HillView Kennels We have a separate heated barn to raise the puppies in a safe, sanitary, home like environment. Puppies are given stimulation exercises the first 7 days of their lives. At 4 weeks old we take them out of the whelping box and put them in a large pen with shavings that are cleaned twice daily. We then start weaning the puppies from their mother. This takes many weeks to stop milk production and the mother missing their puppies. We have 3 large puppy yards, that weather permitting, the puppies spend their days playing in. We never leave the puppies out at night, they are always brought in. We live in a near wilderness location and there are bears, wolves, and other predators in the area. Our experience in placing dogs, has shown us that placing two females together is oftentimes not the best long term situation. We receive many calls from owners needing to surrender their female boxers because there is fighting with another female dog in the house. Either way, the fighting is often brutal and bloody. We have adopted a policy to never place two female dogs in the same house. Are your boxers healthy? We look at each dog, individually, and based on the needs of that dog, we may require fencing. Be Patient and Consistent Owning a puppy requires a lot of patience! It is so easy to lose your patience at times, but you need to know that your puppy is learning what is right and wrong, and that takes time. It might not happen overnight, but as long as you remain consistent and patient, your pup will learn good behaviour. If your puppy is nipping at your pant legs or sleeves, chances are he is loving the tugging feeling and is actually already playing tug-of-war. Instead of using your clothing, redirect his attention to a rope toy. One thing to be careful of is being too rough with tug-of-war, especially when your puppy is going through his teething phase. A game of fetch offers your pup a distraction from biting, and Golden Retriever puppies naturally love to retrieve things. Faults: Neck too short and thick; thin or weak neck. Forequarters The shoulders are strong and well muscled. The shoulder blade is well laid back and forms, with the upper arm, an apparent degree angle. The tips of the shoulder blades are set about 2 to 3 finger-widths apart. The elbows are set on a plane parallel to the body, neither close to the body nor turned out. Viewed from the front, the forelegs are perpendicular to the ground or may, especially in a dog with a very broad chest, incline slightly inward.
