She has opened up so much since then and her true personality has finally come out. Truffle is such a character and your typical female bulldog. She can still be timid and skittish with new people but warms up pretty quick. Just needs someone patience who is willing to give her a chance. When she becomes your best friends all she wants is to be petted and be right next to you. She is selective with other dogs at first, but does well with most dogs as long as she can be the queen. Truffle does better with the calmer male dogs. No small children. When we first took Truffle in she had horrible infected ears, nasty skin, and was struggling with her breathing. They are NOT willing to spay or neuter the adults. They will continue breeding regardless if we take the pups or not. So we choose life. We choose to give them a chance. And we get to decide who adopts the precious few who make it. We pull dogs from local shelters that would otherwise be euthanized due to an injury, kennel stress, or extreme fearfulness. We do not take on the easy dogs. We do not cherry pick the highly adoptable dogs. We take the dogs that nobody else is coming for. The dogs that would otherwise not make it out of the shelter alive. Most of the dogs that we pull are major medical dogs whose injuries are life threatening. Dogs needing an amputation or a fracture repaired. Dogs needing a rectal prolapse fixed. Or a torn ACL repaired. But our medical bills are not always posted, and donations are not always raised for many of our dogs in need. Or the dozens of times the procedures needed are smaller and not necessary to post about, but those costs still add up regardless. We also have a hefty bill every month to cover our dogs in boarding. We have anywhere from dogs there at any given time. We hardly ever raise funds for boarding costs. And when we post asking for help, the donations that come in do not cover even a fraction of the cost. The other bulldogs that come into our rescue as adults come to us from shelters who KNOW that we will find the most suitable and appropriate homes imaginable for these dogs. Because they know that bulldogs NEED homes that can afford their ongoing care, and they entrust us to find those homes. IF we were only taking on French Bulldogs and English Bulldogs as owner surrenders, and not doing any of the other many facets of rescue work that we are doing, then I would understand the criticism about our adoption fees. We are doing the hard work! These fees go to cover medical bills for the month. And they go to cover boarding costs. These adoption fees help to keep all other parts of our rescue functioning. The MAIN reason is because not everyone should own one. Even if you have insurance, you still need to have a nest egg. Insurance only reimburses you, and many times does not cover all of the charges. If one of our adopted dogs needs surgery, we want the adopter to be able to afford that cost. Or to us. So how much is the adoption fee? There is some fluctuation in adoption fees from time to time depending on the dog. When your Frenchie pup is awake, they take up a lot of energy too. Other than playing, they also use energy to explore the world. For example, a Frenchie who sleeps on his back will help him keep cool. This is because sleeping with an exposed tummy will let heat escape, letting him keep cool and happy on a warmer night. Why does my French bulldog is make puffing noises in his sleep? The physical make-up of a Frenchie is commonly known to lead to breathing issues. As brachiocephalic dogs they have short snouts. At 5 weeks of age they are starting to run around all over the place when they are let out to play, and, when they are in their kennels, they play sometimes rather roughly with litter mates. It is during this time when some of their adult personalities will start coming out. By the end of this week their puppy teeth are all in, and they love to chew on things, including fingers if you let them. However, even at this age, they will spend most of their time sleeping, probably close to 20 hours per day, with only short times between naps when they are alert and active. By the end of the 6th week they are completely weaned from their moms and eating solid food well. We frequently take them out of their kennels to scamper around. They are full of energy and love to play with their litter-mates and the kids. This is the time that we really focus on socializing them and we even start their paper training. Though they are fast, active, playful little puppies at this point in their lives, they still are like babies and require lots of sleep probably over 18 hours per day and are still quite fragile. For chocolates we have some mothers mated who will have puppies ready for homes Sept through December. Our availability changes daily as people reserve puppies and sometimes change their minds for a puppy later on, or a different sex or color. We are expecting one litter with a few yellow puppies who will be ready to go home in Oct. We will have black lab puppies that will be born in August and Sept, reservations are available. For silver litters our next silver puppies will be ready in winter of .We are accepting applications now for our silver waiting list and first born silver puppies will be offered to those on the waiting list in the order that their deposits are received. To reserve one of our silver puppies or to get onto our waiting list for winter silvers please apply below. The earlier you place your deposit the higher up on the list you are.
