Then over time, we started placing our favorite dog nail clippers out on the coffee table while combing her hair or massaging her paws. This way, she could become familiar with the dog nail clippers too. Eventually, we gently held her paws and lightly touched the nail clippers to her nails so she could get the idea of nail clipping without us actually clipping the nails. Throughout our mock nail trims, she got lots of praise and sweet talk. At first, we hand fed her rather than using a dog food bowl so that we could use mealtime to bond with her.
