Photo from: cookies4 Considering the wide range of fascinating Bernedoodle colors, you might be surprised to learn that solid black is probably the rarest coat color in these dogs! Merle Bernedoodles are also quite rare, although they are becoming increasingly popular. However, this raises some ethical questions. Black and white bi-colored Bernedoodles are relatively rare, as are phantoms and sables. Strangely, although these colors are rare, you might be able to get one sooner than you would a tri-color Bernedoodle! What Is A Merle Bernedoodle? The merle Bernedoodle has a speckled coat over a solid base color. It usually has a brown or black base with lighter flecks of blue or red over the whole coat. It can affect any type of coat, including sable and brindle. The best way to describe it is a mottled, patchwork effect where blocks of solid color have been diluted by the merle gene. Many of these dogs have blue eyes, and sometimes will have one blue eye and one brown! As we mentioned, the merle gene is not naturally present in the Poodle breed or the Bernese Mountain Dog, so it must have entered the Bernedoodle bloodline from outside these breeds. You can read more about the potential health issues related to the merle gene further down. Some breeders charge more for these dogs, simply because demand is high. Think twice before you buy from anyone who sets a high price tag on merle pups! Bernedoodle Eye Problems The Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle are prone to progressive retinal atrophy, a group of genetic eye conditions that eventually lead to complete loss of sight. As a result, the Bernedoodle is at high risk of PRA, so you should always ask the breeder whether they test for this. A reputable breeder always runs a health screening program to ensure that their pups are as healthy as possible. They may become disoriented at night or in low light conditions and bump into any obstacles. The symptoms will worsen over time, and the dog will become blind. There is no cure for PRA at present, and dogs with this condition are usually prepared for life without sight. Genetic testing of breeding dogs is the best way to tackle PRA at present. In addition, we should mention the potential dangers of the merle gene. The merle gene is a genetic modifier responsible for the unusual, randomly mottled, and marbled coat pattern in various breeds, including Australian Shepherds, Labradoodles, Cardigan Welsh Corgis, Border Collies, and Bernedoodles. The trouble with this gene is that it also affects the structure and color of the eyes and the skin and pigment inside the ears. Dogs that inherit one merle gene from the parent dogs are just as healthy as any normal dog. This is terrible news, as double merles can suffer from severe eye and ear problems. They are often also at a high risk for various types of cancer, including skin cancers. Merle Color Issues To drive the point home, you need to be careful about dogs with the merle pattern coat. Most dogs that carry a single copy of the merle gene live normal, happy, healthy lives. It may be born blind or lose its eyesight at some stage. Some are born with eyeballs that are too small to be viable, and these have to be surgically removed. Others suffer from a hearing deficiency or are profoundly deaf from birth. All good breeders will avoid breeding double merles, though some will knowingly use a single merle, having thoroughly checked the breeding partner to make sure it is clear. This seems odd, as every dog we know today was a mixed breed at some time! However, the AKC only allows breeds to be registered if parent breed clubs campaign over several years for this to happen. As it happens, some Bernedoodle breeders have been doing just this to have the breed recognized by the AKC. Also, the AKC has come under heavy criticism for endorsing cruel practices such as tail docking and ear cropping. In addition, they have been accused of keeping breed standards that contribute to suffering purely for the sake of conformation. For example, the Pug suffers many health problems because of its flat face, including eye injuries and breathing difficulties. The German Shepherd is prone to hip dysplasia because of its sloping back. Any dog with multiple folds of skin around the face is likely to get skin infections. King Charles Spaniel is at risk of brain deformity because of the shape of its skull. These are just a handful of examples. None of these features are natural, and all of them have been selectively bred into certain breeds because humans like how it looks. Those against the Bernedoodle being registered with the AKC prefer to continue the way they are, breeding healthy pups without restrictions and interference. Those in favor point out that registration is a good thing, as AKC members are bound by a code of ethics, allowing customers to choose wisely. It has bags of love to give and will be loyal to the end, so who cares if its coat changes color? It gets on well with other dogs, greets strangers like old friends, and absolutely loves kids. All Bernedoodles make amazing family pets that you will love for years to come. Read Next:. If a Mini Bernedoodle lives in an apartment they need to be taken out for exercise at least twice a day as they are a high energy dog breed. They will also need to regularly be taken out to toilet unless they have access to an artificial grass pee pad on the balcony. If you are committed to the extra work of dog ownership in an apartment, a Mini Bernedoodle should be a good apartment dog. Yes, a properly house trained Mini Bernedoodle can be left alone for short periods of time. They usually are okay to be left alone for 5 to 8 hours at a time. This being said, they are highly social animals and if they are left home alone for hours on consecutive days they can develop social anxiety. Keeping them at home alone should be kept to a minimum.

Use baby steps and go slowly letting your GSD pup get used to their crate. Offer them meals Provide them a few meals either very near or inside their crate for a positive association with their new crate. When you leave As they spend more time inside their crate, work on leaving them alone for very short periods. Step 1: Introduce Your German Shepherd to Their New Crate Spend about 5 minutes, two to four times a day, introducing your dog to their special kennel. Familiarize your dog with the kennel by tossing a high-value food reward near the crate to entice them. Let them explore the kennel and go in and out freely on their own. A fun, squeaky toy tossed inside can sometimes help them explore their crate. Step 2: Feed Your German Shepherd Inside Their Crate When your dog has sniffed the crate and wandered in and out multiple times, offer them a meal inside with the door propped open. Offer several meals, in the same way, to show your dog a kennel is a safe place. After a few meals inside and when they are comfortable eating, begin to quietly and softly close the door. But let them out once their meal is over. Next time, leave them in the crate for a shorter period. This way you reward them for staying quiet, instead of whining. When they enter, toss them a treat as a reward. Close the door quietly and sit in the same room as them for 5 to 10 minutes. You can even sit calmly next to the crate while dropping food into it occasionally. Now, go to another room for a few minutes to leave them alone. Instead, sit in the same room again for a few minutes before releasing them. Increase the time you leave them alone in the room and repeat the previous step upon your return to them. Once you work your way to leaving them in their crate for about 30 minutes, begin leaving them in their crate while you leave your house. Step 4: Crating Your German Shepherd When You Leave the House Leave the house for a short time with them in the crate using the same process above to call them to the crate. Call your dog to their crate anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes before you want to go so they have time to settle in their crate and relax. Tell them to go into their crate, give them a reward, and offer them praise. Leave the house without a big commotion. When you return, quietly let them out of their crate. Their collar could get hung up on one of the bars and cause serious injury or worse! When you take the time to introduce the crate properly, they see it is a comfortable place that has their favorite toys and tasty foods! You must keep this slow. If at any time your dog whines, you have gone on too long! Praise puppy for relieving themselves. Offer fresh water and take them back outside again. Take your pup back outside to eliminate before crating. Let them outside to relieve themselves and stretch. Offer fresh water, cuddles, and another meal. They need to go outside after eating and drinking. Place your pup back in the crate. Play with them and take them for a walk. Supervise them by leashing them to you and watching them closely. Let them outside. Praise them for using the bathroom outside. Throw a ball or work on basic obedience. Return inside and leash them to you to supervise while playing, petting, or letting them rest next to you. Bring them in and let them explore while you watch them. Keep them leashed to you when indoors to avoid any accidents. Offer fresh water. Take up the water a couple of hours before bed. This is to prevent accidents in the crate overnight. Let them stretch their legs in the yard. This gets him too excited before bed. You want bedtime to be a calming ritual. You can make your own schedule based on the typical times a GSD puppy needs to go out. Be sure to watch for these times and set an alarm if you need a reminder. Pay attention to these times and let your dog out: When they first wake up. After their first meal of the day. Before you go to work. Most people start crate training their pet when the dog is a puppy, as it is also a very effective potty training tool. Being able to spend time in a cozy, comfortable crate also provides your pet with a peaceful retreat when they want some rest and relaxation time away from the hustle and bustle of family life. The idea of crate training your dog is to provide a comfy, secure space where your pet feels safe and likes to spend time , especially when left alone while you go to work, pop out to the store, or run errands. So, why is crate training such an essential part of raising a German Shepherd , and what are the benefits of crate training? Potty Training Crate training your dog makes the potty training process much easier and quicker. Obedience Training Crate training is a handy tool for obedience training as long as you start crate training your pup from a young age. I found crate training my shelter rescue dog challenging because she was a year old and had never been crated before. That said, we worked hard together, and eventually, she was confident and happy to use her crate voluntarily when I sent her into it. Crate training can help to build mutual trust between you and your furry friend, which is crucial for obedience training. Protection German Shepherds are often thought of as confident dogs that work with law enforcement and as guard dogs. However, these dogs are people-oriented and can sometimes feel insecure when left alone. Safe Transport Most dogs love to go with their owners on day trips and to the park, which usually means riding in your car. For safety reasons, you should always travel with your puppy or adult dog safely restrained in a crate. Not all dogs appreciate car travel and can get car sick. Destruction Prevention Puppies of all breeds can be destructive when you take your eye off them for a moment! Rather than using a blanket your pup could drag into the crate and potentially choke on, we recommend buying a proper, machine-washable crate cover. Step 1: Choose a Crate The best crates for crate-training puppies are high-quality wire mesh crates with divider panels. Ensure you buy the correct size for your puppy. In addition, a crate divider means you can buy a large crate size for your puppy to grow into without having to upsize to a new crate several times as your pet matures. Step 2: Introducing Your Pup to His Crate Before you begin your German Shepherd crate training program, set up your new crate in a room where your puppy will spend lots of time, for example, in your bedroom or living room. Make the crate super comfy by adding a mat, some cozy bedding, and a couple of chew toys. Your puppy should be allowed to go in and out of the crate voluntarily. Your aim at this stage is to encourage your puppy to feel secure and confident approaching the crate and going inside. Using treats and toys will show your puppy that the crate is a fun, positive place where he wants to spend time. Step 3: Feed Your Pet in the Crate Once your German Shepherd puppy happily goes in and out of the crate by himself, start feeding him inside the crate. Puppies reluctant to enter the crate are usually tempted by food, especially greedy breeds such as Goldendoodles and Labradoodles. Start by putting a small bowl of food your pup will eat in ten minutes or so in the crate. As your pet gets more confident and content to eat in the crate, build up the amount of food you give him so that your puppy spends more time eating his meal. Step 4: Begin Closing the Crate Door Now that your puppy is content to eat his meals inside his crate, start shutting the door for short periods, minutes at first. Gradually feed your puppy in the crate with the door closed for extended periods. During this time, try giving your pup a chew stick or a Kong toy stuffed with treats or peanut butter to keep him occupied. At this point, you want your puppy to feel comfortable inside his crate with the door shut. Step 5: Slowly Build Up Crate Confinement Time Now that your puppy is happy to spend short periods in the crate with the door shut, you can begin increasing the length of time he spends in there. If your puppy is happy with that, increase the periods of time he spends inside the crate. Remember to give your puppy plenty of toilet breaks and exercise between confinement periods. Dogs of all breeds do best when they have a routine and understand what to expect and when. Day 2: Continue with Step 1, moving to Step 2 if your puppy is ready. Day 3: Complete Step 2 and move on to Step 3. Day 4: Finish Step 3 and begin Step 4. Day 5: Finish Step 4 and move on to the final Step 5. Throughout the crate training process, be sure to take your time without rushing your puppy. If you try to hurry things, your puppy could lose his confidence in the crate and in you! Tips for Successful Crate Training Finally, here are a couple of top crate training tips that have worked for us! Your dog should always have a positive association with his crate, such as treats and toys. Can You Leave an 8-week-old Puppy in a Crate? Never shut a puppy in a crate as a punishment or if he is not confident and happy to be left in his crate with the door shut. A: German Shepherd dogs are intelligent creatures that love to learn and work alongside their human owners. Although these dogs can be playful and willful, you can usually crate-train your dog within about a month or so. Keep your training methods consistent, and always use positive reinforcement training methods to guarantee a happy dog and a successful crate training program! Q: How long can I leave my dog in his crate? However, senior dogs and those with medical conditions might need more frequent potty breaks. Dogs and puppies can usually last longer overnight since their metabolism slows down. However, you must remember to take your pet for a potty break before settling down for the night. Q: Should I ignore my puppy crying when crate training? Puppies cry to get your attention and be let out of the crate. If you give your pet the attention and freedom he craves, you simply teach him that whinging and crying get him what he wants! Training pads can encourage your puppy to soil his crate, sending the little guy mixed messages and potentially setting back your potty training program. Final Thoughts Did you enjoy our guide to crate training a German Shepherd puppy? If you found the article helpful, please share it! German Shepherds are generally intelligent dogs that enjoy working alongside people and are highly trainable, so they generally take well to crate training. How long did it take for you to crate-train your German Shepherd puppy? Tell us in the comments box below. Meet our writer Wanda C Wanda has LOVED dogs ever since she was a child, and is currently a dog parent to a 3-year-old poodle who means the world to her. Leave a Comment. This is never acceptable. Unfortunately, this can make it somewhat challenging for owners and families with no one at home during the working day. My German Shepherd was never left for more than three hours in her crate during the day. She was crate trained as soon as we brought her home at eight weeks old, as recommended by her breeder. If you check out this fantastic video below from celebrity dog trainer Zak George on how to crate train a puppy, around halfway through the video, he confirms that you should never leave dogs for more than four hours in a crate and less for younger puppies. How to Crate Train a Puppy German Shepherds that have been crate trained love their crate and see it as somewhere comfortable where they can go to feel safe and secure. They see it as their special den where no one else is allowed and where they can either eat, rest, or play with their favorite chew toys. Plus, puppies need loads of attention, playtime, and socialization. The same goes for house-trained adult dogs, who should be allowed outside to pee at least times during the day. You must always exercise your German Shepherd and allow him to go to the toilet before leaving him in a crate for a few hours. You can always invest in a pet camera, such as a Furbo from Amazon, to keep an eye on them from time to time and make sure they are okay. You can get cheaper dog cameras, but I just love how these can toss treats out to your dog, which you control remotely from your smartphone! Extended periods longer than four hours can lead to various mental and physical health issues for your dog. Here are a few significant side effects of leaving a German Shepherd in a crate for longer than four hours a day: Restlessness during the evening is common when owners leave their dogs in a crate for too many hours each day. Pacing, whining, and excessive energy might occur when a German Shepherd is supposed to be tired or winding down for the night. Separation anxiety is an unfortunate issue that GSDs have to deal with sometimes. If they need to pee or poop while stuck in the crate for hours on end, they could develop rashes or infections. After all, would you? Joint issues such as hip or elbow dysplasia is a disease prevalent in older German Shepherds. If your adult dog is crated for hours and hours during the day, then he cannot stretch out and move around sufficiently. The lack of space and cramped conditions without exercise for hours can cause additional pain and discomfort due to your GSDs hip dysplasia. German Shepherds left in their cage for excessively long times can develop heart or other health conditions. Without enough exercise throughout the day, GSDs can become ill very quickly. Remember, they were initially bred as herding dogs and are still used as working dogs today due to their fitness, strength, and stamina. They should have open running space, and they need two periods of at least minutes of exercise per day, including mental stimulation and lots of playtimes. Never uses a crate as a way of punishment for your German Shepherd. It should be a happy place where they associate positive experiences. Regarding crate size, German Shepherds should have an extra-large one, no smaller than 48 inches. This allows for enough space for your dog to move around and stretch out without being too confined to a small area. You need a metal or wire crate, preferably a heavy-duty one that will be impossible to break as German Shepherds are strong dogs. Most metal crates will fold down, making them easily transportable, and you can opt for either a single or double door or both, depending on how you wish to position the crate. I like the Midwest Homes for Pets dog crate as it comes with the option of double doors, has a divider panel, and is easy to set up. You can read more about why I like this crate in this article, 8 Best Dog Crates for German Shepherds and Playpens Nonetheless, a crate on its own will not just turn into a safe haven for your dog and keep him entertained. It can be as big as the whole crate, or you could leave half of it uncovered for them to move around easier and leave some space for them to cool down on the tray if they get too warm. Either way, you need to make it cozy, and washable soft bedding is essential to allow them to lay down comfortably. One way of solving all these problems is to go for the Big Barker crate pad. Plenty of toys. Imagine being stuck in a small room for hours and hours with nothing to do. Providing them with various interesting chew and interactive toys, such as KONG toys , will prevent them from becoming bored. Food and water. Purchase clip-on bowls to prevent them from being tipped over. A blanket to cover the crate. Place a blanket or cover over the top of the crate. This makes the crate feel more like a den and can help your dog feel more secure, especially if he is clingy. As long as they have food, water, and shelter, such as a large dog house, they should be able to adapt fairly quickly. This can be done; however, it will require lots of training, patience, and a gradual transition. Get dog gates for your house. These gates allow you to decide how much space your puppy can have to move around in your house by sectioning off various off-limit areas. Purchase indoor or outdoor dog fences or playpens for your puppy. These products are perfect for young GSDs who need more room to move around. Some of these can even be connected to a crate to make a fantastic combination of a cozy resting space and room to roam. If you have a higher budget or need a playpen, look at the BestPet Dog Pen. Slowly train your German Shepherd to roam free throughout the house. This process will take some time, from puppyhood into adulthood. You can start by initially leaving the crate door open when you go out or gradually increasing the size of their gated area until it fits the size of a room. My GSD, Willow, was 12 months old before I started leaving her crate door open and two years old before she was allowed free reign of the house. However, it is important to gradually increase the time they spend outside the crate and to provide them with plenty of exercises and mental stimulation when they are out of the crate. It is also important to ensure that your German Shepherd has access to water and a comfortable place to rest when they are in the crate. It is also recommended to cover the crate with a blanket or sheet to create a den-like environment and provide your dog with a sense of security. Using a crate can be a helpful tool for managing separation anxiety in German Shepherds. However, it is important to introduce the crate gradually and make it a positive and comfortable space for your dog. You should also avoid leaving your dog in the crate for extended periods of time and provide them with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation when they are out of the crate. Bedding When I first started crate training Allie, I bought a nice, fluffy bed for her to sleep on while in her crate — bad idea! For a puppy, I recommend buying something a bit more durable and a bit less fluffy. Toys Toys are great for a puppy learning to love its crate. It gives your pup something to do other than chew up the bedding and teaches it that crate time is fun! Just remember, eventually, your puppy will be left unsupervised in its crate for extended periods of time. So any toys you choose for its crate must be safe! Allie loved gnawing on her Kong while in her crate. Treats Speaking of treats, make sure to keep plenty of treats on hand to use as rewards. A crate cover will help your dog feel safe and keep it from being disturbed by its humans walking by. You can purchase a crate cover or even use a towel or bedsheet. Keep in mind, never cover all sides of the crate — your dog needs plenty of ventilation. As I mentioned before, the most important part of crate training is teaching your puppy to LOVE its crate! How do you do this? Use lots of treats, patience, and praise to show your dog that learning is fun. Put the crate in a room where your puppy spends a lot of time and prop the door open or remove the door altogether. You can add a crate mat and toy, but then back off and let the puppy investigate the crate casually — no pressure! Your puppy may explore immediately, going in and out of the crate to sniff around. But if not, you can encourage it with a few treats or toys near the front of the crate. Be patient until your puppy is bold enough to go all the way inside its crate without any nervousness. Use during mealtime Once your pup is comfortable with wandering in and out of its crate, pair mealtime with crate time. Adding a food reward reinforces those positive associations you want to build between your puppy and its crate. Start by regularly feeding your puppy next to the crate, then slowly work the food dish into the crate at the front, then further back. Close the crate Once your pup is happily chowing down while standing all the way inside the crate, start closing the door during mealtime — but just until dinner is over! Open the door again as soon as your pup is finished eating. Then, close the door. Stay near the crate for several minutes, then go into another room for a few minutes. When you return, sit near the crate again for a few more minutes before opening the door. Repeat this step until your puppy is comfortable in its crate for at least 30 minutes without you in sight. This may take several days or even weeks so be patient! Crating when you leave Now your puppy is ready to try crating while home alone for short periods of time at first. Make sure to give your puppy a potty break before crating for an extended period of time. Stick to your normal routine for crating — use a command to get your dog to enter the crate, praise your dog briefly, give them a treat, and then leave quietly. Keep it low-key when you return as well. Wait a few minutes before letting your puppy out of its crate and try to ignore any excited behavior. Crating overnight Before attempting an overnight stay in the crate, make sure your puppy is tired and ready for sleep. Lots of exercise and playtime before bed will help. Give your puppy a chance to potty immediately before bedtime. Again, use your normal routine for crating command, praise, treat. Once your puppy is happily snoozing through the night, you can move the crate wherever you prefer. Only keep puppy-safe items in the crate at night. A regular daily routine is important in training your puppy, and consistency is key! Puppies learn best through repetition so create a puppy crate training schedule and stick to it. Temperament and Personality These dogs are attention seekers, loving to be close to their family members, also following them wherever they go, a trait well-inherited from both their parents. Being easy-going, they mingle well with children of all ages, loving to play with them, though adults should supervise because of their small size of these dogs. They are also excellent with canine and noncanine pets, but owing to their short stature, they should not be left alone with big dogs. Having a great sense of humor, the fun-loving Frugs are natural charmers, always desiring to entertain and please their owners in every way they can. The French Bulldog Pug mixes cannot thrive well in too warm or very close temperature. Inheriting the curiosity of their parents, particularly the Pug, they are curious about all that is going on around them. They get along well with strangers, though the guard dog instinct inherent in their genes could be triggered if not given proper training. Care Exercise These moderately active dogs would do fine when taken for a leisurely walk on a regular basis. However, they cannot stand excessive exercise. The Frenchie Pug puppies are more active than the older dogs that have a calm disposition loving to relax in apartments. However, engage them in some activity of the other as they get dejected on being left alone. Grooming Owing to their short coats, these dogs need very less grooming. However, brush them once a week to remove the dead hairs from their coat. Bathe your pet when he gets dirty, or to get rid of the hassle of bathing, you can wipe his body with a wet cloth. Make sure to keep the wrinkles on their face dry to prevent infection of any kind. Check their ears and do not let excessive wax accumulate. Their nails are also to be kept clean to ensure proper hygiene. Health Problems Though they are healthy, they might suffer from some of the common ailments of their parents. Patellar luxation, cataract, glaucoma, hip dysplasia, allergies, breathing difficulties, and entropion are a few of them Training Obedience: As it tends to get stubborn and willful, just like its parents, giving it obedience training since its puppy days is essential. Watchdog training: As it is intelligent and courageous similar to the French bulldog, you can train him to be a good watchdog. Acquaint him with different people and experiences so that he can differentiate normal circumstances from suspicious ones. Tricks: As it always desires to amuse and charm its owners, you can take this opportunity and teach it skills like walking backward. After he has performed the trick, give him lots of praises and pats or even a treat. Feeding The Frenchie Pug will need about one and a half to two cups of dry dog food every day. Overfeeding them might make them obese. These pups are irresistible, especially at a young age, but before you head to the breeder, you should know what to expect from your Frenchie Pug puppy. First and most importantly, know that Frenchie Pug puppies are not easy to train. This breed can be stubborn and a bit strong-willed, so be prepared to dedicate some time to teaching them the basics. This includes commands like sit, stay, and come, but it also includes housebreaking. These things often take more time with Frenchie Pugs than they do with other breeds, so you must have patience and be consistent with training. You should also know that since Frenchie Pugs inherit traits from both French Bulldogs and Pugs, their appearance can vary quite a bit based on which parent they resemble more. Frenchie Pugs Come From Royal Ancestors You know that Frenchie Pugs are the offspring of a French Bulldog and a Pug, but what you may not know is that their Pug ancestors were believed to be the preferred companion dog of Chinese royalty. Unlike most mixed breeds that can inherit personality traits and behavioral tendencies from one or both parent breeds and ultimately vary quite a bit, the Frenchie Pug comes from two pretty similar parent breeds. What this means for you is that you can rest assured that the dog you welcome into your family will be loving, affectionate, playful, energetic, and needy. Knowing what to expect in terms of the temperament of your dog is very important to some people, so this is definitely a positive feature of this crossbreed. Frenchie Pugs Are Good for Apartment Living Finding a dog that is suitable to live with you in an apartment can be challenging for many reasons, but one of the biggest is barking. If you do live in an apartment where noise is a big issue, the Frenchie Pug may be perfect for you. This breed is generally very quiet and barks very rarely. If your routine will leave your Frenchie Pug at home alone for long stretches, this may not be the best type of dog for you. The more human interaction and attention your Frenchie Pug gets, the happier they will be. Are These Dogs Good for Families? In fact, while some breeds are simply good for families and children, Frenchie Pugs thrive in a family environment. Socialization early on will aid in cultivating this kind of calm and accepting personality, but your Frenchie Pug will likely have these traits naturally. Like all breeds, Frenchie Pugs should be eating a high-protein diet that includes healthy fats and complex carbohydrates. No specific diet restrictions exist with this breed, so any high-quality commercial dog food will do. It should be noted that high-quality food is key, as low-tier dog foods that contain fillers can lead to health problems for any breed. This is particularly important for dogs like the Frenchie Pug who is genetically predisposed to medical issues already. Many small dogs are prone to overeating and obesity, and the Frenchie Pug is no exception. One minute walk each day or a few minute walks on a daily basis will be perfect for this breed and will help minimize weight gain. To put it simply, Frenchie Pugs are pretty lazy dogs, and as long as they get their recommended walking time in each day, they will happily lie on the couch with you or sit with you while you work or watch TV. Routine walking will keep your puppy in tip-top shape. However, these dogs are also strong-willed and can offer up some serious difficulty for inexperienced dog owners. Like we mentioned earlier, the French Bulldog Pug mix normally takes a bit longer to get housebroken, so expect to put in some additional effort to get your pup to this point. This will make your job and your life a whole lot easier. Shedding is, however, one downside to this breed, as Frenchie Pugs do tend to shed quite a bit. While you may not have to brush your pup too often, you should be prepared to vacuum regularly. Since Frenchie Pugs inherit some of their physical traits from their wrinkly Pug parent breed, your dog may have skin folds that require regular cleaning to prevent infection. This largely depends on how much of that adorable wrinkliness your Frenchie Pug exhibits; physical traits can vary on an individual level. Lastly, regular grooming practices like teeth and ear cleaning every other week or so will go a long way in preventing tooth and gum issues as well as ear infections. French Bulldogs and Pugs are not known for their heartiness, and their common ailments can be seen in this breed as well. Regular vet visits are essential for the French Bulldog Pug Mix, and your pup may require more testing and medical screening than other breeds. This can lead to higher-than-normal vet bills, so be aware of this and the below common conditions found in this breed. Minor Conditions Eyelid issues like entropion and ectropion Patellar Luxation. Frug Description The Frenchie Pug is not a purebred dog. It is a cross between the French Bulldog and the Pug. The best way to determine the temperament of a mixed breed is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed. It is very common for breeders to breed multi-generation crosses. Their mother is a brindle French Bulldog and their father is a fawn Pug. He enjoys play dates with his best friend Ginger who is a Corgi. They play for hours chasing playing tug of war and wrestling. Banx is a cuddler, and loves being by my side. What a gift, a true blessing. He was the best birthday present for me. He also thinks he is a guard dog, but warms up very quickly to the guests; he will even sneak a kiss in if he can. He loves to go rollerblading and running like a wild man with other dogs in the park, but his favorite things to do are eat and sleep. When he passes out, he snores very loudly, and there's no waking him up. She is very devoted, and hasn't got a drop of aggression in her. Very balanced dog. Very clever too. Robber the second-generation white and black Frenchie Pug puppy at 4 months old See more examples of the Frenchie Pug. Hundreds of abandoned and abused dogs are surrendered so there might be a chance for you to find a French Bulldog Pug here. Brush the hair with firm bristles at least once a week to get rid of dead hairs. You can use a wet cloth to wipe off a speck of dirt or bathe your dog entirely if he becomes all grubby and grimy. Always see to it that the creases on the face are thoroughly dried up to prevent any infection. Clean both ears and trim their nails regularly. French Bulldog Pugs Health Problems It is typical for hybrids like the Pug and French bulldog Combination to inherit the health condition that has afflicted the parent breed. Being born hale and hearty is not always a guarantee that they will not develop the same problem. Screening tests are now available to help breeders determine which dog to breed. Ultimately, you need to be conscious and be able to recognize the signs for these illnesses. Glaucoma is caused by high pressure that builds up in the eye. This may impair the optic nerve and can result in total blindness. It usually starts with just one eye and can progress into the other. Cataracts affect the lens of the eyes, making them dense and opaque. The most common cause is genetic. Diabetic dogs are more vulnerable and prone to develop this disease. Eye injury and infection are also common causes. Allergies or allergic reaction whether from food or the season may be in progress if you notice an increase in scratching, licking, and chewing. Entropion is when the eyelashes, including the skin around the eye, have direct contact with the cornea. Therefore, it is your responsibility to look after the welfare of your Pug French bulldog. It is essential that you limit activities that may lead to excessive physical exertion. Keep in mind that these mongrels are also unable to swim so try to keep them away from pools or puddles. Exposure to direct sunlight and excessive heat can make them susceptible to illnesses so make sure that you monitor their temperature. They will even warm up quickly to strangers as long as they have been properly socialized. If the other parent breed has a similar temperament, then you should be able to expect the same from a French Bulldog Mix. You can also meet the mother in person to see what her temperament is like and the behavior she is modeling for the puppies. The breeder should have started some training and socialization, but it is up to you to continue to train and socialize a puppy once you get them home. Frenchies are highly adaptable dogs. They do well in apartments as well as larger homes. However, as a brachycephalic breed, they are extra sensitive to heat and also sensitive to the cold. They also do not like being left alone for long periods of time. If the other parent breed is similar, then you can expect a Frenchie Mix to also be a highly adaptable dog. The other parent will introduce their own traits and some potential quirks, so you do want to ask the breeder about them. They could inherit none of the conditions common to their parent breeds, or they could inherit some or all of them. They can also be prone to allergies, have sensitive skin, and also a sensitive stomach. Good breeding practices will make a huge difference. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing issues to puppies. So, make sure you ask about the health and genetic history of both of the parents. Although French Bulldogs can sometimes be stubborn, they are eager to please and tend to be easy to train. As long as training is consistent and focused on positive praise and reward, they can be a good fit for owners of all experience levels. As a small dog breed, a Frenchie Mix is more prone to developing dental diseases later in life. This makes good, consistent dental care for dogs even more important for them. Daily brushing with a dog-friendly toothpaste or using an enzyme toothpaste paired with cleanings at the vet when needed is ideal. Frenchies are known couch potato dogs that are happy to lay back, relax, and cuddle with you. Daily walks plus some playtime are usually enough for this affectionate little dog. Even though they like to relax, they also like to play and will be energetic when they do. They can also be athletic and compete in dog sports. But, there are plenty of ways to safely exercise flat-faced dogs to make sure your French Bulldog Mix gets enough exercise. If the other parent breed is also a low-energy breed, then you can expect something similar from a Frenchie Mix. If the other parent breed requires more activity, then you will need to be prepared for the potential of a higher energy dog. Fully-grown Frenchies usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. We are sure that this guide will be useful and interesting for you. In this lesson, we will show how to draw a Labrador. We can safely say that this is one of the most charming dog breeds. Labradors are active, friendly, balanced and easy to train. It is dogs of this breed that are most often used as a nurse, guide, and companion. Labrador quickly becomes a pet and gets along well with people and other animals in the house. Labrador is a large dog with a strong physique. Labrador has a large head, hanging ears and kind, smart eyes. You see all these features in the figure, and now you have to draw the same dog. Time needed: 1 hour How to Draw a Labrador Prepare the base. Draw three circles of different sizes, and thus indicate the location and size of the main parts of the body. Add the back and limbs. Depict a smooth line that connects the head with the rest of the body and smoothly passes into the tail. Use thin lines to mark the location of the limbs. Depict the lower outline of the torso. Draw a smooth line at the bottom and thus depict the neck, belly and lower part of the tail. Draw the front part of the muzzle. Be careful in this step and try to draw the front of the muzzle correctly. Draw the big nose and draw the upper jaw with a smooth curved line. Sketch out the rest of the muzzle. Draw two eyes that are almond shaped, and add the lower jaw with one smooth line. Depict the ears. The Labrador has soft hanging ears. Draw the front paws. Use guidelines to draw the two front paws. Try to correctly portray all the bends on the paws. Add the lower parts of the front paws. Depict the contour of each foot, add the fingers with short strokes and add the small claws on each paw. Depict the hind legs. The hind legs have a wide base and a narrow lower part. Be careful when you draw bends in the joint of the joints. Add the lower parts of the hind legs. The feet on the hind legs have the same shape as on the front paws, and drawing these parts of the body should not cause difficulties. Correct inaccuracies. All contours of the body are already drawn, and now it remains to remove the extra lines and make the drawing more clear. Color the Labrador. Use beige to color the fur and do not forget to draw shadows so that the pattern looks more realistic. If you want to use a different color, you can color the Labrador in brown or black. After you performed all the steps in these instructions, you can evaluate the result of your work. We hope that you correctly painted all the parts of the body of Labrador and you have a great drawing. If this lesson was useful for you, then leave a little review. Begin by drawing the dog's eyes. Use curved lines to outline the rounded square shape of the eyes, similar to anime eyes. Shade a large circle within each to indicate the pupil. Then, draw curved lines above the eyes to indicate the lids and brow. Note the tuft of fur on the inner side of the brow. Easy Labrador Drawing - Step 2 2. Draw the puppy's nose and mouth. Use curved lines to enclose the nose; notice that it is slightly pointed on each side. Draw two small circles within the nose to indicate the nostrils. Draw a wide "W" shaped line below the nose to form the mouth. Finally, draw curved lines on each side of the nose and at the corners of the mouth. Easy Labrador Drawing - Step 3 3. Enclose the tongue using a large "U" shaped line, and texture the center with a curved line. Enclose the open mouth with curved lines on each side of the tongue. Draw a line below it as well. Then, use overlapping curved lines to sketch the ear and top of the head. Easy Labrador Drawing - Step 4 4. Complete the ear with a curved line that doubles back upon itself, overlapping the existing ear. Then, use another line to draw the side of the head. Create a near-mirror image on the opposite side using curved lines. Easy Labrador Drawing - Step 5 5. Draw curved lines overlapping each side of the head to create the neck. Draw another set of overlapping curved lines to form the shoulders. On one side, draw one more overlapping curved line to outline the chest and belly. Add a series of short curved lines in a "V" shape to texture the fur of the chest. Easy Labrador Drawing - Step 6 6. Use long curved lines to outline the lab's legs. Notice how the lines overlap at the feet to form the toes. Easy Labrador Drawing - Step 7 7. Complete the foreleg, again noting the overlapping curved lines that create the toes of the paw. Then, use overlapping curved lines to sketch the crouching rear leg. Use curved lines to sketch the dog's back, rear paw, and remaining rear leg. Complete the remaining rear paw using a series of overlapping curved lines. Then use long curved lines to draw the fluffy tail. Notice the jagged points at the end that indicate fur. We've shaded ours a blonde or sandy color, making it a yellow lab. There are also black labs and chocolate labs. The latter are brown in color. The Time-Lapse Speed Drawing video: The Written step-by-step video tutorial: For the first few steps, don't press down too hard with your pencil. Use light, smooth strokes to begin. Step 1: Draw a big circle as a guide for the Labrador retriever dog's head. First make four small marks to indicate the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines to create the shape of the circle. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. If you're struggling to draw the circle, trace the outer rim of a glass, a bowl or any other object with a circular edge. For a more detailed guide on the different ways to draw a circle check out this tutorial: Four simple ways to draw a circle. Step 2: Draw a long, curved, horizontal line across the circle to help you place the Labrador retriever's facial features later. On top of the horizontal line, near the left side, draw a shorter, curved, vertical line for another guide. Step 3: Draw a small circle on the lower, left side as a guide for the Labrador retriever's muzzle. Use the four-marks technique to draw this circle too. Place it directly below the horizontal guide. The lower, left side of this circle should be outside the edge of the big circle. Step 4: Add the guide for the dog's first ear by first drawing a long, vertical line on the right side. At the top, draw a line that slopes diagonally to the right. Pay attention to the length of these lines. Draw a line at the bottom that connects the first two lines to create a big triangle and finish the guide for the Labrador retriever's ear. Step 5: On the left side, draw a long, angled line as a guide for the Lab's other ear. The head is blocking most of this ear, so don't draw the whole triangle guide. July 23, 3 min read 7 Comments Hi everybody and welcome to a new tutorial on the NIL-tech, this time entitled "How to draw Labrador puppy". A puppy is a juvenile canine, whose size differs amongst types. All healthy pups grow rapidly after birth. In vernacular English, puppy refers particularly to pets while puppy might typically be utilized for other animals such as seals, giraffes, gerbils, or perhaps rats. As normal I'll ask you 2 start this challenging illustration with 2 extremely basic building lines. One circle and one oval. It could not get much easier than this! Step 2. The circle will act as a guide for the head of the puppy while the oval will be the body. It is extremely important when you draw a puppy to obtain the snout right and the huge cushioned feet. The snout will assist us as a place and scale the components of the face while the cushioned feet will direct the illustration of the legs. In this case, the puppy will be drawn seen from the three-quarter front. Step 3. Overall shapes. Another 2 important qualities of the face are the long ears so adorable and the real nose. If you get these components best you are a long method in drawing a good puppy. So sketch the ears in looking after drawing them long and floppy and the little doggy nose. Step 4. Utilizing a number of building and construction lines identify the mid-side of the head and the height of the eyes than sketching them in. Likewise the line of the mouth. Usage recommendation and this illustration as a guide! Step 5. Now a little bit of rest. Step 6. The drawing actually begins coming together when you begin eliminating the building and construction lines. Exactly what do you believe up until now? Eliminate the larger building and construction lines and see how your puppy appears. Think it or not the tough part is ended up. Step 7. Complete the illustration. You do not wish to overwhelm the illustration with lines to render the fur. So include furry lines occasionally, combine the shapes of the illustration, include information when it requires. Step 8. As you see the technique is to include a little bit of shadow to contrast the illustration and constantly include it aiming to mimic the existence of fur. Brief fur in this case. Locations of shadows assist to specify volumes. Do not include them arbitrarily however utilize them too much better specify volumes and lighting of the scene. Step 9. Keep doing it and include information in the meanwhile. The completed outcome!! We really hope you enjoyed this tutorial! Materials needed to draw the Puppy Drawing paper. Drawing is a skill that comes naturally to some, but most of us need a little help. Very few people can start in the corner of a picture and line by line produce a great work of art in the manner of a printer. Most great artists break down their drawings into steps. Basic outlines and simple shapes are built upon, until the canvas is filled with something spectacular. In these instructions each new section will be in red to help you focus on the part at hand. Pencil, pen and paper ready? Step 1 Take your pencil and piece of paper. Draw three circles. The central circle should be slightly bigger than the other two. The middle circle will be her torso. The bottom circle, intersecting the torso, will be her hips. Make a cross in each circle, placed towards the lower right hand side. These marks will help you to add features later on. Use your cross to place them in the right area. The eyes will go in each of the top segments. The nose will rest on the centre of your cross. Let the tongue and muzzle placement hang into the middle circle. Step 3 We are now going to add some bigger features. Working from one side of the head to the other, make sure they hang down no further than the base of the top circle. They should fall just lower than your horizontal line. The tail will wave up from the top left hand side of the bottom circle. The hind leg will rest in the middle of that circle. The right left will sit snugly next to it. You are going to make two new lines. One for the slop of his back and nape of his neck. The other will define his front. Add a last little line between those two legs. This gives him a bit more character and texture. So go ahead and draw a half cloud shape on his chest. Add in his left front leg, with a small paw pointing off to the side. Gently touch your paper to make sure your ink is dry. Step 7 Grab that pencil again! We are going to give your pup some definition. Using soft, light strokes shade in the areas shown in pink on the image. Congratulations on your gorgeous doggy drawing! Even copying to a format is a learned skill in part. After all — practice makes perfect! And with practice, anyone can learn how to draw a Labrador of their own. With thanks to Toby Mattinson Animation for the Labrador illustrations. Depict two figures, as shown in the figure, using curved lines for this. Add the front of the head and the facial features. Draw two symmetrical ovals inside the outline of the head, as well as several curved lines. On the right and left sides of the head, depict two symmetrical ears using curved lines. Depict the neck and elements on the face. Using curved lines, connect the outlines of the head and torso, add points in front of the head. Draw the front limbs. At the bottom of the previously drawn torso, depict two symmetrical paws using curved lines. In the back of the torso, depict the paws using curved lines. The front partially closes one paw. Next to the previously drawn hind legs, draw a long, curved line, as shown in the figure. Correct inaccuracies. Now you need to use the eraser to remove all unnecessary lines. Color the drawing. To color the black Lab, use different shades of gray and black, and add highlights. For your convenience, I have prepared a PDF file that contains all the useful information from this lesson, as well as additional practice materials that will help you develop your artistic abilities.

By neutering this puppy you are basically destroying its future Would you consider neutering this puppy? The RSPCA spays and castrates at this age, and apparently believes it is ethically and morally acceptable to do so. As do some breeders, rescue centres and a few vets. There is a breeder in Cardiff who was called Lisa Carson now remarried and so not Carson anymore but now Lisa Joyaa Rose I would recommend that no one buys any dogs or puppies from this woman. She neuters her Labradoodle pups, both standard and minis, at six to seven weeks of age. She states it is a contractual obligation from the Australian Labradoodle Association. Simple, do not be part of an organisation that suggests this horrific practice. There are only a few members in the UK and as far as I am concerned they are barbaric animal abusers. She is not the only breeder in this country to follow this disgraceful practice. I really hope she can sleep at night. However, I know of no other breed other than Australian Labradoodle where this is happening on a regular basis. She states it is to keep the bloodline pure. Unless I am sadly mistaken, Labradoodles are not pedigree dogs, they are what is euphemistically known as mongrels. The two main kennels involved in the breeding of these dogs in Australia have apparently been discredited. And I believe are no longer operating or trading. Why is it only Australian Labradoodle breeders do this? If I was a cynic, I would say they did it to limit the number of Australian Labradoodle puppies on the market. Thereby keeping the vastly inflated prices artificially high. More profit for the breeders. How dare they? Is that why these dogs are so ludicrously priced? Some for breeding purposes have been sold for far higher amounts. Choose a puppy who has been neutered at this age at your peril. See what the leading rescue charities and the Kennel Club have to say about this disgusting practice at the bottom of this page. I wrote this article in and this woman is still peddling her bundles of misery in .Neutering is one of the reasons this is happening. See my article and Video Clips on how to stop this. In nearly all cases aggression increased with neutering in both male and female dogs. The opposite of what we have regularly been told. If they imagine that it has no effect on the young pups then why is it that my records show that early neutering is the cause of high levels of medical and behavioural problems? That and the fact that many well-known vets and oncologists are stating that dogs that are neutered early can have severe medical conditions, cancer, spay incontinence, bone, hip, and knee problem are just some of them. Welfare organisation and the Kennel Club have stated their horror at learning this was done to puppies at this age. If you are concerned about this and other aspects of health, then read this as well I have recently written about the very real dangers of Annual Vaccinations. Read this and prepare to be shocked and frightened regarding the health and well-being of your dog. The picture on the right shows a three-week-old puppy. Would you 3 weeks later, take this pup from it mum and put it through a major operation? I saw some posts on a forum recently where this breeder in Wales Lisa Carson trotted out a previous client to confirm that the dogs she bought were perfectly healthy. That client was warned by many people including myself, but still went ahead and bought these puppies. She conveniently forgot to mention that one of them has Hip Dysplasia. When it was pointed out, she said her vet said it, was because of the way it was lying in the womb. If you believe that you will believe anything. She is still defending her decision to buy puppies that were neutered at such a tender age. I wonder if they have any idea why these puppies are born with three essential hormones. Progesterone, Oestrogen and Testosterone. Do they imagine those hormones are surplus to requirements, just an inconvenient extra that has been thrown in like the Sat Nav on a car? Imagine the outcry if it was done to our children at such a sensitive period in these puppies lives. Tinkering with nature at such a young age must have a cost and consequences I believe that it has severe and life-changing effects. As a Dog Behaviourist, I see the effects these actions have on the well-being, health and behaviour of these poor dogs. I kept records of all the dogs I treated for behavioural problems post onwards. The majority of the problem dogs I treated, were neutered before they reached social and physical maturity. The amount and severity of problems I saw increased exponentially the earlier the dog was neutered It beggars belief that any organisation. To put them through a major operation at such a critical and tender age is a national disgrace. In my humble opinion, I believe it constitutes serious animal abuse. I believe these actions may contravene the Animal Welfare Act of .The bill, possibly the most important legislative move on captive and domestic animals since the Protection of Animals Act of , came into effect on 6th April .It makes owners and keepers responsible for ensuring that the welfare needs of their animals are met. These requirements include the following: The need: 1. For a suitable environment place to live 2. For a suitable diet 3. To exhibit normal behaviour patterns 4. To be housed with, or apart from, other animals if applicable 5. To be protected from pain, injury, suffering and disease I believe the RSPCA needs investigating, as I feel it may be abusing its status as a charity, by what I can only describe as intimidation. Acting as if they have official status when they have no more powers than any other member of the general public. We donate to help real cats and real dogs, NOT fat cats and dirty dogs! You could be the next innocent victim of their war on pet owners Stan Rawlinson September .Updated regularly as further information on neutering is made public. Last update July Read further articles. Castration will prevent your dog from being able to mate with a female dog, resulting in pregnancy, and it also may curtail undesirable behaviour. We also recommend that your pet is protected against lungworm before his surgery and we suggest applying Advocate treatment at least one month before his surgery is booked. Benefits of neutering a male dog Eliminates the risk of your pet developing testicular cancer, which is the second most common tumour in male dogs. This is particularly important if your dog is found to have a cryptorchid undescended testicle. Castrating your pet will prevent your pet from developing this condition. However, if during the surgery we find any abnormality of the womb, we will undertake a full OVH at no extra charge and it should be noted that this may be more likely in older pets. We also recommend that your pet is protected against lungworm before her surgery and we suggest applying Advocate treatment at least one month before the date or her surgery. Benefits of neutering a female dog Spaying your dog can reduce the chance of her developing mammary gland tumour breast cancer , the most common type of malignant tumour in female dogs. This effect is directly associated with the timing of surgery, with the maximum protective effect achieved if your dog is spayed before her first season and it has been shown that this protective effect is reduced after the first season and with each subsequent season. Spaying your dog also eliminates the risk of your pet developing an infection of the womb pyometra , a life-threatening condition that often requires emergency surgery when the patient is very ill. Pyometra is a very common condition and studies have shown that one in four unspayed female dogs will develop pyometra by the age of ten years old. Although pregnancy and whelping are natural processes, just as with humans, things can go wrong and can be dangerous for your pet. Many dogs need assisted births, which can result in large veterinary bills. Neutering eliminates the risk of accidental pregnancy and its associated health risks and costs. It also avoids the necessity of finding homes for puppies, when shelter charities already have to deal with too many unwanted dogs. Unspayed dogs will come into heat, which usually happens every six months. During this time she will be attractive to male dogs and will be pursued and harassed by them for up 10 days. Neutering will prevent your pet coming into heat and the inconvenience and difficulties of keeping her separate from male dogs. Once a female dog has had a season, she will go on to produce pregnancy hormones, whether she has been mated or not. Occasionally these signs can be severe and need veterinary treatment to resolve. When to Get a Labradoodle Spayed My Miniature Labradoodle Max wearing a stylish rain coat It has been usual practice to spay your dog as soon as the animal can endure the anesthetic in recent years. However, this raises the question- How do I know my labradoodle can handle the anesthesia? There are widespread health concerns that spaying at the wrong age can lead to the development of complications. The American Animal Hospital Association advocates that you should spay puppies between 5 and 15 months old. However, it would help if you did not take this as a definite answer. Some vets recommend spaying before first heat Usually happens when the Labradoodle is around five months , while others believe this increases the risk of breast tumors. We always recommend getting a personalized assessment from your veterinarian. If you put off getting the procedure or adopt an older, unaltered Labradoodle, you must consider her heat cycle before surgery. When your dog is in heat, your veterinarian is unlikely to propose spaying. During this time, more blood flows to the area in question, complicating the surgery. As a Labradoodle owner, you should understand that this procedure has some risks. It would be best if you talked to your veterinarian about the optimum time to perform this procedure. Spend time with your veterinarian talking about your worries and aspirations for your labradoodle. Do not be hesitant to inquire. We feel that providing your veterinarian with the most up-to-date and accurate information is the best way to determine the ideal time for spaying your labradoodle. There are numerous reasons to spay your Labradoodle, the most important is that it will improve their quality of life. To begin with, you will have a happy and healthy Labradoodle. Spaying has proved to lower the risk of breast cancer, urinary incontinence, mammary tumors, joint problems, and uterine infections. Complications that are associated with pregnancy, like dystocia , are also eliminated. You can expect the behavior of your dog to be top-notch. Spaying will ensure that you will not have to relinquish your Labradoodle due to behavioral problems like aggression towards other people. Spaying a dog reduces the risk of unappealing smell associated with a dog in heat. Lastly, it will be convenient for you. You will not have to worry about raising other puppies when your pet gives birth. How a Labradoodle Gets Spayed A veterinarian will evaluate your Labradoodle and, in most cases, run a pre-anesthetic blood test. An anesthetic will be delivered if everything goes well. Most dogs will have an intravenous catheter to provide the anesthesia and offer fluid therapy during the surgery. This tube will allow oxygen and gas anesthetics to be delivered directly into the lungs. When it comes to the actual surgery, there are two options. The vet can perform an ovariohysterectomy or an ovariectomy. An ovariohysterectomy involves removing the Labradoodles ovary and uterus. An ovariectomy only removes the ovaries. Before and During Surgery A Parti Labradoodle in this cause black and white When you finally decide to spay your dog, here is what you should do before the surgery: Ensure your Labradoodle is clean before you take her to the procedure- the cleanliness of your pet can play a role in the safety of your pet during the surgery. These precautions, among other things, assist in determining whether or not your pet is ready for the treatment. During the surgery, there will be a team of veterinarians and technicians actively monitoring your pet. Surgery Aftercare You can expect your Labradoodle to take approximately two weeks to recover after spaying. Here are some pointers to help your Labradoodle recover fast and relax comfortably after spaying. At home, allow your dog to recover in a warm, quiet space of its choosing if possible to increase comfort and reduce stress. Administer food, medication , and water as directed. Limit outdoor exposure to supervised and, if required, assisted restroom breaks for at least 24 hours after leaving the hospital. Constant movement can bring about fluid accumulation under the incision. Observe the cut for signs of infection, such as redness or swelling. Do not let your Labradoodle mess with its stitches. Your veterinarian will likely send your labradoodle home with an Elizabeth collar or dog cone alternative to ensure they do not tamper with the stitches. Depending on the stitch material used, stitches will need to be removed after seven to ten days. Your veterinarian will tell you how to verify that the incision is healing correctly and when you should return for the final check. After a given amount of time, some contemporary stitches fall out on their own. In case of any complications, feel free to contact your veterinarian. On the lower end, there are low-cost spay clinics spread across the country. These low-cost facilities lack state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, which may expose your pet to more risk. If you use a low-cost service, make sure you understand what is inclusive before and after surgery. If the low-cost program only covers the surgery, you may need to see your regular veterinarian for a follow-up session. As a general rule, price should not be the controlling factor when choosing a place to spay your Labradoodle. It would help if you treated her like you would treat a companion. Talk to your veterinarian. They will advise you accordingly on your alternatives. Can Labradoodles smile? Get Started on Spaying Your Labradoodle! Spaying is a life-altering procedure. Post by Doglistener » Sun Apr 13, am Treacletoffee wrote: I can only respond on my experiences. Toffee my male dog was castrated before I bought him six weeks it was part of the contractual deal. Toffee is the most perfect dood, always has been from pup to adulthood. Very calm has his doodle dashes and playful moments , not destructive, didn't need much training all seemed to come naturally very intelligent, wasn't one for running off perfect, very affectionate loves nothing better than to lie at you feet and be fussed. I have seen other male dogs that have been castrated at a later date, one of the things I noticed is they have a developed penis. Toffees is nearly none existent. This may sound daft as I am ignorant in this field. I was wondering is there a difference in an older dog being castrated e. I hope this makes sense Hi Treacle Toffee The results of very early neutering affects dogs in many ways and some hardly at all. May I just ask a couple of questions how old is Toffee, does he cock his leg, Does he appear leggier than most of the doodles you have seen, with a narrower head and lighter bone structure and narrowed chest. Is he active or somewhat over-calm. Does he hunt or tend to mope about. Is he interested in games and the natural inclination to hunt which is inherent in these dogs. To some extent you have described the perfect dog. But one that may not be acting as this breed should be acting. I sometimes see some of these that appear almost depressed and prone to noise. Many of the females are fearful as is some of the males. I must comment that if these breeders performed tubal ligation or vasectomy to protect their line. Then I think I could accept it more readily, as it is I would never ever buy from a breeder that insists on major surgery on a puppy of this age. I have to say that to my mind they tend to put their own livelihood first and the puppies second, I also believe they have not researched the facts and the possible negative outcomes of this practice. I am not a breeder I never have been and I never will be. But if I was, I think I would have more respect for the needs of these young dogs, and allow them to reach social and physical maturity, before putting them through the trauma of major surgery when they should still be with their litter-mates and mother. I May be wrong but I personally believe these actions may be driven by financial considerations. Once again Carole G has given a measured and intelligent response and pointed out the very real risks of this operation at such an early age, coupled with the fact that the pups immune system is not up to speed at this age, and the fact we are weakening there resistance by surgery before their initial vaccination and booster. It is a medical fact that neutering can increase the risk of an adverse reaction to vaccinations. My thoughts on vaccinations especially annually is a whole different ball game. Coupled with the fact that Hypothyroidism is far more common in early neutered dogs as is infectious diseases especially when spayed or castrated before 24 weeks. I think it is a no-brainer I believe what we should be doing is trying to insist that further scientific investigations should be performed, but in the meantime whilst we are awaiting these results which could take some time then we make our voice be known that this practice should cease until further scientific and peer reviewed clinical investigations have been completed. Which will refute these finding or confirm them. It stops excessive and unacceptable sexual behaviour towards bitches, people and inanimate objects Medically it prevents testicular tumours and reduces the possibility of perianal adenoma or prostatic hyperplasia. Surgical Suit I recommend a surgical suit for a female recovery. For males a surgical suit can also be worn or a pair of boys underwear with the 'hole' for the tail. This is to ensure the breed is developed properly by committed breeders. Young dogs recover quickly from the neuter procedure wanting to play, eat and toilet, and with non of the negative effects seen on older dogs. It is a well known and accepted fact that neutering your pet is a good idea. Neutered dogs make better pets, they are less aggressive and because they are not driven to find a mate, they are more focused on you. They are also found to be much healthier with a lower risk of reproductive disorders and many cancers. Better-behaved pets. Neutered pets rarely scent mark, roam and fight. Majority of bites involve un-neutered dogs. Healthier pets. Females spayed before their first heat season are at much less risk of breast cancer, a common cause of death. They have no risk of uterine infection, or phantom pregnancy, or the many complications associated with seasons, pregnancy, whelping or raising a litter. Mortality rate is minimal and complications occur less. It completely eliminates the possibility of accidental litters or even intentional breeding by uneducated owners or worse case by puppy farmers. It allows the best puppies to continue to further the breed with the focus on temperament and health. The bottom line is fewer unwanted pets, and fewer ill-bred dogs.

I began breeding , with my first litter, to be able to provide my sisters with a puppy. Later I had a 2nd litter to allow me to keep a puppy as an addition to my family. I raised those dogs for many years. I began looking for a dog for my daughter and at this time was not able to find the quality and what I was looking for in a puppy. I began breeding at this point, with a desire to provide healthy well socialized puppies. Questions about Poodle puppies for sale in Louisiana? We have answers. german shepherd puppies roanoke va - The very much loved Jack on his way from Tel Aviv to New York with his owner Terry Not too sure what he thinks of his mode of transport!! INessie also travelling By a slightly more traditional means! We have a passion for Labradoodles, Labradors and Standard Poodles and the more we do with them the more hooked we become! We have a small number of very special breeding dogs - our ultimate aim is to enhance the quality and standard of the British Labradoodle. Our bitches are never bred from more than once a year and depending on how they take to motherhood they have a maximum of up to four litters. Once finished being Mums they are spayed and sometimes although this is terribly difficult and if the perfect home comes along they are re-homed - usually to family or friends. Sadly we can only keep a limited number of dogs if we are to continue our breeding program. If you are interested in adopting one of our ex-breeding bitches in the future and can offer the perfect home, please contact us. Our aim is to breed healthy, happy and beautiful family pets, bred from health tested parents, with good conformation and above all excellent temperaments. About sixteen years ago I saw my first 'Doodle' and was overwhelmed by him - I had never heard of Labradoodles before, and like everyone else, wasn't entirely sure whether I was having my leg pulled or not!! However, I was assured that Labradoodles were for real and I was also told a little about their history and why they were originally bred. I was fascinated and then spent many hours, days, months and yes years, researching into this wonderful, and relatively new breed. I had grown up with labradors and poodles and felt sure that a mating between the two to produce a labradoodle would be an excellent cross. Both dogs carry wonderful traits, and are such perfect family pets - put the two together and I felt certain you would end up with something very special indeed. Of course I wanted one! My hopes right from the start, if all went well, were to ultimately aim to breed a small number of top quality labradoodles, with particular care taken on their type, conformation, health testing and particularly their temperaments. Our first Labradoodle and the start of Didlington Doodles! When we went to see the pups at 6 weeks, out of all the pups it was Stroodle who came bounding up to us on arrival - she had already been picked out for us by Fiona as one of the best bitches, so it was extraordinary how she knew we were to be her 'people'! At the same time I also set out to find a very special labrador bitch puppy with the view, again if all went well, for her to start our own line of Didlington Doodles when the time was right. I found Pindy, a beautiful black puppy from a top class field trials strain, and again there was no question which pup from the litter was coming to us! The other extraordinary thing is that both pups were born on the same day - so there was a link between them right form the start. Both pups arrived shortly after the New Year in and our house has never been quite the same since!! Now a number of years later I can honestly say that my initial instincts about labradoodles were absolutely right. They are the most fabulous, fun, bouncy, crazy, loving and loyal dogs I have ever come across. They also have a highly developed sense of humour and are very intelligent. They are always up to some wicked trick - you can almost see their thought patterns as they try to think of something to make you laugh! A labradoodle is not for the faint hearted, they love lots of attention, walks and fun. They also love everybody and every thing - even our cats nearly get flattened with licks and kisses when they come home - although of course the cats do have the upper hand in the animal hierarchy! I don't think there is an ounce of malice in Stroodle, as I said she loves everybody and all other dogs too - but they can be over exuberant so do need to be properly trained. Being such sociable dogs they would not be happy left for hours on their own. I would therefore not advise anyone who was out at work all day to have a labradoodle and indeed we would not let one of our pups got an 'out at work all-day family'! We aim to breed about four litters a year, and are receiving emails and phone calls daily, either through word of mouth or via internet search engines. Initially we started in Dorset and in in we moved to our new home in Shropshire We have more space for our Doodles and we all live in the most idyllic and beautiful setting. In we became fully Council Licensed. After thorough checks to ensure the pups are going to the right homes, we are happy to export our puppies abroad, both internationally and to Europe. We work closely with Petair UK www. We now have Didlington Doodles in wonderful new homes in Jersey, Holland, Switzerland, Malta, Hong Kong, The USA and The Cayman Islands We are also now offering a delivery service within the UK for our pups, but do insist that new owners come to visit us initially in order to meet Mums, Dads and the pups and to see where they are born and brought up. As far as is possible we do like to meet all our prospective new owners. Most of our pups leave us at 8 weeks, but it is possible for us to keep them for a little longer if required to help with holiday dates etc. We obviously make a small charge for this and also for delivery. Pindy who started our own line of Labradoodles - our original F1's. She had the most beautiful pups and was a fantastic family member always up for a good walk and even a bit of skateboarding - but only as long as Phezzie could come too! She is a small working Labrador and just the sweetest, most gentle dog. Mum to Binka and many other very special pups! I've liked the page. I remember Chewy from the website. He's gorgeous. Hopefully there will be something around next July but to be honest if it was earlier I certainly wouldn't complain. Do you take your dogs to a groomer or do you do it yourself? I was hoping to learn how to do it myself if possible. It might prove less hassle though getting someone else to do it. Also do you do the ear plucking or do you trim the ears? I'll stop asking questions after this ha ha. Although I live in Scotland both my dogs came from a breeder in South Wales Courtlands We got the first one there because both Tora and Lomond Hills in Scotland couldn't supply a puppy in the time scale we were hoping for. Went back to Wales for the second because we were so pleased with the looks and temperament of our first. I have since spoken to other owners who have purchased from both Tora and Lomond Hills and all spoke positively about their dogs and experience of both breeders. Regards grooming your dog yourself that is exactly how I felt and went to a local groomer who does training courses for people wanting to be full time groomers. I explained I only wanted to do my own dog and not start up a business and they took me on for a one day course, taught me the basics and I've done both of my ever since. I'm not as quick as a professional groomer but I can groom the dogs at a time that suits me, no leaving the dogs at a groomers. Can do it as often or as little as I want , cut as short or leave as long as suits. Would recommend it for anyone who is interested. The groomer I went to is in Lanarkshire, don't know if that is anywhere near you but you could always ask someone more local to you if they would do something similar. BRUCE, Deciding to get a labradoodle… We knew for about two years that we wanted to get another puppy to be friends with our older dog a lovely blue merle collie called Gizzi. We put a lot of time and research into exactly what would be the best match for us and for Gizzi, and we have a long list of potential breeds we were working our way through. We knew that we needed a really happy, almost bomb proof dog because our collie is a little highly strung. But we also wanted a clever dog who we could train, and one who enjoyed a lot of exercise so the pup could keep up with our existing routine. Too much to ask? One day my husband came home and said he had met a lady whilst walking Gizzi who had the most beautiful dogs, and they were Labradoodles. And had I considered a labradoodle? Immediately the research began. All my research online suggested that this was the perfect breed for us — clever, energetic but a bit ditzy. We knew we wanted a boy, and ideally a chocolatey one I had intentions of naming him Cadbury. When the litter arrived I was so excited! They looked like tiny little guinea pigs. Johanne kept us up to date daily on their progress, with loads of pictures, and every day a different pooch was my favourite. Immediately I fell in love with a little black girl, the absolute opposite of what I thought I wanted. There were two brown boys to choose from if we still wanted that, but by now we had no intention of picking a pooch based purely on physical characteristics. We wanted a naughty little rascal! So, we based it on who seemed to want us. As it turned out, this was to be one of the chunky brown boys. He was a tiny little man, and he was lovely. So we picked our boy. By this time, my husband had decided he would be called Bruce, after Bruce Springsteen. And he did look like a Bruce. The first few nights and settling in We had a puppy book from Johanne which we studied in advance of picking Bruce up, which gave us lots of tips for bringing your puppy home. However, on night one, the book came out. Bruce was upset, you see. And the book said on the first few nights he would be ok in a tall-sided box in our bedroom, so we snuck him up in the middle of the night in a box filled with towels, and he finally settled as I lay halfway down the bed, with both arms in the box. Nothing else would settle him! Crate all the way, little man! I gave up, sort of, and slept alongside the crate on the floor of our dining room that night as he still seemed unsettled. So on day three, we spent the day crate training. We essentially put him into the crate over and over again, with toys and treats, over and over again, for hours. I timed his squeaking, and we got him down from 27 minutes to about 15 seconds. That night he went to bed downstairs and settled right down. Since then, he has been a star — so long as he still gets his bedtime treats! How could you not be? This tiny bundle of fluff, she warmed to him straight away. Immediately and I am not exaggerating he had a huge beneficial influence over her temperament. Having him around, being daft and happy, has really calmed her down and she seems much more settled now. A big, flumpy, happy teddy bear. I adore Bruce. From his first little walk outside to his full off-lead walks today and his dog training, Bruce has been a star. Until he steals your shoes. Yes, Bruce really loves shoes. Your most expensive, preferably. We took Bruce to training as soon as he could after his vaccinations. He is a perfect little gentleman and was moved up to the Bronze level Kennel Club Good Citizen training after just 4 weeks of puppy school. He has also learned to high-five, which is my favourite thing. He has made friends with lots of other dogs, big and small, and has wonderful confidence. I think this is why he has had such a calming influence on our older dog. He makes friends with everyone he meets, which seems to make her worry less about meeting new people. He is a great little ambassador. From when he was still with Johanne to now, he loves his food. Johanne said he liked to shove his littermates out of the way to get extras. And at just under 6 months, he is already the same size as our collie. He needs regular brushing, and we tend to blow dry him a couple of times a week on account of him getting soaking wet every morning on our 6am walks. It was evident when the pups were still living with Johanne that Johanne was incredibly attentive to their needs, and this has really paid off in well-adjusted and incredibly happy little pooches. I brought my parents to meet Bruce when he was with Johanne, and they still claim that all his wonderful nature and ability to pick up training is a direct result of his excellent early start in life. I like to think I have also had a hand in it! Now I just need to figure out what further training we are going to do. Or as a huge floofy hot water bottle to sit on my knee each evening — he has already been practicing for that. His amazing big soft paws His really happy, bouncy, happy nature did I mention happy? His big wiggly butt That he already appears to know all the training how? Your advice and guidance throughout the whole process of choosing our four legged companion has been fantastic, we bombarded you with questions and queries as we searched out our ideal breeder and puppy, and you have always been quick and comprehensive with your replies and guidance, as a result of this we feel that we were as well prepared as we could be for when Jasper came home with us. What has also been so reassuring for us is that this help has not stopped once we picked Jasper up; it has made the whole experience of owning a new puppy a lot easier than it could otherwise have been. When we picked Jasper up at just over 8 weeks old, he was already used to sleeping in a crate, and we never had a single accident over night with him, yes we had the whimpers at bed time, but having gone cold turkey on him, by the second night he settled quickly and soon was challenging who could snore loudest in the house! Toilet training was a breeze, as Jasper had already been used to going outside, and the only accidents we had was when we took our eye of the ball! Jasper has been quick to learn, and again on your advice we had him off lead as soon as he was allowed out, and this has paid off massively, with us being able to recall him up to now really well — we will see how this continues as he goes through his teenage phase! Once again on your advice we have had Jasper enrolled in a local puppy training class, which he continues to excel at, and he is now working towards his bronze award, and in doing so is often showing up the older dogs. Not to sound too much like a school report, but Jasper is showing great potential to become exactly what we were looking for from our dog, what with his laid back attitude, his quirky loveable ways, as well as his ability to learn new things. For any other potential puppy families that are considering you, we can only say, if you want a breeder who obviously genuinely loves her dogs, and wants the best for her pups, be this by giving the new families comprehensive guidance on the likes of feeding, training, veterinary care, grooming, exercise, puppy socialisation — the list goes on; then look no further — Johanne is the breeder whom we would most certainly recommend. One very happy puppy family.
