With many years of experience in ethical, responsible breeding as members of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America - we adhere to the standards they provide. Our AKC registered dogs are deeply rooted in select German lines, and select American lines with a careful breeding plan we produce puppies, 4 to 6 annual litters, that excel as cherished family pets, working and show dogs. We are also expanding what we train or introduce our pups to, we have plans to bring in canine agility training and conformation. We remain active with our dogs and take great pride in ensuring that our pups are raised in a healthy, well socialized and loving environment. We talk below about some of the specialty areas that our pups have been and will continue to be successful in. You'll find our pups grow to be great protectors, wonderful pets, excellent in the fields of search and rescue, remarkable therapy dogs - it all begins with our puppy training. Ursus De Parayas We are eagerly expecting puppies from Gracie and Drogo the first week of November, with puppies ready to go to their new home in January! Gracie is AKC reg. Drogo is our most recent German import! Please fill out the application on our website or inquire for information. Most of our litters are spoken for before they are born. Families choose their puppies at 6 weeks and choose in the order which we receive deposits. Puppies have gone to police departments, fire departments, and as service dogs across the country. Puppies come with their first round of shots, are de-wormed at 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8 weeks, and raised with our family. They are accustomed to loud noises, environmental stimuli, water, spend most of their time outdoors and are given weekly baths. We stand behind our puppies-they truly are superb! So kind and sweet. We are blessed to have found Amanda. They are excellent protection, work and family dogs. They are happiest when exercised and given a job daily. Like all dogs, German Shepherds crave physical and mental stimulation. A good home is our utmost priority! He's gorgeous. Hopefully there will be something around next July but to be honest if it was earlier I certainly wouldn't complain. Do you take your dogs to a groomer or do you do it yourself? I was hoping to learn how to do it myself if possible. It might prove less hassle though getting someone else to do it. Also do you do the ear plucking or do you trim the ears? I'll stop asking questions after this ha ha. Although I live in Scotland both my dogs came from a breeder in South Wales Courtlands We got the first one there because both Tora and Lomond Hills in Scotland couldn't supply a puppy in the time scale we were hoping for. Went back to Wales for the second because we were so pleased with the looks and temperament of our first. I have since spoken to other owners who have purchased from both Tora and Lomond Hills and all spoke positively about their dogs and experience of both breeders. Regards grooming your dog yourself that is exactly how I felt and went to a local groomer who does training courses for people wanting to be full time groomers. I explained I only wanted to do my own dog and not start up a business and they took me on for a one day course, taught me the basics and I've done both of my ever since. I'm not as quick as a professional groomer but I can groom the dogs at a time that suits me, no leaving the dogs at a groomers. Can do it as often or as little as I want , cut as short or leave as long as suits. Would recommend it for anyone who is interested. The groomer I went to is in Lanarkshire, don't know if that is anywhere near you but you could always ask someone more local to you if they would do something similar. Complete the puppy enquiry form here What our customers say We are so happy with our new puppy Huey. Davina has been so helpful and supportive all along and her step by step guides make everything so easy to follow and understand that it takes any stress away. A great service and amazing dogs Louisa Johnson We have now had Cooper home with us in Scotland for a week. Davina made the process of buy Cooper very simple and was happy to answer all our questions. Both our vet and ourselves were very impressed with the pack of documents and advice sheets Cooper came with. This has helped us a lot in the first few days. Kerry Stanners I decided to get a dog after much encouragement ,following the loss of my eldest daughter. I got in touch with Davina and she had 2 puppies I could choose from. I liked the fact that we had a good conversation about why I wanted a dog, whether I worked and how the pup would live. Thankfully Davina thought a was a suitable owner and I brought Poppy home. I remember so clearly, hearing myself laugh properly, for the 1st time in 5 years. Poppy taught, teaches me, to enjoy simple pleasures. So much so that 9 months later I brought home Poppy's half sister, Truffle. Total joy and Courtlands, Davina, is amazing. I would recommend to everyone and thank you from Poppy and Truffle. Liz Bauer Our puppy came to live with us at the end of July. Davina had clearly done an excellent job with early socialisation. Obi is a delight every day. He is such an easy puppy and such a joy to have around. Behind us in this picture are loads of people flying kites. Kim Hewlett We love our Fudge from Courtlands. She is perfect!!! Communication was really fast and Devina was very professional throughout the process. Our puppy is absolutely stunning, healthy and very happy! What a fabulous experience. The knowledge we left with when we picked our Freddie up at 9weeks old was superb. Totally professional with the best interest of our puppy paramount. We have a healthy happy puppy. Thank you Davina. Xx Pamela Dawne Holt Hamish is fourteen months old now and is an absolute joy! Really happy with all the support Davina gave us in making the right choices and her advice has been absolutely spot on. I look forward to finding a brother or sister for Hamish very soon?? Matt Beard We collected Dougal 10 days ago. He is a fluffy little bundle of joy and great with our children. Davina knew he had a long drive home to Scotland and had good advice to give us. He was great and not bothered at all. Collection was easy and all paperwork was in order and gone through with us. A delightful addition to our family. Thank you! He is the most perfect little bundle of joy you could ever ask for! Marley-Blue comes to school work with me every day to support children as a therapy dog. He has a perfectly calm temperament with a cheeky mix of playfulness. Courtlands were great, we picked our puppy from a beautiful litter, we were sent regular updates until he was ready to live with us. We got lots of information to take away and digest too. On his first visit to the vets for immunisation, the staff were vey impressed by the paperwork I had from the breeders. No shedding, super calm, good with everyone and patient!!! Just been such a wonderful calm dog, super mannered and I put it down to his breeding. Henry Gittins If Carlsberg made dogs xxx. Possibly the cutest fur babies I've seen Zana Marie Jones Welcomed our handsome, bundle of fluff, in May, into our family. Constantly complimented on his appearance. Our pup, lotti, is just such a delight and so easy to train. She is great with our children, other children and just anyone she meets! Thank you so so much Davina! Many people keep asking where we got Lotti from so I think you can expect some Northumbrian customers in the future? Geno Arthur Pessers Gaia has been with us for 8 years and she is a fantastic girl. Thank you Davina for allowing this beautiful meeting. She illuminates our life and I hope for a very long time yet Fabrice Poirot Probably the best place to get your good natured Australian labradoodle Ian 'Iggy' Joynson We bought our puppy November .What a Fantastic dog he has turned into. Dianne Liptrot We picked up our new puppy on Saturday from Courtlands. We were recommended Davina by friends who had one of her beautiful puppies 6 years ago. Ours is called Digby and is 10 weeks old. The whole buying process was made easy by Davina. She kept us informed and my endless questions did not phase her at all! Digby is gorgeous we all adore him already. Tess May.

These laidback pups like to relax to the max, meaning they're perfectly content with a few walks a day — and lots of love, of course. Bulldogs love nothing more than a good nap, but don't let their sleepiness rub off on you. All dogs — even the less active ones! Their calm and patient disposition also makes the gentle giants a great "nanny dog" for kids. When they're not hunting, the skilled scent hounds still love to cuddle up with the family. They rarely bark , hardly shed and enjoy a brisk walk around the block for exercise. What more could you want? The little lap dogs did originally live in the Chinese palaces, but their modern counterparts will settle for less than royalty. The big fluff-balls like relaxing indoors as much as they like being outside. While somewhat stubborn and suspicious of strangers, Chow Chows are devoted and bonded to their families. Their reserved and quiet nature actually earns frequent comparisons to cats. The AKC even recommends exercising them in a contained area since they're notorious for not coming when called. Put their upbeat personality and small stature together and you have an energetic breed that doesn't need a lot of physical activity. Unlike some of the other big breeds, Great Danes make friends easily, and stay patient even with much smaller kiddos. The best way to get these pups to exercise is to bring them to water. They're natural swimmers! Some owners will stick with the shorter puppy cut just for that reason. After a bit of bounding in the backyard, the easygoing pups can go for some solid sofa time. While they're lovable and low-energy with their families, experts don't recommend this breed for first-time dog owners or households with children due to their defensive nature. With their signature bat ears and expressive eyes, French Bulldogs, or "Frenchies" as they are lovingly known, have captured the hearts of many dog lovers around the globe, consistently ranking among the most popular breeds. Renowned for their easy maintenance and the ability to thrive in apartment living, French Bulldogs are a city dweller's delight. Their small size, typically weighing under 28 pounds, makes them perfectly suited to compact urban spaces. However, their charming personalities and heartwarming companionship are universally loved, irrespective of city or countryside living. This breed's laid-back nature does not mean they're devoid of fun and play. On the contrary, French Bulldogs can be quite playful and are known for their often comical and entertaining antics, which only further endears them to their owners. Their affectionate demeanor, combined with a remarkably low barking tendency, makes them a joy to have around the house. French Bulldogs are sturdy, compact, and stocky, with a powerful muscular build that contradicts their small size. They have a smooth coat that comes in a variety of colors, from fawn and brindle to white and grey. Their facial expressions are human-like, and they're known to "talk" using a complex system of yawns, yips, and gargles. However, owning a French Bulldog does come with responsibilities. Their brachycephalic short-nosed nature makes them prone to certain health issues and less tolerant of extreme temperatures. Despite their muscular appearance, they are not the best swimmers, and care should be taken around bodies of water. Questions about French Bulldog puppies for sale in Rhode Island? We have answers. Because these dogs have very narrow hip bones, the females usually need to be artificially inseminated and then give birth via C-section. This all adds up to additional costs for Rhode Island French Bulldog breeders, which is why their puppy prices are more than your average breed. We are completely pro-shelter, and believe that all dogs in shelters deserve to find their loving forever homes. Our mission is to help all dog owners make an informed decision to buy from an ethical business who truly cares about their dogs. How will I know my puppy will be healthy? One or both of this puppy's parents have undergone genetic testing. One or both of this puppy's parents are hip certified. The sad truth is that many pet store purchased pups actually come from puppy mills. Basically, there is zero authenticity with pet stores. When it comes to adopting any animal from a pet store, there is an increased risk of unforeseen health or genetic problems. You also cultivate a life-long relationship with the breeder, meaning support is available to you anytime you may need it. With My Golden Retriever Puppies , you have the option to come and visit both the puppy and the breeder in person! Golden Retrievers are an adaptable breed, meaning they are better at adapting to seasonal changes and various types of climate than certain other breeds. Goldens sport a double-coat, which ensures that these sweet pups are able to tolerate slightly colder temperatures than their friends from other breeds. Your pup deserves better than that, which is why here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we ensure high-quality care is taken of your pet at all times. We even have all types of golden retrievers for sale! At My Golden Retriever Puppies, we pride ourselves on our golden retriever price being fair and affordable for high quality puppies. Here at My Golden Retriever Puppies , we value family and authenticity, which is why we always guarantee our pups through our 2-year genetic health guarantee. Like adopting a Golden Retriever from a pet store, there is an increased risk when adopting a pup from a rescue center or shelter as well. For example, pups purchased through a shelter or rescue center are far less likely to come with the kinds of health guarantees and reassurances that a breeder can provide. Be the first to know when we have new puppies! All Rights Reserved. She picked out Dennis the day we came to see the puppies. She kept sitting on his foot whenever he held another puppy. She alerts me every morning when he gets up and loves to clean his beard. We can't wait until she is old enough to go through service dog training so she can go everywhere with us! She is the bright spot in our long and rough journey. We thank Timber Creek Goldens for all the love they give their dogs and the new families they help with their puppies. He was easy to train and has the sweetest demeanor. Couldn't have asked for a better experience from Timber Creek! He is one of the only two breeders I will communicate with. Jordan knows his dogs, business, and is very informative. His vet is also pleasant to talk to. I couldn't be happier with the buying process and how he treats not only his dogs, but his customers as well. Finn is beautiful and such a sweetheart. Thank you so much. Matthew Cook;Anchorage, Alaska Short version: these folks are the best, no questions asked. We adopted Marlin, and he is about as perfect as a puppy that anyone could ask for. He is very healthy and has a wonderful temperament. I would say that the bloodline is top notch. Marlin wants nothing other than to just chill with his family. He is so gentle and loyal, when off a leash he rarely goes more than ten feet and always comes right back. He took to our girls, literally, instantly after getting home. He follows them everywhere! He is super snuggly and lovable. Timber Creek has excellent communication and super speedy replies. Every question I asked had an answer instantly, no "uh, let me check" or anything like that. They treat customers as friends, I was at the vet and had a question so I called. Unknowingly, I interrupted them outside with their family yet I still had everything answered. In my opinion; Timber Creek is easily amongst the best breeders around. Just over all friendly and easy to work with. I could not recommend getting a puppy from them enough! In a couple years or so, we plan on getting a second puppy from them! They are rambunctious and playful but also cuddly and sweet and LOVE having their bellies scratched. It is difficult to get a pic of them because they rarely hold still but here they are at 13 weeks today! Thank you, Jordan, for breeding and raising such special pups that have brought our family so much joy and love! Devon Truitt, Arkansas Man, we love this girl. My husband and I brought her home around Halloween and she has been just the best since then. In the past month she has really started to mature and come in to her own. We love her so much! Thank you Timber Creek for this wonderful addition to our family! From helping us make the perfect selection to the final follow up emails making sure everything with Gracie's transition went well. It was an easy, transparent, and seamless process. It's hard to put into words the happiness she has brought into our lives. We can't thank Jordan and his family enough! Dara Dossett, Arkansas I can't thank you guys enough for this sweet angel. Dolly has not had one accident since I got her and she immediately goes potty when we go out. She is the biggest cuddle bug and has adjusted so well! I put her in bed with me last night and she didn't make a peep. I got up at and but that was me waking her up. She went right back to sleep when we came back to bed. Such and incredible blessing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Jordan and Victoria are incredible from the first conversation of interest- to flying our baby to California for us! We are so in love with our little lady. She is so calm and curious. They not only have beautiful dogs, but just the loveliest to work with. I highly recommend them!! Thank you guys so much!! From the time I first contacted them about getting a puppy, they've been helpful. The process was smooth from purchasing to having our beautiful little girl shipped to Lexington, Kentucky. They updated me with pictures as she was growing, reaching out to check on her, answering any questions about puppy care I've had, and truly care about the puppies they provide. I have had an exciting experience preparing for Beretta's arrival and was in love with her the moment I picked her up. She's been well taken care of and am thankful for the opportunity to raise her as my own. Tamara Warren, Nevada I chose Timber Creek Golden Retrievers after losing both my male and female Golden's recently because of the dedication to responsible breeding Jordan adheres to. I received my first puppy female in late October and I could not be happier. As a result, I have since reserved another female from an upcoming litter and anxiously await her arrival in late January .I have had Golden Retrievers for most of my life and I must admit that my pup is probably THE most intelligent and yes energetic of any dog I've ever had. Jordan is an absolute delight and is incredibly responsive, patient and informative. As a business owner myself these are qualities that I most admire. He has a client for life and my utmost respect! My lifelong dream was to own and breed show dogs. After testing the waters with different breeds, I fell in love with the Golden Retriever. My brother and his wife got a puppy from Kala Goldens and it was then that I decided that this was the ultimate breed for me. As with a lot of stories, my first Golden did not turn out for show, but after many years I found Karen Brady KaraGold in Florida and bought my Sissy, who easily finished her championship and went on to become my foundation bitch. My husband and I live on an acreage in Goddard, Kansas, just outside of Wichita. We love spending time with our four legged friends. In fact Jim, who is an Equine Veterinarian, would have a hard time unwinding at the end of the day without taking his buddies for a long walk and a swim. We love our home and our family and hope for many more years of showing and breeding Goldens. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have. One that is most outstanding in my mind is that as a breeder I must breed selectively, and breed only for the best! Not only is the Golden Retriever Breed depending on me and other reputable breeders to do this, but so are all the folks hoping for that Best In Show dog, and especially all the families that just want a wonderful pet. So my dream has been fulfilled and I accept the responsibility of doing my absolute best for our beautiful breed. We have answers. Pros Unique Health Support Why we choose this as the best food for the German Shepherd puppy is because of its exceptional health support. Many puppies find it challenging to digest foods during the first couple of days. It has a blend of probiotics and enzymes that make it easy for your puppy to digest. These are obtained from the whole grains and lean meat of lamb instead of chicken fat. Chicken fat is not unhealthy per se, but lamb is way more nutritious. Cons Considering how big or quickly your German Shepherd puppy grows, a single bag of food may run out rather fast. If you have a small budget, this could pose a challenge given the high price of the Holistic Select Puppy Health Food. A majority of people are beginning to embrace a holistic lifestyle and this includes the food they eat. Precise believes that dogs should not be left behind in this movement. Our rating We rated this dog food product 4. This blend of features guarantees a smooth digestion for your pet. Boosts the Immune System Each bag of Precise has a wealth of fruit and vegetables such as peas and blueberries. This way, your German Shepherd has all the critical vitamins and minerals to stave off diseases. Cons Sadly, the Precise Holistic Complete is not sold in some local stores. As such, you should manage your inventory well and place new orders before your current bag runs out. While it is a relatively new recipe in the market, it has already received raving reviews from pet owners. Our rating Our rating for Purina dog food is 4. Fortunately, Purina canned dog food is totally grain-free. Instead, it is loaded with high-quality protein, which your pet needs to maintain his healthy muscles. Crafted by In-House Nutritionists Purina offers a variety of recipe and flavors, all of which contain no preservatives or artificial additives. Purina has in-house nutritionists, who run each formula through a test panel of animals before launching the product. Cons Some clients have reported that their older dogs ended up having loose stool. To combat this, try mixing the Purina Beyond Grain-Free with a dry food. Royal Canin is a far cry from the conventional dog food companies, which only aim at making extra profits. Instead, this firm competes on formulas and excellent taste. Hip dysplasia is a condition that affects lots of large breed dogs. The Royal Canin Giant Junior is designed to combat this. Promotes Healthy Aging Another perk of relying on this dog food is the fact that it has a complex combination of antioxidants and vitamins C and E. Along with taurine, these nutrients not only help your dog to age healthily but also boost its immune system. A Healthy Heart Thanks to the added L-carnitine, your dog will never suffer from heart problems. This compound is also excellent for his nervous system. Cons Compared to other dog foods in our review, the Royal Canin is pricey. Check out a complete review of Royal Canin from Chewy. It has the perfect ingredients for large dog breeds like the German Shepherd, particularly for those with food allergies. Our rating We gave the Wilderness Blue Buffalo dog food a rating of 4. This combination can keep your German Shepherd lively and active all day long. Also, we like that it comes in an array of flavors. These are meaty bits, which contain antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Ideally, LifeSource Bits are cold pressed; hence, the integrity of the ingredients is preserved. The nutrients boost longevity and the joints. Helps to combat food allergies Every bag of the Wilderness Blue Buffalo has organically whole grains, veggies, and fruit. These products contain nutrients, useful in treating food allergies and digestive problems. Conclusion German Shepherds make cool pets—ask any owner. Subsequently, the least we humans can do is to hook them up with nutrient-rich and delicious dog foods. Helps ease anxiety in their new home. We love using Bully Sticks to help divert these unwanted behaviors. For a list of all the supplies we get for our new service dog puppies check out our New Puppy Checklist on the PuppyInTraining. Key Points German shepherd nutrition is essential in keeping your dog's health up. Most quality dog foods are pricier, but you're paying for good ingredients and meals catered to your dog's needs. Look for high-protein dog food for your German shepherd but look out for sensitivities like chicken in your dog. Better watch out for those zoomies! Feeding your German shepherd a high-quality diet will get them up and moving. You might want to ensure you have ample space ready for them to burn off all that energy. With so many brands on the market, where do you even start? The best dog food for your pup might not be the best for someone else's, which is perfectly okay. Each dog has unique needs, so this list has more than one brand for you to consider. Always ensure your dog is healthy before switching foods, and don't switch out the food all at once. Take time to change your dog's diet, as going too quickly leads to digestive upset. Inside each bag are ingredients supporting the health of your dog's digestive tract, bones, joints, skin, and coat. Vets and nutritionists created the formula to cater to German shepherds' needs. The essential fatty acids from the fish oil to the unique dried beet pulp benefit your dog's health. Your dog meets their nutritional needs with this dog food and added benefits that help support health overall. Royal Canin knows that chewing is necessary, unlike other dog kibbles that are too small for your dog's mouth. Finding a bigger kibble size is necessary if your shepherd inhales other brands. Not only does Royal Canin ensure your dog has to slow down, but the bigger-sized kibble means your dog's teeth also get clean. The major downside to this brand is the price. The smallest size available is the pound bag. Yes, the formula keeps your dog's needs in mind, but there is always the chance your dog won't like the kibble. Photo source: Amazon. When the company started in , the promise to feed pets as a family member began. The promise to never use corn, wheat, soy, or poultry by-products remains the same 20 years later. German shepherds need a high-protein diet to keep active. That is where Blue Buffalo Wilderness comes in — it contains more meat that dogs love while adding whole grains for complete nourishment. Blue Buffalo contains exclusive LifeSource bits to enhance your dog's food, perfect for a large breed diet. These bits are darker kibble containing plenty of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that veterinarians and animal nutritionists select to keep your pet healthy. These bits are cold-formed to minimize heat exposure that degrades the potency of the nutritional value. The unique proteins that Blue Buffalo uses also have a downside: Many dogs are sensitive to these ingredients. Before switching, consult your vet about what is best for your dog. Chicken bothers many dogs with sensitive stomachs , so consider that before buying. This gourmet brand holds fresh and dehydrated animal protein, fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Each recipe of Origen Original is grain free and emulates what a dog would eat in the wild. Each bag contains 36 percent of proteins, 41 percent fats, and 23 percent carbs. Depending on the line you buy, these ratios will be different. Orihen has nine different varieties of dog food that all cater to different needs. Large breeds benefit from the original as it has the highest protein count for high-energy dogs. No matter the line, they are all grain free. Orijen understands that your German shepherd needs the energy to move but also understands that their brand might not suit every dog's needs. Orijen is honest in stating that dogs that need specialty diets don't benefit from their formula. Another risk is that the brand uses eggs, which many dogs are sensitive to. Like many brands, the price is higher than average. The payoff is that you know your dog is getting everything they need with fewer supplements than other brands. It's ideal for families with dogs of different breeds who still want to give their pets high-quality food. The Canidae Multi-Protein Formula fits the bill for pup owners who want food that benefits active dogs, from puppies to seniors. With fortified vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, probiotics, and amino acids, this dog food helps promote a healthy immune and digestive system. Whole foods are the priority, so inside each bag are rice, potatoes, oatmeal, and barley for healthy carbohydrate sources and fiber. Just like the brands before, one ingredient causes pet parents to pause. Canidae uses tomato pomace, which many people feel is a filler. The most likely reason for having tomato pomace is for an additional source of fiber. Hill's Science Diet is made in Topeka, Kansas, and the company ensures that only high-quality ingredients make up the brand's food. Hill's has a Global Pet Nutrition Center that tests and studies how their food affects dogs and how to improve their quality. Hill's Science Diet suits the large breed diet and smaller breeds for multidog households. Considering the diet is excellent for all dogs, it's suitable for your dogs from puppyhood to senior status. The adult, homemade dog food recipes for large dogs are explicitly formulated for those with high energy needs. Real meat is the first ingredient used in Hill's dog food. Your dog gets their needed protein, but chicken is the most common meat. If your dog has chicken sensitivity, Hill's is not the food to pick for your household. The biggest downside to Hill's Science Diet is many of the recipes include ingredients such as yellow peas, pea fiber, and soybean meal. Peas and legumes may cause heart disease in dogs, but more research is needed to determine the significance of the link. One of the key features in keeping this year-old brand alive is how they choose ingredients. They don't use ingredients that aren't ethically or sustainably sourced. Real meat is at the top of the ingredient list, but like many brands, chicken is the most common. Some other formulations include lamb and salmon instead of chicken to cater to sensitive stomachs. Nutro Ultra Large Breed formula is on the pricy side, but the price allows for quality ingredients. Overall, the brand is one of the best dog food brands for large breeds. The list above offers the top six brands that cater to your German shepherd's needs. If kibble doesn't suit your needs, making your own homemade dog food recipes is an option. Vets agree that the food you feed your dog should be high in protein and have as few fillers as possible. You want the healthiest ingredients, so avoid things like soy meal, corn, and wheat. If you have more questions about the right dog food for your shepherd, take a look at BreedExpert for more information! Was this article helpful? The main downside is that while Royal Canin is the most expensive kibble on our list, it also contains several grains and byproduct ingredients. We were hoping that the price meant higher quality ingredients, but Royal Canin seems to have abandoned whole foods for vitamin and mineral additives. Pros Designed specifically for German Shepherd puppies Smaller-sized kibbles for puppy teeth Protein blend to support digestion Balanced minerals for healthy bone growth Vitamin and antioxidant blend to support young immune systems Cons Some grains and byproduct ingredients 5. Blue Buffalo Wilderness Puppy Food Check Price on Amazon Blue Buffalo is a well-respected brand of dog food, and their reputation for quality is due in large part to their commitment to whole food ingredients. We love how much of the vitamins and minerals provided by this kibble come from whole foods like chicken, carrots, and sweet potatoes. Blue Buffalo does not go the quick and easy route of adding these nutrients later in the process, unlike other brands, and the finished product speaks for itself. However, German Shepherd puppies have notoriously finicky digestive systems. While being grain-free is helpful in that respect, this blend does not contain any other special formulations to support a healthy GI tract. It is extremely healthy, but also on the expensive side — so you may gamble and lose if your puppy has trouble digesting this kibble. Pros Designed for large breed puppies The first ingredient is deboned chicken Grain-free, no byproduct ingredients Vitamins and minerals are mainly provided by whole foods and complete proteins Support for bone growth, immune system, joints, and cognitive functioning Cons No modification to support a sensitive digestion 6. This chicken and brown rice puppy blend contains no byproduct ingredients, multiple lean animal proteins, and only the highest quality grains. However, this food is moderately expensive and does not specifically cater to dogs with sensitive digestive systems. Better to try a grain-free brand first and keep this option as a backup. The ingredients are all high quality, but the variety of foods in this blend leaves something to be desired. Considering that it is made almost entirely from protein, grains, and beans this brand is rather expensive. There are no whole vegetables or fruits, so many of the vitamins and minerals are provided by additives. Added vitamins are not only harder to absorb than those from whole foods, but cheaper. What gives? Most importantly, the beans may be hard for a German Shepherd puppy to digest and lead to a variety of gastrointestinal upset. While the lamb could be a nice change for your pup, we recommend testing this kibble out in small amounts to gauge suitability for your dog. Pros Designed for large breed puppies The first ingredient is deboned lamb, second is chicken meal Only high-quality, whole grains Whole foods supply joint support Cons Few whole fruits and vegetables Contains beans and peas which may upset digestion 8. But upon closer consideration, you will see why this food is not a great choice for German Shepherd puppies. Though it has good proteins, this is another brand that gets almost none of its nutrients from whole fruits or vegetables. Pros Designed for large breed puppies First ingredient is chicken meal No artificial colors or preservatives Balanced minerals to support bone growth Cons The second, third, and fourth ingredients are all grain Very few whole fruits and vegetables 9. Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy Dry Dog Food Check Price on Amazon The Eukanuba Large Breed puppy food is another excellent example of a food that, while technically complete and balanced, does not have the healthful ingredients to make all those nutrients available to your dog. Besides a few good foods like chicken, fish oil, and chicken meal, this kibble is chock full of cheap grains and byproducts. It contains no whole fruits or vegetables, and most of the vitamins and minerals are additives. German Shepherd puppy bellies are particularly sensitive to poor quality ingredients and additives. And though they advertise a special, easy-to-digest prebiotic blend on the package, there is no evidence anywhere else to substantiate this claim. We are compensated for referring customers to our affiliate partners. German Shepherds are the second most popular breed of dog in America and for good reason. Life Span Did You Know? The German Shepherd is one of the most versatile, well-recognized, and popular dog breeds in the world. The modern German Shepherd is descended from a family of various German herding dogs. Breed standards were not developed until the late 19th century when Captain Max von Stephanitz, a German cavalry officer, worked with Arthur Meyer and other breeders to develop the ideal German herding dog. Stephanitz and Meyer wrote the breed standard in and the American Kennel Club recognized the German Shepherd as a member of the Herding Group in .Although they were originally bred as herding dogs, they were also bred for versatility, which made the German Shepherd an all-around working dog that could excel in a variety of applications. German Shepherds are one of the common dog breeds employed in K-9 units in both police and military applications. They also make great service dogs and, of course, are still awesome herding dogs and farm dogs! The German Shepherd is a strong-willed and highly intelligent dog. They have a playful, energetic spirit and tend to get along with children, other dogs, and other pets, which makes them a great family companion. A born protector, the German Shepherd will provide a great sense of security for their family while their loving and lively personality will make them fit right in as a companion. German Shepherds are naturally protective and can be wary of strangers at first. A well-socialized German Shepherd will bark to alert you and tends to warm up to strangers once introduced. German Shepherds are dogs that were bred to herd and work. This, plus their high energy, makes them a better fit for homes with fenced yards where they can run. They can adapt well to larger apartments as long as plenty of time is dedicated to ensuring they get enough exercise, mental stimulation, and attention every day. A bored, ignored, or under-exercised German Shepherd can often become a destructive one. They also can be sensitive to their surroundings and large gatherings can be off-putting. With a longer coat, they tend to prefer cooler climates and are sensitive to heat. The German Shepherd is a generally healthy breed, but there are some potential health concerns and good breeding practices make a big difference. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a German Shepherd include hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia , and degenerative myelopathy. Reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a barrel-chested breed, the German Shepherd is also at risk for bloat. While the German Shepherd is highly intelligent and highly trainable, they are generally not recommended for novice owners. If you are a novice dog owner, enroll in puppy training classes or enlist the help of a professional dog trainer; not just for your dog, but for yourself as well. Training assistance will help you grow in experience and build a strong bond between you and your German Shepherd puppy, which is essential. Also, the GSD has a thirst for training and fulfillment. They get bored easily and especially with repetition, so continued training with your German Shepherd throughout their life will be necessary. German Shepherds have a medium-to-long double coat. They will shed year-round and heavier as seasons change. Brushing a few times a week is usually sufficient; brushing daily is even better and your GSD will likely love you for it. Bathing is occasional on an as-needed basis. Ear checks weekly with careful cleanings as needed can help prevent ear infections. German Shepherds are high-energy working dogs. Not only do they require a lot of daily activity, but they also are a herding breed that was made to run, guard, and observe, so they need a job to do to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus playtime, time to run, and other activities are usually enough for a GSD, but they will likely be up for more activity if you are. With their versatility and athleticism, you can try a lot of different activities when puppies finish growing and they are cleared for higher-impact things. A fully-grown German Shepherd usually stands inches tall and weighs pounds. German Shepherds generally live for years on average. Take appropriate steps to have each puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian for general health prior to placement. Each puppy should be vaccinated and de-wormed by a veterinarian. Endeavor to gain personal knowledge of the temperament and health of every dog they breed, or to which they breed, in order to gather information on which to base future breeding decisions. They share this information fully and honestly with other breeders and with prospective buyers. Sell breeding prospects to knowledgeable, ethical and experienced persons or are willing to help educate and guide novices. Do not engage in misleading or untrue advertising and do not use GSDCA membership as a marketing tool. Do not sell, supply, donate or surrender any dog for which they are responsible to a pet shop, catalogue house, wholesale dealer in dogs, Humane Society or to a laboratory. They should have reasonable assurance that each individual receiving a dog will provide a home with appropriate shelter, restraint, control and responsible care. Encourage puppy buyers to go to puppy obedience classes to help their puppies to become better canine good citizens. The achievement of a Canine Good Citizen certificate should be encouraged. Since homeowners insurance and local laws vary greatly, a refusal to let you visit the kennels may not, in and of itself, be a bad sign. You should ask for and receive a satisfactory explanation. The puppies are not social or look sickly. How to read those ads. A few more things to look out for. Anyone can buy a puppy from a champion, but it does not mean that they have any other interest in the breed but to bank on the name and make money. Having a Champion in a pedigree is like having a billionaire relative. AKC registration does not guarantee quality. AKC papers are much like the title of a car; papers are issued to the junked Chevy on blocks in your yard just as easily as they are on a brand new, shiny Jaguar. AKC does not control breeding, approve litters, or guarantee temperaments. AKC Registration is automatic if you buy from a reputable breeder — they will provide all necessary paperwork when you buy a puppy. There are several groups that are registering dogs, even mixed breeds, for a fee. This registration means nothing, and is of no value to you. Are there too many defects for the animal to be bred? Shop with care. Rarely will a good breeder have the luck to own both dogs for the perfect litter. There are some good and very reasonable reasons to have both parents on site. However, you need to ask the right questions and understand why this is true. They might be, they might not. Are they too big to be cute anymore? Need more money? Is there a problem? Usually because there are more on the way. Be very wary of this one. Will a Breeder Ask Me Questions? Conscientious breeders want the best available home for their puppies. This determines the amount of time you will have available for your new addition. There are very important items that should be supplied by the breeder. Breeders will typically give you the following items: A signed pedigree A current Health Record; including de-wormings and vaccinations. American Kennel Club registration papers or application Sales contract. The type of contract varies and must be mutually agreeable to the breeder and buyer. Much depends on what you expect from the puppy show, pet, or performance. Feeding schedule including the type and amount of food. Copy of OFA certification of sire and dam, if available.

Between the four of us we can have approximately 3 to 6 litters per year. I Darcy am also a founding member of the Betterbred Registry which analyzes VGL genetic data in regards to autoimmune and other potential health issues for poodles. We strive to provide appropriate stimulation for each puppy according to their development. This includes frequent walks outside, visiting our other pets, and playing with different kinds of toys. We also incorporate positive training while the puppies are young in such a way that the puppies don't even know they are receiving obedience training. We keep it fun. As maturing puppies stay with us we continue obedience training and they learn more and more the longer they are with us. We temperament test using the Volhard tool to help us pair puppies to the right home. This helps for each puppy and family to come to a great match for each other. A structure evaluation is performed on each puppy. A puppy with good structure is "comfortable in its own skin" and happier and able to perform better. This is especially essential to puppies that will grow and have important work like being a service dog, competing in agility and other dog sports, and also in conformation showing. french bulldog puppies omaha - Breeds The link has been copied! The German Shepherd breed has always been popular in America. In fact, they have been ranked as number 1 in popularity throughout most of U. If a female German Shepherd dog GSD has joined your family, and you are thinking about breeding from her, you may be curious about how many puppies you should expect in one litter — as well as how many she might have over her years with you. On average, a German Shepherd can have puppies per litter. Some have as many as 15 or as few as one puppy per litter. On record, the biggest German Shepherd litter was 17 puppies by a dog named Mosha. The gestation period is approximately 63 days about two months after conceiving. However, this number may vary by several days. A German Shepherd dog can have two litters per year until around the age of 8. This means that a German Shepherd Dog can have approximately 14 litters in her entire lifetime. Well, the answer to this may help you understand the quantity of puppies they produce in a litter. The German Shepherd is native to Germany and is a cross breed between working sheep dogs and a dog believed to be a quarter wolf. They were originally bred to protect families and to herd livestock. Are there factors that affect the number of puppies a female German Shepherd can have? How many times in a year can they give birth? Knowing how many puppies to expect may help you plan resources to accommodate them if you are planning on becoming a breeder. A female German Shepherd with a small body will have a smaller litter size compared to a GSD with a bigger body. If you want a larger litter size, therefore, you should breed your German Shepherd before they are seven years or older. The best breeding years are between 2- 5 years of age. As the male dog ages, their sperm count decreases, and this affects the number of puppies in the litter. If you are a breeder, it is best to practice breeding when the male dog is in its prime years, between 2- 5 years. This way, you are likely to get a bigger litter size. The female should also have a healthy diet before breeding. Diet and health go hand in hand. A diet that consists of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates will help your GSD to have a larger litter size. Your vet will help you determine the perfect diet before, during, and after your dog's pregnancy. Although it may be nerve-wracking, you need to be there to help your German Shepherd give birth. A whelping box with a heating pad or a heating lamp will help keep the new-born puppies warm. New-born puppies are unable to regulate their body temperature, hence why the heating pad or lamp will come in handy. Heating pads: place them under the blankets or towels where the puppies lie. Make sure the setting is comfortable for them. At birth, they weigh about 0. German Shepherd dog puppies have four developmental life stages after they are born. You will notice the mother licking her puppies to clean them. Milk from their mother is very crucial at this age. They can begin eating some main foods but still nurse and feed on soft foods. By eight weeks, a puppy has all its teeth, and the teething process begins. At this time, you should ensure each puppy starts to wear a properly-fitted dog collar. For added security, choose a collar that allows you to track their location via GPS. Final Thoughts Owning a dog is a joyous experience, and when you own a German Shepherd, you have a loyal, smart, fierce, and protective dog for life. To add to that, German Shepherd dogs make good mothers and they know what to do during and after giving birth. For more helpful articles about pet-parenting tips, check out the Off Leash blog at TryFi. Fi smart dog collars make it easier than ever. Once your dog has had them Factors that determine the number of pups that the dog will have Although the body of most animals operates synchronously and wonderfully, dogs are not machines. Therefore they do not always have the same number of pups. In addition, some factors may interfere with the amount of puppies present in the litter, which may vary according to: The age of the dog - the most numerous births often occur from the fourth heat onwards. If the dog is properly nurtured and fed. The dog's general health. When the dog is bred. Female dogs have only two fertile days and breeding them at this stage will ensure greater litter numbers instead of doing it a few days earlier. Dog sperm can survive inside the female for two days, so if bred two days before the fertile time, the female can still get pregnant - but it is likely that only a few sperm are alive to fertilise those eggs, reducing the amount of the dog's litter. It's the bitch who frees the number of eggs that will be exposed to fertilisation depending on factors such as size and heritage, thus the myth that a dog is a stud and that depends solely on the male for the amount of puppies is false. The number of puppies depends on the number of mature eggs that emerge from the ovaries, the day the sexual intercourse is done and then, of course, the fertility of the male dog. Besides, German Shepherds with pedigree tend to have fewer puppies than those that do not have such a pure lineage or care. How many puppies do German Shepherds usually have? We must bear in mind that the German Shepherd is a large breed, so the ovaries have the capacity to produce more eggs and the uterus has more space to store the puppies, which means that they usually have large litters. A German Shepherd which does not have a pedigree lineage usually has between 7 and 9 puppies, while those with pedigree lineage often pop out between 4 and 6 puppies. It is essential to note that this is not a standard because many factors interfere with the formula. There may be bitches that have more or even fewer puppies than indicated here. Once your dog has had them It is essential to respect the time of birth and the first hours in which both puppies and your dog are together. Remember that dogs are highly olfactory, so you should not bathe your dog after giving birth or you could remove its natural odour and thus confuse the puppies. However it is useful to carefully clean the dog basket and wipe it with a damp cloth that has been dipped in warm water. Then dry it with some towels and return it to those puppies. During the first 12 hours, your bitch will not want to eat, but it is important to give her plenty of fresh water to keep her hydrated. When the animal regains its appetite, it must have at its disposal nutritious food. German Shepherd puppies should not be separated from the mother before 8 weeks. This could affect their learning and development. The recommendation, in fact, is to wait until 10 weeks to give them a new home. Puppies If your German Shepherd is pregnant or you are planning on breeding you may be wondering how many puppies can a German Shepherd have. The amount of puppies each German Shepherd has will vary on many different factors. This article will answer dive into the factors to help you better predict the number of puppies your GSD will have. Generally, you can expect a German Shepherd to have between 5 and 8 puppies per litter. However, German Shepherds have had litters as large as 14 and as small as only 1. There are many factors that contribute to the size of the litter. A German Shepherd can have puppies twice a year. Large dogs like German Shepherds go into heat around every 6 months. During their heat is when they are capable of becoming pregnant. A normal heat cycle lasts between two and four weeks long. Thus, if you breeders or individuals who are looking to breed their GSD track their heat timing and plan to have them mate during their heat. German Shepherds are pregnant for nine weeks on average. Factors That Affect German Shepherd Littler Size Although it is normal for a German Shepherd to have between five and eight puppies a litter, there are many factors that can increase or decrease the litter size. The most common factors are below: The size of the female dog The size of the dog has a big impact of how many puppies they can carry. Although German Shepherds are considered to be a large dog breed some female German Shepherds are larger than others. A female GSD that is larger will be able to carry more pups than a smaller one. Inbreeding Another factor that can contribute to litter size is inbreeding. A pregnancy that is the result of inbreeding will generally produce less puppies than one that is not. Accordingly, if you want to increase your GSD litter size make sure not to bred a female with a male that is related. The age of female The age of the female German Shepherds also plays a role in their potential litter size. Older German Shepherds will generally have smaller litters. The prime age to breed a GSD is between 2 and 5 years of age. You should not breed an elderly GSD. Just like with human males, the sperm count of male German Shepherds will decrease as they age. This decrease can make it harder for them to get a female pregnant and can also impact the litter size if they do get a female GSD pregnant. Health of the female Another factor that is important is the overall health of the female German Shepherd. In order for any dog to produce a healthy plentiful litter of puppies the dog carrying the pups has to be in prime health. Leading up to pregnancy your dog should be fed a high-quality diet, and during pregnancy a GSD will require a diet in that a certain amount of protein, fat and carbohydrates to ensure a health pregnancy. Additionally, pregnant German Shepherds can sometimes need dietary supplements if they are not getting the appropriate nutrients through their diet. Conclusion There are many factors that impact how many puppies German Shepherds can have. Most commonly German Shepherds will have between five and eight puppies, but age, health, and inbreeding can cause a GSD to bear a smaller litter. Breeders who are looking to increase litter size will need to make sure that all those controllable factors are in line and let nature do the rest. Aug 3, Share German Shepherds tend to have between five and nine puppies in a litter. Eight is the average. According to the AKC , the largest litter registered was 17 puppies. This litter size is significantly larger than some other breeds. German Shepherds are larger dogs, so they are going to have more puppies than smaller breeds. For instance, Dachshunds only have one to six puppies on average. The largest litter ever came from a Neapolitan Mastiff, a breed that can reach pounds. When it comes to litter sizes, size does matter. It is impossible to tell how many puppies that a particular dog might have until she gets further into her pregnancy. These factors may help you make a good guess, however. This is most obvious when comparing different dog breeds. In turn, small breeds have small litters. However, the exact size of the dog also matters. Smaller German Shepherds will have smaller litters on average than larger German Shepherds. If your dog is larger, she may end up having a larger litter, or she might not. This will reduce the overall size of the litter. Even if you feed her excellent food and take care of her, underlying health problems can cause puppies to perish before they are fully developed. Diabetes is an excellent example of this. However, improperly fluctuating blood sugar can have a massive impact on growing puppies. Without the proper blood sugar levels, many puppies will not develop properly. Short-term conditions can also cause some puppies to develop improperly and be reabsorbed. For instance, infections can cause one or more puppies to stop developing altogether. Most miscarriages go unnoticed without any clinical signs, especially if only a few puppies are lost. Only late-term miscarriages usually get noticed. This seems to happen most commonly in purebred dogs, according to the vets at High Street Steeping Vet Clinic. Purebred dogs may have more genetic abnormalities than mixed breed dogs because they inherit traits from a smaller genetic pool. The odds of them inheriting something harmful is higher, simply because there are fewer genes for them to inherit. Many purebred dogs are also inbred, including the German Shepherd. Middle-aged German Shepherds tend to have larger litters than younger and older dogs. German Shepherds typically have the largest litters around age 5. After that, they may decline in size. However, this decline is more rapid and apparent in some dogs than others. Many older dogs have health problems, which likely affects their litter size too. Some of these health impacts may go unnoticed and therefore, be wrongly attributed to age. Season There is evidence that the season that the dog gives birth affects the litter size. However, other studies found no correlation between when the litter was born and the overall litter size. There may be a regional component to this, though. In areas with more significant seasonal changes, the season may make more of a difference. In the tropics, it may not. However, more studies are needed to determine this possibility. Heritability Studies have found that dogs may inherit their litter size potential. Dogs that are born to bigger litters tend to have bigger litters themselves. If there is another factor at play, it will likely take precedent. Plus, much of this heritability may be linked to the size of the dog. Many dogs are going to be a similar size as their parents. Nutrition Image Credit: Monika Wisniewska, Shutterstock There are a few nutritional components that can affect litter size and the overall health of the mother and her puppies. When a mother dog becomes pregnant, her nutritional needs change. Protein is essential for pregnant dogs. This is similar to what puppies need, so many pregnant dogs are often fed puppy-intended dog food. Fatty acids may also play a role. Dogs with lower levels of serum glucose in their amniotic fluid tend to have smaller litter sizes. Therefore, feeding them a diet higher in omega fatty acids may be helpful. Image Credit: J. Feeding your canine a better diet may result in a bigger litter, for instance. If your dog is sick, it is paramount that you treat them before attempting to create a litter. However, these factors have to be adjusted before the dog gets pregnant. Once the dog has conceived, it is impossible to increase their litter size, though you can prevent losses. There are also many factors out of your control. While there are a few things that you can do to reduce the risk of these issues, you can never prevent them entirely. Even if your dog lives in a clean environment and is healthy, infections can still occur. You should be feeding her food suitable for puppies as soon as you plan on breeding her or at least as soon as you find out that she is pregnant. Choosing which dogs to breed also impacts litter size and can be controlled to a certain extent. However, some dogs may have small litter sizes but may otherwise be great breeding candidates. In general, to increase your dog's litter size, we recommend doing the following: Regular testing for infections Regular vet checks for reproductive tract disease Final Thoughts The average German Shepherd litter size is about eight puppies. However, there are many factors that can go into this. Keeping your dog healthy is essential to maximizing litter sizes. But many factors are outside of your control. If a puppy inherits specific genes, they are less likely to develop correctly and make it to birth, lowering the overall litter size. Related Reads:. A junior is the canine version of a teenager, and this is usually the time period between six and twelve months old. Adult dogs have completely finished growing and range between one and seven years old, while mature dog is at least seven years old. After this age, the dog will then be considered middle-aged. The ages of the last two categories will depend on the breed. A senior dog is an older dog that has reached the final quarter of its life expectancy. Since a German Shepherd has a life expectancy between 12 and 14 years, it will enter its senior years when it is between nine and .A geriatric dog is one that has reached the end of its stated life expectancy — and is still going strong. If Gunther the German Shepherd makes it to 15, he is considered geriatric. Is it true that dogs age seven years for every human year? She says it may have stemmed from an observation that dogs lived to be 10 years old, while humans lived to be 70 on average. It is true that dogs age much faster than humans, but the extent and speed of this process depends on many factors. Larger dogs tend to age faster and have shorter life expectancies than smaller dogs. The AKC divides dogs into four size categories: Small 20 pounds or under Medium 21 to 50 pounds Large 51 to pounds Giant Over pounds An adult male German Shepherd usually weighs between 66 and 88 pounds, and an adult female generally weighs between 49 and 73 pounds. Then, until they reach the age of five, they age four years every year. Large dogs that are over five years old then generally age five or six years every year, and a German Shepherd that lives to be 14 is comparable to a human of .How many puppies can German Shepherds have? It is born completely helpless and depends on its mother for everything; it even needs her help to go to the bathroom. The puppy will typically start to crawl when it is a week old, and its eyes will open a few days later. The first baby teeth emerge when the puppy is two weeks old, and it will start going to the bathroom on its own around the same time. The socialization period lasts from the third to the twelfth week. Then, when the puppy can move, see, and hear, it needs to learn the social skills that will enable it to successfully interact with humans and other dogs. However, it still needs to stay with its mother during this time, so she can teach it proper dog behavior and other vital life skills. German Shepherds this age should also be introduced to humans to begin getting used to their presence. They will generally begin playing with their littermates and their humans when they are about four weeks old. Puppies that are at least seven weeks old can then be housebroken. The following video covers the growth and development of a German Shepherd puppy from when it is seven weeks old to six months old. The owner noted such physical changes as increasingly erect ears and darkening fur. The juvenile period lasts from three to six months and ends when the dog reaches sexual maturity. By this age, the puppy has all of its baby teeth. The puppy will be old enough for obedience school towards the end of the juvenile period. By the time a German Shepherd is six months old , it will look mostly like an adult dog, but it has not yet finished growing. It will have reached about 70 percent of its adult height and weight, and it will also have all of its adult teeth. German Shepherds, at this age should be spayed or neutered unless their owner plans to breed them. Health A healthy German shepherd will produce many healthy puppies compared to an unhealthy one. Always take your GSD to a vet clinic to confirm that she is in a healthy state. This is because the larger ones have a bigger carrying capacity. Diet Diet plays a crucial role in influencing the size of the litter of a GSD. Feed her a balanced diet rather than only kibble throughout. Age German shepherds are more fertile between the ages of two to three years. If she gets older than that age, she is less likely to deliver a large litter. Individual Genetic Factors If a German shepherd delivers a large first litter the chances are that she will do the same in the second and the third litter. Gestation period for a GSD Their pregnancies take around 64 days which is a little more than other dogs. This is influenced by their bigger size. What to Expect of a Pregnant German Shepherd Change in Appetite The appetite might increase or decrease depending on the stage of pregnancy. She can show signs of morning sickness like vomiting. In case of a reduced appetite, you should try to feed her her favorite meal. Decrease in Activity If your GSD feels exhausted most of the time, she will be taking a nap more than usual. If your dog likes sleeping a lot, this sign might go unnoticed. Unless you have confirmed that she is pregnant, sleeping a lot should be seen as a red flag especially for active dogs. Behavior Change Behavior change will depend on an individual dog. Some German shepherds will seek extra attention and will be around you most of the time, while others will like isolation and will be hostile whenever you get closer to them. Her abdomen will enlarge, though this is among the last signs of pregnancy. This should not worry you as she will be back to her normal size once she delivers. The nipples might get dark red in color. Other times the milk might leak in the late stage of pregnancy. Frequent Urination A female German shepherd can increase the no of times she urinates during pregnancy. Sometimes it can be territory marking. She can pee anywhere, in the living room, the seat, or in the corner of a room. Nesting Behavior During the last stage of pregnancy, she will start preparing a place for the expected puppies. She will shred anything from blankets, newspapers, or clothes and keep them in her nest. Proper Feeding Feed your expectant German shepherd a balanced diet. Buy her the best dog food you can afford. It is advisable to increase the quantity of food you feed her. Instead of giving her a lot of food at once, divide the food into smaller portions and give it to her many times. This is to ensure that that the mother and the unborn puppies are healthy. Give Her space Due to hormonal changes, your dog will have mood swings. If she is not willing to eat or play do not compel her. Just give her space to be herself. Whelping Box A whelping box is set on the last stage of German shepherd pregnancy. It is a safe and comfortable place equipped with all the necessities needed for safe delivery. The place should be noise-free. Bottom Line German shepherds are caring parents. In rare cases, German shepherds eat their newborns. Be watchful to avoid such instances. Related Posts:. How many puppies do German shepherds have in their first litter? She is so loved by our kids they just had to include her in the party! Violet is currently recovering from getting spayed and is doing great! She is my little shadow that follows me around the house and is constantly wanting to play fetch with her tennis ball. She has been the perfect dog for our family, especially for our kids, she is so good about letting them give her LOTS of hugs and kisses something she learned from the start with Jenna no doubt. We love her so much and are so excited for the happiness she will always bring our family. Thanks so much to 4E Kennels! I can't go 10 feet without someone stopping me to pet him! I've heard, 'That's the cutest dog I've ever seen in my life' several times, and true to LA, 'You should put that dog in the movies! I feel like I can only mess this up by not following what I'm learning from the books you've recommended. I'm taking him all over the place and introducing him to new experiences all the time and he is just amazing. Thank you so much! We lost our Goldendoodle last year and were not really looking for a new pup yet. A friend mentioned 4E Kennels and we thought we would "just look" at the new puppies. Well, once we met Jeanette and her family and saw the amazing conditions her puppies were being raised in, there were 27 at the time! Jeanette treats each puppy as her own, grooming them to be amazing dogs and companions. We were amazed at the time she took with each puppy and how amazingly clean her home was! The puppies were definately treated like family, raised in a loving, safe environment. Even with 27 puppies, Jeanette could tell you each ones quirks and personalities. She worked tirelessly to make sure each puppy was socialized and that they were placed in the home best suited to their individiual temperaments. She provided weekly updates and nightly puppy massages that not only made the puppies feel secure, but helped us attach even more to our new babies until we could pick them up. We are grateful for the gift she has given our family. A beautiful, happy, loving puppy that has already built a special place in our hearts and family. I am a set back and wait kind of girl. With this being said our family would like to thank not only you but your entire family for introducing us to all your dogs and Golden doodles. We have always had a rescue or re-homed dog. But with Frank being diagnosed with dog allergies we set out to look for a hyper allergenic dog. We have never picked out a puppy let alone gone through a breeder so we did not know what to expect. You and your entire family put so much into each and every dog and puppy. From the very start of our journey and still today you are there to help answer questions and provide great suggestions with our Tank Duke. We should all be so lucky to work with a Jenna! Hi Jeanette, I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all of your help during our adoption process for Buddy. I did extensive research on breeders and found you to be exceptional, far beyond any other breeder I have come across. Kyle and I had both lost our dogs his golden retriever and my teacup poodle and after some time, decided to get a goldendoodle together because it would be a hypoallergenic mixture of our two breeds. Adopting Buddy has been such an amazing experience. I'm not sure if anyone else would have put up with all of my texting and emailing. After all, it had been over 15 years since Kyle and I dealt with puppies, and I was super excited. When adopting a puppy, it was a great feeling to be so involved in the process that I felt as if I had carried Buddy myself. From the moment Holly tied, to the movement of puppies in her tummy, to the birth of Buddy's siblings, and finally, the birth of Buddy lucky 13; the baby of the litter. It didn't stop there either. You kept me updated on feedings, play time, funny moments, and everything else a future mom should know about her baby. THIS is what makes you a great breeder. You truly care about your puppies, and you also care about the future parents who are so patiently waiting. You were there to help choose the perfect puppy that matches our lifestyle while being perfectly honest about the personalities about each one. To be honest, any one of your pups would do great. You give them the best start they can get from your Essential 7 and Biosensor exercises, not to mention plenty of socialization. Buddy is sooo smart. At 10 weeks, he knew how to sit, paw, down, up, speak, spin, and kiss. Only 10 weeks!!! Thank you for everything you have done for us, and for Buddy. You will definitely always have a place in Buddy's heart even through videos, he jumps up when he hears pup-pup-pup. THIS is a true adoption.I felt a part of it every step of the way. And most importantly, thank you for Buddy. He is a wonderful little boy, and he is already growing up to be such a smart, social, we'll - balanced happy dog. We have searched high and low, as I have wanted a Goldendoodle for over a decade now. So their referral held a lot of weight for us. We watched for a few months, and then placed our deposit in the spring of .Jeanette was very patient with us as we decided between an F1 and an F1b. We could have easily chosen any single puppy from this dozen. We had the 8th pick, and still had so many perfect options for our family. These puppies are so well cared for, socialized from birth, exposed to a multitude of firsts to make them incredibly well rounded, and their temperaments are unmatched. Our 12 year old son adores Cooper and Newton , and easily can walk Cooper on leash. Cooper is a true gentle giant! Thank you Jeanette and family for continuing to breed such top quality Goldendoodles, and for taking all your new doodle families into your hearts! We have been blessed by what you do. Much love, Colorado Love Claire with all my heart and soul. People stop and ask me questions about her all the time! If I had a nickel for every time I heard "Wow! Claire and I would both be rich! I always point out to people interested in a puppy that they should chose 4E Kennels because they don't just breed dogs for looks and profit like most other breeders, especially the ones now popping up all over California. So while making cute puppies is apart of the job, making sure they are intelligent, social, and have amazing dispositions is Jeanette's' top priority. Jeanette is dedicated to improving the lives of other people with her very special pups. She is resolute in making sure these puppies have an enriched environment with lots of play, exposure and love so they can go on to become the smartest puppies; ready to help and love their future humans! I remember receiving videos from Jeanette directly prior to picking up Claire, and she was either introducing the puppies to swimming in a kiddie pool, or having their first interaction with an umbrella.Just always above and beyond my expectations of what a breeder is. I don't even think it's fair to cal Jeanette a "breeder". She is more of a doggie angel. Now that I have Claire I know that her start at 4E Kennels helped shape her into the confident, cuddly city pup she is today! My husband and I welcomed a new doodle from 4E Kennels into our family in January .We did a lot of research to find the right breeder and as soon as we met Jeanette we knew immediately she was the one. She has such love for her work and all of her dogs. She is incredibly knowledgeable, thoughtful and caring. And, her program to help with the growth and development of the puppies is spectacular. This not only helps each puppy for the rest of their lives but it also ensures when you take home your new puppy that you will be off to an amazing start. Our doodle is an absolute joy, he is so smart and has the most wonderful personality. We will always be grateful to Jeanette for helping bring him into our lives. If you are looking for a doodle to welcome into your family, look no further. The love, care, and attention she provides to all of her pups were apparent from the first conversation we had with her. It was evident from the very beginning of the adoption process that Jeanette's heart and soul are deeply invested in all of her puppies. We did extensive research on breeders and found 4E Kennels to be far beyond any other breeder we come across. We were especially impressed when we took our puppy to her first vet appointment and the veterinarian told us that in the entire span of her career, she had never been as impressed with any breeder's paperwork as much as she was with 4E Kennels — the vet told us that due to our pup's great state of health and exceptional temperament, she could tell right away that our Pickles had been loved and well cared for. We are forever thankful to Jeanette, who works tirelessly to make sure each of her puppies is socialized and very loved. Thank you Jeanette! With the love, care, and energy I've seen you put into your puppies, I knew I had to. I've always believed people are brought into our lives at the right time. We had been interested in getting a puppy, and after meeting you and twenty seven of your puppies, we knew that day that we had found our breeder! We immediately trusted you and put a deposit down on a future litter. Little did I know at the time, but I also signed onto endless support and a plethora of knowledge as you helped guide me through what I didn't know about raising a puppy. I was also gaining a 4E Kennels 4Ever Goldendoole family, which gives me the opportunity to keep in touch with Lucy's littermates, share puppy raising strategies, and watch other Goldendoodles grow up. Before bringing Lucy home, we loved being updated on Holly's pregnancy, weekly puppy photos and videos, and the opportunity to visit and play with the puppies as needed. I am fascinated by the tender nurturing you provide to each and every one of your puppies, from the biosensor exercises, to the Essential 7, to exposing them to all sorts of people, animals, and situations. All of these early experiences help to mold your puppies into well-rounded, well-adjusted, and stable dogs. Along with all of this critical early care you provide, we also appreciate your placement skills in helping us to find the right puppy for our family. You have this incredible gift of knowing which puppy will best suite each family. Even though Lucy picked me, I know you would have picked her for us too. With her spunk, energy, silliness, sweetness, and intelligence, we couldn't love her more! She's tolerant, loves everyone she meets, and makes us laugh on a daily basis. Best of all, she loves her older Doodle brother and provides him with the companionship he needs when we are not at home. Lucy is now nine months old, and I've held off on writing a testimony. There are no words to express the adoration I have for her or the appreciation I feel for you and 4E Kennels. Thank you for your love, support, guidance, and friendship. You are truly amazing at what you do! Love, Heather and Matthew Oney I wanted to write and thank you for all of your help and support throughout the adoption process. We are so lucky to have found such an incredible breeder. Adopting Bailey has been a memorable and amazing experience for our family. It was very obvious to us that you put a tremendous amount of time and work into caring for your puppies. You made sure that our family was a good match for our puppy and we can't thank you enough for your input. I will continue to recommend you to anyone I know who is considering getting a puppy. Sincerely, The Armstrongs If you're looking for the perfect golden doodle to bring into your home, then look no further than 4E Kennels! My Baileigh is now nine months old and a very sweet little pup. Her temperament is so calm and her intelligence continues to grow each day. She is picking up commands faster than any dog I have ever owned. I know that it because of her early days with Jeanette that I have such a smart, calm, mature nine month old doodle. When I called Jeanette, I let her know that I was looking for a doodle with a calm, cuddly, and loyal personality. She eagerly explained all the personalities of the remaining puppies and suggested one that she thought would be my perfect match! Once I met Baileigh, I knew there was no way I could have picked a better golden doodle for myself. Upon meeting Baileigh, Jeanette, and the entire 4E family, Jeanette let me know that when Baileigh was born, she was born blue and not breathing. If it had not been for Jeanette's quick action of mouth to mouth and her watchful eye over my pup for the next twelve hours I don't think that I would have my sweet cuddle bug today. Jeanette's love and devotion to not only Baileigh, but all the puppies born at 4E Kennels is a true testament to the quality of care these dogs receive before leaving to their forever homes. I was definitely skeptical about getting a dog from a breeder and was giving up hope. I had evaluated several other breeders, but was uncomfortable with what I was seeing. It seemed like other breeders were definitely in it for the money. I immediately could tell by their website that 4e kennels was so different! It appeared that Jeanette authentically cared not only for her dogs and puppies, but also for her clients as well. The first email I sent to Jeanette was simply that I was looking for a support dog. She quickly responded and was so open and supportive, I felt blessed to have met her. She helped me find the perfect puppy for my personality and has Claire been such a life changer. I feel fully supported and would gladly recommend 4e kennels to anyone looking for a healthy, loyal and loving dog that also comes with an awesome 4e kennels family. She goes above and beyond what many breeders do, she assists you in finding the right puppy for your lifestyle based on family members, needs and desires in a dog. Stella literally walked right into my lap the first time we met her. Stella had less than 10 accidents before she was fully potty trained — how many people can say that? We are blessed to have an amazing dog in our life, and everyday thankful for all the work, love and devotion Jeanette puts in to 4E Kennels. We got Honey at 8 weeks and Jeanette was spot on with her personality making our Doodle a perfect match for our home. Honey has been healthy and growing like a wild fire! We are so happy with our Doodle that we are on the reservation list for a second. Thanks 4E Kennels for adopting Honey into our family! We wanted the best of both worlds with little shedding and lots of love and boy have we gotten it! She is wonderful with my two toddler boys and little Pomeranian. Plays with her mouth open, but never closes it on anyone. We decided to get our golden doodle at a very hectic time in our lives. We have been expecting our third child, moving and traveling all in her first 9 months, but she has taken it all in stride. I love how good she is for me when I groom her too. Sometimes she even falls asleep!!! I can definitely attest to the fact that 4eKennels has been far superior to other breeders we've seen or used in the past. It was so special watching the litter grow up and having pictures of our girl from 1 week old on! Jeanette is always there as well as other local doodle owners to help me with any questions I have ever had! When I saw my first goldendoodle, I saw a picture of one off of google. So cute that it probably was a stuffed animal dog. Immediately I started researching goldendoodle breeders. Day after day I would find a breeder, look at their pictures, and was always unhappy with what I saw and the lack of information I was given on the webpage or phone. Then I found Jeanette at 4eKennels. I just love how much information Jeanette puts on her website. She described every single detail from how to purchase one of these darling puppies, to the type of coat you are looking for, to describing the mother and father of each litter, and so much more. I was so impressed by her ability to know exactly what I wanted. I say this, because, I told her the type of dog I was looking for, and she added me to the litter waiting list I needed to make my dream dog come true. She added me to the list for Lainey and Romeos litter. I remember the night Lainey had her 10 puppies! She instantly emailed the group on the waiting list, letting us know Lainey and the babies were healthy and happy. From that day on, I would receive at least one email a week updating me on the litter. My ability to go and visit these puppies while they were with Jeanette and Lainey was, well, expensive! So, Jeanette sent me, and the rest of the waiting list, a weekly video showing the puppies playing and taking different types of test, like obstacle courses. She sent me information on each dog and their personalities, energy levels, confidence, pack drive, and so much more. Since I was not able to ever see the puppies in person, Jeanette made me have the ability to see the pups which helped the choosing process so much easier. My finance and I now have Messi, which is the most well behaved, loving, wavy hair, cutest puppy alive! Thanks to Jeanette I got exactly what I wanted. I say it loud and proud, 4eKennels! Best breeder in the world! Just as our first doodle, he has been a great puppy. We know that Jeanette gives them the best start with both health and early training, this makes transitioning to your home very smooth. Jeanette acts as a matchmaker matching you with a dog that will fit you and your family. Jax has fit in perfectly and it has only been a few days, no surprise though, ALL 4E dogs are amazing. She is so smart, loving, funny, friendly, easy going, athletic, playful, dog. She has become my shadow and is always by my side. She always makes me smile, and her intelligence amazes me everyday. We are working on our therapy dog test, which I absolutely believe will be so fitting for her. She loves everyone, and usually ends up making friends wherever we go. We are also on our 10th week of Agility training, she is doing wonderfully. These dogs become who they are because of the hands-on hardwork and dedication that Jeanette, Jenna and their team do each and everyday. Thank you all, we couldn't be more happy with our two doods! Last December we welcomed the newest member of our family, Noodle. My girlfriend Christine had wanted a goldendoodle for a few years. I was just learning about the breed last year, but quickly realized how great of a breed goldendoodles are. We could tell that this was a special pet that had great roots and temperament. The owners told us he was from 4eKennels in Pahrump, Nevada. We were pleasantly surprised to see that the 4e website had plenty of amazing content. There was also a Facebook page which provided live updates on the various litters, which was a cool and unique bonus. Her communication and service was impeccable; she could be a superstar in any industry she chose! Jeanette provided accurate and specific information for every question we had on the breed and litter. If we had a specific special request to see how much each dog weighed, Jeanette was happy and quick to provide. I want to say a little bit about the 4e facility itself. The doodle ranch just blew us away in size and quality. There are three facilities: nursery, adult housing for poodle males, and adult housing for golden retriever females. The impressive ranch also has plenty of romping area so that each dog lives the dream on a big fun yard with plenty of stimulation. The nursery had separate sections for each group of litters. This made our visit to the nursery fun and easy, even with lots of future doodle parents coming to visit all at once. Also, the selection process was quick and easy, as Jeanette plans the meetings extremely well in terms of time and organization. There are so many good things to say about the company itself and services they provide. Their donations to service dog organizations are wonderful, kind, and admirable. We were happy to know that some of Noodle's litter mates are now serving as diabetic alert dogs, and other 4e pups are now helping Veterans. Christine has grown up with dogs her entire life, and Noodle is far beyond the most behaved, smart, and darn cute pup she has ever had. The conditioning and temperament that Jeanette provided the puppies the first 8 weeks is so invaluable. We were astonished to see how well behaved and healthy our puppy was from the get go. I never thought I could love a dog so much. Now that he is part of our family, I don't even see him as a dog but more as our little baby. We look forward to waking up with him by our side, smiling and waiting for us to play with him. Or when we come home from work and he's been napping all day, just seeing his cute little face looking up at us is a joy that can't be put into words. We are thankful to have gotten to work with this company and be a part of the 4e Family! We raise high-quality Mini Labradoodles as well as a few other breeds.
