Flying in an airplane is just as safe as traveling in a car and possibly less stressful then a long car ride. A lot of people think animals are drugged, put in a box, tossed around with the rest of the baggage or left in hot planes for hours etc. .If this was true then we would never ship our puppies!! After almost 6 years of shipping puppies all over the USA and Canada we have never had one problem besides normal flight delays and that is fairly rare as well. United Pet Safe and Alaska Airlines are the best pet shippers by far. Your puppy will not be stacked on top of suitcases. Airlines have special places for pets so that they will be protected from cargo and luggage. It is temperature controlled and pressurized just like the cabin. Puppies are never drugged. During layovers if there is one the puppies are taken off the plane and placed in a temperature controlled holding room until they can be put on their connecting flight. Shipping pups takes a lot of time and planning. Pups must be taken to the vet just before shipping to get a shipping health certificate. A carry on soft sided dog crate for small puppies and a standard size puppy crate for shipping We make all the shipping arrangements. We search for the shortest available flight preferably with no layovers. We try to make the arrangements 1 week in advance, if possible but sometimes we make them only a couple days in advance. Flight times and numbers are subject to change without notice. If they do, we will call you immediately after the puppy has been put on the flight with the changes and all information you will need to pick up your puppy very rarely does this happen. Payment in full including shipping fees must be received before shipping arrangements can be made. We mostly use the United Pet Safe Program because we have worked with them so much and trust the care they give our puppies. They will provide you with an airway bill number which you will need when you drop off the pet and the person picking up the puppy must also have this number, both the shipper and the person picking up the puppy must have valid ID and it must match the name, address etc on the shipping information give when the reservation was made. First find out exactly where you need to drop off the puppy for cargo shipping. Cargo is different then passenger air flights and different drop off locations in most cases. Reservations, you usually need to call at least 24 hours before you plan to ship, you should have your flight number and all paperwork prepared. If you are late they may not allow your puppy to fly. When your puppy arrives, he may be picked up in the cargo pickup area or, if shipped priority, picked up at the priority parcel office of the airport, which is generally in the baggage claim area. After you pick up your puppy and have returned home, we would ask that you call us to let us know how the puppy is doing. Health Certificates Health certificates dated within 10 days of departure are required for all animals being shipped via cargo. Anything can happen in 10 days. We were somewhat concerned initially when we were considering bringing a toy poodle into our home, due to the size difference between her and our our Chesapeake Bay Retriever. Our vet had warned us against the potential damage that a larger dog could do to a poodle of her size. However, I believe that it depends on the the particular dog. While, Tootsie Mazoo is a large dog with protective instincts, she has never been aggressive to other dogs. In fact I believe her protective instincts are one of the reasons that she would never hurt Bella. I am so glad we did not listen to our vet, because Tootsie and Bella Jewel have been inseparable ever since the two of them were introduced to each other eight years ago. I honestly believe that they are great company to each other when we are at work and unable to be at home with them. Collin S. Happy New Year. Coco has truly changed my family and he is the joy of our day. Even my husband who is a clean freak is always buying new toys and sweaters for Coco which end up all over the house. We go on long walks with Coco as part of our exercise program and we are surprised at how much Coco looks forward to the 2hr walks. All that being said we have come to the conclusion that Coco needs a companion and we would like to find a good playmate for him this year. We are thinking of the brown poodles and I would like the playmate to be male and a toy poodle although Coco is a toy he is a little tall but I would like a smaller toy poodle. Despite there notoriety they are still only a small amount of these dogs in the UK In the UK they have become the most sought-after breed of dog and are one of the most recent and most talked about of all the latest crossbreeds. These dogs are incredibly reactive and aggressive to both humans and dogs and almost any other animals. Aggression: Are XLs aggressive? This Bully dog is not afraid to socialise and meet new people. They are highly tolerant of children and strangers. I would imagine the gene pool in the UK is far smaller than in America. It could be that the writers of these glowing testaments are talking about the behaviour of their dogs and not the breed as a whole. Or they are looking through rose-tinted glasses, or they are lying. May I suggest all of those reasons are probably true? One of my specialities was in all types of aggression. I believe these dogs are over-reactive, stimulated by movement, distrustful of strangers and incredibly strong. I have assessed and been involved in numerous cases that have gone to court many I have assessed or defended in court showed the dog as not inherently aggressive. Unfortunately a number did. I have worked with every breed and crossbreed. I have never refused to assess or work with any type of dog breed over a period of 40 years, owning, handling, assessing and working with tens of thousands of them. Though I have retired now, this breed of dog is one I would totally refuse to work with, simply because of the danger to both humans and other dogs. I believe they are probably the most dangerous breed ever created and the following figures and statistics bear that statement out. Remember these are a new American breed and are particularly new to the UK. I would like to point out that these bully breeds were also bred for dog fighting and two of the main crosses in XL Bullys are the American Bulldog and the American Pitbull Terrier both commonly used. The tracking and protection part is to track and bring a man down. Dog Attacks and Deaths in the UK: Typically, there are less than 3 fatalities a year f In there were four deaths one was a young year-old boy called Jack Lis. However, in there was a massive leap in fatalities 10 people were killed, 6 of them killed by American XL Bullies and the 7th victim was by an American Bulldog. There have been six deaths already this year. One you may have read or heard about was a professional dog walker called Natasha Johnston. .As I was writing this article the Police issued an update saying she was killed by her own dog. Why did the police put the Cane Corso in as a cross when they are often used to create the XL Bully in the first place? The dog was described as a large bulldog-type breed and was believed to be a banned breed. The sixth death was two Rottweillers once again Mastiff Breeds. Conclusion: Think for just a minute about those facts and statistics, The majority of the fatalities including children as young as 17 months were caused by one breed of dog that is new and fairly rare in this country. People are buying them as family pets on the glowing approbation of the breeders in America. The majority were psychologically and temperamentally sound. I actually felt that the Dangerous Dogs Act was flawed from the outset and despite tinkering it is still unfit for purpose. .Genetics is just one part of the equation. Having said that, I believe what they have done with the American XL Bully is to create a dog that is so dangerous that the general public should never be allowed to breed or own one. For once in my life I believe that something drastic must be done to curb this ultra-aggressive and hyper-reactive breed. Put a ban on the breeding and selling of these dogs in all parts of the UK and start educating the general public on how to raise a well-rounded and safe dog when they first get a puppy. Most people especially during lockdown on a whim without any research or knowledge on how dogs think or learn. Most dogs are not socialised or trained enough during that first week period. I watched a Netflix series called Unnatural Selection In the series, a dog breeder, a totally untrained layman working as an oil field technician was experimenting with genetics and altering the DNA of dogs. His own dogs were mainly American XL Bully-type dogs and he had a lot of them. He was buying DNA manipulation kits so as to speed up the dramatic changes that people wanted in this breed of dog. He artificially inseminated and extracted semen from his dogs he was experimenting to make rapid genetic changes in his animals. The man in question lives in Mississippi USA. Perhaps he or someone else succeeded? If so that could explain the sudden dramatic climb in fatal attacks from these XL Bully Breeds. It has now been reported that the XL American Bully dogs in the UK are times more likely to kill than any other dog breed, according to a new analysis of public data. What I am concerned about is whatever happened created a Frankenstein monster of a dog. Legislation is urgently required before many more children, adults, and dogs are killed. The problem with the XL Bullies their aggression is not related to socialisation, though that can exacerbate the problem. The real concern is their powerful genetic disposition for predatory and reactive aggression. These dogs were bred to fight and attack. They are the type of dogs that were used in Bull and Bear Baiting, and dog fighting, They also hark back to the famous dogs of war used by the Romans to create their empire and of course to invade Britain. Has anyone heard anything from the Government about this problem? I have been saying this on TV and Radio for the last 6 months. Neither DEFRA nor the Government has uttered a word about the fact that In the last 3 years, the vast majority of deaths have been caused by one specific breed. Has it been done has the severity of the sentencing changed and have they changed the charge from stolen property like a laptop or mobile to abducting a family pet and sentient animal with all that entails? They are certainly somewhat removed from the Pit Bulls used as the basis for the development of the breed. The primary reason why breeders set out to create the breed we now know as the American Bully was to develop a calmer, more predictable, and smarter version of the American Pit Bull that would make a safe family and companion dog. The American Pit Bull, on the other hand, was primarily bred as a fighting dog, hence the genetic makeup that predisposes it to aggressive and unpredictable behavior when overexcited or not very well trained. With its intimidating appearance, it would be easy to stereotype the American Bully XL as a vicious dog, but breeders have met and exceeded their goals for the creation of a strong, yet gentle giant. Although any dog can become aggressive if not treated well and trained properly, American Bullies are generally disposed to be friendly, outgoing, and eager to please. Like other dogs, they will defend their families if need be, but a well-socialized, properly cared-for American Bully XL is easygoing with visitors, gentle with children, and courteous towards other dogs. However, the importance of training cannot be overstated. Instead, they come from what many people would see as a completely unexpected quarter: the lazy, loveable and intelligent Labrador! An enormously strong dog that easily forgets his training in a pinch is a danger to everyone — even his owners. But the American Bully XL responds well to training. Eager to take the lead from its owner, the XL Bully is a quick learner when trained using positive reinforcement methods and is able to master a multitude of commands with surprising rapidity. Enquire into the bloodline. You should be able to see the mother, but the father might not be around. Nevertheless ask about him too and look at pictures — they should be available. Both parents should be big, strong, and healthy dogs. Ask whether there is any veterinary report you can look through, and watch out for flaws in the pups. Do remember that certain flaws can only become apparent in time. Adult height is the primary determining factor that sets the XL apart from the Standard. A stature of less than 20 inches 19 in females means that your dog will be classed as a Standard American Bully, even if both of its parents were XL Bullies. The earlier you start with socialization training, the easier it is. Since socialization begins with the breeder, observe how they treat their dogs. Ensure that it experiences safe, positive interactions with other people and animals. Take it out for walks to experience new sights and smells, and if you can enroll in puppy classes, do so, since this serves the dual role of basic obedience training and socialization with other people and strange dogs. Feeding An American Bully XL With a lot of growing to do, your American Bully pup should get a specially formulated, nutrient-dense puppy food to help it get the best start in life. You might decide to feed your American Bully XL a protein rich diet that you prepare from fresh ingredients at home. Never overfeed your Bully. It will make your dog prone to a host of health issues. Your dog should have a pronounced waist, good muscle definition, and ribs that, though not visible at a glance, can be felt just beneath the skin. Because of their genetic diversity, XL Bullies are actually relatively healthy dogs. Nevertheless, there are certain conditions to which they are somewhat predisposed and which you should keep an eye out for. It occurs when the third eyelid becomes displaced and covers the eye. Eye infections are fairly common in Bullies and should receive prompt attention. This condition usually manifests later in life. Regretfully, there is no cure for hip dysplasia. Skin Issues Eczema, seborrhea, a condition that causes scaly looking patches and inflammation, and Acute Moist Dermatitis also known as hot spots are also relatively common in American Bullies including the XL. If your dog has eczema or hot spots, work with your vet to determine their cause. Food allergies could be to blame, but so could hormonal issues or even an allergy triggered by parasites. Heart Disease American Bully XL genes may confer many advantages, but unfortunately congenital heart disease is part of the package for some animals. Help your pet to stave off cardiovascular issues by monitoring its weight and preventing obesity. As with human beings, a healthy diet and exercise routine can help to maintain heart health. You should certainly check it out to ensure that all is well and to determine whether dietary changes might help. General Veterinary Care Certain diseases are common to all dogs if they are not vaccinated. Annual visits to the veterinarian to update inoculations and do a general health check are always advisable. Keep anti-parasite medications like deworming tablets, tick and flea control, and heartworm control up to date. An American Bully can be expected to live to be 8 to 12 years old on average, although some pet bullies have been known to live longer lives. However, this dog is not for everyone. Bear in mind that all puppies are inclined to chew things, and with even a pup having a very powerful mouth, an unsupervised puppy can wreak havoc. From wrecking your garden to shredding your furniture, huge damage can result.
