry. Their mission is to maintain and improve the quality and soundness of the Australian Labradoodles, and to carefully monitor the further development of the breed. All member breeders are carefully screened to help ensure the future of the Australian Labradoodle. Member breeders must breed to the highest standards. Australian Labradoodle Height and Weight Standards: Size Standard: Height 21 - 24 inches at the withers- 45 - 60 pounds Medium: Height 17 - 20 inches at the withers- lbs Miniature: Height 14"" at the withers- less then 20 lbs The Australian Labradoodle is good with children and is easy to train. It gets along well with other dogs. It is extremely clever, sociable and joyful, and quick to learn unusual or special tasks. Active, a little comical at times. Temperament and Soundness are the two KEY elements in a good family companion; they must not be sacrificed for any reason. Australian Labradoodle Temperament: Grooming: Regular grooming with a slicker brush at least every two weeks. Their coat grows like your hair so will need to be trimmed as you prefer it, at least two to three times a year. Trimming and scissoring around the eyes, feet and under area to keep clean and tidy. We are committed to being a leader in this effort. Colors of Caramel may have dark amber to pale hazel-green eyes; liver noses, eye rims and lips; and self colored to dark nails. Colors of Gold, Red, Black, Blue and Silver must have very dark eyes; black noses, eye rims and lips; and black or self-colored nails. Colors of Chalk and Cream may have either pigmentation of dark amber to pale hazel-green eyes; liver noses, eye rims and lips; and self colored to dark nails or very dark eyes; black noses, eye rims and lips; and black or self-colored nails. These colors may appear in one of the following patterns: Solid. Color is solid and preferably even, preferably with no white markings. A small white flash no larger than 2. Even colors are preferred but natural coloration of the coat is not considered a fault. No set pattern is required but symmetrical markings on the head are preferred. Freckling of the solid color in the white of the coat is acceptable but not encouraged. Phantom: The body color must be a solid color with defined markings of a second color as follows: above each eye, on the sides of the muzzle, on the cheek, on the underside of the ears, on the throat to forechest, or on a chin and forechest pattern, with a minimum second coloring on the feet preferably up the legs, and below the tail. Second color on the inside of the leg and flank is also acceptable and should not be penalized. Markings are preferred to be clear and defined. Face markings of the second color with the entire face colored is acceptable, though not preferred, if the other required body markings are present. Any of the solid color combination is acceptable. Abstract: Any solid color with the second color being white, must have less than fifty percent white. Sable: Black-tipped hairs on any solid color, preferable even but no penalty for uneven pattern of ticking. Multi: Multiple colors or patterns, as in a phantom with large white Abstract markings, or a Parti pattern with Sable ticking etc.NOTE: It is normal that all colors may show bleaching and discoloration over the top coat, referred to as sunning, this is quite expected and acceptable.
