Our mission is to improve the breed standard, produce stable, clear headed puppies and prepare them for bonding with their new humans. Come and see the difference. Whatever task you may have - a canine from West German Shepherds. Welcome to West German Shepherds. Our mission: to improve the breed standard, to produce stable, clear headed puppies and prepare them for bonding with their new humans. Committed to producing exceptional canines with 14 years of hard-earned expertise and insight; here, you will glean insider information on selecting a German Shepherd pup and why West German Shepherds. She passed away in my arms on Monday September 16th at AM. Brownie was our reigning queen, an alpha female who earned her stripes the hard way; as a result she never flaunted her position but rather ruled with a strong bark and gentle paw. Great with families, working bloodlines, very protective. When the AKC American Kennel Club or CKC either of the 2 following entities Canadian Kennel Club or the Continental Kennel Club registers a new puppy, it does so sight unseen - without ever having evaluated the appearance, health or quality of the parents of the litter. In fact only a minuscule fraction of the tens of thousands of breeding dogs all across America have ever been evaluated. While registration is a great place to start, there is more to consider than whether the dog is registered. Sadly, the marketplace is chock full of puppies with bad genetics and these are from officially registered canine parents. A puppy born with a slight genetic abnormality might come from purebred parents, and can still be registered. An inexperienced or unscrupulous breeder may not recognize the uneven hips on a puppy and sell it to someone who will later breed the puppy. The final outcome will be a new line of registered dogs that are genetically inferior. None of these statements are made to be derogatory of the AKC or CKC, these registration organizations do many wonderful things to improve the health, welfare, training and advocacy of ALL canines. Yes, AKC registration is an important factor that should not be overlooked, but there is much more to contemplate. The pedigree of both parents should be considered as part of your quest for a puppy, the pedigree will list all of the ancestors historically for 3 or 4 generations back up the family tree. All of the canines listed in the pedigree impact the genetics and thereby the health of the offspring. The pedigree itself does nothing to convey the health of a puppy, but it tells the dogs lineage, their titles and country of origin. By searching, you can find a breeder offering puppies from parents with exceptional pedigrees, that have correct body structure, a superior visual appearance, plus the temperament to match your expectations. What is an exceptional pedigree? The more champions in a pedigree, the better. Here is a quick run down of German Shepherd championship titles. The German Sieger beats hundreds of other Champions to be selected this coveted title. The only higher title accomplishment attainable is the World Sieger. It is the same as the Sieger - but is for the female winner of the German National Championship Conformation show. Not many people are familiar with the word Sieger but even less are familiar with the word Siegerin outside of German Shepherd professionals. The Sieger show is held annually in Germany. VA-2 is the Vice- Sieger, etc. The best genetics possible are found in Sieger show winning adult German Shepherds. The puppies born from these bloodlines will be the absolute best in quality and appearance when compared to the average German Shepherd you see on the street. An analogy would be like comparing a shiny Ferrari against a rusted out Ford Pinto. The top bloodlines are found in the VA titled dogs and filtered down into their offspring, but be prepared to pay a significantly premium price for that level of parenthood and prestige. You will hear of dogs described as being from show lines, herding lines or working lines. Show lines refers to canines that are used to compete in conformation shows, herding lines means canines used to herd sheep, working lines denotes canines used to work in protection, Schutzhund or other disciplines. Primarily there are 3 main types of German Shepherd Dogs. Czech Shepherds are longer and leaner in body frame, more narrow across the chest and have taller rear hindquarters. Typical coat colors are black and tan, black and creme, black and silver, brown sable, silver sable and brindled. The coat patterns of a Czech Shepherd run from blanket-back to saddleback and brindled but most are blanket backed. We do not produce Czech Shepherd pups. Yes, Dutch Shepherds still fall under the umbrella of German Shepherds. Dutch Shepherds originated in the Netherlands and are very similar to Czech Shepherds in body form however they are typically more solid, weighty and sturdy than Czech Shepherds. Dutch Shepherds are not very commonly found outside of police or military use. They also present as a harder dog meaning they require an experienced trainer, handler or owner. Obviously there are exceptions to these generalized statements. Dutch Shepherds are brindled in coat color, brindled simply means a mottled and multi-colored un-patterned coat appearance. We do not produce Dutch Shepherd pups. West German Shepherds come from the democratic capitalist state of West Germany. West German Shepherds have shorter more compact torsos, thicker across the chest and have the squatted or lowered hindquarters. It is not that the dogs are stacked or posed for pictures, their rear bone structure is genetically encoded to be positioned more angular than that of a Czech Shepherd. The coat colors of a West German Shepherd are black and red set in a saddleback pattern. While interesting, we do not own or breed for these types, nor am I going to invest any time delving into them further. Over the past 25 years I have owned and bred different types of German Shepherd dogs. I keep track of the litters being sold in our geographic region. The West German type German Shepherd dog is the most sought after type. This is the number one variety of German Shepherd dog that previous GSD owners, consumers, enthusiast and new first time owners are actively seeking. You might assume that the cheap dogs are not as healthy or desirable, and the more expensive ones are a better, safer choice. Breeders know this. Many breeders will put a higher price on their low quality dog to look professional and make their dogs appear more valuable. Some breeders import very expensive dogs so they can breed them to sell puppies at a higher price bracket. An experienced breeder can evaluate a dog by comparing the conformation or show quality, health, physical performance and the ability to work; but can only do so after having studied the breed and being immersed in these canines for many years. One factor that has impacted price structure is the difference between Czech Shepherds and West Germans Shepherds based on an over-inflated value. Many first time German Shepherd buyers are ignorant of this fact. The new buyer will look at a few breeder websites, see the price tag, then sticker shock sets in; so they search again based on a lower initial purchase price and soon find a breeder that sells at lower price tiers. It never was a bargain. Czechoslovakian Shepherds sell for less money for a number of reasons. The market is diluted with them, it seems they are on every street corner. If you want the best German Shepherd for your money you will need to hit the perfect trifecta: choose breeder, bloodline and puppy very wisely. Breed level dogs or dogs used for breeding purposes should be exceptionally beautiful, it should be like a day versus night comparison. Its time for a really bad analogy, but it should be like comparing the cute girl you saw at BurgerDoodle against the hot supermodel on TV. Or for the lady readers, it would be like comparing an overweight plumber to a ripped fitness instructor. There should be an impressive difference between the quality of a German Shepherd breed dog when compared to the German Shepherd you just saw on the street corner. Both parents should have correct body type, not be excessively underweight or overweight, they should have dark eye colors, the coat should be exceedingly beautiful with vivid color pigmentation. The body should be proportional to the animals overall size, the body should not be too short nor should it be too long. The dog should not be a giant massive pound beast, nor should it be a petite 55 pounds worth of dog. The withers should be the high point and the back line or top line should gracefully slope to the hind quarters from there. The torso should appear rugged with powerful legs, the angulation should be correct and the stance when viewed from the side should look as if the German Shepherd were ready or capable of striking in a nanosecond. The West German Shepherd is a herding type breed and should weigh between 70 to 90 lbs and be 22 to 26 inches tall. That is 22 to 24 inches for a female and 24 to 26 inches for a male Toss a ball and observe the adults as they run, their movement should be easy, graceful as if to announce - yep, I can do this all day long! Look to see if the movement is fluid or constrained. Check the eyes, ear and teeth. Eyes should have dark pupil colors, teeth properly aligned, ears should be set close and stand erect, they should be reasonably clean and not coated with goo inside. Do the adult dogs track you as you move around? Are they agitated or nervous at your presence there? Pet them, handle them and look for their response. Nearly every German Shepherd breeder in America will tell you that they have champion bloodlines. Immerse yourself by studying, looking at pictures, making comparisons, asking questions via phone, text or email and then going to visit several of the top contenders. Go visit, meet them in person, ask questions, make notes etc. Choosing a breeder does not sound like a complicated task, however you should visit with several individuals and keep a skeptical eye open. Just because this breeder has nice looking German Shepherds - does not make them an ethical or honest person. Nearly everyone has heard the term puppy-mill. This refers to a large breeding operation that mass produces puppies to sell in a variety of retail outlets. Some of the puppies go to pet stores and boutiques, others are sold on-line and shipped in crates via carrier or air-freight, still others are to be sold at events like dog shows, local flea markets, farmers markets, outdoor festivals or from the back of a pick-up truck. Please beware of purchasing from the aforementioned venues, a large portion of these animals also come with very serious life threatening diseases. The puppy mills are known for over-crowding, unsanitary conditions and harsh treatment of animals since they often operate in secrecy in a warehouse or very remote type location. Another type of breeder is the novice, money driven or back yard breeder. These types are largely copy cats. They read websites of professional breeders and the on-line ads, familiarize themselves with the terminology, soon enough they begin executing their forgery. They position themselves as professional breeders but on a smaller scale, offering puppies that are hand raised etc. If you were to look around their property - they place looks like a normal home, there is no footprint or significant investment to indicate that they have created a top-notch, professional environment for their canines. See the selecting a breeder section for more information on how to identify unsavory breeder types and more specifically what to look out for. The canine breeder should be a walking encyclopedia about the overall health, housing, care, nutrition, exercise and training necessary for the type of canines they are breeding. They should have built up a considerable amount of knowledge, expertise and experience around their breed, they should also be proficient at mating and whelping too. Their kennels and property should reflect careful consideration about every decision that impacts the housing, health and environment for their canines. I highly recommend you visit with a few breeders, there is no substitute for this step. This is an opportunity for you to evaluate the breeder, to observe the adult canine animals and also the time to examine the relationship between the breeder and their animals. If the breeder is a professional - then there should be compelling evidence that they have made a significant investment in providing great facilities for the animals. What is the condition of the fencing, the shelter, the dog house, the whelping area etc? How does the breeder talk, do you feel extremely comfortable with their knowledge, character, speech and demeanor? This is the precise moment in time where you need to follow your gut. I have visited other breeders and seen unbelievable things, such as: When the puppies eat, play, then take a nap; mice scurried out from under the shed and begin scarfing crumbs of food dropped by the puppies. Another breeder had a koi pond with long strands of green slime pond scum, the puppies were using this as a water source; the issue was every time that it rained, the runoff rainwater drained back into the koi pond carrying with it the germs and bacteria from the waste products generated by the puppies. I have met a few great breeders and many really bad ones. In the final analysis - you are not just buying a puppy, but you are buying into the combined genetics of both parents, you are buying into the kennel, the breeder person, their level of knowledge and expertise, lastly whether or not that person is honest and ethical. Believe me - there are some real unsavory characters out there breeding dogs, selling puppies and offering stud service. For more info please read - Selecting a Breeder. The health of the animal is determined by genetics as passed down from both parents. Each pup has 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 great grandparents 16 great great grandparents all of these ancestor impact the offspring. Inquire of the breeder if there are any known genetic problems. Inquire about the frequency of those genetic problems occurring. If a breeder proudly says there have never had a problem with any of their animals then you should consider 1 of 2 possibilities. The very best kennels in the country have encountered genetic problems, but because of strict quality control protocols they move to a different pairing of adults to eliminate the genetic problem or they stop breeding that line altogether. A sincere breeder should offer a health guarantee to protect the customers investment. Always read the contract and ask questions long before making a deposit. A genuine breeder should want to stand behind their puppies, they should want to protect their reputation and provide detailed records. Furthermore a breeder should encourage open communication and build a relationship with their customers, how else will the breeder stay abreast of the health, wellness and genetic factors that are happening within their bloodline? An experienced breeder should have insight as to the traits of each puppy in the litter. The breeder should be able to help show you which puppy best suits your needs based on the criteria you have stated. What is the singular most important trait to you? Do you travel frequently and want a protective dog for your family? Are you seeking a dog for companionship? Is your situation that you have a big family, a lot of friends, neighbors and relatives who visit often and want a family dog? Were you planning on working the dog? Share this information with your breeder and ask them to help steer you towards a puppy that exhibits traits that are well suited for your primary intended purpose. Many clients want to actively choose a puppy, while others are more comfortable with a passive approach, spend time with the litter and allow the choice to be more organic and mutually made by the puppy that is attracted to them. There is nothing wrong with either method but I will offer this - If you want to ensure that you get the puppy with the traits that most closely match your needs, then for optimum results take an active role in making the selection. In each litter there will be certain trait variations the pups have inherited from their parents. Any German Shepherd puppy born in the litter can be trained to serve or work in any type of role that you desire, however some pups are more naturally suited to be self starters and do the task with minimal input from you. A German Shepherd is not naturally a mean or vicious dog, however they are alert, aware and protective. These traits have been locked into them from the start by the nature of the breed, these animals were coded to be discerning from the start. A Golden Retriever is a great congenial dog, it loves everyone it encounters right down to the burglar who is prying open the back window of your home with a crowbar. The Golden Retriever will hold the door open and wag its tail as the contents of the home are being ransacked and loaded into a truck. Now flip the script and try that with the German Shepherd dog. The German Shepherd dog has already been eyeballing everyone long before they set foot on the property. Even if the dog was inside and did not see someone coming - it is always listening for sounds that are non typical for its environment. Go ahead and pry the window open with the crowbar - lets see how that works out for you. Someone may actually get inside but I am pretty confident they will be encouraged to leave hastily by the canine with intense actions of fierce barking, deep growling, hackles up, ears on high alert and eyes laser focused on the intruder. The uninvited guest will drop everything - run out the door with empty arms, a chewed up backside, a renewed fear of God Almighty and total respect for the German Shepherd Dog… Again, the German Shepherd is not a mean dog, it is not a vicious dog, but it is a vigilant dog. It is a watch dog - it is a dog that closely looks after the people that it is bonded to and the place where they live together. All things considered - a German Shepherd is a very practical investment for peace of mind regardless whether you are young or old, single or have a large family. On pickup day I will spend a minimum of an hour and a half with each new owner going over paperwork and the best practices for feeding, health, training, tips on care, etc. With West German Shepherds. The original quote was intended for every breed of dog; as German Shepherd owners already know - these canines are far superior to any other breed on the planet! I often repeat - some days you are the dog, some days you are the fire hydrant. More quotes can be found at the bottom of each page. I have three pets at home which answer the same purpose as a husband. I have a dog which growls every morning, a parrot which swears all afternoon, and a cat that comes home late at night. Do you get the difference? The man will be there to feed the dog. The dog will be there to keep the man from touching the equipment. It is much more important that your puppy has a sound temperament and fits in well with your family and lifestyle than that he has a certain rare look. Since his original use as a shepherd dog however, he has filled many different roles — from guarding properties over being used in the show ring to participating in Schutzhund and IPO trails. Advertisement How to choose the best Shampoos for Dogs When buying dog shampoo, there are six essential factors to consider to ensure you choose the best product for your furry friend. Dogs can have varying skin conditions, such as sensitive, dry, oily, or itchy skin, and their coats can range from short to long, straight to curly. Our canine companions are unique, just like us, and they come with different skin and coat types that require specific care. When it comes to selecting the perfect shampoo for your beloved pup, keeping their individual needs in mind is essential. Look for shampoos that nourish their coat and promote natural shine without causing dryness or irritation. Dry Skin: If your pup experiences dry skin, a moisturizing shampoo is the way to go! Look for shampoos that contain ingredients like coconut oil or shea butter to help lock in moisture and prevent further dryness. Oily Skin: For those furballs with oily skin, a shampoo specially designed for their needs is ideal. Seek dog shampoos with gentle cleansing properties to remove excess oil without stripping their precious coat. Natural ingredients like tea tree oil or witch hazel can help balance sebum levels. Dandruff or Flaky Skin: If your doggo has dandruff or flaky skin, an exfoliating shampoo with moisturizing properties can work wonders. Look for shampoos for dogs containing ingredients like salicylic acid to gently exfoliate the skin and reduce flakiness. Long or Curly Coats: For our pals with long or curly coats, keeping those tangles at bay is essential. Look for shampoos with conditioning properties that leave their coat soft and manageable. Some hair cleansers even come with detangling agents, making grooming sessions a breeze! Double Coats: Our furry friends with double coats, such as German Shepherds or Huskies, require special care to manage shedding. Consider hair cleansers that help with shedding, like de-shedding formulas that remove loose hairs and reduce excessive shedding. Puppies: For our adorable little pups, extra gentle care is a must. Choose a shampoo specifically formulated for puppies, as these are mild, hypoallergenic, and perfect for their sensitive skin and coat. A hypoallergenic dog shampoo aims to be gentle on the skin and is made without common allergens or harsh ingredients that could trigger adverse reactions in sensitive dogs. They are free from harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances, and dyes that could potentially trigger allergic responses. Reduced Risk of Allergic Reactions: Dogs, just like humans, can have allergies to certain ingredients. Hypoallergenic shampoos aim to minimize the risk of triggering allergic reactions by excluding common allergens from their formulation. Suitable for Regular Use: Hypoallergenic formulations are safe for regular use and can be beneficial for dogs with all skin types, even those without specific sensitivities. Ingredients like oatmeal, aloe vera, coconut oil, chamomile, and tea tree oil can provide soothing properties, moisturize the skin, reduce inflammation, and promote a healthy and shiny coat. Avoid shampoos containing harmful additives, as they can cause adverse reactions and strip the coat of its natural oils. Here are some key natural ingredients to look for in a dog hair cleanser: Aloe Vera: Aloe vera is well-known for its soothing properties. It can help alleviate skin irritations, reduce itching, and promote overall skin health. Oatmeal: Oatmeal is an excellent ingredient for dogs with sensitive or dry skin. It has moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated skin and relieve itchiness. Chamomile: Chamomile is a gentle herb known for its calming effects. In dog shampoos, it can help soothe inflamed skin and relieve itching. Chamomile is particularly beneficial for dogs with sensitive or itchy skin. Coconut Oil: Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer that can nourish the skin and coat. Tea Tree Oil: Tea tree oil has antimicrobial properties that can help combat skin infections and soothe irritated skin. It helps promote healthy skin and a shiny coat. It helps moisturize the skin without leaving a greasy residue. Vitamin E: Vitamin E is an antioxidant that can benefit both the skin and the coat. It helps protect the skin from free radicals and promotes a healthy, shiny coat. Honey: Honey has antimicrobial properties that can aid in healing minor skin irritations and wounds. It can also help retain moisture in the skin and coat. Green Tea Extract: Green tea extract is rich in antioxidants, which can help protect the skin from damage caused by environmental factors. Dogs may feel stressed or uncomfortable during baths, and a gentle shampoo helps make the process more enjoyable for them. Dogs have a slightly acidic pH level in their skin, typically ranging from 5. When the pH balance is disrupted, it can lead to dryness, irritation, and an increased risk of skin infections. If the pH level is too high alkaline , it can strip away natural oils, leading to dry and irritated skin. On the other hand, if the pH level is too low acidic , it may cause itching and discomfort. An imbalanced pH in the shampoo can cause the skin to become more susceptible to allergens and irritants, leading to allergic reactions or skin sensitivities. A pH-balanced formula helps minimize this risk, making it a safer choice for your furry friend. A healthy pH balance is not only vital for the skin but also for the coat. When the skin is in good condition, it promotes the growth of a shiny and lustrous coat. Instead, opt for shampoos with natural, hypoallergenic, and eco-friendly ingredients. Here are some toxic ingredients commonly found in certain dog shampoos that you should avoid: Parabens: Parabens are preservatives used in some shampoos to prolong their shelf life. However, they have been linked to hormonal disruptions and have the potential to cause skin irritation and allergic reactions in dogs. Sulfates: Sulfates are foaming agents used in many cleaning products, including some dog shampoos. Phthalates: Phthalates are often used as fragrance carriers in shampoos. These chemicals are associated with endocrine disruption and have been linked to various health issues in both humans and animals. Artificial Fragrances and Dyes: Synthetic fragrances and dyes can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions in dogs, especially those with sensitive skin. They can react with other ingredients to form harmful compounds, potentially leading to skin irritation. Propylene Glycol: Propylene glycol is used to keep products moist and is sometimes found in shampoos. While it is considered safe in small quantities, excessive use can lead to skin irritation. Formaldehyde and Formaldehyde-releasing Preservatives: These are used to extend the shelf life of some products. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen and can also cause skin irritation. Mineral Oil: Mineral oil is a byproduct of petroleum refining and can create a barrier on the skin, preventing it from breathing and potentially causing skin problems. How to use Dog Shampoos When selecting a shampoo form for your dog, you must consider their breed, coat type, skin condition, and any specific grooming needs they may have. Give them a good, soothing massage, making sure to cover all those nooks and crannies! After that, rinse off the shampoo thoroughly to ensure no residue is left behind. Now your pup is all fresh and clean! Foam or Mousse Shampoo: Foam or mousse shampoos are pre-foamed products that do not require water during application. They are ideal for dogs who dislike water baths or for quick touch-ups between regular baths. They work well for small breeds, dogs with anxiety or mobility issues, or those in need of spot cleaning. All you need to do is apply the foam or mousse directly onto their fur. Using a waterless shampoo: When you need a quick solution without the hassle of a full bath, waterless shampoo is to the rescue! Give them a little pat and brush their fur to get rid of any excess dirt and grime. Medicated Shampoo: Medicated shampoos are specially formulated to address specific skin conditions, such as allergies, bacterial or fungal infections, and seborrhea. These shampoos may contain active ingredients like chlorhexidine, ketoconazole, or benzoyl peroxide. Using a medicated shampoo: When your pup has specific skin issues, a medicated shampoo can be a true lifesaver! If the vet gives the green light, follow their advice on how to use it best. After that, rinse it off thoroughly, and your pup will be on its way to feeling much better! This one is dedicated to all the beloved paw parents who often give up bathing their canine companions. With the right shampoo, bath time can be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both you and your furry companion! Happy bathing and bonding! Here are six advantages of using dog shampoo. Healthy Coat and Skin: A good dog shampoo is like a spa day for your furry friend! It helps maintain a healthy coat and skin by removing dirt, debris, and excess oils that can build up over time. Regular baths with a gentle shampoo keep their fur looking shiny and luscious, making them feel and look their absolute best! Many dog shampoos contain moisturizing ingredients that help hydrate and nourish the skin and fur. Hydration is essential to maintaining a soft, shiny, and well-hydrated coat. It prevents dryness and reduces the risk of itchiness or flakiness, making your pup more comfortable and less prone to scratching. Using a pH-balanced shampoo ensures that the natural acidic barrier of their skin is maintained, protecting against potential infections and irritations. A clean and well-hydrated coat is less likely to tangle, mat, or develop knots. Using dog shampoo regularly helps keep their coat healthy, manageable, and easy to groom. It also minimizes shedding by removing loose and dead hair, leaving your pup with a neat and tidy appearance. But fear not, dog shampoo to the rescue! A refreshing bath with the right shampoo can banish those unwanted odors and leave your pup smelling oh-so-fresh and clean! Some dog shampoos incorporate natural extracts, such as aloe vera, chamomile, lavender, or tea tree oil. These extracts not only have pleasant scents of their own but also possess properties that can help mask or eliminate odors. Many dog shampoos contain deodorizing agents specifically designed to neutralize odors. Citrus and herbal extracts, like lemon or eucalyptus, are often used in dog shampoos for their natural fragrance and antibacterial properties. These extracts can help combat odor-causing bacteria and leave a refreshing scent. Advanced dog shampoos may incorporate specialized odor-neutralizing technology. This technology uses specific chemical processes to eliminate odor molecules at a molecular level, ensuring long-lasting freshness. Dog shampoos with long-lasting fragrances help keep your pup smelling great between baths. These fragrances adhere to the fur, releasing a pleasant scent over time, even after the bath is over. Flea and Tick Protection: Fleas and ticks are unwelcome guests that can cause our furry friends a lot of discomfort. Thankfully, some dog shampoos come with special ingredients that help repel these pesky critters. Regular use of flea and tick shampoo can act as a line of defense against these unwanted hitchhikers, keeping your pup itch-free and happy! With proper care and preventive measures, you can help keep your furry friend safe and comfortable from the nuisance of fleas and ticks. A good dog shampoo with flea and tick protection may contain specific active ingredients designed to target these parasites. Some common active ingredients found in such shampoos include: Pyrethrin: Derived from chrysanthemum flowers, pyrethrin is a natural insecticide that is effective against fleas and ticks. Pyrethroids: These are synthetic versions of pyrethrins that are commonly used in flea and tick products for dogs. Permethrin: A synthetic chemical similar to pyrethroids, permethrin is commonly used to repel and kill fleas and ticks. Natural Essential Oils: Some organic or plant-based dog shampoos use essential oils like neem oil, citronella, eucalyptus, or cedarwood, which have natural flea and tick-repellent properties. Hydration and Moisture: Just like us, our pups can experience dry skin, especially in harsh weather conditions. The right dog shampoo can be formulated to provide much-needed hydration, leaving their skin nourished and their coat soft and touchable. Regular use of such a shampoo can contribute to improved fur texture, reduced shedding, and an overall more pleasant grooming experience for your furry companion. Organic and plant-based dog shampoos often contain natural oils like coconut oil, olive oil, or jojoba oil. These oils are rich in essential fatty acids that can penetrate the fur and skin, providing deep moisturization. Nourished and hydrated fur is less prone to dryness, brittleness, and split ends. Unlike some harsh chemical shampoos, they preserve the essential oils that keep the fur healthy and glossy. Organic and plant-based shampoos often contain antioxidants and vitamins, like vitamins E and C, which can nourish the fur and skin. These nutrients help combat free radicals, promoting a healthier and more radiant coat. Gentle on Sensitive Skin: Some pups have more sensitive skin than others, and using regular shampoo might cause irritation. But fear not! Many dog shampoos are specifically designed to be gentle on sensitive skin. They contain soothing ingredients that clean without causing any discomfort, making bath time a relaxing and pleasant experience for your furry buddy. Seek shampoos that prominently feature organic or plant-based ingredients. Natural extracts like aloe vera, chamomile, oatmeal, coconut oil, and lavender are often gentle on sensitive skin and can provide soothing properties. A balanced pH helps maintain the natural acidic barrier of the skin, reducing the risk of irritation. Choose a shampoo with little to no fragrance. Each bath is a chance to show them how much they mean to you, to create lasting memories, and to strengthen the unbreakable connection you share. As you massage the shampoo into their coat, you share a moment of pure connection. They might even give you a grateful lick or two, expressing their love and appreciation. And as you rinse off the shampoo, their coat feels soft and fresh, just like your heart is feeling right now. The best part? After bath time, when your pup shakes off the excess water and does a happy dance, you share a laugh together, cherishing these special moments. As you towel-dry them and they snuggle close, you both feel the love and warmth of your bond growing stronger. Do you represent a health, nutrition, beauty, or fitness brand? Share your product's unique value proposition with millions of readers. Check it out on Amazon. They are generally utilized for deep cleaning. These are the ones that foam thick leather to clean the dog properly. It removes dirt, dust, and other particles from the coat and will make your labrador puppy clean. Medicated Shampoo: If your labrador puppy has explicit skin conditions, there might be shampoos out there extraordinarily designed to help. If you are not sure what to buy on your own, then consult with the vet. Look for shampoos that can assist with parasitic or contagious diseases, skin sensitivities, skin irritations, or seborrhea. Dry Shampoo: There are various situations when you might not have a lot of time to bath them thoroughly or if you are traveling and there is no water availability. For these types of situations, dry shampoos are a boon in disguise. These can be used without water, and you can give a quick bath to your puppy. They will also reduce the prevalence of tangles, knots, and mats. To not harm their coat, their shampoo should likewise have a neutral pH. Search for shampoos that have a pH level of almost 7, which is neutral. This is them attempting to rub off the unwanted smell. Also, heavy fragrances are not ideal for puppies as their skin is more sensitive than adult dogs. And fragrances can irritate puppies. Thus, good dog shampoos should attempt to neutralize scents as opposed to simply masking smells and odors. Ingredients Similarly, as it is valid for humans, harsh synthetic and chemicals through the skin can hurt the puppies. Harsh chemicals ought to be avoided by buying shampoos with natural ingredients. Key ingredients to stay away from include phthalates, formaldehyde, isothiazolinones, and nitrosamines. Additives Similarly, as you can purchase shampoos and skin cleaning agents that guarantee to hydrate your skin and keep it looking new, dog shampoos will include skin-protecting additives such as oatmeal, Aloe Vera, or vitamin E that is intended to hydrate their skin and keep coats shiny. This can add many advantages for your dog, as long as the ingredients are natural and will not do any harm to your labrador puppy. With regular baths and keeping them clean, you can ensure that they do not spread any infections in the house. There are so many choices in the market. If you are not sure which one to purchase, then buy any shampoo from our given list. Do let us know your experiences of bathing your dog in the comments section below. Our kennel is located in New Braunfels, Texas. It is about 45 minutes from Austin and 30 minutes from San Antonio. New Braunfels, Texas is best known for river tubing and for its awesome water park, Schlitterbahn. Our family consists of our sons Andrew and Alex, my wife Dalia and myself. Both my son and I are really into boxers. I got my first pair of boxers about ten years ago. It was a boy named Scooby and a girl named Chata. They both had awesome personalities and were really fun to be around. Unfortunely I had to let them go in when my son was born. Our first boxer was a boy named Max. We got him when he was about 7 weeks old. He and my son were inseparable. They would chase each other around the house, take each others toys and even took naps together. In , we got our girl named Sugar Diva. She is more laid back, but is always on alert. She sometimes thinks she is one of the big dogs. She likes to run along side our boxers and even out running them at times. She acts like my sons little sister chasing him around the house, pulling on his pants and sleeping next to him at night. Max and Sugar Diva had their first litter in December .From there we kept our second girl named Memee. My son got her name from watching Clifford the Big Red Dog. In the show Clifford has a friend named Memee. In , we got our third girl named Xena. She is very calm, but very smart. She knows how to sit, beg and speak. A couple months later we got our stallion named T-Bone. My son is also responsible for his name. He is everything we wanted in a male boxer. He is tall, obedient, lovable and playful. In , our little boston terrier Princess had her first and only litter. She had 5 puppies that all went to family members well except for one. We kept the biggest boy named Rusty. He is my wife's bubblegum following her everywhere she goes. In fall , we had our last 2 litters of American boxers. While our love for the American boxer is very deep, we are now focused on raising European boxers. European boxers are a little shorter but they have bigger chest, bigger heads and more muscle definition. They have the same great personalities as American boxers do: playful, lovable and intelligent. They are breed to be both show and working dogs. Sandman Boxers have been a big help to us because he has shown us what to look for in a European boxer. He has been been raising both American and European boxers for some time now and has a great deal of experience with breeders from overseas. In we got our newest import, Talia. She is high energy and very playful. We are looking forward to raising not only great family companions but also healthy, intelligent and show potential boxers. We hope that you find our website both entertaining and informative. Once again thank you for visiting our website and hopefully choosing one of our boxers to be your next family companion. They are generally very friendly with children, strangers, and other animals unless they have been trained to be aggressive American Kennel Club. They require moderate exercise but do best in homes where someone is around during the day because they do not like being left alone especially if they have never been apart from them before. Overall these characteristics make the Boxer a great family pet. These clearances can be found by looking up the parent dogs on the OFA website offa. They should also show you where and how they were raised and keep them until they are at least eight weeks old to ensure that they have been properly socialized, which is crucial for a Boxer puppy. Ask about any hip or eye problems in their lines. Where and how many generations of champion bloodlines do they go back? This is usually more important for those who want to breed their new puppy as it shows they have a lot of knowledge about the breed and can provide you with knowledgeable information. Are there any known health problems in their lines? Most responsible breeders will be able to tell you that they care for all of their dogs and even give them regular check-ups and if not, this is a red flag. Visit Your Georgia Boxer Breeder in Person In order to find a responsible breeder, it is important to do some research. A decent Boxer breeder should be more than willing to tell you about themselves and their dogs. When you visit your Georgia boxer breeder in person, look for cleanliness and organization of the house or kennel. The area should not have any bad odors, and the puppies should appear healthy with shiny coats and bright eyes. They may be very active, which is normal but if they seem lethargic this could be an indication of illness or improper nutrition. It is also recommended that you ask for references from previous customers as well as veterinarians who have seen these dogs before. This will help ensure that you make a good investment when looking for a Boxer puppy. Questions to Ask Ask for References from Your Boxer Breeder in Georgia Once you have found a breeder that meets the previous criteria, it is time to ask for references. A responsible Boxer Breeder will be able to provide any information about their dogs that you request. Ask them if you can speak with past customers of theirs so that you can find out how they were trained and cared for as well as the personality of these dogs. This way, you are making sure that this potential dog is right for your family before you make any final decisions. References can also be found online. If you find nothing, this may be a red flag since anyone can put anything on the internet. Make sure to contact them directly instead of through their website or Facebook page to avoid scams or other dishonest sellers who use these outlets for marketing purposes only. This allows you to get a more honest opinion about the breeder and their dogs without worrying about repercussions later on. We all know that there is little recourse for unsatisfied customers but rest assured knowing that these people will not hesitate to give you an honest answer if given permission to speak freely. Meeting past customers will also give you a better idea of what type of dog they have put into your family. Meeting the previous owners allows you to look for certain traits in a potential puppy, such as energy levels or age appropriateness. Another good way to find out about your breeder is to ask them if they have a veterinarian that they use for their dogs. A responsible boxer breeder should be able to provide you with this information without hesitation since taking care of their animals is important to them. If the Boxer Breeder does not have any sort of medical history available about their lines, this might be a red flag. If they are unwilling or unable to answer these questions, this could also mean that they are hiding something from you or do not know the answers themselves. These individuals may be backyard breeders or puppy mill owners who are looking to make a quick buck and care little about the health of their animals or their customers. A few signs that your Georgia Boxer Breeder is unethical include: They Do Not Have References: If you ask your breeder if they can provide any references from past buyers and they refuse, this could mean several things; Either they do not know how to get in touch with them unlikely or there is something wrong with these dogs that no one wants to talk about. Inquiring further will help you identify which it is but under either circumstance, it is best not to work with this kind of breeder. They Have Inflated Prices: Another way to spot an unethical boxer breeder is by the prices that they have listed on their dogs. If these Boxer dogs seem much more expensive than other breeders you have looked at, this might be a sign that something is wrong with them. This could involve health issues or genetics, but it is likely just a scheme to get more money from you without putting in the proper amount of time and care into these animals. Very Little Information about Their Breeding Program: Ethical and good Dog Breeders will do everything that they can to supply you with as many details about their breeding program as possible. They want you to feel safe and comfortable knowing what types of treatments the dog will receive and what they will be born into. There is no excuse not to provide you with this information; if your Boxer Breeder does not, then move on to another one. If you want a full-bred Boxer dog, make sure that you tell them before you purchase the animal. Many responsible breeders ask their customers for preferences when it comes to the age or sex of their dogs so that they can match up your needs with the right puppy. Responsible breeders will not only be able to answer this question, but they should also be able to provide you with information on what type of issues other puppy owners have experienced. If the breeder claims that all of their Boxer Dogs are healthy, then you should push for further explanation. If none of the puppies or adults have any medical concerns then that should be something that makes you feel safe. However, if there were previous owners who dealt with anything severe in the past, this information should still be available somewhere. This can include genetic conditions or simply problems with allergies or skin rashes. How to Prepare Your Home for Your Boxer Puppy When you look at a breed as hearty as the Boxer, it can be easy to underestimate how much work and time this dog will need to be happy and healthy. However, if treated properly and cared for well by their owners, these dogs can make excellent pets; which is why it is so important that you take the following steps before bringing your pup home: The biggest thing that you want to do before you bring your Boxer home is to make sure that the living conditions are appropriate for this breed. You will want to have a large, fenced-in yard where your dog can move around freely and play. If you live in an apartment or condo, then it may be time to start looking into other options; Boxers need room to run which cannot be provided adequately in these types of environments. Another important thing that needs to be prepared is the area where your puppy will sleep at night. Not only should it be isolated from any drafts or cold air, but it should also provide warmth during the winter months. Be sure to look into buying bedding or blankets specifically designed for dogs if necessary. Your Boxer will also require training as soon as possible. This breed is known for having extremely high intelligence, but it does not come naturally to them; you will need to work hard to train your Boxer Puppy and give them boundaries that they can grow up comfortably within. You should start this process as early as possible so that it becomes second nature by the time your pup turns into an adult and needs more rules and regulations than just potty training. Potty Training Your New Boxer Puppy The most important thing that you need to teach your new Boxer is how to use the potty appropriately. You do not want to deal with any accidents in the house, and making sure they are trained properly will ensure that this does not happen. The best way to accomplish this is through crate training; it may be a very foreign concept for many owners, but it is also one of the most effective methods when it comes to house-breaking puppies. It is recommended that you put your Boxer Puppy into a crate at night while you sleep and then carefully take them out first thing in the morning so that they can use the bathroom right away. Do not allow them too much time without being taken just before bed because they might make a mistake in your absence. Another important step that you should take is to keep your puppy on a strict schedule; this means taking them out for walks regularly and making time every few hours to play with them, feed them, and then let them use the bathroom once more. This will ensure that they do not have accidents inside of the house because their body will be used to getting into the habit of relieving themselves outside. You need to make sure that there are no areas where they can get injured or choke on something by accident. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. Our goal is to find the most suitable dog for your home, family and lifestyle; the more we know about your preferences, the better we are able to make the perfect match. The Golden Retriever is a wonderful dog; however, they are predisposed to several conditions: ear infections, hot spots, food and environmental allergies, excessive shedding, and generally a need for lots of exercise in order to be good house pets. They are not outside dogs to be tied or enclosed away from their families and can become quite loud, destructive, and even self-mutilating if made to live in these conditions. These dogs are excellent obedience candidates and can be easily trained to be wonderful companions — if you will work with them. Additional expenses may include grooming, collars, leashes, bowls, and toys. We do recommend that you research pet health insurance options and purchase, at the very least, a policy for catastrophic injury and illness. This helps to defray the cost of overseas transport. Adoption fees are subject to change without prior notice. Our dogs have been examined by one of our network veterinarians and all their individual medical needs are addressed. Additionally, each dog has had vaccinations, a heartworm and fecal test, spay or neuter, if needed, and microchip registration. Thank you for your application. This dog has been the best companion, we live near Peoria Illinois now and my lab is probably the most popular dog of our family. Everyone loves her! This is a very professionally operated AKC lab breeder. Very transparent and straightforward. Got my dog tina 6 months ago and has great health and temperament. I decided to post my gratitude. We bought Marvin over a year ago and have enjoyed this healthy lovable guy. He is a white lab and brings joy to my family. Thank you seven oaks for all you do! Chris did a phenomenal job training her. The grounds are clean, they are AKC registered, and the dogs are well taken care of. I highly recommend. We have 3 puppies - 3 generations- from Seven Oaks and will come back for a 4th! Maggie was a beautiful dark chocolate , quiet lab who enjoyed brushings, playing in water, car rides, going on walks, and looking out windows at baby ducks. She was perfect for my apartment. She is missed dearly. Madi is my beautiful yellow lab who is very happy and energetic. She is a big girl who loves car rides, playing with her toys, and eating. She enjoys sitting on the patio and watching people. Both labs fit into the family. Chris and Linda are very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. They take care of their animals. The environment is always clean. I highly recommend them and plan to return in the future when the need arises. Our family has added two pups from Seven Oaks: one male yellow lab and one female black lab. The male, we lovingly call Moose is sweet and playful and loves a good rubbing! He is a true lab who will play fetch until he wears himself out and then finds the nearest water to cool off in. Our female, Molly is a mischievous girl who gets her snout into everything but is always a friendly greeter and full of joy. They have both become my best companions and our kids love them to pieces. They both get along great with all of our other farm animals and all the humans they come in contact with. Quality animals with wonderful personalities and dispositions! Highly recommend Seven Oaks! Looking forward to a chocolate one!!! Our pup also just completed a 2 week obedience training with them. Our lab is beautiful and healthy, and we are very pleased with the obedience training as well. We have had our Mabel for almost a year, and she is healthy with a delightful temperament. If we decide to add another lab to our family, we will certainly go back to Seven Oaks Kennel. Their ranch is beautiful, and you can tell they take very good care of their animals. We purchased a chocolate lab puppy last October and have been so happy and in love with our boy. Everything about the experience from beginning to end was fantastic. Great communication, very helpful in terms of preparing us on our new addition, and available after the fact to answer any questions we had in those first few days. We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. The Lab was a working dog used during hunting pursuits and the hunting fraternity heavily favored the Black Labrador over all other colors. And so red labs were relatively uncommon. But in a reversal of the trend today, in the early days of the breed the more common shades of yellow that existed were dark yellow to fox red. The lighter shades of yellow and cream that we think of as normal today, were actually quite rare. In fact, the first ever registered yellow was a dark golden color. However, through the mid to late s, lighter shades of yellow and cream became more fashionable and breeders sought to selectively breed for these colors. This is mostly my opinion and not concrete fact, but the two theories I have on why the lighter colors of Yellow Labradors became more common are: Firstly, during the early years of the breed the darker yellows and reds were more common. So when a pale cream or very light yellow was born, it seemed more exotic, rarer and hence more desirable. So breeders started to selectively breed for these colors and hence less and less reds were born. Secondly, since the middle s, a famous brand of British toilet paper, Andrex has used a pale Yellow Labrador in their television adverts. Their adverts went on to be shown in over countries for over 35 years. Most colors centered on a cream to light golden color. The dark yellows and reds fell out of fashion. But in the last 10 or 15 years, the range of available shades in the Yellow Labrador have once again widened. They stood out among the crowd and so they were more desired. This caused breeders to try to match the demand and selectively breed for lighter colors. Due to a lack of popularity of the dark red coat colors, it all but disappeared. But this new-found rarity in turn made the darker red Labs more desirable. So now there are many breeders who are selectively breeding to try to obtain litters of reds to meet the demand of people who want the rarer color. Things have turned full circle. Controversy Around The Red And Darker Yellow Shades Being uncommon in comparison to the black, paler yellow and chocolate shades does make some people question the red Labradors pedigree. They question whether in fact they are a pure bred Labrador or not? However, unlike the so-called Silver Labrador Retriever that is surrounded by accusations of outcrossing Labradors with Weimaraners to introduce the diluted coat color to the breed, no such controversy surrounds the darker colors of Yellow and Red Labradors. They are a genuine, pure bred Labrador, with a history going back to the earliest days of the breed. Another controversy is the fact that Fox Red Labrador breeders charge a far higher price than breeders do for the more traditional colors of the breed. They advertise their dogs as being a rare breed and charge a premium. There is some truth in this, but this controversy also follows many other breeds and colors of dogs. Are Breeders of Reds Irresponsible? There is some evidence to support this in a very few small cases, but there are some highly responsible breeders too and I think the good do outnumber the bad. Many people have asked if different colored Labs have different temperaments. Is the Fox Red Lab temperament different from the other Lab colors? In our experience, no a Fox Red lab has the same loving, friendly temperament as black, yellow, and chocolate Labs. Further Reading: For those of you that have a real interest in the Fox Red Labrador and would like some further and much deeper reading, I would suggest you take a read of the following three articles over at penara. From what I have read on their site, they are highly ethical and very responsible. They are certainly very knowledgeable! For a good history of the shade, including pivotal moments and important dogs through history: History of the shade For general information on Fox Red Labradors, including genealogy, temperament, pricing etc, please read: About a fox red Labrador For a good discussion of their struggles and successes in the show ring and field, and also for some stunning photos, please see: Fox Red Labradors Today What Are Your Thoughts? Do you own a Fox Red Labrador and have a story to tell? What do you think of the controversy surrounding the higher prices these dogs command? Or the accusations thrown at some breeders concerning the health of the dogs in their breeding programs? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! Nose Butter is available in five sizes of tins and three tube sizes. Why so many? Dogs come in all sizes from Chinese Cresteds to Tibetan Mastiffs, so choose accordingly. The dog breed labels celebrate canine diversity and our dog geekness. Every Dog Nose or 3 Cute Puppies are general labels. It's not rocket science, but there are tips that make application faster and easier for you and your dog. The crusty stuff is actually skin and hurts your dog if you pick it off, just like us pulling a scab off a skinned knee too soon. If you stop using Nose Butter, the dryness and crust will probably come back. When our hands are really cracked and dry we can use lotion to get them in shape, but we can't slather lotion on our hands once and be moisturized for life. Like cutting your dog's toenails.Nose Butter is part of their health care regimen. That stung! It's not that your dog dislikes Nose Butter we hope not , they DO dislike being held tightly and restrained. Bully and flat-faced breeds already have compromised breathing systems due to their adorable flat faces. If held tightly they will struggle to protect their breathing. Toy breeds know they are small and will often put up an unbelievable tussle to get away. Dogs are often triggered by being held tightly or controlled. This may come from puppy play, when they wrestle and play-fight. It's not fun for dogs or us to have siblings pile on and make us feel helpless. I'm looking at my three sisters. Also, keep the mood upbeat and fun. Make a game of applying Nose Butter and follow it up with treats and most dogs can be won over. See our labrador bitches here. Barton is dedicated to keeping SOK a traditional, family-run kennel that focuses on gundogs who excel both in the field and at home. British Labradors How we select our British Labradors. When selecting our Labradors for our breeding program, we carefully examine every aspect of the dog. If a Labrador has an undesirable trait, their offspring likely will, too. There are several non-negotiable evaluations that take place before considering a dog for our program, such as sound hips and elbows, a clear eye test, size within the breed standard, a proven pedigree, etc. Once we have checked all of those boxes, we look at the overall personality of the dog. We want dogs who have great social skills, good drive and style in the field, and a true off-switch when not working. This off-switch extends beyond napping in the kennel. Once we know a Labrador meets these standards, we evaluate several aspects of field work. We want to breed Labrador retrievers who love the water, have a natural delivery to hand, charge hard going out and coming back for a retrieve, and are able to use their noses to work heavy cover. Labradors who are in our breeding program are team players who love to work together with their handler in the field. Essentially, we only want to breed the type of Labrador that enhances the hunting experience. I was looking for a hunting dog, and spent my time researching for a quality breeder. From the moment I met Glennda and Luke, I was impressed. Their care and attention to detail of their facility was more than I expected. I have had Bridger for almost 5 weeks, and she is an amazing dog. I have never trained a dog before, but she learns quickly and responds so well. Pete Pete When we lost our beloved chocolate lab of 12 years, we knew we must have another. They were so accommodating and answered all of our questions. They even drove to meet us at the local airport for the exchange. Let me tell you…they produce beautiful pups and our guy, Kilo, has such a wonderful temperament. We got to take Demi home right before Christmas last year and not only had she obviously been impeccably taken care of but her temperament and social skills were amazing. You can tell Glennda loves and cares for these puppies like her own! As two new puppy owners we had a lot of questions, and still do, and Glennda is always a quick message away with professional advice. Even our vet was impressed with the care our pup had received prior to us taking her home! Glennda and her husband, Luke Simpson, and their three small children provide the much needed human contact that puppies need in their first eight weeks with sound and touch stimulation. At seven weeks they are introduced to water and working with live birds. She even asked me if I would like updated texts throughout the evening. After a long day of puppy deliveries Glennda posted pictures on Facebook of a very tired mom and her eight nursing puppies. Every week multiple pictures of each puppy were posted on Facebook. Videos were also posted of the puppies in action that showed their ever changing energy level. She slept in my arms most of the six hour ride home, and adjusted easily. I thought she might cry and keep me awake the first night, but she slept straight through the night in her kennel without a sound. She was partially potty trained when I brought her home. Most of the time she knows to ring a bell when she has to go out, goes in her kennel on command and sits when requested. She is a smart 14 week old puppy. Also on pick up day I saw firsthand how organized Glennda is. Glennda treats all litters the same. She is an excellent breeder and I highly recommend her. We immediately put down our deposit and anxiously waited for the conformation that the first pick male would be ours! We could always count on Glennda to post exciting videos and images. Our 4-hour drive was full of anticipation! Glennda and her family were both friendly and professional. They answered all our questions and immediately showed Franklin to us. Glennda even checked up on us the following weeks to make sure Franklin was making a good transition. We were so glad that he was already crate trained and potty trained! Since then, almost 4-month-old Franklin has begun puppy training classes. He is learning new commands every week! Franklin loves taking walks and running in the backyard with soccer balls. He has even made friends with our year-old black lab Stanley and our outdoor cat Lloyd. Franklin has made a great addition to the family with his goofiness, cuddles and energy! We found many others who bred Labradors all over the country, of course, but Luke and Glennda felt different. Once it was time to go pick up our new puppy, Glennda and Luke made it very clear they would always make themselves available if we needed them. And they have! They are really invested in these animals even once they go home with their new families. The registration process to the pick up day was nothing short of amazing. Glennda and Luke kept us informed throughout the eight highly anticipated weeks leading up to us picking up Porter. We looked forward to every Facebook post and weekly photo shoot. Porter is extremely smart, well behaved, playful, and most of all loving. We owe everything to Glennda and Luke for instilling these behaviors in Porter at such an early age. Porter is first and more most a family dog. He interacts well with children of all ages and has never acted out of temper. His morning snuggles and electric energy brighten our days and motivate us in every aspect. Porter has been nothing but a blessing to us and we owe everything to Glennda and Luke! One day I decided to follow through and search online for chocolate lab puppies. Seriously, cutest dogs ever. The process was super easy to reserve a puppy and they are very lenient when it comes to the time frame to put your deposit in. I drove to them from Florida and they kept in contact the whole trip to answer any questions I had on the way. When I got my puppy I immediately fell in love with my new baby Kobe. They keep their house very clean and sanitary for the health of the puppies which meant a lot to me. They even have their basement reserved just for the puppies. I was even given a puppy package which came with a blanket my puppy still uses today. You can definitely tell the puppies are taken care of so well before they go to their homes because Kobe was so good the whole trip home he just slept and played with his toys. Kobe is a very quick learner and aside from all he is the best looking lab in my neighborhood, I always get asked where I got him from. Very efficient with replying quickly and helping out as much as possible. Valerie Florida Carol and I wanted to thank you and Luke for a great pup. Trey is about 4 months, weighs 40 pounds and really smart as can be. If any of our friends are looking for a Lab pup we would highly recommend your breeding program. Tell Holly and Raider they did good. She, from the start, has been the most affectionate and social of any dog we have owned or met. She is gentle and rambunctious, goofy and obedient. According to Mr. Abe is a very smart dog who loves life, my kids, other kids, other dogs, swimming and hunting to name a few. I have never had a problem with him destroying anything in our house, but will bring you anything wood related outside weather it is a stick, log, or a wood ladder. Hunting: Training Abe to retrieve birds consisted of 15 minutes a couple times a week. His drive to keep working in a pattern to find the bird was all him. For September dove season, I decided to take Abe 7months old hunting with a group to see how he would do. Duck season 9months old was much the same, once he got a smell of a duck, Abe was on it and retrieved 36 ducks. He again worked good with other dogs and again performed blind retrieves on ducks that sailed further than expected. Abe is typically by my side when hanging around the house, but definitely knows when I am loading up the truck to hunt, and then he will not leave the truck. Family Member: Every day I can count on Abe playing with my kids. I can also count on either seeing them laying on Abe or Abe laying on them. You can tell Simpsons love each pup that is born. I have zero prior bird training experience, but SLR gives them a huge jump start by getting them out swimming, helping to break them of being gun shy and retrieving live birds all before 8 weeks old. If you are looking for a family member and a potential hunting partner, Simpsons Labrador Retrievers is a must. Tim Lubenkov New Athens, IL I did a very thorough research when looking for my new puppy and, I have to say without a doubt, that I found the best breeder. Glennda takes an enormous amount of time to introduce her puppies to their potential new owners. She posts still pictures as well as videos on a weekly basis if not more often. The puppies are socialized with other dogs as well as children and adults. She introduces them to swimming, hunting, crate training and potty training. My puppy is now 5 months old. She loves to play fetch with her ball and frisbee, is a great swimmer and responds to commands. She is the smartest dog my family has ever owned. Our yellow lab, Reed was born June 29th, and we could not have asked for a better dog. It was evident from that visit that all the dogs are kept in a clean environment and are well cared for. Reed has a drive to retrieve and is showing all signs that he will be a great bird dog, we are very excited for this to be his first year to hunt. He has a great temperament which is not unusual for a Lab of course, but he is pretty laid back for a pup. Reed is a loveable, sweet boy who enjoys cuddling almost as much as he likes retrieving. In addition to his drive and great temperament, he is a beautiful dog. I have and will continue to recommend them to friends and family! I was referred to Glennda by a friend and certainly was not disappointed. My lab, as all their labs are, is beautiful and incredibly healthy. I received all medical and pedigree information on Lute. Lute came microchipped and up to date on all vaccinations when I adopted him. I would highly recommend purchasing your dog from Glennda. Cate McGinty St. Our first boy, Zachary Oliver was adopted on May 27, and his brother, Gary Jefferson, from the same parents, on December 16, .It was obvious that when we adopted our boys that they had been well cared for and loved before we got them. They were bred in a clean environment with room to run and play. It was also nice to get to meet their parents. Glennda, their first human mom still follows them on Facebook. Both Zack and Gary are healthy, vibrant family dogs. They love all people, love to swim, play ball, take long walks and snuggle. Our next lab will definitely come from Simpsons Retrievers. I thought you might enjoy seeing this picture of him. They are outstanding and have gotten Diesel to a great point. They all think he has tons of potential. Pete Illinois December 29,…our boy Jaxx was born. He was born in a litter of 11 pups. Complications warranted a cesarean procedure. An infection developed from the procedure. Glennda put them on bottle feeding and mothered them when they necessarily had to take them from the mother. He is now 4 months old and growing like a weed. He is a beautiful Chocolate Lab. He is healthy, friendly, playful and well behaved. He trains easily. The whole process was a good experience. We were communicated with on a regular basis. We visited Jaxx just for a meet and greet. The Simpson family made us most welcome when we visited. Their facilities are clean, they are very friendly and at the same time professional. They are very knowledgeable and always ready to help in any way possible. Things happen and problems arise. The degree of success we achieve in our lives is defined by how we respond to the challenges. From our perspective, Simpson Labrador Retrievers is a 5-star breeder. We have a high level of confidence in these folks and will recommend them to our friends and family if any of them are seeking a happy healthy puppy…. Great job Simpsons! I found Glennda on Craigslist and thought I would come out to see if any of the litter was what we were looking for. While looking at the pups, we decided that one of them were the cutest puppies we had ever seen. From day one, he learned very quickly. I planned on taking him duck hunting when he was ready and every new exercise we did, he picked up in minutes. I know he will be just as excited as I will be. Everyone who meets him has nothing but great things to say about him. He listens like very few dogs out there and wants nothing more than to make you happy. We have had no health issues what so ever and look forward to spending many years with him. I would recommend buying from her to anyone. Labrador puppy scammers have even worked their way into the pet space. Sadly, criminals have been creating realistic websits claiming to sell Labrador puppies however all images and videos have been stolen online. The puppy is not in the scammers possession. Tips for Avoiding Online Labrador puppy Scams Ask for multiple pictures of the pet, including poses with specific items a recent newspaper, a tennis ball, etc. Ask for a phone number for the person selling the puppy and a veterinary clinic the pet has been to. If they do give the phone numbers, call and ask questions. If the seller says they are in a particular state but asks you to send money elsewhere, especially another country, avoid it. If the person is claiming to be a breeder, ask for breeder registration information. Never pay in cash via Zelle, Cashapp, money order or Western Union. Pet insurance is NOT required for a pet to be shipped or to travel. Do research to get a sense of what a fair price is for the breed you are interested in adopting. Think twice if they are selling a purebred puppy for free or at a very low price for the breed. It should be a red flag if e-mail communications have broken English or very poor grammar. Adopting a new Labrador puppy is an exciting time. Your best bet is to find an ethical breeder or a reputable local rescue group or shelter. If you are worried about a pet adoption scam you can search the sellers details to see if they are listed on our Labrador scammer list using our search function.

Life Span Did You Know? Although a mixed breed can take on any combination of traits from the parent breeds, Lhasa-Poo tend to be friendly, affectionate, and playful dogs that are loyal to their families. This designer dog breed is a small dog with a big heart. They tend to be social and bond closely with their families. They tend to have a sweet, friendly disposition and a playful, energetic personality. They tend to get along well with children, other dogs, and other pets. Because their small size makes them susceptible to injury during accidental rough play or falls common to younger children, they are a better fit for older children who know how to interact appropriately with a dog and can handle them gently. As with any dog breed, socialization and training early on are important and the same is true for the Lhasa-Poo. They do make alert watchdogs, but they tend to be friendly dogs, so they do not tend to make good guard dogs. They can be prone to barking, but training early on can help curb this behavior. Lhasa-Poo are highly adaptable dogs. Their small size makes them a good fit for apartment living and they adapt just as well to larger homes. They do well in most climates, but may need to bundle up in the winter to keep warm. Having some basic winter dog products on hand is a big help when the temperatures drop. These small dogs are also sensitive to heat as with most dog breeds. Because these dogs thrive on attention and bond closely with their families, they do not like to be left alone. A mixed breed can inherit the genetic conditions of one, both, or neither of the parent breeds. Reputable breeders will screen their stock to avoid passing genetic conditions to puppies. Both of the parent breeds tend to be eager to please and highly intelligent. Although they tend to be easy to train, they can sometimes have a stubborn streak. So, your Lhasa-Poo can be highly trainable, but may have a stubborn streak, which can be challenging for first-time dog owners to navigate. For this mixed breed, it may be a good idea to be prepared to enroll in puppy training and obedience classes. Aside from the training, these classes can help further strengthen the bond you have with your puppy and are also a great opportunity to socialize a puppy. Lhasa-Poo tend to have a long coat that can be wavy or curly and can be clipped short. Although they do not shed much, they do need a lot of grooming in order for their coat to stay healthy. Because their fur is prone to tangles and mats, you will need to brush them daily. If their coat is clipped short, you can likely get away with brushing a few times a week. Bathing is on an as-needed basis, but your Lhasa-Poo will need professional grooming every weeks. In addition to coat care, you will also need to handle nail, ear, and dental care for your Lhasa-Poo. Download Article There are several other dog breeds that have similarities in appearance to a Pug. However, if you are aware of the differences between the breeds, you can obtain a better understanding of whether or not a dog is a Pug. All rights reserved. This image may not be used by other entities without the express written consent of wikiHow, Inc. A Pekingese can seem exactly like a Pug, especially if it has a short coat. Most Pekingese, however, have quite long fur. Both breeds have wrinkles and flat muzzles, but a Pekingese's tail won't be curled like a Pug's - instead, it hangs over the dog's back. Pekingese can also come in different coat colors than Pugs, though both can be seen in fawn and black. Despite having longer fur, Pekingese don't shed as much as Pugs, but still a moderate amount. French Bulldogs are another popular breed with wrinkles and a flat muzzle. They are slightly bigger than Pugs and therefore not a member of the toy group and have short, stubby tails. Their ears are perked, rather than the pug's folded ears. A solid black or tan and black Frenchie may have white markings on the chest or stomach, differentiating it from a Pug. Two stubborn, flat-faced breeds, Pugs and English Bulldogs have a lot in common. For example, both have faces coated with wrinkles. However, Bulldogs have short, stumpy tails, while pugs have longer, curled tails. Bulldogs can come in many more color varieties, such as brown or brown with white markings. Pugs are smaller than Bulldogs, as Bulldogs are members of the non-sporting group. Bulldogs also have different ears than Pugs. These two breeds are roughly equal in size and body structure. However, Boston Terriers usually have perked up ears and stubby tails, and they tend to be black and white, while black Pugs aren't seen with white markings. They also have completely different origins - Boston terriers originate in the United States, while Pugs date back to Ancient China. Boxers are medium-sized dogs and larger than Pugs, but the two both tend to have flat, black muzzles. A Boxer can have either cropped or uncropped ears, along with a natural or docked tail. A Boxer's natural tail is longer than a pug's and isn't curled, while the docked tail is very short. Boxers are usually brown or black in color, but also are seen in white, brindle, and more color variants. Pugs aren't typically seen in a brown coat. Pugs and Bullmastiffs may look a little similar in appearance, but Bullmastiffs are much larger dogs. Pugs are small dogs generally lap dogs , while Bullmastiffs are large dogs sometimes used for guarding. Bullmastiffs have long tails that don't curl over their backs. Both dogs have wrinkles, but Bullmastiffs have usually larger muzzles. Chinese origins[ edit ] Pugs were brought from China to Europe in the sixteenth century. The pet pugs were highly valued by Chinese Emperors, and the royal dogs were kept in luxury and guarded by soldiers. In Tibet , Buddhist monks kept pugs as pets in their monasteries. Pugs were painted by Goya in Spain, and in Italy they rode up front on private carriages, dressed in jackets and pantaloons that matched those of the coachman. They were used by the military to track animals and people, and were also employed as guard dogs. His self-portrait , which is now in London's Tate Gallery , includes his pug, Trump. Every carriage I meet here has a Pug in it. Many responded to the breed's image of anti-functionalism and diminutive size during this period. The modern pug's appearance probably changed after when a new wave of pugs were imported directly from China. These pugs had shorter legs and the modern-style pug nose. The British aristocrat Lady Brassey is credited with making black pugs fashionable after she brought some back from China in .Hogarth's painting from the 18th century depicts the originally longer muzzle, as well as the picture in a edition of Brehms Tierleben. Since there has been a trend in some countries to breed "retro pugs". Following the deaths of pugs and other brachycephalic breeds, several airlines either banned their transport in cargo or enacted seasonal restrictions. Pugs have elongated palates. When excited, they are prone to " reverse sneezing " which causes them to quickly and seemingly laboriously gasp and snort. The veterinary name for this is pharyngeal gag reflex and it is caused by fluid or debris getting caught under the palate and irritating the throat or limiting breathing. Reverse sneezing episodes are usually not harmful, and massaging the dog's throat or covering its nose in order to make it breathe through its mouth can often shorten a sneezing fit. In serious cases, it makes breathing even more difficult and puts added pressure on the larynx. If this happens, one should inquire with their veterinarian whether or not surgery is needed to open the nostrils. If the prolapse happens on a regular basis, the pug might require surgery. This condition is caused when parasitic mites, that are often present in a dog's skin without causing symptoms, are allowed to do damage because their host has a weakened immune system. It is a problem for many young pugs, although not usually a major one, and is easily treatable, but some are especially susceptible and present with a systemic form of the condition. The condition occurs when two parts of a spinal vertebra do not fuse properly while a young pug is still growing, resulting in an irregularly shaped spinal cavity which can put pressure on the spinal cord. Pug photo, ca .Note its small head and long legs. A pug by Carl Reichert. The pug that was predominantly featured in the commercials was Cheeka. A few other adverts also appeared in the following months, inspired by the idea of a dog following a boy. But one pug with features that are a little different has captured attention online. Nola, who is almost a year old, lives in the Netherlands with owners Gerjanne and Elieke Bijker. She is a "retro pug. Which makes her 75 percent pug and 25 percent beagle," Nola's owner Bijker told Newsweek. This way pugs can go back to their original and healthy state. Part pug, part beagle, she has been praised for being much closer in appearance to the original pug breed. As breeds increase in popularity, so too do health issues. Bill Lambert, a spokesperson for The Kennel Club told Newsweek: "Breeding dogs with overly flat faces can contribute to serious health complications—but sadly it is something that has developed in some examples of these and other flat-faced breeds over the years, often driven by profit, fashion and celebrity influence, because it is perceived to look cute. Nola the retro pug is closer to the original breed's look, before increasingly flat faces were bred through generations. On TikTok , more than 5 million people were amazed at her look and praised her owners for advocating for the healthy breeding. But you can also call Nola a puggle," said Bijker. With pugs it's also common to cut off their tails, but Nola still has her curly tail. Are they healthier than purebred Pugs? Some breeds, ones that never want to go for a run or fetch a ball, have this trait because they are physically unable to keep up with their canine cousins. One of the traits that sedentary pups have in common is often a flat face. History and Original Purpose The original Pug was a small dog with a substantial muzzle. But they have been selectively bred over the last century to achieve the flat-faced look they have now. Show guidelines for the breed suggest a flatter face being desirable, and this has really got out of control. The Jack Russell was designed for fitness and exercise, as expert ratters. They became family pets in more recent years due to their loving and loyal personalities, but have always been first and foremost a working farm dog. Retro Pug Appearance As a mixed breed, the appearance of the retro Pug can be quite unpredictable. Hybrid dogs can inherit any mixture of qualities from their parent breeds, which is part of the huge debate over mixed breeds vs pure breeds. You can read more about that debate here. Size The retro Pug will be a small mixed breed, as both of its parent breeds are similar sizes. Jack Russell Terriers will grow to between 10 and 15 inches tall. They will weigh between 13 and 17 pounds as a healthy adult. Pugs, on the other hand, are slightly smaller. They will grow between 9 and 12 inches tall, weighing 14 to 18 pounds as an adult. A mix of these two breeds will fall somewhere in the middle of these statistics. But, it is going to be a small breed. Face Shape Some retro Pugs will have flatter faces than others. This means, they can still suffer from the same health problems that brachycephaly causes. Not only does the mixed breed try to combat the short snout, it also tries to tackle the shallow eye sockets of brachycephalic dogs. Coat and Colors The best way to predict the color of your mixed breed is to take a look at its parents. Black and fawn are the main colors of the Pug breed. Whereas, the Jack Russell Terrier is mostly white, with black, brown, or tan markings. The amount of markings will vary from one Jack Russell to another. Pugs have a short, glossy coat. But Jack Russells have dense, double coats that are either smooth, broken, or rough. Take a look at the parents to predict what type of coat your Jack Russell Pug mix will inherit. Retro Pug Temperament This breed has a loving temperament. They are friendly with both children and adults, and generally fit in well in most homes. Their small size certainly helps! As well as being social, Pugs are also affectionate and loyal dogs that form strong bonds with their families. They are an intelligent breed that often responds well to training. They can also be quite brave and loud. Jack Russell Terriers are fearless, confident, and loyal dogs. They are active, but also often quite vocal! This breed has a lot of energy to burn each day. Not getting enough exercise can result in unwanted behaviors, such as destructive tendencies. Training and Exercising your Retro Pug Both parent breeds are intelligent dogs, so they are likely to enjoy training, and learn quickly. They will respond best to positive reinforcement training. The Jack Russell parent breed needs a lot of exercise. This is partly to reduce destructive tendencies that result from boredom. But, they also need it to keep healthy. Pugs also enjoy exercise, and need it to stay healthy. But, unfortunately, their facial structure makes it difficult. Brachycephalic breeds tend to overheat more easily than other breeds. Plus, their flat faces makes it harder for them to breathe normally, as their oxygen flow is restricted. This difficulty breathing also makes swimming quite a dangerous form of exercise. So, take care of your mix when exercising it. Some retro Pugs will have flatter faces than others. Special Care Many people believe that mixed breed dogs are healthier than purebred dogs, thanks to increased genetic diversity. However, mixed breeds can still be prone to the health conditions of their parent breeds. Responsible breeders will health test dogs they are planning to breed from to minimise the risk of passing these issues on. Pug Health The main health problem that Pugs suffer from is due to their facial structure. This breed is brachycephalic. Because of this they suffer from: Overheating. Life Span Did You Know? The Pug, or Pug Dog, is famous for its flat-faced appearance and large, soulful eyes. They are an ancient dog breed that originated in China over 2, years ago. They were originally developed as a refined pet of Chinese royalty along with the Pekingese and the Shih Tzu. During this time, the Pug was considered a national treasure that outsiders could only access if one was gifted to them. Dutch traders from the s can be credited with bringing the Pug onto the world stage when they brought some back to Europe with them. The Pug made its way to the United States in the s. Now, the Pug is a popular dog breed worldwide. They are a popular companion that provides their owners with plenty of love and laughter from their comedic and playful antics. The Pug is a playful and outgoing dog breed with a charming personality. They tend to be very loving towards children and also get along well with other pets and dogs. They are a companion breed at heart known for their gentle nature and sociable personality. They love to give love and receive it in return. Their sensitive nature makes them intuitive as well and Pugs will often sense the moods of their owners and react accordingly. They crave attention and affection from their owners and are big fans of napping. This dog breed is often described as an ideal house dog and they are moderately adaptable. They will do well in homes of any size, including apartments. The Pug also adapts well to city or country life and are a good fit for singles or families of any size. Although they are highly adaptable to various living situations, they are less adaptable to climates. Pugs are very sensitive to the heat and overexertion, so they are best-suited to moderate climates. They also love to be with their families and will not be happy if left alone for a long time. As with any dog breed, the Pug has some health conditions to be aware of. In particular, corneal ulcers and dry eye are some potential eye problems that can occur. Additionally, Pugs can be susceptible to hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and encephalitis. Asking the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and to see health clearances can help allay concerns for some of these health issues. Pugs are also big foodies. They love to eat! Their love for food means this dog breed is prone to obesity. As a brachycephalic dog, their large head and short snout often cause respiratory problems, which can limit their exercise at times and contribute to weight gain. This will cause them to quickly gasp and snort, which can sound relatively alarming. These episodes are usually not harmful as your Pug is just clearing their palate and throat. The Pug tends to be easy to train and is a good fit for owners of any experience level. They are eager to please their owners and tend to pick up on commands quickly. They are sensitive souls and their feelings can be hurt easily, so they will not respond well to harsh corrections. This dog breed responds best to consistent training that focuses on positive rewards and will benefit from participation in puppy training classes. Pugs have a smooth, glossy, and short coat. Their fur is fine and soft. Although their coat is generally low-maintenance, it will shed throughout the year. Aside from brushing, Pugs only need occasional baths on an as-needed basis. Because Pugs have ears that drop down, they can be susceptible to moisture, dirt, or debris. Checking their ears regularly and cleaning as needed helps to keep them healthy and comfortable. The same goes for their iconic face wrinkles. Daily brushing is ideal, but if your Pug is not allowing you to do that, a few times a week should be sufficient. Getting your Pug used to these grooming tasks as a puppy will help make it a positive bonding experience and a much easier process throughout their life. This dog breed has a low to moderate energy level. Generally, daily walks and some play sessions are enough exercise for this dog breed. They may have short bursts of energy as they have a very playful nature, but they will tire easily. Some Pugs can handle a little more activity and even compete in some dogs sports like agility, rally, and obedience. Make sure you check with your vet first before jumping into dog sports with your dog. A full-grown Pug will usually stand 10 to 11 inches tall at the shoulders and weigh between 14 and 18 pounds. This dog breed generally lives for years. The Pug was a popular pet of the Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. Featured Pug Article.

Discover the online program that more than 57, dog owners have used to rapidly transform their dog into a well-behaved, obedient furry friend. Possibly even more important is how to know what to vaccinate for and how often vaccines should be administered to our dogs. Generally speaking for adult GSD's, the most important things to vaccinate for are canine parvovirus and also for canine distemper. There are many combo vaccines on the market that can be purchased that containe vaccines to cover several things such as distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, etc at one time. Many factors are important when deciding on which combo shot to purchase and give your GSD when needed - for example, depending on the age of the animal to be vaccinated, it's actual vaccine history, it's current health, etc. Never vaccinate a sick or injured GSD. For optimal immunity German Shepherd puppies can be vaccinated at 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 weeks of age, and then every 3 years as adult pets. If, however, there are any degenerative or immune mediated diseases or history of cancer, then the pet should be evaluated to determine the necessity of vaccinations after the puppy hood series has ended. While a vaccination for rabies is required by law in most states, and must be administered by a licensed veterinarian, many German Shepherd owners, for financial reasons, will choose to vaccinate their pets at home for all other infectious diseases. Administering GSD vaccinations: When using any vaccines that must be mixed first, there are four simple steps to follow in vaccinating dogs. Shake mixture thoroughly. Since most vaccinations are given by subcutaneous injection just under the skin , the most convenient area to give the shot is located in the shoulder area, just behind the neck near the collar area. Other important factors in giving GSD Vaccinations: Always use a separate sterile needle and syringe for each injection, and a fresh and clean needle for each dog you're giving a vaccine to never share needles among your pets and then safely dispose of all used needles and syringes. As always, if you have any questions about administering your own GSD Vaccinations yourself, contact your veterinarian or your German Shepherd breeder. They will be happy to answer your questions and to show you the proper way to give your German Shepherd the vaccines that it needs to prevent it from getting many horrible diseases. For more detailed information about puppy vaccinations and the diseases that these vaccines prevent, please read on. I said to him "There now you're done. It provides protection against two of the most deadly viral diseases that affect dogs — canine distemper and canine parvo. Since puppies do not retain antibodies against any disease for long. The maternal antibodies already present in their system remove the antibodies produced via vaccination. So, it is absolutely necessary to keep vaccinating your puppy at an interval of 2 to 4 weeks against Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza and Leptospirosis DHPPiL until they are about 20 weeks old. Once they have received their final dose of DHPPiL you need to repeat the vaccine booster after 1 year. Sadly, rabies has NO cure. We often tell ourselves that as long as our dogs are not bitten by a feral dog or animal, there is no risk of rabies. Now, rabies is commonly spread through bites. However, it spreads through the contact of the saliva of the affected animal with the blood of the recipient. So, if any infected animal licks a small open wound, there is a good chance of the transmission of the virus. There is no point taking such a huge risk especially since there is no way to prevent rabies transmission after a bite from an infected animal. When it comes to rabies, prevention via vaccination is the ONLY way. Get your pet vaccinated against rabies by the time they are 90 days old. If they received their anti-rabies vaccination when they were younger than 45 days, they will require a booster vaccination when they are 90 days old. There is a common belief that it is not prevalent in India. Note: canine coronavirus only affects dogs. It usually presents as digestive distress. It is extremely easy to confuse canine coronavirus infection with canine parvo. It spreads quite easily and rapidly. Eating from an infected food bowl, sniffing infected poop or pee, and licking infected surfaces can cause your dog to become infected. So basically, every time your puppy or dog goes out for a walk, they are at risk of being exposed to canine coronavirus. The only way to ensure that your dog never gets infected is by getting them vaccinated on time against canine coronavirus. Kennel Cough Vaccine For Dogs and Puppies Puppies and dogs are frequently exposed to kennel cough especially when they visit boardings and doggy parks. The name itself states that it can spread quite easily between dogs at kennels. It is a very common bacterial infection seen in shelters or any other place that houses multiple dogs. Although treatable, it can result in severe respiratory distress, especially in flat-faced brachycephalic breeds. The best decision is to protect your pup from kennel cough with just one jab. It is a yearly vaccine that protects all dogs against Bordetella kennel cough infection. It seems like every time you turn around, there's another shot your pup needs. And keeping track of all the different types of vaccinations can be a real challenge. But don't worry, we're here to help. In this article, we provide a comprehensive A-to-Z guide for dog vaccination in India - covering everything you need to know about what shots are available, when they should be administered, and more! Why vaccinate your dog? There are a number of important reasons to vaccinate your dog. Vaccinations help protect your dog from a variety of serious and potentially deadly diseases. They also help reduce the spread of disease among dogs and from dogs to humans. Vaccinating your dog is one of the best things you can do to keep them healthy and happy and is an important part of responsible pet parenting. So here's a quick rundown of the most common vaccinations dogs need. All dogs should be vaccinated against rabies, and booster shots should be given every one to three years depending on state law. Parvovirus: Parvovirus is a deadly disease that can affect dogs of all ages, but puppies are especially vulnerable. The virus attacks the gastrointestinal system, causing severe vomiting and diarrhoea. Parvovirus can also cause heart problems and death. All dogs should be vaccinated against parvovirus, with booster shots given every one to two years. Distemper: Distemper is a highly contagious disease that affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems of dogs. It can cause severe coughing, vomiting, diarrhoea, seizures, and death. Puppies are especially vulnerable to the disease. All dogs should be vaccinated against distemper, with booster shots given every one to two years. Leptospirosis: Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects the kidneys and liver of dogs. It can be transmitted through contact with contaminated water or soil. The disease can cause severe kidney damage and death. All dogs should be vaccinated against leptospirosis, with booster shots given every one to two years. Infectious Canine Hepatitis: Hepatitis is a viral disease that affects the liver of dogs. The symptoms can range from loss of appetite and thirst, fever and bleeding. It is usually spread through contact with contaminated or infected urine, saliva or faeces. Non-core Vaccines for Dogs: There are a few vaccines that are considered "non-core" for dogs, which means that they are not necessarily required for all dogs. However, your veterinarian may recommend them based on your dog's lifestyle and risk factors. Bordetella kennel cough is a bacteria that can cause respiratory infections in dogs. It is often spread through close contact with other dogs, so if your dog socialises with other dogs regularly, your veterinarian may recommend this vaccine. Canine ParaInfluenza is a virus that can cause respiratory illness in dogs. It is most commonly spread through close contact with other infected dogs. You might want to get this vaccine once you discuss it with your veterinarian. Lyme Vaccine is used to help prevent Lyme Disease, which is caused by a bacteria transmitted by ticks. If your dog spends time in areas where ticks are common such as woods or tall grass , your veterinarian may recommend this vaccine. Coronavirus: The canine coronavirus CCoV is a virus that can cause intestinal infections and abdominal discomfort in dogs. It is most commonly spread through close contact with other infected dogs, therefore, if your dog socialises with other dogs regularly, you can consider administering this vaccine once you discuss it with your veterinarian. They will need a booster shot every weeks of core vaccines until they are 16 weeks old. After that, they will need an annual booster shot. Our pets have increased risk of diseases as they are susceptible to various organisms in the environment directly or indirectly. Vaccinating your pet is much economical than treatment against diseases. The common diseases against which the pets can be vaccinated include — Rabies, Infectious Canine Hepatitis, Canine Distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis and kennel cough. However, this temporary maternal protection wanes by the age of 6—9 weeks. To continue and enhance this protection, vaccinations are available to protect the animal from contracting various highly contagious diseases. There is a large anti-vaccination theory that floats around human and animal vaccination protocols. However, keeping in mind the kind of diseases that are endemic to India or are largely prevalent, we need to compulsorily ensure that we do not just vaccinate our little pets on time but also remember to give their boosters on time. An important thing to remember is that different veterinary doctors can have different vaccination protocols. This protects the puppy from deadly life-threatening airborne viruses such as Parvo and Distemper. Around 8 weeks of age, a combined cluster of vaccines commonly known as 5-in-1, 7-in-1, 9-in-1 or in-1 is given with a Booster Shot after 21 days again. These protect your puppy from viruses such as Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Distemper, Leptospira, and some other deadly diseases, which can be fatal for your puppy. There is a base level protection against five diseases and in the rest of the vaccines, there is increased protection against more strains of Leptospira. This vaccine is a once in a lifetime vaccine that protects your pet sufficiently from Kennel Cough. Animals are often susceptible to the infection when their immunity is compromised due to some other reason. The kennel cough vaccine is often recommended before you can board your dog at a hostel or foster. For Pet Cats, there are 3 core vaccinations that are vaccinated together in one injection commonly known as Feligen or Tricat in India. This can be given to a kitten between 6 to 8 weeks of age followed by a booster at 16 weeks of age. Anti-Rabies Vaccination is also given to cats, following exactly the same protocol as dogs i. Now you know all the important Vaccinations your pet dog or cat should receive in the first year. So, what are the other important things to remember about Pet Vaccinations? Some vaccinations are required to be given boosters annually, and some are required once in three years. Be sure to ask your vet about when vaccine boosters are required and post reminders for yourself. I would recommend setting a reminder or an alarm on your phone since so many apps are equipped for this purpose. Insist that your Vet gives your pet a complete once over before administering any vaccination. Vaccines should not be administered if your pet is running a fever or in any poor health condition. Vaccines must be given to healthy animals only. Some pets do not mind injections and do not even realise they are being given a shot! However, some pets are sensitive and will yowl incessantly at the prick. If this happened the first time around, the next time, you can request your vet to use a thinner gauge needle or an insulin syringe needle. Distract your pet while he or she is getting a vaccine. Holding them firmly while being injected is extremely important. You can also speak to them, lift their front legs or tap them on the nose to distract them. You may observe that your pet is slightly dull the day after vaccination or is not eating well. If this persists for more than 24 hours, please visit your vet. If you feel a lump at the point of the injection, which is increasing over a month or larger than 2 cm or is simply present for more than 3 months, please make sure that your Vet is aware of this. Also, remember, that if you ever need to travel abroad with your Pet, timely vaccination along with their records is absolutely critical, so be meticulous about storing your Vaccination Certificates and records. When these pests are allowed to grow, there will be a host of health complications. The following is a suggested schedule for eradicating worms check with your veterniarian for clarifications and ways to identify a worm infestation - every fortnight for pups aged three months or younger, once a month for those between three and six months of age, once in two months for puppies between six and twelve months of age and after that point, every three months. Otherwise, vaccination has to be given as early as possible. The booster dose is given 3 weeks after the first dose after which it must be given annually. The first anti-rabies vaccination is given when the puppy is three months old and the booster dose must be given annually. Both de-worming and vaccination on a regular basis are essential to avoid serious health problems for your pet. Your veterinarian will give you a vaccination card that will contain dates and names of vaccines given.

These diverse experiences, coupled with love and lots of snuggles from family and friends, are the keys to a relaxed puppy and a well-socialized and calm adult Labradoodle with a compelling and flexible personality. All of the puppy culture experiences are important, but the family-raised element truly sets you up for success as a doodle parent. Health testing to the highest standard We want your doodle puppy to grow up happy and healthy and become a treasured family member for many years to come. You can rest easy knowing that your Labradoodle puppy has the healthiest parents possible. Your puppy will go home with you with a clean health report from our local veterinarian and all their puppy vaccinations through eight weeks of age. Lastly, while genetic health issues are rare, we include a two-year genetic health guarantee with all of our pups. Forever family connection and support One of the many reasons I decided to pivot from doodle parent to doodle breeder is that I love seeing these pups become cherished family members when matched with their forever families. Some folks adopt their Labradoodle and never need additional contact, and that's perfectly okay. Others are comforted knowing I am delighted to join and support them on this journey. I'm just a call or text away if you ever have questions. Plus, you'll quickly become an expert dog photographer if you're not one already. If you feel up to sharing, my family and I love seeing how your doodle happily ever after turned out. We raise high-quality Mini Labradoodles as well as a few other breeds.
