It is possible to have very minimal white markings and not carry the parti gene, as well as possible to carry the parti gene and not have white markings. Brindle is also a recessive gene, so both parents have to carry for it to have Brindle puppies. Brindles can have a variety of intensities in the markings ranging from bold striped patterns to barely visible. Sable is a gene that gives the coat a two toned look to it. Sables will change colour with age as well. The black tips to their coat will not be visible as an adult, other than possibly the tips of the ears and some on the legs. Silver is a gene that fades the coat to silver over time. These puppies usually start to show signs of being a silver at weeks old. There are many varying degrees of Silver from Black will minimal Silver markings to a dog that goes almost completely Silver with age. Both parents have to carry for this gene in order to see it in their offspring and therefore to see it you need two copies of the gene or the proper combination of the phantom gene and recessive black gene, which is very rare. It is shown by markings on the face, eyebrows, chest, interior of all four legs and under their tail. It is not seen if the dog is in the Apricot Spectrum of colours and is only seen on a solid Black or solid Chocolate dog but can have other genes with marking show, as seen below. Some Phantom's will have bold Phantom markings and some will have very minimal Phantom markings. Parti is also a recessive gene. You need both parents to carry the parti gene in order to see it in the puppies, therefore two copies. Parti is a gene that makes white markings over the body and can act on any other colour. A dog can also be a cryptic Merle, where you do not see the merle markings visibly on the body, but the dog still carries the merle gene. The same gene also produces Reds. You need two copies of this gene for it to be seen on their coat, as it is a recessive gene. These dogs can have either Black or Chocolate pigmentation. All the puppies below have Black pigmentation. This gene can cover a variety of other colours that will not be visible until you cross the Apricot Spectrum colour to a non-apricot spectrum colour, such as Merle, Sable, Phantom and Brindle all seen below. All dogs have a base coat of Black or Chocolate, you can tell whether they are Black or Chocolate based on their pigment on their nose. If there are no other genes acting on the Black or Chocolate, you will see a solid Black or solid Chocolate dog. Eumelanin is black in default, but it also produces certain diluted colors due to the genes inherited by the dog. The second pigment, which is pheomelanin, is primarily red, but it can become apricot, cream, tan, and other similar shades when altered by dilution genes. This is when the use of notations like F1 and F1b came about and what has caused many people to think they need to know the generation to guess about furnishings. In the recent past, new commercially available tests have been developed that allow us to genetically test our parent dogs for furnishing genes and other coat genes as well, such as curl so we can better predict coat type in puppies. This is much, much more accurate and dependable than the old Mendelian filial F1, F1b, etc. The gene responsible for furnishings is dominant; so by testing the parent dogs DNA, it can be determined if a breed pair will produce puppies that all have furnishings, or if there will be some puppies with an incorrect or Golden Retriever like coat. Dogs with one copy of the furnishings gene Ff or F IC are lower shedding than dogs without furnishings. Dogs with two copies of furnishing genes FF are typically non-shedding. If you have a family with allergies, a Goldendoodle with an incorrect coat is not the best match for you. Coat variation in the domestic dog is governed by variants in three genes. J Hered. Just inside your Frenchies anus are two scent glands. Usually, these scent glands emit a small quantity of odour on the fecal matter as it passes. Creating a distinct smell that tells other dogs who the poo belongs to. A dog can also emit from their anal glands in reaction to fear and anger — if you have ever been in the vicinity of anal gland liquid, you will know of its scent, which can be described as a foul fishy smell. How Does Anal Abscess Develop? Your Frenchies anal glads can become impaired when an obstruction in the duct passes from the glands to the Anus. The common causes of obstruction throughout the duct include producing softer stool or diarrhea infections that lead to the inflammation of the sac and duct. Interestingly, worms and parasites are not the cause of inflammation of the anal glands. That being said, when an anal gland infection occurs, your Frenchies rectum can become sore and swollen and often lead to an abscess. As well as, there may be bleeding from the Anus. Anal gland infection occurs when obstruction of the duct causes inflammation to the local area. Symptoms of Anal Gland Issues When this occurs, your Frenchie may show signs of anal gland issues, the most common one being: Bleeding and swelling near the anal region Excessive licking of the anal area and hind end Straining to defecate Releasing a sudden foul fishy odour Leaking of anal gland fluid Scooting and discomfort of the rear end why does my dog drip blood after pooping How Is It Treated You may not be up to the challenge; however, this method can be performed at home if you feel confident doing this. It is highly recommended that your vet show you how to do this for the first time. You should have a second person around to help your Frenchie stand still while performing the procedure. If both colors were equally represented within all breeding programs, there would be many more litters of black Pug puppies than there currently are. Each pup's color is determined by a pair of color genes, one comes from the dam, the other from the sire. If both genes in the pair are black, the Pug will be black. If one gene is black and the other is fawn, the pup will be black since it is the dominant gene and overpowers the fawn. If both genes are fawn, the Pug will be fawn. Interestingly, despite their coloring, black Pugs carry the fawn gene, known as SS, though it is a recessive gene. The B gene produces the black coat color. Generally, it is not acceptable to breed a black Pug to a fawn. Crossing colors will not improve the coat or color of either type. Therefore, with no benefit to the pairing, most breeders will focus on one certain color. This said, due to recessive genes, a litter can consist of both fawn coats and black coats. SKULL The skull is relatively large in circumference, and appears high from the corner of the lower jaw to the apex of the skull. The muzzle is turned slightly upward and is very deep from the corner of the eye to the corner of the mouth. The distance from the bottom of the stop between the eyes to the tip of the nose should not be less than the distance measured from the tip of the nose to the edge of the under lip. The jaws are broad and very square. Jaws should not be wry. The thick, broad, pendant flews, referred to as the "chops", are very deep. They completely overhang the lower jaw at each side. Over-nose roll, even if broken, that covers any part of the nose. EARS The small, thin, "rose" ears are set high on the head. The front inner edge of each ear joins the outline of the skull at the top back corner of the skull, placing them wide apart and well away from the eyes. Very Serious Faults: Erect ears; prick ears; button ears; cropped ears. Neck The short, thick neck is deep, strong, and well-arched. The skin is moderately loose, thick and wrinkled, forming a dewlap on each side from the lower jaw to the chest. Forequarters The shoulders are very broad and muscular. Hindquarters The rear legs are strong and large, and they are slightly longer than the forelegs, which elevates the loin above the shoulders. The stifles are rounded and they turn very slightly outward, away from the body, which results in the hocks turning inward and the rear feet turning very slightly outward. Feet The compact, thick feet are moderate in size. The toes are well split up and have high knuckles. The front and rear feet may point straight ahead or slightly outward.
