While both make wonderful family pets, the improved health and longevity of the English Cream Goldens has earned them a special place in our hearts, and we want to give you a chance to enjoy the boundless love and companionship these amazing dogs have to offer. All Golden Retrievers are descended from a line originally bred in Scotland in the late 's, and they come in a spectrum of colors ranging from pale cream to golden red. The other nicknames are used by Americans to differentiate the American Goldens from those bred to conform to the European breed standards. In addition to their distinctive pale cream coat, the European standards typically produce Goldens with a blockier head, slightly shorter frame, and a more mellow temperament than their American counterparts. We love the English Cream Goldens for their striking good looks and gentle, intelligent and eager-to-please disposition. This generally affords them longer, healthier lives and is most likely due to the greater genetic diversity among the European bloodlines. Our emphasis when breeding is on optimal health and temperament of our puppies. European bloodlines provide greater genetic diversity for improved health and longevity. Our golden retrievers and their puppies are raised with love as pets and family members. Our Program Personality We understand that each English Cream Golden Retriever puppy has their own unique personality and temperament traits, including assertiveness, motivation, energy level, tenderheartedness, intensity, and focus. Looks just like his dad! Thor is growing and developing beautifully! We are so pleased with our sweet, gorgeous boy--he's a delight for our entire family! Not quite 6 months yet and he's growing like crazy. Everywhere we go, folks compliment his looks--especially his lovely conformation, strong lines and gorgeous coat and coloring. By the way, he is starting to show some silver under the black coat in his neck and shoulders. We think he's gonna look more like his Daddy through his body with his facial coloring favoring his Great Granddad and your Duke. What I want to share most with you is the request we received last week from our trainer. Our trainer called and said that working with Thor is an absolute pleasure for him and training dogs like Thor is his passion. Alan went on to say that mostly he's brought in to help older folks and folks with little lap dogs that have house training issues or need help with an undesirable behavior or two but will never really have a well trained dog. He rarely has an opportunity to work with great breeds like GSD's these days or with owners who practice and do all the homework to make their training experience more successful and their relationships with their companions even better. Alan went on to say that while we will have a very "good dog," Thor has the potential to be a really "great dog! Anyway, Alan said that training dogs like Thor is why he's been training dogs for over 20 years and he would love the opportunity to work even more with Thor and wanted to know if we would allow him to train Thor for free a couple hours each week! Thank you for all you're doing for this wonderful breed! Wishing you a great week! We are looking for good homes only, preferably with people who have experience with German Shepherds. Located in Limerick. Mother in last picture. Saber is a certified therapy dog as well - he loves people and loves to visit. .Saber at Three Below doing therapy and some casual shots Starting to fill out! He has had reds and tans too! Good thing she never looks at my websight or she'd kill me lol: Michelle and saber winning it all st the fair news paper article Saber doing agility walked right on the equipment first time Sabers brother at only 8 months old. .Like this male Saber consistantly produces bigger and better then himself Sabers 2 year old brother and letter from owners Good Morning Robin, I figured since Max just turned 2 I'd update you. He was born on 17 Dec , to Blaze and Ziva. Had him at the vet's on Monday and he weighed in at pounds, so his weight has been pretty steady for the past few months, but he has grown taller. Currently he likes to rest his chin on the dining room table when he watches me on the laptop. Always ready in case there is an opportunity to be pet. Loves riding in the car, and gets along great with other dogs, but still apprehensive with new people, or with someone he hasn't seen in a while. I always bring treats with me to help with the introductions. Loves going with me to different businesses where allowed and has never been a problem. Great on hikes, and he carries his own backpack and supplies. The picture was taken this morning while he was waiting for his breakfast. As you can see, the silver is starting to really show. We get stopped all the time when we're out and about because of his looks, and I'm always asked if it's ok for them to take his picture because they've never seen another German Shepherd like him. I've had too many offers to sell him to count. The vet's office is really surprised at his disposition because he takes the poking and proding without incident considering his size. As always there are people worried about him because of his size, but they soon learn their fears are unfounded. Overall I'd have to say he's been a great dog. Saber sons from his first litter out of a very small female! Both at 10 months old are over lbs and 30 " high at the shoulder. The rare tri color sable male is lbs the black and silver at 10 months old. When we take them for walks they strut like the world is looking at them. I wanted to get another puppy before he passed away, so that our older dog could help raise the puppy. After a while, I found your website, and looked through it, repeatedly. I was impressed by what you detailed. Large GSDs, with calm temperaments, good health, and long lives. I then researched your reputation. I am a trained investigator, being suspicious is a career hazard. I could only find one, single complaint.I wasn't really looking for a "breed standard" GSD.I was looking for more. Another white shepherd, with a straight back and good hips. I called you, and discussed what I was looking for.A large white GSD, with a good protective drive, lower prey drive, and a mellow disposition. Well, it is a year later. And we have gotten far more that what I had hoped for. Physically, he is an amazing example of a German Shepherd. He is a solid pounds, with incredible muscle tone, and a massive head. He has yet to start filling out. I expect him to be at least pounds. In all honesty, I have been a bit startled by how quickly he grew, and how large he has become. My veterinarian, who has been practicing for 35 years, has remarked that she has never seen another dog like him. She is very impressed with his bone structure, his stance, and how proportional he is. His strong, straight back; his massive head, his size, and his strength are all things that she has noted. She has suggested that I breed him, because she believes that it would be a shame not to pass his genetics on.He is, quite simply. When we take him out in public, he creates quite a stir. People routinely approach us to compliment him, and how beautiful he is. He has been described as "gorgeous", "regal", and "majestic". The fact that our eight year old can control him in public only adds to people's fascination with him. He is very obedient, and was easy to train. He is very intelligent. He is affectionate, very loving, and very playful. Despite his size, he is quite gentle with those he loves. His protective drive is very appropriate. He is wary of strangers until properly introduced. He physically places himself between my children and other people. After being taught by our older shepherd, he now regularly patrols the perimeter of our property. I have included a few pictures. Unfortunately, it is hard to get good angles of him, because he thinks my taking pictures is some sort of game. The pictures truly do not do him any justice. We will be picking up another puppy from you. Quite frankly, I think that you have managed to produce amazing examples of what GSDs should be.Large and powerful; extremely intelligent, loyal and gentle; superior health and longevity, with a very appropriate protective drive. You have surpassed all of my expectations, and our family thanks you.Andrew Sadowski.
Both height and weight can differ depending on genetics and the dog. However, most Boxers fall into this range. You may be able to get away with a smaller crate for a smaller or female Boxer, but a 42 inch crate is safe. The biggest mistake owners make with crate purchases is buying a size for the puppy. There are literally tens of thousands of happy customers that give it an average of 4. Best Features The Midwest homes iCrate is all about dog safety. And when it come to your Boxer, we agree with their priorities. The Midwest Homes iCrate went with dual slide secured bolt latches to safely secure your Boxer in the crate. If you frequently transport your dog with the crate , this feature is for you! The iCrate is built with a collapsible design in mind. The crate also comes with a standard divider panel, which is amazing for large crates. Giving your Boxer puppy so much cage space can cause anxiety and stress. The divider panel lets you adjust the crate space according to their current size. And finally, the removable plastic tray allows you to quickly clean up the bottom of the crate in case of an accident occurring. The Cons The iCrate is our number one pick for Boxer crates. But if we had to really nitpick, we would suggest a thicker frame for the crate. However, thicker wires for the crate frame provides more peace of mind. To learn more about the Midwest Homes iCrate, check it out at Amazon here. He loves it! The Amazon Basics dog crate is exactly what you would expect from the e-commerce tech conglomerate. The only differences are minor cosmetics of the frame. Though double doors are an option, we highly recommend getting this for your Boxer. The Amazon Basics crate also comes with a standard divider panel. It allows you to adjust the space of the crate as your Boxer grows into full adult size. The removable plastic tray is essential to making your life easier. Finally, the Amazon Basics also has a collapsible design. Consequently, we have a hard time finding the cons for this product. The chances of your Boxer getting out of this is slim. However, there are Boxers that are more aggressive than usual. In which case, you may want a heavy duty dog crate. The best feature is the double doors…its super convenient and nice. Great price, great buy! However, it lacks some features that we absolutely love. Nearly two thousand happy customers have given this crate a 4 and a half stars out of 5! Best Features The New World crate is manufactured with high quality metal construction. This ensures your crate will be extremely lightweight and sturdy. Like the other dog crates, the New World crate also uses a dual slide bolt latch to secure your Boxer. If your Boxer is a digger, the bottom tray latches securely to the cage to prevent any movement. Fold this up in a minute or less! The Cons Something that I really wish this crate had is a standard diver panel. You can still buy a divider panel from Midwest Homes if you decide you need one down the line. Additionally, we would have liked to see thicker wirings on the frame of this crate. To learn more about the New World crate and check out the current price, click here. I bought it for a Boxer mix, and he has plenty of space to turn, stand or even stretch. I can even put a water bowl in the corner and it never gets spilled. Love the double door…highly recommend the option. It definitely lacks some great crate features that we think works with a Boxer. However, for the price, we can ignore this solid dog crate. Given the quality build and solid frame, we still love this dog crate for your Boxer dog. Lets see why this crate takes the last spot on our short list of best Boxer dog crates. Best Features The Carlson Pet crate is crafted using only heavy duty steel for extra durability. Another great feature is the removable plastic tray. They really make it easy for you and your dog. We also wish this crate came with a double door option. A 42 inch dog crate can be big and two doors allows easier access to your dog, water bowl, toys or whatever you put inside. These are all great features, but not having them is not necessarily a deal breaker. We still love this dog crate and you can save a few bucks opting for the Carlson Pet dog crate. If you want to learn more about the Carlson Dog Crate, check it out at Amazon. This dog crate is the same quality for a third of the price! I ordered a large for my boxer puppy and honestly it was way bigger than i expected! I still love it and my boxer loves it too…highly recommend this for any dog owners!! Let us know which crate you use! And if you own or owned any of these, tell us know what you think in the comments section below. Post navigation. This should provide your boxer with enough space to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably without feeling cramped. For Boxers, who are medium to large-sized dogs with a robust and muscular build, the crate size needs to reflect their stature. They average between pounds for females and pounds for males, making either a inch crate size a fitting choice. Also, consider factors like ventilation, comfort, and the ease with which you can clean the crate. Looking for a crate for your Boxer? For height, measure from the top of their head to the ground. Once you have these measurements, add inches to each dimension to ensure comfort and room to move. Measuring your Boxer accurately is crucial for their well-being. Using a tape measure is the most straightforward way to get accurate dimensions. When measuring length, ensure your dog is standing straight and not slouching or stretching. Measure in a relaxed posture, capturing their natural size. Adding a few extra inches to the measured dimensions is not about giving them excess space, but about ensuring they can comfortably stand, turn, and lie down without any restriction. For Boxers, who are inherently active and playful, this extra space is even more crucial. You might find that some Boxers prefer a snugger fit, while others enjoy a bit more space. Puppies, while small now, will grow quickly. Activity Level Boxers are known for their high energy and playfulness. When choosing a crate, consider one with enough room for them to stretch and play with a toy. Crates with slightly larger dimensions than the standard recommendation may be suitable for particularly active Boxers. Separation Anxiety in Boxers Boxers have a tendency to suffer from separation anxiety. This makes it crucial to select crates specially designed to cater to this. These crates are typically more robust, with a comforting design that provides a safe and secure environment, alleviating some of the stress they feel when left alone. This will ensure it stands the test of time and survives any potential chewing or scratching. Additionally, the positioning and size of crate openings can influence how connected your Boxer feels to the outside world, potentially reducing feelings of isolation. Ease of Cleaning Boxers, with their playful nature, can sometimes make a mess in their crate. Opting for crates that you can easily access will make the job much more manageable, ensuring your Boxer always has a clean space to retreat to. That being said, the real way to ensure your dog is best in this size, and not one slightly smaller, is to measure them. So, your choice of crate, along with providing the right amount of space sufficient yet not too much is essential. Either way, best wishes on your journey to finding the perfect crate for your beloved Boxer! Jeremy I am a practiced pet owner with decades of experience owning a number of different pets. Comes with carrying handle and case Reinforced seams and corners for durability Includes rear accessory pockets and water bottle holder Soft sided crates are great for car travel and outdoor excursions like picnics and camping trips, as long as your dog is properly crate-trained. This crate from Precision Pet Products is perfect for Boxers, with plenty of vents, an attractive and easy-to-clean design, and a sturdy metal frame that prevents it from collapsing on your pup. Here are a few top tips for crate training a Boxer puppy that are sure to help you as you potty train your dog. Using one of its favorite blankets to line the crate and putting some of its preferred toys inside, for example, can help it get used to the crate. We recommend finding an area of your home that is out-of-the-way, so that your Boxer can have its own special place to rest and relax. Leave it in until it starts to whine, then let it out. As your Boxer gets more used to the idea of crating, it will become more comfortable with it — and eventually, it will actually want to use its crate! It should be a place of comfort and happiness — not a punishment. If you punish your dog by crating it, your Boxer will start to associate feelings of negativity with its crate, which is not a good thing. This can help with separation anxiety and feelings of nervousness related to you leaving the house. If you need more tips, we recommend doing some online research about proper crating methods, or consulting with a local dog trainer or animal behaviorist! Take a look at a few common FAQs below. How long should I crate train my Boxer puppy at night? You can keep your Boxer puppy in its crate all night, but you will need to take regular bathroom breaks about every 3 hours until your puppy is about 9 weeks old. Once your Boxer puppy is weeks old, you can usually get by with a single bathroom break, about 4 hours after you go to bed. Then, over the next few weeks and months, you can start extending this time — until you finally get to a full hours, and you no longer have to let your Boxer out for a bathroom break at night. For this reason, you should never put your Boxer into its crate while wearing a collar, particularly if nobody will be at home for a long period of time. Is crating cruel or harmful to my Boxer? Not at all! How long can I keep my Boxer in its crate? Puppies should not be left in their crates for more than about 4 hours at a time, at a maximum. Adult Boxers should be let out after about 8 hours. Remember, your Boxer needs time to explore, relax, stretch its legs, and have fun — just like you! How can I stop my Boxer from chewing on its crate? Throwing a few chew toys into the crate can help. Most dogs would much rather chew on a strap of rawhide than metal bars or plastic crates. You can also buy anti-chew spray from your local pet supply store. This spray tastes nasty to dogs, but is harmless. Spraying it on the cage will prevent your dog from chewing. A bit of behavioral training can also help. Over time, this will help your dog learn not to chew. We hope this information has been helpful, and answered some of your questions about crate training your Boxer! Conclusion Choosing a great Boxer crate for your dog should be a snap with this guide. Introduction The boxer is a well-known dog worldwide and has its origin in Munich, Germany where the first boxer exhibition dog show was held in .It is said that the boxer was bred from the ancient bulldog and Bullenbeisser. Today, they become one of the most popular dogs in the USA, ranking 8th in .Boxers spread throughout Europe in the 19th century and they entered the United States around the 20th century being recognized by the American Kennel Club in .In the past Boxers were also appreciated for their powerful jaws, which led to their involvement in military work during WWI. They performed many tasks such as guarding, attacking and even delivering messages. After the war, many of them were taken home by the soldiers. Today, they act as both guard dog and companion at home. We often see this boxing stance when they are in a particularly playful mood, standing on their hind legs and hopping around. Breed Almost all boxers are active, bright, fun-loving, and loyal. It means they can demand high-intensity attention from their owner. Many owners believe that their loyalty is unmatched by other breeds. Even though they can be quite tender in the family, they may act hostile to strangers. This breed is prone to sunburn and in the worst cases, without adequate protection, this may lead to skin cancers. Appearance Boxers have a medium-sized figure. They are well-built with strong limbs and short back. They have strong muscles. Their skull is slightly arched and flat. Their cheeks do not bulge. The chest is quite wide and the dog has a deep brisket and slightly long shoulders. Boxers also have a long upper arm while their coat is shiny and short. Boxers have both an alert and intelligent expression. Their eyes are dark brown and their ears will rise when alert. The hindquarters of this breed are well-built with muscle. It is also important to ensure that clean, fresh water is always available. Grooming Boxers have a tight and short coat. This means they do not require frequent grooming. However, a full bath at least on a monthly basis is important for overall health. A mild shampoo will be useful. Equally as important is to avoid bathing them too frequently so as to avoid drying their skin, causing itchiness and dryness. Their ears should be cleaned too to avoid infections. Owners can buy special ear cleaning and shampoo products from their veterinarian. Exercise Boxers overall have very high levels of energy and as such are a very active breed. They benefit from a variety of exercise such as regular walking or running. To maintain optimal health Boxers need around 40 minutes of exercise on a daily basis.
Life Span Did You Know? Black Labrador Retrievers, or just Black Labs, are a common coat color variation of one of the most popular dog breeds. The Black Labrador Retriever is not necessarily a separate dog breed. Black Labs are still Labrador Retrievers; they just have a distinct coat color that is a specifically-bred characteristic. Like other Labrador Retrievers, Black Labs are energetic, playful, and affectionate dogs that make great family companions. Although they are active and energetic dogs, Labs are also known for their gentleness and patience with other family members. Well-socialized Black Labs tend to get along well with just about everyone including children, other dogs, pets, and even strangers. They are considered one of the kid-friendly dog breeds. As one of the most affectionate dog breeds , Black Labs thrive on attention, especially from their favorite humans. They are happiest when they are spending time with their families and receiving affection and attention from them. Despite their high energy, Labs are highly adaptable dogs. They do tend to be better suited to homes with fenced yards where they can run, but they also adapt well to apartments provided they get enough daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation. They do well in just about any climate, but are sensitive to heat and extreme cold like many dog breeds. As such, they do not like to spend long periods of time alone. Potential health concerns to be aware of in a Black Labrador Retriever can include elbow dysplasia , hip dysplasia, heart disease, hereditary myopathy, cataracts, and progressive retinal atrophy. Another potential health concern is EIC exercise-induced collapse , which can occur in young adult Labs and has a genetic link. Because carriers can be identified by DNA tests, it is recommended that breeders test for them. Good breeding practices make a big difference in the health of puppies and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. Make sure you talk to the breeder about the health and genetic history of both parents. You can also ask about any health tests or clearances that have been done. As a large, deep-chested dog breed, Labrador Retrievers are at a higher risk for bloat. Labrador Retrievers are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners. Although their high energy and puppylike exuberance can sometimes be a challenge, they are intelligent dogs that are eager to please. As long as training is kept consistent and focused on positive rewards and praise, novice owners still tend to do well with Black Labs. Puppy training classes are always an option and offer plenty of benefits aside from training too. Black Labs have a short, water-resistant double coat that sheds year-round and sheds heavier as seasons change. Depending on how active your Black Lab is and what they get into, they may need a bath more often, especially if they are swimming a lot. Weekly ear checks and careful cleanings when needed help prevent ear infections. Good dental care for dogs , like daily brushing and cleanings at the vet when needed, can help prevent painful dental diseases later in life. As one of the most active dog breeds , a Black Labrador Retriever will need a lot of daily activity to be happy and healthy. Daily walks plus some playtime and time to run are a minimum. Your Black Lab will likely be up for more activity if you are. One of the facts about Labrador Retrievers is that they have an extended puppyhood. They tend to maintain a puppylike exuberance until they are years old. Although they do tend to mellow out as they get older, they are still active, energetic, and playful dogs. Once they are fully grown, you can try other things like hiking, running, dock diving, and more to find other activities you and your Black Lab can enjoy together. Fully-grown Black Labrador Retrievers usually stand inches tall and weigh pounds. Black Labs generally live for years on average. Black Labrador Retrievers came before the also-popular Chocolate Lab. All modern Chocolate Labs can be traced back to three Black Labs in the s. It was the December issue of .Featured Black Labrador Retriever Article. All breeds of Labrador Retrievers are known for being kind and gentle — and this trait runs especially strong with the chocolate-colored sweeties. While these dogs are very friendly to strangers, they have even more affection to give to their beloved families. Your Chocolate Lab puppy or adult will be happiest spending time with their favorite people. If you have young children, a lab is a great fit, as this breed is usually quite tolerant of the horseplay of small children who are still learning how to interact with pets. Just like many people, Chocolate Labs enjoy both downtime — especially if it involves being pampered by their family — and active high-energy fun. We recommend daily exercise, which can include anything from fetch, to tag, or even frisbee games. The average Chocolate Lab lifespan is between 9 and 11 years. The most common Chocolate Lab health problem is hip dysplasia, which occurs more commonly in older and overweight dogs. This is just one of the reasons to make exercise a common part of your time with a Chocolate Lab puppy or fully grown adult. Another problem that occurs in overweight labs is joint and movement issues. The other most common Chocolate Lab health problems are: Progressive Retinal Atrophy Cataracts Elbow Dysplasia As is the case with any dog, when you bring home a Chocolate Labrador, make sure that you have a good vet to handle routing vaccinations and check-ups as well as emergency health problems. Learn more about the Keystone Puppies Health Guarantee! Chocolate Lab Coat Care In general, Chocolate Lab coat care is easy compared to many other dog breeds which require weekly or daily work. Labrador Retrievers all have double coats, which includes an under layer of short hairs and a slightly longer top layer. This coat is useful for repelling water and keeping them cool in warmer temperatures — and warm in cooler ones. Their coat is also noted to be slightly dry and oily. Chocolate Lab coat care is fairly minimal and considered low maintenance. The coat should be brushed with a firm bristle brush 2 — 3 times per month to minimize shedding. In addition to that, baths are needed fairly infrequently. What is more crucial is ensuring that their toenails are well cared for throughout the year. Meet Chocolate Lab Puppies for Sale. Prior to that I had worked at an animal shelter as well as a grooming and boarding facility. I am doing some online studies for genetics and animal behavior, as I am always striving to be very well educated with the dogs. I am an avid hunter and LOVE spending the days outside with the dogs. Life Span Did You Know? There is a reason that year after year, the Labrador Retriever is the most popular dog breed in the United States. The history of the Labrador Retriever dates back to the early s in Newfoundland, just off the Atlantic coast of Canada. Had these families not played a vital part in the continuation of the breed, the loving and affectionate Labs we have all grown to love may not exist today. The first recognized Yellow Labrador Retriever was born in .One of the friendliest breeds out there, Yellow Labs are great companions and love to be a part of the family. While the color yellow is part of their namesake, their coats range from fawn or cream to butterscotch or a deep golden hue. Coming into popularity during the midth century, the Yellow Labrador Retriever has been a staple for hunters and family homes alike ever since. These dogs are patient and kind when faced with energetic young ones. Yellow Labs delight in big spaces, opting to run and play wildly. However, they will happily lounge on the couch after having a long, hard run outside. When given a little training, they can easily learn to control barking habits and restrain themselves from digging. Their double coat also makes them a good fit for just about any climate. As with most dogs, they are sensitive to extreme heat or cold. Generally speaking, Labradors are healthy. They can develop certain inherent conditions, along with cataracts and kneecap displacement, but will remain healthy overall. As long as they are taken to their vet appointments with regularity, Labs will usually feel just fine. Yellow Labs are loyal companions with few drawbacks. Treats never hurt, of course. This, paired with their eagerness to please, makes them a highly trainable dog breed that is a good fit for owners of any experience level. With minimal training, these dogs can control their barking and digging without much trouble. Labs have very short, double-layered, and water-resistant fur. Its density protects them from the cold, so they will often try to swim any time of year. They experience heavier seasonal shedding twice a year and slight shedding throughout the year. Giving them a good brush once a week or a few times a week should keep their coats shiny and healthy. Other grooming tasks include nail trimming, ear care, and dental care. Proper dental care for dogs includes brushing their teeth or using an enzyme toothpaste every day. This helps prevent the tartar buildup that causes dental diseases like gum disease and tooth decay. You can also supplement your dental care efforts with dental hygiene chews, a special dental care diet, and more. This breed tends to be very active. They were bred to be working dogs and need exercise. A few daily walks and some time to run should help assuage their energy levels. Yellow Labs also need a fair amount of mental activity as well; they like to stay sharp. Yellow Labs are classified as medium to large dogs. They reach an average height of 23 inches and an average healthy weight of 75 pounds. A Yellow Labrador Retriever generally lives years. It was traditional in Newfoundland for every fishing boat to have a Labrador Retriever that would help retrieve the fish as they came in off the trawl. Featured Yellow Labrador Retriever Article. More than twice as many Labs were registered than any other breed making it a likely leader for many years to come. In a recent article, a licensed professional counselor for more than twenty-five years, explained how owning a Lab can help produce healthier, happier, more well adjusted children. Here is an excerpt from her article: Dogs help children to be more physically fit. All dogs, regardless of breed, need to be walked. Children who take their dogs for regularly scheduled walks tend to exercise more than those who have no reason to get up off the couch and leave the TV. The Journal of Physical Activity and Health concluded that people who walk their dogs generally walk about an hour longer per day than non-dog walkers. In this age where over one-third of children and adolescents in the United States are overweight or obese, exercise is no longer merely a choice of leisure activity, it is a necessity Center for Disease Control and Prevention, .What more pleasurable way for a child to exercise than to run and play with an adored dog? All dogs need exercise regardless of size, so children include dogs when they are running or playing casually—not just on regularly scheduled walks. One of the reasons that I suggest retrievers when parents ask about what kind of dog is best is simply the name. Of course, I grew up with retrievers and I love them, but even more than other dogs, they love to play ball. Be sure to read the rest of her seven part article, Ten Reasons to Own a Dog. He goes in during the day when I'm at work but I leave him out at night. He fusses once in but goes in pretty easily. Sunny can be bitey in play and will need a family that can handle this. He is still learning that he can not have my food. He has not counter surfed but he does want what you have! Sunny isn't barky. He barks for a few minutes after going in his crate and if new ppl or dogs come in the house. We have not met any kids. However the home he came from had kids. Sunny seems to be doing better with eating. We feed in morning and night. We have added wet food and joint supplements to his food. His hips pop. They ride great in the car. Sunny does bark at people and dogs he sees in the yard or house who are familiar but ultimately wants to meet them and play. Sunny does also do this on walks but has become a lot better with training and exposure. He did good getting in a bath. Wants to drink out of the shower hose. No thunderstorms yet. Sunny definitely needs training. Group training would be good for Sunny. He knows sit but doesn't always want to sit! We have introduced, stay, lay, leave it used a lot on walks to help with barking with me which is essentially heel and come. He has not mastered any of it. He does great walking with a gentle lead. Sunny is getting better! We use a gentle lead and he does better with not pulling. We don't have a favorite game. Favorite toy anything he can chew. He is a big chewer. Benebones and nylabones. We don't allow squeaker or plush toys or tug rooted right now because he was a little obsessive, harder to redirect and liked to eat them as he destroyed them he likes lick mats, kongs and toppls. He has been to a local dog store and coffee shop and we worked on leave it and redirection from barking. I think with ongoing training and exposure he will do great in crowds but right now we have done small controlled environments. Goofy and in some respects lazy. They like their people. When I watch Sunny I always think he will do best in a home that has a couple of boys to play with and a family who gets out. Sunny has liked going out. He would also do good in a home with another dog! I think Sunny can live in any home with some training and consistency will exceed expectations! RR requires most puppies and some high every adult dogs to live in a home with a fenced in yard. All animals adopted from RR will be fixed before the adoption is complete. However, we understand the need for an animal to grow properly before undergoing this type of procedure. Animals under nine 9 months will be rehomed as a 'foster to adopt', meaning they will be able to live with an approved adopter as an unaltered animal while remaining property of RR. Foster to adopts will check in once a month until fixed and are subject to occasional home visits to check on the animal. She is believed to be a bloodhound shepherd mix possibly retriever. Sunny was pulled from a local shelter Christmas of after a hoarding abandonment case of 27 plus fearful feral dogs left behind in a property. The home was condemned, disgusting filthy. A home in such condition, no animal or human should have to live in. Sunny and 3 others call the sanctuary home for the time being, all are doing amazing with their rehab, learning what life as a loved pet should be. Sunny struggles to settle in and takes more time then the others. She is the one that stresses easily when meeting new people but with a playful active dog mentoring her she does so much better. She slowly warms up some when it comes to people, still unsure if she wants human affection at first but will always take a treat, moves in for petting, willing to snuggle and even cuddle. Sunny loves all the dogs, is good with cats and small critters too. Sunny has an amazing personality she herself is still learning about who she is. Always best to approach her slow at first. Sunny needs a lot of confidence still, and that requires a lot of patience with no set time frame and expectations ever. Allow her to live life 1 day at a time. Sunny walks amazing on leash, barks very little but barks. Understanding that continued training is a lifetime commitment, is very important. Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense.

In addition to their physical features, the following are some of the traits that make Goldendoodles one of the most desired dog breeds and why you should get them. Goldendoodles are rarely aggressive and love the attention they receive from other people and animals. Also, Goldendoodles are prone to getting separation anxiety when left alone for a long period. In addition to it, you can also teach them basic tricks as they are quick learners and stress-free to train. Therefore, if you or someone staying with you is mildly allergic to fur, especially dog fur, you can still get a Goldendoodle. Goldendoodles have a thick undercoat and need a haircut every seven to eight weeks and additional grooming of nails. However, you should avoid bathing your Goldendoodle puppies frequently as it would result in them getting dry skin and infection. Also, the hypoallergenic trait of Goldendoodles would reduce the irritation of cleaning your house to remove dog fur. However, they are prone to various genetic health problems that affect mainly their knees, hips, and eyes and can be detected under genetic health testing. Apart from this, Goldendoodles are health conscious as they need a minimum of half an hour of playtime daily. Lifespan Sociability If you get a Sheptese, get ready for the questions. People are going to ask you all the time, what is it? The parent breeds are similar in some personality aspects. They are both affectionate with their families. Remember that the Maltese was—and still is—a pampered pooch. He knows it, too. This pup has the sassiness and bravado of many toy breeds. Few realize that they are small dogs. The German Shepherd probably fuels this attitude. He is confident because he has the stuff to back up his aplomb. This pup has earned his stripes and then some! Every day will be a new adventure with this pooch. Selective breeding refined the German Shepherd to the stately dog we see today. The AKC appreciated the efforts and recognized him in .The first pup on the books was named Queen of Switzerland and worthy of the title. The German Shepherd took on the wrath after the world wars. It was also replaced at one time with Alstaian. The Maltese has retained his place with the rich and famous. While the Maltese got his start with Roman royalty, he has retained this status with his fans today. Many things go into the mix, including breed dominance, history, and size. That makes it hard to generalize about the Sheptese. The German Shepherd brings keen intelligence to the mix. He is easy to train and can learn a variety of tasks and commands. The Maltese is equally as smart. That means that you need to challenge your pet mentally. Are These Dogs Good for Families? He wants all the attention. Separation anxiety is a concern with the Sheptese. This pup is relatively friendly with strangers, but early socialization is imperative to seal the deal. It comes from his history as a herding dog. It also means trouble for your cat or other small animals. This pup is moderately tolerant of other canines. Many of the caveats depend on the dominant breed. If not, rely on the advice of your veterinarian for the particular care that your pet will need. The size of your pup is a vital consideration. Use those observations as your guide because foods for small and large breeds vary. If your pup is more like a Maltese, you must make sure he eats at every meal. Dogs of this size are more inclined toward drops in blood sugar levels. Begin with three or four meals a day for a puppy with two times for an adult. Walks and trips to the doggie park will seal the deal. This pup has a moderate tendency toward weight gain, so regular activity is imperative to keep him healthy. Think of your time together as opportunities to bond with your pet. He can also handle more challenging tasks, which is why he performs on the agility circuit in dog shows. The key to success is consistent training. Let your pet know what you want him to do. The Maltese is easy-peasy with his silky hair and regular combing to prevent mats. The Shepherd needs regular brushing to keep the hair in check. The key is to remain consistent. You teach your pup what he needs to do, and you make it easier for you. Handle his paws often to make trimming his nails easier. A post shared by Aaki aaki. Minor Conditions. While they may be larger than a Maltese, they rarely grow to be the size of a German Shepherd. Very likely, they will be around 10 to 18 inches tall and weigh between 20 and 25 pounds. Even when the GSD parent dons another color, its mutt is likely to inherit the same color and the same medium-to-long double coat. However, the German Shepherd coat it might inherit means a double coat that sheds year-round and blows off twice a year. This means having to brush at least once a week to control the shedding and then as frequently as once daily during the shedding seasons. As for the ears, maintenance will depend on which set the pup inherits. All dogs benefit from regular nail trimming, and the Maltese-German Shepherd mix is no different. It will also require frequent toothbrushing to ensure good oral health. Strength The strength of the German Shepherd — Maltese cross will mainly depend on its size. They may, however, still have considerable bite strength relative to the size of their muzzle. The build and size of the German Shepherd unsurprisingly make it a faster runner at approximately 30 miles per hour. Given the running speeds of its two parents, the Maltese — GSD mix is expected to run quite fast. Of course, its speed will be proportional to its size as longer legs mean larger strides. Nevertheless, you can expect these dogs to be quick on their feet, agile, and energetic. Exercise Requirement The Maltese — German Shepherd mix may be more laid back thanks to the lower energy levels it inherits from the Maltese parent. However, having a GSD parent means they are likely to still be quite energetic. They will thrive on physical exercise of at least 30 minutes per day in order to avoid the development of bad behaviors. The intelligence and work drive they are likely to inherit from the German Shepherd parent also means they will require plenty of mental stimulation. These may be in the form of puzzle toys , enrichment games, and training. They may also excel in canine sports, which would ensure both physical and mental wellbeing. It belongs to the highest tier of dog intelligence, which means it only takes up to 5 repetitions for them to learn a command. The Maltese, however, is not quite as trainable. These dogs belong to the fifth tier of dog intelligence and may need up to 80 repetitions to master a new command. Nevertheless, what it lacks in natural intelligence, it makes up for in its eagerness to please. With early exposure and socialization, these crosses can be well-behaved and delightful companions. They relate better with other dogs and are much more likely to relax and switch off at home. Compared to the Maltese, however, they have much more energy and a stronger drive to work. Although these dogs are highly adaptable, they will benefit from plenty of training and even a job to do at home. But no matter which parent it takes its personality from, the Maltese — German Shepherd mix is sure to be affectionate with family and playful yet gentle with young children. You can also expect them to be slightly wary of strangers because of their protective nature. Health Any Maltese GSD cross will require regular vet checkups from puppyhood because the difference in size between the two parents can lead to several complications. Conversely, its heart might be too small to support a larger body. Additionally, the genetic conditions of both parents will play a huge role in the health of their offspring. The GSD parent brings up concerns of hip and elbow dysplasia while the Maltese parent makes it more likely to suffer from patellar issues. But if both breeding stocks are screened and healthy, the resulting offspring are likely to be healthy as well. Lifespan Barring any complications from mismatched sizing, a Maltese — German Shepherd cross is generally expected to live between 10 and 12 years. To ensure longevity, take your pup to regular vet check-ups and feed them a high-quality diet throughout its life. Additionally, keep your dog from becoming overweight as this will lead not only to cardiovascular issues but will also cause unnecessary wear on their joints and give them a much harder time in their senior years. Nevertheless, it can participate in the AKC Canine Partners program, which accommodates the registration of mutts and allows them to participate in a number of club-hosted events. Among the events that the German Shepherd-Maltese cross is expected to excel in include Flyball and Rally. It would be difficult for you to find a German Shepherd — Maltese mix because responsible breeders would not produce them on purpose. The difference in size between the two breeds puts the resulting puppies at great risk. If the Maltese is the female that will carry the litter, its life will also be at risk because the puppies might be too large for its body to handle. Nevertheless, you may still encounter the occasional GSD-Maltese cross as a result of an accidental mating. When you do, it will surely be an interesting dog with plenty of unique characteristics. Even more so because of its incredibly unique appearance and combination of personality traits from the two parents. However, these dogs may need careful and regular vet examinations throughout their life since the difference in size between the two parents can bring life-threatening health conditions. It grows up to 10 inches for a male and 9 inches for a female. An adult Maltese regardless of gender can weight up to 4 pounds. A Maltese fall under the toy group classification. It is probably because it is not easy to breed a small Maltese with a large German Shepherd. In a forum posted in Quora , members expressed fear from a possible Maltese German Shepherd mix. And if it worked and the female Maltese carries a large GSD pup, would she survive the birthing process? Perhaps these questions hindered most breeders of today from crossing these two breeds. A GSD has a lot of great characteristics that pet parents would love. When it comes to popular GSD mixed breeds, the following are the most popular ones. Mix them and you get the top two best guard dogs out there. These breeds are energetic, obedient, loyal, and brave. Maltese and Poodle Mix Maltipoo Charming, affectionate, and loving — this is how little Maltipoos are often described. Because of its poodle genes, it often comes in brown color and not white. The cute face is the same though and it remains to be a great family pet. Maltese and Shihtzu Malshi Do you want a furball that you can bring anywhere you go? The Malshi would be a great cross-breed to have. It is very small that you can even place it in your bag while doing your window shopping. An active dog, the Malshi is a good company even if you just want to binge-watch over the weekend. Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier Morkie Are you a fan of small and cute dogs? The Morkie is an example of a family dog that you can leave with your child with a peace of mind. This is a friendly, loving, and very active breed too. Final Thoughts on the Maltese German Shepherd Mix Finding information on the Maltese German Shepherd mix is challenging because very few breeders had probably tried it. According to Breeding Business , it is difficult and worrisome to breed dogs of different sizes. There are health concerns involved and increased risk. The strain on the smaller female can be stressful and can even lead to death. If you are into German Shepherds or Maltese, it is best to choose from their popular mixes as these are proven to be healthier and more reliable breeds.

Life Span Did You Know? The Boxer is one of the most popular dog breeds in the United States. It has been recognized by the AKC since .Although the Boxer dog breed originated in Germany, their ancient ancestry can be traced back to the Assyrian empire war dogs of BC. The modern Boxer breed we know and love today was originally developed in Germany in the late s. English-bred Bulldogs and the Bullenbesiier were crossed to create an energetic and agile hunting dog to chase wild game. The Boxer is a popular family companion and a versatile working dog. As a member of the Working Group, Boxers can be found competing in dog sports like agility, obedience, and herding. They also make great service and assistance dogs, as well as therapy dogs, and can be found working as search and rescue dogs, drug detection dogs, police dogs, and military dogs. The Boxer is a muscular and energetic dog that tends to have a happy, friendly disposition. They bond closely with their families and tend to get along well with children and other dogs. They can even do well with other pets despite their high prey drive if they are socialized and trained with them. As long as they are well-socialized, Boxers are generally upbeat, playful, and friendly. Although they have a natural instinct to protect their family from unwanted visitors, they do tend to warm up once introduced and are happy to make a new friend. They can be prone to barking a lot if you do not work on socialization and training your dog to stop barking early on. Boxers can be highly adaptable dogs. Although they have a lot of energy and are better suited to homes with yards where they can run, they can adapt to apartment living as long as they get the daily exercise, attention, and mental stimulation they need. As with any non-arctic dog breed, they are sensitive to very cold temperatures. Boxers are also a brachycephalic breed, which means they are even more sensitive to heat than other dogs. A Boxer is also one of the most affectionate dog breeds. Because they bond so closely with their families and get bored easily, they should not be left alone for long periods of time. Potential health conditions to be aware of in a Boxer include hip dysplasia, degenerative myelopathy, thyroid issues , and heart conditions like aortic stenosis and cardiomyopathy. Good breeding practices make a big difference and reputable breeders will screen their dogs to avoid passing preventable issues to puppies. So, make sure you are asking the breeder about the health and genetic history of the parents and about any health tests that have been done. Boxers are intelligent dogs that are eager to please their owners. Despite their energetic personality, they are one of the best dog breeds for first-time owners and are highly trainable dogs. They tend to excel at almost any task put before them! Because of their open, friendly nature and high energy, they have a tendency to jump up at people in excitement and playfulness. Since they grow into powerful dogs, you will want to make sure you train your dog not to jump up. Boxers have smooth and short coats that will shed a little year-round and require minimal grooming. A brush-down once or twice a week and the occasional bath as needed will keep their short coat healthy and looking great. Nail trims once or twice a month are usually enough to keep nails from growing too long. Checking ears weekly and carefully cleaning as needed can help prevent ear infections. Checking and wiping their facial wrinkles weekly or a few times a week if your dog is prone to getting into things can help keep their wrinkles clean and free of irritation. Dental diseases, like gum disease, are the most common health issues in older dogs because dental care is often overlooked; and, it can lead to other serious health issues. Brushing daily, plus cleanings at the vet when needed, is ideal. The Boxer is a high-energy dog breed that needs plenty of daily exercise to stay happy and healthy. Due to their high prey drive and urge to chase, they should only be let off-leash in secure areas. Boxers tend to get bored with repetition, are excellent problem solvers, and are naturally exuberant. A fully-grown Boxer usually stands inches tall at the shoulder and weighs pounds. Boxers generally live years on average. In Germany, the Boxer was one of the first dog breeds chosen for police training. Featured Boxer Article. Prevalence: Common Boxers are stocky, muscular and powerful. Males grow to about 25 inches and weigh from about 65 to 80 pounds 30 to 36 kilograms ; females grow from about 21 to 25 inches and weigh from about 50 to 65 pounds 22 to 30 kilograms. Boxers have regal, distinctly shaped square heads. Their jaw is undershot and the muzzle blunt. They have a broad, deep chest and a relatively short, strong back. Boxer's ears fold over naturally, but traditionally, their ears have been cropped to stand erect. Their tails generally are docked and carried high. Their feet are compact and the toes are arched. The boxer's coat is short and sheds moderately. Some boxers are a rich, fawn color and others are brindle. Their face or mask is usually black, but many have white face markings and white on the chest and paws. Personality: Boxers are intelligent, high-energy, playful dogs that like to stay busy. Their temperament reflects their breeding. They prefer to be in the company of their owners and are loyal pets that will fiercely guard their family and home against strangers. Few boxers bark excessively. If a boxer barks, chances are there is a good reason. Many boxers are vocal, however, and make a growling noise that's really just the dog's way of talking. Living With: The boxer has a high need for companionship and exercise. If these needs are not met, boxers can be destructive if left alone in the house. Boxers are ideal for people who want a canine companion with them most of the time or for larger busy families with homes that are often occupied by someone. They can do well on a country estate or in a city apartment as long as they have the opportunity to romp and expel energy. If you live in an urban area, regular walks are necessary. Boxers are intolerant of hot weather, and care must be taken to prevent them from getting overheated. They also need protection from the cold since they are short-coated. Their coats, however, are very easy to care for and will be shiny and bright as long as they have a good diet, are bathed occasionally, and are given regular rub-downs with a grooming mitt or brushings with a rubber curry. Some boxers drool excessively, and some snort and snore. Like other larger dogs, boxers are not particularly long-lived. Their life expectancy ranges from about seven to 10 years. History: Boxers are descendants of extinct bullenbaiser breeds crossed with mastiff, bulldog and possibly Great Dane and even a terrier. They were developed in Germany in the 19th century, initially as bull baiting dogs and later as butcher's helpers, controlling cattle in slaughterhouses. Some breed historians say boxers are named from the German word boxl, their slaughterhouse designation. Other fanciers contend the name boxer comes from the characteristic way that they use their forepaws to play, sparring much like a human boxer. After the breed rose to become among the most popular in America. Boxers are considered working dogs. They were one of the first breeds employed as a police dog, and they have been used as seeing-eye dogs. But they are also bred to be companion and guard dogs, perhaps best known for being loyal family pets that are especially fond of children. Related Pet Care Articles. Welcome to our website! The contractual agreement between you and the breeder Agreement made to not breed the dog in the future Agreement made to not enter it into competitions No restrictions on the Boxer puppy Read on to see why these factors affect the price of Boxer puppies. Reputation Of The Breeder Breeders spend a lot of time and money to build up their reputation as trustworthy Boxer breeders. The more renowned a breeder is, the more they are able to charge for their dogs. However, some puppy mills and backyard breeders will shoot up their prices to appear to be reputable breeders. Therefore, you should go through a trusted association to find a reputable breeder. Do not be fooled by good advertising. The individual Boxer puppy you want to purchase must have its own papers that document its registration with the American Kennel Club. These papers cost money and will increase the price of your Boxer puppy slightly. This is important because pedigree changes the price of the Boxer puppy; I will discuss this next! Pedigree is important when it comes to determining what your Boxer puppy will look like, its temperament, and the chance of it developing genetic issues in the future as it grows up. Determining who the dam and sire of your Boxer puppy are is important in determining price. If your Boxer puppy has a champion sire or dam, then the price of the puppy will increase significantly. Champion heritage drives the price of the Boxer puppy up because the buyer is almost guaranteed to get a perfect specimen of what a Boxer should be and has a better chance at winning competitions with their Boxer puppy when it grows up. The breed, unfortunately, suffers from hip dysplasia, cardiovascular myopathy, severe arthritis, degenerative myelopathy, several cancers, and aortic valve disease. The American Kennel Club recommends that all of these tests, including thyroid screening, elbow evaluations, and certain DNA tests are all done to produce a long-term prognosis so effective preventative care can be carried out from day one. If a Boxer puppy has any health concerns, then their price will decrease, and they will often be sold for a couple of hundred dollars or so depending on the specific health issues they have. As medium-sized dogs, Boxers can leave their mothers safely at eight weeks. Many people who want to compete with their boxers will wait until the Boxer puppy is six to eight months old before purchasing them. During this time, the breeder will invest in behavioral training. When the Boxer puppy is six to eight months old, the breeder will also be able to give you a better idea of their temperament and their adult markings and ultimate size. As a result, these puppies will be much more expensive than the younger ones. Boxers will stand at 23 to 25 inches tall if they are male and .They have tall, regal-looking shoulders that slope down gently to a smaller set of hips. Their heads are quite square and are characterized by their wrinkles that make them appear confused but curious! Boxers that meet the breed standard are a fawn or brindle color with white markings on their chests, bellies, inner legs, and faces. However, the white markings may not be more than a third of their entire body. If your Boxer puppy meets the breed standard, then their price will increase because they can be used for competitions. However, if they do not meet the breed standard, then their price will be decreased, as this is seen as undesirable from a competition standpoint. The first agreement will prevent you from further breeding your Boxer puppy. The second agreement will prevent you from entering your Boxer puppy into any competitions. Both contacts will decrease the price of your Boxer puppy, as they place restrictions on what you can and cannot do with your puppy as it grows up.
