He is 7 months old and weighed 85lbs in this picture. He is a German Shepherd. Crixus is the best dog I have ever had. I can't believe how smart he is. Sadly, she passed away shortly after this photo was taken at the age of 8 years. He is a 3-year-old male German Shepherd. The dog on the right is Elsa. She is also a purebred German Shepherd, but due to her coat type her ears were too heavy and just would not stay up. They love to have their picture taken. To make a long story short, the end result was that he had a very large nearly cantalope size splenic tumor which ruptured ultimatley causing his untimely passing. He was playing and being his usual self at 8 in the morning and not even 12 hours later, he took his last breath. This came from our vet. As soon as Ace began to mope around we called our vet right away. They told us to bring him in right then, which we did and they got right down to business. He weighed his usual 90 pounds and had no hight temperature, but was breathing hard and would not move. Our vet examined him and said he was in a very grave state. His gums and tongue were fading in color so much so that she called the emergency vet and alerted them to our impending arrival. We took him there and they too, were on the ball. They did an ultrasound and it confirmed our vet's suspicions. He passed away before the ultrasound was even complete. These tumors grow very rapidly and 9 times out of 10 they are cancerous. We never had the first clue. Our hearts are broken, and we miss him terribly, but if this at least helps raise awareness, then our Ace's loss was not all in vain.

Pug puppies can be quite expensive, and there are several reasons for it. Some of the biggest among them are discussed below. Pugs are a brachycephalic breed and have short, flat faces. This physical characteristic can make breeding them more difficult and costly. Furthermore, breeding pugs require a lot of knowledge, experience, and resources. Therefore, you may have to spend much more to get these pups than other breeds. Rarity Being an exotic breed, Pugs are not as common as other breeds. This is because they are prone to many health issues and breeders have to spend a lot of money to keep them healthy. Likewise, Pugs need a safe environment and providing that comes at a cost. This allows the breeders to charge more for them and dog enthusiasts are willing to pay. Reputable Breeder Reputable breeders are more likely to take care of the health and well-being of the puppies. Reputed breeders also provide a lot of extras, like microchips, vaccinations, and health guarantees. Are Pugs in Constant Pain? Click here to find out. What Papers are Needed for Getting Pugs? When getting a pug, several papers are typically needed. The most important ones are discussed below. Registration Papers They prove that the pug is purebred and has a known pedigree. They will also include the unique registration number of the dog. Can Pugs Eat Strawberries? Click here to learn more. Health Certificate This is another important paper that is issued by a veterinarian. It states that the pug has been examined and is in good health. Bill This document carries all the information about the terms of the sale between the breeder and the new owner. It includes the purchase price, the date of sale, and any guarantees or warranties that are included. Can Pugs Eat Watermelon? Importance of Paperwork While Getting Pugs Paperwork is an important aspect to consider when getting a pug. Registration papers are essential when showing a pug in competitions or breeding them. They are also useful to maintain the integrity of the breed. Similarly, a health certificate is also important to ensure that the pug is in good health. It will allow the owner to plan for any future vaccinations or treatments that may be necessary. The bill of sale is also an important document because it shows the terms of the sale. It has all the necessary information about the deal, including price, date of sale, and any warranties. Can a Pug Be a Service Dog? However, the cost can vary in some cases because it depends on several factors. For example, your location, the reputation of the breeder, and the overall health of the pug. In most cases, purebred pugs with papers cost much more than pups without proper documentation. It is important to thoroughly research breeders and their reputations before making a purchase. This is because buying from a reputable breeder can ensure the health and well-being of the pug. How Much is the Cheapest Pug? The cost of a pug can vary greatly depending on the location, breeder, and supply and demand. However, prices can be lower or higher depending on the circumstances. Some of the cheapest pugs may come from backyard breeders or pet stores. These breeders have lower standards of breeding and care. Hence, your chances of adopting an unhealthy pug increase. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. A few toys should do the trick, but make sure to provide them with at least a few puzzle toys to get their brains working. Pugs thrive on attention and most are happy with an hour or so of playtime in the yard, two walks per day, and an occasional trip to the park to socialize with other dogs. Training your Pug beyond basic obedience training is a great way to bond with them and provide mental stimulation. Pugs are eager to please and attentive to their owners, so teaching them tricks or training them in agility are excellent ways to occupy their minds and enhance your relationship. Pugs only eat about pounds of food per year and are mostly healthy, although setting aside extra cash to deal with emergencies is a good idea. Food, medication, and pet insurance—if you purchase it—will be the highest regular costs, but occasional vet visits and extra medication for potential eye problems could become significant outlays as well. Additional Costs to Factor In Most Pug owners have success training their dogs themselves, but some people still opt for professional training. Dog sitting is another additional cost that only applies to some people. Before you purchase your new buddy, make sure you can budget enough money per month to cover food and medication costs. It is also a good idea to have money set aside to cover unexpected medical expenses. Training games, obedience training, and makeshift agility courses are excellent inexpensive ways to keep your Pug happy and make for some great owner-dog bonding time. Your upfront costs could be significantly reduced if you adopt a dog from a local shelter. The main drivers are food, medications like heartworm and flea and tick prevention, and pet insurance. You might also like:. Unfortunately, Pugs are not the cheapest of dogs to buy or raise. And in spite of what we know about Pug health complications and how they correlate to the Pug price overall, we continue to demand them from our local breeders. This is perhaps because, as bred companion dogs, Pugs make excellent additions to homes with children and other pets. Pugs are also small enough to make wonderful travel buddies while still being robust enough to withstand the less-than-gentle play from rowdy youngsters. Unfortunately, much of the cost has to do with supply and demand, not to mention complicated breeding issues. Keep reading to learn more. There is a lot more that goes into breeding healthy Pugs than you might think. But why is the Pug price so high? Well, there are two reasons. One, Pugs are popular. Dogs that are popular tend to be costlier simply due to supply and demand. The second reason the Pug price is so high is because breeding Pugs is a complicated and even controversial practice. Pugs belong to a number of flat-faced breed types known as brachycephalic dogs. Brachycephalic dogs are dogs who have been bred purposefully over generations to ensure their faces are as flat as possible. While this look is desirable amongst many dog enthusiasts, it is also detrimental to the dog. Dogs like the Pug tend to suffer chronically from health issues like breathing difficulties, heat intolerance, digestive issues, exercise induced collapse, and more. Sadly, brachycephalic breeds also have higher risks of complications during the birthing process. Pugs are especially at higher risk, as they naturally have a larger head and a more narrow pelvis. A Pug dam, a pregnant female Pug , will have a more difficult time birthing her litter for this very reason; her pelvis is narrow and her puppies heads are large. This often results in birth complications, leading many Pug dames to undergo C-sections in an effort to save the litter. Not only is this dangerous and often traumatic for the mother and puppies, C-sections are also costly for the breeder. And this is where Pug price and the cost of breeding Pugs goes hand in hand. Of course, these costs can and do vary depending on the breeder and the type of dog they are breeding. Plus, there is a lot that goes into breeding a healthy Pug litter that takes place long before your Pug puppy is even born. Breeders break the costs down in a category of three. You can see the entire breakdown of what it costs to be a breeder according to The Breeding Business Handbook here. Pugs who come from show quality parents are going to be more than Pug puppies bred specifically for companionship. Female Pugs also tend to cost more, as do Pugs with certain coat colors. Of course, not every breeder will sell Pugs for more or less based solely on color or gender. And this is where the importance of understanding what a reputable breeder is. What Is A Reputable Breeder? Not all breeders are reputable, and you are more likely to encounter less-than-quality breeders when looking for a dog as popular as the Pug. Sadly, when puppies become popular, this often leads to opportunistic scammers looking to breed and sell these puppies as quickly as possible in order to make some quick cash. These irresponsible breeding practices often lead to detrimental health issues for puppies down the road. This in turn costs the unwitting buyer of that puppy much more money and heartache in the long run. But what is a reputable breeder and how can you tell for sure? Paperwork should also be provided that proves your puppy has been health screened and cleared of any serious medical issues. All of this correlates into the Pug price up front, but it is worth it in the long run. Generally, these Pug puppies are sold as companion dogs, and that price is a direct correlation with responsible breeding practices. Beware of prices that are too good to be true when looking at Pug price, but equally watch out for puppy prices that are outlandish. Going through a rescue to adopt a Pug is cheaper than buying through a breeder. Luckily, you always have the option of rescuing a Pug. While there are a number of benefits of rescuing a dog that go far beyond cost, cost is certainly one of the selling factors. And while Pugs are popular, there are plenty of shelters and rescues throughout the United States that specialize in the breed. This site contains a list of at least 60 quality Pug rescues in the United States. There are other ways you can save on Pug price when going through a rescue outside of the initial cost. If you purchase an adult Pug, there is a good chance that Pug will have already been spayed or neutered. Some adult Pugs in shelters are also already microchipped, and many have had basic training or have undergone some routine behavioral testing. All of this can save you money on your Pug price in the long run, whether it comes to training costs, first year vet expenses, vaccinations, and even supplies. Before you choose to invest in a dog, remember that you are committing to this dog and all of his needs for the rest of his life. When it comes to the lifetime Pug price, you should know that Pugs have an average lifespan of around 12 to 15 years. Luckily, Pugs are smaller dogs, which means they can actually cost less than average when it comes to their overall lifetime price. But what is all this money being spent on? Well, quite a bit actually. These health issues can affect you in more ways than one when it comes to Pug price, which is why ensuring your Pug is on a quality diet is so important. Higher quality dog food is going to be more expensive than lower quality dog food, but not by much. Wet and raw dog food is the most costly when it comes to Pug price and feeding, while dry dog food is the least expensive. Pin it to remember the Price of Pugs Why are Pugs so expensive? So just why are Pugs so expensive? One reason is because Pugs, like most other Brachycephalic dogs with flat faces and large heads , are most often born via cesarean section. Pugs are also susceptible to numerous orthopedic and hereditary diseases—so reputable breeders will conduct testing on both parents to help ensure a healthy litter. This test screens for Hip Dysplasia and Patellar Luxation. Breeders also have the option to test for Elbow Dysplasia with this screening. This important test screens for Necrotizing meningoencephalitis NME , a fatal brain disorder that can kill Pug puppies. This metabolic disease breaks down the red blood cells of a young Pug. The price will depend on several factors: The location of the breeder. The rules of supply and demand pertain to dogs as well so larger metropolitan areas are often more expensive. The pedigree of the parent Pugs. Pugs that have participated in sanctioned competitions have more expensive litters. Whether the Pug is a show quality dog or a pet quality dog. Show quality puppies with a future in competitive dog shows and breeding are more expensive. The age of the Pug. Puppies are definitely more expensive; you may occasionally find a breeder selling a retired breeding Pug or a Pug that originated at the breeder but has been returned. The color of the Pug. AKC recognized two colors : black and fawn. The Canadian Kennel Club recognizes fawn, silver fawn and black. The Federation Cynologique Internationale and the Kennel Club of the UK both recognize silver sometimes called silver-fawn , apricot often called apricot-fawn , fawn and black. The less common the color, the more expensive the dog. Attend a sanctioned dog show and talk with Pug breeders and competitors for recommendations. Ask your veterinarian for recommendations regarding reputable breeders. Do an online search for complaints. Check the Facebook page of the breeder and read through comments. Remember, however, comments can be deleted by the page owner. When you find a breeder and want to determine if they are reputable: Ask for references. The breeder should be happy to share the name and contact information for customers. Ask questions. Lots of questions. The breeder should be glad to share the test results from the health tests and screenings. Ask how often the dogs are bred. Ask to tour the kennels. Are they well maintained? Do the dogs look healthy? Beware of operations that will not let you tour the kennels and breeders that want to meet you in a parking lot to hand over the puppy. Be prepared for questions. The breeder should ask YOU questions as well; be suspicious if the breeder has no questions about your past history with pets, your living situation, etc. Ask if the breeder will take the Pug back if necessary. Ask for a contract. If medical problems are diagnosed, the breeder should readily take the pup back and provide a full refund. Pug breeders may adopt out of the area but, nonetheless, you will want to go to the breeder to meet the parents, view the kennels and bring home your puppy in person. This will add to your expenses—but breeders that transport a puppy by air are putting the dog at risk. If you want to buy a Pug online, please think again. There are numerous scams; people spend thousands of dollars for a dog and never receive a puppy. AKC warns potential pet parents to be wary of any seller asking for payment by Venmo, in gift cards or as a wire transfer. Dogs purchased from puppy mills can mean years of heartache and expensive veterinary care. The pros of purchasing from a Pug breeder: You may be able to select a puppy—including a choice of color and gender. A reputable breeder will be passionate about Pugs and will a resource for years to come. The cons of purchasing from a Pug breeder You will pay more for a Pug from a breeder than a rescue or shelter. If you find a breeder who has Pug puppies for sale at prices far lower than you are seeing from other breeders, you must suspect you are dealing with a backyard breeder who has not done health screening, with an online seller who is operating a puppy mill or is running a scam. You will need to wait until puppies are available. You will need to do your own due diligence to select a reputable breeder. Pugs in rescues are far less expensive that those at a breeder. Pugs under a year old will be the most costly. The dogs that are up for adoption at Pug rescues may be there for a variety of reasons: Death of an owner. Lost Pugs that the rescue had seen on shelter websites. Pugs a breeder no longer wanted. Whatever the reason, the Pugs in rescue may or may not come with papers, depending on whether or not the dog was surrendered with papers. You may also find Pug rescues at pet expos and special events in your area. Rescues will often have a booth with information on the rescue and a few adoptable dogs. Most dogs at purebred rescues are pulled from shelters, often open-intake shelters that may not be no-kill shelters. You will be able to adopt a Pug for far less money than purchasing a Pug from a breeder. You will be able to talk with people who are passionate about Pugs about the individual Pug you are interested in adopting. Our most recent search brought up a healthy, 7-month-old Pug puppy so you never know. Your dog may or may not be a purebred Pug and may or may not have papers. The least expensive option when it comes to Pug prices is the shelter, either a municipal shelter or a privately-operated shelter. Are you a senior? A member of the military or law enforcement? Many shelters offer special discounts. To locate a Pug at a shelter, call your local shelter or start your search online. Click on the link of adoptable Pugs in the top left corner; you can then enter your zip code to see Pugs near you. The listings will include both rescues and shelters. Unlike adopting from a Pug rescue, dogs at a shelter will generally be housed at the shelter although an increasing number utilize foster homes whenever they can, especially for puppies. If the dog is housed at the shelter, you may not know a lot about his or her personality. Talk with the shelter staff and ask if the dog has been temperament tested and if they can tell you if the dog is skittish, shy, outgoing, has any prior training, etc. And while you may see dogs listed as a Pug at a shelter, that may or may not mean they are Pugs, purebred or mixed. Shelters use their best judgement, often while intaking many dogs, so sometimes the accuracy of the breed is questionable. Since Pugs do have such a distinctive look, however, you can use your judgement to see if the dog displays usual Pug characteristics and markings. Ask the shelter if they have any background on the dogs; you may be surprised to find a puppy whose purebred mother came in as a pregnant lost dog and gave birth at the shelter. It definitely happens. The Pros of Adopting a Pug from a Shelter You are saving a life, not only of the dog you adopt but of the next dog who will be rescued due to the kennel that is now clear. Your new dog will have received a long list of veterinary services. You will have the love of a dog whose price was far less than that of a dog from a breeder. You may not know the history of the dog. FAQ What is the cheapest price for a Pug? If you find low-cost purebred Pugs listed online, please consider that you may be supporting a puppy mill. What is the Teacup Pug price? These dogs are the result of breeding the smallest runt dog of one litter to the smallest dog of another litter, producing smaller than usual Pugs—and selling them for sometimes twice as much as a traditional Pug. As you might expect, this can mean additional health problems for the puppies. Are Pugs expensive to own? While their small size means Pugs are not as expensive to own as larger breeds, due to the potential health issues discussed above they can be expensive in terms of veterinary care. Pet insurance is a good investment to help cover vet issues as they arise. Pin it to remember the Price of Pugs Posted on Last updated:. Less - Square-proportioned, compact and of a cobby build, the pug is a large dog in a little space. Its gait is strong and jaunty, but with a slight roll of the hindquarters. Its distinctive expression is soft and solicitous. Its forehead has large, deep wrinkles. Its coat is fine, smooth and short. The Pug breed is often described by the Latin phrase multum in parvo, or "much in little" or "a lot of dog in a small space", alluding to the Pug's remarkable and charming personality, despite its small size. Pugs are strong willed but rarely aggressive, and are suitable for families with children. The majority of the breed is very fond of children and sturdy enough to properly play with them. Depending on their owner's mood, they can be quiet and docile but also vivacious and teasing. Pugs tend to be intuitive and sensitive to the moods of their owners and are usually eager to please them. Pugs tend to have a somewhat lazy nature and spend a lot of time napping. They are often called "shadows" because they follow their owners around and like to stay close to the action, craving attention and affection from their owners. History There are various theories regarding the origin of the Pug breed, but the most generally accepted is that they originated in the Orient, and are a smooth-coated, longer-legged type of Pekingese. They have been well known in Europe since at least the 16th Century. After gaining favor with Royalty, the breed became very popular and even more well known. The AKC recognized the Pug in .In Canada it is CAD to .So, when purchasing from a different state, you also must consider travel fees when buying a Pug from a different country. Why Are Pugs So Expensive? Pugs are a popular dog breed currently taking 28th spot on the list of the most popular dogs in America. Lots of people want a Pug so this demand tends to increase their price. Popularity alone does not control the price of a Pug. There are many other factors that make Pugs expensive. A major one is breeding fees. It is not easy to breed a healthy Pug. Professional breeders do not just want to sell you any kind of dog. They want to show you a puppy that is cute, adheres to the breed standard and is in good health. To breed a puppy like this takes lots of money that will be reflected in the final sale price. Most of the fees that are involved within the pregnancy and birthing of Pugs are because they are brachycephalic. As a brachycephalic breed it is difficult for mothers to give birth to their pups. Going into labor is body intensive and difficulty breathing only makes the process more strenuous. Not only that but Pugs tend to have narrow hips. The heads of puppies tend to be large in proportion to their body and sometimes they cannot easily pass through the birth canal. For these two reasons Pug breeders often elect to do C-sections. Finally, before the mother can give birth, breeders must ensure that she and the father are in good health. In Pugs it is common to see brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and eye conditions. The Pug Dog Club of America recommends that all Pugs are screened for hip dysplasia, patellar luxation, and necrotizing meningoencephalitis. Pugs from these breeders are usually more expensive because breeders go to great lengths to breed healthy and high quality dogs. Not only that, but they also tend to give you a dog with all of its vaccines and registration papers. The price of a Pug can really go up when you consider genetic health testing, vet visits, membership documentations and registration fees. No documentation with the sale. No available health care records or genetic testing results of the parents. Breeders that advertise their dogs on websites like Craigslist at a cheaper price. They often breed dogs other than just Pugs. To be a part of these clubs breeders must be certified and approved to have met breeding requirements. As you search for a Pug keep in mind the type of puppy you want. Do you want a specific color? Most often breeders sell fawn or black Pugs. If you want a rare color you are going to have to do some extra searching. What kind of temperament do you want? Pugs are very social. In general they tend to be friendly, affectionate, playful and mischievous. However some may be more timid than others. Will it be healthy? Puppies should have a brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome score of zero. Sometimes you might fall in love with a Pug in a picture but later find out it is missing its health papers. In most cases you should avoid this type of puppy. Reputable breeders should be able to provide you with health papers and registration papers. They will always be clear about the kind of Pug you are buying and their pedigree. They will give you straightforward answers on anything you ask and will show you any paperwork that you ask for. They will also allow you to see the puppy and the mother. Buying from a breeder might not be the cheapest option, but it does ensure you that you are getting a healthy Pug. Cost Of Keeping A Pug Pugs live for between 12 and 15 years so adopting one is a long-term commitment. Out of all the years, the first one will generally be the most expensive. Where does this money go? We will breakdown their typical ownership costs below… Healthcare and Insurance There is no way around it. If you do get a Pug, it is highly recommended that you get insurance. Pugs often have unforeseen medical expenses because they are a brachycephalic breed. You have to be careful when exercising your Pug, especially if you live in hot areas and during the summer months. Overexertion and heat can cause make it harder for them to breathe, and if you do not recognize the signs of heat stress, your dog could end up at the vet ER. You could also find yourself paying for treatment for some of the common health issues within Pugs. Some of these include: Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome, Fold Dermatitis, obesity, hip and elbow dysplasia, and patellar luxation. Dog Food Pugs need a well-balanced diet. It is not a good idea to just give your dog whatever is left over from your last meal. They need high quality kibble that is specifically made for their breed. Pugs are small dogs so they should be eating food that is specifically made for small dogs. Puppies will eat at most 80 pounds of dry food every year, while adults eat about pounds. Some brands will cost you more. The following are some examples of kibble that you can buy for your Pug. Food Brands.

With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. We have answers. What class of dog are French Bulldog puppies for sale near Weatherford? French Bulldogs are a playful and affectionate breed of dog that belongs to the Non-Sporting Group, according to the American Kennel Club. They are known for their iconic "bat ears" and flat faces, and most exhibit short, smooth coats that are easily cared for. French Bulldogs are very social animals, and they require plenty of attention from a loving and reliable owner. Are French Bulldog puppies for sale in Weatherford non-shedding? French Bulldogs have minimal shedding compared to other breeds, but they do shed some. Because of their short, dense coats, their fur does not blow off like breeds with softer fur. Their coats may need regular brushing though to reduce the amount of fur that accumulates which can help maintain their coat in a healthy condition. They do generally require regular grooming, but occasional baths and haircuts can keep them looking sleek and dapper. In general, French Bulldogs tend to require less coat maintenance than some other breeds. What's the best dog food for Weatherford French Bulldog puppies for sale? Your French Bulldog's Health We know that because you care so much about your dog , you want to take good care of her. That is why we have summarized the health concerns we will be discussing with you over the life of your French Bulldog. By knowing about health concerns specific to French Bulldogs, we can tailor a preventive health plan to watch for and hopefully prevent some predictable risks. That does not mean your dog will have these problems; it just means that she is more at risk than other dogs. We will describe the most common issues seen in French Bulldogs to give you an idea of what may come up in her future. This guide contains general health information important to all canines as well as the most important genetic predispositions for French Bulldogs. At the end of the article, we have also included a description of what you can do at home to keep your Frenchie looking and feeling her best. And unfortunately, your French Bulldog is more likely than other dogs to have problems with her teeth. It starts with tartar build-up on the teeth and progresses to infection of the gums and roots of the teeth. In fact, your French Bulldog's life span may be cut short by one to three years! Infections French Bulldogs are susceptible to bacterial and viral infections — the same ones that all dogs can get — such as parvo, rabies, and distemper. Many of these infections are preventable through vaccination , which we will recommend based on the diseases we see in our area, her age, and other factors. Obesity Obesity can be a significant health problem in French Bulldogs. It is a serious disease that may cause or worsen joint problems, metabolic and digestive disorders, back pain and heart disease. Instead, give her a hug, brush her fur or teeth, play a game with her, or perhaps take her for a walk. Parasites All kinds of worms and bugs can invade your Frenchie's body, inside and out. Everything from fleas and ticks to ear mites can infest her skin and ears. Hookworms, roundworms, heartworms , and whipworms can get into her system in a number of ways: drinking unclean water, walking on contaminated soil, or being bitten by an infected mosquito. Some of these parasites can be transmitted to you or a family member and are a serious concern for everyone. Riverstone Veterinary Group will also recommend preventive medication as necessary to keep her healthy. Spay or Neuter One of the best things you can do for your French Bulldog is to have her spayed neutered for males. In females, this means we surgically remove the ovaries and usually the uterus, and in males, it means we surgically remove the testicles. Spaying or neutering decreases the likelihood of certain types of cancers and eliminates the possibility of your pet becoming pregnant or fathering unwanted puppies. Performing this surgery also gives us a chance, while your pet is under anesthesia, to identify and address some of the diseases your dog is likely to develop. For example, if your pet needs hip X-rays or a puppy tooth extracted, this would be a good time. This is convenient for you and easy for your friend. Routine blood testing prior to surgery also helps us to identify and take precautions for common problems that increase anesthetic or surgical risk. The disease is caused when the jelly-like cushion between one or more vertebrae slips or ruptures, causing the disc to press on the spinal cord. If your dog is suddenly unable or unwilling to jump up, go up stairs, is reluctant to move around, has a hunched back, cries out, or refuses to eat or go potty, he is likely in severe pain. He may even drag his back feet or be suddenly paralyzed and unable to get up or use his back legs. Call us or an emergency clinic immediately! For less severe cases, rest and medication may resolve the problem. As with so many other diseases, weight control helps to prevent this problem. Spinal Deformities French Bulldogs are more likely than other canines to be born with spinal deformities a condition called hemivertebrae , which may lead to spinal cord damage, instability, or disability. Inflammatory Bowel Disease Inflammatory Bowel Disease or IBD is an immune system disorder common in French Bulldogs in which the intestinal lining becomes overrun with immune system cells called lymphocytes and plasmacytes. Chronic vomiting or diarrhea is common or it may flare up suddenly and then improve again for a time. Stress, diet change, or intestinal parasites may make it worse. If your friend has diarrhea or digestive upsets that are not explained by the more common reasons, diagnostic tests, which may include intestinal biopsy, will be needed. Lifetime medications and special diets are usually required to keep this bellyache under control. Eye Problems Not many things have as dramatic an impact on your dog's quality of life as the proper functioning of his eyes. Unfortunately, French Bulldogs can inherit or develop a number of different eye conditions, some of which may cause blindness if not treated right away, and most of which can be extremely painful! We will evaluate his eyes at every examination to look for any signs of concern. Cataracts are a common cause of blindness in older French Bulldogs. Many dogs adjust well to losing their vision and get along just fine. Surgery to remove cataracts and restore sight may also be an option. Distichiasis is a condition caused by extra hairs that grow inside of the eyelid and rub on the surface of the eye. This is one of the most commonly inherited diseases in dogs, and your French Bulldog is more likely than other dogs to develop this painful condition. If untreated, these abnormal hairs can cause corneal ulcers and chronic eye pain. Several treatment options are available, and the prognosis is good once the hairs have been permanently removed. Entropion is a condition where the eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes to rub against the cornea surface of the eyeball. This is an extremely irritating and painful condition that can ultimately lead to blindness. It can happen in any dog breed; however, your French Bulldog is especially at risk for this heritable disorder. Surgical correction is usually successful if performed early. Because your Frenchie has eyeballs that naturally protrude, he is more vulnerable to eye injuries. Scrapes or punctures to the cornea the protective covering on the eyeball are the most common injuries. Not only do they hurt, they can become infected and affect his vision. Call us at right away if he has any problems with his eyes. A damaged cornea is painful and should be treated immediately. Medication and sometimes surgery is required. Allergies In humans, an allergy to pollen, mold, or dust makes people sneeze and their eyes itch. In dogs, rather than sneeze, allergies make their skin itchy. Commonly, the feet, belly, folds of the skin, and ears are most affected. Symptoms typically start between the ages of one and three and can get worse every year. Licking the paws, rubbing the face, and frequent ear infections are the most common signs. The good news is that there are many treatment options available for this condition. Bleeding Disorders There are several types of inherited bleeding disorders which occur in dogs. They range in severity from very mild to very severe. Many times a pet seems normal until a serious injury occurs or surgery is performed, and then severe bleeding can result. Knee Problems Sometimes your French Bulldog's kneecap patella may slip out of place called patellar luxation. You might notice that he runs along and suddenly picks up a back leg and skips or hops for a few strides. If the problem is mild and involves only one leg, your friend may not require much treatment beyond arthritis medication. When symptoms are severe, surgery may be needed to realign the kneecap to keep it from popping out of place. Hip and Elbow Dysplasia Both hips and elbows are at risk for dysplasia, an inherited disease that causes the joints to develop improperly and results in arthritis. Stiffness in your French Bulldog's elbows or hips may become a problem for him, especially as he matures. You may notice that he begins to show lameness in his legs or has difficulty getting up from lying down. We can treat the arthritis—the sooner the better—to minimize discomfort and pain. Surgery is sometimes a good option in severe and life-limiting cases. Keep in mind that overweight dogs may develop arthritis years earlier than those of normal weight, causing undue pain and suffering! Respiratory Distress Syndrome This disease, also known as brachycephalic syndrome, affects dogs with a short nose, like your French Bulldog. As a consequence, the soft palate the soft part at the back of the roof of the mouth , is too long and hangs down into the airway. The nostrils are often too small, and sometimes the trachea, or windpipe, is narrow and undersized. All of these things lead to a narrow and obstructed airway. Many of these dogs can barely breathe! Watch for exercise intolerance, loud breathing, coughing, bluish gums, or fainting. With his short nose, he is also more likely to develop other problems, such as flatulence from excessive air intake, pneumonia from aspirating food, or heat stroke. In severe cases, surgical correction may be recommended. Bladder or Kidney Stones There are a few different types of stones that can form in the kidney or in the bladder, and French Bulldogs are more likely to develop them than other breeds. Call us immediately! Degenerative Myelopathy Degenerative Myelopathy is a neurologic condition, similar to ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease in people, that causes weakness and poor nerve function in the hind legs. It affects French Bulldogs more frequently than other breeds. If your dog has this disease, he will become increasingly weak and disabled in the hind legs and will eventually suffer from paralysis in his hindquarters, along with incontinence. Rehabilitation, exercise, acupuncture , and dietary supplements can be helpful, but there is no cure. A genetic test is available to determine whether your dog is at risk for this heritable disease. Mange Demodex is a microscopic mite that lives in the hair follicles of dogs. All dogs have them. In mild cases, pet owners may notice a few dry, irritated, hairless lesions. These often occur on the face or feet and may or may not be itchy. Secondary skin infections may occur. Prompt veterinary care is important to keep the disease from getting out of hand. Many pets seem to outgrow the problem, while others require lifelong management. Skin Infections Your French Bulldog is prone to a form of skin infection called lip-fold pyoderma, which occurs because the folds of skin along the lower jaw are usually moist. Bacteria and yeast can readily gain a foothold and cause a reddened, smelly area that is uncomfortable for your dog. We will examine him for this problem, but let us know if you see signs. When symptoms are severe, the excess skin folds can be surgically removed. Taking Care of Your French Bulldog at Home Much of what you can do to keep your dog happy and healthy is common sense, just like it is for people. Be sure to adhere to the schedule of examinations and vaccinations that we recommend for her. Another very important step in caring for your pet is signing up for pet health insurance. There will certainly be medical tests and procedures she will need throughout her life and pet health insurance will help you cover those costs. Routine Care, Diet, and Exercise Build her routine care into your schedule to help your Frenchie live longer, stay healthier, and be happier during her lifetime. We cannot overemphasize the importance of a proper diet and exercise routine. Supervise your pet as you would a toddler. Keep doors closed, pick up after yourself, and block off rooms as necessary. She has low grooming needs. Brush her coat as needed, at least weekly. Clean her ears weekly, even as a puppy. Check her facial wrinkles and eyes often. Her droopy skin and eyes can collect debris. She is well suited for apartment living; she will need a daily walk and regular inside play. She can be sensitive to warm temperatures; avoid any prolonged exposure and be very alert to the signs of heat stress. Feed a high-quality diet appropriate for her age. What to Watch For Any abnormal symptom could be a sign of serious disease, or it could just be a minor or temporary problem. The important thing is to be able to tell when to seek veterinary help, and how urgently. Many diseases cause dogs to have a characteristic combination of symptoms, which together can be a clear signal that your French Bulldog needs help.

For the complete list please see our German Shepherd reference guide page. The price for a German Shepherd puppy can vary greatly depending on the breeder. The most important thing is to make sure you are buying from a reputable breeder. Prices for German Shepherd puppies vary for different reasons. If the dog is from show lines, then expect to pay more. For example, if healthy parents can produce a litter of 12 or 13 pups, they may only want to keep the top 3 or 4 to be sold as pets and will not take care of any problems with other pups born in the same litter. Breeders of this type of dog generally have an active presence on social media sites and may be more open to selling their pups online than someone who breeds other types of dogs. Before buying your new puppy you should set up an interview with the breeder. You will want to prepare for this by making a list of questions that you can go over during the interview process. Here are some examples: Will my dog come with full AKC registration? If you are buying a puppy for competition, ask what titles the parents have earned. Are both the mother and father on-site? If not, where are they? How old is your oldest dog that you breed with? What vaccinations will my pup already have done? This is an indication that they are taking care of their animals even after selling them. Ask how often they worm the pups to prevent parasites. Seeing where the puppies are born and how they are being raised can give you a good indication of whether or not this is a responsible breeder. When buying a German Shepherd puppy, make sure you buy from a reputable breeder. You should be able to see where the puppies are born and meet both parents at least once before making your purchase. The most important thing is to ask lots of questions. Questions to Ask Ask for References from Your German Shepherd Breeder in Montana Most responsible breeders will have no problem giving you references from people who have purchased puppies from them in the past. These references can be a valuable resource in helping to decide if a breeder is right for you. If the breeder balks at this request or seems hesitant to provide references, it is probably best to move on. References will be able to tell you whether or not they have witnessed the breeder interacting kindly with their animals and if they seem to be knowledgeable about dog breeding. If you want a healthy puppy, you need to find a good breeder and let them prove themselves. Good luck! Responsible breeders will be more than happy to put you in touch with people who have purchased puppies from them in the past. References can be a valuable resource in helping to decide if a breeder is right for you. Past customers will be able to give you a firsthand account of their experience with the breeder, from communication to quality of puppies. They can also tell you if the breeder was available for questions and support after purchase. Be sure to ask the following questions: How were your interactions with the breeder? Was the breeder available for questions and support after purchase? Are the puppies healthy and have they had all their shots? Was the breeding program healthy and responsible? What kind of temperament do the puppies have? How much did you pay for your puppy? One of the best ways to judge the quality of a breeder is by their relationship with their veterinarian. A good breeder will have a veterinarian that they work closely with and trust implicitly. The veterinarian will be able to provide a health certificate for each puppy, verifying that they have been vaccinated and are in good health. They will also be able to screen for genetic disorders. If your breeder does not have a good relationship with their veterinarian, it is probably best to move on. Do Your Homework Before you purchase a puppy, do some research on the breed. This will help you determine if the breeder you are considering is responsible and breeding healthy dogs. A responsible breeder will welcome questions and should be able to provide you with references. They should also have a good relationship with their veterinarian. If the breeder you are considering does not meet these criteria, it is probably best to move on. The breeder does not health screen their dogs for genetic disorders. They do not have a good relationship with their veterinarian. They are not willing to provide references. The puppies do not have health certificates or vaccination records. If you see any of these signs, it is probably best to move on. When looking for a German Shepherd Dog Breeder in Montana, be sure to ask the right questions and look for the signs of a responsible breeder. All reputable breeders will screen their dogs for genetic disorders and have a good relationship with their veterinarian. The puppies should also have health certificates and vaccination records. Health problems can be costly and time-consuming to treat. It is best to avoid breeders that do not health screen their dogs. If a breeder balks at this request, it is probably best to move on. Be sure to ask the Montana breeder about the temperament of the puppies. Puppies like to chew and dig, so remove anything that can potentially harm them from your home. Check all of the baseboards and electrical cords in your home for chewing damage. Be sure to provide lots of toys and entertainment for your puppy. Doing so will help keep them busy and prevent them from causing any damage around the house. Another thing you should do before getting a German Shepherd Puppy is set up an appointment with their veterinarian. You will need this information when you purchase their health certificate, which verifies they have been vaccinated and are in good health. There are a few things you can do to make the process easier. Be consistent with your commands. Take your puppy out frequently, especially after meals and naps. Reward them for going potty outside. Use a crate to house train your puppy. It will take some time and patience, but eventually your puppy will learn where to go potty. When bringing home a new German Shepherd Puppy, be sure to prepare your home and set up an appointment with their veterinarian. Also, be prepared to potty train your new puppy. With enough time and effort, they will eventually potty train. I love animals and love helping people adopt a pet. It all started when attending Missouri State University and I began volunteering at an animal shelter. Puppy pads Create a Schedule German Shepherd pups would do well with a schedule. Dogs live with a routine, and they are easy to train by having one. For this reason, make a schedule of the things you need to do regularly. Eventually, your pup will learn the routine events and will make itself adept at them. It will help you prepare for your pet, especially in the first few days of living together. As you allow your pet to adjust, do your best to create a stress-free environment for it. Always supervise it as it familiarizes itself with its new home. Still, it would be best to prepare yourself for loud noises when your pet is asleep. Moderate Training German Shepherds are highly trainable. It simply means they respond well, especially to positive reinforcement. Squeaky Toys Out of all toys, your pet will love the squeaky ones. For this reason, prepare for a lot of loud squeaks every time your pet is active. Thus, in picking your pet, you may want to consider getting it from the best. Tells you any health problems A good breeder will tell you any significant health problems in any of the dogs he or she bred. Asks more questions than you A good breeder would ask for more items from you than you would for him or her. Not in a hurry to send off A good breeder is not in a hurry to send the puppies off and get your money. He or she will even show you other breeders and veterinarians caring for their dogs. Requires expectations on both sides A good breeder will create a contract that offers not only what he or she expects from you. More than that, he or she will also show what you can expect from him or her. Sends puppies properly A good breeder will never send a puppy in a compartment and without any responsible person to go with it. Works only with one or two breeds A good breeder works only with a single or a couple of species. Shows breeding experience A good breeder shows her dogs in recognized confirmation shows. He or she will also join his or her breed in other breed-related performance events. Other states.

Breed Title Goldador Puppies Temperament Goldadors are an amazing combination of the intelligence and trainability of the Labrador and the friendly, gentle personality of the Golden Retriever. With their outgoing, friendly character and sweet disposition, Goldadors make excellent family pets around children and other animals as they have a great aptitude for understanding people. In terms of temperament, these beloved pups are highly sociable but not overly boisterous or hyper; they enjoy playing fetch but rest just as happily on your lap or at your feet while you work. Golden Labrador Retriever Puppy Health Considerations Though generally very happy and long-lived — with an average lifespan of around years — our Goldadors for sale are not without their unique health concerns. Like every breed of dog, there are a few conditions you should be aware of before you consider purchasing one of our Golden Labrador Retriever puppies for sale. Understanding the risks allows you to know the signs and prevent small health concerns from turning into big ones. Finding a Golden Labrador puppy for sale from a reputable breeder can also dramatically — although, not eliminate — the risk of your dog developing some of these conditions. Depending on the climate they live in, Goldadors may need regular baths — however omitting shampoo once or twice a year will ensure their coat retains its natural oils. Finally it is recommended to check the ears regularly and trim nails as needed. Adopted Golden Labrador Retriever Puppies. Tomato leaves stem or unripe fruit Alcohol, beer, wine or liquor Grapes or raisins Golden Retriever Crossed with Labrador Exercise Requirements The Lab Golden Retriever Mix has an active temperament so they might get destructive if they get bored. It is recommended to exercise them at least 2 hours daily. Getting them to do physical activities every day will help keep him happy and healthy. Here are some outdoor activities that you can try with your Golden Retriever Lab Mix: Hiking: It is a great way to turn your daily walk more challenging and exciting for your dog. Swimming: Utilize your private pool and do a swimming exercise with your dog companion. Swimming does not only serve as an exercise activity to yourself and to your companion dog, but it is also a great bonding experience. It also provides relief from the heat during the summer months. Make sure you supervise your dog all the time while doing this activity. Dock Diving: This is a fun sports activity to enjoy with your dog. All you have to do is throw a floating toy and encourage your dog to jump and swim out to retrieve it. If you and your Golden Retriever Lab Mix want to upgrade the challenge, you can try joining a Dock Diving Club and compete with other dogs. Play Fetch: This is a classic outdoor game that is great to do in summer. Challenge your dog by putting a twist to the activity, you can either use a Frisbee or a tennis racquet to make the object travel farther for your Golden Labrador to retrieve and return back to you. However, you should not be working them too much because when it comes to recovering objects, both parent breeds of Golden Retriever Lab Mix can be overly enthusiastic. However, even though they are intelligent dogs and has a friendly nature, you still need to put time and effort to train them better. Both parent breeds were bred to carry things. The best way to teach your Goldador not to bark is to socialize them frequently with strangers. Use Positive Reinforcement The Labrador crossed with Golden Retriever is a sensitive type of dog, so training them using positive reinforcement will be very helpful. Make sure to avoid negative punishment-based training since this hybrid dog may end up fearing you rather than respecting you as their leader. Make it a regular routine to reward your puppy whenever they do something right. Training your Goldador consistently in a positive method will give you pet companions that are obedient and good-natured. Do Mental Exercise The Golden Retriever mixed with Lab is an intelligent dog, and they need stimulating mental activities to avoid developing any aggressive behaviors, such as nuisance barking and chewing. Without proper mental exercise, Goldador puppies will grow into a passive, timid and uninspired dog. Labrador Golden Retriever Mix and Families Despite its large size, the Labrador mixed with Golden Retriever is a great family dog because of its easy-going personality. It is extremely friendly and affectionate. The Goldador is the type of dog that goes well in a loving and active family — one that considers him as a family member. The Golden Labradors cherish the company with children. They are naturally gentle, but they can play tirelessly as long as your kids can keep up. However, due to their sheer size, supervision is still needed around toddlers and infants. The Goldadors makes an excellent therapy and companion dog. Because of their affectionate nature, they generally do well when given lots of attention and affection. These hybrid dogs love to be with people, and hence it is tough for them to cope with solitude. So give love lots of love and affection to your Goldador Lab Retriever Mix and expect that it will shower you back with love. Life Span Did You Know? The Golden Labrador is a designer dog breed that originated in the United States. They are a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Labrador Retriever. The goal was to combine these two highly popular breeds to create a dog that exhibits the best traits from both of them. A mixed dog breed can take after one parent breed more than the other or any combination of traits from the parent breeds. This can result in some variation among individual puppies. But, overall, a Golden Labrador is friendly, intelligent, energetic, and affectionate. Although this mixed breed is not recognized by the American Kennel Club, they are recognized by other notable organizations like the American Canine Hybrid Club and more. This large designer breed is characterized by their energetic personality and friendly disposition. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are open, friendly, and affectionate, so you can expect the same in your Golden Labrador puppy. They are very playful and get along fabulously with children, other dogs, and other pets. They may be alert enough to be a good watchdog, but they do not make good guard dogs. They are instinctually more interested in making new friends and getting attention than they are with anything else. They can have a slight prey drive, but most of the time, they are just curious and interested in playing and making friends. The Golden Labrador is a moderately adaptable dog breed. Their large size and energy tend to make them a better fit for larger homes with room to run. They can adapt well to apartment living as long as they are given enough exercise and mental stimulation. But, small spaces can be a challenge because they are large dogs that are so playful and energetic. Golden Labradors do well in just about any climate. As with most dog breeds, they are sensitive to heat and extreme cold. Because they love their families, thrive on attention, and get bored easily, they do not like to be left alone for long periods of time. As a mixed breed, a Golden Labrador can inherit the potential health conditions of one or both of the parent breeds. Although the Golden Labrador is a relatively healthy dog breed, there are some potential health conditions to be aware of. These include eye problems like progressive retinal atrophy and joint issues common to large dogs like patellar luxation and hip dysplasia. Like their parent breeds, the Golden Labrador can be prone to weight gain, which does put them at risk of diabetes later in life. Reputable breeders will screen their stock to ensure genetic conditions are not being passed on to puppies. Regular vet visits, proper nutrition, and sufficient exercise can help keep your dog healthy and reduce preventable diseases. Both of the parent breeds in this cross are highly intelligent and highly trainable, so the Golden Labrador should be no different. Eager to please their owners, these dogs pick up on things quickly and respond best to positive training methods focused on praise and reward. This dog breed, like both of the parent breeds, is a great fit for owners of all experience levels, including first-time dog owners. Their high energy can sometimes be a challenge, so you may want to consider puppy training and obedience classes. This designer dog breed may be called a Golden Labrador, but they can show up in many colors. A cream, yellow, or golden coat may be the most common, but a Golden Labrador can also have a black, red, or brown coat. It tends to be a dense double coat that is short or medium in length. This dog breed will shed moderately year-round with heavier shedding sessions twice a year as the seasons change. During seasonal changes, you may want to increase to daily brushing. Not only will this make your dog more comfortable, but it will also decrease the amount of loose fur that ends up around your house. In addition to coat care, you will also need to handle nail, ear, and dental care for your Golden Labrador. Floppy ears tend to trap more dirt, moisture, and debris, which makes them more prone to developing ear infections than ears that stick straight up. Unfortunately, this is often overlooked, which is why gum disease is one of the most common health issues in dogs. Beyond that, you can use vet-approved dental hygiene chews and treats and even a specially-formulated dental care diet to supplement your efforts. Getting them used to it early and keeping it a positive experience can make grooming a lot easier as your puppy grows into a big dog! Plus, it can become a bonding experience that your dog looks forward to. Golden Labradors are high-energy dogs. Daily walks, playtime, and some extra activity are generally enough for this dog to stay happy and healthy. But, they will probably tire out before you do! Their friendly nature makes the Golden Labrador a great fit for trips to the dog park. Try teaching your dog how to play frisbee. With their retriever background, it could become one of their favorite activities. You can also train your Golden Labrador for several dog sports like agility, dock diving, obedience, and more. A fully-grown Golden Labrador usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs between pounds. A Golden Labrador generally lives years. Although Golden Labrador is the most popular name for this designer dog breed, they are also sometimes referred to as a Goldador or a Goldador Retriever. Featured Golden Labrador Article.

People are often surprised to hear the very same noise come out of their family pet. The sound of dogs howling is different. Distinctive and rather primeval. So why do some dogs do it? And not others. Which dogs howl? Some breeds of dog are more likely to howl than others. Huskies and hounds for example. And within a breed there will be differences too. Labradors are not the breed most likely to howl, but some do. I have two Labradors that howl. When they do howl is when they hear a siren. Why do dogs howl at sirens? I have a wonderful team of working gun dogs, Spaniels and Labrador Retrievers. We live in a small village and the sound of sirens is unusual. But on the occasions when an ambulance or fire engine passes through the village with a siren blaring, my dogs all join in. They sound, for all the world, like a pack of wolves. It starts with one of the spaniels — she points her little face to the skies and makes her mouth into an O and begins to wail. Ah — ooooooooh, ooo-oooooooh! Quite softly at first, then building to a crescendo. One by one, each of the dogs adds her voice to the others until the siren has long gone or until I have shouted at them to be quiet! I find it spine tingling and actually quite beautiful… but the neighbours may feel differently so I do ask them to stop! My elderly Lab occasionally howls in her sleep, and when she does, all the other dogs join in in exactly the same way. The theory is, that the dog recognises the siren as a signal from other dogs not known to him. Perhaps a statement of their presence. And that the dog that howls at sirens is responding with a statement of his own. Why does my dog howl when I leave him? Some dogs howl whenever they are left. It is likely that dogs that do this are howling to attempt to recall family members. Or to let them know that they have been abandoned. Like us, most dogs are highly social and derive their sense of security from being part of a family group. Being isolated makes some dogs feel insecure and worried. And unlike you or I, when his family leaves the house, your dog has absolutely no way of knowing for sure, that they are ever coming back. Howling dog and musical instruments! At one point, aged about thirteen, I thought it would be particularly cool if I learned to play the clarinet. The effect of the instrument on my dog was electric. He would throw his head back and sing right along with me, the howls becoming more and more drawn out and enthusiastic as I progressed. Why do dogs howl to music? There are plenty of YouTube videos of dogs doing the same thing as my Golden Retriever, but why do they do it? Was my mother right — was my dog howling because his ears hurt, or is there some other reason? What does it mean when a dog howls? Studies in wolves have shown that howls can encode individual and group identities. In other words, dogs can recognise the howls of dogs that they know, and can tell when a howl, is the howl of a strange dog or dogs. DNA tests show us that dogs are descended from wolves, they are in fact, the same species. And howling is likely to be an instinctive part of that genetic inheritance. The original purpose of this powerful sound is likely to be found in protecting or identifying territorial boundaries, and in keeping the family group safely together. Howling carries a long way outdoors. My little spaniel throws her head back when she howls because it helps to project the sound even further. There is no reason to think that your dog is doing it for any other purpose. Howling puppies and worried dogs Howling is probably also a good way of keeping members of the group in contact. Most new puppies will howl at times if left entirely alone. Many domestic dogs continue to show juvenile traits throughout their lives. Group cohesion — maintaining contact and keeping the dog family together as a unit. The first purpose is what makes dogs howl at sirens and musical instruments. The second purpose is what makes dogs howl when they are left alone. How to stop your dog howling Howling at triggers like sirens and instruments is usually short lived. The dog thinks that the trigger is a territorial cry and is responding with one of his own. You may be able to cut the howling short by teaching your dog to be quiet at a signal from you. You can find out more about that in our article on separation anxiety. How easy or difficult this is to teach, depends on how readily your dog howls naturally. If you know that sirens make your dog howl for example, then all you need is a recording of a siren. Immediately after the cue play your siren recording. And as soon as your dog howls, give him a brilliant reward. Such as a nice lump of juicy chicken. Rinse and repeat, gradually leaving a gap between the cue and the recording, until the dog will begin to howl when he hears the cue, before you play the siren. The tricky part is initiating the howl in the first place. How about you? Does your dog howl? Is dog howling a problem for you or dog you quite like the sound. Let us know what starts your dog howling in the comments box below. Howling is one of those dog behaviors that sparks curiosity and questions. Do all dogs howl? Why do dogs howl when left alone? Can Dogs Howl Like Wolves? Dogs howl just like wolves because they are direct descendants of the sharp-eyed hunters. Pack members must sometimes separate from each other to scout for food or hunt. Howling, which carries much farther than a bark, is how they keep track of other pack members and communicate over great distances. With a howl they can draw the pack together after a successful hunt, or alert far off wolves to approaching danger. Some reasons your dog howls are no cause for concern, including: Sounding the alarm about approaching danger Communicating with another dog Communicating with you Responding to a distant siren or other high-pitched noise In these instances, the howls are situational, short-lived, and usually nothing to worry about. The veterinarian will treat the injury or check your dog for any underlying health issues—and related pain—that could be prompting her howling. Separation anxiety howling will occur primarily when your dog is alone —in another room, in the yard, or in the house by herself. Also, these symptoms warrant a trip to the veterinarian to rule out other causes. In challenging cases, some people seek help from a dog behavior specialist with expertise in anxiety. The key to alleviating attention-seeking howling is to ignore her the instant she starts vocalizing. Avoid scolding or yelling, which is always counterproductive in dog training. Instead, ignore your dog completely. This only reinforces her use of howling as a form of communication. When your dog is peaceful and quiet give her a treat once in a while, targeting the positive reinforcement to a problem time of day, if she has one. Why Do Dogs Howl at Sirens? Your dog is demonstrating her ancient roots when she howls at the siren of a passing ambulance, police car, or fire truck, or bays at a distant train whistle. Sirens and whistles are high-pitched noises that resemble the sound a pack member—or rival pack member—might make from a distance. Come find me! If your dog is a howler, you may notice she howls most often at night. The simple explanation for this is there are fewer sounds in her immediate environment at night. The hubbub of the day subsides and there are fewer cars, buses, and trucks on nearby roads. For many dogs, the howling hour is actually early morning. In the ancient legends of many early civilizations, dog howling is associated with impending death or the gathering of souls to the afterworld. In Norse mythology, for example, dogs were thought to howl when they sensed the approach of Freyja, the goddess of death along with love, fertility, and battle , who rode through the heavens in a soul-collecting chariot pulled by two giant cats. What Dog Breeds Howl? All dog breeds howl, but certain breed types tend to howl more than others. You may have figured that out already based on the list above. Scent hounds, for example, are often howlers because they evolved to alert the rest of the pack and hunters when they were closing in on their quarry. Working dogs with arctic roots also tend to howl to perceived pack members in the distance. If your dog howls often, her instinctive call turns into a quality of life issue for you and your neighbors. Thankfully, you can get to the root of the problem and take steps to minimize her plaintive cries, but not extinguish them. The occasional howl is a captivating sound—mournful and strangely beautiful—with many possible meanings and causes, and ancient beginnings to marvel over. Shop All Cat Food Dogs make a variety of sounds to express different wants, needs and feelings, but a dog's howl, in particular, is unmistakable. The reason for his howling, on the other hand, is typically less clear. So why exactly does a dog howl? We've got the lowdown. Why Do Dogs Howl? Howling is a deeply ingrained behavior. A dog's howl, similar to a wolf's, is a loud, drawn-out, mournful cry. It differs from a bark, which is typically brief and explosive. A dog may howl for some of the same reasons wolves do. However, as dogs have evolved and grown closer to humans, some of their reasons for howling may have also evolved. Here are several reasons why your dog might howl: To signal to the pack: Like wolves, dogs howl to help members of the pack find their way back home, says Dogster. This is not only true of wild dogs who run in actual packs, but also domestic dogs who view their human family and caretakers as their pack. This may explain why your pooch howls when you or another family member has been away from home for a while. To ward off predators and announce their territory: Dogs use howling to announce to rival dogs and potential threats that territory belongs to them and to keep away. This might be why one howling dog can trigger every dog in the neighborhood to start howling — they're all sounding off to let each other know who occupies which territory. As a response to noise: Your dog may howl in response to a nearby siren, a musical instrument, a sound on the television or your own singing. While this may mean he's protesting because he dislikes the noise, it could just as easily mean he likes it and wants to join in! To express emotional pain: Dogs may howl to express fear, anxiety or sadness, and to signal their desire for comfort, says Rover. Dogs with separation anxiety often howl when their caretakers leave them alone. To express physical pain: Likewise, dogs in physical pain or discomfort may howl to let their caretakers know they need attention. If the reason for your dog's howling is unclear, it's a good idea to check him out for signs of dog pain. If he continues howling and you can't figure out why, reach out to your veterinarian. You'll also probably notice that your dog likes to tilt his head to the sky to let out this vocalization. There are a variety of reasons why dogs will tilt their heads , but there is little information on why dogs might "howl at the moon. Others speculate that it allows the sound waves to travel further, allowing more dogs or creatures know they are there. Dogs Most Likely to Howl While howling is common among all dogs, some breeds are more likely to howl than others, says Dogster. Those more likely to howl include several hound breeds, including dachshunds , beagles , basset hounds and bloodhounds , as well as huskies , Alaskan malamutes and American Eskimo dogs. Dogs may also howl more as they get older — this is especially true of senior dogs who become confused due to dementia or loss of vision or hearing, says Rover. Training a Dog Not to Howl Because dogs might howl for a number of reasons, training them to not howl varies. In cases of pain or direct result of a noise, the howling is probably infrequent enough that training is not necessary. But if your dog is great at inciting the rest of the neighborhood into a howling chorus at night, you may want to train them. Because howling is a behavioral trait, it may take more time to teach them to stop howling. Never discipline a dog that howls because dogs rarely understand why they are in trouble. Instead, reward his good behavior — in this case, when he stops howling give him lots of love or the occasional treat. You can also redirect his attention to something more productive when he begins to howl. So, why do dogs howl? It turns out there are a plethora of reasons. One thing seems certain, though: When your pup howls, it often simply means he wants your attention! Contributor Bio Jean Marie Bauhaus Jean Marie Bauhaus is a pet parent, pet blogger and novelist from Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she usually writes under the supervision of a lapful of furbabies. Twitter There are generally six types of dog sounds the use in order to vocally communicate with humans or with other canines. Most noises dogs make indicate some form of frustration, like when a dog whines to go outside. Barking Why do dogs bark? If you know how to tell between different kinds of dog barks, you can easily understand why your dog is so vocal in the first place! The bark of a distressed dog, such as a dog who suffers from isolation or separation distress or anxiety, is high-pitched and repetitive; getting higher in pitch as the dog becomes more upset. Boredom barking tends to be more of a repetitive monotone. Alert bark is likely to be a sharp, staccato sound; alarm barking adds a note of intensity to the alert. At least, the dog thinks so. Suspicious barks are usually low in tone, and slow, while fearful barking is often low but faster. Play barking just sounds. If you have any doubt — look to see what the dog is doing. Baying Baying is deep-throated, prolonged barking, most often heard when a dog is in pursuit of prey, but also sometimes offered by a dog who is challenging an intruder. The scent hounds are notorious for their melodic baying voices. Some people interpret dog baying a long moaning sound. If instead of a hostile growl, your dog is grumbling lowly, he may be perfectly happy! Dogs also growl in play. Some dogs also growl in pleasure. Howling Howling is often triggered by a high-pitched sound; many dogs howl at the sound of fire and police sirens. Two of my own dogs howl when our donkey brays. Some dog owners have taught their dogs to howl on cue, such as the owner howling. Howling is generally considered to be communication between pack members: perhaps to locate another pack member, or to call the pack for hunting. Some dogs howl when they are significantly distressed — again, a common symptom of isolation and separation distress. This may happen when dogs play, if one dog bites the other dog too hard. The other dog or human is expected to react positively to the communication. Whimpers can also indicate strong excitement such as when an owner returns at the end of a long workday. Excitement whimpering is often accompanied by licking, jumping, and barking. Dog whimpering is softer and less intense than whining. Puppy crying sounds are just little whimpers. Whining Dog whining sounds are high-pitched vocalizations, often produced nasally with the mouth closed. A dog may whine when it wants something, needs or wants to go outside, feels frustrated by leash restraint, is separated from a valued companion human or otherwise , or just wants attention. It is usually an indication of some increased level of stress for the dog. Most often the dog crying sound is an exaggerated whine or whimper. Speaking Words? Some dogs are capable of replicating human speech sounds. When these sounds are selectively reinforced, dogs can appear to be speaking human words, sometimes even sentences. We will explain all the differences in Mini Goldendoodle puppies and how they are bred below. We raise all versions of the mini goldendoodle breed. F1 Mini Goldendoodle Pups. A F1 puppy is also known as a First Generation puppy. The puppies mother is a Golden Retriever and the pups dad is a Mini Poodle. This version of mini goldendoodle usually has soft wavy or curly puppy fur. They will shed until they lose their puppy fur, after shedding they will shed a lot less, but will shed. This version is partially hypoallergenic and usually requires low maintenance. F1 mini goldendoodles usually need to be groomed every 6 months along with daily brushing to keep their curly hair from matting and getting tangled. The dogs usually grow up having great temperaments similar to golden retrievers. They usually get about inches high at the shoulder and range in weight from pounds. F1b Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1b is known as a second-generation mini goldendoodle with the pups mother being already an F1 Goldendoodle and the pups dad being a mini poodle also. So the difference between F1 and F1b is that the mom is not a golden retriever but an actual F1 Goldendoodle. They also have very soft curly hair but with almost no shedding. This F1b version is semi-hypoallergenic and a better choice for anyone who has pet allergies. The F1b also should be brushed on a daily basis but will need to be groomed more frequently then a F1. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is recommended to keep their coat in perfect condition. F1b Mini goldendoodles get around 18 to 20 inches tall at the shoulders and range between pounds in weight. F1bb Mini Goldendoodle Pups. An F1bb goldendoodle is also known as a third-generation mini goldendoodle. This mini goldendoodle version has a coat more similar to a poodle than of a golden retriever. This is because the pup is more of a poodle than a retriever. Making it the very best version for anyone with pet allergies. A 6 to 8 week grooming schedule is required to help prevent knots or matting. This version is super intelligent and loving, and usually seems to have more energy than the other versions of Mini goldendoodles. This version is usually smaller in size, weighing around pounds and only getting inches tall at the shoulders. The smaller size makes them a great size for smaller homes and apartments. They should also be happy to answer any questions you have about their breeding program. However, if you have the opportunity to check out the facilities you should do it. Check that the kennels are clean, that they dogs and puppies have access to fresh water and also that there is not a build up of feces or urine. Comfortable living conditions: The breeder should keep their Mini Goldendoodles, Golden Retrievers and Poodles in comfortable living conditions. They should have large, comfortable kennels or dog beds and also have a decent amount of space to exercise and socialize with other dogs. Healthy breeding dogs and puppies: If you get the opportunity to meet the parents of the Mini Goldendoodle litter you are interested in, make sure they are well-tempered and also healthy. Sometimes the mother will be quite protective of her puppies so she may show signs of aggression. If you are purchasing a puppy online and getting it delivered, ask if the breeder would be happy to video call you or send videos of their Mini Goldendoodle puppies and breeding dogs to you. Ask About Socialization Mini Goldendoodle breeders should begin the socialization process before their puppies are sold. The puppies should be exposed to a wide variety of sounds, experiences, people and places so they can adjust to their new homes and adult life. Nevertheless, they should start exposing them to sounds like household appliances, provide mental stimulation with toys and games and also encourage playtime and interactions with their littermates and family. The most common ones are: Lack of registration: If a Mini Goldendoodle breeder cannot provide registration papers or other relevant documentation, it may be a sign that they are not operating a reputable breeding program. Overbreeding: Think twice about purchasing from a Mini Goldendoodle breeder who always has puppies available or offers an excessive amount of dog breeds. This may suggest that the breeder is overly focused on profit instead of the health and wellbeing of their puppies. Lack of health checks: A reputable Mini Goldendoodle breeder will conduct health clearances on their breeding dogs to ensure they are free of genetic health issues that could be passed on. If a breeder cannot provide documentation of these health checks, it may be a sign that they are not prioritizing health. Further Reading.

While some breeders insist that it comes from Germany, while the more common sentiment is that France is its native homeland. No matter its birthplace, the Poodle has become an incredibly popular option as a show dog, even giving rise to three variants: Standard, Miniature, and Toy Poodles. Tibetan Terriers are, in fact, not in the terrier group of dog breeds. Renowned for their affectionate and sensitive temperament, the Tibetan Terrier has been a popular pet since its eventual breeding and sale in the s. The Ttoodle May Have One or Two Coats Depending on their heritage, any given Ttoodle may have a single, lightweight coat, or a much thicker and denser double coat. Some Ttoodles are Hypoallergenic Once again dependent on their individual heritage, a small portion of Ttoodles are virtually free of shedding and produce almost no dander. These highly sought-after mixes are wonderful pets for mild to moderate allergy sufferers, but they can be hard to find and rather expensive to purchase. Whatever genetic factors are at play here, many Ttoodles enjoy the benefits of crossbreeding and are less prone to disease and ill-health than either of their parent breeds. With appropriate training, they seem to be able to fit in just about anywhere — and can be encouraged to enjoy playing with animals and other humans alike. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They tend to form strong bonds with their caretakers and take easily to the gentler interactions with smaller children. It should be noted, however, that they can be quite sensitive to touch; children and teens alike should take caution not to scare them away with rough handling. They do not possess any aggressive hunting instincts in their heritage and often default to gentle skittishness when presented with uncomfortable social situations. Make sure your Tibetan Terrier Poodle Mix has regular access to outdoor playtime and walks and consider teaching them tricks to keep their highly intelligent minds occupied. Many dogs of this breed enjoy agility training, and love to figure out new toys and tricks. Socialize them from an early age, and they will require very little behavioral training as they get older. They generally shed little in comparison to most dog breeds but are prone to uncomfortable hair tangles. Be prepared for your grooming sessions with our favorite brushes for poodles! In rare cases, some of the following conditions may be present: Minor Conditions. Life Span Did You Know? As their name suggests, the Tibetan Terrier originated in Tibet thousands of years ago. These dogs served several purposes in Tibet. Not only were they often kept as mascots, companions, and good luck charms, but Tibetan Terriers were also working dogs. They could often be found working as herding dogs, watchdogs, and for retrieving articles that fell down the sides of mountains. With this elevated status, the dog breed was never sold — they were only gifted by monks. Although they are called a terrier, they are not a member of the Terrier Group. They acquired the terrier name from European travelers to the region who thought they resembled other known terrier breeds. An English doctor who performed a successful operation in Tibet received a Tibetan Terrier as a gift. She is credited with bringing the first dog of the breed to Europe in .From there, the breed gained popularity. Tibetan Terriers are quintessential companion dogs that also happen to be skilled at working as well. They tend to be amiable, affectionate, and friendly. They are sensitive souls that are in-tune with their owners. They also tend to get along well with older children. Due to their watchdog background, they tend to be wary and suspicious of strangers, but are not known to be aggressive or shy towards them. They also have an assertive bark and will let you know when someone is coming onto the property, but they do not tend to bark excessively unless they have been trained into it. This dog breed is highly adaptable. As long as they get enough exercise, they are happy in apartments as well as larger homes with space to run. The Tibetan Terrier also does well in most climates. Their coat is built to keep them warm, so cold is generally not an issue. As with most dogs, they are sensitive to heat and to extreme temperatures. Although they have a working dog background, they are also sensitive companion dogs. Although the Tibetan Terrier is a relatively healthy dog breed, there are some potential health conditions to be aware of. Some of these potential health issues include patellar luxation, hip dysplasia, cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy, and heart murmurs. They may also have allergies to wheat, grains, and dairy. Talking to the breeder about the genetic history of the parents and asking to see relevant health clearances and tests can help allay potential health concerns. This dog breed is moderately trainable. They are highly intelligent and eager to please their owners, but they are also determined and can have a stubborn streak. For the most part, Tibetan Terriers are easy to train and respond best to positive training methods that focus on praise and rewards. A potential stubborn streak could trip up first-time dog owners, but puppy training and obedience classes can help. Tibetan Terriers have a double coat. The undercoat is dense and warm while the topcoat resembles the texture of human hair. These dogs also do not shed like most other dogs. They do have a major shedding event at around nine months old as they transition into their adult coat. Their fur also has a long growth cycle and will continue to grow into a long coat if not trimmed. If you want to keep your Tibetan Terrier in a shorter clip, they will need an occasional trim. If you would rather they keep a longer clip, then they will need professional grooming every months to keep their coat healthy and maintained. Their coat is also prone to tangles, which can lead to painful matting if not cared for properly. Brushing your Tibetan Terrier a few times a week or every day will help keep their fur tangle-free and prevent mats from forming. Finally, proper dental care for dogs can help prevent painful dental disease like gum disease, tooth decay, and tooth loss. The Tibetan Terrier ranges from moderate to high energy. They enjoy daily walks, plenty of time with their owners, and some extra time to run, play, or work. Since they are sturdy little dogs, they may also enjoy hiking with you. Tibetan Terriers also tend to be great candidates for dogs sports like agility, rally, obedience, flyball, tracking, and more. A fully-grown Tibetan Terrier usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. A Tibetan Terrier generally lives years. The Tibetan name for this dog breed is Tsang Apso. A rough translation of this refers to a shaggy, bearded dog from the Tsang province. The Lhasa Apso is considered their smaller cousin. Featured Tibetan Terrier Article. White, black, brindle, blue, brown, gray Suitable for: Temperament: Intelligent, energetic, adaptable If you are thinking about getting one of these dogs for your home but would like to know more about it first, keep reading while we discuss temperament, grooming, health conditions, and more to help you make an informed decision. Dogs that are harder to train will require a bit more patience and practice. Proper exercise, nutrition, and hygiene also play an important role in the lifespan of your pet. More social dogs have a tendency to run up to strangers for pets and scratches, while less social dogs shy away and are more cautious, even potentially aggressive. If you want to breed the dog, you often need to pay more. You may also need to pay to get the dog spayed or neutered, and it will require several vet visits the first few years. Food, treats, toys, and flea medication will be an ongoing expense. While these pups are quite energetic, they make a wonderful choice of breed for someone living in an apartment. They tend to be wary of strangers, so they make great guard dogs but will be friendly with plenty of early socialization. They are extremely intelligent and have plenty of energy, which is both a blessing and a curse since they require constant supervision and attention, or they can become destructive or misbehave. They will also use their considerable intelligence to set up elaborate schemes to get what they want. Are These Dogs Good for Families? As we mentioned earlier, these dogs are extremely friendly and love to be around family members. Adults might find them a little underfoot when they are trying to prepare a meal or clean the house, but they love to play and can keep children entertained for several hours. However, once everyone gets used to each other, the Ttoodle can be quite playful with other dogs and even cats. Brands with real meat like chicken or turkey listed first are better than those with a meat byproduct or corn ingredient. We also recommend looking for omega fats listed in the ingredients to help improve skin and coat. Omega fats can also help with brain and eye development. Probiotics and prebiotics can help build important gut bacteria that can help balance the sensitive digestive system. It will see plenty of activity chasing after family members all day, but we recommend setting aside at least 40 minutes per day to play with your pet. Games that cause your dog to run are the best because they will help your dog burn off energy faster. It will also enjoy games of tug of war if you have the strength. Its Poodle parent is behind only the Border Collie in intelligence, and you can expect the same from your Ttoodle. We recommend holding short training sessions at the same time each day to get your dog into a routine, which will help it stay focused and to learn quicker. The bad news is that it still sheds quite a bit, so you will need to brush it frequently to keep the fur off your furniture and to keep the dog looking its best. We recommend brushing every three or four days, more during the fall and spring shedding seasons.

german shepherd cross puppies for sale near me - Lifespan Sociability As with any purebred dog, getting your hands on a Teacup Poodle can be a long and exhausting process. But taking the time to do your research and vet your sources will ensure your new family member is happy, healthy, and responsibly bred. Teacup Poodles have very similar proportions to their larger brethren, with slightly longer legs and an up-turned tail. Because of their small size and squared-off proportions, many Teacup poodles resemble walking, barking teddy bears. This breed can technically come in any color, though most show standards dictate a solid coat. If you want to know which breeder in your area is the most reliable, one of the best resources to check out is your regional Poodle club. By reaching out to members of local breed-specific organizations, either face-to-face or through social media, you can learn a bit about their experiences with nearby Teacup Poodle breeders. Can You Adopt a Teacup Poodle? However, these chances are very slim. Oftentimes, these organizations keep tabs on local dogs in need and help connect them to compatible owners. But because the Teacup Poodle is so popular right now and because it costs so much to buy in the first place , very few dogs end up in shelters. Watch out for owners trying to resell their Teacup Poodle on social media or on local bulletin boards, as you can never know the health or history of a dog. They are prone to breaking their bones. Their tiny bodies make them susceptible to breaking bones. They are great watchdogs Despite their size, they are loyal and fiesty. They do not shed! They are loving, friendly, cuddly, sweet, and make great companions. If they develop separation anxiety, they can get into mischief. Are These Dogs Good for Families? They are wonderful dogs for older families and older couples because they love to be cuddled and doted upon. Be sure you know exactly how to groom, feed , exercise, and train your new companion before adding a Teacup Poodle to your home. Teacup Poodles have very small mouths and digestive tracts, so choose a dry food with extra-small kibble pieces. Teacup Poodles also have different nutritional requirements than larger Poodles. Outside of taking your Teacup Poodle for walks, the vast majority of their exercise needs will be met indoors. Even small apartments offer plenty of space for this breed to run and play. Some Teacup Poodles even enjoy playing in shallow water. We always recommend supervising your Teacup Poodle when outside, even in fenced areas. If you own a Teacup Poodle, though, adopting this mindset will be doing your pup a major disservice. In fact, the Teacup Poodle is highly intelligent, with many breeders and owners considering them some of the most trainable dogs in existence. With that said, Teacup Poodles can be quite stubborn and resistant to household rules. As with any breed, consistent training and socialization will result in an affectionate, trusting, and overall well-rounded dog. However, their smaller size means that grooming takes far less time than with larger varieties. The Teacup Poodle requires bathing and trimming at least every two months, if not more often. Despite the need for a consistent grooming regimen, Teacup Poodles shed very little fur. Because of their overturned ears, regular ear cleaning is necessary to prevent buildup and infection. Many Teacup Poodles also require daily cleaning around the eyes to wipe away buildup and prevent staining. While some of these concerns can be managed through responsible breeding, there is always a chance with any dog that health conditions will emerge over time. For the Teacup Poodle, common health concerns include: Diabetes. About 2 to 4 puppies Grooming Poodles must be bathed regularly and clipped every six to eight weeks. Clean and check the ears frequently for wax or mites or infection and pull out hairs growing inside the ear canal. The teeth need regular scaling. Since the coat does not shed it needs to be clipped. There are several different types of Poodle clips. The most common for pet owners is an easy-care clip called a "pet clip," "puppy clip" or "lamb clip" where the coat is cut short all over the body. Popular show clips are the English saddle and the Continental clip where the rear half of the body is shaved, bracelets are left around the ankles, and pom-poms are left on the tails and hips. The AKC standard allows for a dog under a year old to be shown in a show style puppy clip which has special requirements such as a pom-pom on the end of the tail. Other clip styles are the modified continental clip, town and country clip, kennel or utility clip, summer clip, and the Miami of bikini clip. Poodles shed little to no hair and are good for allergy sufferers. Origin The Poodle has been known throughout Western Europe for at least years and is depicted in 15th century paintings and in bas-reliefs from the 1st century. France has taken a claim on the origin, but the AKC gives the honor to Germany, where they say it was used as a water retrieval dog. Other claims have been Denmark or the ancient Piedmont. What is certain is that the dog was a descendant of the now-extinct French Water Dog, the Barbet and possibly the Hungarian Water Hound. The name "Poodle" most likely came out of the German word "Pudel," which means "one who plays in water. They would leave hair on the leg joints to protect them from extreme cold and sharp reeds. The hunters in Germany and France used the Poodle as a gundog and as a retriever of waterfowl and to sniff out truffles laying underground in the woods. The French started using the breed as a circus performer because of the dog's high intelligence and trainability. The breed became very popular in France, which led to the common name "French Poodle," but the French people actually called the breed the "Caniche," meaning "duck dog. In the 18th century smaller poodles became popular with royal people. The three official sizes are the Toy, Miniature and Standard Poodle. They are considered one breed and are judged by the same written standard but with different size requirements. Some of the Poodle's talents include: retrieving, agility, watchdog, competitive obedience and performing tricks. Maxidoodle the white Teacup Poodle at 7 years old, weighing 5 pounds 2. Until he was 3, he rode around the house in the pocket of my robe, and now at age 7 and 5lbs he continues to stand on my upturned left hand with his rear in the crook of my arm. I love to kayak the many springs in Florida and Max loves paddling too, riding just behind me on a pad I affix to the top of my kayak, even accompanied me on 4 day river sandbar camping paddle. Max also loves to boss around Tout d'Suite, my 20 black cat, and eat all his cat food. I keep him groomed in the continental cut and he prances like a little prince, on or off the leash. He's very polite and doesn't beg or steal people's food. Max loves to engage me or Tout d'Suite in a lively game of chase. I love my buddy! Penny is 2 years old and weighs 5 pounds 2. She is about 8 inches tall at her shoulder. She is a very happy little dog. Penny is a very healthy girl and enjoys her trips to the vet!! Penny is so good, she always lets me trim her hair and toenails! I think she is a very lucky little dog; she gets lots of love, but also lots of exercise and mental stimulation. Penny is healthy because she is only allowed to eat her dog food , never any people food. I think this has helped to prevent her from being a picky eater, which can be a problem in small dogs!
