Our world class Labrador Retrievers puppies for sale! Our Latest Happy Clients! Become A Happy Client! Button Our Story We are a small family kennel in Omaha, whelping only 1 -2 litters a year. We are also a young kennel, working very hard to establish a kennel based on ethics, integrity, and the well-being of our family of dogs. The number of pups is not as important as is the quality of the pups we have to offer. This allows us to continue to improve our genetics with minor changes as we follow our pups through maturity. Customer support is ongoing from the day you take the pup home to the days ahead in the field. Our growth has been primarily through word of mouth and from customers and friends. Read more What Separates us from other Kennels. Again, we are small and focused on a select group of dogs and their litters. Breeding is our focus and our passion. Producing the complete package; temperament, train-ability, desire, confirmation, and instinct. These are the desired end goals for our breeding program. We focus on producing the best pups available. We feel that is a full-time job and we choose to pour our time and energy that part of the dog. Due to our location we do not offer training, however, we have several trainers in Nebraska and near by states we can refer you to. We will do our best to introduce you to 2 or 3 to aid you in your search for a trainer. Mission Statement: To maintain a standard that will continue advancing the quality, character, and reliability of the breed type. To preserve the Labrador Retriever as a working retriever and promote its multipurpose function. Our goal is in the next hundred years, the future generations of our Labrador Retrievers will be hunting and playing with our grandchildren and their children. To know the Lab is to love and admire him. He gives his heart and soul and asks only for a kind word. Each dog we deliver must be one we would want as our personal pet. Why have we chosen to breed Labrador Retrievers? Thanks to their intelligence, eagerness to please, and willingness to work hard, labradors are invaluable workers in a variety of fields. Be prepared for endless energy and love. We provide dogs for multiple reasons. Hunting companions, family pets and service partners. Full AKC Registration. And the way to do that is to only purchase from licensed and reputed breeders. Here are some of the best Labrador breeders in Nebraska. Drake Creek Kennels is an AKC-registered breeder that was founded as a breeding service to produce high-quality Labradors for hunters and dog breeders. As such, they also offer hunting and waterfowl training programs to raise dogs fit for assisting people on the field. In addition to Lab puppies, they also offer stud services for fellow breeders or dog owners that want a litter from their superior male Labs. Since the family business specializes in hunting, the focus on breeding and raising new puppies and related services helps adjust their temperament for dutiful service as opposed to play. Lincoln Creek Labs is a high-quality Labrador breeding kennel located on a farm just north of York, Nebraska. They specialize in raising gundogs, companion, hunt test, and field test dogs, and offer training services that equip dogs with the relevant skill sets. Lincoln Creek is also licensed by the Nebraska Dept. Many of Lincoln Creeks Labs have received honors of merit from reputed dog training and breeding institutions across America. Puppies are looked after with tremendously detailed care to make sure they meet the unique requirements of future adopters. Their Labs are available in black, yellow, and chocolate furs. Address: Road Q, Waco, NE Blue Heaven Labradors This is one of the oldest English Labrador breeders in Nebraska with a year history and reputation for raising excellent service dogs, hunting companions, and competitive show ring dogs. Blue Heaven selects dogs for breeding by focusing strongly on traits like conformity and docile temperament. To accomplish this, they raise puppies with the intention of keeping them as opposed to selling them. This socializes puppies and adapts them to a home-family environment much faster. And Labradors are an easy-going breed to begin with, so that adds to the advantage. You can rest assured your Lab will be a safe and loyal companion to your family.

Skin diseases 1. Respiratory System: One of the important things to mention about this dog breed is that the Boxer dog is a brachycephalic dog breed. It means that their skull has a different shape as compared to another dog. So just like all these dog breeds, Boxer dogs will snore a lot and the reason is their specific skull anatomy. Snoring is not considered a serious health condition. However, it is due to airflow obstruction which can result in some other serious respiratory diseases. Heart Conditions: Having a purebred Boxer puppy, there are likely chances that it will inherit health problems that are specific to its breed. Boxers are medium-sized dogs and are prone to different heart conditions. Heart disease is very common in Boxer puppies so much so that the disease got its name Boxer cardiomyopathy. This condition in Boxer dogs is also known as Arrhythmogenic Right 3. Breathing difficulties, heart murmurs, coughing, fainting and other symptoms can be seen in the early life of these dogs usually during the first year. However, not all Boxer dogs will inherit this condition. Canine hip dysplasia Depending upon the body type and size of the Boxer dog, there are chances that it may suffer from hip dysplasia. This disease is also an inherited trait but this condition can also be due to injuries. Another term used for describing hip dysplasia is dislocation of the hip joint. Usually, you will find this condition in medium to large-sized dog breeds such as German Shepherds, Labrador Retriever, the Great Dane etc. This is a very painful health problem and the dog can feel difficulty in rising and moving and can suffer from depression, lethargy, loss of muscle mass and weakness in the hind legs. Why is it important to choose Reputable Boxer Breeder? Choosing the right Boxer breeder is very important as most things depend on this. You are already familiar that this breed is prone to different health problems. A reputable breeder will do predictive genetic testing and health tests to predict the health risk of Boxer dogs. Moreover, these breeders will happily offer you a health guarantee for Boxer puppies that usually comes with a health certificate. So to ensure that your new Boxer puppy is happy and healthy, always get it from the best Boxer breeder. When it comes to finding the perfect Boxer puppy in Ontario, price is often a major consideration. While there is no definitive answer when it comes to how much a Boxer puppy may cost, there are a few things that can help you budget for your new furry friend. However, depending on the specific breeder and bloodline of your puppy, the price could be higher or lower. In addition to the cost of the puppy itself, there are also a few other expenses to consider when bringing a Boxer into your home. These include things like shots, spaying or neutering, and microchipping. All of these costs can add up, so be sure to factor them into your budget when deciding whether or not a Boxer is the right breed for you. When it comes to finding the perfect Boxer puppy in Ontario, price is certainly something to consider. He is bright and loving. We love him to pieces are so happy to have him as the special addition to our family. Cassidy made the adoption process such a wonderful experience, and we were so impressed with the ethics and standards of Bedford Bostons that we wouldn't have considered getting a pup from anyone else! We have a vet in the family who told us what to look for in a breeder and also in the Boston bloodline, and Bedford Bostons far exceeded all expectations. Thank you soooo much again for holding such high standards in Boston breeding! Although I was initially intimidated by the comprehensive policies and screening process, my communication with Cassidy quickly put me at ease; she is approachable, knowledgeable, passionate, honest and ethical. It is obvious that the pups are home raised with children and well socialized. Our Boston girl, Juno, will soon be 1 year old. She is absolutely delightful with a wonderful disposition and personality; she is by far the best canine companion we have ever had. Thank you Cassidy and Bedford Kennels! There are too many nice things to say about Bedford Bostons, Cassidy and of course my little girl Lilly. Lilly is the apple of my eye. She can do no wrong. Well that is what I think. She is such a little explorer, full of energy and personality to spare. I can't imagine my life without her. Every night she walks up to my pillow and lightly scratches my cheek, I lift up the covers for her and down she goes. I know that every Boston is loved at Bedford Bostons and that is why Lilly and all of her brothers and sisters are so happy and loving in return. Cassidy, I don't think I could have asked for a better breeder. I know you care about every single Boston and that makes all the difference in the world. My little girl came from a loving home and you always make sure your Bostons go to a loving home. Thank you for answering all of my questions during the adoption process because you and I both know there were a lot! It just goes to show that you care. If anyone is ever wanting to adopt a Boston Terrier, they need to get a Bedford Boston from a breeder that truly cares about each and every one of their puppies. Thank you Cassidy! She is a remarkable and reputable breeder. Her love for her dogs and the breed is outstanding. Meeting her and her family confirmed for us that this was right choice. Betty is well mannered, tempered and a fun-loving dog. She is great with the children in her circle and a joy for all the adults. We are very happy to have her in our home and to continue our relationship with Cassidy. Thank you and see you soon! I couldn't have found a better breeder to deal with. From the initial application all the way up until now, she has been a great resource. She takes the time to answer any questions I might have. She works hard to take good care of the dog's she breeds and to find the perfect home for their puppies to go to. When we went to pick up Joey I knew we had made the right choice. She takes the time for you to meet with the dog and make sure the feel is right. You can tell she puts a lot of heart into all her pets and family. Joey is now just about to turn 3! I could not be happier with this match. Joey is such a well natured dog. He loves everything and everyone - including his love hate relationship with our cats. I cannot imagine my life without him! I constantly tell people about Cassidy. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a Boston. I hope to get another one from her in the future! But sometimes life situations dictate that a dog needs to be surrendered. The volunteers at Boxer Rescue Ontario know how difficult it is to make a decision to surrender your dog and we commit that we will take all available measures to facilitate a new loving home for your boxer where he will be happy, healthy and safe! A volunteer from our intake department will get back to you as soon as possible to go over the details. Rescue boxers make wonderful additions to a home, but they require work and commitment. Please read the requirements before completing an application form. Once you submit your application, our volunteers will review it and you may be contacted to set up a phone interview, provided you meet the criteria for the dog s you have applied for. The interview usually takes about 30 minutes and allows us to confirm the details of your application. It also gives us a better idea of what your family and home are like so that we can assess whether the boxer you applied for is a fit. If the boxer is not suitable for your home, and you have asked to keep your application on file, we are in a better position to find a match that would be right for your home. Please, due to the demands on our volunteers time, we are not able to contact all of our approved applicants and provide status updates. Matched with a dog — Successful applicants are matched with a dog. We typically have a large number of applicants interested, but our primary concern is finding the perfect fit for our foster dogs; we do not operate on first come first serve basis. Please be patient through this process. Home visit — After the phone interview and if your application is chosen for one of our dogs a volunteer will contact you to set up a home visit at a suitable time when all members of your household can be present. You will not be permitted to meet one of our foster dogs until the home visit has been successfully completed. This is the opportunity for your family including any dogs you have, to meet our rescue boxer. If all goes well you proceed with the adoption contract and an adoption fee and taking your rescue boxer home that day. Puppies at this age cannot have their vetting completed before adoption and the adopters of puppies are contractually obligated to complete their vetting i. We would happily accept any amount over and above these minimum fees in order to help other dogs in our care. After you adopt we will follow up with your during your initial adjustment period. Remember that we are always available to answer questions and provide help when possible. Please be patient with your newest family member. As big as an adjustment that your family is experiencing it is tenfold for your new boxer. Give them a chance to adopt to their new environment and to become the family member they want to be.

Things to do in Arizona with you English Bulldog English bulldogs are a beloved breed among dog owners worldwide, known for their distinct appearance and loving personality. While they may not be the most active breed, they still enjoy spending time with their owners and being involved in various activities. Here are some ideas: Hiking Arizona is home to a variety of stunning landscapes and hiking trails that are perfect for exploring with your English bulldog. Just make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks for your furry friend, as well as a leash to ensure their safety on the trails Dog Parks Dog parks are a great way to meet other dog owners and allow your furry friend to interact with other dogs in a safe and controlled environment. Just make sure to keep an eye on your bulldog at all times, as they can be prone to overheating and exhaustion in the hot Arizona sun. Swimming While Arizona may be known for its arid climate, there are still plenty of opportunities for your English bulldog to cool off in the water. Many parks and lakes in the state allow dogs to swim, and there are even some dog-specific swimming pools that cater to canine guests. Road Trips Arizona is home to a variety of scenic drives and attractions that are perfect for a road trip with your furry friend. Just make sure to plan ahead and bring plenty of supplies for your bulldog, including food, water, and bedding. Agility Training While bulldogs may not be the fastest or most nimble breed, they can still enjoy agility training and benefit from the exercise and mental stimulation it provides. Look for local agility classes or set up your own obstacle course in your backyard. Just make sure to check ahead to ensure that the establishment is truly pet-friendly and allows dogs inside. Camping There are plenty of pet-friendly campsites throughout the state, as well as national parks and forests that allow dogs on the trails. Just make sure to bring plenty of food, water, and bedding for your furry friend, as well as any toys or games they enjoy playing. Therapy Dog Work English bulldogs are known for their friendly and affectionate personalities, which makes them great candidates for therapy dog work. Just make sure to invest in proper training and certification for your bulldog before starting this type of work. In conclusion, there are plenty of things you can do with your English bulldog in Arizona to keep them happy and healthy. How do you breed for a healthier English Bulldog? Like all things in life, breeding for health is simply a matter of priority. We are blind to many of the breed priorities that distract other breeders from improving the health of the English Bulldog. We focus on health and personality and very little else. We are not interested in winning a blue ribbon in the show ring. Rather, we test for things like elongated soft palates, narrow tracheas, stenotic nares, luxation in the patellar tendons, heart defects, cherry eye, optic cilia, entropion, ect. We focus and prioritize creating healthy bloodlines, therefore our bulldogs are typically much healthier than the breed as a whole. After breeding for health, what other priorities are you focused on? Our true desire is to create the perfect family bulldog. We also believe a bulldog bred for the correct personality is essential to the family unit as well. A Bruiser Bulldog is bred for intelligence and playfulness. We want our bulldogs to be full of personality and some quirk. We believe a full personality along with a little stubbornness is the true North star of the bulldog breed and is what makes the unique among other breeds. We look for these personality traits in our adult bulldogs and continue to create bloodlines that reflect these qualities. What are the steps of your adoption process if I am located in Arizona? Check out our available English Bulldog Puppies page. At times, we have available puppies but almost always have a waiting list as well. A quick look at our available puppies is the starting point to begin the process. Send us an email or give us call .If approved to adopt one of our puppies you are welcome to place a deposit to hold until your puppy is ready to go home. Greetings from the Wysongs! I am familiar with common and uncommon health problems they may face so when my boyfriend and I decided we were ready to adopt our own english puppy finding a reputable breeder that prioritizes health was most important to us. Erica and Mitch of Bruiser Bulldogs are just that. They are experienced, ethical and quality breeders. I was referred to them by my friend that I trust after I saw their gorgeous healthy puppy. Our Puppy Primrose is the light of our lives! Bruisers was there to assist us every step of the way. We would highly recommend Bruisers Bulldogs to anyone looking for their own happy, healthy pup! Leah H. We were lucky to have come across Bruiser Bulldogs and even more so the fact that they were near our family and hometown made it even better. We have had Clementine Callie for four months now, and she is a wonderful dog. Her personality is amazing, and I think part of it is breeding and the other part is Erika and her family lovingly raising the puppies in their home with plenty of attention and snuggles. I also was impressed that, rather than send the puppies out right at 8 weeks, Erika kept ours for a few extra weeks because she was tiny and not read to leave her mom yet. It's that care that differentiates Bruisers from other breeders. Emily R. Erica was easy to work with thru the entire process from application to adopting and now beyond as we host our new family member, Chief. Her on-call support and willingness to provide open, honest advice to all of our questions and concerns continues to be appreciated. We would highly recommend Bruiser Bulldogs to anyone looking for an English Bulldog to join their family. Elizabeth W. Lady L. They are experienced, responsive and knowledgeable about all things bulldog related. They went above and beyond for us and are truly dedicated to all of their pups! We love our little girl so much and would recommend Bruiser to anyone looking for a healthy beautiful bully. Jonathan E. Erica and Mitch are trustworthy, excellent communicators, fair, passionate, and produce the best bulldogs. We were at the top of the waiting list for months and Erica reached out every litter to see if we were finally ready for a bulldog. When we were, she was very easy to work with. Her knowledge on bulldogs is outstanding. We had many questions on the process and she always knew what was best for the puppy. We've had Penny formerly Blair for two months and she is very healthy, energetic, playful, and sweet. She is great with other people and dogs. We are so happy with our pup. When we are ready for bulldog 2, we will only consider Bruiser Bulldogs. Mitch C. Bowser was born April and is an integral part of our family. When we were first exploring English Bulldog breeders our biggest concern was the overall health of the dogs. We decided to work with Erica at Bruiser Bulldogs because we liked their focus on improving the breeds breathing abilities and the fact that the puppies are raised within her family environment before coming home with their new owners. Bowser also breaths clearly and our vet was impressed with his overall health from the moment we brought him home. All that said we know English Bulldogs have a predisposition to many health issues and that his current health can not predict the future. With that In mind its important to start with a breeder that open to answer any of your questions as Erica has ours, and that strongly believes in improving the breeds overall health profile. Adam B. My sister ended up finding Bruiser Bulldogs and we knew right away that they were the breeder for us. In September we ended up driving 9 hours to pick up two Bruiser bulldog puppies- one for my husband and I and one for my mom. Jackson and Penelope have been nothing but a joy. They are both very athletic and healthy. They are also HUGE snugglers and always want to be with you. It is an absolute pleasure having these two bullies in our lives! Erica is very knowledgeable about the breed. She is very hands on throughout the process and is just overall a kind and honest person to work with. With all that being said I cannot recommend Bruiser Bulldogs enough! Collyn C. One of the reasons we chose Bruiser Bulldogs was due to the claims about breeding for health. During our first visit at our vet's office, he told us that our pup was one of the healthiest English bulldogs he had ever seen. He is healthy, happy and social. Would recommend to anyone. Christina S. We seen our dog on their website and sent them an Email. Mitch called us and personally walked us through the process and made sure we had the right dog for our family. We couldn't be happier when we picked up our dog Ramsey, Erica made sure we had everything we needed and then some. They are truly amazing people who breed truly amazing dogs! Jim T. Phoenix now Peanut Phoenix now Peanut We are so sorry to announce the loss of a very special girl to us all. Peanut has suddenly crossed the Rainbow Bridge. A couple months back she started having bad, bad seizures. Her mom was working with her vet very closely to finding the right dose of meds. They found it, but then she got pancreatitis. She died with her mom at home and being loved on. We remember them all in our thoughts and prayers. The day baby Phoenix has been waiting for finally came today. She has her forever family! She also had some early gifts from Santa to take with her. At only 10 months old, Phoenix still has a lot to learn and many years in her happy home. Her forever Mom and Dad are up to the task of helping this little girl grow into adulthood. Phoenix will have a fur sister Gypsy to play with too. Phoenix could not have found a more perfect dog savvy family. Please welcome our newest addition, and she is NEW! At just 3 weeks old and a whopping 2 pounds, meet Phoenix. She was surrendered to rescue soon after birth because her rear legs were inverted. Many thanks to Dr. Larsen and her staff who have dedicated around-the-clock care to Phoenix since her arrival. Please keep her and team in your thoughts so this baby will continue to thrive! At six months old, Phoenix is learning the routine and rules of being in a home. She is a live wire, but winds down with naps in her crate. Phoenix loves toys and sometimes is not so good about sharing her toys with her foster sister. Lots of time and attention are a requirement for this active little girl. Phoenix is a high-energy girl who is learning proper, ladylike manners. She still has a way to go since she is still a puppy… just like an active toddler but with fur. Phoenix wants to be the boss of everyone. Unfortunately, she destroyed this snake. Phoenix is all about her toys and likes to have someone toss her toys around for her. Phoenix is still in puppyhood so toys are essential. Phoenix knows where to do her business but needs to be taken outside regularly and likes a rewarding treat. Phoenix naps and sleeps in her crate. She is working hard to sleep all night. Phoenix is high energy and loves a game of toss outside. She is strong for her size and needs a firm hand. She is working on not jumping as a greeting and a way of getting attention. Phoenix likes other dogs though her siblings are older and not a big fan of being bothered by a puppy. Phoenix will be a great dog and companion but does require time and patience. Phoenix has discovered scissor tails and would love to catch one of these birds. Phoenix is settling down somewhat, but still likes her wee hour potty breaks, which she would love to turn into play time. She loves her toys very much and is definitely the dominant one among the fur kids. She is wondering when she will find her forever home. Phoenix gets along with all creatures but she can be a bit exuberant at times. She is working hard to contain her excitement but sometimes she cannot help her puppy behavior. Phoenix loves playtime best but retreats to the safety of her crate when she is ready for a nap. She needs an active family that can help her perfect her manners. She would much rather play than pose for a Christmas picture. Santa said maybe someone will grant her wish and love her forever. Additional Photos. English Bulldog Description The Bulldog is a small-statured, medium-sized dog, originally bred for working with bulls but trained and bred to fight bulls for sport. This practice began in England in the s and throughout Europe until the mids. Its distinctive undershot bite allowed it to hang on to the bull with amazing strength. Discover more about our English Bulldog puppies for sale below! The shuffling gait is a result of this selection since the dog needed to be able to withstand severe shaking and thumping without having its spine or ribs broken. Bulldogs can move swiftly and make sudden leaps, which accounts for their surprising agility and cleverness. The coat is glossy and fine, with standard colors including, red, white, yellow or a combination of those. Young bulldogs are full of energy, but they slow down as they age. Their appearance makes them great watchdogs, but their personalities make them huge lovers. A Bulldog that understands its place in the human pack with thrive with all people including kids. The English Bulldog is described as very affectionate, dependable, gentle with children but known for its courage and bravery. This breed is good with family pets , but some English Bulldogs can be combative with strange dogs especially if their owners are not present to lead them. Bulldogs are very people-oriented and will seek as much love and attention as they can get; in fact, these dogs require a lot of affection from their owners if they are to thrive and be happy. This breed snores very loudly so buyer beware. This is a trait that these dogs are famous for and it is just a fact of life for them. Most English Bulldog puppies also drool and slobber so they are messy eaters, but most owners find these qualities endearing in their bulldogs. They are also prone to flatulence, especially when fed food other than their regular dog food diet. A once ferocious and tough dog — through select and skilled breeding — the bulldog has become a docile and loving pet and cherished member of countless families. The bulldog is beloved for its patience and affection for children making it an excellent family pet known for being jovial, charming and at times comical though messy. The breed is devoted, obedient and always willing to please, yet preserves its own independent brand of stubbornness present in the bulldog breed. Most of them are pleasant or even aloof towards strangers; however, some can be hostile to unfamiliar dogs, though the breed is compatible with most household pets. The fact is dogs are much happier when they know they follow their human. English Bulldogs can be a bit dominating so their owners are best to show strong leadership and understand alpha canine behavior. This is not a dog to drive around within your car, especially in the Arizona summer months. The breed is prone to mast cell tumors , skin infections, and hip and knee problems. The thing that makes Goldendoodles so incredibly popular as pets — especially with families that have children — is their outgoing personalities and the fact that they have a real zest for life. Vibrant, social dogs, Goldies do tend to be high-energy and boisterous pups right through their lives, which many owners love about them. You need to be prepared for this before deciding to take one of these darling dogs on. Sure, when Goldendoodles are puppies, they may run you ragged with their cheeky, mischievous behavior. After all, all dogs struggle to control their excitement when they are young. Yet, also like other dogs, Goldendoodles, too, do mellow as they age into adults. As they move from the neonatal period to the transition period to the socialization period, they will not only learn vital motor skills and start to play, but they will also begin to develop relationships with the other dogs and people around them. See Also: Click the image This stage is crucial to how your pup continues to relate to other animals and people as they grow. A top-quality breeding facility will ensure their puppies get plenty of handling and exposure to new stimulation. They will also make sure that all time spent around people is very positive for your pup. These early experiences shape how your dog will continue interacting with people throughout their lives. When you finally bring your Goldie home, they will be slap bang in the middle of the first fear stage. This often lasts from 8 weeks up until 10 weeks. Although dogs are very sensitive to new experiences, especially negative ones, during this brief period, a lot of love, delicious treats, and avoiding activities that seem to spook your pet can help them successfully navigate it. The remaining 2 weeks of these vital first 3 months are the best time to get going with their early training. This is when you are going to lock in toilet training and teach your puppy how to behave around the house. Still, they will be well on their way with the basic and most important aspects of training — the actions that will set them up for life. Depending on their Doodle type Standard, Mini, Medium… , they could be anywhere from half to most of the way to their adult size. Yet you will need to remember that they are still very much a puppy in their thinking and how they respond to things. At this time, it will still be all too common for them to become so frantic and over-excited that their good manners and their training go right out the window. See Also: Click the image You may also start to see an increase in undesirable behaviors such as chewing as their teething really ramps up. Keep this in check by providing appropriate chew toys for them to chow down on. This can help save both your belongings and your poor fingers — ouch! Make sure also that during play, you are very consistent in what you are letting your hound get away with. Mouthing behaviors are only natural, but let your dog know when they go too far with loud pain noises. Withdraw from the play altogether when they push things too far. Remember that it is far easy to train proper behavior from the beginning than correct it later in life. Your dog may try to assert their dominance over you at this time. Like teens, adolescent dogs are all about finding their place in the world. This is when that early training is really going to come into play, as you will be able to redirect their negative behavior and reconfirm the boundaries that they are already more than well aware of. Remain vigilant, though, as part of the testing of what they can get away with involves beginning to think about escape. Make thorough use of toys and games throughout this period. See Also: Click the image Adulthood Just when it feels like you have hit the end of your tether for one bouncy pup all about the place, your Goldendoodle will enter adulthood somewhere around months and start to calm down. While some days it may still feel like your cute canine has ingested an entire pot of coffee or turned into a Mexican jumping bean, especially in the first few years of their adult lives, in actuality, they will have much more control of their own behavior now. They should hit their golden years somewhere between 8 and 12 years of age, depending on their size. With that infamous Goldendoodle vivacity, this is especially vital for these pups. A garden is great for bigger dogs as they can happily chase a Kong Toy or something similar about the place, effectively keeping themselves out of trouble. Alternately you could send the kids out with them, and they could all wear each other out, resulting in a lovely peaceful evening for you. If this is not an option, games of fetch in a well-secured dog park can do the trick just as well. A dog-walker can also help take some of the strain of exercising a particularly lively Dood. Mental Stimulation Boredom can be the absolute enemy of calm, especially when something noteworthy does happen, such as the arrival of a visitor or a trip around the block. If your pup is frequently left alone for long hours, you will find that they are extra-especially lively when they finally get their family back home with them and have something to do again and someone to do it with. Again, this is where canine toys can save you a lot of hassle. These days there is an excellent variety of them with some seriously cool features. The thing about Doodles is those Poodle smarts of theirs make them particularly susceptible to boredom. Puzzle toys offer intellectual challenges whereby your pup has to figure out how to get to a tasty treat, for example. This can easily keep them entertained for hours at a time. The result is a much calmer, happier dog who may not even notice when someone does ring the doorbell. See Also: Click the image Training Training and socialization are also both so, SO necessary for helping your Dood manage their own behavior. Socialization gets your pooch accustomed to meeting new people, being in unfamiliar places, and dealing with different dogs and other animals. Training puts specific commands at your fingertips which can be employed when your pup is getting a little too over the top. Positive reinforcement is a good strategy, but be sure you are only reinforcing the behaviors you want to see continued. If you make a fuss of your fur baby when they are running around or jumping up, if you act as delighted to see them as they are to see you, then you are telling them with your actions that this is the right thing to do. Make a real effort to only pay attention to your pooch only once they have calmed themselves down. New Activities If you have the time, then helping your dog learn new tricks and skills can go a long way to keeping them both physically and mentally happy. Canine sports were practically invented for these offspring of working dogs. They excel at so many of them and will thoroughly enjoy participating. These kinds of activities also serve to reinforce and extend their basic training giving you even more commands you can use for behavior control. Goldendoodles are also big fans of the great outdoors in all its forms. Goldies, being the descendants of two water-loving breeds, will also likely love the chance to swim and hang about in streams, lakes, rivers, and the ocean. Too much of certain kinds of foods could heighten energy to unmanageable levels. Also, take care with the amount that you are feeding your dog each day. Likewise, snacks can cause issues here. A surprising number of calories can be found in even the tiniest treats. If you are using these for training, you may consider switching them out for a clicker or praise-based methods. If your food-focused friend is clearly never going to go for that, a surprising alternative is frozen vegetable treats. These seem to go down very well with most Doodles, according to their owners. A commonly held belief with canines is that getting them fixed can help them to be calmer, and there is some truth in this. Your puppy will likely be every bit as rowdy, but your older dog will be less of a puppet to their hormones. Goldendoodle puppies, like all other puppies, are feisty, fast, playful little things. This lasts a lot longer than you might think, given how quickly they grow to their adult size. Somewhere between 12 and 18 months of age, your dog will mature, and this will be when you will see them having a little more control. Although, they will likely be every bit as energetic as they ever were. This can be tempered somewhat through exercise and play. Is it normal for a Goldendoodle to be energetic? High-energy levels are a feature of the Goldendoodle breed and a trait that they inherit from their intelligent, working-dog parents. In this respect, it is perfectly normal for your Goldie to enjoy plenty of walks and fun. How often should I walk my Goldendoodle puppy? Daily walks are a necessity for every dog, although some breeds require a longer time outdoors than others. Goldendoodles have quite high exercise needs compared to some of the smaller, more sedate Doods. Although this will need to be tailored to their age, a good rule of thumb is to exercise them for five minutes per month of their age — twice a day. So, with a 4-month puppy, two minute walks a day would be sufficient to keep them happy and healthy. Although energy levels of these fine canines vary depending on age, life stage, and individual differences, they do tend to be at the higher end of the spectrum. For this reason, they do best in high-energy family homes or with people willing to take them on plenty of long hikes and with both a garden and the time to play with them. If you think that you can offer a Goldie that kind of life, then you will, no doubt, end up adoring your newest family member almost but not quite as much as they will adore you. But fret not! We assure you that calm days are on the horizon. However, many Goldendoodle owners often find themselves wondering why their furry companions are so hyper. In this blog post, we will delve into the reasons behind their high energy levels and provide assurance that they will eventually calm down. Why is my Goldendoodle so hyper? Their hyperactivity can be attributed to a combination of factors: Breed Traits: Golden Retrievers and Poodles are known for their playful and energetic nature. Goldendoodles inherit these traits, which contribute to their overall hyper behavior. Energy Level: Goldendoodles are an active breed that requires regular exercise and mental stimulation to keep them engaged. If they don't receive enough physical and mental outlets, they may exhibit hyperactive behavior. Youthful Exuberance: Like most young dogs, Goldendoodles have a surplus of energy. They may display hyperactivity as a result of their youthful enthusiasm, which tends to mellow out as they mature. At what age do Goldendoodles mellow out? Goldendoodles generally start to mellow out as they grow older. However, the exact age at which they calm down can vary from dog to dog. Here are some general guidelines: Puppy Stage months During this stage, Goldendoodle puppies are filled with boundless energy and curiosity. They require frequent playtime, training, and socialization to channel their energy positively. Adolescence months This is a transitional phase where Goldendoodles experience hormonal changes. They may exhibit bursts of energy, occasional disobedience, and increased curiosity. Consistent training, exercise, and mental stimulation are crucial during this period. Young Adult years By the time Goldendoodles reach their first or second year, they typically start to mellow out. Their energy levels gradually decrease, and they become more focused and attentive. However, they may still have bouts of playfulness and require regular exercise. Do Goldendoodles calm down after being spayed? Spaying for females or neutering for males Goldendoodles can have a positive impact on their behavior. These procedures often lead to a reduction in hormone-driven behaviors, such as hyperactivity and roaming tendencies. How to Calm Down Your Goldendoodle Goldendoodles, known for their exuberant energy, may occasionally require assistance in calming down. Here are a few tips to help you achieve a more relaxed state for your furry friend. Engage in daily walks, play fetch, or provide interactive toys that encourage movement. Adequate exercise helps burn off excess energy and promotes relaxation. Mental Stimulation: Alongside physical exercise, mental stimulation is crucial to calm a hyper Goldendoodle. Puzzle toys , treat-dispensing toys , and training sessions can keep their minds occupied, preventing boredom and restlessness. Establish a Routine: Dogs thrive on routine. Create a consistent daily schedule for feeding, exercise, playtime, and rest. A predictable routine helps your Goldendoodle anticipate and adapt, reducing anxiety and hyperactivity. Enforce Boundaries: Establishing clear boundaries and rules is essential for any dog. Train your Goldendoodle using positive reinforcement techniques, rewarding calm and obedient behavior. Consistency and patience are key to shaping their behavior. Provide a Calm Environment: Create a calm and peaceful atmosphere in your home. Use soothing music, provide a cozy bed or den, and limit exposure to excessive noise or excitement. A tranquil environment can help your Goldendoodle relax and unwind. Consider Professional Training: If your Goldendoodle's hyperactivity persists or becomes challenging to manage, seeking guidance from a professional dog trainer or behaviorist can be beneficial. They can provide specialized training techniques and personalized advice to address specific behavioral issues. By combining exercise, mental stimulation, consistent training, and a peaceful environment, you can help your Goldendoodle achieve a state of relaxation and contentment. If you find your Goldendoodle to be hyperactive, it's important to remember that it's a natural characteristic of the breed, particularly in their younger years. Through consistent training , ample exercise, and mental stimulation, you can help your Goldendoodle channel its energy positively and promote a calmer demeanor as they mature. Related articles:. When Do Goldendoodles Calm Down? These cute pups are known for their energy and excitable nature, this is a perfect addition to your family, but you need to know how to manage the excitable moods. Like most breeds of puppies, as they age, they will become calmer. Most Goldendoodles will start to calm around months of age. People can sometimes feel confused as puppy teeth are lost at months, but you can still expect excitable behavior for months after this. When doodles are less than a year old, they generally have surplus energy, leading to intense periods of play and longer naps. So, if your doodle is larger, their puppy behavior can be harder to deal with as they have more strength; this can be difficult for an owner. Three Stages Of Aging There is a general three-stage experience that most Goldendoodles progress through. This will occur in most Goldendoodles but can vary. Do note that if your Goldendoodle is quiet and tired, this could signal something is wrong; always consult a professional opinion if this is the case. Puppy stage expect constantly high energy Adult stage still high energy, but gradually lessening Senior stage more restful These dogs tend to spend most of their lives in the second adult phase, but the most energetic stage is the first one. If you are looking for what size crate to get for your goldendoodle, click HERE Tips And Tricks Even though crazy energy is expected from your pup, you may want to find some resources or games that can help manage this behavior. Over excitement is expected from Goldendoodles, so these tips will not get rid of it. These are great ways to stop the energy from becoming undesirable behavior, though. In the early stage puppyhood , diversion and prevention are the best ways to minimize overexcitement. Most dog breeds need a healthy walk or play daily to tire themselves out; in this case, Goldendoodles have so much energy that this is one of the most important aspects of caring for one. If your doodle is overactive, it can help to take an hour of walk time daily to burn some of that energy. However, you may see an energy spike from just one missed session. A bonus tip for a good walk is to go somewhere where they can run around off-leash; this is great for an energy-filled doodle. Getting your dog active is the first step to take if you want to manage their behavior. Toys Can Be Helpful Playing fetch with sticks is a classic game and can help with overactive doodles, but consider investing in some specialized toys. If doodles are bored, they can become excited when something unusual happens, resulting in a crazy episode. Mental stimulation through toys can result in fewer overreactions and seemingly calmer behavior. Even a simple chew toy can help relieve stress, helping to reduce barking and overstressed out behaviors. Indoor dog games and toys are great, allowing doodles to play without the hassle of scheduling outside time. Good toys are rubber chew toys, tennis balls, stuffed animals, flavored toys, ropes, treat dispensers, puzzles, and squeaky toys. Note that squeaky toys are a favorite — so if you buy one, you will be putting up with additional noise! Scent Training Scent training or nose work is a simple pastime for Goldendoodles and can wear them out mentally and physically. This is also a great indoor activity. Inability to focus and lack of concentration are standard crazy doodle behavior. Scent training can be done at home to engage their attention and promote calmness. Good hides for Goldendoodles are boiled chicken, dried liver snacks, or even grated cheese; see what your dog reacts best with. Once your dog has found the hide, reward them with an extra set of treats. As you play, progressively make each hide more challenging to engage them. This could be done by placing hides in a plastic container that makes an interesting noise, getting your dog to reach into boxes with their nose, or reducing the number of hides but putting out extra boxes to search through. The increase in difficulty will help boost self-assuredness; while doodles often have self-confidence, this is still an excellent exercise for them. Sniffing is mentally and physically tiring for a Goldendoodle, which can help use up their crazy energy. However, it can help assess how you and your family react to their bouts of energy. This can reinforce the behavior, and the cycle repeats. Some even suggest practicing bringing the energy level down during playtimes. Try playing for a couple of minutes and then being calm for one. This shows your doodle the difference between play and calm and can help them get used to both. We can all be so busy with work and our lives, so scheduling in walkies can be difficult. Dog walkers are easy to find these days; thanks to the internet, try some helpful dog-walking apps, such as Rover, to connect with trusted walkers. This can take some of the pressure off of you and can keep your doodle active. A bonus to getting some help with walking is that if your doodle is extra active, you also have extra energy to play with them if someone has helped you walk them! Remember To Be Calm Sometimes if we are stressed, dogs can sense this and become anxious too. This can then lead to over-excitement, and undesirable behavior, which in turn stresses us again, and the cycle keeps escalating. Calm yourself and then calm your dog; practice just relaxing sitting around your dog. This is a great way to teach them patience and to help you not react to their energy. When your doodle sits calmly, remember to praise them for being good. Practicing a sit command is always a good way to train your dog; it helps create patience and be easy going about things that excite them. Overactive Behavior When A Goldendoodle Is Older Once the puppy stage is over, a reduction in energy levels and manic behavior is expected. Goldendoodles are fun and excitable for life! Excessive Barking Sometimes learned behaviors from puppyhood will continue later on in their lives, for example, problem chewing or excessive barking. This needs to be dealt with earlier to nip them in the bud. There are strategies and training to curb this problem, and it can be linked to learned puppy behaviors. Strategies include playing tricks and babying the doodle; you may also have to block out windows to stop excessive barking. If this action becomes painful, biting, or continues after 12 months of age, it can be time to seek advice from a professional or start at-home training. Play biting should stop significantly when the puppy teeth have been replaced; this should be at approx 8 months of age. However, the general rule of thumb is that by 3 years of age, they should not be hyper or crazy anymore. The key to addressing crazy doodles is to redirect the problem behaviors and to use positive reinforcement. Tackle each problem e. It is this curiosity that can lead even the gentlest and kindest Goldendoodle into becoming a bit naughty. Even if your Goldendoodle is a standard or larger size — they will still mentally be a puppy for a long time. Even if they are so tall that they can stretch upright and be taller than you! Larger sized Goldendoodles sometimes give their owners slightly more hassle with the frenetic energy. This is not because larger sized Goldendoodle is more likely to be crazy — it is because their antics and power are more destructive because of their size. We just need to expect Goldendoodle puppies to be frantic, overexcited, and sometimes to get so wound up they forget their manners. Positive reinforcement and food as a motivating treat ned to be used form early on to start the glacially slow training process for a crazy Goldendoodle. So when should you expect change? If left unchecked, it will annoy neighbors and just be a general nuisance! Our Goldendoodles may be smart — but sometimes we have to baby them and play tricks like warning the postman OR blocking out windows to stop excessive barking. These are soft non harming nips that do not hurt the owner or pierce the skin. If this transitions into biting OR continues after 12 months of age — you need to quickly implement at-home training or seek advice from a professional. Thank goodness the biting and chewing stopped after she lost her baby teeth at 6 months. The rest of the crazy only really reduced at around age 2. Marlie is still very active and cheerful, but we love her, and it is very manageable. We keep him extremely active and tire him out daily to reduce the craziness. This is always a good start and only requires you to say one word evenly and wait for them to sit, which they are likely to do eventually anyway. Reward them after they sit and only bring your energy up as you give them positive reinforcement. Are All Goldendoodles High Energy? Goldendoodles generally tend to be bred in a way that makes them high-energy dogs. If you know anything about golden retrievers, you know that they are very playful. Goldendoodles tend to be more hyper during their puppy stage, which is to be expected. The two breeds of dogs that they are bred from are both hard-working dogs. Golden retrievers are used to guide the disabled, and poodles are classic show dogs who are used to intensive training and running around. Goldendoodles are known to zoom around your house, acting spastic and excited. They love to play and spend a lot of time trying to get you to play with them or entertaining themselves. They can do things to let you know they have too much energy in them and need to let it out. Some Goldendoodles seem to have more hyperactive behavior because of health concerns or behavioral concerns like separation anxiety. Excesive licking, problem barking, and problem chewing can all result from this issue. You can help to boose self assuredness in your dog and make a habit of activities to promote calmness. Destroying Things Chewing on things and destroying their toys or your furniture is a good hint that your Goldendoodle has a high energy level. Most of the time, with these types of things, the best solution is more exercise in their daily routine or more playtime. Getting Tired Quickly When your Goldendoodle is zooming around only to pass out suddenly directly after, they need more exercise to let out sudden bursts of energy. Barking and Whining Excessively Your dog will literally tell you that they are feeling high energy. They will bark and whine at you, begging you to help them let it all out. It can sometimes seem like the hyper Goldendoodle years will never end. However, there is a certain point in time where a Goldendoodle will start to settle into your home and lose a bit of that hyperactivity. A Goldendoodle, around the age of eight to fifteen months, will start to slowly find a sense of calmness. They will continue to lose energy as they get older; however, Goldendoodles are naturally friendly and happy dogs. Generally, at this age, the zoomies of the puppy years should decrease overall. They certainly are hyper for longer than some of the other dog breeds and can still get a little crazy even when grown up. In Conclusion Yes, Goldendoodles are hyper dogs, but they will calm down with age. Helping your hyperactive Goldendoodle requires patience and calmness on your part, as well. The upside of spending extra time with your pup is that you will form an amazing bond as he grows! Are Mini Goldendoodles Hyper? Why is My Goldendoodle So Crazy? Goldendoodles are high-energy dogs, especially during their puppy stage. Giving more exercise or playtime, training, and supplying toys are effective ways to calm hyper Goldendoodles. Exercise outlets can include long walks, dog parks, fetch, and playtime with other dogs. Toys can relieve stress and provide mental stimulation. Goldendoodles are bred from two hard-working breeds, making them energetic. Signs of a hyper Goldendoodle include pulling on the leash, destructive behavior, and excessive barking. They have tons of energy that make them capable of almost anything they want to do. But do they have too much energy? Are Goldendoodles hyper? They can definitely be a hyper energy-filled ball of fun, especially in their puppy through adolescent years. Both the Poodle and the Golden Retriever are high-energy dogs bred for hard work and sport. In fact, their activity and energy level is often a trait that attracts people to the Goldendoodle breed in the first place. What Effects Their Energy Level? Goldendoodle dogs are much like humans in that each one is different. Each Goldendoodle dog has qualities that affect their energy level. One of the biggest factors affecting the energy level is their age. Goldendoodle puppies are filled with energy and love playing, but they also spend a great deal of time napping. They wake up, eat, play and take a nap. As they get older, their need for naps decreases, but their energy level increases. This is another area where puppies are similar to children. This canine adolescent period is usually when the dog is between 6 months and a year old, but it can go as old as 18 months in some dogs. This article explains in greater detail how long it typically takes a Goldendoodle to fully mature both mentally and physically. Goldendoodle Exercise Needs Like humans and every other breed of dog, Goldendoodles need regular exercise to keep them happy and healthy. Unlike humans, who often balk at the idea of regular exercise, Goldendoodles not only require exercise but also crave and love exercise. Providing your Goldendoodle with regular exercise should begin as soon as you bring him home, which is usually at about 8 to 10 weeks of age. A six-month-old should receive about 30 minutes of exercise each day. This exercise can be broken down into two sessions per day. See our Complete Goldendoodle Exercise Guide for tips and creative ideas for providing your Doodle with enough physical activity. As the Goldendoodle ages, his exercise needs will vary from one dog to the next. One Goldendoodle may need two to three minute sessions per day while another may do well with only 20 minutes per day and be happy as a couch potato the rest of the day. In addition to regular physical exercise, your Goldendoodle also requires mental stimulation. They are very intelligent dogs and may become bored very quickly without adequate mental stimulation. Provide them with brain games and puzzles, like this disc-shaped treat puzzle on Amazon , that will not just occupy their mind but also help them wear off excess energy. Kong toys especially and similar interactive toys and puzzles are very popular with Goldendoodle dogs. Your Goldendoodle will love any kind of treat-dispensing toys that require he uses his brain. We share even more ideas in our mental stimulation guide. Most Goldendoodle owners provide the dog with exercise by taking them for daily walks or playing fetch. For Goldendoodles that think fetch is the greatest sport ever and most of them do , consider using a ball launcher, like this one , that allows you to throw for greater distances without wearing out your arm. Because both of the breeds used to create the Goldendoodle were originally bred to be water retrievers, swimming is usually a favorite among Goldendoodles too. Just be sure to follow these safety tips whenever your Doodle is enjoying some water-time fun. These tried-and-true exercise routines are beneficial and enjoyed by most dogs because they involve interaction and one-on-one time with their owners. Get Your Copy Today! Training and Tricks However, sometimes a Goldendoodle may have so much excess energy that routine exercise sessions may not be adequate for the dog. There are many tricks or commands you can teach the dog beyond the basic sit, down, stay, come, and heel commands. Goldendoodles love challenges and learning new things. Instead of giving him 20 minutes of training each session, gradually increase it by 5 minutes until you can see a difference in the dog. They love the outdoors and love running and jumping. Agility exercises will not only provide the dog with adequate exercise but can also prepare the dog for actual agility competitions. Goldendoodles are smart enough to learn all kinds of tricks and new skills. Here are some signs that your Goldendoodle is not getting enough exercise. Excessive leash pulling — If your dog is pulling on the leash when you go for walks, he may have too much energy and may not be getting enough exercise. For a more pleasant walk, consider letting him run a little or play fetch before you take him out for a walk. Gaining weight — If your Goldendoodle has been gaining weight without increasing his food intake, he may not be getting sufficient exercise. More hyper than usual — If your dog appears to be loaded with more energy than normal, he might be in need of more exercise. Lack of Endurance — If your dog seems to be getting tired quicker than usual, he might be out of shape and need to have the length of his exercise sessions increased. Your Goldendoodle should be able to walk 30 to 45 minutes without showing signs of being exhausted. Whining or barking — Dogs that are bored and in need of more exercise will often whine and bark for attention. Goldendoodles may have been around for a couple of decades, but they are still a relatively new breed of dog. Although this hybrid breed may be unfamiliar to many people, those who do own Goldendoodles will positively tell you that Goldendoodles are very good dogs , whether their purpose is a family pet, companion dog, service animal, hunting dog or therapy dog. Their intelligence and temperament make them ideal for most situations. Their allergy-friendly coat is an added bonus. Are Goldendoodles Cuddly? Despite their high energy levels, few things make them happier than lounging and cuddling with their owners on the couch after a long full day. In Summary… Unfortunately, too many dogs are mistakenly labeled as hyper dogs when all they needed was more exercise. Goldendoodle dogs are the result of an excellent idea by breeders looking for a good family or companion dog. Although Goldendoodles can be ideal family companions in practically every way, some effort on your part will be needed to guide them as they grow. Grab your copy today! Because he is a newer generation crossbreed, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix is not yet recognized by the American Kennel Club AKC , although several other kennel clubs around the world have started to recognize this mix. This is a crossbreed that has become quite common these days, and he is expected to continue to grow in popularity as time goes on. That said, there has also been a lot of debate when it comes to whether or not this mix is actually a good idea to breed and sell to the general public of dog enthusiasts. To properly understand this crossbreed and what makes him tick, it is important to take a closer look at his parent breeds. The Rhodesian ridgeback is a purebred dog that was originally developed in the province of Zimbabwe, formerly known as Rhodesia. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is famous for his agility, intelligence, and ability to withstand the harsh conditions of Africa. With that being said, there are still many people who rely on this breed for working purposes. There is no denying that the Rhodesian Ridgeback is a beautiful dog. This breed is very athletic, muscular, sleek, and strong. Still, Rhodesians can be stubborn and even develop aggressive tendencies if they are not properly trained and socialized. They are also incredibly active dogs, so they require loads of exercise in order to stay happy and healthy. Meet The Labrador Retriever The Labrador Retriever is a family favorite thanks to his perfect mix of enthusiasm, playfulness and gentleness. Their endearing personalities and adorable appearance helped solidify them as winning family companions. Labrador Retrievers are some of the top most sought after working dogs not only in the United States, but also the world. They serve as search and rescue dogs, therapy dogs, serviced dogs, police dogs, and more. The crossbreed controversy. Hybrid vigor. Designer dog breeds? It all sounds like nonsense but the terms are real and have been the epicenter of national controversy amongst canine enthusiasts for years. You might have heard about crossbred dogs. They are the latest trend in the canine kingdom. Crossbreed dogs are believed to have hybrid vigour: An overall fitness and a healthier body than their purebred counterparts. And while this concept does seem promising, it is not widely accepted by all experts when it comes to crossbreeding dogs. Over the last two decades, crossbreed dogs like the Rhodesian Ridgeback have made a breakthrough and are now considered as popular to own, if not more popular to own, than their purebred counterparts. However, while many dog lovers might fall in love with the physical features of a crossbreed dog like the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix, the health and life expectancy of this type of dog is a real gray area. Outside of health, earlier generation crossbreed dogs may also be unpredictable when it comes to temperament and appearance. So, what can you expect when it comes to raising a Rhodesian Ridgeback? Keep reading to find out. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix Temperament This is a mixed breed that is known to be friendly and affectionate with children. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix is an eye-catching crossbreed dog with distinctive features and various other traits that make him a wonderful addition to the right household. As a companion dog, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix is outstanding. They are known to be loyal, obedient, and excellent with youngsters. There are various reasons that people cross-breed these two breeds to create a Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix puppy. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix can be a wonderful pet to the right individual or family as they are highly trainable and intelligent. If properly raised and socialized, Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix dogs can also make great guard dogs. Although the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix is a relatively friendly dog, he can also be an independent thinker who will make his own decisions. Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mixes make great family companions, and they even have the potential to do well in apartments or smaller spaces so long as their exercise needs are routinely met. However, these dogs can have a high prey drive and without early socialization and training they can develop serious behavioral issues like depression, aggressive tendencies, anxiety, and more. The key to a well trained dog is effective early training and socialization. When it comes to Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix training, the process needs to begin at an early age to ensure it is most effective. The good news is that, due to their genetic makeup, this is a mixed breed that reaches full maturity at the ripe old age of two years or so. This means that the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix has a socialization period that is fairly long in comparison to other breeds or mixes. Along with socialization, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix will also need to be properly trained at an early age. The process of training this hybrid should begin very early in its life and will require lots of time, consistency, patience, and attention. One of the most effective ways to train your Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix puppy is to use positive reinforcement training methods. These methods include the use of treats, praise, and patience as opposed to punishments, scolding, or fear. One of the most powerful tools in positive reinforcement dog training is food. Food is used to celebrate successes and also to reward desired behaviors in your Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix. This is vital when it comes to the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix who, by nature, can be somewhat stubborn and hard-headed. High value dog treats include treats that are about the size of a pea, and treats that are very smelly and very chewy. These treats are all natural dog treats that include quality ingredients like real meat protein. We especially like the salmon soft dog treats! They are only 4 calories per treat, making them ideal for free or rapid feeding when utilizing them for specific training methods. We also like that these treats are made without any artificial preservatives, flavors or ingredients like wheat, soy or gluten. They are even ideal for dogs with sensitive stomachs or for dogs who struggle with weight or obesity issues. Rhodesian Lab Mix dogs need consistent exercise beginning at an early age. A lot of Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix owners might be confused about how much exercise this mix really needs. A cross between the herd-working Rhodesian Ridgeback and the water-loving Labrador Retriever, you should expect that the Rhodesian Ridgeback mix will need at least two hours of dedicated exercise each and every day. Long hikes, jogs, runs, and swims are all great ways to help keep your dog in shape and to reduce pent up stress or anxiety. Keep in mind that the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix is a powerful, work-oriented dog that needs to be able to move around freely and run regularly. For this reason, he is best suited for homes with securely fenced in yards where he can romp around at his leisure. However, there is an exception to this rule if you are an especially active dog owner who is able to provide your dog with the amount of proper exercise he needs each day in order to thrive. We recommend using a no pull dog harness when you take your Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix out for walks. The above PetSafe Easy Walk Dog Harness is a safe and effective solution for pulling dogs as it allows you to control pulling by redirecting your dog back to you if he gets ahead. Mental Stimulation Along with proper physical exercise, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is also going to need routine mental stimulation each and every day. Keep in mind that this mix comes from two parent breeds with working origins, and without a job to do the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix could be prone to boredom, anxiety, stress, and destructive behaviors. Many dog owners wonder how much mental stimulation a Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix needs to be truly happy. Some owners believe that just because their dog loves to run around outside or chew on various toys that they are receiving enough mental stimulation. But to truly understand what your Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix needs, you must observe his instincts and breed traits. Mental stimulation for a Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix is a very important element of pet care. This type of activity can help to keep your Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix happy and healthy for long periods of time, reducing destructive chewing or other behavioral issues in the home. This rubber dog toy is excellent for an assortment of games of fetch, or it can be played with and chewed on its own. The product is made from sturdy, natural rubber, so it is safe for heavy chewers. Overall, Rhodesian Labradors will make a great addition to any family. This breed is not for everyone, and potential owners should be prepared to commit to a challenging yet rewarding training regime. The Rhodesian Labrador is an intelligent breed, and early socialization is essential. These dogs need plenty of exercise, both mental and physical, and they thrive when given a job to do. With firm yet compassionate training, the Rhodesian Labrador can make a loyal and obedient companion. However, without proper guidance, this breed can be destructive, and even dangerous. Potential owners should research the training needs of this breed before making the commitment to add a Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix to their family. Rhodesian Labrador — Are they Aggressive? This mix combines the best of both parent breeds, resulting in a dog that is loyal, affectionate, and intelligent. However, some potential owners may be concerned about whether this mix is aggressive. While it is true that both the Rhodesian Ridgeback and the Labrador Retriever are known for being protective of their families, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix is not an aggressive dog. In fact, these dogs are typically very good-natured and eager to please. With proper training and socialization, they can make excellent companions for families with children. Rhodesian Labrador — How much exercise do they need? While every dog is different, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix is generally a high-energy breed that needs plenty of daily exercise. A long walk or run is a great way to burn off excess energy, and playing fetch or Frisbee is also a good option. This breed is known for being intelligent and independent-minded, so they need plenty of mental stimulation to stay happy and healthy. Other good options include agility training, nose work, and obedience classes. With the right environment, this mix can thrive both physically and mentally. Rhodesian Labrador — Grooming The Rhodesian Labrador is an active breed that requires regular grooming. Daily brushing is necessary to remove dead hair and prevent matting. The coat should also be trimmed every few weeks to keep it looking neat. In addition, the nails should be trimmed regularly, and the ears should be cleaned to prevent infection. With proper care, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix will be a healthy and active dog that is a joy to have as part of the family. Rhodesian Labrador — Are they Healthy? This hybrid combines the best traits of both parent breeds, resulting in a loyal, affectionate, and active dog that is well-suited to a variety of lifestyles. While they are generally healthy dogs, there are some health conditions to be aware of. For example, like all large breed dogs, they are susceptible to hip and elbow dysplasia. With proper care and nutrition, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix can make a wonderful addition to any family. Rhodesian Labrador — Nutrition The Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix is a large, athletic dog that requires a nutritious diet to maintain its energy and health. High-quality protein is also essential for this mix, as it helps to build strong muscles and supports the immune system. You may want to choose a food that contains a blend of proteins from both animal and plant sources. And because this breed loves to play, healthy fat content is also important for providing sustained energy throughout the day. Rhodesian Labrador — Dog Friendly? Due to their strong hunting instincts, Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mixes may not be the best fit for a home with small pets. They tend to get along well with other dogs, and they are often very patient with children. Rhodesian Labrador — Child Friendly? They are known for being great with children and are quite patient with them. They are also relatively easy to train. This includes socialization and training. Rhodesian Labrador — Drooling Levels These dogs are playful and friendly, but they also have a reputation for being heavy droolers. While every dog is different, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix is likely to inherit this trait from both of its parent breeds. You can also keep a stash of dog treats on hand to distract your dog when he starts to drool excessively. With a little patience and preparation, you can enjoy all the perks of owning a Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix without the drool! They are not prone to excessive barking, and they are generally well-behaved. However, like all dogs, they may bark when they are excited or anxious. Labrador Retrievers, on the other hand, are known for being vocal dogs. They tend to bark more than other breeds, and they can be quite loud. So, what happens when you mix a Rhodesian Ridgeback with a Labrador Retriever? The result is a dog with moderate barking levels. This breed is not as quiet as a Rhodesian Ridgeback, but they are also not as vocal as a Labrador Retriever. They will bark when they are excited or nervous, but it is not excessive. Overall, this breed makes a good choice for those who want a dog that is not too quiet or too vocal. Rhodesian Labrador — Adaptability to Weather One of the most appealing things about the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix is its adaptability to different weather conditions. Due to their short coats, they do not do well in cold weather and should be kept indoors during the winter months. However, their thick fur provides excellent insulation against hot weather, making them ideal for outdoor activities in the summer. Whether you live in a hot or cold climate, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix is a versatile breed that can adjust to your climate. This is a relatively long lifespan for a dog, and it is due in part to the fact that both of the parent breeds are relatively healthy. However, some individual dogs may live longer or shorter depending on factors such as diet, exercise, and genetics. Overall, the Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix is a robust and long-lived breed of dog. However, many dog lovers believe that it is only a matter of time before this breed receives official recognition. In the meantime, those who are lucky enough to own one of these special dogs can take pride in knowing that they have a truly unique pet. Rhodesian Labrador — Puppy Prices Puppy prices for Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mixes can vary depending on the breeder and the area you live in. The price will also depend on whether the parents are full-blooded Rhodesian Ridgebacks or Labrador Retrievers. If you are looking for a specific color or coat type, you may have to pay more. For example, puppies with blue eyes are often more expensive than those with brown eyes. Ultimately, the best way to find a Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab mix puppy is to research breeders in your area and compare prices. This will help ensure that you are getting a healthy puppy from a reputable source. These dogs inherit many of the best qualities from both of their parent breeds. They are intelligent, loyal, and loving dogs that make great family pets. They are also relatively easy to train and are known for being good around children. However, like all crossbreeds, there is some degree of variation in appearance and temperament between individual dogs. As such, it is important to do your research before you bring one of these dogs into your home. Thanks for reading! Rhodesian Ridgeback Lab Mix. They are renowned for great qualities including loyalty, health, and friendliness, and come in a variety of shapes, colors, and sizes. In recent years, however, a new trend in crossbreeds has grown to the point where it is the height of fashion. This is the trend to breed two different purebred dogs together, creating a new and exciting hybrid breed, commonly known as a designer dog. The Rhodesian Labrador, or Labradesian, as it is sometimes known, is just one of these breeders creations, and one that is growing very quickly in popularity. This is not surprising since they are a mix of both breeds involved traits and appearance, creating an absolutely fantastic designer dog. The Rise Of The Designer Dog Before we can look closer at the Rhodesian Labrador, it would be useful to understand the craze of the designer dog and how and why it came about. Designer dogs have, as you are about to find out, their advantages and disadvantages that you will want to consider before deciding whether to get one. Designer dogs, unlike most cross breeds, have parents that are both purebred. The decision to breed them is always conscious, and the intention is to create a specific hybrid dog. Breeds are chosen on the basis of producing a mix of certain temperaments and looks. There are no guarantees, however, what combination of these you will achieve. Whilst not knowing exactly what traits you are going to conjure up by breeding two purebred dogs together may be a slight disadvantage of owning a designer dog, there is a huge advantage that truly outweighs it. This involves the highly important issue of canine health. Conventional wisdom states that mixed breeds are consistently healthier than their purebred counterparts. This is because pure breeds are bred from the same gene pool, and a limited one, that often involves familial genes. Known as inbreeding this practice can lead to all sorts of health issues that can affect your beloved family pet. Cross breeding to create a hybrid designer dog, on the other hand, allows the gene pools to open right up. Dogs that are used come from two entirely different gene pools meaning that recessive genes that carry health problems are buried. The result of this? A far healthier bred dog that requires fewer visits to the vets and lives a longer, happier life! Whilst the Rhodesian Labrador is a relatively new addition to the designer dog family, and the success of breeding them for health purposes is relatively unknown, it has been known to succeed in other hybrid mixes. A Brief Overview Of The Rhodesian Labrador The Rhodesian Labrador is generally a good looking, gentle, loving, yet determinedly headstrong breed that makes the perfect family pet. They are large and energetic, share a strong bond with their humans, and can outplay even the most playful child. Though they love being outdoors, and all activities outdoorsy, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is not an outside dog. Rather, they need to be tucked up inside sharing your treats and sofa, if allowed, and not outside in a kennel. They love nothing more, so be prepared, than to relax across your knee during quiet time. Training brings out the best in the Rhodesian Labrador, so be ready to put some time and effort into doing this. Untrained, this breed may get a little on the domineering side, which you definitely do not want. Training needs to be firm but fair with the Rhodesian Labrador responding best to positive reinforcement. You should also be aware that the Rhodesian Labrador is a protective breed of a dog that will be wary of strangers and may posture. This is not, however, this breed being aggressive, as they are not, rather they are simply warning the perceived threat away. Finally, it is worth mentioning that if you are looking for a breed of a dog that can be registered as a pedigree with the American Kennel Club, then the Rhodesian Labrador is not that dog. This hybrid breed currently is not accepted by them as a breed of its own. This is because, as we have already stated, the hybrid that is the Rhodesian Labrador can be a mix of any, all of, or even none of their individual traits. The Rhodesian Ridgeback A true working dog that has been used to hunt and retrieve game, protect the family, and property, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is a refined crossbreed in itself. It was established in the early 16th century when dogs of the Boer settlers were bred with tribe dogs such as the Khoikhoi, Mastiff, Deerhound, and Great Dane. A couple of centuries later, in , the Reverend Helm brought two of these wonderful dogs to Matabeleland. Here, people soon learned of their prowess when it came to being used as hunting dogs, and began to use them themselves. As we now know, lion killer is not strictly true as though the Rhodesian Ridgeback was indeed used to hunt lions, they never actually killed them. Rather, they hunted lion down, cornering them until their owner could catch up and deal with them. This bravery added to the loyalty that the Rhodesian Ridgeback displayed soon made them a highly trusted and highly prized companion. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is, according to the kennel club, a fast and powerful athlete that is a whole lot of a hound! They are described as faithful friends who are protective of loved ones, and full of affection and love. They are also, on the other hand, strong-willed and independent, needing firm but fair training. They can be domineering if they are allowed to be, so need a strong-willed owner. Looks wise, the Rhodesian Ridgeback is described as standing at between 25 to 27 inches if male and 24 to 26 inches if female. They can weigh in at up to 85 lb. Color wise, there is only one which the Rhodesian Ridgeback comes in and it is described as wheaten. This, however, can be of varying shades from pale flaxen to burnished red. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is listed by the American Kennel Club as the 42nd most popular breed of the clubs .The Labrador Retriever Classed as one of the most popular breeds in all of America, the Labrador Retriever originated from Newfoundland, an Easterly province of Canada. Here they would be used by a fisherman to help catch fish that came loose from their nets or to jump into the freezing cold water and help pull the nets out. In the s, English ships brought the Labrador Retriever to England where they were bred with Spaniels, Setters, and other types of Retriever to enhance the breeds instinct for hunting. This was highly successful and the Labrador Retriever we know today was born. Regarded as incredibly easy to train, and renowned for their hunting and retrieving ability the Labrador Retriever has developed over the years into much more than a hunting dog. Today they are also used for drug detection work, police work, guide work for the blind, sledding and carting, and search and rescue. According to the American Kennel Club, within which it ranks at number 1 for popularity out of breeds, the Labrador Retriever is a sturdy and well-balanced breed with a dense and hard coat. This coat comes in a glorious array of colors from yellow to black, and luscious chocolate, with the glorious fox red and silver being, also included but not recognized specifically. Standing at up to .They are classified as a sporting dog by the American Kennel Club but appear at Crufts as a gun dog. Technically, they are both with sporting just being another way to describe the gundog group. Personality wise, Labrador Retrievers are great big bundles of love that will bond with the whole family and always greet you with a wagging tail and smile. They make great and loving companions who socialize well with humans and other dogs alike. Quite the keen athletes also, Labrador Retrievers love to run and swim. Marathon games of fetch will be on the cards for anyone who invites this breed into their home. The Rhodesian Labrador — Appearance Image from petrescue. The chest is deep and supports a solid neck and fine elegant head. The top of the head is rounded slightly in shape with an indent often being present between the eyes. The eyes themselves are always bright, alert, and full of curiosity and character. They are a rich deep amber or a darkish brown in color with a rounded shape and a dark rim to them. Beneath the eyes, the muzzle is long and pointed and ends in a nose that is always black. The mouth of the Rhodesian Labrador has a black rim to it and teeth that meet in a neat scissor bite. Ears are set wide apart on this hybrid breed and almost frame the head. At the other end of the Rhodesian Labradors body, a long tail completes the design of this handsome breed with its elegant stance. Well, almost that is! The Rhodesian Labrador — Temperament Unlike appearance, which can vary in the Rhodesian Labrador, temperament is a little more certain. This is mainly due to both the breeds involved in this hybrid being similar in personality and behavior. Both, for example, are calm and confident, and both are loving and loyal. Where the Labrador Retriever and Rhodesian Ridgeback do differ is in the tendency to be stubborn and possibly domineering. This is not a trait that the Labrador often displays, rather it is the domain of the Rhodesian Ridgeback. This trait makes them harder to train, but not impossible, it just takes hard work and the ability to be firm but fair. The Rhodesian Labrador usually inherits this trait. Calm indoors and energetic outdoors the Rhodesian Labrador is the ideal family pet. They love children and will play fetch with them all day long, often outplaying the child. They are also protective of those they love, but never aggressive. They may, however, posture and bark in the presence of those they see as a threat to their family, but they will not attack. The calm nature of the Rhodesian Labrador means that even though they are a large dog, they can adapt quite well to apartment living. They will, however, need frequent exercise such as walks to prevent them from becoming a destructive force within your home. As Rhodesian Ridgebacks and Labrador Retrievers come from a hunting background, the Rhodesian Labrador may inherit the prey instinct. This means they could be prone to chasing small animals and squaring up to other dogs. Good training with socialization at an early age should take care of this trait, but it pays to keep your Rhodesian Labrador on a leash until you are sure they will not chase. Overall, the Rhodesian Labrador could be described as a big dog that has a heart that is even bigger! They are loyal, loving, playful, intelligent, affectionate, and make a fantastic family pet. Rhodesian Labrador — Maintenance Putting it simply the Rhodesian Labrador is incredibly easy to care for and requires very little maintenance. They have no special requirements that will take up lots of your time. Time wise, all in all, care for your Rhodesian Labrador should take up a little more than an hour per week. A moderate shedding breed the Rhodesian Labrador requires a thorough brushing on a weekly basis. This should be done with a stiff bristled brush or a product like the Furminator. This will remove any loose fur, including the undercoat that is inherited from the Labrador Retriever. You may also need to occasionally clip your Rhodesian Labradors claws. Due to not always being able to tell where the vein is in the claw, many owners choose to use a groomer or their veterinary clinic to perform this task. With their large floppy ears, the Rhodesian Labrador is especially prone to ear infections. Because of this regular cleansing of the ears is recommended. This can usually be done with simple ear cleansing wipes, but if you notice a dirt buildup ear cleansing liquids are also widely available. Bathing is not a regular necessity when it comes to a Rhodesian Labrador and should only be done when they are really dirty. If you need to bathe them make sure you use a gentle dog-specific shampoo and ensure you thoroughly rinse. Finally, teeth cleaning is a care activity you should be performing on a weekly basis. Do not rely on teeth cleansing treats to do this job for you. Dog toothbrushes and toothpaste are widely available and as with any care regime, you should start performing this task from an early age. Special puppy brushes that are slipped on to your fingers can be purchased to help you accustom your Rhodesian Labrador to this task. Rhodesian Labrador — Activity Requirements Rhodesian Labradors have a lot of energy and require the time and opportunity for them to expel this. They should be walking for at least 12 miles a week and be participating in 2 hours activity a day. Agility, fetch, chase, and even training sessions are all excellent ways to give your Rhodesian Labrador the exercise they need. As mentioned before, this breed loves to play all manner of games, especially the one called fetch! They are also intelligent enough that sports like agility will be a breeze for them. It is worth noting that, also as pre-mentioned, the Rhodesian Labrador can have a high prey drive meaning they will chase after small animals, and possibly other dogs. When doing this they will also not always be responsive to recall. For this reason, it is a good idea to keep your Rhodesian Labrador on a leash whilst in public places. Extending leads are perfect for this breed as they mean your dog can have a range of up to around 8 meters away from you whilst still being under your control. Rhodesian Labrador — Food Consumption The Rhodesian Labrador is a breed that just loves their food and will eat virtually anything that is offered to them. It is, however, worth remembering that this breed also puts on weight very easily and can become obese quite quick. Fully grown Rhodesian Labradors should be eating around 2. Any treats given should be accounted for by feeding smaller meals. Feeding times are best spread out throughout the day, say three meals a day, to ensure they burn off the calories they are in taking. Please note Rhodesian Labradors do make excellent food thieves and are of a size that food simply placed on a counter will not be out of their reach. Make sure any food, that you do not want them getting, is secure and safe from stealthy paws. Rhodesian Labrador — Health As with all breeds of dog, the Rhodesian Labrador is more prone to certain illnesses than others, and this should be taken into account before making the decision to own one. Rhodesian Labrador major health concerns are canine hip and joint dysplasia, hyperthyroidism, and gastric dilation volvulus, commonly known as GDV. Canine hip and joint dysplasia — This is an abnormal formation of usually the hip, or less commonly elbow socket. In its more severe form, it can lead to crippling lameness and painful arthritis of the joints. It is more common in larger dog breeds and there is no complete cure. It can, however, be treated with painkillers and anti-inflammatories, and sometimes if suitable surgery. Hyperthyroidism — This health concern occurs when your Rhodesian Labradors body produces too much of the thyroid hormone. Symptoms include lethargy, exercise intolerance, mental dullness, weight gain, obesity, and an intolerance to the cold. It is, however, treatable with Thyroxine which will offset your Rhodesian Labradors low thyroid function. Gastric Dilation Volvulus GDV — A rapidly progressing and life-threatening condition that is commonly associated with feeding your Rhodesian Labrador large meals. This in turn causes the stomach to dilate, because of food and gas, and can get to the point whether neither is expelled. The stomach will then expand and dilate causing a pressure buildup which can be fatal. Surgery is needed for this condition. Whilst the above may all sound really scary, they are certainly not common occurrences with the Rhodesian Labrador. They are, however, conditions you should be aware of and prepared to deal with should the need arise. Other conditions that may affect your Rhodesian Labrador but that would be minor concerns are ear infections and glaucoma. Ear Infections — As already mentioned in the care section, Rhodesian Labradors are prone to getting dirty ears which can become infected. This is usually due to bacteria and yeast growth and symptoms of infection include redness, a bad odor, and swelling. You may also find your Rhodesian Labrador trying to paw at their ears in an effort to clean them or frequently shaking their head. This is an indication that the infection has become painful and that you should seek veterinary help. Glaucoma — This is a disease of the optic nerve in which pressure is placed on the eye. If left without treatment, this condition can become chronic causing permanent damage such as blindness. Treatment varies including drugs or the possible draining of excess fluid. It is worth mentioning here that annual checkups for your Rhodesian Labrador are a really good idea. These can be done at the same time as their yearly vaccinations. In fact, many veterinarians offer packages that include both vaccinations and a checkup that are usually exceptionally well priced. Rhodesian Labrador — Puppies As a puppy, the Rhodesian Labrador will be highly energetic and love to actively play for which they need lots of safe space. This should take the form of a well-enclosed garden from which they cannot escape, or a leash being on them when out in public. It is worth noting that due to possible joint injuries, which we have covered above, that the Rhodesian Labrador puppy should take frequent but short walks. Rhodesian Labrador puppies should be fed a high-quality suitable food so that they grow healthy and do not become obese. As a guide, the weight of your puppy at 6 months old should be no more than 23 lb, and at 12 month 40lb. Like any other breed, pure or hybrid, you should always research possible Rhodesian Labrador breeders carefully. Visit the homes where the puppies are living, and insist on seeing both Mum and Dad. Watch how the breeder interacts with the puppies and how the puppies respond to them. As always anything much cheaper than this you should avoid at all costs. This is because it may be a good indication that the breeder may be running a puppy mill. Consider owning a Cairn Terrier! In this article, we explore who would benefit them as furry friends! They come in a variety of colors and range in spectrums of white, grey and black, white and beige, dark brown, beige and white and mixes of greys and Beiges together. The lilac genetics are expressed in the flash of red in there light blue colored eyes and a combination of chocolate and blue base color in their coats. Black, tan and fawn make up the black Merle and they often have brown eyes or blue eyes. On occasion, a combination of both will express itself where you will see one brown eye and one blue eye or a streak of one color inside the other. Genetically they come from the black Merle whose color base has been diluted to create a blue hue. Health of Merle Bulldogs French Bulldogs like all other breeds have certain health risks. For a golden retriever it is hip displasia. For a french bulldog it is a vulnerable back that encourages good practices for their owners to have stairs in place always at sites where dogs should not be jumping from such as a high bed or couch. It has been rumored that Merle french bulldogs are less healthy than standard french bulldogs. This would only be true if poor breeding practices are exercised. That would be breeding one Merle dog to another. Common problems include blindness and deafness as well as chronic allergies, immune disorders, heart murmurs and hip dysplasia. A responsible breeder will tell you about this. Additionally to encourage better health throughout a dogs life Feeding your dog a raw diet and giving them NuVet supplements are required by our standards. In general a raw diet has been proven to lengthen life span. Also not spaying and neutering before the age of six and preserving hormones will encourage longer life. Merle is not a color, its a pattern. There are some patterns recreated by breeders that have become popular and also despised upon by other breeders. Merle French bulldogs are such dogs whose pattern has become very popular due to its rarity and the diversity of patterns. The gene alters the color of the dogs and creates patterns over patterns and this creates mottled patches in the colors of the litter. Also, the gene modifies the color of the eyes nose and the paw pads. Blue eyes are common in these dogs and also an odd colored set of eyes can also be present. No Merle dog will be the same as the patterns will always differ along with the color. There are three types of genes that the dog can carry. Breeders take advantage of the availability of French Bulldogs in up to 20 twenty different colors. They then create a rare, low maintenance dog. Merle is one of the most expensive colors of French bulldogs out there and one of the rarest. Merle French bulldogs are not pure breeds. The color is a mix of other patterns mixed together by careful selection and breeding. If the breeder messes up on the color combination, the puppies can come out unhealthy and weak with birth defects. No French bulldog has the merle gene and therefore, Merle French bulldogs are not purebred. Many dog breeds have this gene, however, Chihuahuas are used to introduce this gene in the French bulldog family. Some breeders can also crossbreed the puppies to create a purebred Merle French bulldog. The pattern depends on the gene dilution as there are variations in the pattern of these dogs. Blue, black, lavender are some of the colors which are diluted with the merle gene. These dogs are very rare and are sought out for all over the world. About me. To produce this rare and beautiful color, the parents have to carry the blue, chocolate and merle gene. They also have lighter colored eyes which are glowing red. One of these rare traits is their sparkling blue eyes. Since the merle gene affects the skin pigment as well, when a merle patch crosses the eye area the Frenchie will have bright forever blue eyes. Sometimes only one of the eyes will remain blue, which is a phenomenon called heterochromia. They are perfectly happy lying on the sofa all day and require little exercise during the day. As they have short fur they only require occasional grooming, which makes them ideal companions for those who live in an apartment. As you might expect, colors that are considered common for the breed have the lowest prices around USD, while colors which are more unique and harder to produce are more expensive as well. After my last 2 American Golden's died this winter from cancer, my husband and I began looking at other breeds in order to avoid getting our hearts ripped out again by the "Golden cancer curse". We read up on all large breed dogs and inevitably decided another Golden Retriever was the only right fit for our family. That being said, we decided to change it up a little and go for an English Golden this time and to spend more time trying to find a breeder with a similar philosophy to good health as we have for our own human children. That is when we stumbled upon your website. Everything you spoke of regarding high immune system and low toxins spoke to me, and I felt we had hit the jackpot in breeders. By the time we found you, we were able to secure 4th pick male or 1st pick female of Woofy's upcoming litter. I told you I was hesitant to get another female, because my first female dog was hyper until her final breath at .You told me that Goldens should not be hyper dogs if bred well and so in order to get the first pick of Woofy's litter, we decided to take your word for it and go for another female. She is ridiculously sweet and as calm as any puppy I have ever seen. People cannot believe how old she is when I tell them she isn't even 5 months yet. She has made me look like the dog whisperer! While I have worked with her a lot on training and socialization, I can't even take the credit, because it really is who she is innately as a puppy. She behaves like a mature middle aged dog. My husband and I keep waiting for the day when she starts jumping and acting looney, yet in my heart I know that isn't going to happen. Not only is Tayler calm, she is also extremely intelligent and has been a breeze to train thus far. She has slept through the night since the first week we got her and picked up on the sit and down commands quickly. Would you believe that we can already put a very enticing treat between her 2 front paws and she will successfully "leave it" until she hears her release words "that'll do"? It is VERY impressive! She has also learned that she may only come on the couch when invited. In the evening when my kids go to sleep and I sit on the couch to relax, she comes up to me, sits quietly and looks at me with those puppy dog eyes. She is clearly asking, "May I come snuggle? Tayler's personality is not the only jaw dropping characteristic about her. Her beauty is also astounding. Everyone who meets her refers to her as the "calendar puppy". From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for helping to mend our family after the loss of Marley and Taj by blessing us with Tayler Jam. Emily and family" Sorry it has taken so long for us to contact you and like many others, it has been very hard to find the words to express how happy we are with Ortley and how significantly our lives have changed by having him in them. His sweet face and bubbly personality brightens every day and everyone who meets him immediately falls in love. Ortley is almost 9 months old now and we continue to be amazed at how happy, well natured, loving and intelligent he is. Even as a very small puppy, he seemed to instinctively know where to go. We look forward to keeping up with Woofy and Max and based on this experience, may be reaching out to you again to add a playmate and another member to our family. Michael, Karin, Ashley, Ethan and Ortley Thank you for sending us this information. We absolutely love Mia. She is everything you promised. She has the best personality, so sweet and mellow. And she is absolutely beautiful.
