Once again, be prepared for anything! Chocolate Colors Now we get to the fun part; the color combinations! This is where things get interesting. Partis can come in any color, with either color nose. Some are mostly white, while some have lots of color and less white. The ones that are mostly white are called "Extreme" Partis. The variations are endless and unique, like a snowflake. The colors, such as chocolate, on a parti can change in the same ways that they would on a solid dog. Often confused with "Parti" is a dog with heavy white mismarks or a Tuxedo. White mismarks can be very small or very heavy, or anywhere in-between. The puppy is born either Black or Chocolate and immediately begins to lose the dark color, revealing anything from a cream to a red underneath! If your mixed breed has a more typical Pug-nose, though, you should be aware that they may suffer from certain breathing issues. Mention that your dog is half Pug to your vet as this breed can suffer from vaccination sensitivities. As such, your dog may have to remain under observation after getting their vaccines to ensure that no side effects occur. If your dog has the protruding eyes of a Pug, they may be at higher risk of certain eye conditions as well. In case they take after their German Shepherd parents, this will not be an issue to worry about. It can be difficult to pinpoint which dog food is best for a mixed breed such as the Shug. This is why it is a good idea to speak to your vet. They may be able to provide greater insight into which food may benefit your dog in particular. Always choose a high-quality dog food that sources high-quality ingredients. There should be no fillers, artificial flavors, or colorings in the food. Furthermore, there should be an appropriate balance between protein, carbs, fats, vitamins, and minerals. You will need to slow this down through their diet. It is best to keep treats and snacks to a minimum as well. The level of activity for your Shug will depend on several things, including energy levels and size. If your pooch has taken after their Pug parent, they will require a lower amount of physical activity. In case the German Shepherd traits are dominant, then they may need more exercise. To determine just how much exercise your Shug needs, start by talking them on a fifteen to twenty-minute walk and gauge their activity levels after. If your dog appears to be energetic afterward, you can slowly increase how much physical activity that they get. With enough exercise, your dog will be satiated but not overtired. If your dog is too tired to do anything after their walk, then you need to cut down on how much physical activity they are getting. Your pup can be a bit reluctant to get exercise. Adequate exercise makes it easier for them to maintain their weight, while also keeping them engaged and happy. Both the parent breeds shed a great deal and the same will apply to your Shug as well. It is still fairly simple to groom this mixed breed, though. Regular brushing — about two to three times a week will keep the shedding under control. To cut down on shedding even further, you should use an undercoat rake. This works to dislodge any loose fur that is trapped in the second layer. As the weather gets warmer, you may notice your Shug shedding more than usual. At this point, start brushing them every day. This will prevent the fur from getting everywhere in your home. Add a de-shedding brush to your grooming routine for greater efficiency. Your Shug will not need a bath that often. Once a month or once every two months will be fine. Unless your dog appears to be dirty or smells bad, you can hold off on the bath. Over bathing your dog can cause dry or sensitive skin. If your Shug has the classic Pug wrinkles around its face, you need to clean this area with care. Always make sure that the skin here is dried properly or it may develop an infection. Shugs that take after Pugs in both appearance and size may be more prone to gum disease as well. Even if your pooch has a thicker coat, it is unlikely that they will do well in very cold climates. At the same time, Shugs is quite sensitive to heat as well, so a moderate climate works best. For instance, keep them indoors if the weather is very warm or very cold. In cooler months, you may want to wrap up your pup before taking them outside. During the summer, avoid taking them outside when the sun is at its hottest. Instead, exercise your Shug early in the morning or later on in the evening. These dogs can live in apartments, but you need to make sure that they are given adequate amounts of exercise. Take them out several times a day so that they can work off any excess energy. These dogs should be easy to train. They are intelligent and if the German Shepherd genes are strong enough, they are willing workers as well. Despite this, you have to watch out for the stubborn and willful Pug streak. This can make training a bit more challenging. Starting from the moment that your Shug is brought home, though, can be helpful. Instead, use positive reinforcement to help your Shug behave properly.
