We are a family of 4 who live in the country with our farm animals, 4 dogs and 2 cats. We just had 2 Champion litters!! The Sire comes from Champion lines as do both my Dams. All puppies will come with a 1 year genetic health guarantee. The puppies were born and will be raised inside our home with two children, other dogs and exposed to cats, turkeys, ducks, rabbits and chickens. All puppies and the moms went to the vet 12 hours after birth to ensure everyone was healthy. The pups will stay with us until at least 8 weeks of age. We start early socialization once they get their first round of puppy vaccines so the puppies will be exposed to many different animals and people at an early age. I will start some potty and crate training to help give you a boost on their training. Many of our previous litters have went to be excellent service animals and therapy dogs. Ten years ago, this club hosted what is considered one of the greatest Golden nationals of all time — and probably of any breed — on the shores of Lake Erie. That national was judged by the three iconic women Michele Billings, Anne Clark and Jane Forsyth, which resulted in some amazing moments not soon forgotten. With some very big shoes to fill, and without looking backward, this hardworking, creative Golden Retriever club once again hit it out of the park and hosted an amazing event. Some of the friendliest fairgrounds people I have ever experienced. The entry this year was truly significant, with regular conformation, sweepstakes, and obedience, rally and agility entries. When you add all hunt tests, held at another location, the numbers get staggering. To quote the judge of females this year, Mr. The main criteria for the CVGRC judge committee were vast Sporting dog experience, a proven appreciation for the breed, and a reputation for being kind and friendly with exhibitors such a refreshing point. Interestingly, after 82 years this is the last regional club picking its own judges for a national, as that function has been taken over by the parent club. Only time will tell how that will work out; so far, the jury is still out. Karen Mammano and Mr. David Harper. The number of top-rated Goldens and champions handled by these two is uncountable. So, the table was set for yet another amazing Cuyahoga Golden National and — ta-da — another happened. Best of Breed. Tuesday started bright and early with Karen Mammano judging a large entry of in a very efficient and thorough matter. After a few hours of judging, she ended up with a group of very similar class-winning bitches to pick from. A little later, David Harper started 85 males. David was faced with the same problem as Karen, as the quality of the male puppies was as high as has been seen in years. In the end, sweeps finals were judged by Mr. Best Veteran was judged by Mrs. Over the next two days, both dogs and bitches were judged simultaneously. James Brown the country gentleman is there a nicer judge? Wow, did he do a consistent job. His Winners class looked pretty much as if they could have been bred by the same breeder. Brown worked his Winners class again and again before making what seem a tough but quality decision. Beth Johnson more on her later. When I asked Mr. In the other ring, working very hard but truly entertaining the exhibitors and audience, was Mr. Sam Houston McDonald. Never have I seen a judge make exhibitors feel so at ease and enjoy their experience: Thank you, Sam … Nationals are so stressful. If you want a challenge judging, try bitches at a Golden national — it is not for someone weak in the knees. One after another after another, beautiful bitches oozing type entered the ring. In my 47 years of Goldens, they were as good a group as any, and many in there will become well-known names. Then the unenviable job of picking a winner out of a group of cookie-cutter type. How did he do that? Higgans and her handler Ryan Tepara. Ryan has become a very talented Golden handler, and she looked so together for her young age, not easy with a Golden. It was electric to watch the competition between these two; you could point at either and not be wrong. Later, in a large group of 18 Brood Bitches, Mr. What an amazing accomplishment. On Thursday evening, one of the main events of a Golden national, the Top Twenty, was held. This year the three judges were breeder Mrs. Donna Edwards, breeder-judge Mrs. Donna Ernst and all-breed judge Mr. Jamie Hubbard. Beth Johnson. What do you do when there are Best of Breed Goldens to judge? You do it over two days. The 76 bitches were judged Friday afternoon, and dogs and non-regulars on Saturday. This phenomenal task was placed in the ageless and very capable hands of Mr. Carl Liepmann. Liepmann acquired his first Golden in , and has stayed active in breeding and purchasing Goldens ever since. I had the honor of finishing a Golden for Carl a long time ago and learned then that all of his Goldens needed to do equally as well in the field as the show ring, as he hunted with all of them. This year the lone bagpiper played the entire time while each Golden ran around the ring as the specials were checked in one by one. Best of Opposite Sex. Now it was time for Mr. Liepmann to get started with his 76 bitches. As is usual for him, he wasted no time getting them sorted into groups of 20 and usually reducing those to 10 to then come back for another cut. Each Golden was thoroughly examined, each one given equal opportunity to shine. Eventually choosing around 35 to join the males the following day, Mr. Even with the larger numbers, the quality was so deep that it was not easy to reduce some groups to 10 as that process continued, but eventually the final male group of around 30 emerged to compete against the females and non-regulars. Liepmann was a master of his ring, moving the dogs around to all areas of the large ring to allow the entire audience to get close looks at the final groups. After much consideration the final cut was reached, and now came the unenviable task of picking the winners. You could tell the struggle was real as each dog remaining was deserving of winning the National on his or her merits. What a group of Golden Retrievers. Well, the time came, and Mr. Liepmann picked his winners. Riese was brought out of retirement at 10 years old to show in the regular breed class, was in spectacular condition and never quit. If I could share a comment or two with judges of my breed, what would I like to say to them? Marissa Hendrix: Make sure to select for temperament as well when evaluating the whole dog. The best judges will always be those who are welcoming to newcomers, patient with young puppies, and supportive of Juniors. Do I have any words of wisdom to pass along to newer breeders? Take time to sit ringside with your mentors and watch the judging at shows to learn. Bugs would crawl through the ear canal of the unoiled sheep and nest in its brain, eating away at it. The pain from the bugs would be so severe on the sheep that the sheep would bang his skull on rocks and against trees to ease his suffering. When God offers to anoint us with his oil, it means he offers us protection from the parasites of this world that seek to eat away at us. If we hide in caves, or jump off the proverbial cliffs of this world, dodging his anointing and protection, we may become victims of this world. So you would expect a ten week puppy to weigh something in the region of ten kilos or around twenty-two pounds. A twenty percent variation around this would be fairly normal. If your puppy falls outside this variation he may still be perfectly healthy, but if you are inexperienced, a check with the vet is a good way to put your mind at rest. Should I Weigh My Dog? You may need to weigh your dog if he needs medical treatment. Determining the appropriate dose of some drugs requires that we know the exact weight of the patient. You may find that some other dog owners will tell you your nice slim Labrador is actually too thin. Possible Common Thus, a black or yellow Labrador can belong to either breed. It is more likely for chocolate or white Labrador to belong to the English Labrador breed, and it is more likely for a fox red Labrador to belong to the American breed. Physical Condition Even though these figures are universal amongst Labradors, it can be challenging to decide whether your Labrador is healthy solely based on weight. While the carpet may look clean after you scrub it with dish soap and a sturdy brush, soap does not eliminate enzymes that are in urine. And those lingering enzymes you won't smell these, but your Poodle will essentially scream 'This is the bathroom area! So, all areas that have been pee'd or poo'd on need to be cleaned with an enzyme cleanser. Puppies are terrific at making whining noises and barking in the middle of the night, without letting us know if they need to go to the bathroom or are just bored and wanting some attention. If a puppy pees and poos before bedtime, it is far more likely that he wants your company as opposed to having a real need. However, it is always best to be safe than sorry. The important element is that this be done in a very serious manner without any play or other interaction. Keep lights low, bring your Poodle puppy directly to his spot, wait the allotted time without speaking other than praise if the deed is done and then bring him right back. A puppy will soon learn that barking for attention at night does not bring about any interaction that would seem worthy of making a fuss but that alerting you in regard to bathroom needs does result in praise and a quick treat. Poodles that are trained in such a way are much easier to live with should you need to travel with your poodle or if your poodle needs to stay outside the home when you are away. If you do your job to keep your puppy on a proper schedule and are disciplined in taking your puppy out at the proper times you should not be cleaning up any messes. When leaving your home for more than 3 hours, a young puppy should be placed in a crate. They can get caught on something and cause strangulation. Then only to the end of the block and back, if that. Dogs see us as most dominant when we approach standing erect with the front of our bodies towards the dog. So, approaching a dog with the proper body language is of utmost importance. These techniques should be done on a daily basis and in a controlled environment: Until the dog gets over the issue, do not approach the dog with your body front and hand extended. The dog will see this as dominant and it will enforce the habit. Always have arms and hands in a relaxed position hanging to the side of the body. When the dog comes to you to get the treat, then use a clicker to imprint this behavior. Let the dog come around the front of you on its own. Give another treat. Click again. Do not bend over and try to touch the dog. Have the dog follow you and give more treats. Talk to the dog in a high pitched happy tone. Let your dog drag a leash so that you can grab the leash and then start walking away from the dog. Have the dog follow you, reinforce with treats. Do not leave the dog unattended with a leash on. When the dog is in the house you can have them wear a diaper with a tail hole cut in it. Get a grooming table and have the dog sit on it in your home environment. Be sure you have the dog secured with a grooming arm or an eye hook in the wall. Never leave a dog unattended, not even for a moment, on a grooming table. Have them sit or lie on the table or up to an hour at a time. This brings the dog to your level. Dogs truly live in the land of the giants with humans and this is intimidating to some dogs. Bringing the dog up to eye level makes them feel secure. This exercise can be done while doing housework or watching TV or other common indoor activities. Walk your dog on a leash daily for at least 30 minutes. No yelling or hectic activity around the dog until this habit is resolved. We do not recommend free feeding of puppies as this makes it more difficult to housebreak your poodle and regulate their diet. Better to move to free feeding after housebreaking if you choose to. It is harder to monitor how much food they eat when free feeding and a glutunous puppy may quickly become fat. Remember a thin puppy is less likely to develop hip dysplasia. We strongly encourage you to keep your puppy on the same food we provide for the first month. Both coccidia and giardia may live in the gut of a healthy poodle and they never have an outbreak. When their bodies are stressed they are more likely to develop an unhealthy balance and the result may be a sick puppy. Moving to a new home, leaving their Mother and siblings and diet changes are all stressful. We encourage you to make as few changes as possible to your puppies diet the first month. Changing to a different dog food — go slowly. It may take a month or longer to switch foods. If at any point your puppy develops an upset stomach go back to the level of food mix that they were doing well on. Should your puppy develop bloody diarrhea take them to the veterinarian, they have most likely developed gastroenteritis and may need some medication or possibly fluids. Go slowly, new protein sources require time for the stomach to adjust. This is true not only in puppies but also adults. We continue to feed our puppies 3 meals a day until they are 6 months old. Our belief is that in keeping food moving through the puppy it allows for better consistent growth and health. At 6 months of age we start to feed 2 times a day with snacks throughout the day. We continue to feed our dogs 2 times a day throughout their life. We feed snacks several times a day to both puppies and adults which may be carrots, green beans, eggs or chicken or pieces of their kibble. We feed our poodles both kibble and home cooked food.
